Bug#458399: jetty: Jetty depends on a java 1.5 package
On Wed, Jan 02, 2008 at 11:39:05PM +0100, Marcel Ammerlaan wrote: On Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 12:15:13AM +0100, marcel wrote: Package: jetty Version: 5.1.14-1 Severity: important The JspServlet contained in libtomcat5.5-java is compiled with Java 1.5 (class version 49.0) which will not run on a java 1.4 runtime which should be enough to run Jetty. The problem is that Jetty depends on (and uses) libtomcat5.5-java. The Tomcat source uses (among other Java5 features) generics. That is the reason wht this class file is only for Java5 and the reason why jetty in Debian needs Java5 too. This differs from the download package of Jetty which runs on older versions of Java as well. I see two options: 1) Make it clear that a java2-runtime is not enough 2) Decouple jetty from tomcat and distribute the complete jetty package instead. (maybe even conflict with tomcat? Why would you want two servlet engines on the same machine?) Unfortunately we have currently no way to tell a package that is needs Java5 or newer stuff. You are right in saying that Debian now mainly supports Java5/6 on all platforms. arm is a special case here as our main runtime (GCJ) doesnt really work there due to several problems. What about using jamvm or cacao? These support java 5 stuff too and unline GCJ they work on arm. Of course, the last alternative is to keep it as as, as only java1.5/1.6 and gcj are officially in Debian anyway. If this is the case, please feel free to close this report. I tend to keep this bug open but tag it 'wontfix'. I will need to think some days about this. Cheers, Michael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#459537: libgraphviz3: should allow dependencies to be satisfied by either of 'libgd2-xpm' or 'libgd2-noxpm'
Package: libgraphviz3 Version: 2.12-5 Severity: minor The 'libgraphviz3' package has recently gained an explicit Depends: libgd2-xpm. This renders the package uninstallable on systems where the 'libgd2-noxpm' package is installed intentionally to avoid X packages. Please set the Depends field such that it will be satisfied by either of 'libgd2-xpm' or 'libgd2-noxpm'. It may be worth noting that there is a virtual package, 'libgd2', provided by both 'libgd2-xpm' and 'libgd2-noxpm'. This may help in forming the correct Depends field. -- \Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from | `\ bad judgement. -- Frederick P. Brooks | _o__) | Ben Finney [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#458399: jetty: Jetty depends on a java 1.5 package
On Mon, Jan 07, 2008 at 09:36:45AM +1100, Greg Wilkins wrote: While Jetty can run on a 1.4 JVM, perhaps in debian it may just be simpler to build it only run with 1.5 and later. The bug reporter is a very special situation as we wants to run jetty on an arm architecture which is not supported by SUN nor by GCJ. After all, java was only really open sourced from 1.5. Java is really open sourced from 7. Java 5 and 6 are still closed source and probably ever will be. Cheers, Michael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#31352: Should be marked as wontfix?
On Mon, 07 Jan 2008, Christian Perrier wrote: Since the Debian project apparently intends to continue distributing non-free software, should this bug be marked as wontfix? The point is not even wanting to distribute non-free software or not. Even if Debian wasn't distributing non-free software (which is highly debatable), tools have no reason to blacklist repositories that do. Our priorities are our users blah blah blah. Of course, blacklisting repositories is not something acceptable. However, before closing this bug, it makes sense to verify that dselect doesn't show packages in Suggests: or Recommends: if they don't exist according to its list of packages. That way, when non-free is not used, non-free packages are not shown, which seems to be the right behaviour. Bug#459536: cmap-adobe-korea1: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update
Package: cmap-adobe-korea1 Version: N/A Severity: wishlist Tags: patch l10n Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors. If you do not already use it, you might consider using the podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages. The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA process which requires time). podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-) Example use (from your package build tree): $ podebconf-report-po This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a mail to send to these translators (you can also use the --languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in Language-Team field). You can also use this utility to request for new translations: $ podebconf-report-po --call This will send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with all the needed information and material for new translators to add new languages to your supported languages. Bug#459480: network-manager: Problem with LSB header in init.d script
[Michael Biebl] The documentation at http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts is not clear about that, but there seem to be a lot of init scripts in /etc/init.d which use $local_fs $remote_fs contrary to your proposed $remote_fs. Could you please improve the documentation in that regard so we have a consistent behaviour. I've updated the documentation on URL:http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts, and it now reads for $local_fs and $remote_fs: $local_fs all local filesystems are mounted. All scripts that write in /var/ need to depend on this, unless they already depend on $remote_fs. $remote_fs all filesystems are mounted. In some LSB run-time environments, filesystems such as /usr may be remote. If the script need a mounted /usr/, it need to depend on $remote_fs. Scripts depending on $remote_fs do not need to depend on $local_fs. Should I add more? It used to say the opposite, before I got more experience with the dependency based boot system and found out what made sense. Bug#458445: aspell-cs: missing (not)casechars in info file
MK == Miroslav Kure [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: MK You have to run `/usr/sbin/update-dictcommon-aspell` afterwards MK to regenerate MK `/var/cache/dictionaries-common/emacsen-ispell-dicts.el`. I see. After this it works as you describe, i.e. Debian ispell.el works with ISO 8859-2 buffers, but not with UTF-8 buffers. And Emacs ispell.el starts working fine in both cases with aspell. I can see that Debian ispell.el examines buffer-file-coding-system and uses it to set aspell --encoding command line option. I don't know what's the reason behind it as Emacs ispell.el simply sets it to utf-8 and it works for me, but it looks like there is some mismatch between what aspell expects on its input, the --encoding option value and the process coding systems set in Debian ispell.el. So besides the missing aspell-cs definition there must be additionally some bug in ispell.el from dictionaries-common. Bug#447172: patch for lirc source package for Makefiles modifications etc
Hi, I was fighting with lirc-modules-source last weekend. Please consider my changes to lirc source package - patch attached. Original Makefiles modification by sed I replaced with a smarter awk script. Two rules for making Makefile.in and Makefile are removed from Makefile based on `Makefile' string on left side of colon and all lines up to next rule are removed. Original sed script kills Makefile because Makefile structure changed with new version of lirc (new autoconf or automake or similar). Finally I found, that gawk is optional package (tested with gawk). I fixed regexps, that works with mawk now, witch is required package. I hope, things are correct now. [Michael Biebl] /usr/share/insserv/check-initd-order doesn't respect /etc/insserv.conf but uses hard coded facilities instead. Line 38-58. Bug#457412: [Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#457412: kmymoney2 crash when libchipcard2-data not installed
Hi Micha, Fatih, you shouldn't have closed the bug without providing any versioning information. Moreover, if it's not a bug of kmymoney2, please reassign it to the affected package (instead of simply closing it) next time. You missed the fact that libchipcard2 is still available in Etch, and needs to be fixed there because missing dependencies are of release critical severity (especially when causing segfaults). Thus I reassign the bug to libchipcard2 -- and will take care of it there. Just to be clear, i didn't missed anything. I choosed to close the bug without anything more than my 2c comments which is pretty clear: Please, submit your bug report to Ubuntu Launchpad. By the way, i took time to look if it'isn't a kmymoney bug but not more. I can understand you don't agree with my decision, anyway i would like to explain my motivation and explain it: our priority is our users. cheers, Fathi

Bug#459497: [patch] init: add should-start/stop $remote_fs to init script
[Simon Horman] I notice that the openhpid init script in Debian doesn't have any LSB tags, and in paricular no Provides: , so I have just used openhpid as the dependancy, rather than $openhpid. Is that correct? Yes, that is correct. The $ marker is only for virtual services, and the complete list of those are listed on URL:http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts. The openhpid init script should be fixed to include LSB tags. I just have not gotten around to report it to BTS. Still got ~250 scripts to report to BTS. Also, should-stop ntp appears to be missing. I'd appreciate your thoughts o whether it should be added. I suspect the ntp dependency is wasted as depending on $time is enough to make sure the clock is correctly set, and I assume it depend on ntp to make sure clocks are correct. And I further assume that it does not care when ntp stops during the shutdown sequence, and thus do not need to list it in should-stop. This is just based on my knowledge about ntp and heartbeat, and that is not much, so I might be mistake. Bug#457909: Changes + to space in URLs
Trent W. Buck wrote: I regularly use y (w3m-print-current-url) to display the URL at point in the echo area. I then use Screen's C-a [ (copy) to copy-and-paste the URL into a non-Emacs window running, say, wget. I noticed that for URLs like https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/54419 ...the +'s are replaced with spaces, resulting in a *wrong* URL. The behavior of the function in question (w3m-url-decode-string) has never changed basically since it was introduced in August, 2001. I'm not sure whether replacing +'s with spaces is wrong but I believe it is done for a user to view with the eyes, not for copying a url. The function does not only replacing +'s with spaces but also decoding characters that are represented in the hexadecimal form. In the later case, it might fail in copying a url displayed in the echo area to the other client because of non-ASCII characters. Therefore, I think the best way for you is to not decode urls that are displayed in the echo area. This way there is no other way to keep the files executable than to manually chmod them in debian/rules. If you miss this, lintian throws the script-not-executable warning. I suggest extending dh_fixperms to automatically fix the permissions for these files if the are installed into a package. Thanks, Fabian -- Dipl.-Phys. I know upstream's approach to extension loading is irrevocably broken, but it would IMHO still be nice if the page would this way detect the php5-mysql installed, but not globally enabled case. - Any chance of a bit more color for the table? :-) Overall, I think this is a reasonable thing to add to the package. Bug#456777: grub-pc: Please support installation Xen virtual block devices
Hi! This support is mainly useful because it allows the Debian installer to work in a Xen guest without Xen specific workarounds. It might also be useful for someone who wanted to switch between a guest between para-virtual and fully-virtualised (HVM) operation. Patch for grub2 is attached. Note however that the paravirtual bootloader used by Xen (pygrub) does not yet support the grub2 grub.cfg format, just the previous menu.lst format so this patch is necessary but not yet sufficient. Bug#459424: libsane: upgrade breaks system, /dev/ missies files afterwards
Please read http://lists.debian.org/debian-policy/2008/01/msg00059.html However as far as I see, the actual issue in #459424 is very different: package bar (in this context: libsane-extras) is buggy whether it is in installed state or removed state. Package foo (in this context: libsane) is not required to work around bar breakage as long as bar is not part of a stable release. Pros for LL.UTF-8: * Non-compliant implementations (I'm guessing xman, yelp, etc.) will display English manual pages rather than misencoded garbage. This might not be such a big deal for European languages, but for e.g. Japanese I suspect most people would prefer English to the spew you get by trying to interpret UTF-8 as EUC-JP. I'd rather fix the other implementations, frankly. All of Debian is moving towards UTF-8, as is all of the rest of the Linux world, and I'd rather not leave transitional measures around forever. Mm. I think I am increasingly leaning towards just using /usr/share/man/LL, seeing as man has to try decoding pages there as UTF-8 first anyway, but please comment if you care. I agree with this position. OK. I've changed man-db upstream to install its own translated manual pages in non-.UTF-8 directories again, and will incorporate this option into the transition plan when it comes time to send it to -devel-announce. Unfortunately 2.5.0 wasn't quite enough. Aside from a couple of stupid bugs (mostly fixed now), it turns out that we need an extra feature to allow debhelper to produce UTF-8 versions of manual pages without needing the source encoding to be explicitly specified, by guessing the encoding in the same way that man does: http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2007/10/msg00063.html I committed this feature to my development trunk earlier today, and will be working on a 2.5.1 release over the next couple of weeks. After that I'll send Joey a patch for debhelper. It sounds like the same feature could be used by other man implementations that currently can't deal with UTF-8. Yes; doing so would also fix their misfeatures of attempting to locate manual pages on disk themselves rather than letting man do it. :-) Cheers, -- Colin Watson [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#459424: libsane: upgrade breaks system, /dev/ missies files afterwards
Tobias Frost [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, However as far as I see, the actual issue in #459424 is very different: package bar (in this context: libsane-extras) is buggy whether it is in installed state or removed state. Package foo (in this context: libsane) is not required to work around bar breakage as long as bar is not part of a stable release. If foo insists to do it, then I think the best option is to do it in the preinst script. I'm not willing to touch a conffile from another package in the preinst, this would be an option but it's another option that's very prone to breakage. I have two ways to avoid the current breakage for people in your situation: - have libsane Depend on libsane-extras (= 1.0.18.15) - change the name of the label in the udev rules in libsane, so as to make it unique again At that time, if I was to do something about it, I'd just add the dependency to libsane. That's going to pull in libsane-extras for everybody, which is no big deal. libsane-extras is only a separate package because it's handy when it needs to be updated, not because of its size or dependencies. Option 2 is a partial fix, in that the udev rules in libsane-extras really have 2 bugs, and option 2 only works around one of them. I'd rather have them BOTH fixed. I think I'm going for option 1 later today. I'm not reopening, to let you decide how to handle the bug. As far as libsane-extras is concerned, the bug is fixed. The bug did not make it to a stable release, as it only appeared after Linux 2.6.22, and that's w after Etch's release :) JB. -- Julien BLACHE [EMAIL PROTECTED] | Debian, because code matters more Debian GNU/Linux Developer| http://www.debian.org Public key available on http://www.jblache.org - KeyID: F5D6 5169 GPG Fingerprint : 935A 79F1 C8B3 3521 FD62 7CC7 CD61 4FD7 F5D6 5169 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#459497: [patch] init: add should-start/stop $remote_fs to init script

Understood. I thought that you might have already spotted that openhpid is missing tags. But it seems like it doesn't effect the fixes for heartbeat. Thanks, I will investigate further. -- Horms -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This is certainly caused by a buggy application that is declared to the session manager but doesn’t register to it. There is a 2 minutes timeout, until which gnome-session is waiting for it to register. You need to dig in the programs launched in .gnome2/session to find out which one is buggy. Bug#458119: bugfix release
Hi, as mentioned in 411575 and 413675, pgAdmin III 1.4.x depends on wxWidgets = 2.7.x which is not yet available in debian (AFAIK). From time to time I publish unofficial packages that you can easily rebuild on your distro version/arch. Take a look at : http://www.pgadmin.org/download/debian.php I'm gonna retitle this bug and tag it as wishlist. Hi, this is a bug in dash, and will be fixed in 0.5.4-6. I'll reassign and close accordingly with the dash package upload. Thanks, Gerrit. Since dash-0.5.3-7 handles this fine and dash-0.5.4-7 has trouble with it this seems like a globbing defect in the new version of dash. I couldn't reproduce this before, but now $ mkdir /tmp/blah $ touch /tmp/blah/blah.1.blah /tmp/blah/blah.2.blah $ TEMP=/tmp/blah $ ls -l $TEMP/blah.?.blah ls: /tmp/blah/blah.?.blah: No such file or directory It's not entirely clear to me that this is incorrect; as I understand it, the order of expansion should be 1) expand $TEMP to /tmp/blah 2) filename generation on /tmp/blah/blah.?.blah 3) quote removal On the other hand, $TEMP/blah.?.blah works. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#458154: [NSLU2] ssh connection should not time out
Op 07-01-2008 om 00:12 schreef Frans Pop: snip/ However, the fact remains that _we_ have so far not been able to reproduce the issue. As I've said earlier, I've had an SSH install sitting unused for over 4 hours without the connection being lost, with basically default SSH settings both on the SSH client machine and in the installer. So the question still is _why_ ssh drops the connection in your case. AFAICT from reading the SSH documentation, the default SSH settings that are used in the installer do _not_ poll the client to see if it is still there, so it is unlikely that the server is responsible for dropping the connection. Maybe you could try running your ssh client with maximum verbosity options to see what is going on? Please tell also about the network configuration, especially the Domain Name Server setup. I suspect that due incomplete DNS configuration the installer can not reverse lookup the FQDN of the client, which results in different time-out behaviour. Please CC the according bug when reopening bugs. java.util.Arrays was introduced in Java 1.2 so its basically included in any of todays runtimes itself. There is no need for an additional dependency. Your original bug report was about the class org.apache.lucene.util.Arrays not being found. This was a class existing in early lucene releases. It was removed in lucene again and java.util.Arrays was used instead. In Debian even the lucene version in oldstable (sarge) doesnt contain the class org.apache.lucene.util.Arrays. I dont checked woody. In your original report you had the following stacktrace: Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org.apache.lucene.util.Arrays at BlosxomIndexer.indexDocs(BlosxomIndexer.java:163) at BlosxomIndexer.indexDocs(BlosxomIndexer.java:157) at BlosxomIndexer.main(BlosxomIndexer.java:111) That means that a class called BlosxomIndexer tries to use org.apache.lucene.util.Arrays (instead of java.util.Arrays). This means your copy of BlosxomIndexer was compiled a very old version of lucene. I hope that explains the situation a bit. I still think that this bug should be closed as it is no bug in Debian (and never was at least since sarge). When you agree please close this bug. Le dimanche 06 janvier 2008 à 19:58 +0100, Piotr Ożarowski a écrit : Package: python-support Version: 0.7 Severity: normal Please add a possibility to disable changes introduced in 0.7 (adding __init__.py files in empty directories) It should be disabled by default (IMHO) otherwise more bugs like #459446 will occur Let me guess: there is a templates.py containing the module, and a a templates/ subdirectory containing templates? Frankly, it is expected, when doing such horrible things, to hit horrible bugs. Python templates, in a directory available to python, that you don’t want available to the interpreter? Are upstream developers mad or what? Python directories are meant to put python packages, not tons of data and whatnot for the package, and it is a real shame there are facilities in the language to help doing such stupid things. This data should have been in /usr/share/something instead from the very beginning. Given how namespace packages are implemented, you can’t disable them on a per-package basis. What we could imagine is to ship e.g. a “.noinit” file in directories in which you don’t want __init__.py to be created. But this should be a workaround for buggy packages, not the default behavior. Would that solution be sufficient for you? Cheers, -- .''`. : :' : We are debian.org.
