Bug#483494: xserver-xorg-input-wacom: problems with multiple screens
Hi Jakob, I'm forwarding this to the linuxwacom list for confirmation and discussion, but I suspect this may be related to trouble with xorg 1.4 and the rescaling ... If the latter, is there a known workaround, or is this something we are waiting on xorg 1.5 and the scaling code to be restored before it can be fixed? (CC'ing you though I suppose you're subscribed to sec. bugs in some way) Quoting Florian Weimer ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): * Christian Perrier: To security team: as I said, I'm unsure that I'll be able to work on packages for etch. I'll at least try building with that patch. As usual, I may need guidance to upload to the right place if you're OK for us to upload for etch. You should prepare an upload with distribution stable-security, urgency high, and upload it to: ftp://security-master.debian.org/pub/SecurityUploadQueue OK, that upload is ready. So is another upload of 3.0.30, for unstable, security=high. It should deal with testing-security as well as I think that the transition shouldn't be blocked by an external factor (dependency packages). I could do that for you. The problem is regression testing, which I can do only to an extremely limited extent. When it comes at samba, regression testing is *anyway* possible on an extremely limited extent. There are way too many use cases which require big infrastructures for testing (often server member of an Active Directory domain), so we mostly rely on the good communication with our upstream (as it happened for the last sec. issues which were jerky for that reason and also because upstream themselves are sometimes late wrt regression testing). What about sarge? It is affected as well (samba is 3.0.14 there) but is it still officially supported wrt security updates? sarge is officially out of support. OK. I'll confirm that in users mailing lists for samba just to be sure that some users are aware of that and don't expect packages from us. (unofficial packages could be easy to build, though) I may have very well missed that but has the official out of support for sarge been announced somewhere. It definitely was announced when etch was released, but a reminder would help our users (assuming nothing has been sent, which, as I said, I'm unsure of). -- signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#469920: Inclusion of external files in TeXMaker 1.7.1
Hi Pascal, I'm going to prepare the current TeXMaker version for Debian. While doing so I found that there is a patch for version 1.6 available that fixes a problem with file inclusion. This patch was created by Ubuntu maintainers and is available at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/texmaker/+bug/186137 I'm not sure whether this solution was forewarded to you because the current Debian maintainer seems to have lost interest in this package and has ignored this patch. When I tried to apply the patch to version 1.7.1 I noticed that you replaced the cruxial line InsertTag(\\includegraphics[scale=1]{+fi.baseName()+.+fi.completeSuffix()+} ,26,0); by InsertTag(\\includegraphics[scale=1]{+fi.completeBaseName()+.+fi.suffix()+} ,26,0); and you did so in replacing the other two occurences of fi.baseName() by fi.completeBaseName() which somehow smells like you noticed the problem yourself and fixed the problem by other means. Could you confirm that this problem is fixed in version 1.7.1? Moreover I would like you to know that there is some minor issue with your desktop file. Our policy checker lintian says: --- desktop-entry-contains-deprecated-key /usr/share/applications/texmaker.desktop:12 MiniIcon The key on this line of the desktop entry has been deprecated in the FreeDesktop specification. Refer to http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/1.0/apc.html for details. --- You might like to remove this line. BTW, you can find the Debian packaging stuff that was prepared to build packages of version 1.7.1 at svn://svn.debian.org/svn/debian-science/packages/texmaker/trunk/ Kind regards and thanks for working on TeXMaker which is very helpful for my colleagues to learn LaTeX Andreas. Bug#285590: shared libdts library
I have another question in this context: I am of course going to drop the PIC static library once we ship a shared one. How about packages in Debian that have been patched to link against libdts_pic (I have to admit I don't know which these are, though)? Should they be informed separately (i.e. bugs be filed) or is an email to -devel introducing the change enough? I mean, it's a very minor and obvious change anyway. I have also seen the counter jumping to a very high value, e.g. two hours to count down, but that happens less often. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages workrave depends on: ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.20-2 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-01.22.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-0 2.22.0-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.22.0-1 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.7-10GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.6.4-1+b1The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcairomm-1.0-1 1.6.0-1 C++ wrappers for Cairo (shared lib ii libdbus-1-31.2.1-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.74-2simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgcc11:4.3.0-3 GCC support library ii libgconf2-42.22.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libgconfmm-2.6-1c2 2.22.0-1 C++ wrappers for GConf (shared lib ii libglade2-01:2.6.2-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglademm-2.4-1c2a2.6.6-1 C++ wrappers for libglade2 (shared ii libglib2.0-0 2.16.3-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libglibmm-2.4-1c2a 2.16.2-1 C++ wrapper for the GLib toolkit ( ii libgnet2.0-0 2.0.8-1 GNet network library ii libgnome-vfsmm-2.6-1c2a2.22.0-1 C++ wrappers for GnomeVFS (shared ii libgnome2-02.20.1.1-1The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.20.1.1-1A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomecanvasmm-2.6-1c2a 2.22.0-1 C++ wrappers for libgnomecanvas2 ( ii libgnomemm-2.6-1c2 2.22.0-1 C++ wrappers for libgnome (shared ii libgnomeui-0 2.20.1.1-1The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomeuimm-2.6-1c2a 2.22.0-1 C++ wrappers for libgnomeui (share ii libgnomevfs2-0 1:2.22.0-2GNOME Virtual File System (runtime ii libgtk2.0-02.12.9-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a 1:2.12.7-1C++ wrappers for GTK+ 2.4 (shared ii libice62:1.0.4-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liborbit2 1:2.14.12-0.1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpanel-applet2-0 2.20.3-3 library for GNOME Panel applets ii libpango1.0-0 1.20.2-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpopt0 1.10-3lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsigc++-2.0-0c2a 2.0.18-2 type-safe Signal Framework for C++ ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libstdc++6 4.3.0-3 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxml22.6.32.dfsg-2 GNOME XML library ii libxmu62:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous utility library ii libxtst6 2:1.0.3-1 X11 Testing -- Resource extension ii workrave-data 1.8.5-6 Repetitive Strain Injury preventio workrave recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#439006: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Bug#483489: linux-2.6: Optional powerpc64 patches for PS3]
Hi technical comittee, .. I write to you again about this topic, to show you another case of disfunctioning of the kernel team politic regarding patches, and one i am not even involved with, so you have no excuse to ignore this issue because i am involved. Geoff Levand, who is one of the sony upstream developers of the sony PS3 linux port, recently did the work to provide a configuration file to the kernel team for adding PS3 support to our kernels, which is the first step in proper debian support on PS3, since d-i work kind of depends on this. Furthermore, he proposed two patches which seems to be important, as you can see below, and bastian blank refused them asking him to go upstream first. Well, this is not some random guy providing some patch he got from some random location, but the sony team is actively bringing those patches upstream. Furthermore, the nature of those patches, which i would consider vital for the useability of the memory starved PS3, doesn't justify not applying them. One is there to allow the PS3 to make use of the full memory of the PS3, and not be limited to 80MB, the second fixes a memory leak. It is clear that the kernel team is not able to have a rationale decision on this topic, and is blocked unthinkingly because of some send upstream first discourse who is too rigid and arrogant. If they don't have enough manpower to handle this correctly, then maybe they should not expulse people of their team without any reasonable justification, and i would gladly be handling this. So, i hope that the technical committee will have the decency and basic politeness to at least aknowledge this bug report now that it hurts others than just me, and take this very serious issue in its hand, and take a decision, as its responsabilities dictate. Sadly, Sven Luther - Forwarded message from Geoff Levand [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Subject: Bug#483489: linux-2.6: Optional powerpc64 patches for PS3 Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Wed, 28 May 2008 17:26:37 -0700 From: Geoff Levand [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.25 Severity: normal Tags: patch Attached are two patches against the debian linux-2.6-2.6.25 sources that would be nice to apply for the PS3. - debian-powerpc64-vmemmap-variable-page-size.diff This patch changes vmemmap to use a different region (region 0xf) of the address space whose page size can be dynamically configured at boot. The problem with the current approach of always using 16M pages is that it's not well suited to machines that have small amounts of memory such as small partitions on pseries, or PS3's. In fact, on the PS3, failure to allocate the 16M page backing vmmemmap tends to prevent hotplugging the HV's additional memory, thus limiting the available memory even more, from my experience down to something like 80M total, which makes it really not very useable. - debian-powerpc64-ps3-gelic-wireless-fix-memory-leak.patch This fixes the bug that the I/O buffer is not freed at the driver removal. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: powerpc (ppc64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-3-powerpc64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Add the patch powerpc-vmemmap-variable-page-size.diff to the debian linux-2.6-2.6.25 source tree. The compilation works, but generated package (aufs-modules-...) contains files from kernel (/lib/modules/kvers/modules.*, like modules.seriomap) which prevent this package to be installed along its linux-image-* package. The package first entered Debian nearly seven years ago and in that time has not seen a new upstream release. The project can be said to be feature complete, and so the lack of upstream activity is not a problem. The package is currently bug free and very easy to maintain. I have kept the package in svn since taking it over and would be glad to provide the entire svn history to whomever chooses to adopt this package. I would like to adopt your package and would like to keep it it in subversion (in the collab maint repository), so I would be interested in the svn history as well. (would still need to search through the documentation how to import that.) Many thanks for your work so far, indeed it's in a very fine condition! I generally agree that such a section would be a good idea, at least the first part (Best practices for security review and design). I'm not quite sure about the second part (System users and groups for software daemons), because it's quite long, and if we take that path, there are other things that should be documented in the same way. -- | Lucas Nussbaum | [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/ | | jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] GPG: 1024D/023B3F4F | signature.asc Description: Digital signature

It's not the only 1st pkg that puzzles me this way, so if everything looks fine on your site, there might be something with apt (apt 0.6.46.4-0.1)? in other instances I did not insist too much - thinking of repo updates going on, but in this case, being a dependency pkg, I wanted/needed to check further. Since data in Packages look consistent with the actual pkg in the repo: Filename: pool/main/r/ruby-defaults/ruby_1.8.2-1_all.deb Size: 18980 MD5sum: d739d40317177f9092dd8413e002e736 as downloaded, it seems like apt checks the pkg against some other dB and it finds inconsistencies. Bug#483172: sysv-rc: does not run all shutdown scripts
Actually, sysv-rc is behaving as intended, designed and documented. When switching from one runlevel to another, only new start scripts are executed. So, if portmap want to stop in runlevel 0 and 6 while starting in runlevels 2-5, it should install a K* symlink, not S* symlinks. On the other hand, the runlevels 0 and 6 are very special, as S* symlinks are handled as if they wyere K* symlinks. This is an argument for handling the optimizing specially as well. I believe the proper fix for this is to convert all S* style symlinks in rc0.d/ and rc6.d/ to K* style symlinks, but it will require a lot of painful coordination using the current framework. Switching to dependency based boot sequencing using insserv will solve this problem automatically. Anyway, I'll see what can be done in init.d/rc to work around this issue. Bug#483503: xmlto is confused by cross-references into an external entity.
Am Mittwoch, den 28.05.2008, 21:50 -0700 schrieb Daniel Burrows: I was just experimenting with using xmlto on the aptitude documentation. I didn't get very far. aptitude's documentation is split into a manpage and the main body of the docs. (this is for the convenience of translators -- they can just translate the manpage if they want) The manpage is incorporated into the main document via what I believe is an external entity, unless I'm getting my XML terminology wrong: !ENTITY manpage SYSTEM manpage.xml When I run xmlto on the aptitude docs, it fails and prints a bunch of validity errors like this: /home/daniel/programming/aptitude/head/doc/en/aptitude.xml:9570: element link: validity error : IDREF attribute linkend references an unknown ID cmdlineOptionSafeUpgradeNoNewInstalls The problem is, an element with that ID *does* exist, in manpage.xml. It looks like xmlto is just ignoring everything in that file when checking cross-references. In contrast, xsltproc is quite happy to handle these cross-references and generates links for them in the HTML output. xmlto is just a Bash-script, which uses xsltproc. So there error you get is thrown by libxml/libxslt/xsltproc. Can you give me the exact command you try execute? I would then try to reproduce the problem myself. But please make sure, that xmllint is happy with your files. ATM I guess, the validation fails. Also note the --skip-validation switch. Does it run with this switch? Bug#474386: Spoke too soon
I closed the bug too soon. I had forgotten that linux doesn't experiences the difficulties as predictably as 98se. Anyway the bug is still there, and is in 0.9.0 (I tried a snapshot from snapshot.debian.net). I'll see if I can get some time to do the git bisect thing this month. -- And that's my crabbing done for the day. Got it out of the way early, now I have the rest of the afternoon to sniff fragrant tea-roses or strangle cute bunnies or something. -- Michael Devore GnuPG Key Fingerprint 86 F5 81 A5 D4 2E 1F 1C http://gnupg.org No more sea shells: Daniel's Webloghttp://cshore.wordpress.com signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Bug#442361: Requesting status update info for this ITP
Hi Yann, Recently my current work is targeting a number of PEAR packages for Debian packaging. This (among others) is part of that effort. I am contacting with a request latest information, plans and progress of this packaging effort. The partial list of PEAR packages that I am looking at and that intersect with your ITP bug report entries is given below. Previously, I attempted to contact you via your email address listed on these bug reports on the 22 of May (2008). Never certain what kind of email filters others run, I am trying again through each Debian bug report entry. NOTE: I am also investigating PHP license type change. As other packages not on the list have the PHP license issue with respect to Debian packaging. Currently, much of it is centering around finding original developers in order to get appropriate permission to change the license type. Again, any status information on this ITP and on license type change you can share would be great and I look forward to hearing your news soon. Bug#437466: module-assistant: Please integrate Matthijs Kooijman's patch
Package: module-assistant Version: 0.10.8 Followup-For: Bug #437466 As I could prove with my local installation, Matthijs' fix indeed works, and allows me to run m-a -t -k `echo /lib/modules/*/build/ a-i openafs-modules to build openafs-modules for all installed kernels.
