Would it be possible for you to upload the contents of /etc/apt and /var/lib/apt to the same location as the other files? Uploaded at http://fushizen.net/dpkg-state-2.tbz2 (this includes new snapshots of the other dirs) - but note that this segfault has mysteriously stopped. Here's a outline of the situation: * Took dpkg-state.tbz2 * apt-get build-dep aptitude * Took the coredump from the (still-crashing) debug build of aptitude * ??? * Tried aptitude again, didn't crash * Took dpkg-state-2.tbz2 Not entirely sure what changed in-between. Anyway, maybe you can find a difference in the state tarball above. Also, I've uploaded the actual debug binary (or will, in about 60 seconds) at http://fushizen.net/aptitude.bz2 - as it just now occurred to me that perhaps a core without the symbols won't be particularly useful :) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. If you still have the problems, please let me know by replying to the bug logs. If you don't have the problem, don't know or care anymore, let it be and I'll close the bug reports in a few weeks. Bug#428840: unison-gtk: Confusing diff file1 and file2

What is the first file and what is the second? diff -u .../intro.tex and .../intro.tex#unisondiff- say nothing about that. I checked this and the 1st file is the local file, the 2nd is the remote file. I would prefer the 1st one be the remote file and the 2nd one my own file, because the remote file is the old version, isn't it? So I propose: - to put as 1st file the remote file - to name the remote file something like this: .../intro.tex#remotefile Thank you for taking into account this bug. Well, i am not sure that the remote file is always the old file, and i think that putting it 1st or 2nd doesn't really improve anything. Concerning the naming convention, i think that the first filename (.../intro.tex) should point to the fact that this is a local file... Hi, I agree with the order, because there are different uses of the program (old sometimes is local, sometimes is distant). However, the names are not explicit. Aa program must be as clear as possible. Without reading the documentation, do you agree to lose 100€ if ../intro.tex is not the local one and ../intro.tex#unisondiff- is not the distant one? Well in fact the program don't choose for you what to loose! And you agree to loose 100€ by not reading the documentation and choosing the way you want to propagate things. I think that Remote file for ex. is a much better name. For example, changing the window title to diff -u localFile remoteFile would be clearer. The first two lines of the diff window provide the name of the two files. What does unisondiff- say? Nothing! On the contrary, remoteFile is explicit. If you still think I am wrong, you can close the bug... I am just telling you that i sort of agree on the fact that #unisondiff is not explicit but i just point that the name of the other file is anyway local. I.e. at least there is an explicit difference between local and remote (remote name is dumb but local name is explicit and look like a normal filename without ending #anything) To sum up, i am not sure changing this behavior will really improve usability.
Bug#309460: Slowness is Debian Specific!!
Hi, I've just found this email thread in a mailing list: http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb/2007-01/msg00029.html http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb/2007-01/msg00058.html Basically, the slow stepping into C++ is worked around via setting LD_BIND_NOW=1 in the environment. Or you can install libc6-dbg and then I think you have to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/debug or whatever. This is a debian-specific problem because Debian strips the ld.so, at least I think thats the root of the problem. Plus of course GDB isn't handling the situation correctly. I've been fighting these problems for ages, the slowness would often cause gdb to pause for minutes at a time. I can't even ctrl-c or ctrl-z gdb, i have to kill it from another terminal. I'm pretty angry that this problem has been known about for a long time, and a solution has been known since at least Jan 07 (Daniel Jacobowitz replied to the mailing list email) but I haven't been able to find any mention of this problem, or its solution, in either the bugs DB here, or in the man page. It would've saved me a *lot* of pain and frustration if you had put a big fat note in the gdb man page. Or in /usr/share/doc/gdb/Readme.Debian. I hope you take steps to ensure other frustrated debian GDB users know about this workaround.I'm not sure if the 'unstable' version has been fixed, but since testing hasn't got any notes I assume 'stable' is still a lame duck. thanks Frustrated and Angry Paul -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#412506: more info
tags 412506 + moreinfo unreproducible thanks I can't reproduce this. Can you please send us some of your Vim settings? At the very minimum if you have some latexsuite-specific settings please send them to us, otherwise a copy of your .vimrc (or generally of your ~/.vim) would help. Also if you know you changes something in /etc/vim/vimrc please send that as well. Is the bug reproducible invoking vim with -u NONE -U NONE ? Bug#428014: Inclusion of large eps files with dvipdfm
Dear all, I would like to hear your opinions about the Ghostscript options that should be used in dvipdfm(x)'s config file for inclusion of eps files. The problem with the setting we had previously in teTeX and TeXLive, -sPAPERSIZE=a0, lead to the problem described at http://groups.google.com/group/comp.text.tex/msg/3aeeb27907a7dbef namely that an image which was very large (multiples of a0) wasn't included properly. Back then, we decided to use a suggestion which Heiko Oberdiek made, namely -dEPSCrop. However, this introduced a new problem, described in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=428014: , | dvipdfm doesn't correctly handle an eps figure whose lower-left corner | is not at (0,0). In some cases, the resulting figure appears in the | document, but is shifted. In other cases, it doesn't appear at all. | Such figures are produced by lots of software, e.g. gnuplot. ` The submitter of that bug suggested to go back to specifying the papersize, but this time not as a0, but in absolute (large) numbers: I tested Dan's suggestion: replacing -dEPSCrop in the config file with -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=50 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=50 solves the problem for me. I'm not sure whether we need even more 0s, or whether this would again cause problems elsewhere (and be it only performance). What do you think? TIA, Frank P.S. to Jim: This is a configuration file; maybe the right fix is to just document this (in the file and in some README) and leave the choice to the user. It isn't marked as a conffile in the package, and it's not in /etc, so it will need a bit more than just documentation. That's solved in sid, where it is a configuration file. In etch, you can just copy the file to /etc/texmf/dvipdfm/config and edit there, it will be used (maybe texhash is needed, I'm not sure). Bug#343761: Found NullPointerException when starting the report wizard in 2.2.1-1~bpo.1
Hi, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: If I start the report wizard from oobase i get an nearly empty page as described earlier in this bug and the following error messages. Yes. Most probably because it was built with etchs gcj (of course) and the newer gcj in sid fixes loads of stuff. I have no *gcj* or *gij* packages installed on my system. Can the compilation in an etch environment be a matter anyhow? Yes, unfortunately. i386 Do you think OpenOffice is running better with GCJ/GIJ than with sun-java5* ? Maybe, maybe not. The reports are known to be broken with any JDK when built with old gcjs. At least it works in sid now for whatever reason. I'll most probably switch to OpenJDK when possible. Bug#429891: exim_checkaccess vs. banned_domains

I cannot reproduce the issue, but since Mark and you haven't given much information, it might be possible that I am trying to reproduce it the wrong way. Also it seems a shame that exim says User unknown while the real problem is logged only in mainlog. Please just say the more honest Not going to tell you what went wrong, instead of the dishonest User unknown! http://www.exim.org/mail-archives/exim-users/Week-of-Mon-20040927/msg00199.html http://www.exim.org/mail-archives/exim-users/Week-of-Mon-20040927/msg00201.html I do not see any connetion to this issue here. If you want to complain about something unconnected, please open a dedicated bug report to help tracking, otherwise please be more clear in what you consider the issue here. Generally, exim ACLs do have the log and message modifier to control what's being logged and what's being returned to the other side of the SMTP session, and in the absence of more clear instructions, exim is intentionally vague to avoid disclosure of local filtering policy to a malicious mail sender who might want to find out about the filtering policy to circumvent it. In general, it seems to me that there should be a burden of proof on the bug submitter in cases like this that are fundamentally a request for a new feature addition. Such proof might include implementing the requested change by creating a suitably patched version of the package in question, and then showing us the cool stuff their proposed change enables through a suitable demo program. Error detected while processing /usr/share/vim-scripts/plugin/vcscommand.vim: line 1116: E227: mapping already exists for \ca This is not a bug that can be fixed. It is indeed an incompatibility between the vcscommand and the nerd-commenter addons (in my case, it can be an incompatibility with something else in your case). Indeed if I remove the nerd-commenter addon (you can do that with vim-addons remove nerd-commenter if you are already using vim-addons) the problem vanishes. The reason is that both nerd-commenter and vcscommand are defining the \ca mapping. This isn't really something I can solve, it's a matter of agreement between plugin authors as it does not exist a global namespace of mappings. Feel free to contact the authors of the two addons and try to reach an agreement among them. I don't have any better suggestion.
