This bug has been fixed long ago (don't know when exactly, but 2.2.3-4
is definitely fixed)

How about The o+rx on the directory isn't necessary and should thus be
dropped.?

Interesting, that looks a lot like the backtrace I get for #430050...
but that one is a real pain to catch, since it just happens for an instant.
Would it be possible for you to upload the contents of /etc/apt and
/var/lib/apt to the same location as the other files?

Uploaded at http://fushizen.net/dpkg-state-2.tbz2 (this includes new
snapshots of the other dirs) - but note that this segfault has
mysteriously stopped. Here's a outline of the situation:
* Took dpkg-state.tbz2
* apt-get build-dep aptitude
* Took the coredump from the (still-crashing) debug build of aptitude
* ???
* Tried aptitude again, didn't crash
* Took dpkg-state-2.tbz2

Not entirely sure what changed in-between. Anyway, maybe you can find
a difference in the state tarball above.

Also, I've uploaded the actual debug binary (or will, in about 60
seconds) at http://fushizen.net/aptitude.bz2 - as it just now occurred
to me that perhaps a core without the symbols won't be particularly
useful :)

Bug#243262: Debian update on old bugs

2007-06-22 Thread Leo Antunes
Hi,

You're receiving this because you've opened a bug for Gnokii a long
while back which hasn't got the attention it deserved during all this
time.

I've adopted the Debian packaging duties for Gnokii and I'm checking up
on old bugs to ascertain whether they're still valid or have been solved
in the meantime and left without update.

If you still have the problems, please let me know by replying to the
bug logs. If you don't have the problem, don't know or care anymore, let
it be and I'll close the bug reports in a few weeks.

Cheers, thanks for the help and apologies for the long hiatus and abrupt
contact!

Bug#430074: ldm does not display many locales

If the server har very many locales installed, LDM only displays a

This is because /usr/lib/ltsp/greeters/gtk limits the response from

value.

In X, run 'aatv'. Press 'b' the screen stops, but shows no number.
Only when the window is resized** does the frequency appear in the
upper left corner. Type a new frequency, it's not displayed during or
after being typed, unless between each keystroke, the window is resized.

(**Anything that redraws the window works, such as
minimizing/maximizing, or switching between programs or desktops.)

I turned off 'gpm' to see if that made any difference:

# as root
% /etc/init.d/gpm stop
Stopping mouse interface server: gpm.

...it didn't.

Note: in console mode the 'b' key works correctly, as described in the

Bug#430078: evolution: Web calendars broken for timezone

2007-06-22 Thread Anton Ivanov
Package: evolution
Version: 2.6.3-6
Severity: normal

Evolution correctly exports meetings in a different timezone to
webcalendar, but when imorted back the meeting moves to current
timezone. As a result meetings that are +7 from your timezone end up
offset by 7 hours on reimport.

Suggestion - while the current export is correct, based on experience
with other groupware suites exporting while preserving timezone is a
recepy for disaster. The times on export should be recomputed to UTC and
exported as such. That way it is guaranteed to work.

Hi,

I never managed to solve this, and I've moved on to another computer

After doing a dist-upgrade on my AMD64/Lenny system yesterday, I
have been unable to use schroot to launch my applications. I can
still chroot to my 32bit environment and launch them from the
 command line however.

It looks like the behaviour you reported is a result of libstdc++6
migrating to testing. It's not locales or libc6, AFAICT.

If you are running a true Lenny/testing system, there has not been a
change in the version in this distribution since the 27th of January.
 What is the output of

   schroot --version

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ schroot --version
 E: locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid

That's what I needed to know. This has already been reported as
#429882, #429997, #429947.  I'm reassigning to the libstdc++ package
which appears to be the root cause of the problem (the alternative is
libc6/locales).

Roger

Hi,
I find very confusing the name of files in the diff window (when
pressing the diff button in the graphical environment unison-gtk).
What is the first file and what is the second? diff -u .../intro.tex
and .../intro.tex#unisondiff- say nothing about that.
I checked this and the 1st file is the local file, the 2nd is the
remote file. I would prefer the 1st one be the remote file and the
2nd one my own file, because the remote file is the old version,
isn't it?
So I propose:
- to put as 1st file the remote file
- to name the remote file something like this: .../intro.tex#remotefile
Thank you for taking into account this bug.

Well, i am not sure that the remote file is always the old file, and
i think that putting it 1st or 2nd doesn't really improve anything.
Concerning the naming convention, i think that the first filename
(.../intro.tex) should point to the fact that this is a local file...

Hi,

I agree with the order, because there are different uses of the program
(old sometimes is local, sometimes is distant).

However, the names are not explicit.

Aa program must be as clear as possible. Without reading the
documentation, do you agree to lose 100€ if ../intro.tex is not the
local one and ../intro.tex#unisondiff- is not the distant one?

Well in fact the program don't choose for you what to loose! And you
agree to loose 100€ by not reading the documentation and choosing the
way you want to propagate things.

I think that Remote file for ex. is a much better name. For example,
changing the window title to diff -u localFile remoteFile would be
clearer. The first two lines of the diff window provide the name of the
two files.

What does unisondiff- say? Nothing! On the contrary, remoteFile is
explicit.

If you still think I am wrong, you can close the bug...

I am just telling you that i sort of agree on the fact that
#unisondiff is not explicit but i just point that the name of the
other file is anyway local. I.e. at least there is an explicit
difference between local and remote (remote name is dumb but local name
is explicit and look like a normal filename without ending #anything)

To sum up, i am not sure changing this behavior will really improve
usability.

Bug#309460: Slowness is Debian Specific!!

2007-06-22 Thread Paul

Hi,

I've just found this email thread in a mailing list:

http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb/2007-01/msg00029.html
http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb/2007-01/msg00058.html

Basically, the slow stepping into C++ is worked around via setting
LD_BIND_NOW=1 in the environment. Or you can install libc6-dbg and
then I think you have to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/debug or
whatever.

This is a debian-specific problem because Debian strips the ld.so, at
least I think thats the root of the problem. Plus of course GDB isn't
handling the situation correctly.

I've been fighting these problems for ages, the slowness would often
cause gdb to pause for minutes at a time. I can't even ctrl-c or
ctrl-z gdb, i have to kill it from another terminal.

I'm pretty angry that this problem has been known about for a long
time, and a solution has been known since at least Jan 07 (Daniel
Jacobowitz replied to the mailing list email) but I haven't been able
to find any mention of this problem, or its solution, in either the
bugs DB here, or in the man page.

It would've saved me a *lot* of pain and frustration if you had put a
big fat note in the gdb man page. Or in
/usr/share/doc/gdb/Readme.Debian.

I hope you take steps to ensure other frustrated debian GDB users know
about this workaround.I'm not sure if the 'unstable' version has
been fixed, but since testing hasn't got any notes I assume 'stable'
is still a lame duck.

thanks
Frustrated and Angry Paul

apache 1.3) is obsolete now.

In fact, it had already been removed over a week before you filed this bug.

I can't reproduce this. Can you please send us some of your Vim
settings? At the very minimum if you have some latexsuite-specific
settings please send them to us, otherwise a copy of your .vimrc (or
generally of your ~/.vim) would help. Also if you know you changes
something in /etc/vim/vimrc please send that as well.

Is the bug reproducible invoking vim with -u NONE -U NONE ?
Probably to test that you should manually source
/usr/share/vim/addons/ftplugin/latex-suite/main.vim ...

Thanks for your report!

/var/log/auth.log on the server to see if there's anything logged there,
and if not file this separately?

After I put 'PasswordAuthentication no' back into sshd config file,
things look better... (though I do not understand how PAM can work
without PasswordAuthentication, as server definitely needs my cleartext
password to be able to send it to PAM...)

Look up ChallengeResponseAuthentication.

refers to /etc/exim.

In KDE I don't have this problem and if I use the driver vesa i don't

Bug#430064: Re : New relaxed request usage breaks networking

2007-06-22 Thread callytic
Yes same here,

I have no network access anymore even if I can do DNS request, but everytime I'm
trying to connect to something (http, ftp, pop, imap, ssh...) I got connect:
Network is unreachable.

Thanks to Kel I reverted back /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf to its previous state and
now it's back.

Thanks Kel for the fix

Hope you can find a fix Andrew

Bug#428014: [tex-live] Inclusion of large eps files with dvipdfm

On Fri, 22 Jun 2007, Frank Küster wrote:

dvipdfmx works substantially different and much better than dvipdfm. One
should try to check if all these problems persist in dvipdfmx, and if
not suggest to use this instead of ancient dvipdfm. If gs works in
standard eps/crop mode it should be just right.

The problem with the setting we had previously in teTeX and TeXLive,
-sPAPERSIZE=a0, lead to the problem described at
 http://groups.google.com/group/comp.text.tex/msg/3aeeb27907a7dbef

namely that an image which was very large (multiples of a0) wasn't
included properly. Back then, we decided to use a suggestion which
Heiko Oberdiek made, namely -dEPSCrop. However, this introduced a new
 problem, described in
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=428014:

 | document, but is shifted. In other cases, it doesn't appear at all.
 | Such figures are produced by lots of software, e.g. gnuplot.
 `

this is a definitive bug in dvipdfm, solved in dvipdfmx.

There must be a better solution?

Er, there is nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx exactly for your problem... And it has
the right nvidia_drv.so to work with the latest xorg.

Bug#430086: ITP: libscope-guard-perl -- lexically scoped resource management

2007-06-22 Thread Krzysztof Krzyzaniak (eloy)
Package: wnpp

* Package name: libscope-guard-perl
  Version : 0.03
Upstream Author : chocolateboy, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.cpan.org/
* License : Perl: Artistic/GPL
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : lexically scoped resource management

Scope::Guear provides a convenient way to perform cleanup or other forms of
resource management at the end of a scope. It is particularly useful when
 dealing with exceptions.
The Scope::Guard constructor takes a reference to a subroutine that is
guaranteed to be called even if the thread of execution is aborted
prematurely.
This effectively allows lexically-scoped promises to be made that are
automatically honoured by perl's garbage collector.

Bug#428014: Inclusion of large eps files with dvipdfm

2007-06-22 Thread Frank Küster
Dear all,

I would like to hear your opinions about the Ghostscript options that
should be used in dvipdfm(x)'s config file for inclusion of eps files.

The problem with the setting we had previously in teTeX and TeXLive,
-sPAPERSIZE=a0, lead to the problem described at
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.text.tex/msg/3aeeb27907a7dbef

namely that an image which was very large (multiples of a0) wasn't
included properly. Back then, we decided to use a suggestion which
Heiko Oberdiek made, namely -dEPSCrop. However, this introduced a new
problem, described in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=428014:

,
| dvipdfm doesn't correctly handle an eps figure whose lower-left corner
| is not at (0,0). In some cases, the resulting figure appears in the
| document, but is shifted. In other cases, it doesn't appear at all.
| Such figures are produced by lots of software, e.g. gnuplot.
`

The submitter of that bug suggested to go back to specifying the
papersize, but this time not as a0, but in absolute (large) numbers:

I tested Dan's suggestion: replacing -dEPSCrop in the config file with

-dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=50 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=50

  solves the problem for me.

I'm not sure whether we need even more 0s, or whether this would again
cause problems elsewhere (and be it only performance).

What do you think?

TIA, Frank

P.S. to Jim:

This is a configuration file; maybe the right fix is to just document
this (in the file and in some README) and leave the choice to the
 user.

It isn't marked as a conffile in the package, and it's not in /etc,
so it will need a bit more than just documentation.

That's solved in sid, where it is a configuration file. In etch, you
can just copy the file to /etc/texmf/dvipdfm/config and edit there, it
will be used (maybe texhash is needed, I'm not sure).

Yes. Most probably because it was built with etchs gcj (of course) and

I have no *gcj* or *gij* packages installed on my system. Can the
compilation in an etch environment be a matter anyhow?

Yes, unfortunately.

Do you think OpenOffice is running better with GCJ/GIJ than with sun-java5* ?

Maybe, maybe not. The reports are known to be broken with any
JDK when built with old gcjs. At least it works in sid now for
whatever reason.

I'll most probably switch to OpenJDK when possible.

I do not see any connetion to this issue here. If you want to complain

Generally, exim ACLs do have the log and message modifier to control
what's being logged and what's being returned to the other side of the
SMTP session, and in the absence of more clear instructions, exim is
intentionally vague to avoid disclosure of local filtering policy to a
malicious mail sender who might want to find out about the filtering
policy to circumvent it.

Bug#430100: current release not working with new dhcp3 packages

2007-06-22 Thread Mau
Package: resolvconf
Version: 1.37
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I'm still using ifplugd on my laptop (I need to have a wireless network
and a wired network working at the same time and it seems that
network-manager doesn't allow such a scenario) and I noticed that
/etc/resolv.conf doesn't get updated anymore since dhcp3 upgrade from
3.0.4-14 to 3.0.5-1 when plugging a DHCP configured wired network.
An new dhcdbd package has been made available along with the new dhcp3
packages; resolvconf should be probably updated too in order to make it
work with the new dhcp3 version.

Thanks

How curious. texlive-extra-utils is in the Build-Dependencies list.
It has been checked by me in pbuilder, and by Norbert Preining in cowbuilder.

And according to the Debian package website, ctangle is also included in
texlive-extra-utils on the s390 architecture.

Are you sure that texlive-extra-utils is properly installed?

I support the collective opinions of the debian-installer team and maintainer
of our compiler packaging. Further discussion would be required to convince
me that we should overrule developer(s) on this issue.

In general, it seems to me that there should be a burden of proof on the
bug submitter in cases like this that are fundamentally a request for a new
feature addition. Such proof might include implementing the requested change
by creating a suitably patched version of the package in question, and then
showing us the cool stuff their proposed change enables through a suitable
demo program.

 Hi, Stefano.
You have fixed one problem. Second still exists:

Thanks for noticing, I've forgot about the second one (actually two bug
reports would have been better, since the issuers were different ... but
anyhoe).

 Error detected while processing
 /usr/share/vim-scripts/plugin/vcscommand.vim:
 line 1116:
E227: mapping already exists for \ca

This is not a bug that can be fixed. It is indeed an incompatibility
between the vcscommand and the nerd-commenter addons (in my case, it
can be an incompatibility with something else in your case).

Indeed if I remove the nerd-commenter addon (you can do that with
vim-addons remove nerd-commenter if you are already using vim-addons)
the problem vanishes. The reason is that both nerd-commenter and
vcscommand are defining the \ca mapping. This isn't really something I
can solve, it's a matter of agreement between plugin authors as it does
not exist a global namespace of mappings.

Feel free to contact the authors of the two addons and try to reach an
agreement among them. I don't have any better suggestion.

Cheers.

Bug#430105: default g:git_diff_spawn_mode

2007-06-22 Thread martin f krafft
Package: vim-scripts
Version: 7.1.1
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/share/vim-scripts/ftplugin/git.vim
Tags: patch

Thanks for including git.vim. Unless one specifies
g:git_diff_spawn_mode in the user configuration file, the plugin
causes an error message about an undefined variable on vim startup
during a git commit.

I thus suggest to apply the following patch, which simply assumes
a default value.

Thanks,

How curious. texlive-extra-utils is in the Build-Dependencies list.

No, it is not:
| Build-Depends: debhelper (= 5), dpatch (= 2.0.14)
| Build-Depends-Indep: libkpathsea-dev, texlive-base-bin, texlive-extra-utils,
texlive-font-utils, sharutils, perl-base (= 5.8.0)

Build-Depends-Indep is not fullfiled by the autobuilders.
