Bug#463515: mysql-server-5.0: Replication relaylog corruption (fixed upstream)

Am Donnerstag, den 31.01.2008, 23:38 -0800 schrieb Brandon L Black:
I don't believe this problem affects normal single-server
mysql installations, which is why I rated it as normal,
but for people who are doing wide-area replication with
large amounts of traffic, this is a very serious problem
that we've been impatiently waiting for MySQL to fix
for a while now, and a backport into etch would be
 much appreciated.

Very simple patch, so I don't see a problem with fixing it in etch (and
of course unstable as well). I added it to my TODO list.

Bug#463400: vmware-package: generated kernel source package uses erroneous control file

  Package: vmware-package
The generated package vmware-kernel-source__all.deb has a static
control file that makes dp_builddeb in debian/rules build a new
vmware-kernel-source package. The modules are compiled but never
  included in a package.

There is a file control.modules.in that seems aimed at precisely this.
I added one line seen in the patch which fixed this particular problem.

 Hello,

Can you please send me a complete shell transcript of a faulty modules
 package build on your system?

Sure. Not that I expect the vmware-kernel-source package to allow me
to build a package with the compiled modules, not only use module
assistant. I may want to use them on another computer etc.

Second, note the invocation of emacs on rules near the beginning. What I do is
change
the line
dh_builddeb --destdir=$(DEB_DESTDIR)
to
dh_builddeb --destdir=/home/abel/test
otherwise the package-build fails with an error (inserted at the end of the
mail).
This is not the fault of this package I suppose, but it thas happen _even_ if I
set DEB_DESTDIR by for example
export DEB_DESTDIR=/home/abel/test
before invoking dpkg-builddeb.

(This is on sid/amd64 updated today. Yesterday fakeroot had some
peculiar failure modes but not today.)

Is that the entire output? So far as I can see, the warning that's
waiting for you to press RETURN is related to the distribution, not
 the version number.

 the current version number (2.10.14).
dch: Did you see that warning? Press RETURN to continue...

Using -D testing displays the version number warning but continues to
make the requested change. Indeed, the function of -b is to stop the
version warning message being sufficient to raise the Did you see
 that warning? prompt.
My fault. It shows this prompt because of
dch warning: Recognised distributions are: unstable, testing, stable,
experimental, UNRELEASED, {sarge,etch}-{volatile,backports} and
{testing,stable,oldstable}-security.

So it i'll merge this bug with #463449.

Bug#463520: statcvs should move away from contrib

2008-02-01 Thread Vincent Fourmond
Package: statcvs
Version: 1:0.3.dfsg-1
Severity: important

This bug is a reminder of what needs to be done.

In principle, statcvs does not depend on any features found in
proprietary JVMs, so it should not depend on Sun's. Unfortunately, due to
#459281 (at least, as no further testing is possible as long as this one is
not fixed), it cannot work with free JVMs.

When that is fixed, statcvs should move to main.

  Cheers,

Vincent

Bug#462243: x11-xkb-utils: calling setxkbmap crashes X server

2008-02-01 Thread André Wöbbeking
Do you happen to have a wacom device? If so, try unplugging it and
 restarting the X server.

No, but my keyboard is an USB device (Microsoft Natural Ergonomic
Keyboard 4000).

I had the same problem and it was solved when i unplugged the wacom
 volito usb device.

I wouldn't call this solved

Alternatively you may remove the wacom-related
 configuration options from xorg.conf.

Well, I did that for my keyboard and it helped. But now the server
crashes while logging out.

Your bug was http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=437066

The problem with the not working 1680x1050 resolution I had in 2.1 is
fixed in the current 2.2 branch.

Ok then, it probably has been wrongly merged/retitled. I am fixing its

Hi!

I can't reproduce it here, so if you could do the following:

study /var/log/dpkg.log for the packages you installed recently and maybe even
identify the package that provides the data that makes kbuildsycoca crash.

install kdelibs-dbg and reproduce the crash and send the debug log with that
package installed

Since this is my first maintainership it is a good idea to have some
more experienced co-maintainers. And if linpro has nothing against it i
will keep the code in the upstream svn.

Nothing against that at all, in fact I see it as a big advantage. Much
easier to branch and merge stuff from upstream releases and so on.

I'll make SVN users for Holger and Bernd, then. Any preferred usernames
or just first names?

Subject: dhcp3-client: upgrade breaks configuration file
Package: dhcp3-client

*** Please type your report below this line ***
After an upgrade to 3.1.0-2 I was asked if the new configuration
should be applied (sry, I don't remember the exact
phrase). I did choose Yes which then seemed to break my
configuration for /var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.ath0.leases.

After trying to fetch a new IP I got this error message:

Can't allocate interface atlease {

Failed to bring up ath0.

Looking into /var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.ath0.leases, I found this
additional line
interface atlease {

After removing this line I problem was fixed. Not sure if this
problem at my side or the packages. Your choice.

root-tail is your friend. There are other tools aswell, like conky.

Here is a glimpse of a command to get you started with root-tail:

top -b -u $UID | root-tail --id $(xprop --root XFCE_DESKTOP_WINDOW|cut -d\
-f5)

As you can see the only tricky part is the id of the xfdesktop window.
You can of course replace top with a ps output and so on. Btw, if the
lines are too long you can cut them through a pipe like with cut -c 1-60
for instance.

Enjoy the root-tail manual.

As to conclude, this is not a request for xfdesktop IMHO.

Thank you for your fine work! Matthias Krüger

Bug#463527: nsd3: superfluous documentation

2008-02-01 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Package: nsd3
Version: 3.0.7-2
Severity: minor

Hi Pierre,

Viewing /usr/share/doc/nsd3, I think there's quite some stuff there that
just clutters things and is not appropriate or necessary:

coding-style: documentation for developers, this may be more appropriate
for the source package.
contrib/nsd.spec.gz: RPM spec is not relevant for Debian.
difference.tex.gz: this is the source file for the already shipped

Bug#463523: program as background

root-tail is your friend. There are other tools aswell, like conky.

Here is a glimpse of a command to get you started with root-tail:

 top -b -u $UID | root-tail --id $(xprop --root XFCE_DESKTOP_WINDOW|cut
 -d\ -f5)

And that command is wrong :) It misses some bits:

top -b -u $UID | root-tail --id $(xprop --root XFCE_DESKTOP_WINDOW|cut -d\
-f5) -

The - at the end, so it takes the output of the command passed through
the pipe as the file.

Thank you for your fine work!Matthias Krüger

Bug#463525: tutorial: half black hexes on the map

2008-02-01 Thread Matthias Krüger

Playing the tutorial, there were some half black hexes (on the screen
with the units in it) at the lower border of the game (game resolution:

Maybe this bug is caused by the very small map (on bigger maps, I didn't
notice something like that) and the fact that it isn't possible to

Bug#463530: vim-tiny: default viminfo option might leak sensitive information.

2008-02-01 Thread giuseppe bonacci
Package: vim-tiny
Version: 1:7.0-122+1etch3
Severity: normal

with the default (upstream) settings for the viminfo option, vim saves the
contents of up to 50 buffers (including the unnamed buffer) in ~/.viminfo.

if one user doesn't know about the .viminfo file (which is very likely),
she can for example edit a file containing sensitive information, cut and
paste several times, then save the file, encrypt it with gpg, remove (shred)
the cleartext file, and believe her information is completely safe, while
in fact it's readable to anybody having read access to ~/.viminfo, e.g.
the superuser on her system, or someone who stole the usb key where she
backed up her home directory.

the same danger exists for other information, such as gpg and ssh private
keys, but these can be proected by a passphrase (strongly recommended).

best regards,

Your package fails to build with perl 5.10 from experimental:

I wonder, do you still have problems if you use a different last.fm

Would you mind trying one of those for a few days and reporting the

No problems with last-exit; I forgot to say in my original report.

can you try with a reduced patch like the one in my previous email to see if
Zsolt Rizsanyi is correct in his analysis? Then I will do my best to get it
committed to debian.

I would like not to break backwards compability (the full patch), if it is not

Hi,

Hi,

Your package fails to build with perl 5.10 from experimental:

Devel::Cover 0.61 has not been tested with perl 5.01.
Testing will take place against expected output from perl 5.008008.

Perhaps this should be checked with upstream.

Also, debian/rules contains the wollowing in its install-stamp taget:

  rmdir --ignore-fail-on-non-empty --parents $(TMP)/usr/share/perl5

Bug#463538: apt-get: breaks erlang-based services (ejabberd, yaws) in postinst

2008-02-01 Thread Sergei Golovan
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.7

Hi!

Looks like changes in in apt-pkg/deb/dpkgpm.h and
apt-pkg/deb/dpkgpm.cc from 0.7.6 to 0.7.7 breaks ejabberd and yaws
start from postinst scripts.

Specifically: when I run 'apt-get install ejabberd' or 'apt-get
install --reinstall ejabberd' (with apt 0.7.7 and newer) it reports:

Preconfiguring packages ...
(Reading database ... 14821 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace ejabberd 1.1.4-5 (using .../ejabberd_1.1.4-5_i386.deb) ...
Stopping jabber server: ejabberd already stopped.
Unpacking replacement ejabberd ...
Setting up ejabberd (1.1.4-5) ...
Starting jabber server: ejabberd.

Which is fine. But after apt-get finishes the work, ejabberd daemon disappears:

# ps xa|grep ejabberd
26467 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep ejabberd

Using apt 0.7.6 and older, I get the same output from apt but:

# ps xa|grep ejabberd
26499 pts/0Rl 0:01 /usr/lib/erlang/erts-5.5.5/bin/beam --
-root /usr/lib/erlang -progname erl -- -home /var/lib/ejabberd -sname
ejabberd -pa /usr/lib/ejabberd/ebin -s ejabberd -kernel inetrc
/etc/ejabberd/inetrc -ejabberd config /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg
log_path /var/log/ejabberd/ejabberd.log -sasl sasl_error_logger
{file,/var/log/ejabberd/sasl.log} -mnesia dir /var/lib/ejabberd
-noshell -noshell -noinput
26506 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep ejabberd

Which means ejabberd is running.

The same successful result I get if simply use dpkg instead of
apt-get. aptitude works similar to apt-get.

I suspect that apt doesn't like the way erlang detaches from a
controlling terminal.

When I rolled back changes in apt-pkg/deb/dpkgpm.h and
apt-pkg/deb/dpkgpm.cc apt-get 0.7.7 became working again.

You're right. I can reproduce this behavior. The problem arises if apt

Bug#463535: logout hangs with libgtk2.0-0 2.12.5-2

2008-02-01 Thread Eddy Petrișor

Package: libgtk2.0-0

Hello,

I upgraded a few days ago the following packages:

gtk2-engines-pixbuf 2.12.5-2
libgtk2.0-0 2.12.5-2
libgtk2.0-bin 2.12.5-2
libgtk2.0-common 2.12.5-2
libgtk2.0-dev 2.12.5-2

All from version 2.12.1-1

As a result of that all log out operations hang and the only
way to get out of the hang is to press the power button, triggering
the shutdown.

Switching to text consoles is not possible since there's no response
to keyboard input. I don't know if logging via ssh would be possible
since I don't have another station to test.

Bug#463547: FTBFS: uic file generated with too recent version of Qt Designer

2008-02-01 Thread Joachim Breitner
Package: wpasupplicant
Version: 0.6.1~git20071119-1

Hi,

trying to recompile the package here I get this error:

/usr/share/qt3/bin/uic wpagui.ui -o .ui/wpagui.h
uic: File generated with too recent version of Qt Designer (4.0 vs. 3.3.7)

uic is an alternative, which happens to point to /usr/bin/uic-qt3
here on my system.

The build should therefore use uic-qt4.

Greetings,

Bug#463548: libppi-xs-perl: will FTBFS with perl5.10: removes usr/share/perl5 unconditionally

Package: libppi-xs-perl
Version: 0.900-4
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: perl-5.10-transition

Hi,

Your package will fail to build with perl 5.10 from experimental as
debian/rules contains the following in its install-stamp target:
  ...
  rmdir --ignore-fail-on-non-empty --parents $(TMP)/usr/share/perl5

This will fail with perl 5.10 as the MakeMaker it supplies finaly stops
creating the spurious usr/{share,lib}/perl5 directories.

It is a bit hard to test this live as the Build-Dependencies still
Depend on perlapi-5.8.8, which pull perl 5.8 in the build environment.

Please change the removal line to

   [ ! -d $(TMP)/usr/share/perl5 ] || rmdir --ignore-fail-on-non-empty
--parents --verbose $(TMP)/usr/share/perl5

Thanks,
dam

Bug#463228: error spawning sub-processes (returning 255)

2008-02-01 Thread Milan Zamazal
Would you try the current version of crm114 in Debian (it's available in
etch-backports too)? I can see there is some bugfix about syscall in
the newer version. Just beware your .css files may or may not work
(depending on your architecture) with the new version.

Anyway it can be a problem specific to your system. I'm not sure
whether the problem is that the `syscall' call fails itself or whether
the command called by syscall fails. In the latter case you might
replace `mkdir' with a wrapper script that would log somewhere what's
happening.

Milan Zamazal

I looked at this some more, and the problem seems to be a badly formed
 Postscript file, /usr/share/doc/gcc-4.2-base/libstdc++/html_user/_form0.ps.  I
cannot display that file with gv, and running pstotext by hand produces the
same error. I don't think it is a dhelp bug, it should probably be assigned
 to libstdc++6-4.2-doc.

Ah, great! Thanks a lot for the investigation...

 Hello,
I'm running Debian Lenny 2.6.21-2-amd64, yesterday

 I apt-updated Netatalk to 2.0.3-7 from 2.0.3-4 and encountered

a problem with the start-up process of the service.

No AFPD process is created when starting netatalk.

I could se ATALKD and PAPD running but no AFPD.

Reverting to the old version of netatalk fixed the problem.

Could you please advise if you are aware of another solution?

 Thank you much.

Bug#463358: dirmngr: ldap_init() implicitly converted to pointer

On Thu, 31 Jan 2008 16:28, [EMAIL PROTECTED] said:

deprecating old functions, requiring packages to explicitly define
LDAP_DEPRECATED to use them. This seems to be a pretty common practice.

.. for OpenLDAP. We had quite a couple of breakage in the past with
OpenLDAP. Anyway I checked gpg (ldap keyservers) and there we actually
did it already:

2006-03-27 David Shaw [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* gpgkeys_ldap.c: #define LDAP_DEPRECATED for newer OpenLDAPs so
they use the regular old API that is compatible with other LDAP
libraries.

It is a pitty that this change has been made without broader
discussions. LDAP is one of the few protocols with a well defined API
which works for 15 years or even longer.

fyi, I don't have anything to do with the ldap API. I just check for
this class of build problems (which are non-ldap specific) since they
are almost guaranteed to cause pkgs to crash on certain architectures.

Right. That is the reasons why I consider dropping a prototype a Bad
Thing. If they want to force us using another API, they should require
linking to another library or use gcc's deprecated attribute. Not all
compilers spit out warnigns for missing prototypes or too many false one
so one can't expect a user to diligently look at them all.

I'll change that for Dirmngr.

Thanks,

  Werner

Your package fails to build with perl 5.10 from experimental:

Your package will fail to build with perl 5.10 from experimental as
debian/rules contains the following in its install-stamp target:

  rmdir --ignore-fail-on-non-empty --parents $(TMP)/usr/share/perl5

This will fail woth perl 5.10 as the MakeMaker it supplied finaly stops

uic: File generated with too recent version of Qt Designer (4.0 vs. 3.3.7)

uic is an alternative, which happens to point to /usr/bin/uic-qt3
 here on my system.

The build should therefore use uic-qt4.

This should be fixed in experimental already.

Thanks, Kel.

No, because it wasn't meant to be. It was merely a fortunate side effect :-)

So thanks, I marked this as

I also noticed from the Bugzilla report that the same problem exists in

Your assumption was true... if xorg complains about the synaptics module

 sure it worked completely.

what happens if you just try to run with the default options?
i.e.: comment everything except

 Section InputDevice
Driver synaptics
Identifier ALPS Touchpad
Option Protocol auto-dev
Option Device/dev/input/mouse1
Option Always Core 1
Option SHMConfig On
 EndSection

thanks for the report

Bug#462588: Fails to start slapd ldaps:/// on upgrade

2008-02-01 Thread Niccolo Rigacci
I confirm that ldpas broke after upgrade.

This is the workaround in my case:

1) Commented out TLSCipherSuite from /etc/ldap/slapd.conf so it
   picks-up the defaults.

2) Changed TLS_REQCERT from allow to never into
   /etc/ldap/ldap.conf.

The clients connect to a name which is different from the
commonName stated into the self signed certificate.

However this is strange beacuse LDAP.CONF(5) states that
TLS_REQCERT allow means:

The server certificate is requested. If no certificate is
provided, the session proceeds normally. If a bad certificate
is provided, it will be ignored and the session proceeds normally.

But the session does not proceeds normally, even if I add
a subjectAltName into the certificate.

Hi Kumar,

Thanks a lot for taking the time to NMU the pylint package. I'm
currently lacking resources to process this, and I see that you've
uploaded to the delayed queue. Could you please do an non delayed NMU
and I'll do the necessary adjustments in a few days when I get a chance
to upload a new release of pylint ?

Thanks a lot.

I disagree with the above conclusion that the bug is with
the packages, since they include proper headers. As to the
assumption that the files are obsolete, again, the packages
provide them for a good reason so, no, they are not obsolete.

Bug#426581: meshlab - anyone still working on this

2008-02-01 Thread Teemu Ikonen
On Jan 29, 2008 6:42 PM, Paolo Cignoni [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Hi to all,
 With the new release 1.1.0
i have prepared, as you requested, a tarball with (hopefully) all the
 needed sources (including vcg)
it is available at sourceforge at

 http://downloads.sourceforge.net/meshlab/MeshLabSrc_v110.tgz

Great! This makes packaging really much easier. I remade my packaging branch at
https://code.launchpad.net/meshlab to use the new release. I think the
package is now close to being good enough to upload to the archive,
the only obstacle is the obsolete lib3ds-dev in Debian. That just
requires someone to NMU it since the changes needed to build the new
version are really small, and given in a patch at bug #463108.

For people who want to test the package without using bzr, the source
package is also at
http://esko.osmas.info/~tmx/meshlab/
Remember to use version 1.3.0 of lib3ds.

In order to get the package uploaded, I would need a sponsor /
co-maintainer. Any volunteers?

As for the meshlab release, I found a couple of small issues that
should be fixed upstream (but are now patched in the Debian source):
- ui_painttoolbox.h is not created during build
- build fails due to private variable access in one of the plugins,
see attached patch

Teemu

Once untarred it should contain most of the needed libs.
The only depending stuff that should be managed by hand
is the lib3ds, for which we need the 1.3 version

I have set up a page of the documentation explaining what is needed
 and how to compile
 http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Compiling

Let me know if i can help in some way
