Bug#454412: RM: pscan -- dead upstream; feature has been integrated to gcc -Wformat-nonliteral

2007-12-05 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Asking for removal of an obsolete package.

The code was last updated 2000. The debian/copyright upstream URL does
not exist[1] any more. After tracking down and contacting the
upstream author about the current sources:

Alan T DeKok [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-12-04
It hasn't been maintained for years. The current gcc includes
-Wformat-nonliteral, which appears to do everything that pscan did.

Bug#454408: version of amd64 differs from i386

2007-12-05 Thread Uwe Kleine-König
Package: git-core
Version: 1:1.5.3.7-1
Severity: minor

Hello,

git version on amd64 reports

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ git version
git version debian.1.5.3.7.1-dirty

for i386 it says:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp/git-core_1.5.3.7-1_i386/usr/bin$ ./git version
./git: /usr/lib32/libz.so.1: no version information available (required
by ./git)
git version 1.5.3.7

I really like to have debian in the version string, but I don't want
-dirty and I wonder what .1 is.

Best regards
Uwe

What architecture are you using? For i386 and amd64 the symbolic link
exists in the package.

Bug#454409: sudo: password prompt should display root when the rootpw option is set

2007-12-05 Thread Patrick Schoenfeld
Tags 454409 +patch
thanks

Hi,

I noticed the same problem and was pretty confused about it. IMHO for
users of Defaults root_pw it is more confusing than before.
Unfortunately there is no such solution as Francois Marier states, at
least not trivial to reach.

The problem is:
The default password prompt is configured using an option to --configure
which basically excepts the same placeholders, which are also accepted
by the -p option to sudo. The used placeholder (%u) always represents
the caller of sudo, which is based on the (wrong) assumption that
requested password is always the password of the caller. But there is
no alternative to %u, because %U just points to the user that is called,
but that - again - wouldn't work for Defaults rootpw.

Recommendation:
I therefore recommend to keep the [sudo] prefixed password prompt to
keep eliminating the confusion caused by sudo-called programs that ask
for passwords themselves, but simply remove the for %u part from the
prompt. Further there should probably be a feature request sent upstream
to implement a proper placeholder that can be used in future versions.
Perhaps someone wants to create an appropriate patch and send it
upstream?

The attached patch updates debian/rules to follow the recommendation.
Feel free to use it.

Best Regards,

Patrick

In fact this system was installed on that day.

Could you please look to /var/log/dpkg.log.* if you see a

I've noticed that you have an ITP for quesoglc that has been open for

packaged for my own use, I was wondering if you would like me to take
 the ITP off your hands?

Honestly I am having a large shortage of time lately. I do have a half
made package, though I wouldn't call it anywhere near to being ready.
So if you have a package ready I am not going to stand in your way to
submit your package. Therefore I'll resign ownership of this bugreport
and let you handle it instead.

The deletion problem will be fixed... I don't understand the

do you need to authenticate usually? If not, does posting work when
already connected to the server?

If you don't have to authenticate normally, the 502 Permission denied
is a server bug. It should not even tell that, but either:

Claws Mail uses the locale's charset to try and parse broken headers.

You can see what charset it uses in Help menu/About:

Locale: en_US (charset: ISO-8859-1)
Operating System: Linux 2.6.15-29-686 (i686)

See what Claws thinks of your default charset...

Yes - that does indeed fix the problem. Presumably this is a bug in EXA

Yes, we have seen multiple reports about rendering problems with EXA on

Bug#454427: Plesae adopt libgtkhtml2.0-cil to use gtkhtml3.14 (patch included)

We would like to remove this old version since gtkhtml3.14 is downwards

Bug#454304: xserver-xorg: X doesn't start anymore after upgrade to Lenny on Toshiba S1800

2007-12-05 Thread Bert Verbeek
Hello,

I also noticed there was a newer xserver-xorg-video-trident package in
unstable.

I updated xserver-xorg (and everything it depends on) via apt-pinning to X
1:7.3+7.

No solution, it locks up the laptop as well.

Is that what you need?

Bug#454422: trac: stop working since python-pysqlite2 upgrade (2.3.5-1 - 2.4.0-1)

2007-12-05 Thread Cyril Humbert
Package: trac
Version: 0.10.4-2
Severity: important

Hello,

[Note: I'm not sure if this bug is for 'trac' or for 'python-pysqlite2'].

I use Trac with the SQLite backend. Since the upgrade from
python-pysqlite2 (2.3.5-1) to python-pysqlite2 (2.4.0-1), Trac stops
working. Most commands fail:

% sudo trac-admin /var/www/trac/myproject wiki list
Command failed: database parameter must be string or APSW Connection
object

% sudo trac-admin /var/www/trac/myproject resync
Resyncing repository history...
Command failed: database parameter must be string or APSW Connection

The error message suggests a problem with the database interface which
is solved by downgrading python-pysqlite2 to the previous version (2.3.5-1).

Bug#454431: debian-policy: Policy for module sources needed

2007-12-05 Thread Michael Meskes
Package: debian-policy
Severity: normal

I think we should have policy for module source packages that specifies
how such a package should look like. There are several ways to build a
kernel module from a source file and some (at least the inclusion in
linux-modules-extra/contrib/non-free) are not easily tryable by the
maintainer of the source package.

The current policy in linux-modules-* is:

A module source package works with l-m-e, or it doesn't.

So I gather it's the source maintainer's job to make sure it compiles
inside the framework. But there is no documentation available about
linux-modules-* at all.

The process might change again in the future which might make the
situation even more complex. Therefore I think there should be some
(sub) policy explaining what to do.

Michael

There's a upstream bug about this already and the patch you will make

features, i.e. the gnomeprint stuff.

Upstream will release a new gtkhtml 3.14 binding with
gnome-desktop-sharp in the next weeks.

2007-12-05 Thread Joost van Baal
retitle 374455 O: webalizer-stonesteps -- Web server log file analysis program
thanks

Hi,

I intend to orphan the webalizer-stonesteps package: I don't have the
time to keep maintaining it (and I don't use it).

See also #452036: webalizer-stonesteps should not enter testing.

Maintenance of the package is relatively easy. Infrastructure has been
set up, using Alioth. Upstream is responsive and cooperative.

Bye,

Joost

Bug#454433: RFA: lasi -- creation of PostScript documents containing Unicode symbols

2007-12-05 Thread Rafael Laboissiere
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the lasi packages (liblasi0 and liblasi-dev). I packaged
this library only because plplot build-depended on it. Now that the psttf
driver of PLplot has been replaced by the cairo driver, I have no intention
of maintaining lasi anymore.

Bug#454375: #454375 and #454158 are different issues, but both fixed (or rather can't be fixed - corner case)

thanks

#454375 and #454158 were initialy the same problem but not after
cli-common was fixed.

[Note for the bugreport processor:
Please do not merge bugreports that are different problems. And re-using
bugreports is bad too, for a new issue, file a new bug report (or clone
it with explanation of the new issue and retitling). Titles such as
something crashes is very bad, as that is a very vague symptom.
Exception/crash messages should be used as title instead.]

I believe the cause of this new crash (after updating cli-common and
reinstalling mono-addins) was caused by a partial upgrade of mono-addins
and restarting tomyboy.

Chain of events:
- upgraded cli-common to = 0.5.1
- reinstalled libmono-addins2.0-cil
- re-started tomboy - crash, mono-addins DB got into a incosistent
state as an exception happened caused by the missing policy file for
mono-addins-gui.
- upgraded libmono-addins-gui2.0-cil, started tomboy - stil crashes
because of corrupted addin DB.

The deletion of ~/.tomboy deleted the addins DB, and it become rebuild
during the next start, but this time with a clean mono-addins install.

I believe this is a corner-case which wouldn't happen in normal upgrade
scenarios, thus I am closing the bug report.

there is a new version of X11, which is required for the next version of
xmonad. It would be great if you could package that.

I just upgraded Evolution from 2.12.0 and most things are not translated
anymore. One exception is the section names in the preferences dialog, but not
the contents of the panels themselves. Another exception is the output of
evolution --help when ran from the console. Practically everything else seems
untranslated. ALso, running Evolution from the same console as above still
gives the same fualty results.

Many thanks for your quick response.

I wonder if you could provide a versioned tarball containing
the script itself the copyright statement (GPL) and a README
(in principle as it is done in the Debian tarball). The
rationale behind this request is that this would enable me
to use a so called wathc file which is Debians way to
observe new upstream versions. It basically relies on an
URL containing a regexp for the version number - if it
increases the maintainer gets a signal for a new upstream
version.

I would be very happy to implement this watch file before my
next upload in case you would be so nice to follow my
suggestion.

The switch to graphicsmagic can be done easily.

Kind regards and thanks again for the quick response

 Andreas.

Bug#454403: openssh: openssh-server-udeb of arm depends zlib1g instead of zlib1g-udeb

On Wed, Dec 05, 2007 at 03:36:54PM +0900, Kenshi Muto wrote:
 Package: openssh

 Hi,

Strangely, openssh-server-udeb of arm architecture depends zlib1g instead
of zlib1g-udeb. This breaks daily arm d-i builder.
Because other architectures seem OK, it may be specific problem of arm
 buildd. 4.6p1-6 looks OK.

AFAIK this bug happened once ago also.

This is due to a zlib bug from five months ago, namely:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=431873

Simply upgrading zlib1g-dev on the buildd to anything other than the
broken version 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-3 will fix it. It doesn't really seem
appropriate for me to bump the build-dependency version just for this; I
don't generally like to use build-dependencies just to document bugs in
single versions of other packages. James, could you upgrade the buildd
and do a binary NMU, perhaps?

Thanks,

The problem is the quoting. That is

'gitweb/test/M\303\244rchen'

is in old instead of

'gitweb/test/M\303\244rchen'

I suspect:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/debsrc/tmpfjgV1S/git-1.5.3.7$ git ls-files | grep
gitweb/test
gitweb/test/M\303\244rchen
gitweb/test/file with spaces
gitweb/test/file+plus+sign

So probably repo.index_files() must be taught either that a filename starting
with is special or to use git ls-files -z

The patch below does the latter, ugly, but it works.

I've not added it to the list of filesystems in (u)mountnfs since:
a) we don't have a GFS2 tools in debian yet
b) gfs2-tools will probably ship with it's own mounting script (Redhat
and Ubuntu do so), but maybe we can skip this and handle it as the other
network filesystms?

Nevertheless we shouldn't try to mount GFS2 fileystems as local, so the
above part should be applied.

 Package: firebird2.0-common

 Severity: important

The problem is with the new package, -2.

I couldn't install this version of firebird2.0-common alongside the same
version of firebird-utils; it appears that there are conflicting files:

firebird-utils is removed and -super and -classic already replace it. It
seems I forgot to mark -common as replacing too.

This will be fixed shortly. Thanks for reporting.

Bug#284090: gnome-session: Hmmm...

These are definitely bugs in these programs, as gnome-session only
records what the programs say about their restart options.

Is there any information about the cause of this bug? Any workarounds?

Hi John,

Could you please install kill gnome-volume-manager, then run it from a
terminal with the command 'gnome-volume-manager -n'? Then plug your USB
device in and see what it prints out.

Bug#454435: evolution: Creates contacts automatically with option disabled

2007-12-05 Thread Javier Kohen
Package: evolution
Version: 2.12.2-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Since I first upgraded to the 2.12.x I noticed that Evolution was creating
contact entries even though the related preference is disabled. It really makes
a mess of my contact list and it used to work with all previous releases I've
used in the last few years, so it would be nice if it worked now as well.

I ended up disabling the plug-in. However, that also disables some information
exchange with the instant messaging client.

Bug#454476: gnome-screensaver: Reacts to notifications

2007-12-05 Thread Javier Kohen
Package: gnome-screensaver
Version: 2.20.0-1.1
Severity: normal

The screensaver comes back from its slumber whenever the notification daemon
displays a notification on the desktop (e.g. incoming e-mail, an audio track
starting to play, an IM contact becoming on-line, etc.). Whenever this happens
the enter password dialog pops up. I'm afraid that this also prevents the
screen from entering energy saving mode as long as the events are fired.

I don't know exactly when this started happening. I think that when GNOME
2.20.1/2 started entering unstable, i.e. about a week or two ago.

Since the upgrade, I've seen a problem with a few email messages

Greetings, and thanks Tim! Does this mean that there is an issue with

inadvisable?

Take care,

Dude, it's not about bad press. It's about following procedures.

Following whos procedures?

Anyway, do me a favour, leave security bugs to the people who do it
 correctly.

Do me a favour and leave security bugs to the people

All of the previous vulns have been much better handled:

Oh wait, you are comparing a low impact bug in a contrib

clue about the impact of security bugs.

We report the ones we find. What in this process makes you think we're
 bothered about bad press?

I know Colin's words were probably not in the best tone, but his request
is fair: nobody likes reading There was no vendor-supplied solution at the
time of entry. in a security tracker when he had no opportunity to solve the
problem.

What else should this tell me? If you are really just pissed of because you had
no opportunity to fix this before it was on security sites: ok, I don't care,
hate me for this, thanks for the discussion.

Anyway, I am not going to answer any mail regarding this issue from now on

with
yours as well.

Cheers

Bug#454469: ITP: lrslib -- enumerate vertices and extreme rays of a convex polyhedron

2007-12-05 Thread David Bremner
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: David Bremner [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: lrslib
  Version : 4.2b
Upstream Author : David Avis [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://cgm.cs.mcgill.ca/~avis/C/lrs.html
* License : GPL 2+
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Enumerate vertices and extreme rays of a convex polyhedron

A convex polyhedron is the set of points satisfying a finite family of linear
inequalities. The study of the vertices and extreme rays of such systems is
important
and useful in e.g. mathematics and optimization. In a dual interpretation,
finding the
vertices of a (bounded) polyhedron is equivalent to finding the convex hull
(bounding
inequalities) of an (arbitrary dimensional) set of points. Lrs (lexicographic
reverse search)
has two important features that can be very important for certain applications:
it works in exact
arithmetic, and it consumes memory proportional to the input, no matter how
large the
output is.

Hi Frank, hi all

the new luatex 0.20.0 ships os.tmpdir, but unfortunately a crippled

Next upload of luatex will have both patches (save that Taco or you come

at first: many thanks for maintaining the fglrx-package!

Thanks!

But please try to read some documentation and check wether your bug doesn't
exist before submiting a new one.

ATI has dropped (temporarily I hope) support for your card, and a bug was
already opened for that..

After the update and w/o changing xorg.conf X doesn't start any more. Both
the vesa and the Xorg-ATI-driver aren't an option for me because they
 aren't working as well :-(

Try radeonhd from experimental.

Bug#448861: email addresses are case sensitive

2007-12-05 Thread Uwe Kleine-König
Package: bugs.debian.org
Followup-For: Bug #448861

Either pkgreport should use a case insensitive compare or bugreport
should lowercase the argument itself (less ideal).
IIRC the user part of an email address is (theoretically) case sensitive
so in my eyes the best solution is not to make the addresses of
reporters all lowercase.

I think in practise the case of email addresses doesn't matter much, so
using a case insensitive compare in pkgreport.cgi might be appropriate,
too.

Yes, now it's the only package with a differing version number.
Previously also aqbanking-tool were newer than the libraries (it had

Having a newer libaqbanking-data will not cause a segfault, so you

Unless this is for some weird nonstandard bourne implementation, the
argument not *DIR: to the colon (:) builtin on line 31 is ignored,

For the record, : foo is a not entirely uncommon alternative way to
write comments in Bourne shell; it's also the only way to squeeze a
comment and a trailing ;; onto a single line.

I've never heard of somebody's path including an empty string; this only
triggers on a path like PATH=/usr/local/bin:'':/usr/bin. I think
this is another misunderstanding of Bourne shell tokenization. The only
other application I can see for this would be if Bourne interpreted a
PATH=/usr/local/bin::/usr/bin as having the tokens '/usr/local/bin'
and '' and '/usr/bin' (which it does not), in which case there would be
 an empty token,

I think real-life tests generally trump everything else. :-) In Debian's
default shell, bash:

  $ PATH=/usr/local/bin::/usr/bin
  $ IFS=:
$ for ELEMENT in $PATH; do echo '$ELEMENT'; done
  '/usr/local/bin'
  ''
  '/usr/bin'

but why should that be interpreted as the current directory?

As Clint notes, empty strings do represent the current working
directory. Chapter and verse can be found in
http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/basedefs/xbd_chap08.html:

This variable shall represent the sequence of path prefixes that
certain functions and utilities apply in searching for an executable
file known only by a filename. The prefixes shall be separated by a
colon (':'). When a non-zero-length prefix is applied to this
filename, a slash shall be inserted between the prefix and the
filename. A zero-length prefix is a legacy feature that indicates the
current working directory. It appears as two adjacent colons (::),
as an initial colon preceding the rest of the list, or as a trailing
colon following the rest of the list. A strictly conforming
application shall use an actual pathname (such as .) to represent the
current working directory in PATH. The list shall be searched from
beginning to end, applying the filename to each prefix, until an
executable file with the specified name and appropriate execution
permissions is found. If the pathname being sought contains a slash,
the search through the path prefixes shall not be performed. If the
pathname begins with a slash, the specified path is resolved (see
Pathname Resolution). If PATH is unset or is set to null, the path
  search is implementation-defined.

In the event there IS an empty string in handed to the loop on line 46,
nothing will happen unless the argument ($PROGRAM) happens to exist as
a file in / with executable permissions (assuming you remove lines
47-49, otherwise it searches the current directory).

I believe that Clint is incorrect that this was the intent; it certainly
wasn't my intent, as that does not correspond to the shell's command
search semantics. It's just an unremarkable accident of the obvious
implementation. ELEMENT is not supposed to be empty in that case branch.

In your later mail, you wrote:
Line 31 is still messy and counter-intuitive. How about this instead:
 case $PATH in
   *[^:]:) PATH=$PATH: ;;
 esac

That isn't valid POSIX shell, per
http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/utilities/xcu_chap02.html#tag_02_13:

The description of basic regular expression bracket expressions in the
Base Definitions volume of IEEE Std 1003.1-2001, Section 9.3.5, RE
Bracket Expression shall also apply to the pattern bracket expression,
except that the exclamation mark character ('!') shall replace the
circumflex character ('^') in its role in a non-matching list in the
regular expression notation. A bracket expression starting with an
unquoted circumflex character produces unspecified results.

So you need *[!:]: there.

This mistake results in a regression. Using bash (it's possibly worth
noting that dash doesn't implement a trailing colon in PATH correctly):

  $ touch foo
  $ chmod +x foo
  $ type foo
  -bash: type: foo: not found
  $ which foo
  $ PATH=/usr/bin:/bin: type foo
  foo is ./foo
  $ PATH=/usr/bin:/bin: which foo
  $

Please fix this by changing the pattern to *[!:]:, or back to the
perfectly good and arguably clearer (if longer) code that was there
before.

Cheers,

Bug#454481: jzip: package description should mention ckifzs

2007-12-05 Thread Drake Wilson
Package: jzip
Version: 210r20001005-1
Severity: wishlist

When I was looking for ckifzs in Debian, I used APT to search the
package descriptions, but found nothing. Then I remembered that it
was part of jzip. I suggest appending a sentence to the package
description, something like:

The ckifzs program, for checking the basic structure of save files
against the QUETZAL standard, is also included, as is the jzexe
program to create a standalone executable by gluing a Z-code file to
  jzip.

so that the other two programs included in the package will also be
findable through APT searches. (This is more necessary for ckifzs
than it is for jzexe, since the latter has an obviously related name.)

Bug#436524: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#436524: Bug#436524: thunar ignores LC_COLLATE?

Is there a reason Thunar has to ignore my locale and do things in a
non-standard way by default? Wouldn't it be better for Thunar to sort
things according to LC_COLLATE by default, and allow users who wished
to override the locale at the application level (i.e. specific to
Thunar) set MiscCaseSensitive to either TRUE *or* FALSE?

As it stands Thunar isn't integrated with the wider environment and so
the user has to configure it separately. If all utilities and
applications did this, then LC_COLLATE would be meaningless.

Bug#454497: claws-mail-extra-plugins ftbfs in ubuntu due to missing build-dep in debian/control

2007-12-05 Thread Jérôme Guelfucci
Package: claws-mail-extra-plugins
Version: 3.1.0-2

claws-mail-extra-plugins 3.1.0-2 building in ubuntu: during the
./configure of plugins libcurl*-dev is not found and the build stops.

I first wanted to report it to the debian BTS but I saw it builded
correctly, so I submitted a bug on LP
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/claws-mail-extra-plugins/+bug/173347
) with the following debdiff :

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10730545/debdiff3

When adding libcurl4-gnutls-dev to build deps, it builds correctly.
The debdiff was applied but some MOTUs asked me to report this to
debian as it might be a problem in future builds.

This is the first time I report a bug in debian, so I hope I'm doing
everything correctly :)

Thank you.

Bug#453345: debianutils: which script has extraneous code

I believe that Clint is incorrect that this was the intent; it certainly
wasn't my intent, as that does not correspond to the shell's command
search semantics. It's just an unremarkable accident of the obvious
implementation. ELEMENT is not supposed to be empty in that case branch.

I'm afraid I'm either misunderstanding the original message or Colin's
reply, though I'm not sure it matters for practical disposition of this
bug.

 So you need *[!:]: there.

Please fix this by changing the pattern to *[!:]:, or back to the
perfectly good and arguably clearer (if longer) code that was there
 before.

Aye.

Bug#454057: please move dpkg-architecture

2007-12-05 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Raphael Hertzog a écrit :
On Wed, 05 Dec 2007, Julien Cristau wrote:
Or we can change type-handling too. Apparently xorg only uses the fact
that type-handling provides not+sparc but it doesn't use the type-handling
program which is the real user of dpkg-architecture. Is that right?
 Yes, that's correct.

Maybe type-handling could be split with an empty package whose sole
purpose is to Provides some virtual packages while type-handling
stays the program with its dpkg-dev dependency.

I think this solution would be my first preference.

My preference would be for dpkg to allow 'Depends: foo [arch]' in arch:all
packages, but failing that, I agree.

Right now the support for the [arch] syntax is only in the perl code
and not at all in the C part that concerns dpkg. Adding it there is a
non-trivial effort and would probably also require changes in apt-based
 software.

Aurélien, what do you think of the idea of change concerning type-handling ?

From my point of view, we should get rid of type-handling as soon as
possible. This is actually a big and buggy hack to workaround dpkg/apt
lacks.

The first think I would like to see, is [os] or [cpu] support in
dpkg-dev *enabled* and *allowed* for arch-any packages. This would
replace type-handling in 90% of the cases.

For the [arch] support in binary-all packages, I guess the main use case
(if not all) is for metapackages depending on various packages. I don't
really see the problem (except the policy, but that can be changed) of
using binary-any packages for those metapackages, even if there is no
binary files insude them. They are by definition very small, so that
won't bloat the archive.

If there are still some cases not solved by this approach, I guess the
package that should provide the not+sparc package is dpkg. It is always
installed on systems, so strange behaviours of apt with virtual packages
is avoided. That's why we have type-handling installed on GNU/kFreeBSD
build daemons by default (GNU/kFreeBSD uses type-handling more than
other architectures).
