Bug#473668: krb5-admin-server: Revisit #428732: kadmind crashes on amd64 with minlife policies.
Edward Roper [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Package: krb5-admin-server Version: 1.4.4-7etch5 Severity: normal I hate to be a pest, and perhaps I'm overlooking something, and if so, please point me in the correct direction. This bug has been marked closed as it is fixed in: krb5/1.6.dfsg.1-1, 1.6.dfsg.1-1 Would it be possible to have a fixed package released for Etch? I was going to look at this and then completely ran out of time, after which I forgot about it. Sorry about that. :/ I unfortunately still don't have a lot of time to look, and I'm not sure that the stable release managers will take this as an update given that the feature is not generally used. But I'll put it back on my list to look at and see if I can find time to do so. Alternatively, and here is where I'm hoping you can point me in the correct direction: Is there a way to use 1.6.dfsg.1-1 on an Etch system while still tracking/obtaining security patches for this package automatically with apt without affecting the rest of the system? Unfortunately, no -- there is no backport of a fixed version on backports.org and the lenny packages depend on a newer glibc and other things that aren't present in etch. You could rebuild the lenny patches on etch probably without a great deal of difficulty, but you'd need to rebuild them yourself for any security updates (making that not horribly attractive). -- Russ Allbery ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#473651: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#473651: [samba] Add a regular backup of .tdb files
Quoting Gilles Mocellin ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Package: samba Version: 3.0.28a-1 Severity: minor --- Please enter the report below this line. --- I recently had a corrupted /var/lib/samba/winbind_idmap.tdb file. It was not cool to recover. I saw a crontab file for (/etc/cron.daily/samba) which backups the smbpasswd file. It could also make a tdbbackup of all files in /var/lib/samba and /var/cache/samba. It's harmless. Can be run online. And really helpfull in case of corruption. Well, I agree that losing Winbind's ID mapping database is certainly not cool at all. I actually expect every experienced samba admin to backup that file and some others (I'd actually recommend backing up the entire /var/lib/samba directory) but at least helping the less experienced admin could be a good idea. After all, I still remember the days when I started using winbind and was ignorant about the importance of ID mapping. Other maintainers, objections about a daily cron job for winbind to backup this file ? Package: ratbox-services Version: 1.1.2-2 Severity: important Coin, When the database link is broken (database manual restart, upgrade, network link down or slow, ...), then ratbox-services stops completely instead of retrying to connect. Bug#451226: [Build-common-hackers] Bug#451226: rules/debhelper.mk ignores changelog and docs in '.' if $(DEB_SRCDIR) is specified
Fabian Greffrath wrote: I have encountered a minor issue when including rules/debhelper.mk and having the DEB_SRCDIR variable specified: If this variable is specified and if it is not ., cdbs will ignore changelogs and docs in . and only look for them in the DEB_SRCDIR directory. I think this is a highly special case, and you are encouraged to work around it yourself. Normally, there should be one DEB_SRCDIR, and everything happens relative to it. If the files are distributed differently, it is best if you write variable assignments to tell exactly where they are. If we make cdbs look around for things outside of its assigned directories, things could go quite crazy. The case of changelogs perhaps isn't so critical, but there are analogous cases one could think of where one wouldn't want this, and then things get very inconsistent. So for the moment I suggest you write your own override. Once we get into a situation where many packages need similar overrides, then we can integrate a general solution into cdbs. Note that the c stands for common. :) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

reopen 473645 thanks Bastian Blank wrote: Because of several shortcommings in the maintainer scripts and the image loader, this currently needs an extra image, which is built. The patch v2.08 which I supplied together with [0] against Xen itself addresses precisely those issues and removes the need for an extra image, that is exactly why I wrote it and got it merged upstream. With these patches a bzImage format vmlinuz file can be booted on native and can also be understood by the Xen domain builder. I have built -486 and -686-bigmem packages with these patches and the packages work fine under both native and Xen guest. If there are further issues with using the packages in a domU then I am not aware of them -- if you point me in the right direction I will fix those too. As it stands I think there is no reason to not apply these patches -- they cause no harm or regression. If there are remaining issues those can be addressed in due course. I appreciate that dom0 support is somewhat different. It is more involved and currently needs many more patches, it is probably a good idea to keep those in a separate package for now. Ian. In most cases it simply serves as a PPD generator, also for HPLIP. Instead of the huge PPD files there is only the small and light source file, the .drv file on the system. The PPD generator /usr/lib/cups/drivers/drv generates PPDs on-the-fly then. Maybe I misunderstood: you want to revert individual options? Yes, that was the idea - just tell aptitude that from now on, I don't want to use a customization again, and that it should go back to the default, and take advantage of their evolutions. Bug#460591: Falcon P.L. license (ITP:Bug#460591)
Giancarlo Niccolai [EMAIL PROTECTED] skribis: MJ Ray wrote: [...] In general, I'm disappointed to see this licence proliferation. I am too. There isn't any single open source mainstream programming language or even compiler I know, including clisp, gcc, PHP, python, swi-prolog, ruby, harbour and xharbour (little known clipper clones OS projects I worked in), that isn't distributed under either a propetary non-reapplicable license or under a commonly known license with exceptions. IMHO, exceptions are much worse than license proliferation, as they modify a lawfully certified text and unbalance it, and their effect isn't always fully understandable by the time the exceptions are written. I disagree. Furthermore, there's nothing preventing 'lawful certification' of a licence with the exceptions. Instead here, if anyone wants to obtain such certification of Falcon PL, they've got to pay for a whole new licence to be examined, rather than an increment. I'm not convinced that the problem being guarded against here is as big an interference as it's being made out to be. It seems somewhat orthogonal to the other licence terms, if done right. [...] Nevertheless, you'll admit that starting a review with such a sentence does not suggest a constructive critic attitude towards the object of the review... It wasn't /written/ at the start of the review, if that helps. Drafting is a wonderful process, allowing bits of text to be added at the start after one has written the body. If the licence had actually brought some new benefits, instead of drawbacks, I might not be so unhappy that it's a new one. [...] Claiming any copyright over Scripts gives me the heebie-jeebies. More importantly, that seems like an obvious failure of DFSG 9 by contaminating other software. To me too. In fact, the FPLL doesn't claim any copyright on scripts. It just *defines* them to state they are *free* from possible copyright claims ( ... each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright license to reproduce, prepare ...) Well, to be *able* to give such a grant and for that to be meaningful in any way, surely the FPL is asserting it has an applicable copyright interest on the Scripts? If it wasn't claiming any copyright, its language about Scripts would be more like the GPL's description that running the Program needs no permission from the copyright holder. Did I miss a bit where the licence disclaims copyright interest in the Scripts? Anyway, this is the show-stopper. Contaminates other software. DFSG 9. It's the parts of FPL sections 1, 2 and 5 about Scripts. Clear enough? [...] More; Apache2 license states the sentence including but not limited to In legalese, this means hey, and also everything else, if we forgot to say it here. Following your reasoning, this would be quite a massive breaking of DFSG, but it is not. No, the Apache 2 licence does not talk about things which are not part of that software. [...4d...] A new obnoxious advertising clause. Probably won't break DFSG, but I don't like it for practical reasons. Which practical reason? When people put many such programs together in an operating system, the result is a serious problem. Imagine if a software system required 75 different sentences, each one naming a different author or group of authors. To advertise that, you would need a full-page ad. This might seem like extrapolation ad absurdum, but it is actual fact. NetBSD comes with a long list of different sentences, required by the various licenses for parts of the system. In a 1997 version of NetBSD, I counted 75 of these sentences. I would not be surprised if the list has grown by now. Source: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/bsd.html [...] Other than that, it differs from Apache 2.0 in missing the How to Apply appendix, which isn't serious, but seems a bit user-unfriendly. There is a commentary, which I posted here, that has the same aims of the How to apply appendix, and hopefully clarifies the license without introducing further ambiguities or hiding clauses. I didn't see it in the web page http://www.falconpl.org/?page_id=license but that site has poor accessibility anyway. http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG1 Notice that I will double-license Falcon itself as GPL/FPLL, [...] Great. Bug#472486: dnsmasq: doesn't work properly with resolvconf installed
On Mon, Mar 31, 2008 at 08:01:20PM +0100, Simon Kelley wrote: Bas Wijnen wrote: When installing dnsmasq and resolvconf, the nameserver is set to 127.0.0.1, and dnsmasq tries to use that. This obviously doesn't work. /etc/dnsmasq.conf should therefore by default set resolv-file=/var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf if resolvconf is installed, or the binary should use it as default instead of /etc/resolv.conf. Are you sure there's a problem? dnsmasq should notice that it's listening on 127.0.0.1 and not use it as an upstream nameserver, using other nameservers further down the list. Ok, that's nice, but there aren't any other nameservers in the generated /etc/resolv.conf. On an update, /etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnsmasq generates /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf. It contains what would be in /etc/resolv.conf if dnsmasq would not have been installed. /etc/resolv.conf itself is changed so it contains only 127.0.0.1, and so it cannot be used by dnsmasq to find other nameservers. So the 127.0.0.1 is intended - it's the way resolvconf works. If not, then this is probably a resolvconf problem. Well, /etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnsmasq is shipped by dnsmasq, and it creates /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf, which contains exactly what dnsmasq needs. So to me it seems that this was done so that it can be used as the resolv.conf file for dnsmasq (it also works fine when I use it as such). If not, then I don't see the point of shipping that script, as the file isn't used for anything else either AFAICS. Anyway, as I wrote there are many solutions. If you prefer adding the nameservers to /etc/resolv.conf somehow, and that works, it's fine with me. :-) Thanks, Bas -- I encourage people to send encrypted e-mail (see http://www.gnupg.org). Bug#405827: Suggestion: BSD-only version that will install with cupsys-client
* Craig Small [EMAIL PROTECTED] [080331 01:32]: It probably needs some more looking at. The difficulty with this sort of thing is you have to not make it more complicated than it needs to be. I'm not really in favour of the standard lprng package changing that much. Currently if you try to install it it removes cupsys-bsd which makes sense for most people. I think the question also is: Why should lp and lpr be different printing systems? I think this would be extremly confusing. Thus I think it is not lprng's problem, but the problem is that cups puts lp, lpstat and cancel in the wrong package. Hochachtungsvoll, Bernhard R. Bug#471104: Daylight saving for timezone Austrailia/Sydney is also wrong
Hi, More info on this bug... # cat /etc/timezone posix/Australia/Sydney # date Tue Apr 1 20:48:21 EST 2008 This is correct, however: foo.php ?php echo date_default_timezone_get(). \n; $thetime = localtime(time(), true); echo $thetime['tm_hour'] . \n; ? end foo.php # php foo.php Australia/Melbourne 19 Both wrong, so the magic isn't working. If I set date.timezone in php.ini to Australia/Sydney, it's still reporting the wrong localtime: # php ./foo.php Australia/Sydney 19 So, PHP 5.2.0-8+etch10, can't guess the right timezone if date.timezone isn't set in php.ini, but even if it is set, it still gets the localtime() wrong. In vim-keyword2 the `if' after `ls' (name of a file) is highlighted in brown (as a keyword) even outside braces, whereas the `for' after `echo' is not (in pink like a string) (echo arguments must be treated differently). $ cat vim-keyword #!/bin/sh ocamlopt -for-pack truc { ocamlopt -for-pack truc } $ cat vim-keyword2 #!/bin/sh echo for ls if 3) bash's `$' $'' is recognized as a bashism ($ is brown) but not $ ($ is pink). $ cat vim-bashstring #!/bin/bash echo $hello $'world' 4) nested command substitution The outer $() is red (indicating an error). The sample.py AI only works with python2.3 which isn't in Debian anymore (only in oldstable). So the bug will be addressed through removing of the sample.py AI from the package, unfortunately (the pending tagging message is misleading in that respect, the same bug appears with python2.5, too, unfortunately). Hopefully upstream is able to fix it, but for the time being it will be addressed through removal of the script like suggested from upstream directly - it was meant as an example only anyway and not for direct usage. Bug#473722: aptitude man pages added to regression tests for DocBook XSL stylesheets
I meant to mention in my report that I'm the maintainer of the man-page stylesheet in the DocBook XSL Stylesheets distribution, and the reason I came across the problems in the aptitude manpage.xml source is that I was in the process of adding the aptitude man-page sources to the set of sources I use for regression testing when I make updates to the manpages stylesheet. So, FWIW, I have an area for aptitude set up in the DocBook Project source repository: https://docbook.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/docbook/trunk/contrib/samples/refentry/aptitude It's just a makefile plus the patch; I run the makefile to check out the latest aptitude sources and build the docs against the changes to the manpage stylesheet in my workspace. --Mike -- Michael(tm) Smith http://people.w3.org/mike/ http://sideshowbarker.net/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Hmm. It doesn't segfault anymore either with or without the patch. Maybe it's the build options? I try a straight debuild -- without your patch, and without any CXXFLAGS, and install that package, run it... no segfault on preferences! Install the exact same version (0.4.11-3) from the Debian archive... and it segfaults on preferences! Now I am very confused. That's weird and disturbing. Unfortunately, I have no idea how the Debian package for powerpc was built, since it's compiled on an autobuilder. The only thing I can think of is that maybe it was built against an incompatible library: for instance, libsigc++-2.0 could have changed its ABI without upstream bumping the SONAME (easy to do by accident with C++ libraries). If this was the case, though, I'd expect aptitude to segfault all over, not just in the preferences screen. Hmm. Yes. Maybe that was it... BTW: when you installed your hand-built package, you're sure you were running that and not some other version? i.e., if you ran make install to install aptitude systemwide, you'll need to remove it to get it out of $PATH. Yes, I did take care of that :-) Well, umm, I guess this bug can be closed, then, even though we are not sure what the cause was? I just had a look at this issue and can not confirm what you said. Can you please come up with an exploit scenario? You are right, the directory names are predictable and there is of course a race condition between if not os.path.exists and the mkdir call. But if the name is a dangling symlink mkdir will fail because the file already exist. Did you test this? Ah, no, I did not. I just checked python's behaviour and it refused to create a directory on a symlink. I assumed that it would just follow the symlink like touch(1) does on files. I guess it is not exploitable, then. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

When i do so, no menu appears. If i reduce xrootconsole i can click outside of it (not very practical). If this worked before this was a bug in openbox. If it does not work now this is no bug. xrootconsole opens a window on top of the X root window so openbox can't get the click event on it. This should be fixed in xrootconsole if it's not intended there. I suggest you using root-tail instead which does not open a new window but draws on the root window. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Package: live-helper Version: 1.0~a41-1 Severity: high Hello, if lh_build fails at building the iso, for example because of some dependencie problems, it doesn't umount his mounted folders: mount -l after lh_build dies: devpts-live on /usr/src/rescue_cd/chroot/dev/pts type devpts (rw) proc-live on /usr/src/rescue_cd/chroot/proc type proc (rw) sysfs-live on /usr/src/rescue_cd/chroot/sys type sysfs (rw) This could cause useless mounted directories if an user don't know from them and lh_build will also fail if someone tries it again while the folders are still mounted. - -- Mit freundlichem Gruß / With kind regards, Patrick Matthäi E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFH8icr2XA5inpabMcRAjXiAJ98gQsF19er4ENt1gqt8hTtUU6UjwCgqreD EnCkZet/QccUbimaZejM9KM= =wgeH -END PGP SIGNATURE-
Bug#471378: blobwars: Segmentation fault
On Tue, 1 Apr 2008, Guus Sliepen wrote: On Mon, Mar 17, 2008 at 09:52:36PM +1100, Mark Purcell wrote: $ blobwars Segmentation fault I haven't heard a reply from you yet, and I asked Cyril Brulebois to reproduce the segmentation fault on PowerPC, but on his computer blobwars worked. Therefore I am downgrading this bug. I do hope you can produce a coredump and a backtrace so we can figure out what happens on your machine. Guus, Sorry about the delay in response. I am still having the issue with Segmentation Faults, but haven't yet been able to produce a core dump. I have created my blobwars-dbg package with symbols, but when I run with gdb, the startup 'loading' screen goes full screen and I can't control gdb any further. I haven't played around with it too much though ;-( I see there is a -fullscreen option, but no -nofullscreen, so it must be a compile time flag, if I can get that then I should be able to make some further progress. Bug#473698: apache: curl_easy_perform failed: Failed writing body
Hi Sebastian, thanks for your explanation. You can try to decrease the size of that file by decreasing the MaxClients setting of your MPM (most probably apache2-mpm-prefork or apache2-mpm-worker). It's apache 1.3 with a standard debian configuration (upgraded from sarge). So I thought it's supposed to work ;-). Reducing the MaxClients parameter (even to 20) only reduces the filesize by a few bytes. I may have to try one of the other options. Bug#472117: startupmanager: Crashes without notification on ppc
I do not quite understand what is causing the grub.cfg to not exist. The logic behind this code: for path in [self.update_grub_command, self.grub_install_command, self.config_file, self.header_config_file]: if not os.path.isfile(path): raise SystemExit('Fatal error. Can not find %s' % path) # Make sure config files are up to date os.system(self.update_grub_command) Is that it does not check for grub.cfg because it may not exist at the time, but is supposed to be created by update-grub, which is run immediately after the check. The first line of output you provided is not from sum, but it may be something that blocks update-grub from working. Try to investigate /boot/grub/device.map
Bug#473751: freeloader: Upload rate limit is not saved
Package: freeloader Version: 0.3-8 Severity: important Hi, The upload rate limit is not saved in the preference window. This is pretty anoying because the user can think he won't overload his upload-bandwith the next time thanks to the limit he set, but that won't happen: the upload rate limit will be back to 0. I think this is bug is directly related to the upload rate limit itself, because other preferences are actually kept. Bug#470977: freeradius package lumps client software with the server
This one time, at band camp, Josip Rodin said: Did you check if that's not some libtool-related problem? Well, it's libtool related, but it's not accidental. src/lib/Makefile has what they're doing - they call libtool with --release, rather than --version-info, which has subtly wierd semantics about the result. Theoretically the upstream might actually want to start shipping out one of those two as a real shared library, but wanting is one thing... I think they're not interested in API/ABI compatibility across releases, so much as having a convenience library around for the other programs in the suite. Since it does that, that's good enough for their purposes. -- - | ,''`.Stephen Gran | | : :' :[EMAIL PROTECTED] | | `. `'Debian user, admin, and developer | |`- http://www.debian.org | - signature.asc Description: Digital signature
