Sorry, but I don't understand this report. What precise text are you
referring too? The installation of a Debian system is made up of many prompts
and the X configuration has a number of messages.

Please tell us which message you did not understand (you can find all of them
in /var/cache/debconf/templates.dat) and if you have a proposal for an
alternate translation please also attach it to the bug report.

This translation pertains to the xorg package. Spanish translators,
please check and eventually correct the attached file. The offending
strings are the first strings in the file.

Hmm, as I've just noted in the bug log, this is not a question of the
fidelity of the translation; it's a problem with the resulting behavior
which is reported to be different from what's documented in both the English
and Spanish debconf templates.

I identified the problem as a -pie link which seems to be broken.
The folowing lines explains the problem :

printf(hello world !\n);
return 0;

Do we really neeed the portmap to be pie ?
Feel free to forward the problem if you can identify the problem.
I already opened a problem (#426889) with the binutils but I'm not
sure they are related.
It could be a dynamic linker bug or a gcc bug.

Bug#426983: hung during loading first run

2007-06-01 Thread Joey Hess
Package: fretsonfire
Version: 1.2.451.dfsg-1
Severity: normal

The first time I ran fretsonfire (actually I ran aoss fretsonfire), it
put up a black screen with a casette tape and loading on it, and
played the intro music in a loop for 10 minutes until I ctrl-alt-deled
the X server. It did not seem to be hitting the disk, at least not much
if at all.

Now when I start it, it gets to the main menu in seconds each time, I
don't even see the casette tape screen.

Weird..

Bug#422973: lsb: General update after the debconf review process

2007-06-01 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Sunday, April 22, 2007, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a
review
action on debconf templates for lsb.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and annoucing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/templates with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch-nopo file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s).

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Sunday, April 22, 2007. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

2007-06-01 Thread Christian Perrier

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Sunday, May 13, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for exim4.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading exim4 with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Monday, June 04, 2007, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
Saturday, June 16, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

On Sunday, June 17, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Sorry, but I don't understand this report. What precise text are you

Bug#426990: 'test' builtin of bash returns wrong value for '! -a FILE' operation

2007-06-01 Thread OZAKI Masanobu
Package: bash
Version: 2.05b-26

Though I have not tested for the stable version, I am afraid this bug
still exists in the latest version because I cannot find any related
bug on the BTS.
Not only Debian (oldstable) but the latest Suse has the same
problem, and I am afraid this is a very widely-spread unfixed bug...

Please try
  % bash -c 'test ! -a . echo true'
and compare with the result of
  % bash -c '/usr/bin/test ! -a . echo true'
.
The '[' builtin has the same problem, as expected.

What is interesting is that the results of
  % bash -c 'test ! -z foo echo true'
and
  % bash -c '/usr/bin/test ! -z foo echo true'
agree to each other.

Masanobu Ozaki

Hello again,

I finally was able to correct the problem, thanks to this page :

Looks like the update didn't alter the search table to add the

I created the fix.php file and ran it, and it now works perfectly.

Thanks,

Bug#426944: multiple requests in one report

2007-06-01 Thread Neil Williams
(One suggestion is that it could accept install as well as
--install, for more consistency with apt-get. And a -s for
 simulate would also be appreciated.)

That's two wishlist bugs - I'm personally not convinced that supporting
-i|--install|install is worthwhile because apt-cross commands and
options do not always overlap the similar apt-get commands and options.
The two programs are related, of course, but I do not think it is wise
to make apt-cross mimic apt-get commands and options. apt-get is
intended for use with an entire distribution; apt-cross is only to make
foreign libraries and headers available to a cross-compiler. The
manpage makes the point that apt-cross cannot and should not seek to be
capable of installing or maintaining an entire cross install. Making
apt-cross too similar to apt-get would only increase the confusion
about the purpose of apt-cross.

At this time, I do not think that 'install' should be supported, only
--install or -i.

(Note that empdebuild {emdebian-tools} *does* mimic the underlying
pbuilder code and use the same options in the same way. That is because
it calls unchanged pbuilder functions directly
from /usr/lib/pbuilder/foo and it has been explicitly designed to be as
close to pbuilder and pdebuild as possible. Where there is clear
overlap, I would support use of the same commands and options but I do
not think this applies to apt-cross.)

The --simulate (the -s and -S options are already taken) option could
be added at some point in the future but there is a code rewrite
planned after DebConf so --simulate would have to wait until then. More
likely will be a --yes option and modified behaviour in --install so
that when the list of packages has been calculated, the user is
shown the list of packages and prompted to confirm installation. The
--yes option would override the prompt and provide the current
behaviour. i.e. the default would be --simulate or at least
--interactive. I think that is a better plan, overall. That is also
similar to apt-get, again raising the need to ensure that users are
clear on how apt-cross differs from apt-get.

(I've added that to the upstream TODO file so there is no need to file
a wishlist bug about that.)

=== main bug report ===

So the bug is that for unstable and testing it seemed to
automatically download the package files while for stable it didn't.

apt-cross isn't in stable. There are bugs in the dpkg-cross framework
in stable that are fixed in lenny and some bugs in lenny that have been
fixed in sid. At this time, apt-cross cannot realistically support
stable just as it cannot support oldstable. The next release will
depend on dpkg-dev = 1.14 (via dpkg-cross = 1.38) as a result of more
of these fixes which will make installation on stable impractical.

However, I need to see the output requested below before I can work out
why --update was not triggered in your case.

And/or, that without the package files it printed only a very terse
message, not no packages files, please run apt-cross --update.

(The message has already been fixed upstream.)

Here is the contents of my sources.list, exluding commented-out
lines, in case it is relevent :

Actually, considerably more useful is the output of:

$ apt-cache policy

Please excuse me if I am doing something stupid (or if you consider
my expectations unreasonable!), and thank you for this excellent tool.

I wouldn't go that far but I think there are reasonable limits on what
apt-cross can actually support and etch just isn't quite at that level.
That said, there is a difference between running apt-cross on
unstable / testing and querying stable and trying to run apt-cross on
stable directly.

So a few requests for clarification please:

$ cat /etc/debian_version

$ apt-cache policy

Have you got similar content in ~/.dpkg-cross for stable as you have
for testing and unstable (judging just by filenames and file sizes)?

What is the content of ~/.dpkg-cross/stable/lists ?

Bug#426994: ITP: mm3d -- Misfit Model 3D

2007-06-01 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: mm3d
  Version : 1.2.4 or/and 1.3.4
Upstream Authors: Kevin Worcester [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.misfitcode.com/misfitmodel3d/
* License : GNU GPL
  Description : Misfit Model 3D
This is an OpenGL-based 3D model editor that works with triangle-based models.
It supports multi-level undo, skeletal animations, simple texturing, scripting,
command-line batch processing, and a plugin system for adding new model and image
filters. Complete online help is included. It is designed to be easy to use and
easy to extend with plugins and scripts.

I might put the 1.3.4 into experimental once 1.2.4 is done.

The reason I do this is because of people (including me) might want to make
models in md3 for www.sauerbraten.org (which is also packaged in debian,
non-free and contrib, because nobody wants to go through the licenses
of the maps and textures, and sounds -- irc.quakenet.org #sauerbraten)
The md3 part needs a plugin I'll do later.

Bug#427016: network-manager: fails to remove /etc/resolvconf/run/interfaces/interface when switching inteface during suspend

2007-06-01 Thread Finn-Arne Johansen
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.6.4-6
Severity: normal

I'm using a wireless network at home, and a wired network at the
office. When I move from home to the office in the morning, I suspend
my machine (by pressing Fn+Suspend on my x300). when I arrive at
the office I connect the cable, and opens the lid, and the machine
resumes. The machine wakes up and detects that it has a cabled connection,
and connects. But the problem is that resolv.conf still holds the entry
for my home connection, so I need to run sudo resolvconf -d eth2
before things start to work properly. When I get home in the evening,
the same thing happens, except now I need to run sudo resolvconf -f eth0
to remove then cabled connection.

Not sure if it's fixed, in testing/unstable version, as this will include
a lot more upgrades than I want to do at the moment :(

If you think it's fixed, I could try to backport, and check.

I would refuse to add such an option, because the common way to cancel

Maybe some documentation in a prominent place (say README.Debian) would help

Bug#408271: fai-server: fai-setup and make-fai-nfsroot: make /srv/tftp/fai configurable

2007-06-01 Thread Raoul Borenius
Hi Thomas,

Not quite sure if I already sent you this before but this whishlist
bug is incomplete without it:

Currently fai-chboot tries to read $NFSROOT from /etc/fai/fai.conf.
But to support both i386 and amd64 on the same server it would be nice
to have a commandline switch to specify the path to the nfsroot, for
example:

fai-chboot -D /srv/tftp/fai/i386/pxelinux.cfg -FI -R /srv/fai/nfsroot/i386 HOST

fai-chboot -D /srv/tftp/fai/amd64/pxelinux.cfg -FI -R /srv/fai/nfsroot/amd64
HOST

Otherwise one has to edit the pxe-bootfile in
/srv/tftp/fai/amd64/pxelinux.cfg/... after running fai-chboot.

 Raoul

Bug#426800: Graphical errors in game. Screenshot linked.

Hi

I'm using nvidia beta drivers 100.13.06 now. Earlier if I remember
correctly I was using the stable 9755 drivers with the same results.
I've installed the drivers with nvidia installer.

Might it matter that I have xorg set up so that I can occasionally try
compiz. (though I wasn't running compiz at the time of problem) So I
have in xorg.conf AllowGLXWithComposite true, AddARGBVisuals true,
rendererAccel true.

Graphics card is an nvidia 6600 GT. Other opengl games work just fine.

Bug#427012: coreutils: ln -f option does not work for directories

2007-06-01 Thread Jan Willem Stumpel
Package: coreutils
Version: 5.97-5.3
Severity: wishlist

If I have a symlink

  mylink - A

and I want to change it to

  mylink - B

I can say

  ln -sf B mylink

However, this only works if A is a regular file. It does not work if A is a
directory. Why is this so?

The ln command can be used for *creating* links both to files and
directories. It would be nice if it could be used (with the -f option) for
*modifying* links both to files and directories also.

If I remember correctly this is problem with xinerama, and xinerama bug
decscription that I have found later said, that correction needs major rewrite.
I will check everything again and update bug report.

Hi!

The orig.tar.gz does not have any license text. Please ask upstream to

Right now the orig.tar.gz is not redistributable, so this should not
even have passed source NEW.

Thanks for the updated translation, unfortunately you translated an
somewhat older template. I attached a new version with a few fuzzies.
It could very well be that some are only whitespace fixes btw.

Bug#427001: drupal5: trouble creating postgres DB tables after install

2007-06-01 Thread Scott Scriven
Package: drupal5
Version: 5.1-1

The README.Debian.gz file does not explain how to create database tables
for drupal. My suggestion is to add documentation, to avoid the process
I went through:

After installing drupal5, I tried to access my new site, and got errors
such as:

Warning: pg_query() [function.pg-query]: Query failed: ERROR: relation
  access does not exist in
  /usr/share/drupal5/includes/database.pgsql.inc on line 125

Warning: ERROR: relation access does not exist query: SELECT
CASE WHEN status=1 THEN 0 ELSE 1 END FROM access WHERE type =
'host' AND LOWER('10.5.5.7') LIKE LOWER(mask) ORDER BY status DESC LIMIT
  1 OFFSET 0 in /usr/share/drupal5/includes/database.pgsql.inc on line 144

Looking closer, I found that the drupal5 database has no tables. I can
log in with psql -U drupal5 -h localhost drupal5, using the password
in /etc/drupal/5/sites/default/dbconfig.php , so it appears that the
database exists and user access is configured correctly.

I checked /usr/share/doc/drupal5/INSTALL.pgsql.txt for hints on setting
up the DB, but it only explained the parts I had already verified as
working. It does not mention loading a schema.

So, I checked upstream sources.

The INSTALL.txt in the upstream source says to create DB tables simply
by loading the site's front page in a web browser, then clicking
Database Configuration. I just get errors on the front page, so there
is no link to follow.

Asking on #drupal-support, I found that the correct URL is
http://mysite/install.php

So, I tried that URL, and got a different error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to
  allocate 23040 bytes) in /usr/share/drupal5/modules/node/node.module
  on line 1692

Oops, I had the default PHP settings, which apparently are too
restrictive. So, I changed the limit to 40M, reloaded the page, and got
a drupal is already installed error. Fair enough; the previous
attempt got killed. So, I dropped/recreated the DB and tried
install.php again, and it worked.

Anyway, a bit of text added to README.Debian.gz would help improve this
process. :)

Bug#426166: Perhaps be more explicit about creating a separate file

2007-06-01 Thread era eriksson
I like this suggestion, but I had to read it three times to see that you
actually mentioned putting these commands in a file. Perhaps this could
be a little bit more explicit? For newbies, it might also be useful to
say a word or two about how to create a useful name for the file (I
personally add .local to all my own files in /etc/modprobe.d, for
example).

Also, I'm afraid /usr/share/doc/module-init-tools/FAQ is not a visible
enough location for this information. Perhaps even a patch against the
modprobe.conf manual proper could be considered?

Neil, I'll build portmap without -pie unless you have any
objection.

Feel free to forward the problem if you can identify the problem.
I already opened a problem (#426889) with the binutils but I'm not
sure they are related.
It could be a dynamic linker bug or a gcc bug.

o.ae. Das ist dann allerdings ein User-Problem.

Waiting in the background until dpkg.lock is removed might indeed be an
alternative. To make sure dpkg knows that configuring failed, one could
call dpkg-reconfigure $known-to-fail-package.

Not that I think we will have time to implement this soon, but if
someone else wants to implement a patch... I'm forwarding this to the
bug, just in case.

Bug#423298: mercury: should this package be orphaned?

2007-06-01 Thread Roy Ward

I'd like to adopt the mercury (and mercury-docs) packages, unless someone more
qualified wishes to do it.

I've been using Mercury on Debian (i386 and amd64) for some years now, and want
this easily available to other Debian users.

I am not a Mercury developer, but the feedback I've had from the devs is It's fine by us if I adopt the package. I've
also had some feedback from the previous maintainer.

Some years ago, I contributed to the MacOSX (powerpc) port of Mercury, so I have some knowledge of the build system. I
would not be able to make any significant changes to the code, but could pass relevant bug reports back upstream.

I am also not a Debian Developer, so I will be seeking a sponsor at some point
to do package uploads.

My plan would be to package numbered releases of Mercury only (currently 0.13.1) which would deal with bug #281369 and
this bug, and to have Mercury depend on an appropriate version of gcc (Mercury is very fussy about gcc version) which
would deal with bugs #297217 and #381813.

Note that this is very early in the process - I have not yet constructed any packages (there's a learning curve there),
but thought I'd get this out early so as to avoid any risk of duplication of effort - if someone else is looking at
doing this, please let me know!

Cheers,
Roy Ward.

That, too, I think is too generic.

Bug#427011: coreutils: ln man page unnecessarily alarming

2007-06-01 Thread Jan Willem Stumpel
Package: coreutils
Version: 5.97-5.3
Severity: minor

The man page of ln explains the -f option as follows:

  -f, --force
  remove existing destination files

This caused me to avoid this option because I did not like the idea of any
files being removed. Please change this text to something like:

  -f, --force
override the TARGET part of an existing link.

N.B. It seems that -f only works if TARGET is a regular file (not a
directory), but this is a separate bug.

Bug#406206: Closed bug #406206 still affecting me in Etch

2007-06-01 Thread Laurent Chardon
Hello,

I dist-upgraded from sarge to etch and I am having problems with the
package aide. The problem is the same as reported in bug #406206.

The version packaged in Etch is 0.13.1-2. I saw that you created a
version 0.13.1-3 in unstable (I think) to fix #406206, but this bug
should be fixed in Etch also.

Thank you,

Laurent

Thanks for reporting that.
Would you please repeat that test with

In place of this line,

use this:

  strace -o /tmp/chgrp-log chgrp -R $g2 d /dev/null 2out fail=1

and then /tmp/chgrp-log should give us a clue about why that
chgrp invocation is succeeding when it shouldn't.

It might be useful also to see the output of running that

Bug#426943: *_crypt naming causes df to line-wrap

The naming of crypto devices as hda1_crypt causes df to use two

I'm not sure what the point is...is it merely cosmetic? Because if it is,
cr_X is not that nice either. Also, the default crypto install uses LVM
which greatly increases the risk of other lines with line wraps anyway.
Finally, if we add persistent device names along the line of
/dev/disk/by-something/* that will also increase the risk.

So unless someone explains to me in which way I've misunderstood this, I'm
inclined to close the bug report.

Point. I'm now looking at libpkginfo: do you see any problems with

2007-06-01 Thread Adeodato Simó
Package: python-fuse
Version: 1:0.2-pre3-2
Severity: normal

Hello.

Subject says all: the fuse.ko module is now part of vanilla kernels, so
giving instructions about how to compile it in README.Debian is useless
and confusing.

I think it'd suffice to say that the module must be loaded, that the
user must belong to the 'fuse' group, and that the module can be
automatically loaded on boot via /etc/modules.

Cheers,

Bug#426874: ITP: pkg -- High-level library for managing Debian package information

2007-06-01 Thread Enrico Zini

This name seems overly generic to me. There are already libpkg
libraries for the FreeBSD and RiscPkg (RISCOS) package managers, and
Debian's library packaging guide is referred to as libpkg-guide.

Uhm, no, pkginfo isn't appropriate because ideally one would also do
install and uninstall, so it's not just about information.

*sigh*, I hate finding names.

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#406206: [Pkg-aide-maintainers] Bug#406206: Closed bug #406206 still affecting me in Etch

should be fixed in Etch also.

It was not suitable for etch pre-release, so it it by no means
suitable for etch post-release. Sorry.

Just pull the cron script from any unstable or lenny package.

Greetings

Bug#423019: should fail to start if /dev/watchdog does not exist

If I fail to read README.Debian (#287969) and just install watchdog

 disabled the writing to /dev/watchdog.

It's possible to disable it. Also watchdog should report an error in
syslog. Nevertheless I will change watchdog to modprobe a user given
module before starting.

Bug#328479: X11 (??) unsets LD_LIBRARY_PATH

 Hi,

I initialize the environment for KDE with a script in /usr/env. Somebody

ssh_agent resets LD_LIBRARY_PATH (under Sarge and Etch).
Under Etch startkde calls ssh-agent /usr/bin/dbus-launch.
But under Sarge ssh-agent starts startkde.

Bug#421037: #421037 libc6: SIGILL on upgrade on netwinder

Hi Woody,

we are having a problem with glibc2.5 upgrade causing SIGILL
on netwinders. We have not been able reproduce it using etch kernels,
but the bug appears reproducible on europa/elera. Can you have
a look at the issue[1]?

Cheers,
Riku

[1] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=421037

Aurelien,

It sounds familiar. I think that about a month or 2 ago after
dist-upgrading my unstable machine I was stuck with some libc postinst
issue. As I recall, I simply went back on libstdc package, and it
started to work again. Then after couple of days I did another
dist-upgrade, and had no problems, so I assumed it was a one-off build
issue...

However, we can easily work on it...

Please contact me directly, and we can start banging on it, chroot'et or
directly...

As to the elara/europa kernel - it looks to me like a mine hand-rolled
kernel built in 2005 on my other machine (Windy). We can start replacing
the kernels as you wish...

TTYL, Woody
