Bug#457412: [Kmymoney2-developer] Bug#457412: kmymoney2 crash when libchipcard2-data not installed
during configuration of the online-banking feature of kmymoney2, when choosing to import user data from chipcard and clicking on OK, kmymoney2 crashes and produces a backtrace. Only when started from the command-line it produces an understandable error-message which says that libchipcard is missing it's configuration file. Thus, after installing e.g. libchipcard2-data, it works. Martin, this sounds like an AqBanking/LibChipcard problem to me? Can you catch this somewhere so that the application does not crash? I assume the same will happen with GnuCash in this scenario. -- Regards Thomas Baumgart GPG-FP: E55E D592 F45F 116B 8429 4F99 9C59 DB40 B75D D3BA - Faster, better, cheaper - choose two of the above. - Old engineering proverb - pgpqdQ2XhWLiG.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#457018: Can not be installed on latest OpenOffice.org
Juhapekka Tolvanen kirjoitti: This software an not be installed, because latest version of openoffice.org-core is 2.3.1-2 and it conflicts with openoffice.org-core version 1:2.3.0.dfsg.1 or higher. This is now fixed since binary-only upload 2.1-1+b1. I could close this but generally only submitter and package maintainers are allowed to close bugs. Bugs like this happen every time OpenOffice is updated to new upstream version: openoffice.org-voikko needs to be recompiled. Usually no other changes are needed so user can recompile the openoffice.org-voikko package himself/herself. There is an explanation about this in the file /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-voikko/README.Debian Though it may be difficult to read the file if the package won't install. :) Of course maintainer Timo Jyrinki knows all this. I just wanted to add this explanation to bug tracking system and for original submitter. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#457121: lua5.1: Lua stack is too small for a script that takes over 2048 arguments
Hi, guys. I think it would be good to bring this up with the authors. Being able to follow the native restrictions is helpful for using Lua in system scripting, and generally in line with Lua's scalable attitude. The proposed alternative of making 'arg' a userdata which would proxy to the operating system's strings sounds small code, efficient and in every way preferable to me. Maybe that should be made into a patch and proposed to the authors, then? There are some issues, though. - If 'arg' is being phased out at some point (it no longer is needed for anything, really) how to give the unlimited functionality to '...' at the chunk level? - If 'arg' remains, it could work unlimited whereas the '...' way would carry the limits. hmmm John Belmonte kirjoitti 22.12.2007 kello 5:45: On Dec 21, 2007 3:47 PM, Norman Ramsey [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The patch (not setting '...') is easy and even discused on the lua mailing list, but is clearly a drift from the upstream I'd like not to perform. It would be a clear violation of the semantics as stated in the reference manual. I'm not suggesting we depart from upstream. This is an upstream misdesign which they need to correct. If function/chunk arguments are a constrained resource (like CPU registers, stack size, etc.) then the lua interpreter has no business mapping command line arguments to them. Bug#457378: sane-backends: FTBFS on hurd-i386
tags 457378 - patch thanks Samuel Thibault [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, sane-backends currently FTBFS on hurd-i386 because the plustek_pp backend defines its own ioctls calls which interact with a kernel module. That however can't compile as such when the linux ioctl defines are not available, thus the attached patch which disables the plustek_pp in that case. Of course, autoconf has to be rerun to get the patch actually have effect. Sorry, no way. Your patch will also disable the plustek_pp backend on kfreebsd, where that backend builds successfully. It's not tied to Linux-specific ioctls. You'll have to find another way, properly porting the backend is the preferred way as far as I'm concerned. You should really cross-check with kfreebsd before sending that kind of patches. Bug#457385: xserver-xorg: Crashed sometimes with intel video device
Hi Brice, Thank you for your mail. Basically, it's really hard for me to save the logs in time, because when this problem occures the screen become black and there is no way to get even a virtual console by (Ctrl-)Alt-Fx. The hotkey Ctrl-Alt-Backspace does not work too. The only thing I can do at that time is to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the whole machine reboot. The logs are gotten just after the restarting of the system (including the GDM). And, it is also difficult to reproduce it as desire; I don't know at all when it will happen. But I notice that, it occures always when I am using mouse to click some buttons in firefox/iceweasel. That is, I have encountered this bug several times; for each time, I do click some buttons of firefox/iceweasel, such as the closing button or other buttons of webpages. This is the only clue I can find up to now. I hope this is helpful and not a misleading one. Thank you very much. Bug#457421: im-switch: Please add config file which sets XIM for GTK and QT.
Package: im-switch Version: 1.14 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch It would be nice to have general IM config file which sets X Input Method (xim) for both GTK and QT programs. Such config file can be used with many languages. Patch is attached to this message. Probably the most important reason for such config file is that GTK programs don't use xim as default input method and hence the Compose key doesn't work in GTK programs. People have needed to add GTK_IM_MODULE=xim to their /etc/environment file but it can't be edited by a normal user. The second reason is related to new Finnish keyboard layout fi(kotoistus). In the future it will become the default Finnish layout and part of its functionality is provided throught the Compose key. So it may be that in the future Finnish users need XIM as default input method in all programs (GTK and QT). It would require adding /etc/alternatives/xinput-fi_FI for appropriate config file. But this is not the case just yet. For now I just suggest adding the config file inside the attached patch. Bug#457423: xfonts-wqy: Unconditionally deletes conffile during upgrade
Package: xfonts-wqy Version: 0.9.9-2 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 10.7.3 The postinst script in 0.9.9-2 checks the old fontconfig settings in /etc/fonts/conf.d/ and cleans them up during upgrade. However, the way it is handled violates the policy requirement about conffiles. Quote policy 10.7.3: Configuration file handling must conform to the following behavior: ... local changes must be preserved during a package upgrade However, in xfonts-wqy's postinst: # Clean up old config files if dpkg --compare-versions $2 lt-nl 0.9.9; then rm -f $CONFDIR/wqy.conf fi This will delete the /etc/fonts/conf.d/wqy.conf conffile even if it's locally modified. Although user modification of this file is not very likely, it's nonetheless a conffile already shipped in etch. And I think upgrades between stable releases should be treated very seriously. The fix is also not very hard, the script just need to check the md5sum of the conffile, something like the examples in [1]. 1. http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling Ming 2007.12.22 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. The problem is not the message Attention! This core is running with glibc 2.7 but it was compiled with glibc 2.6.1. This can lead to unexpected behaviour. Consider compiling the core yourself or getting a binary compiled with glibc 2.6.1. The problem comes later as that: [1]+ Violación de segmento mlnet == [1]+ Segmentation fault mlnet or something similar. This happens in Debian Testing and Unstable. We only need a recompilation of mlnet to solve it.

Bug#405737: Reassigning 405737 to debian-installer
reassign 405737 cdebconf-gtk-udeb retitle 405737 i810 based gfx cards need adhoc framebuffer driver to support g-i thanks I am reassigning this bug to debian-installer because it's not due to a bug in the GTK cdebconf frontend, but rather to the lack of the i810 fb module in the kernel. I don't think that's a good idea. AFAIK just providing the module is not enough as the load order of FB modules and the fact that some are built into the kernel will still result in the i810 FB driver not being used. Also, this is not a build system issue and thus debian-installer is just the wrong package. To support this changes will be needed in kernel-wedge, specific kernel-image-di udebs and probably rootskel or rootskel-gtk. While there are no specific and tested patches to implement support for this, the best place to keep this BR is at cdebconf-gtk-udeb as we still have the old agreement that we use that also to park general issues with the graphical installer. When someone does actually work on this and _has_ patches, the BR should be cloned/reassigned to the components that need to be changed. Cheers, FJP P.S. When you retitle bugs, please make sure that the title does not wrap to a new line! That will result in incorrect retitling. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

But feel free to adjust severity if that bothers you. it does say that you can require debian/rules clean to be run first-- which if you do should solve the problem with interrupted builds. Doing that can be really inconvenient when you're modifiing it. Every little change requires waiting a few minutes. If there was a reason for not supporting it in this particular package, I wouldn't bother, but running mkdir -p instead of mkdir is not a real inconvenient. there are many easily constructable situations where running build twice in a row might produce unwanted results (maybe if someone echo's or sed's onto files in the build target and undoes them in the clean target). Which is a *really* bad idea and also defeats most of the purpose of using make in the first place. -- Robert Millan GPLv2 I know my rights; I want my phone call! A patch for this bug would be changing the font sizes so that they use relative units instead of absolute ones (as you suggest in the end of your last message) preserving the current look and feel. The tricky part of doing that is that according to my tests em units are not cross-browsers compatible: I've tried with epiphany and firefox when the font size choices where in em and the pages looked remarkably different. Bug#457433: please build graphviz with cairo/gtk support
Hi, it would be very useful if graphviz would be built with gtk support. do you have real-life examples needing this? I'm a bit reluctant to introduce a new binary package right now, since I'd like to push graphviz 2.16 first (in experimental right now) and since some bits have to be tweaked in this one. Bug#457436: XDMCP stopped working
Package: kdm Version: 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-2 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- I am running a system with an attached thin-client. Some weeks ago all logins at the thin-client failed. First I thought it is because I did not update the thin-client for ages (it happend once before that terminals running older versions of X became incompatible with the server, e.g. keyboard selection stopped working, ...). Now I updated the thin-client system and noticed that logins still fail. I even tested locally with Xephyr and noticed that XDMCP really stopped working. You can reproduce the bug as follows: - enable XDMCP in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc - allow a login window for any host in /etc/kde3/kdm/Xaccess - restart kdm and log in - open a terminal window and call Xephyr :1 -ac -query localhost - try logging in On a Debian stable system this works instantly. On a Debian testing system I see the login window and can type in the user name and password. When pressing the login button the screen just goes blank for a moment and the login window reappears. PS: I tested the same procedure with GDM and there I even do not get the login window anymore. Sorry, but the outputs are still significantly different: yes, sorry: I was testing with xfs filesystems, and there everything is fine. Thus, I'm making some test with ext3: zion:~# mkfs.ext3 -m 50 /dev/system/discus that create a fs with half the space reserved to root. zion:~# df -k discus/ Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/system-discus 4128448139392 1891904 7% /root/discus zion:~# discus -k | grep discus +oot/discus 4128448 KB139392 KB 1891904 KB 3.4% [--] So, as before, both report the same information except for usage percentage. Anyway, noone reports the fact that 50% of space is reserved. The math would say that: zion:~# echo 139392/4128448 | octave -q ans = 0.033764 so discus should be correct, but dumpe2fs reveal the point: zion:~# dumpe2fs /dev/mapper/system-discus | egrep Block count|Reserved block count|Journal size dumpe2fs 1.40.3 (05-Dec-2007) Block count: 1048576 Reserved block count: 524288 Journal size: 128M then zion:~# echo (139392+128*1024)/4128448 | octave -q ans = 0.065512 rounded up to 7% (as df report). So the extra-used-space is for logfile. That seems to be a limitation of underlayer called fuction: would you think we can just report that in the documentation? I'm not sure what the 'discus' entries beginning with a + mean. due to output formatting, if the mountpoint has more characters that the one in the column, then discus print a + sign and the last chars of mountpoint. I think this may be a good question to pose to the upstream authors. I dropped an email to upstream, asking if he still maintain the software, but I'm not positive in that; let's wait. Bug#405737: Reassigning 405737 to debian-installer
Frans Pop wrote: reassign 405737 cdebconf-gtk-udeb retitle 405737 i810 based gfx cards need adhoc framebuffer driver to support g-i thanks I am reassigning this bug to debian-installer because it's not due to a bug in the GTK cdebconf frontend, but rather to the lack of the i810 fb module in the kernel. My concern is this bug will stay neglected forever if it remains in cdebconf-gtk-udeb. What about filing a new BR to another package, more kernel specific, so that once the kernel guys have added the i810 fb module to the kernel we can patch rootskel-gtk to have directfb using the right fb device ? Bug#312262: Updates on this discus bug
Hi Maciej, I know passed a long time between your report and this reply, but I'd like to know if all the reported filesystems are journaled (etx3 in particular). That is because it seems like discus can't retrive the journal file size information (the one used to guarantee the filesystem coherence). Moreover, It seems like both df and discus ignores reserved space (take a look at my reply to 344504). You only mention where to find documentation on system with a supposedly already installed qmail. To file a proper ITP, make sure you've read the policy manual about what to put in the Policy doesn't dictate the format of an ITP message though, or even a requirement to submit one. This particular ITP doesn't need to explain what qmail is (the target audience already knows) and the ITP isn't intended to be a review of the final descriptions. While it's correct that the policy does not say anything about ITPs IMHO one of the reasons ITPs are usually CCed to debian-devel is the review short and long description. This review is quite important for the quality of these descriptions. So the ITP should in IMO include a draft of the final short and long description. Gaudenz -- Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. We do not (in this bugreport) have a dispute over severity of those bugs that you listed. I did not even comment on them (as you seem well aware) but instead requested that you refer to the bugreports, as discussing severity of each bug is best done at those other bugreports. Our disagreement here is on severity of *this* bug, which I interpret as a metabug claiming that this package generally have too many too severe bugs. Please correct me if I somehow misunderstood the nature of the bug raised with this bugreport. Unfortunatly, I have to agree from a release team POV (i.e. speaking with my Release Manager hat on) with maks on the general status of the package, especially as maks spoke with his kernel arch maintainer hat on (so his remarks shouldn't be lightly waived away). One might discuss about the adequate severity of the individual bugs, but they together makes this package RC buggy. (Perhaps even some of the individual bugs make it - we can discuss that at the individual bug reports if wanted.) But there are some cases like brutal hardcoding - breaks ony every new linux image either due to /proc, /sys or /boot/config hardcoded parsing see #443821 for the latest 2.6.23 variation which are *not* fixed by adjusting to the current kernel, but we expect some flexibility and robustness as long term strategy. This isn't a final opinion on yaird, but please don't lower the severity of this bug report until either this bug is fixed also in the opinion of the bug reporter, or someone from the release team agrees to lowering the severity. The tricky part of doing that is that according to my tests em units are not cross-browsers compatible They are compatible, but they do not guarantee identical rendering in different browsers. Neither do absolute font size units. It is almost impossible to get exactly the same looks with every browser. Nor should that be a goal for a functional site such as the PTS (as opposed to a site that is a replacement for paper ads). For example, different browsers might have different font configurations (different base font size, different restrictions on minimum font size), or they might be using different fonts, or different versions of the the font libraries, or different widget libraries, all of which may result in text being rendered differently. --- revamp.css 2007-12-22 14:57:00.0 +0200 +++ revamp.css.new 2007-12-22 14:51:32.0 +0200 @@ -13,7 +13,7 @@ font-family: DejaVu Sans, Bitstream Vera Sans, sans-serif; /*Prefer Free Fonts*/ background: #fff url('debian.png') no-repeat 18px 7px; color: #000; -font-size: 11pt; +font-size: 110%; } a:link{ color: #0755d7; text-decoration: underline; } @@ -27,7 +27,7 @@ /* --- Header --- */ body form { /* Jump to package */ margin: 0.3em; -font-size: 10pt; +font-size: 100%; padding: 0.5em; border: 1px solid #aaa; background-color: #dfdfdf; @@ -36,7 +36,7 @@ h1 { margin: 0 0 0 0; padding: 20px 0 0 220px; -font-size: 18pt; +font-size: 180%; min-height: 60px; height: auto !important; /* Min-Height Fast Hack */ height: 60px; @@ -73,7 +73,7 @@ td.titlecell { padding: 0.2em 0.2em 0.1em 0.2em; font-weight: bold; -font-size: 12pt; +font-size: 120%; background: #d70751; color: #fff; border-top: 3px solid #999; @@ -99,10 +99,10 @@ } /* - Edge Tables - */ -tr#bugs_rc { font-size: 9pt; } -tr#bugs_in { font-size: 9pt; } -tr#bugs_mw { font-size: 9pt; } -tr#bugs_fp { font-size: 9pt; } +tr#bugs_rc { font-size: 90%; } +tr#bugs_in { font-size: 90%; } +tr#bugs_mw { font-size: 90%; } +tr#bugs_fp { font-size: 90%; } span.indented { padding-left: 1.5em; } td form { margin: 0.4em 0 0.4em 0.4em; padding: 0; } /* PTS subscribe */ @@ -146,7 +146,7 @@ border-color: #fc9 #630 #330 #f96 !important; padding: 0 3px!important; font-weight: bold !important; -font-size: 8pt!important; +font-size: 80%!important; text-decoration: none !important; vertical-align: 0.2em !important; /* Without !important, inherets from td.titlecell a:* */

I'm not suggesting we depart from upstream. This is an upstream misdesign which they need to correct. If function/chunk arguments are a constrained resource (like CPU registers, stack size, etc.) then the lua interpreter has no business mapping command line arguments to them. What if some OS had virtually unlimited command line length? OK, we all agree on this, thus this ``bug'' will not be fixed with a Debian specific patch. Hoping for an upstream release that fixes that misdesign choice, I tag the bug with wontfix. cheers -- Enrico Tassi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. forwarded 453754 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13782 thank you Bastian Blank wrote: So, either you get unsync'ed double buffering, or you get this crash, no runnable config? Yep. Is the double buffering probel a hardware bug or why can't it be fixed? Software, apparently. Forwarded upstream at the URL above, feel free to add any comment there. Bug#457294: [powerpc] System time not updated after sleep cycle

I have to restart ntp to get it updated. This problem didn't occur with previous kernels. It persists in 2.6.23-2~snapshot.9949 but is fixed in 2.6.24~rc5-1~experimental.1~snapshot.9974 . I'm CC'ing the linuxppc-dev list on this report in the hope that someone there remembers how this was fixed post 2.6.23 upstream and that the fix can hopefully be backported. Can you describe your hardware platform? So we can try to reproduce it. It's a PowerBook5,8. I assume you're using the default debian .config? Yes, I'm using the linux-image-2.6.23-1-powerpc package.
