OK. So as this was indeed the only point that is really a bug (the
suggestion to embark mirror IP addresses in the installer seems
awkward to me and I think I gave a workaround in the BR, I
hereby reassign the bug report to taskseland close it with versioning.

Bug#385542: sendmail-program set incorrectly

2006-09-02 Thread Sven Joachim

Romain Francoise wrote:

Probably you should rather build-depend on exim4 | mail-transport-agent,

Perhaps I should think of the buildds and depend on the smallest package
which provides /usr/sbin/sendmail since we just need it to be present...
Or perhaps I should just keep the dependency out and patch paths.el in
e-s to avoid this effect..

There's an even better possibility. You can override the auto-detected
value from paths.el in site-init.el, which is loaded later during the
dumping process. This is the method recommended in paths.el and the Emacs
Lisp manual. See also debian-default-info-directory.dpatch which already
puts something in site-init.el.

Bug#269972: How to recognize that the install is a floppy install?

2006-09-02 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Joey Hess ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

I do think we should take care to only use this rarely. Making lots of
paths that are determined by boot type will make testing harder, and
 help hide bugs.

Yeah, I understand. Here the point is not really making a real branch
but just display a special debconf note to explain why some dialogs are
still using English while users did choose another language.

unlike prior versions, boot hangs unless noacpi =off on Toshiba
Portege 7020CT (Intel Mobile Pentium II, 366MHz, 192MB RAM, 7GB hard

This would appear to be a function of the kernel version used, as
 2.6.15 did not hang.

Similar behavior was also observed when a beta-2 install was upgraded
 to kernel 2.6.16

Which actually means that the bug belongs to the kernel packages more
than the installer itself.

You might have a chance trying the 2.6.17 kernels which are currently
only in Debian unstable.

package name every time those change?

That's what the soname is for.

Both the soname and the package name must be changed so that package
management tools can avoid installing binary-incompatible libraries and
 applications.

Anyways, even without a package name
change, your dependencies are too tight. You can't even install
videolink with libxul0d 1.8.0.5-3 in unstable.

If you can assure me that a videolink package built against the current
libxul-dev should be binary-compatible with every future version of
libxul0d then I will remove the additional versioned dependency. I
would love to do without the versioned dependency, but my current
understanding is that you cannot provide this assurance.

Why do you think I added an soname to libxul ?

Bug#385684: openmsx: OpenGL-PP is unstable on some systems

2006-09-02 Thread Joost Yervante Damad
Package: openmsx
Version: 0.6.1-2
Severity: normal

hmh reported that on his system selecting the openGL-PP renderer gives
bad behaviour in openMSX (and indirectly in catapult).

When he selects the PP renderer he has to restart openMSX manually and
then it will use the SDL renderer again.
The expected behaviour is that instead openMSX either uses the PP
renderer, or if it lacks certain GL features switches back to the SDL
renderer WITHOUT the need for a restart.

None of the openMSX developers is able to reproduce this currently.

I'm using only the icq protocol. Jabber and MSN accounts are

Bug#385685: gnome-session: Automatically save changes to session does strange things after toggled off

2006-09-02 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: gnome-session
Version: 2.14.3-1
Severity: normal

Ever since I tried to save an empty session to replace my previous
session that was lauching rhythmbox at startup, I get both a ${HOME}
nautilus window and a gnome-session-properties dialog at startup.

The way I do it is the following:
- Since the save the session checkbox disappeared from the logout
dialog, I go in the gnome session properties and check Automatically
  save changes to session
- Logout
- Login. Here, everything is okay, the session is empty.
- I go again in the gnome session properties and uncheck Automatically
save changes to session. Here, I would expect the current setting
(being that nothing is launched) to be kept.
- Logout
- Login. Here, I get the nautilus window and the
  gnome-session-properties dialog at startup.

If I try again from the beginning, I have the exact same thing
(intermediate step okay and all)

Bug#385650: tasksel: The kde-desktop task should list kaffeine(-mozilla) media player

2006-09-02 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Joey Hess]
Does kde not include a default media player?

Well, I do not have complete knowledge about the KDE facilities, but
as I see it, the default KDE do not include a media player of the same
kind and quality as kaffeine. There is kscd capable of playing CDs,
and konqueror can play music files, but for video and for
administrating your music collection, I've tested a few tools, and
currently landed on kaffeine.

Note that some of the recent additions to the gnome task are because
gnome currently has a few holes in their standard apps, so the kde
task doesn't need to worry about filling those holes unless it has
 the same ones..

Right. Good point. I'll keep that in mind while I compare the
packages in debian-edu and kubuntu with the kde-desktop task in
tasksel.

I suspect it will be useful to list a few packages directly instead of
hoping 'kde' to pull them all in, to work better with CDs (or
installations from CD) where the 'kde' metapackage is missing becaues
there were not room for the entire KDE system.

Friendly,

Bug#385685: Some investigations later...

2006-09-02 Thread Mike Hommey
After some investigations, it appears the Automatically save changes to
session doesn't do what I thought it did.

It actually saves in real time the changes to the current session, thus
the current behaviour.

Which means there are actually 2 different problems :
- Unchecking the option should remove gnome-session-properties from the
current saved session. It doesn't make sense to have it in the last
automatically saved session. Since the only way to disable the mode is
to launch the properties panel (well, you still can do it from command
line or gconf-editor, but the only proper way is to go in the
properties), gnome-session-properties is damned to appear in the
  session.

- Somehow, after unchecking the option, the nautilus launch is different
and opens a new ${HOME} window, which is not supposed to happen.

Mike

I think this is because printing support on linux has always been worse

Hmm. let's hope so.. Googling cairo mathml does not inspire much

Bug#385691: kdevelop-dev should ship the api documentation

2006-09-02 Thread Andreas Pakulat
Package: kdevelop-dev
Version: 4:3.3.4-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

kdevelop-dev is supposed to be installed when you want to build
something based on kdevelop's infrastructure, however there's no
documentation available on how one could start. I think the apidocs from
kdevelop should be included in kdevelop-dev (no point in installing
dev-doc's for the users by putting them in kdevelop-doc) so people who
want to write project or file templates don't have to download the
source and build the apidocs themselves.

Note: The 3.x apidocs are not available online (not sure why, will check
with upstream).

Bug#367320: Patch available

2006-09-02 Thread Ted Percival
retitle 367320 prelink: Add timestamps to logged messages
tags 367320 patch
stop

I have written a patch that adds timestamps to the output of prelink
through a -T command-line option. The patch is attached as
prelink-timestamp.patch and has been sent upstream.

Because the addition of the -T flag is required for timestamp-enabled
output, the daily cron job in the Debian packaging has to be modified to
enable the -T flag for all runs. See attached
prelink-timestamp-debian.patch.

I also decided it's not necessary to log starting and stopping messages
because the prelink logfile is replaced on each run. I have retitled the
bug accordingly.

Bug#319919: xmms kfreebsd

2006-09-02 Thread Petr Salinger

reopen 319919
found 319919 1:1.2.10+20060901-1
thanks

Hi,

the old libtool problem reappeared, here is the fixing recipe:

in xmms (root directory of the package):
- remove ancient libtool file from acinclude.m4, between lines 921 - 4607,
it has nothing to do here
- remove file ltconfig

- run 'libtoolize -c -f'
- run 'aclocal-1.9'
- run 'autoconf2.50'

in libxmms/:
- remove ancient libtool file from acinclude.m4, from line 146 to the end,
it has nothing to do here
- run 'libtoolize -c -f'
- run 'aclocal-1.9'
- run 'autoconf2.50'

This should fix also #382624.

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update libtool
using this recipe.

Thanks in advance.

Bug#385695: FTBFS on alpha: va_list is not a pointer

2006-09-02 Thread Aurélien GÉRÔME
Package: ircd-hybrid
Version: 1:7.2.2-1
Severity: important
Tags: pending

When building on alpha, the auto-builder gave the following error.

gcc -I../include -I/usr/include/pcre -Wall -O2 -g -c s_user.c
s_user.c: In function 'register_local_user':

The incriminated code is located at:

src/s_user.c:71:static void *uid_get(va_list);
src/s_user.c:431:  id = uid_get(NULL);

NULL is a pointer on 0, (void *) 0, but va_list is not implemented
as a pointer on alpha.

After a test build on my alpha development machine to see if this
happens elsewhere, I will do another upload to fix this bug.

As debian/rules sets JAVA_HOME to /usr/lib/kaffe, kaffe has to be added
as a build-dependency. The attached patch fixes this, and also corrects
Build-Depends/Build-Depends-Indep.

This package would probably need to be updated to use java-gcj-compat.

Hi,

I was looking for a simple sound recording program I could automate.
The command line options (-p, -r and -f) listed in the man page pretty
much do what I want.

However none of them work.

It would be good if the manual page was update to reflect this.

Thanks,

Hm, what are extended colors? Google mainly turns up logs of
 ./configure runs.

It stores the color pair separately in an int rather than packed in 8-bits
with the video attributes. Here's a typical (non-extended) definition for
cchar_t from curses.h:

#define CCHARW_MAX  5
typedef struct
{
attr_t  attr;
wchar_t chars[CCHARW_MAX];
#if 0
int ext_color; /* color pair, must be more than
16-bits */
#endif
}
cchar_t;

Turning on the ifdef for ext_color makes cchar_t a different size, and
WINDOW a different size. (I can elaborate on why/what, etc, but probably
should explain that all in my faq ;-)

Bug#385702: w3m rejects valid cookies based on false assumptions

2006-09-02 Thread Nicolas George
Package: w3m
Version: 0.5.1-5

This cookie was rejected to prevent security violation. [wrong number of
dots]

W3m rejects cookies for domain.tld (versus subdomain.domain.tld) unless when
tld is one of .com, .edu, .gov, .mil, .net, .org and .int. This is done on
the assumption that others TLD follow the .jp domain.subtld.tld model:
.co.jp for commercial sites, .ac.jp for academic sites, and so on. The
reason to reject such cookies is to prevent malicious sites from putting
cookies on whole subdomains, which would be akin tu putting cookies on the
whole .com or .org TLD.

But the assumption is wrong: a lot of country code TLD do not follow this
policy (including .jp, nowadays), and the hardcoded list of generic TLD in
w3m is incomplete. That makes browsing some sites very annoying, due to a
lot of rejected cookies (each pausing for some time, if cookies are
displayed), and sometimes impossible (if the site is badly written).

The code is in cookie.c, lines 302 to 313, where the special_domain variable
is used.

For the record, in Firefox, the corresponding feature seems to be in
toolkit/components/places/src/nsNavHistory.cpp (with a This should be moved
somewhere else (like cookies) comment), near the end, with a hardcoded list
of ccTLD with subtld policy. The complete hardcoded list is .uk and .kr.

Therefore, the simplest would be to simply remove this test, and accept
unconditionally cookies for domain.tld.

Regards,

Bug#383435: fvwm: Setting titlebar fg color doesn't work anymore with iso8859-15 fonts

2006-09-02 Thread Marc-Jano Knopp
Package: fvwm
Version: 1:2.5.17-1
Followup-For: Bug #383435

I haven't specifically tested the HighlightFore style, but I presume the
bug I detected yesterday to be the same as this bug:

Symptom
---

With 2.5.16, my titlebar colors were black/#ffbb0 for focussed and
lightgray/dimgray for unfocussed windows.

After upgrading to 2.5.17, the foreground color for unfocussed window
changed from lightgray to black (without having changed the configuration).

The following commands have no effect on the foreground color:

  - Style * ForeColor fgcolor

  - Style * Color fgcolor/bgcolor

  - Colorset 9 fg fgcolor
TitleStyle colorset 9

Details
---

This happens if either DefaultFont or Style * Font is set to a font
with an iso8859-15 encoding, for example

  -misc-fixed-bold-r-semicondensed-*-*-120-*-*-c-*-iso8859-15

or

  -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal-*-*-140-*-*-p-*-iso8859-15

As soon as such a font is set (and fvwm restarted), the titlebar
foreground color is constantly black, and you have to set it to a
non-iso8859-15 font like

  fixed

or

  -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal-*-*-140-*-*-p-*-iso10646-1

to make the titlebar foreground color react to configuration commands
again.

Bug#363662: jpilot shows multiple Gtk/Gdk critical messages when exiting.

Hi,

I'd like to know how your computer is configured to get such a sentence ;-)

Can you (re)test with a recent jpilot version lplease? jpilot 0.99.9

I think this bug was resolved some time ago. I can't reproduce it
anymore. I am not sure the bug was in jpilot, maybe it was in GTK+.
I come to the same result in etch (jpilot 0.99.8-0.99.9-pre-20060518-1,
what a version number! Perhaps you could simplify with the new ~

Anyway I close myself the bug, hoping it's OK for you.

Bug#385705: evms-gui: crash when creating a segment

2006-09-02 Thread Andrew Schulman
Package: evms-gui
Version: 2.5.5-15
Severity: normal

I start evmsgui, and choose Create - Segment. I choose DOS segment
manager, sdb_freespace1. The configuration options dialog appears. I
enter the segment size (54.9 MB).

Now at some point of tabbing around the options in this dialog,
evmsgui always crashes with

evmsgui:11273): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkEntry - did not receive focus-out-event. If
you
connect a handler to this signal, it must return
FALSE so the entry gets the event as well

Gtk-ERROR **: file gtkentry.c: line 4965 (blink_cb): assertion failed:
(GTK_WIDGET_HAS_FOCUS (entry))
aborting...
Aborted

I'm sorry but I haven't been able to determine exactly when this
happens-- entering or leaving which specific option box.

I like the new GTK2 gui, but unfortunately it has a lot of other
problems, about which I'll file reports as I have time. This one is
the most serious.

Thanks,
Andrew.

Bug#352512: Patch to disable the fallback in hald

It turns out that hal has a configure option for exactly this
behaviour, which makes the attached patch just two lines: one to switch

Bug#350561: ksysguard: applet sensor order changes ignored

2006-09-02 Thread Michael Deegan
Package: ksysguard
Version: 4:3.5.4-2
Followup-For: Bug #350561

I might also add that while the order of sensors does not change (despite
attempts with the 'Move Up' and 'Move Down' buttons), the colours -do-!

But it gets worse...the order of colours gets reversed! If you start off
with:

   5 swap usedred
   4 free mem green
   3 cache memorange
   2 buffer mem yellow
   1 app mem blue

and you decided (for whatever reason) to sort the sensors by colour, by
moving the green sensor down two places:

   5 swap usedred
   4 cache memorange
   3 buffer mem yellow
   2 free mem green
   1 app mem blue

Rather than the intended result above, you'd get:

   5 swap usedblue
   4 free mem green
   3 cache memyellow
   2 buffer mem orange
   1 app mem red

Bug#384922: NFS insecure without support for squashing multiple groups

2006-09-02 Thread Paul Szabo
I will re-phrase the problem, this may be clearer for some people:

The root_squash option is to protect from an evil root. Though group
staff is root-equivalent, root_squash does not currently squash that group
(for various reasons, the kernel not supporting such options being one).
An evil root could become group staff on the client, not get squashed
across NFS, then become root on the server: root_squash is defeated.

Methods of exploitation, and ways to fix, were discussed already.

I know this bug renders my systems exploitable as we relied on the default
root_squash working, and never set non-default permissions on /usr/local or
altered root's PATH. I beleive it renders many other systems exploitable
also, but have no ways to test that hypothesis.

Cheers,

Bug#385714: FTBFS with GCC 4.2: uses removed minimum/maximum operator

2006-09-02 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: starfighter
Version: 1.1-6

Your package fails to build with GCC 4.2. Version 4.2 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. You're using an minimum/maximum
or similar operator (that is, ?, ?, ?=, or ?=) which has been removed
as of 4.2. These operators have been removed since GCC 4.0 so please
let your upstream know about this issue.

You can reproduce this with the gcc-snapshot package from unstable

Bug#385715: Manpage incorrectly states This command doesn't understand any command line parameters

2006-09-02 Thread Name Lastname

Package: planetpenguin-racer
Version: 0.3.1-8

The manpage for this version, as well as stable (0.3.1-2), under
OPTIONS, incorrectly states that ppracer does not understand any
command line parameters. Instead, it should give the command line
parameters.

Here is a list of ppracer command line parameters, with brief descriptions:

-c config-file - specify location of ppracer config file, default:
~/.ppracer/options
-f , something about setting the course
-m , something about MaxFrames
-a , setMode to auto, whatever that means
-p , something about setting a vector position

(This list may not be complete)

There is no documentation for ppracer, as far as I know. These
commands, therefore, are undocumented. However, their use can be found
in main.cpp from the original source code. You can also experiment
with them on the command line. Saying that there are none is
inacurrate.

Sometimes I get the first listed language, sometimes English, or the
   last one...
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems www.debian.org does something wrong,
   doesn't it ?

Please a different server, such as www.de.debian.org. Can you still
  reproduce it?

With Konqueror yes. Firefox is OK.
 Setting Languages=fr-fr,fr;q=0.8,en-us;q=0.5,en;q=0.3 in kio_httprc
solves the problem on www.{it,fr,jp,de,}.debian.org (and others, I
 guess ;o).

Yep, for me too. Does this mean the problem is fixed now for everyone
and every server? I will update
http://www.de.debian.org/intro/cn#konqueror to reflect this.

I still get English pages without a Languages= line at all. But I think
KDE should deliver the single default language in this case. Only if
multiple languages are requested ~/.kde/share/config/kio_httprc needs to
be modified!?

Oh, about the bug report you pointed: the poster says he has only
problems with w.de.d.o, not others. Aren't all sites exact mirrors?

The poster is me :-)

In the past I was able to reproduce it only with the German mirror,
later I noticed the problem also in other mirrors and now it vanished!?

I assumed it also depends on the web server which the Debian project
cannot dictate on mirrors.

Can other users please test konqueror?

Jens

Bug#366094: Package documentation for libssp0 autoconf macro

2006-09-02 Thread Ted Percival
I originally mistakenly sent this message only to control@ so the
message didn't show up in the BTS. Here it is again.

Matthias Klose wrote:
could you prepare a README to be included in the package?

I have written a brief README, attached. My first question when I
originally downloaded libssp0 was how do I actually use it?, which is
what I have aimed to answer in the README.

I think it would be helpful to include the autoconf macros that can be
used to check for SSP[1]. They can be found via a link from the main SSP
web page[2].

I have spent some time improving the above autoconf macros. My changes
are attached (as well as a full copy of the updated macros). The changes
are:
* Stricter language checking (C or C++)
  - Required for projects using both C and C++
* Adds GCC_STACK_PROTECT_LIB to add -lssp to LDFLAGS as necessary
  - I have found -lssp is sometimes required during linking
* Caches all results
  - This is always nice to have.
* Uses macros to ensure correct ouput in quiet/silent mode
  - Previously yes and no could have been printed erroneously.

The updated macros have been sent to the original author (Tiago Sousa)
and to Hiroaki Etoh.

I hope this is helpful!

[1] Autoconf macros:

[2] Main SSP web page:
http://researchweb.watson.ibm.com/trl/projects/security/ssp/

-Ted
Stack smashing protection is a feature of GCC that enables a program to
detect buffer overflows and immediately terminate execution, rather than
continuing execution with corrupt internal data structures. It uses
canaries and local variable reordering to reduce the likelihood of
stack corruption through buffer overflows.

Options that affect stack smashing protection:

-fstack-protector
Enables protection for functions that are vulnerable to stack
smashing, such as those that call alloca() or use pointers.

-fstack-protector-all
Enables protection for all functions.

-Wstack-protector
Warns about functions that will not be protected. Only active when
-fstack-protector has been used.

Applications built with stack smashing protection should link with the
ssp library by using the option -lssp.

More documentation can be found at the project's website:

In my eyes xmms2d is not that kind of daemon that can be considered a

If you like to have xmms2d running when you login just execute
`xmms2-launcher' in your shell starup file or using cron (See [EMAIL PROTECTED]'

The submitter of the bug mentions a problem with the three-pane layout
and also that he has the nostalgy extension installed.

I was just proposing a plausible explanation: nostalgy has a feature to
hide the folder pane, thus turning the 3-pane into a 2-pane layout.
Someone who doesn't know the nostalgy's feature could interpret the
result as the three-pane layout is broken.

Bug#385722: please consider splitting off sysvutils

2006-09-02 Thread martin f krafft
Package: sysvinit
Version: 2.86.ds1-15
Severity: wishlist

Ubuntu has recently split several programmes from sysvinit into
a separate binary package (same source), called sysvutils. The
reason was upstart, which is designed to eventually replace
sysvinit.

  http://www.netsplit.com/blog/work/canonical/upstart.html
  http://www.netsplit.com/blog/work/canonical/upstart2.html
  https://launchpad.net/products/upstart

I have uploaded upstart to Debian experimental, but it's starting to
become a real maintenance headache with all the divergance.

Would you please consider taking Ubuntu's lead and also providing
a separate package sysvutils?

  http://packages.ubuntu.com/edgy/source/sysvinit

Here's the list of programmes they moved to sysvutils (along with their
manpages):

-rwxr-xr-x root/root 12172 2006-08-31 22:35 ./usr/bin/last
-rwxr-xr-x root/root 4208 2006-08-31 22:35 ./usr/bin/mesg

lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2006-08-31 22:35 ./bin/pidof - ../sbin/killall5

sysvinit then depends on this package.

upstart does too, and it provides the following binaries itself:

-rwxr-xr-x root/root 52768 2006-09-02 03:27 ./sbin/init
-rwxr-xr-x root/root 26528 2006-09-02 03:27 ./sbin/initctl

Bug#384652: xvnc4viewer: Please allow password to be entered in terminal

What help do you require? It seems to me that from upstream's point of
view it's a fairly simple change: test whether stdin is a terminal, and
use the code from the v3 viewer if so, and the new code if not.

Bug#383964: Bug: dspam adds additional newline to message body when processed with LMTP

2006-09-02 Thread Julien Lesaint
Hi, and sorry for not having replied earlier, I did not receive your
first answer. Here are some details about my config.

In dspam.conf:

ServerMode standard
Preference signatureLocation=headers

In the first instance Postfix side's master.cf:

smtp-scan unix- - y - 2 lmtp
-o lmtp_data_done_timeout=1200
-o lmtp_send_xforward_command=yes
-o disable_dns_lookups=yes

I did notice some (a very few) of my incoming emails did not have the
extra newline, but couldn't see any reason to that (same encoding,
content-type, etc -- both were coming from eBay in this case).

I was able to reproduce this by simulating a LMTP session (telnet to the
DSPAM port and send an email by hand; bug reproduced successfully each
time).

Thanks,

There is obviously a else gone missing. The attached patch (against -19,

Well I do not really require anything but as time is a limitation
in my life, any help is appriciated. Ideally I would like a patch that
is tested to work, both when it is a pty and not.

Maybe it should be configurable as well? I do not know why they

I have determined that so far. It is probably not that hard but

You don't have to pinpoint the source of the problem, as m4 has upstream
maintainers who know the code very well.

What I need (before forwarding this report to them) is a way to reproduce it,
something like when I run m4 on this input file using this command line,
I get this error. I trust that you have read the generic guidelines
for reporting bugs.

[ If the input file is large, it would be wonderful if you try to reduce it
to the minimum file which trigger the error before sending it to the BTS ]

Thanks.
