Bug#458399: jetty: Jetty depends on a java 1.5 package

The JspServlet contained in libtomcat5.5-java is compiled with Java 1.5
  (class version 49.0)
which will not run on a java 1.4 runtime which should be enough to run
  Jetty.

The problem is that Jetty depends on (and uses) libtomcat5.5-java. The
Tomcat source uses (among other Java5 features) generics. That is the
reason wht this class file is only for Java5 and the reason why jetty in
  Debian needs Java5 too.

This differs from the download package of Jetty which runs on older
 versions of Java as well.
 I see two options:
 1) Make it clear that a java2-runtime is not enough
 2) Decouple jetty from tomcat and distribute the complete jetty package
 instead.
(maybe even conflict with tomcat? Why would you want two servlet engines
 on the same machine?)

Unfortunately we have currently no way to tell a package that is needs
Java5 or newer stuff. You are right in saying that Debian now mainly
supports Java5/6 on all platforms. arm is a special case here as our
main runtime (GCJ) doesnt really work there due to several problems.

What about using jamvm or cacao? These support java 5 stuff too and
unline GCJ they work on arm.

Of course, the last alternative is to keep it as as, as only java1.5/1.6
and gcj are officially in Debian
anyway. If this is the case, please feel free to close this report.

I tend to keep this bug open but tag it 'wontfix'. I will need to think
some days about this.

Bug#459537: libgraphviz3: should allow dependencies to be satisfied by either of 'libgd2-xpm' or 'libgd2-noxpm'

2008-01-07 Thread Ben Finney
Package: libgraphviz3
Version: 2.12-5
Severity: minor

The 'libgraphviz3' package has recently gained an explicit Depends:
libgd2-xpm. This renders the package uninstallable on systems where
the 'libgd2-noxpm' package is installed intentionally to avoid X
packages.

Please set the Depends field such that it will be satisfied by either
of 'libgd2-xpm' or 'libgd2-noxpm'.

It may be worth noting that there is a virtual package, 'libgd2',
provided by both 'libgd2-xpm' and 'libgd2-noxpm'. This may help in
forming the correct Depends field.

The bug reporter is a very special situation as we wants to run jetty on
an arm architecture which is not supported by SUN nor by GCJ.

After all, java was only really open sourced from 1.5.

Java is really open sourced from 7. Java 5 and 6 are still closed source
and probably ever will be.

Bug#459539: texlive-lang-cyrillic: Really large cyrillic fonts unavailable

2008-01-07 Thread Andrey
Package: texlive-lang-cyrillic
Version: 2007.dfsg.3-1
Severity: normal

To reproduce:

1) Download and unzip the file

http://www-i6.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/~dreuw/download/beamerposter-example.zip

2) Run latex/pdftex on file example.tex -- you will get a sample
poster with really large glyphs in it (you will need package beamer
   installed).

3) Change

   \usepackage[english]{babel}
   \usepackage[latin1]{inputenc}

   to

   \usepackage[russian]{babel}
   \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}

in preamble and run latex/pdftex again. It will report problem:

ERROR: Enormous number has been reduced.

Although poster will be created, there will be no large glyphs.

Looks like needed cyrillic fonts are lacking or misconfigured. Regular
LaTeX documents with cyrillics are produced just finely, the problem
exists only for really large fonts.

Bug#31352: Should be marked as wontfix?

On Mon, 07 Jan 2008, Christian Perrier wrote:

The point is not even wanting to distribute non-free software or
not. Even if Debian wasn't distributing non-free software (which is
highly debatable), tools have no reason to blacklist repositories that
do. Our priorities are our users blah blah blah.

Of course, blacklisting repositories is not something acceptable. However,
before closing this bug, it makes sense to verify that dselect doesn't
show packages in Suggests: or Recommends: if they don't exist according to
its list of packages.

That way, when non-free is not used, non-free packages are not shown,
which seems to be the right behaviour.

Bug#459536: cmap-adobe-korea1: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2008-01-07 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: cmap-adobe-korea1
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
--languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
Language-Team field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

Bug#459538: mpd: init script should conform to LSB

2008-01-07 Thread Ben Finney
Package: mpd
Version: 0.13.0-2
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

The init script for the mpd package does not yet conform to LSB
guidelines.

I have followed URL:http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts and edited
'debian/mpd.init.d' to be closer to a standard LSB init script. The
attached patch is against version 0.13.0-2 of the mpd package.

In particular, this patch addresses the following:

  * a standard init script metadata block

  * using just the shell program name in the shebang line, and setting
options within the script with the 'set' command (not part of LSB,
but a move to make this a more-standard init script)

  * using only the LSB log_foo_msg functions for init script output

  * using standard init script exit status codes: 0 for success, 1 for
failure, 2 for usage message

Bug#459480: network-manager: Problem with LSB header in init.d script

2008-01-07 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Michael Biebl]
The documentation at http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts is not clear
about that, but there seem to be a lot of init scripts in /etc/init.d
which use $local_fs $remote_fs contrary to your proposed $remote_fs.

Could you please improve the documentation in that regard so we have a
 consistent behaviour.

I've updated the documentation on
URL:http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts, and it now reads for
$local_fs and $remote_fs:

$local_fs all local filesystems are mounted. All scripts that write in
/var/ need to depend on this, unless they already depend on
 $remote_fs.

$remote_fs all filesystems are mounted. In some LSB run-time
environments, filesystems such as /usr may be remote. If
the script need a mounted /usr/, it need to depend on
$remote_fs. Scripts depending on $remote_fs do not need to
 depend on $local_fs.

Should I add more? It used to say the opposite, before I got more
experience with the dependency based boot system and found out what
made sense.

Happy hacking,

Bug#458445: aspell-cs: missing (not)casechars in info file

2008-01-07 Thread Milan Zamazal
MK == Miroslav Kure [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

MK You have to run `/usr/sbin/update-dictcommon-aspell` afterwards
MK to regenerate
MK `/var/cache/dictionaries-common/emacsen-ispell-dicts.el`.

I see. After this it works as you describe, i.e. Debian ispell.el works
with ISO 8859-2 buffers, but not with UTF-8 buffers. And Emacs
ispell.el starts working fine in both cases with aspell.

I can see that Debian ispell.el examines buffer-file-coding-system and
uses it to set aspell --encoding command line option. I don't know
what's the reason behind it as Emacs ispell.el simply sets it to utf-8
and it works for me, but it looks like there is some mismatch between
what aspell expects on its input, the --encoding option value and the
process coding systems set in Debian ispell.el.

So besides the missing aspell-cs definition there must be additionally
some bug in ispell.el from dictionaries-common.

Regards,

Milan Zamazal

2008-01-07 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Michael Biebl]
Btw. currently the header of the rsyslog init script has
 # Provides: syslog

Yes. Not quite good, but I have not gotten around to asking the
maintainer to change it.

 I read http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts though I'm not entirely
sure if this is correct or I should use
 # Provides: rsyslog
 instead.

You should provide the base name of the script, without any .sh files.

Could you please document somewhere, how a facility that can be
provided by different packages should be expressed in the LSB init
 header.

Will try.

Btw, one can add files in /etc/insserv.conf.d/ to extend the content
of insserv.conf. I have not tried it myself.

Happy hacking,

Bug#459334: should stop rendering when monitor is off

Simon Richter wrote:
 Package: xscreensaver

 Hi,

when I leave home, I occasionally leave my system locked with
xscreensaver instead of logging out. When I log in remotely, I see the
screensaver still using lots of CPU power -- however the monitor has
 been switched off via DPMS.

The X server notifies clients of this with a VisibilityNotify:
VisibilityFullyObscured; it would be good if xscreensaver stopped
 rendering then.

Hi,

Which screensaver are you using, I can't note this, maybe is because I
have a video card so my CPU doesn't render anything, if you're using a
GL screensaver your CPU shouldn't be working then.

Regards.

Bug#459497: heartbeat: Problem with LSB header in init.d script

2008-01-07 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Simon Horman]
thanks for tracking down this problem, and thanks doubly for the
patch. Do you think that this change warrants a fresh upload or can
 it wait?

I believe it warrants a quick upload, as it will break the package
when installed on a system where dependency based boot sequencing is
in use.

Happy hacking,

Bug#447961: upcoming NMU for nut

2008-01-07 Thread Arnaud Quette
Hi Sebastian,

thanks for taking care of this.
I have an update (2.2.1) underway, but devs drained most of my time.
I can integrate your changes in it if you prefer...

Note that, for #447961, I've suppressed udev from Build-deps, keeping
it only in Depends.

2008/1/6, Sebastian Harl [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 tags 445000 + patch
 tags 447961 + patch
 thanks

 Hi,

As there was no progress for either of these bugs I will do a 0-day NMU. You
can find the diff for the NMU at [1]. As the changes for both bugs are trivial
I did not split it up for each bug.

 Cheers,
 Sebastian

Bug#447172: patch for lirc source package for Makefiles modifications etc

2008-01-07 Thread Václav Ovsík
Hi,
I was fighting with lirc-modules-source last weekend.

Please consider my changes to lirc source package - patch attached.

Original Makefiles modification by sed I replaced with a smarter awk
script. Two rules for making Makefile.in and Makefile are removed from
Makefile based on `Makefile' string on left side of colon and all lines
up to next rule are removed. Original sed script kills Makefile because
Makefile structure changed with new version of lirc (new autoconf or
automake or similar).

Finally I found, that gawk is optional package (tested with gawk).
I fixed regexps, that works with mawk now, witch is required package.
I hope, things are correct now.

Bug#459522: insserv: check-initd-order uses hard-coded facilities

2008-01-07 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Michael Biebl]
 /usr/share/insserv/check-initd-order doesn't respect
/etc/insserv.conf but uses hard coded facilities instead. Line
38-58. It should use the values defined in /etc/insserv.conf (I'm
not sure if /etc/inserv.d/ is supported in Debian) instead.

I agree. It is on the todo list. Patches are most welcome. :)

Bug#459543: mysql-server-5.0: ndb-cluster is broken

2008-01-07 Thread Benedikt Zorn
Package: mysql-server-5.0
Version: 5.0.45-5
Severity: normal

When doing a CREATE TABLE tbl_1 (id INT(11) AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY, test
VARCHAR(25)) ENGINE=ndbcluster;,
I get the error message ERROR 1005 (HY000): Can't create table
'./test_db/tbl_1.frm' (errno: 879). Despite that
message there is a table tbl_1 in my database.
On the node where I created the table I get the following message when doing a
DESCRIBE tbl_1:

mysql describe tbl_1;
ERROR 1296 (HY000): Got error 4243 'Index not found' from ndbcluster

On my other node I get the following:

mysql describe tbl_1;
+---+-+--+-+-++
| Field | Type| Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+---+-+--+-+-++
| id| int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL| auto_increment |
| test  | varchar(25) | YES  | | NULL||
+---+-+--+-+-++
2 rows in set (0.00 sec)

When trying to insert some data into this table I get th following error:

mysql INSERT INTO tbl_1 VALUES (0, test1);
ERROR 1296 (HY000): Got error 4243 'Index not found' from ndbcluster

When doing a CREATE TABLE tbl_2 (id INT(11) PRIMARY KEY, test VARCHAR(25))
ENGINE= ndbcluster; instead of the above command,
I get no error message and the table can be described on all nodes.

mysql describe tbl_2;
+---+-+--+-+-+---+
| Field | Type| Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+---+-+--+-+-+---+
| id| int(11) | NO | PRI | | |
| test | varchar(25) | YES | | NULL| |
+---+-+--+-+-+---+
2 rows in set (0.00 sec)

When trying to insert into this table with the following command:

mysql INSERT INTO tbl_2 VALUES (1, test);

I get the following error message:
ERROR 1296 (HY000): Got error 879 '879' from ndbcluster

When doing the same with the original mysql binaries I get no errors at all.

My ndb-Cluster consists of 3 physical nodes. One of these serves as management
node, the other two are both data- and mysql-nodes.
I am working with 2 replicas.

Bug#457412: [Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#457412: kmymoney2 crash when libchipcard2-data not installed

2008-01-07 Thread Fathi Boudra
Hi Micha,

Fatih, you shouldn't have closed the bug without providing any
versioning information. Moreover, if it's not a bug of kmymoney2, please
reassign it to the affected package (instead of simply closing it) next
 time.

You missed the fact that libchipcard2 is still available in Etch, and
needs to be fixed there because missing dependencies are of release
critical severity (especially when causing segfaults). Thus I reassign
the bug to libchipcard2 -- and will take care of it there.

Just to be clear, i didn't missed anything.

I choosed to close the bug without anything more than my 2c comments which
is pretty clear:

Please, submit your bug report to Ubuntu Launchpad.

By the way, i took time to look if it'isn't a kmymoney bug but not more.
I can understand you don't agree with my decision, anyway i would like to
explain my motivation and explain it:

our priority is our users.

cheers,

Fathi

Bug#459546: linux-image-2.6.18-5-xen-686: bnx2 fails to work with xen bridging

2008-01-07 Thread Xavier Poinsard
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-5-xen-686
Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-17
Severity: important

The shipped version of the bnx2 driver fails to work with xen bridging.
With an updated version like this one :
http://linux.dell.com/files/bnx2/xen-fix/
the network driver is working. This bug fix is detailled in the driver
changelog.
Updating this driver would save many users of xen having this broadcom
network card.

Bug#305471: gnome-session: Erratic logout behavior

2008-01-07 Thread Daniel Haude
Package: gnome-session
Version: 2.14.3-5
Followup-For: Bug #305471

Hello,

I'm having similar problems: After logging into a GNOME session, I cannot
immediately log back out. After clicking on the Log Out button the
confirmation dialog disappears but nothing happens. Then, after one or two
minutes, I suddenly get kicked out of the desktop without notice, regardless
of what I've been doing at that time.

Some process seems to keep the desktop alive, but top shows nothing but
idle.

Logout functions normally after the desktop has been runing for a few
minutes.

Maybe this is related: After logging in, the splash window persists for
about a minute with the word nautilus at the bottom.

Bug#459497: [patch] init: add should-start/stop $remote_fs to init script

2008-01-07 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Simon Horman]
I notice that the openhpid init script in Debian doesn't have any
LSB tags, and in paricular no Provides: , so I have just used
openhpid as the dependancy, rather than $openhpid. Is that correct?

Yes, that is correct. The $ marker is only for virtual services, and
the complete list of those are listed on
URL:http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts.

The openhpid init script should be fixed to include LSB tags. I just
have not gotten around to report it to BTS. Still got ~250 scripts to
report to BTS.

Also, should-stop ntp appears to be missing. I'd appreciate your
thoughts o whether it should be added.

I suspect the ntp dependency is wasted as depending on $time is enough
to make sure the clock is correctly set, and I assume it depend on ntp
to make sure clocks are correct. And I further assume that it does
not care when ntp stops during the shutdown sequence, and thus do not
need to list it in should-stop. This is just based on my knowledge
about ntp and heartbeat, and that is not much, so I might be mistake.

Happy hacking,

Bug#457909: Changes + to space in URLs

I noticed that for URLs like

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/54419

...the +'s are replaced with spaces, resulting in a *wrong* URL.

The behavior of the function in question (w3m-url-decode-string)
has never changed basically since it was introduced in August,
2001. I'm not sure whether replacing +'s with spaces is wrong
but I believe it is done for a user to view with the eyes, not
for copying a url. The function does not only replacing +'s
with spaces but also decoding characters that are represented in
the hexadecimal form. In the later case, it might fail in
copying a url displayed in the echo area to the other client
because of non-ASCII characters. Therefore, I think the best
way for you is to not decode urls that are displayed in the echo
area. To do that:

(setq w3m-show-decoded-url nil)

Hmm that bug appears to be about supporting the google

Not sure at all. Just that webpages which shade the window to
display a DHTML dialog cause similar slowdowns. The phishing

Bug#459548: dh_fixperms should chmod 755 /usr/share/bug/*/script

2008-01-07 Thread Fabian Greffrath

package: debhelper
severity: minor

Hi,

many packages make use use of /usr/share/bug/*/script files. These files
are most often added to the packaging via the Debian .diff.gz file and
are installed into the binary packages via debian/*.install files. This
way there is no other way to keep the files executable than to manually
chmod them in debian/rules. If you miss this, lintian throws the
script-not-executable warning.

I suggest extending dh_fixperms to automatically fix the permissions for
these files if the are installed into a package.

Thanks,
Fabian

To be able to check boot script order, and also to be able to start
boot scripts in parallel, it is important to know the dependencies of
the various boot scripts. The Linux Software Base specifies a init.d
header file format useful for this purpose, and adding such header to
the anacron init.d script would make it possible for me to use this
information to check the current sequence and to speed up the debian
boot.

I am working on a system to update the boot sequence based on these
dependencies, and would like see this as the default in Lenny.
Because of this, it is nice if the dependencies was updated quickly.

URL:http://refspecs.freestandards.org/LSB_2.1.0/LSB-generic/LSB-generic/initscrcomconv.html
documents the LSB header format. Some debian notes are available from
URL:http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts.

Here is a patch to document the dependencies. I hope this is correct.

Bug#447764: [php-maint] Bug#447764: libapache2-mod-php5: updated debdiff

Attached is an updated debdiff for 5.2.4-2.

I have just a few small comments/questions about this patch:

- The page includes a message explaining how to install libapache2-mod-php5.
If that's the package that ships this page, why should that be given as
part of the instructions for getting php working? Perhaps that should be
  omitted?
- Should the static content perhaps list mysql and postgresql as not
tested rather than not working, so users aren't prematurely led to
think they need to debug a sql server problem?
- The page checks extension_loaded() without also trying to load the modules
with dl(). I know upstream's approach to extension loading is irrevocably
broken, but it would IMHO still be nice if the page would this way detect
the php5-mysql installed, but not globally enabled case.
- Any chance of a bit more color for the table? :-)

Overall, I think this is a reasonable thing to add to the package. Sean,
are you ok with it?

Bug#456777: grub-pc: Please support installation Xen virtual block devices

The grub package does not currently support installation in a Xen
guest domain because it does not understand the Xen virtual block
 devices (/dev/xvd[a-z]).

This support is mainly useful because it allows the Debian installer to
work in a Xen guest without Xen specific workarounds.

It might also be useful for someone who wanted to switch between
a guest between para-virtual and fully-virtualised (HVM) operation.

Patch for grub2 is attached. Note however that the paravirtual
bootloader used by Xen (pygrub) does not yet support the grub2 grub.cfg
format, just the previous menu.lst format so this patch is necessary but
not yet sufficient. I'll be working on a patch for this aspect separately.

Thanks for your effort. Can you please send this to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ? We
can discuss this in upstream since it's not Debian-specific.

Bug#459552: German spellchecking is broken

Package: texmacs
Version: 1:1.0.6.11-1

Hello,
the german spellchecking is broken. I get the following error message :

TeXmacs] Launching 'aspell -a -d ngerman -T latin1'
TeXmacs] ispell error: Fehler: The file /usr/lib/aspell/ngerman cannot
be opened for reading.

In etch it worked fine. I am sure the reason for that are the changed
names of the dictionaries. Earlier we had german and ngerman which means
new german orthography, but that was changed to german and old german.
The dictionary which has to be used is called german. With aspell -d
german things work fine. I don't know how to make use of that in
texmacs, but I guess a fix should be quite simple.

Thanks a lot,
Sebastian

Bug#459424: libsane: upgrade breaks system, /dev/ missies files afterwards

2008-01-07 Thread Tobias Frost
Please read
http://lists.debian.org/debian-policy/2008/01/msg00059.html

However as far as I see, the actual issue in #459424 is very different:
package bar (in this context: libsane-extras) is buggy whether it is in
installed state or removed state.
Package foo (in this context: libsane) is not required to work around bar
breakage as long as bar
is not part of a stable release. If foo insists to do it, then I think

Bug#459554: java-gcj-compat-plugin: Plugin isn't working at all

2008-01-07 Thread Anders Boström
Package: java-gcj-compat-plugin
Version: 1.0.77-2
Severity: important

I can't get the plugin to work in iceweasel at all. No single applet
I've tried work. I just get a pop-up window asking me to trust the
applet, and after clicking on Trust Applet, a grey box is shown
where the applet should appear.

Applets I've tried include the ones at
http://java.sun.com/applets/jdk/ and
http://www.gnu.org/software/classpath/

I have tested both the version in testing, 1.0.76-5, and unstable
without any success.

I'm trying to get a 64-bit java plugin for my amd64-system, and was
hoping for this one, but...

The (old) blackdown plugin (j2re1.4-mozilla-plugin from
http://www.tux.org/pub/java/debian) is working for me, but the debian
package requires firefox, and the firefox package isn't working with
the latest iceweasel package in testing. :-(

Bug#459553: cpudyn: Please add LSB formatted dependency info in init.d script

2008-01-07 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: cpudyn
Version: 1.0-2
Tags: patch
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: missing-dependency

Bug#440420: [PROPOSAL] Manual page encoding

display English manual pages rather than misencoded garbage. This
might not be such a big deal for European languages, but for e.g.
Japanese I suspect most people would prefer English to the spew you
get by trying to interpret UTF-8 as EUC-JP.

I'd rather fix the other implementations, frankly. All of Debian is
moving towards UTF-8, as is all of the rest of the Linux world, and I'd
rather not leave transitional measures around forever.

Mm.

I think I am increasingly leaning towards just using /usr/share/man/LL,
seeing as man has to try decoding pages there as UTF-8 first anyway, but
  please comment if you care.

 I agree with this position.

OK. I've changed man-db upstream to install its own translated manual
pages in non-.UTF-8 directories again, and will incorporate this option
into the transition plan when it comes time to send it to
-devel-announce.

Unfortunately 2.5.0 wasn't quite enough. Aside from a couple of stupid
bugs (mostly fixed now), it turns out that we need an extra feature to
allow debhelper to produce UTF-8 versions of manual pages without
needing the source encoding to be explicitly specified, by guessing the
encoding in the same way that man does:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2007/10/msg00063.html

I committed this feature to my development trunk earlier today, and will
be working on a 2.5.1 release over the next couple of weeks. After that
I'll send Joey a patch for debhelper.

It sounds like the same feature could be used by other man implementations
that currently can't deal with UTF-8.

Yes; doing so would also fix their misfeatures of attempting to locate
manual pages on disk themselves rather than letting man do it. :-)

Cheers,

libeel2-2.20 is a library! Why is it recommending applications? IMO
it's perfectly reasonable to have libeel2-2.20 installed for e.g.
gnome-mount without wanting or needing synaptic and app-install-data,
so these packages SHOULD NOT be recommended by libeel2-2.20.

Bug#459424: libsane: upgrade breaks system, /dev/ missies files afterwards

2008-01-07 Thread Julien BLACHE
Tobias Frost [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Hi,

However as far as I see, the actual issue in #459424 is very different:
package bar (in this context: libsane-extras) is buggy whether it is in
 installed state or removed state.
Package foo (in this context: libsane) is not required to work around bar
 breakage as long as bar
is not part of a stable release. If foo insists to do it, then I think
the best option is to do it in the preinst script.

I'm not willing to touch a conffile from another package in the
preinst, this would be an option but it's another option that's very
prone to breakage.

I have two ways to avoid the current breakage for people in your
situation:
 - have libsane Depend on libsane-extras (= 1.0.18.15)
 - change the name of the label in the udev rules in libsane, so as to
   make it unique again

At that time, if I was to do something about it, I'd just add the
dependency to libsane. That's going to pull in libsane-extras for
everybody, which is no big deal. libsane-extras is only a separate
package because it's handy when it needs to be updated, not because
of its size or dependencies.

Option 2 is a partial fix, in that the udev rules in libsane-extras
really have 2 bugs, and option 2 only works around one of them. I'd
rather have them BOTH fixed.

I think I'm going for option 1 later today.

I'm not reopening, to let you decide how to handle the bug.

As far as libsane-extras is concerned, the bug is fixed. The bug did
not make it to a stable release, as it only appeared after Linux
2.6.22, and that's w after Etch's release :)

Yes, that is correct. The $ marker is only for virtual services, and
the complete list of those are listed on
 URL:http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts.

The openhpid init script should be fixed to include LSB tags. I just
have not gotten around to report it to BTS. Still got ~250 scripts to
 report to BTS.

Understood. I thought that you might have already spotted that
openhpid is missing tags. But it seems like it doesn't effect
the fixes for heartbeat.

Thanks, I will investigate further.

+ Supporting the standardized environment variable
+ ttDEB_BUILD_OPTIONS/tt is recommended. This variable can
+ contain several flags to change how a package is compiled and
+ built. Each flag must be in the form varflag/var or
+ varflag/var=varoptions/var. If multiple flags are
+ given, they must be separated by whitespace.footnote
+ Some packages support any delimiter, but whitespace is the
+ easiest to parse inside a makefile and avoids ambiguity with
+ flag values that contain commas.
 + /footnote
+ varflag/var must consist only of lowercase letters
 + (tta-z/tt), numbers (tt0-9/tt), and the characters
 + tt-/tt and tt_/tt (hyphen and underscore).
+ varoptions/var must not contain whitespace. The same
+ tag should not be given multiple times with conflicting
+ values. Package maintainers may assume that
+ ttDEB_BUILD_OPTIONS/tt will not contain conflicting tags.

Could this be changed to say that flags start with «[a-z]» optionally
followed by 0 or more «[a-z][0-9]-_»?

Bug#459558: gcjwebplugin: Plugin isn't working at all

2008-01-07 Thread Anders Boström
Package: gcjwebplugin
Version: 2:0.96.1-1
Severity: important

I can't get the plugin to work in iceweasel at all. No single applet
I've tried work. I just get a pop-up window asking me to trust the
applet, and after clicking on Trust Applet, a grey box is shown
where the applet should appear.

Applets I've tried include the ones at
http://java.sun.com/applets/jdk/ and
http://www.gnu.org/software/classpath/

I've tried with both cacao and jamvm with the same result.

iceweasel prints this (using jamvm):

I'm trying to get a 64-bit java plugin for my amd64-system, and was
hoping for this one, but...

The (old) blackdown plugin (j2re1.4-mozilla-plugin from
http://www.tux.org/pub/java/debian) is working for me, but the debian
package requires firefox, and the firefox package isn't working with
the latest iceweasel package in testing. :-(

Bug#459556: Library recommends applications

 Without explanation, eel2 (2.20.0-3) adds

 * Recommend app-install-data and synaptic.

libeel2-2.20 is a library! Why is it recommending applications? IMO
it's perfectly reasonable to have libeel2-2.20 installed for e.g.
gnome-mount without wanting or needing synaptic and app-install-data,

Certainly. And this is why these are recommends, not depends.

so these packages SHOULD NOT be recommended by libeel2-2.20.

Is there a good reason for this change?

The reason is, eel-open-with-dialog now uses app-install-data and
synaptic to install applications able to read a specific MIME type.

Granted, these recommendations could be moved to nautilus, but this
change is not nautilus-specific; that was the whole point in doing it in
libeel.

Bug#305471: gnome-session: Erratic logout behavior

I'm having similar problems: After logging into a GNOME session, I cannot

confirmation dialog disappears but nothing happens.

Yes, this is related. This is certainly caused by a buggy application
that is declared to the session manager but doesn’t register to it.
There is a 2 minutes timeout, until which gnome-session is waiting for
it to register.

You need to dig in the programs launched in .gnome2/session to find out
which one is buggy.

Bug#458119: bugfix release

2008-01-07 Thread Raphaël Enrici
Hi,
as mentioned in 411575 and 413675, pgAdmin III 1.4.x depends
on wxWidgets = 2.7.x which is not yet available in debian (AFAIK).

From time to time I publish unofficial packages that you can easily
rebuild on your distro version/arch.

Take a look at :
http://www.pgadmin.org/download/debian.php

I'm gonna retitle this bug and tag it as wishlist.

Regards,
Raphaël

 It's not entirely clear to me that this is incorrect;
as I understand it, the order of expansion should be
 1) expand $TEMP to /tmp/blah
 2) filename generation on /tmp/blah/blah.?.blah
 3) quote removal

On the other hand, $TEMP/blah.?.blah works.

Bug#458154: [NSLU2] ssh connection should not time out

2008-01-07 Thread Geert Stappers
Op 07-01-2008 om 00:12 schreef Frans Pop:
snip/
However, the fact remains that _we_ have so far not been able to reproduce
the issue. As I've said earlier, I've had an SSH install sitting unused for
over 4 hours without the connection being lost, with basically default SSH
settings both on the SSH client machine and in the installer.

So the question still is _why_ ssh drops the connection in your case.
AFAICT from reading the SSH documentation, the default SSH settings that are
used in the installer do _not_ poll the client to see if it is still there,
so it is unlikely that the server is responsible for dropping the
 connection.

Maybe you could try running your ssh client with maximum verbosity options
to see what is going on?

Please tell also about the network configuration, especially the Domain
Name Server setup. I suspect that due incomplete DNS configuration
the installer can not reverse lookup the FQDN of the client, which
results in different time-out behaviour.

Bug#459437: Processed: reopen 459437

Bug#459437: liblucene-java: Missing dependency when using liblucene
 Bug reopened, originator not changed.

Please CC the according bug when reopening bugs.

java.util.Arrays was introduced in Java 1.2 so its basically included in
any of todays runtimes itself. There is no need for an additional
dependency.

Your original bug report was about the class org.apache.lucene.util.Arrays
not being found. This was a class existing in early lucene releases. It
was removed in lucene again and java.util.Arrays was used instead. In
Debian even the lucene version in oldstable (sarge) doesnt contain the
class org.apache.lucene.util.Arrays. I dont checked woody.

In your original report you had the following stacktrace:

 Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
 org.apache.lucene.util.Arrays
   at BlosxomIndexer.indexDocs(BlosxomIndexer.java:163)
   at BlosxomIndexer.indexDocs(BlosxomIndexer.java:157)
   at BlosxomIndexer.main(BlosxomIndexer.java:111)

That means that a class called BlosxomIndexer tries to use
org.apache.lucene.util.Arrays (instead of java.util.Arrays).
This means your copy of BlosxomIndexer was compiled a very old version
of lucene.

I hope that explains the situation a bit. I still think that this bug
should be closed as it is no bug in Debian (and never was at least since
sarge). When you agree please close this bug.

Cheers,
Michael

Yeah, dpkg-reconfigure won't generate that section again for the forseeable
future.

So extmod wasn't loaded for you before? It should be loaded by default
every time. What version of xserver-xorg-core are you running? Can you
attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file?

The one I'm using now is from stable/etch. I assume you want my

Bug#459468: python-support: please make namespace feature optional

Please add a possibility to disable changes introduced in 0.7 (adding

It should be disabled by default (IMHO) otherwise more bugs like #459446
 will occur

Let me guess: there is a templates.py containing the module, and a a
templates/ subdirectory containing templates?

Frankly, it is expected, when doing such horrible things, to hit
horrible bugs. Python templates, in a directory available to python,
that you don’t want available to the interpreter? Are upstream
developers mad or what?

Python directories are meant to put python packages, not tons of data
and whatnot for the package, and it is a real shame there are facilities
in the language to help doing such stupid things. This data should have
been in /usr/share/something instead from the very beginning.

Given how namespace packages are implemented, you can’t disable them on
a per-package basis. What we could imagine is to ship e.g. a “.noinit”
file in directories in which you don’t want __init__.py to be created.
But this should be a workaround for buggy packages, not the default
behavior.

Would that solution be sufficient for you?

I suppose the unversioned dependency to scala-library is wrong and
should be replaced by a versionend one depending on a newer
scala-library than currently is in lenny.

  In chel di` si favelave...

Ok, now i will reconf all my server using ldap://localhost/ insted of
 ldapi:///
 Your call, but I wouldn't trade ldapi:/// for ldap:///

can you point me on a doc/link that explain the performance gain of
using ldap instead of ldapi?

but because is one-line patch (to debconf script, not to the
software itself) why not simply apply also in etch?
I had no involvment in the backport of the security fix, sorry

There's something that i can do? The security team are just involved on
this?

I can surely send a mail if can help... ;)))

Bug#459570: upgrading to findutils/locate loses updatedb configuration!

2008-01-07 Thread Hamish Moffatt
Package: locate
Version: 4.2.31-4
Severity: serious
Justification: Configuration changes lost

It looks like the new locate package reads
/etc/updatedb.findutils.cron.local as its configuration file now.
Configuration changes made to /etc/updatedb.conf are lost with this
package split, which is a serious bug.

It looks like the format of the files is compatible so it could be
renamed by the scripts instead.

Bug#459571: please include the TeXcount.pl script to do TeX word count

2008-01-07 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: texlive-extra-utils
Version: 2007.dfsg.1-2
Severity: wishlist

At http://folk.uio.no/einarro/Comp/texwordcount.html there is an useful
script (here is a direct URL:
http://folk.uio.no/einarro/Comp/BIN/TeXcount.pl) to do word count on TeX
documents and some other statistics.

Can you please consider including it, maybe in an examples/ or contrib/
directory somewhere?

The script itself does not have any license information, but I'm
confident the author will be happy to specify them, as the script is
already quite widespread on the net.

Many thanks in advance,
Cheers.

Bug#459576: adding pre-print marks to exported PDF does not properly offset content

Package: scribus-ng

If I export a PDF from scribus and add pre-print marks, the page
area is properly resized to accomodate the marks. However, the
content is not shifted to the right or down. See the attached files
to get the idea. This happens with crop marks as well as with bleed
