Bug#429445: microcode.ctl: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-06-18 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: microcode.ctl
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Wednesday, May 30, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for microcode.ctl.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading microcode.ctl with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Thursday, June 21, 2007, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
Tuesday, July 03, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

On Wednesday, July 04, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final
patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Now, we have the sarge = etch upgrade, and I still, and again, have

Bug#399183: xserver-xorg: incorrectly calculates TrueType fontmetrics

Any TTF font metrics are incorrect if the font in iso10646-1 encoding.

 xfd -fn '-dejavu-dejavu sans-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso10646-1'

gives the same result (all characters have the same height and depth).

(Monotype arial is fetched when installing msttcorefonts from contrib branch).

Thanks for that, I'm looking at dejavu now using xfontsel as well as xfd
and gfontview.

I'm not a font expert. Please excuse me, but I can't actually see any
problem. I understand you mean with the ascents, that the umlauts,
circumflexes, acutes, etc are all coming up to the same height, where
they should be different. And with the descents, the tails of y's, g's,
the cedillas, etc are dropping down to the same depth.

As far as I can see, all this is happening fine. The circumflex in ê
comes up higher than the umlaut in ë (by one pixel). The o in å is
higher still.

I measure the tail of y at 1mm, while the cedilla of ç only comes down
about 0.8mm.

Moreover I can't see any difference between iso8859-1 and iso10646-1.
In both cases the ascents and descents vary between letters.

I double checked they were indeed different between characters using
xmag.

Can you explain in more detail precisely how you're perceiving the
problem? Some screenshots might help.

Could you also tell us which versions you now have installed, including
xserver-xorg
xserver-xorg-core
xbase-clients
libxfont1
ttf-dejavu
and which kernel and architecture you have (uname -srvo), and the
versions of any other packages you think might be relevant to the bug?

Thanks, Drew.

Cost Reduction Technique for Maintenance
INTRODUCTION
At least 30 – 40% of operational costs of a manufacturing organisation is spent
on maintenance activities.
Maintenance cost such as spare parts, tools, consumables and modifications
could be put into good use if the
unnecessary costs were under control. A lot can be done to minimise maintenance
costs if the maintenance
personnel understand the implication of good PQCDS in the overall cost
management in maintenance. This
programme is designed to give maintenance personnel the much-needed techniques
to eliminate
non-value-added activities and work on cost-saving activities.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
• create an in-depth understanding of maintenance activities and its value to
bottom line of an organisation;
• improve the skills and techniques to identify, measure and manage cost to all
maintenance-related activities;
• diagnose the existing performance gap in maintenance work and introduce
performance standards to improve for
  results; and
• learn how to identify the different types of wastage in all
maintenance-related work and implement waste elimination
  measures.

What is not user-friendly? The integration into right-clic menu or the

You can install Brasero for this.

this works great. brasero looks like it works well and integrates
nicely into the thunar context menus.

Without doing anything, or using custom actions?

if brasero were added to the thunar recommends, i would be very

I don't think this will be possible, brasero is a gnome app which brings

preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch-nopo file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s).

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Monday, May 07, 2007. If your package was updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to

the device has to look like /dev/[hs]d[a-z].

However, SmartArray controllers use device-names like /dev/ida/c0d0
(/dev/cciss/c0d0 on Ubuntu) and partition names like /dev/ida/c0d0p1 (or
 /dev/cciss/c0d0p1).

The attached patch fixes this issue.

Thank you. I checked this in svn. However...

P.S.: Note that the patch only fixes installation in the MBR, installing
lilo in a partition would need further fixes.
 [...]
  # If installing to a partition (not MBR), offer to make it active
  # Do not try to make MD device active
 -if (echo ${bootdev} | grep -q '[0-9]$') [ ${raid_boot} = no ]; then
 +if (echo ${bootdev} | grep -v '/c[0-9]d[0-9]$' | grep -q '[0-9]$') \
 + [ ${raid_boot} = no ]; then
  # Installing to a partition, check if it is already marked active
  if ! fdisk -l ${disc_offered_devfs} | grep
 ^/dev[a-z0-9/]\+\(part\|[hs]d[a-z]\)${part} | grep -q '\*'; then
  # partition is not marked active, offer to make it so

This grep -v '/c[0-9]d[0-9]$' does indeed seem to break cciss / ida
partitions. Why did you add it?

Bug#429444: ion3: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-06-18 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: ion3
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Wednesday, May 30, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for ion3.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading ion3 with these changes right now.

Bug#428195: krb5: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates review

feels appropriate even if I have a small preference for single ones

still needing a confirmation for that one

 ditto

Here's the last version of templates I come up with. I'll launch the
call for translations in something like 2 days.

# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english
# team
#
# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask
# for an advice to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
#
# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such

Template: krb5-kdc/debconf
Type: boolean
Default: true
_Description: Create the Kerberos KDC configuration automatically?
The Kerberos Domain Controller (KDC) configuration files, in
 /etc/krb5kdc, may be created automatically.
 .
By default, an example template will be copied into this directory
 with local parameters filled in.
 .
Administrators who already have infrastructure to manage their
Kerberos configuration may wish to disable these automatic
 configuration changes.

Template: krb5-kdc/krb4-mode
Type: select
__Choices: disable, full, nopreauth, none
Default: none
_Description: Kerberos V4 compatibility mode to use:
By default, Kerberos V4 requests are allowed from principals that do
not require preauthentication ('nopreauth'). This allows Kerberos V4
services to exist while requiring most users to use Kerberos V5 clients
to get their initial tickets. These tickets can then be converted to
 Kerberos V4 tickets.
 .
Alternatively, the mode can be set to 'full', allowing Kerberos V4
clients to get initial tickets even when preauthentication would
normally be required; to 'disable', returning protocol version errors
to all Kerberos V4 clients; or to 'none', which tells the KDC to not
respond to Kerberos V4 requests at all.

Template: krb5-kdc/run-krb524
Type: boolean
_Description: Run a Kerberos V5 to Kerberos V4 ticket conversion daemon?
The krb524d daemon converts Kerberos V5 tickets into Kerberos V4
tickets for programs, such as krb524init, that obtain Kerberos V4 tickets
 for compatibility with old applications.
 .
It is recommended to enable that daemon if Kerberos V4 is enabled,
especially when Kerberos V4 compatibility is set to 'nopreauth'.

Template: krb5-kdc/purge_data_too
Type: boolean
Default: false
_Description: Should the data be purged as well as the package files?
By default, purging this package will not delete the KDC database in
/var/lib/krb5kdc/principal since this database cannot be recovered once
 it is deleted.
 .
Choose this option if you wish to delete the KDC database when this package
is purged, deleting all of the user accounts and passwords in the KDC.
# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english
# team
#
# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask
# for an advice to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
#
# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such
# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers.

Template: krb5-admin-server/newrealm
Type: note
_Description: Setting up a Kerberos Realm
This package contains the administrative tools required to run the
 Kerberos master server.
 .
However, installing this package does not automatically set up a
Kerberos realm. This can be done later by running the 'krb5_newrealm'
 command.
 .
Please also read the /usr/share/doc/krb5-kdc/README.KDC file
and the administration guide found in the krb5-doc package.

Template: krb5-admin-server/kadmind
Type: boolean
Default: true
_Description: Run the Kerberos V5 administration daemon (kadmind)?
Kadmind serves requests to add/modify/remove principals in the
 Kerberos database.
 .
It is required by the kpasswd program, used to change passwords.
With standard setups, this daemon should run on the master KDC.

Bug#426232: net-snmp: General update after the debconf review process

2007-06-18 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Wednesday, May 09, 2007, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a
review
action on debconf templates for net-snmp.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and annoucing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/templates with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch-nopo file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s).

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Wednesday, May 09, 2007. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

Bug#429443: mismatch between man and actual git-svn on --prefix

2007-06-18 Thread Rémi Vanicat
Package: git-svn
Version: 1:1.5.2.1-1
Severity: normal

the manual of git-svn tell me that :
   --prefix=prefix
This allows one to specify a prefix which is prepended to the
names of remotes if trunk/branches/tags are specified. The
prefix does not automatically include a trailing slash, so be
sure you include one in the argument if that is what you want.
This is useful if you wish to track multiple projects that
   share a common repository.

but, if one to not put the said trailing slash, one have the following
error:

--prefix='mutagen' must have a trailing slash '/'

Bug#429442: snmpd: init script should explicitly set PATH

2007-06-18 Thread Christian Hofstaedtler
Package: snmpd
Version: 5.2.3-7
Severity: normal

The current init script does not reset the PATH environment variable.
Therefore, it fails to find start-stop-daemon (and therefore fails to
work) from environments where PATH does not include /sbin.
I found this problem when I added /etc/init.d/snmpd restart to the
crontab on this machine (to migitate a memory leak, but this is another
problem).

Proposed solution:

Add the following lines to the init script:
PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin
export PATH

Many other init scripts already do this:
host# grep ^PATH= /etc/init.d/* | wc -l

Thank you!

Hi Khapin,

Khapin [2007-06-18 2:31 +0100]:
latex-ucs now depends on tetex-bin|texlive. Shouldn't it be
enough to make it depend on tetex-bin or _texlive-latex-base_

Indeed, I'll change that soon.

Bug#429439: please build against gfortran instead of g77

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
geant321 currently uses g77 as the fortran compiler. However, g77 is no
 longer
maintained. Instead gfortran is the currently maintained fortran compiler in
gcc. It would be nice if geant321 can be built against gfortran instead of
 g77.

Hi,

Do you use Geant 3.21 at all? If so, you can (in theory, at least) do a
test build of a local copy against gfortran by including gfortran in
the environment variable $DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS. Please let me know whether
the libraries still work properly after doing so, and installing the
resulting .debs. I am worried about possible ABI conflicts caused by
building geant321 against gfortran while the underlying stack of
libraries (down to libblas and liblapack) are still built with g77. It
is also not clear to me whether a soname change will be needed.

N.B, you may first need to edit /usr/bin/cernlib in order to change
-lg2c to -lgfortran on one line of that script.

best regards,

Bug#424791: Let's remove ibwebadmin

2007-06-18 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi all,

I propose to remove ibwebadmin for the following reasons:

* Last maintainer upload Sep 2004;
* Orphaned since Jul 2005 with no interest in taking over;
* New upstream versions available since 2005 with no recorded requests to
  update the package;
* Has a release critical bug (affected by PHP4 removal) with no action
  since a month.

The fact that the package uses yada might also be a reason to some.

I'm not fond of *your* webserver. It's also not completely obvious
that the question stands for configuring Apache2 for being used *with
Mantis* and not a general question about setting Apache up (which
might be confusing if Mantis is installed along with other packages).

I'd go for Configure Apache2 as webserver for Mantis?

A pre-existing Apache2 installation can automatically be configured
to use Mantis by creating links in /etc/apache2/conf.d/. Select
true if you would like Apache2 configured for you. If you select
false, a web server will not be configured during this installation
process and you will have to preform this task yourself.

Don't use select true or select false. Depending on the debconf
interface, the user may be prompted with somethign else.

Choose this option if you would like

If you don't choose this option, no web server will be configured...

Bug#429021: libc6: fputs can lose data in buffer on signal

it's very unclear. But indeed the fact that SA_RESTART is the default

I have studied the source today, and it turned out that the problem
is not signal specific, but how glibc treats any error on writing.
Unfortunately, it loses all data stored in the buffer. Probably,
it does not matter for fatal errors, because you will not able to
write more anyway, but for recoverable errors like EINTR or ENOSPC,
it is not a smart thing to do. Here is a small patch that corrects
this problem:

 }

The patch does not change the behavior of new_do_write in the case
of success, but when an error happens, I do not emptify the output
buffer. In fact, in the case when data were partly written (count0)
and data were from the output buffer (fp-_IO_write_base == data),
I remove written data from the buffer and adjust the write pointer
accordingly.

Warning: I have not tested this patch, but it seems trivial, so
I hope it works.

Also, I should note that though this patch prevents losing buffer
on error, it does not prevent the possibility that fputs can return
an error, while a part of the given string was written, but it is
restriction of the interface. So using fputs with non-restartable
signals is not a good idea anyway, still fwrite can be used in
this way for writing bytes if this bug with losing data in buffer
is fixed.

Thanks,
Dmitry

ok, thanks for reporting (and sorry for the late answer).
By the way, did the e_powersaver module appear recently? Should I also

Dear Youssef,

a user of arabi as part of TeX Live in the Debian/GNU Linux distribution
has reported a problem:

Mazen NEIFER [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

File /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/arabi/arabic.ldf is asking for latex
package named Arabicore.sty while this one is provided as arabicore.sty. This
seems to be caused by the original package sources (which was developed for
 windows latex).

The same problem also exists in the files on CTAN, and probably shows up
on every system which has a case-sensitive filesystem (i.e. also on Mac
OSX).

What do you suggest? Should we rename the file to Arabicore.sty with
capital A, or rather change arabic.ldf (and probably other files) and
replace Arabicore with arabicore?

Thank you in advance, Frank

Bug#292330: use UTF-8 by default

Roger Leigh wrote:
I'm not sure who would want to use C.UTF-8.

d-i contains and uses a C.UTF-8 locale. You can find the source in the
installation-locale source package.

non-Unicode locale with known behaviour on all platforms, the C
locale is useful, particularly when doing serialisation where
localisation would break file formats. If you want Unicode, why would
you not just use the appropriate .UTF-8 locale for your
 language/country?

In the case of d-i, we don't want to include more megabytes of locale
definitions in the installer than we include of translations. ;-)

True. ftp.fi.debian.org was using an older version of the sync script.

We strongly encourage you to use the official example script updated to
use these options:

Please confirm that you switch to that kind of atomic sync script.

The newer atomic version of the script has been running since April

think this bug can be closed.

I didn't see this bug for some time now. After reporting it, I had

current nvidia package doesn't work -- since then, I didn't see this

I'd suggest turning this around. Don't first ask whether to check
passwords. Just check them. If the password is weak, prompt y/n whether
to accept the weak password. The benefits are:

a. It's easier to decide whether a weak password should be accepted once
you've actually entered it. It could even indicate what's wrong with
   the password in its message.
b. This avoids the extra question most of the time, assuming people
   often enter a strong password.
c. This should be reasonably non-annoying for testers, who tend to use
   weak passwords.

Also, it seems to me that it would be much better to use the existing
cracklib stuff for password strength checking rather than
re-implementing that. If it could be made into a small enough udeb..

Upstream changed the Trademark Guidelines to be quite better for us than

Bug#424883: poor image quality compared to upstream's version

2007-06-18 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Harald Dunkel [EMAIL PROTECTED] (17/06/2007):
 Hi Cyril,

Hi Harald,

I would suggest to keep the BTS on CC. Here is the output for
 using -v:

sure, sorry for that, but I had to re-send some mails due to some
MAILER-DAEMONs I received, and bounce them, forgetting the Cc's.

Anyway, about our problem, it looks like the xlib plugin, which is
apparently used by the pango one, isn't built correctly. It sounds like
some breakages in the configure.ac/configure, since after patching them
(needed for the next uploads and new features) and rerunning autoconf
stuff, that's OK.

I'll be closing this bug through the changelog of the next revision.

(BTW, you can use the current .orig.tar.gz and the git repository on
git.debian.org if you want to give a try to the next revision.)

Cheers, and sorry for the inconvenience.

  File /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/arabi/arabic.ldf is asking
for latex package named Arabicore.sty while this one is provided as
arabicore.sty. This seems to be caused by the original package
sources (which was developed for windows latex). This bug prevents
using the texlive-lang-arab to produce documents. Just converting
  Arabicore.sty occurrences to arabicore.sty (4 occurrences) fixes
  the problem.

Are you sure this warrants a severity of serious? One cannot use
[arabic]{babel}, but one can still use the other parts which the
package provides: There are more style files in the arabi
subdirectory, and there's the arabtex package.

Anyway, I'll report that upstream and ask how it will be fixed
(renaming the file or adjusting the filename in arabic.ldf).

 Regards, Frank

Dear Frank,

Thanks for your fast answer.

I'm considering this bug serious because arabi package is one of most
important features of texlive-lang-arab. Working on large projects
could be very difficult with arabtex package. This bug could be
blocking users from using latex writing Arabic articles. However, if
you think this has a less priority, please feel free to change it.

Bug#429450: ifup; ifdown doesn't stop dhclient3

2007-06-18 Thread Joey Hess
Package: ifupdown
Version: 0.6.8
Severity: normal

My laptop runs ifup wlan0 in the background on resume, and ifdown wlan0 on
hibernate. I was suprised to see that the ifdown doesn't always actually stop
the dhclient3 process started by the ifup. This can easily be reproduced by
turning off wireless at the hardware level, and running ifup in one terminal
and ifdown on a second. You'll see the ifup start dhclient3 which futiley
try to get a lease. Then when ifdown runs, it calls dhclient3 -r, but this
doesn't stop the dhclient3, as it has not obtained a lease yet. If you
ifup and ifdown several times in this situation, several dhclient3 and ifup
processes will end up running at the same time.

No, it depends on Apache 1.3 and without some non-trivial amount of
coding, won't be easily ported to Apache 2.0, so you can go ahead and
remove it.

Bug#257873: check source package and versions

2007-06-18 Thread Junichi Uekawa
Hi,

Due to the fact that package versioning is done through source package
versions and names, it is now much more important to checking packages
through their source packages, rather than binary package.

This bug needs some attention.

I can get the source-package name through 'apt-cache showsrc'. How
can I get the source-package version correcponding to a binary
package version? It sounds impossible.

Bug#404482: Patch to remove the ugly cursor hack

2007-06-18 Thread Attilio Fiandrotti

Hi

As gtk+-directfb 2.10.13 (containing my upstream patched for the wrong
cursor shape issue) entered unstable, the workaround i provided in gtk
frontend is no longer necessary, so here is a patch to get us rid of it.

If no one notices regressions (and this shouldn't happen), i'm going to
commit the patch in trunk.

Bug#426797: vserver-debiantools: don't use 127.0.0.1 for localhost

I guess I dont understand what the problem is.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

I mean the second guest would like to see its guest to 127.0.0.1...

You can set multiple guests so that they all have 127.0.0.1

I think that the problem is that from guest if you ping 127.0.0.1 you
won't ping the guest itself. Usually you need to ping the IP of the guest.
Is there a way to do that ?

Everything related to 127.0.0.1 works fine, *except* for ICMP, so what you are
seeing is the normal behavior associated with vservers.

nmbd is not always necessary; for instance in a non-Windows environment
with working name resolution. It would be nice if the samba init script
supported only starting the smbd daemon.

If you have a non-Windows environment, use a better protocol. :)

I consider this a wontfix.

Sorry about the delay in responding. Was travelling to DebConf. :)

Hmmm, then we could finish all this here, indeed..:-)

Anyway, we seem to have converged and here are the really really
really final versions.

I just send the call for translation updates. As usual, I'll gather
the updates as long as they arrive in the BTS and I'll send a full
summary at the end of the translation update window I give to
translators (about 2 weeks).

Template: krb5-admin-server/newrealm
Type: note
_Description: Setting up a Kerberos Realm
This package contains the administrative tools required to run the
 Kerberos master server.
 .
However, installing this package does not automatically set up a
Kerberos realm. This can be done later by running the krb5_newrealm
 command.
 .
Please also read the /usr/share/doc/krb5-kdc/README.KDC file
and the administration guide found in the krb5-doc package.

Template: krb5-admin-server/kadmind

Type: select
__Choices: disable, full, nopreauth, none
Default: none
_Description: Kerberos V4 compatibility mode to use:
By default, Kerberos V4 requests are allowed from principals that do
not require preauthentication (nopreauth). This allows Kerberos V4
services to exist while requiring most users to use Kerberos V5 clients
to get their initial tickets. These tickets can then be converted to
 Kerberos V4 tickets.
 .
Alternatively, the mode can be set to full, allowing Kerberos V4
clients to get initial tickets even when preauthentication would
normally be required; to disable, returning protocol version errors
to all Kerberos V4 clients; or to none, which tells the KDC to not
respond to Kerberos V4 requests at all.

Template: krb5-kdc/run-krb524
Type: boolean
_Description: Run a Kerberos V5 to Kerberos V4 ticket conversion daemon?
The krb524d daemon converts Kerberos V5 tickets into Kerberos V4
tickets for programs, such as krb524init, that obtain Kerberos V4 tickets
 for compatibility with old applications.
 .
It is recommended to enable that daemon if Kerberos V4 is enabled,
especially when Kerberos V4 compatibility is set to nopreauth.

If I start clustalx, I get a segmentation fault immediately after starting the

I have just run another quick test which shows that also the programm 'sequin'
from
package 'ncbi-tools-x11' terminates with 'Segmentation fault' when
'lesstif2=1:0.95.0-2'
is installed. 'clustalx' and 'sequin' both depend on 'libvibrant6a' and
on 'lesstif2'.

2007-06-18 Thread Justin B Rye
Christian Perrier wrote:
_Description: Configure Apache2 as your web server?

I'm not fond of *your* webserver. It's also not completely obvious
that the question stands for configuring Apache2 for being used *with
Mantis* and not a general question about setting Apache up (which
might be confusing if Mantis is installed along with other packages).

I'd go for Configure Apache2 as webserver for Mantis?

This raises the issue of whether we're standardising on webserver,
web-server or web server. I've been following Apache2's short
description, which treats it as two words.

Here's the version I was considering:

_Description: Configure Apache2 as web server for $WEBAPP?
If you accept this option Apache2 will automatically be configured to
support $WEBAPP via /etc/apache2/conf.d/ symlinks. If you reject it,
you will have to configure your web server manually.

I didn't ask you to install that!

Yes, that would be confusing, too. The standard resolver output you
posted in an other mail would be clearer.

And in my case, it would have been good to indicate that, as a side
effect of holding back A, B and C, also the 70 other packages which were

their current version: (none).

Something like

Bug#429462: gunzip does not uncompress anymore, breaks dpkg-source

2007-06-18 Thread Joey Schulze
Package: gzip
Version: 1.3.12-2
Severity: grave

I'm sorry to report but the new version of gzip breaks dpkg-source in
sid and thus cannot be used for package building anymore.

dpkg-source -b package-version gives:

dpkg-source: failure: tar -xkf - gave error exit status 2
tar: Archive is compressed. Use -z option
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

The reason is that gunzip does not uncompress a stream anymore.

This is with 1.3.12-2:

finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z gunzip ../manpages_2.52.orig.tar.gz |
cat - out
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z file out
out: gzip compressed data, from Unix, last modified: Sun Jun 17 16:21:30 2007
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z cat ../manpages_2.52.orig.tar.gz |
gunzip out
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z file out
out: gzip compressed data, from Unix, last modified: Mon Jun 18 11:21:15 2007

This is with the older version 1.3.9-2:

finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z gunzip ../manpages_2.52.orig.tar.gz
out.tar
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z file out.tar
out.tar: POSIX tar archive (GNU)
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z cat ../manpages_2.52.orig.tar.gz |
gunzip out.tar
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z file out.tar
out.tar: POSIX tar archive (GNU)

Please pass this upstream and restore the old behaviour.

(And as a workaround, changing the inner working of dpkg-source may
be adequate as well.)

Regards,

Joey

In any case, marking as fixed in 2.2.1-1

Bug#341839: Call for vote: coreutils: md5sum output format

 - - -=-=-=-=-=- Don't Delete Anything Between These Lines =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

We have a de facto standard behavior today that is shared among coreutils
upstream, coreutils in Debian, and other analogous tools such as sha1sum,
sha256sum, and sha512sum. While the TC has the authority to change the
behavior of these tools within Debian, we do not have the authority to get
them changed upstream, and the coreutils maintainer does not agree that this
is a correct technical solution; so at best, overriding the maintainer in
this case would result in inconsistent behavior between Debian and upstream.

The benefits of this change are not so great that divergence from upstream
is warranted.

However, I don't believe any further discussion is likely to be of benefit
either, so I have ranked further discussion last.

Hi all,

Hi Thijs

I propose to remove ibwebadmin for the following reasons:

* Last maintainer upload Sep 2004;
* Orphaned since Jul 2005 with no interest in taking over;
* New upstream versions available since 2005 with no recorded requests to
  update the package;
* Has a release critical bug (affected by PHP4 removal) with no action
  since a month.

The fact that the package uses yada might also be a reason to some.

To support the removal request: the package is according to popcon only
installed by 21 people and not used by anyone :-)

Cheers

I can confirm that this is okay with xorg in etch (just tested a fresh

I think to fix this is enough with add eu to synaptic/configure ALL_LINGUAS.

Unfortunately, I have no machine with 1.4.4 available at the moment, but
I tested with 1.4.3-3 and fvwm and it behaves as described - pressing

pops up within the mouse position :)).
Ok I'll talk to upstream and try to find out if it's QT/WM issue.

Thanks for testing.

This allows one to specify a prefix which is prepended to the

sure you include one in the argument if that is what you want.
This is useful if you wish to track multiple projects that
share a common repository.

but, if one to not put the said trailing slash, one have the following
 error:

$ git svn init -Ttrunk/mutagen -treleases -bbranches
 http://svn.sacredchao.net/svn/quodlibet/ --prefix mutagen
Initialized empty Git repository in .git/
 --prefix='mutagen' must have a trailing slash '/'

(and, yes, I do want that there is no trailing slash...)

Hi, i can confirm this. But I'm not sure what config actually should be
created when setting a prefix.

Without prefix you get (remotes/)
 trunk
 branch0
 branch1
 tags/tag0
 tags/tag1

What do you expect with prefix=mutagen (without trailing slash)? E.g.
 mutagentrunk
 mutagenbranches/branch0
 mtuagenbranches/branch1
 mutagentags/tag0
or
 mutagentrunk
 mutagen/branch0
 mutagen/branch1
 mutagentags/tag0
