Bug#428808: [Buildd-tools-devel] Bug#428808: schroot: Fails if chroot's /etc/resolv.conf already points to the right resolv.conf

That's not recommended, in case anything trashes your host system's passwd/group/resolv.conf. We deliberately copy them into the chroot so that bind-mounted files on the host can't be accidentally damaged either by the setup scripts or any action taken inside the chroot. Yeah I know that. Actually I use this only for /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/hosts. Anything that can be changed by packages (like passwd files) is voluntarily kept as separate files. This isn't ideal; I'm willing to look into any suggestions for better ways of handling these files inside the chroot. Ideally it should better cope with different NSS configurations in addition to files, but we can't be sure the necessary packages are present to cope with different setups. I don't have any suggestion for this. It looks like /etc/schroot/setup.d/20network could be enhanced to check for this specific case at least. Or it could simply do nothing if the chroot's resolv.conf is a symlink. We can certainly stat(1) both and check if the device and inode numbers are the same. I'm not so sure about the symlink; I don't know how the script can be certain of correctly assuming the intent of the system administrator in this case. You need to resolve (readlink -f or -e) the symlink before doing the stat in any case. Because the symlink has its own inode number. Another simpler solution is to copy the file only if it's needed (i.e. when the content differs). You calculate the md5sum of each file and you copy only when they differ. This is even better I think. Cheers, -- Raphaël Hertzog Premier livre français sur Debian GNU/Linux : http://www.ouaza.com/livre/admin-debian/

Bug#428783: linux-latest-2.6: Use new Breaks field to avoid installing new kernel image if old packaged modules are installed
On Thu, 14 Jun 2007, Steve Langasek wrote: My two objections to this are scalability, and lack of comprehensiveness. It's not scalable because it means the maintainers of the linux-latest-2.6 package have to centrally keep track of every package in the archive providing a module metapackage; and it's not comprehensive because you say at the end that you only want it to list packages that are autobuilt. Well, the fact that I restrict it to auto-built package is precisely a compromise in favor of scalability. Auto-built packages are already centralized in linux-modules-* and it should be doable to automate this process much like the rest is already automated. Why would it not be sufficient for the metapackages to each depend on the corresponding linux-image package? That eliminates the need for a central registry of such packages. You could be right... do you mean something like this? Package: something-modules-2.6-686 Depends: linux-image-2.6-686 (= 2.6.21+7) This should give the same behaviour indeed. The modules meta-package would be broken when the linux-image-2.6 metapackages are upgraded unsynchronized. I guess either you include some theme (better) or fix the description to say there's no theme included :-) Thanks, the change is commited in svn, along with new upstream release. Bug#428666: squidGuard -dosen't filter files based on expressions
I understand. However, would you consider building the alpha and run a commandline test for me? Then we'll know if there is an issue to fix. You can run squidGuard from the command line without putting it online. I do this all the time on my server. The way to do it is like this: echo ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/latest-2.0/win32/sk/Thunderbird Setup 2.0.0.4.exe 127.0.0.1/ - - GET | squidGuard -dc $confdir/squidGuard.conf I could try. However, please, could You send me an expression that SHOULD work for matching the exe files? Or the one I posted should work really? Bug#428934: vsftpd: wildcard expansion behaves weird
Package: vsftpd Version: 2.0.5-2 Severity: normal Hi, I found something weird with the wildcard expansion of vsftpd. For example I have this file in my ftproot. This is what 'ls' in a bash shell does: # ls -lsa 0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root0 Jun 15 08:26 testfile.Zyada.Z # ls -l *.Z -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jun 15 08:26 testfile.Zyada.Z Now I use a ftp client (doesn't matter which one) to connect to the server: ftp ls 200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV. 150 Here comes the directory listing. -rw-r--r--1 00 0 Jun 15 08:26 testfile.Zyada.Z 226 Directory send OK. ftp ls *.Z 200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV. 150 Here comes the directory listing. 226 Directory send OK. ftp This is lftp as client: lftp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/ ls *.Z lftp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/ ls *.Z* -rw-r--r--1 00 201 Jun 15 08:33 testfile.Zyada.Z lftp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/ This is decidedly different from what other ftp servers and shells like bash do! Can you please look into this? Thanks!! Bug#407788: x11-common init script cause bootup hang when using nss_ldap for LDAP-based user and groups
Hello Brice, I can confirm that this still happens with etch. Like written in the bug report it seems this is a issue with nsswitch and ldap (and also probably with other network-based nss modules). But I opened this bug for x11-common, because the question is why they initscript /etc/init.d/x11-common uses 0:0 instead of root:root in line 37 and 51. If this script would use chown root:root $ICE_DIR, libnss-ldap would ignore this lookup request if specified in nss_initgroups_ignoreusers and the script wouldn't hang during bootup. I have already tested this. Cheers, Andreas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#271154: console-common: unicode_start, unicode_stop, tail, cut, locale are not always available when keymap.sh runs
Package: console-common Version: 0.7.69 Followup-For: Bug #271154 If the mentioned utilities are not available (/usr is on a separate partition which is not mounted yet) unicode_start_stop() does nothing (silently returns). This results in a non-functional keyboard when the script loads a keymap later. I am talking about the case where the system locale is in UTF-8. kbd_mode from kbd package is installed to /bin/ and could be used instead of unicode_*. Use of tail and cut could be eliminated, but the main trouble is with /usr/bin/locale. Perhaps it is better to have a separate config file in /etc/default/ than to parse locale strings. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (900, 'stable'), (500, 'proposed-updates') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-minimal Locale: LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages console-common depends on: ii console-data 2:1.01-7 Keymaps, fonts, charset maps, fall ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.13 Debian configuration management sy ii debianutils 2.17 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii kbd 1.12-18Linux console font and keytable ut ii lsb-base 3.1-23.1 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip console-common recommends no packages. -- debconf information: console-data/keymap/powerpcadb: console-data/keymap/ignored: * console-data/keymap/full: ru3 console-data/keymap/template/keymap: * console-data/keymap/policy: Don't touch keymap console-data/bootmap-md5sum: 55ab5ab5763f14c98d2b02f19cad02d1 console-data/keymap/template/layout: console-data/keymap/family: qwerty console-data/keymap/template/variant: -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#420339: gnome-screensaver blanks screen and does not display dialog when 2 XRandR 1.2 output are connected
forwarded 420339 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354663 thanks On Sat, 21 Apr 2007, Brice Goglin wrote: retitle -1 gnome-screensaver blanks screen and does not display dialog when 2 XRandR 1.2 output are connected In fact, the second monitor is blanked and the dialog is shown on the first. However when both monitors display the same screen (or when one displays a subset of the other), you end with the blanked screen above the usual screen. In my case the first screen is almost two times bigger so I see about half of the dialog. :) gnome-screensaver needs to detect this by checking framebuffer coordinates of what's displayed on each monitor. It looks like there's a patch in the gnome bugtracker, I tested it and it works (at least for my case). Bug#386815: gtk+2.0: FTBFS (ppc64): sibling call optimization to `IA__gdk_display_open' does not allow automatic multiple TOCs; recompile with -mminimal-toc or -fno-optimize-sibling-calls
Hello, On Thu, Jun 14, 2007 at 10:47:32PM +0200, Loïc Minier wrote: Thanks for the patch, I've applied it to the experimental tree which should soon move to unstable. Great, thanks! Since it's failing during ld, I would have assumed I could use LDFLAGS instead of CFLAGS, do you think that would be a problem? The -mminimal-toc flag has to be in CFLAGS. Otherwise the package does not build. Do you agree it's a bug in binutils? Or do you think gtk upstream should make IA__gdk_display_open extern on ppc64? (I'd like to get this fixed at the proper place to build out of the box; either ld should find its way, or gtk's upstream should change the code and/or pass a flag for ppc64.) I am not sure if this will be considered as a bug in binutils by the relevant toolchain people. Personally, I think it should be possible to build large pieces of code on ppc64 without having to explicitly add the extra -mminimal-toc flag. The ppc64 architecture seems to be the only architecture which requires such a flag for large object code sizes. There should be a way to handle this by the toolchain automatically. However, I do not think that the ppc64 toolchain will be changed to do this in the near future. At the moment there is no other fix for this problem besides adding -mminimal-toc flags to CFLAGS. Bug#428805: [Buildd-tools-devel] Bug#428805: schroot: Fails to start a directory chroot
Hi, On Thu, 14 Jun 2007, Roger Leigh wrote: Regarding your other mail, we could indeed check whether the directory is mounted before mounting. However, I'm not sure we can assume that the user doesn't want a filesystem mounting over the top of another (we don't know if they are the same or not). This would be possible for real filesystems where we can stat the block device and mountpoint and compare the block-major and -minor numbers. However, for procfs, devpts, tmpfs et. al., this is not really possible AFAICT--the device numbers are not easily accessible or can vary. Do you have any thoughts here? Another solution (that looks cleaner) is to use mount --bind rather than mount --rbind. That way, you don't keep the sub-mounts. Extract from the mount man page: Since Linux 2.4.0 it is possible to remount part of the file hierarchy somewhere else. The call is mount --bind olddir newdir After this call the same contents is accessible in two places. One can also remount a single file (on a single file). This call attaches only (part of) a single filesystem, not possible submounts. The entire file hierarchy including submounts is attached a second place using mount --rbind olddir newdir - Currently you're using --rbind for directory. You should probably use --rbind for plain and --bind for directory. Cheers, -- Raphaël Hertzog Premier livre français sur Debian GNU/Linux : http://www.ouaza.com/livre/admin-debian/

So, ich added '\usepackage[utopia]{mathdesign}' to my preamble, executed 'latex mydocument.tex' and was baffled by an error '! Missing number, treated as zero.' (see minimal input file). Most likely the problem is that german.sty makes the active, so that it no longer has its usual meaning. Not all LaTeX style packages can cope with that. Even bm.sty, which is an official package from the tools collection, does not like this (there is a long standing bug report in the LaTeX BTS about this). Possible solutions are using babel via \usepackage[german]{babel} insead of german.sty or switching the order of loading german.sty and mathdesign.sty. cheerio ralf

Bug#428783: linux-latest-2.6: Use new Breaks field to avoid installing new kernel image if old packaged modules are installed

Auto-built packages are already centralized in linux-modules-* No, they aren't. Some of them are, but there's nothing prohibiting other maintainers from uploading their own kernel module packages. Today there are two pgpool packages - pgpool and pgpool2. So system_db.sql of pgpool should not be placed in a directory called pgpool. The actual path is: /usr/share/pgpool/system_db.sql The path should be: /usr/share/pgpool2/system_db.sql The 2 is just a version number, not part of the name of the software. If this is correct then the software package should be upgraded but if there are two different packages pgpool2 and pgpool then there must be two different configs. So there are two options: 1. Two packages exist (pgpool and pgpool2) and so there should be two different configurations (like for apache 1 and 2). 2. Only one package exists and the version numbers are only changed (pgpool-1.3.3.0 and pgpool-2.1.2). Consistency means one config/path per package. I would prefer solution one because pgpool-II is a new software not only an upgrade. BTW postgresql packages solve this problem with dynamic links. Bug#428968: openssh-server: password based authentication not working following upgrade
Package: openssh-server Version: 1:4.6p1-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable After upgrading to 1:4.6p1-1 from 1:4.3p2-11, I can no longer login to my machine using password-based authentication. I've compared the new versions of /etc/ssh/sshd_config and /etc/pam.d/ssh to the versions prior to the upgrade, but they're completely identical. Private key authentication still appears to work.
