Bug#396944: exim4-daemon-light: upgrading causes panic

I have only seen this happen in chroot environments when /proc was not mounted. Otherwise, the daemon reliably stops in all my test and production environments. yeah, when i was trying to embed guile into something i was working on, gcc complained that gmp.h couldn't be found. i installed libgmp3-dev manually.on another note, i'm getting seg faults - this is a pthread app. if i find out the cause of it - works fine if guile isn't embedded. i'll write up another bug report. or if you have any ideas on what i should be looking for, i'll be glad to help debug this.. thanks.anoop aryalOn 11/4/06, Rob Browning [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Ludovic RESLINGER [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: In fact, libgmp3-dev is a Build-Dependency of guile-1.8, it is mentioned in README file, in upsteam sources. Bug#396751: jpilot: sync fails with SYNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT
I've traced the child jpilot process in gdb. The point of problem appears to be at the call to dlp_ReadSysInfo in sync.c: /* We must do this to take care of the password being required to sync * on Palm OS 4.x */ if (dlp_ReadSysInfo(sd, sys_info) 0) { jp_logf(JP_LOG_WARN, dlp_ReadSysInfo error\n); pi_close(sd); return SYNC_ERROR_READSYSINFO; } Before that call, the palm device is showing that it is setting up to sync. During that call, the palm device puts up the connection lost dialog. The call does not return unless I hit sync again on the cradle. (Perhaps it will eventually time out.) Bug#397058: Should not limit Architecture because of external dependencies
Package: hs-plugins Version: 0.9.10-2 Severity: normal This package has limited its Architecture: line in response to #337868. However, there is no fundamental reason why hs-plugins would not work outside of i386/amd64. The only reason it doesn't work on any other arch is unavailability of ghci there, you can deal with that just fine by having a build-time test on a functional ghci. This way, once ghci starts to work on more architectures, hs-plugins will get built automatically. Please change the architecture: line back to 'any', and ensure for proper FTBFS when ghci is nonfunctional (I understand that ghci is now more clear that it doesn't work (it bails out with error), instead of giving random hissy fits like in #337868). --Jeroen -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-3-k7 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- Jeroen van Wolffelaar [EMAIL PROTECTED] (also for Jabber MSN; ICQ: 33944357) http://Jeroen.A-Eskwadraat.nl -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#378499: xchat: copying highlighted messages
Hello Bart, It seems that the bug was caused by a missing %H at finnish translation of Channel Msg Hilight event. Bug#395948: libmath-bigint-gmp-perl: Cross thread problem with Math::BigInt::GMP
Hello, * Derrik Pates [2006-10-28]: It appears that Math::BigInt::GMP has problems with object accessibility across threads. When I was testing some code I wrote in Perl which uses Math::BigInt::GMP (a user authentication module implementation for AFP written in Perl), I found that a Math::BigInt::GMP object created in the main process causes a segmentation fault in the Perl interpreter after threads are used - even if the object is not being accessed within a child thread, but in the main thread. If the object is created within the subroutine instead, however, it works as expected. I'm not sure if this is a thread safety issue in the XS wrapper code, or in libgmp itself (it claims to be threadsafe, but I don't know how well this has really been tested). This is not a PowerPC specific issue, I've seen the exact same issue on x86 machines as well. Do you have sample code demonstrating this problem? Thanks, Laurent. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

anoop aryal [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: yeah, when i was trying to embed guile into something i was working on, gcc complained that gmp.h couldn't be found. i installed libgmp3-dev manually. on another note, i'm getting seg faults - this is a pthread app. if i find out the cause of it - works fine if guile isn't embedded. i'll write up another bug report. or if you have any ideas on what i should be looking for, i'll be glad to help debug this.. Did you build Guile yourself, and if so, did you change the --with-threads=no setting? I believe that a threaded Guile 1.8 may have problems, at least if fork is used (i.e. open-*-pipe, system, etc.). Bug#394555: gaim crash on irc
Okay, so the answer is that we shouldn't be passing around un-normalized data from the network; it looks like dbus doesn't like invalid UTF-8 or something. If we check to make sure it's valid UTF-8 before emitting, it's fine, but then we could miss sending out some messages from the server just because they have weird characters in them. Maybe this needs to be fixed in DBus? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#330592: init segfault when /selinux exists but a policy can't be loaded
tags 330592 -unreproducible +etch -help severity 330592 critical found 330592 2.86.ds1-20 thanks The reason for the critical level is that this bug has the potential to render the entire system unbootable unless glibc catches the invalid free() calls. See description below for further details. James Westby wrote: However it did not cause a segfault, and I got a completed boot. I did however get *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x0804feb5 *** *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x0804feb5 *** so maybe this is what was the segfault before. I think I've nailed it. in src/init.c:150, after selinuxfs has been sucessfully mounted (but only if it has been succesfully mounted, which would explain why the problem appeared after the /selinux dir was created), is the following step: selinux_mnt = SELINUXMNT; /* set manually since we mounted it */ (and SELINUXMNT is already defined as /selinux/) However, with changes made to libselinux1 since the selinux patch was written for sysvinit, selinux_mnt is now a variable internal to the selinux1 library. In src/init.c:70 of libselinux1 (1.32), we have this line: free(selinux_mnt); So when the children fork:ed by init exit (in the spawn() function from src/init.c), the exit function of the libselinux1 library will also be called and try to free selinux_mnt which has not been allocated with malloc. The result is of course that the child blows up or, due to unrelated changes in glibc, survives with a warning. If it blows up, the error handlers will ensure that it continues respawning over and over. So, the fix would be to apply the selinux patch to sysvinit that is already included in more recent versions (which use the selinux_init_load_policy function instead of manipulating selinux_mnt). Thus I'll close the bug as fixed in sysvinit 2.86.ds1-34. I still suspect that #344471 is a dupe of this bug, but I'll leave that up to the maintainers to deal with. -- David Härdeman

Bug#396122: Summary of the issue
retitle 396122 kernel-package: fails when a kernel-patch adds a config var without a default value thanks The issue, as discussed on IRC, is that newer kbuild runs make silentconfig very often, and that somewhat broke kernel-package expectations. A possible fix would be: - save .config as early as possible - run make defconfig as second step, so any further make invocation is guaranted not to fail on silentconfig - restore the saved .config just before running make whateverconfig OTOH, it may be worth to identify the failing sed - the problem is maybe deeper. The problem with this particular issue is that it makes unusable all kernel-patch packages which add a config var without giving a default answer. And fixing those to add a default answer will break the user's expectation, as I suppose many do the same as I do: wait for make oldconfig to present the choice, to decide what to activate. This is why I propose this bug to be raised to serious. As a sidenote, some things mentionned on IRC that may be of interest: - strace reports culprit as [sed, -e, s%* * Restart config... * * * Pr..., oldconfig to update configuratio..., .mak] - ./.mak shows Work around bad spots in RAM (BADRAM) [Y/n/?] (NEW) aborted! Bug#397072: lcdproc: LCDd fails to start due to incorrect argument syntax in init.d script.

Bug#363991: xfonts-base-transcoded not available any more -- update description :)
Package: xfonts-base Version: 1:1.0.0-4 Followup-For: Bug #363991 Hi :) Since xfonts-base-transcoded is obsolete, I think it's better to update the package description, that currently states: *** This package contains primarily fonts in the ISO 10646-1 and ISO 8859-1 encodings, to conserve disk space. (A small selection of fonts in ISO 8859-8, JIS-X0208.1983, JIS-X0208.1976, and GB2312.1980 fonts are also included.) For other encodings, see the xfonts-base-transcoded package. *** I think the description should mention the fact that the -transcode package is now merged into -base, which is scarcely mentioned anywhere (apart from closed bugs in -transcoded's bug page); this lack of clarity can confuse the users seeking for a package not present anymore in the distro :-) Hope I didn't seem harsh and I made no mess choosing an inappropriate bug to followup too. Bug#397073: konsole: not reading ~/.bashrc
Package: konsole Version: 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-1 Severity: important When starting session programs ~/.bashrc is not being read, which results in some programs not operating as configured. For example... My ~/.bashrc contains: eval `lesspipe` export GIT_PAGER=less which tells gitfm to use less as its pager and less to automatically uncompress files for viewing. However, because .bashrc is not read the ^xv key command results in a may be a binary file. See it anyway? message and forces me to type (and often escape) a zless ... command. This is a minor annoyance with short filenames, but with long names it requires cutting back to one pane to see the entire name, and with very long names it requires that plus widening the Konsole window to full width and greatly reducing the font size before the entire name is visible for cut'n'pasting onto the command line... effectively rendering GIT's ^xv command useless. This is a regression from the v3.4.x behaviour (afaict), and I think it is important because it can have a major affect on the useability of programs run in Konsole. - Bruce -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-onegee Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages konsole depends on: ii kdelibs4c2a4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-3 core libraries and binaries for al ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc11:4.1.1-19GCC support library ii libstdc++6 4.1.1-19 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libxrender11:0.9.1-3 X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxtst6 1:1.0.1-5 X11 Testing -- Resource extension konsole recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#387447: esvn: All files unknown with new subversion client
Hello, It seems esvn is trying to parse files .svn/entries directly, and the format of that files has changed since subversion 1.4. Exactly, reading the doc from the SVN source tree, the .svn/entries have been changed from XML to internal text format. I propose a patch to add the capability into eSVN to parse this new format. It seems to work fine on my system ; but I'm not very accustomed to C++ and some mistakes could still be in the patch. More over, it's the first patch I propose to Debian and thus format of the file maybe wrong or I'm not sending it to the right location. Be indulgent! I also send it directly to the authors. I hope it can be checked and include soon because eSVN is a very usefull soft. Best regards, Damien. esvn-svn1.4.patch.gz Description: GNU Zip compressed data

Package: openoffice.org-calc Version: 2.0.4-5 Severity: important this occured some months ago with an older 2.0.x version, but quickly disappeared in a regular upgrade. Hi Loïc, I just discussed with Sjoerd Simmons, the maintainer of g-v-m and hal, that we will ship etch with g-v-m, which prefers pmount (over gnome-mount). It's too late in the release process to change the default from pmount to gnome-mount and we are aiming at etch+1 for that change. So please keep this request on hold until etch is released. I don't think they should be considered equivalent as long as the file system does not regard them as equivalent: vin% touch `echo e\\\u300` vin% touch `echo \\\ue8` vin% ls è è But I wonder if this is a bug in the glibc. Bug#397089: dbconfig-common: migration fails when dbconfig-load-include returns empty values
Package: dbconfig-common Version: 1.8.28 Severity: important Package upgrades fail if dbconfig-load-include returns empty output during the migration from a package without dbconfig-common support. This situation can occur if dbconfig-load-include is unable to parse the specified configuration file, or the configuration file currently uses a database type that is not supported by dbconfig-common. An example from the PHPwiki package. phpwiki is using a custom load script, eg dbc_load_include=exec:$loadscript In some cases the script cannot parse the config file (it's using an unsupported db type) and returns blank output, eg: dbc_dbuser='' dbc_dbpass='' dbc_basepath='' dbc_dbname='' dbc_dbserver='' dbc_dbport='' dbc_dbtype='' This is the same output that dbconfig-load-include outputs if run in other modes and given a file that does not contain valid information. dbconfig-common then tries to load the answer into the debconf database, because no dbtype is set the templates it tries to use do not exist. + read -r _db_internal_line + RET='value set' + case ${_db_internal_line%%[ ]*} in + return 0 + db_set phpwiki//app-pass '' + _db_cmd 'SET phpwiki//app-pass' '' + IFS=' ' + printf '%s\n' 'SET phpwiki//app-pass ' + IFS=' ' + read -r _db_internal_line + RET='10 phpwiki//app-pass doesn'\''t exist' + case ${_db_internal_line%%[ ]*} in + return 10 dpkg: error processing phpwiki (--install): subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 10 I think the solution to this bug is that dbconfig-common should check the output to dbconfig-load-include to ensure that valid answers were able to be extracted, and only load the answers into debconf if that is true. If nothing could be read from the existing config, the user should see a warning and dbconfig-common should proceed as if its a new installation (ask the user if they want to use dbconfig-common, etc). Bug#397089: dbconfig-common: migration fails when dbconfig-load-include returns empty values
tag 397089 + patch thanks Matt Brown wrote: I think the solution to this bug is that dbconfig-common should check the output to dbconfig-load-include to ensure that valid answers were able to be extracted, and only load the answers into debconf if that is true. I'll see if I can come up with a patch to implement this behaviour. Ok, patch attached. This changes the behaviour of dbconfig common in three ways 1) If the dbconfig-load-include script fails to set dbc_dbtype it is assumed to have failed and none of its return values are used. 2) The user is always asked whether they want to use dbconfig-common to manage the database. Previously this only happened for new installs, migrations were assumed to want to use dbconfig-common. I see no justification for why the user shouldn't have a choice when upgrading. 3) dbconfig-load-include now runs before the state machine starts so that the user can make a decision on whether to use dbconfig-common based on whether or not the migration succeeded. I think this is a reasonable solution to the problem. I've only filed the bug as important as it breaks a subset of cases, but it would be nice to get this fix into etch if possible. Bug#396712: phpwiki: post-installation script error: return: can only `return' from a function or sourced script
Matt Brown wrote: Hmm, I see the bug, I'll upload a fixed package tonight. Thanks for the report. Ok. I've fixed the error in the PHPwiki package, upgrades from installations that are currently using DBA databases are still not going to be completely smooth though thanks to the following bug in dbconfig-common. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=397089 Once that bug is fixed, an upgrade from PHPwiki using DBA will go smoothly, but your database won't be automatically migrated to dbconfig-common control. Given that DBA hasn't been supported in the PHPwiki packages for a long time now, I don't think I can justify upgrading the severity of either bug. You best hope for a clean upgrade at the moment is to migrate to sqlite (or mysql or postgres if you prefer) before you attempt to upgrade the PHPwiki package. The best way to do this is to use the dump file feature at PhpWikiAdministration to get the data out of the DBA database, create a new (blank) database of the appropriate type and then use the corresponding import feature at PhpWikiAdministration to get the data back in. I hope you find that helpful. Cheers -- Matt Brown Debian Developer [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mob +64 21 611 544 www.mattb.net.nz signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#395454: guile-1.8-dev: requires libgmp-dev but isn't a dependency
anoop aryal [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: no forks involved. pthreads, sockets, read(), write() mostly. i did not build guile. didn't realize that it came with --with-threads=no. maybe i should try recompiling myself. hmm.. If I'm not mistaken, I don't think that right now --with-threads=yes will help you, and it might hurt. -- Rob Browning rlb @defaultvalue.org and @debian.org; previously @cs.utexas.edu GPG starting 2002-11-03 = 14DD 432F AE39 534D B592 F9A0 25C8 D377 8C7E 73A4 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#396523: gcompris: missing python-gtk2 dependencies
On Sat, Nov 04, 2006 at 11:23:29PM +0100, Yann Dirson wrote: I'm not sure what your problem is. gcompris 7.4 depends on python-gnome2, which in turn depends on python-gtk2. Hrm. FWIW, python-gnome2 is not required any more in 8.2, but I did not add a python-gtk2 dep - this may indeed be missing. Can you please give more details ? Yes, I believe you should add python-gtk2. I'm not sure if I originally installed 7.4 before I upgraded to an unofficial 8.x. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#397091: debootstrap-udeb: Depends on libgcc_s.so.1 on MIPS
Package: debootstrap-udeb Version: 0.3.3 Severity: important The version of debootstrap-udeb in the archive depends on libgcc_s.so.1. This library is not included in debian-installer; as a result, d-i does not work on MIPS. I'm not sure how this happened; maybe it was built with a transient GCC bug and just needs to be rebuilt? -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.19-rc1 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#397092: cyrus-imapd-2.2: source package includes CVS directories
Package: cyrus-imapd-2.2 Version: 2.2.13-9 Severity: minor apt-get source cyrus-imapd-2.2 produced a directory tree with many CVS subdirectories and the corresponding entries. Bug#38334: Duplicate bug?
Hi Tomas, On Sun, 2006-11-05 at 00:49:33 +0100, Tomas Pospisek wrote: Package: dpkg Version: 1.13.22 Followup-For: Bug #38334 So is this bug a duplicate of #260696 and could be closed? Well yes and no, it's a duplicate but probably the other one should not have been closed, just merged with this. dpkg supports backgrounding (which is the default as Frank said on the other bug report) and making a subshell (done when the env var NOJOBCTRLSTOPENV is set). So this should be fixed, either by removing the background stuff, or by showing the proper message. regards, guillem -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#363120: xserver-xorg-core: still unfixed
I wrote: X still freezes after apm suspend/resume cycle in the current etch version. The situation as changed, though. In the 7.0 version the workaround to switch to a text console on the apm suspend event (via chvt) worked. Now the screen goes blank immediately, before the apm scripts are run. And there's even an error tone before suspend actions are carried out. Tobias -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
