Bug#516218: getaddrinfo not working while gethostbyname works

2009-03-18 Thread Andrew Pimlott
My DSL router also triggered this issue. I just want to add the note
that for me, getaddrinfo does occasionally return correct results,
indicating that the flakiness of the DNS server is timing dependent.
What a maddening problem to diagnose!

Bug#520113: mplayer: FTBFS: non-dynamic relocations refer to dynamic symbol free@@GLIBC_2.0

2009-03-18 Thread Reinhard Tartler
[CC'ing Diego as upstream build system maintainer]

Adeodato Simó d...@net.com.org.es writes:

 * A Mennucc [Tue, 17 Mar 2009 22:36:19 +0100]:

I am puzzled... how come that this happens only on MIPS?

I don’t know, really. Aurelien Jarno offered his assitance to try to
reproduce the problem, though he’s busy and may take a bit until he gets
 around to it.

we had a similar problem with ffmpeg on mips, which was fixed in
0.svn20080206-13. From the changelog entry:

   [Thiemo Seufer]
   * compile shared libavcodec explicitly with $(PIC), since gcc-4.3
mips/mipsel needs an explicit PIC flag for shared library
 code.
 .
Until gcc-4.2 Linux/MIPS always used PIC code, even for executables.
This changed with gcc-4.3, and with it the compiler default changed
to non-PIC. As a result, -fPIC now needs to be explicitly supplied
 for shared library builds.
 .
 (Closes: #498216, 498647, 498397)

Maybe there is a similar problem in mplayer's configure script? The fix
was after all in ffmpeg's configure script, which is reimplemented in
mplayer.

But TBH, I currently have the fear that the problem could be one of our
patches that we carry, namely 30link-system-ffmpeg.patch. At least that
patch has a direct effect on the gcc call that is failing.

Could some of the mips porters please try to build the mplayer package
with that patch disabled, and send the buildlog to this bug? This will
result in not using the system ffmpeg but the internal copy. But this
would at least verify if the patch is buggy or not.

Well, I didn't say it wasn't clear, but do you think that somebody

I don't know if you can fix it but everyone which has a palm can verify

 Thanks, enough for now.

Maybe it's obvious to you, but without having the hardware myself to

If you don't have the hardware it will be hard to test it effectively! You
need almost the contact pdb file but I don't know how to provide a sample
  to you.

Yep, this is true, it will be hard, but you have it, and mail too, not
 impossible ;-)

Yes but it contains very personal data which are not shareable.

I was referring to the hardware, no intention you have to disclose
your data, just you could make tests and mail me the result back
wether it went right or wrong, but not the data :-)

Just for fun: have you tested with claws-mail (which supposedly also
supports jpilot) and see what happens?

No, I don't try with claws-mail. I'll try it as soon as possible.

Thanks! We'll see if it's just a sylpheed bug or maybe something worse
(I believe both use the same library to access jpilot: libpisock9).

Bug#520202: samba: compile failes with error ctdb_private.h is required for cluster support

2009-03-18 Thread firey_octane
Package: samba
Version: 2:3.3.1-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: no longer builds from source

Hi,
Package samba/2:3.2.5-4 released in Debian r5.0/lenny contains bug 495081
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=495081) upstream bug 5826
that was fixed in package samba/2:3.3.0-1. This bug introduces a serious
backwards compatibility problems with Samba 3.x clients and 2.0.x servers which
exist in number in the field (including NAS, PDAs such as Zaurii and embedded
devices).

Upgrading to the testing (squeeze) version of the package, version 2:3.3.1-1,
by building of source fails. This is because although samba sources depend on
the ctdb library which both lenny and squeeze provide, the configure script of
version 2:3.3.1-1 package does not detect the ctdb_private.h header included in
the 1.0.47+git20080748-1 (lenny) version of the package. Upgrading the
ctdb package to the 1.0.73-1 version (squeeze) resolves the problem.

The proposed patch adds this constraint upon testing's dependencies lest a
modification of the configure script be seen as a better solution.

Regards,
firey_octane

Bug#520205: libsoup2.4-1: shlibs should be bumped

2009-03-18 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: libsoup2.4-1
Version: 2.25.91-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

When trying to use experimental webkit, I get the following message:
/usr/lib/webkit-1.0/libexec/GtkLauncher: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/libwebkit-1.0.so.2: undefined symbol: soup_session_get_feature

It appears the libwebkit package doesn't get a proper versioned dependency on
libsoup because the shlibs were not bumped in the experimental package.

Cheers,

Mike

Bonus points if you add a symbols file ;)

It's possible. So what do we do now? Do you want me to send you the .ttf file
from the sources to see if that is broken too? I can't really see how I'd be
breaking the file by installing it...

I've checked the ttf file in the source package and it't fine; I've rebuilt the
package
from the sources and the ttf file contained in the resulting deb package is
fine.

Downloaded the deb from [1] and the file is fine...
Need to check the deb on my home pc and see what's wrong
with it: I'm sure I've downloaded it least in two different
sessions of my tests and got the error during both.

Will let you know as soon as I can.

same goes for gstreamer-based players.

Please note that the licensing informations is stored in the copyright
file and mentioning the license for packages in the main pool is not
needed - they have to be free software anyway.

Bug#520218: lastfmproxy: INTERNALERROR after loving a track

2009-03-18 Thread Sebastian Niehaus
Package: lastfmproxy
Version: 1.3b-1
Severity: important

If I listen to music and click Love I see for a moment
Loving ... in the grey statusbar on top of the web page
immediately changing to INTERNALERROR.

What happens in the log file at this very moment:

,[ /var/log/lastfmproxy/lastfmproxy.log ]
| (urk? ['!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC -//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN'] )
| (urk? ['HTMLHEAD'] )
| (urk? ['TITLE404 Not Found/TITLE'] )
| (urk? ['/HEADBODY'] )
| (urk? ['H1Not Found/H1'] )
| (urk? ['The requested URL /radio/control.php was not found on this
server.P'] )
| Too many errors parsing response.
| [Wed Mar 18 09:10:07 2009]: hmm? {}
`

Banning a track shows the same behaviour:

,[ /var/log/lastfmproxy/lastfmproxy.log ]
| (urk? ['!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC -//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN'] )
| (urk? ['HTMLHEAD'] )
| (urk? ['TITLE404 Not Found/TITLE'] )
| (urk? ['/HEADBODY'] )
| (urk? ['H1Not Found/H1'] )
| (urk? ['The requested URL /radio/control.php was not found on this
server.P'] )
| Too many errors parsing response.
| [Wed Mar 18 09:15:04 2009]: hmm? {}
`

However, the last.fm servers send back a new track so I suppose my
intention ist somehow transmitted to lastfm although lastfmproxy
shows that specific error. In the lastfm player, the banned track ist
*not* shown, so I think the transmission is far from perfect.

I just looked in my profile on the lastfm website: Love is not
registered too ...

I use iceweasel to access the web interface of lastfmproxy.

Thanks,

Sebastian

Bug#520217: libextlib-ruby: long description misses full stops

2009-03-18 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Package: libdata-validate-email-perl
Version: 0.04-1
Severity: minor

Hi!

Quite some new perl module packaged came over to testing today - and I
see a lack of sentense ending fullstops in quite some of them. I noticed
that they all are maintained by the perl group and hope I can get away
with a single bugreport about it. ;)

These are the packages that hit my attention (just space seperated for
easier direct copypaste ;)):
libdata-validate-email-perl libgstreamer-interfaces-perl
liblwp-online-perl libstring-bufferstack-perl libtest-output-perl
libvariable-magic-perl libxml-bare-perl

The description of libmath-calc-units-perl is special: It ends in a
colon, leaving the impression that there is something missing.

I know that this is really just some nitpicking, but I still hope you
appreciate the feedback. Hi, Gregor! :)

Bug#512463: netrek-client-cow-3.2.10 released

2009-03-18 Thread James Cameron
netrek-client-cow 3.2.10 was released, fixing the %c macro directive,
and preventing the a key from causing immediate quit (closes LP
bug #331395).

This version also adds installation and native sound support for the SGI
IRIX operating system.

Technical changes include removal of CVS details, fixing the location
for the key file on a make install, adding a distributed bug tracking
directory using ditz, remove most compilation warnings, and fix missing
prototypes (closes Debian bug #512463).

Internationalisation support has also been started, but no translations
are yet available, and most messages are not marked. More work is
needed.

Please do so then. Do you need a source package that mentions you as

 Loic is mentioned there.

That's not necessary, I'll just sponsor the upload this time.

The package is is my repository at

ObexFTP-0.23 will follow that version some time after 0.22 is uploaded.

Note that 0.22 apparently builds new binary packages (ruby bindings
etc.) so will likely take a while to pass through NEW, which is slow
currently.

I tried to build it, but got this error:

Bug#520221: In the GRUB menu, single-user mode is misleading (and so is recovery mode)

2009-03-18 Thread Fabian Greffrath

Package: grub
Version: 0.97-47lenny2
Severity: minor

Hi,

in the GRUB menu there is the choice of two options for each installed
kernel, one of them is the so called single-user mode. I believe
this lable is misleading, because it does not actually describe what
will happen if I choose this option -- i.e. single-user is only half
the truth, it doesn't tell there will be no X11, no cups, no
network-manager, etc.

I am afraid that unexperienced users feel tempted to boot into
single-user mode, because that's what they believe is what they
want. They only want to write some letter and check emails, no need
for further users on the system You got the point?

To describe what hides behind this option something like root
console comes to my mind (although this is still cryptic to the
unexperienced user). In the grub2 packages the label has been changed
to recovery mode which is at least better than single-user mode
but still not perfect, because it also does not really describe what
hides behind this option.

What do you think?

Cheers,
Fabian

If Freetype is built without subpixel rendering, we should use
the Qt 3 intrapixel filter instead of the bitmap convolution
when the Legacy LCD filter is chosen. (Closes: #448555)

It uses the old hinting mechanism and looks somewhat better, but subpixel
rendering is off. This is still worse than qt3.

(left - qt3, right - qt4)

It is even a bit worse here. The general appearence of the font is nice,
but the fringing is not. See

and
http://alioth.debian.org/~trigger-guest/color-fringing2-with-qt4.5-2.png

Compared to what we have now I like blurred fonts we had with -1 much
better.

Greetings,
Armin

PS: No need to CC me. Just in case anyone wonders...

Are you sure that's related to this patch? Qt also added some patches in
4.5 to more closely respect the Fontconfig hinting settings. Could you
try switching between Slight, Medium, and Full hinting in your
Appearance settings? Previous to 4.5 Qt would always do full hinting if
subpixel antialiasing was enabled.

Samuel

Bug#520224: python-pycha: built against experimental python-support, but in unstable

2009-03-18 Thread Chris Lawrence
Package: python-pycha
Version: 0.4.2-1
Severity: important

The version of python-pycha recently uploaded to unstable will no
longer install on unstable, as it was apparently built with the
version of python-support from experimental (probably because you were
testing the fix for #516901 with python-support 0.90.x and didn't
downgrade back to the unstable version after testing). I'd imagine
simply reverting to 0.8.7 from unstable and rebuilding will fix this
problem.

Thanks!

Bug#393606: [mail-notification-evolution] Evolution 2.24 transition is tricky

2009-03-18 Thread Michel Dänzer

Note that just rebuilding against evolution-dev 2.24 makes the plugin
load but crash Evolution on startup. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/mail-notification/+bug/251031 (the Ubuntu
package referenced there has an extended patch which doesn't require a
newer gob2).

Moreover, while that patch fixes the crash, updates to the monitored
Evolution mailboxes no longer seem to be noticed properly. I think
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mail-notification/+bug/292482
is about this, but I haven't found any fix for this yet. Adding -Wall to
the build doesn't give any warnings in the Evolution related code
either.

Bug#520223: claws-mail: segfaults when editing a group of e-mail addresses in address book

2009-03-18 Thread Uroš Golja
Package: claws-mail
Version: 3.7.1-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

claws-mail segfaults on me while editing a group of e-mail addresses in its
address
book. The crash happens most of the time but not always. I'd reckon about 9
times
out of 10. It happens with my existing address group and with a newly created
address group. I've looked for similiar bugs upstream but haven't found any. I'm
pretty sure this would affect other users too so I'm guessing it could be a
packaging issue? Is anyone else having the same problem?

Best regards!

Bug#448555: fixed in qt4-x11 4.5.0-2

2009-03-18 Thread Samuel Rødal

M G Berberich wrote:

I don't know what the patch should do and where the problem lies, but
on two Debian machines I tested the qt 4.5.0-2 packages effectivly
disable subpixel-rendering. This looks much better than the uglified
glyphs from 4.5.0-1 but still is not the desired result.

I'm assume there is (still) a bug in the patch, probably somewhere
around the call to convertRGBToARGB and the legacyFilter boolean.

Could you try manually reverting the patch to see if the problem still
exists? Alternatively you could comment out this line:

useLegacyLcdFilter = (lcdFilterType == FT_LCD_FILTER_LEGACY);

which should make the patch void as it should always use the old
convoluteBitmap() approach.

Assumption: perhaps we here have three different libraries trying to
work around FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING = false, namely
GTK/pango, kde3 and kde4, and in the past it worked because they all
did something similar.

Yes, it's a pity that each toolkit tries to do subpixel rendering in its
own way at the moment. Though even on Ubuntu (which enables
FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING by default) there are differences
between Qt and GTK's font rendering. I assume it's because of different
interpretations of the Fontconfig settings (GTK seems to switch legacy
LCD filtering off when full hinting is enabled).

Cheers,
Samuel

Bug#520225: libsane and Brother MFC-215C

2009-03-18 Thread isahib
Package: libsane
Version: 1.0.19-26
Severity: important
Tags: patch

The multi-function Brother MFC-215C works well with Debian
Etch/Lenny/Squeeze.

However I manually have to add the following line to z60_libsane.rules
to get the scanner working:

#Brother MFC215C
SYSFS{idVendor}==04f9,SYSFS{idProduct}==0193,MODE=666,GROUP=scanner

I have tried to email this to the Sane mailing list but no luck.

Everytime z60_libsane.rules gets updated it wipes out my settings (after
confirming though).

Can you please add my scanner to the rules file.

 Salut Arnaud,

hello James,

I'm so sorry. I've completly forgotten that one :(
if you see me MIA, ping me directly... I'm on far too many things, and it
happens that I miss or forget something. I'm also a human after all ;-)

Your package failed to build on Ubuntu, since libupsclient moved to
 /lib.

uh, right.

Rather than trying to tackle the configure macros that it used I
 switched it to pkg-config.

The attached patch is a little large though, sorry, as I had to run
aclocal and autoconf for that change. Then when you build that it
sometimes fails as it tries to re-run automake and autoheader. So
 I added AM_MAINTAINER_MODE and called ./configure with
--disable-maintainer-mode to avoid that. This involved re-running
automake though, so the diff is even larger.

wmnut still aims to be the bare X11 NUT app, and many systems still don't
ship pkg-config, at least not by default. so upstreamly speaking, I'll
rewritte the configure.ac but using both the pkg-config + nut-config to
address all use cases.

but to meat everybody's timeframe, I'll first make a 0.62-4 with a minimal
patch based on yours.
I'll then log an LP bug for requesting the Debian sync.

thanks and apologies again, I owe you a beer (maybe in Barça ;-)

cheers,
Arnaud

I think I found where the bug is: reading
 http://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2008-06/msg00280.html
it seems that MIPS has problems linking together PIC and non-PIC code

so we need to compile the whole of MPlayer with -fPIC

I looked into FFMpeg buildlog, and ffplay.c is compiled with -fPIC

Let's rephrase that: every time there's a change to the udev rules

Can you please add my scanner to the rules file.

If it's supported by a backend included in libsane, sure. If not, it
doesn't belong to the rules shipped with libsane.

Bug#520230: sonicvisualer: Please package sonic visualiser for Debian

2009-03-18 Thread rosea
Package: sonicvisualer
Severity: wishlist

Please package sonic visualiser for debian

http://www.sonicvisualiser.org/

Sonic Visualiser contains features for the following:

* Load audio files in WAV, Ogg and MP3 formats, and view their waveforms.
* Look at audio visualisations such as spectrogram views, with interactive
adjustment of display parameters.
* Annotate audio data by adding labelled time points and defining segments,
point values and curves.
* Overlay annotations on top of one another with aligned scales, and
overlay annotations on top of waveform or spectrogram views.
* View the same data at multiple time resolutions simultaneously (for
close-up and overview).
* Run feature-extraction plugins to calculate annotations automatically,
using algorithms such as beat trackers, pitch detectors and so on.
* Import annotation layers from various text file formats.
* Import note data from MIDI files, view it alongside other frequency
scales, and play it with the original audio.
* Play back the audio plus synthesised annotations, taking care to
synchronise playback with display.
* Select areas of interest, optionally snapping to nearby feature
locations, and audition individual and comparative selections in seamless loops.
* Time-stretch playback, slowing right down or speeding up to a tiny
fraction or huge multiple of the original speed while retaining a synchronised
display.
* Export audio regions and annotation layers to external files.

The design goals for Sonic Visualiser are:

* To provide the best available core waveform and spectrogram audio
visualisations for use with substantial files of music audio data.
* To facilitate ready comparisons between different kinds of data, for
example by making it easy to overlay one set of data on another, or display the
same data in more than one way at the same time.
* To be straightforward. The user interface should be simpler to learn and
to explain than the internal data structures. In this respect, Sonic Visualiser
aims to resemble a consumer audio application.
* To be responsive, slick, and enjoyable. Even if you have to wait for your
results to be calculated, you should be able to do something else with the
audio data while you wait. Sonic Visualiser is pervasively multithreaded, loves
multiprocessor and multicore systems, and can make good use of fast processors
with plenty of memory.
* To handle large data sets. The work Sonic Visualiser does is
intrinsically processor-hungry and (often) memory-hungry, but the aim is to
allow you to work with long audio files on machines with modest CPU and memory
where reasonable. (Disk space is another matter. Sonic Visualiser eats that.)

Bug#496718: vpnc: Disconnects after an hour and loops trying to reconnect

2009-03-18 Thread Geoff Clare
After upgrading to lenny, I have the same problem. Looks like
it is a rekeying problem.

Previously I was running a backport of 0.5.1r275-1 on etch, and this
did not have the problem. I still had that .deb so I downgraded vpnc
by installing it with dpkg, and the problem has gone away.

This narrows down the breakage to sometime after r275.

Bug#520232: linux-image-2.6.28-1-amd64: have to load pcspkr to disable the pc speaker

2009-03-18 Thread Felipe Sateler
Package: linux-image-2.6.28-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.28-1
Severity: normal

Upgrading from 2.6.26 to 2.6.28 the pc speaker started doing annoying
beeps when eg, tab-completing. To avoid this I used to blacklist pcspkr,
but now it seems I have to load it.
In summary: pc speaker on when the pcspkr module unloaded, off when the
module is loaded.

Hmmm, you mean which release and which version?

When texlive-base-bin or texlive-base is installed in both cases
fmtutil-sys --all
is called. That should also rebuild the jadetex stuff, right?

Best wishes

Bug#520233: lv2: Please package LV2 and LV2 plugins for Debian

2009-03-18 Thread rosea
Package: lv2
Severity: wishlist

http://lv2plug.in/

LV2 is a standard for plugins and matching host applications, mainly targeted
at audio processing and generation.

LV2 is a simple but extensible successor of LADSPA, intended to address the
limitations of LADSPA which many applications have outgrown.
Why LV2?

While LADSPA has been quite successful with many plugins and hosts, it is quite
limited and can't be extended without breaking existing implementations. LV2 in
contrast is designed with extensibility in mind right from start.

http://freeverb3.sourceforge.net/

Freeverb3 is a sound processing library which includes sampling rate scaling
enabled version of freeverb with some fixes, extended implemantation of N
Reverb by CCRMA, implementation of impulse response convolution reverb, FIR
filter constructor, band splitter and compressor. This library's oversampling
feature will provide high quality of audio processing. The convolution reverb
is highly optimized for x86 processors using hand written codes of 3DNow!/SSE
for single precision and SSE2 for double precision, which can be used for zero
latency realtime sound effect processing.

It's either a VLC bug or a libxml2 = 2.7.3 bug depending who you listen to.

Anyway it's fixed in both branch of vlc at the expense of a memory leak.

Bug#520240: Some KDE packages depend on an old kdebase-data

2009-03-18 Thread Michael Buesch
Subject: Some KDE packages depend on an old kdebase-data
Package: kdebase-data
Version: 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Some KDE packages like kcontrol, kdm or kicker (maybe more) depend on an old
version of kdebase-data on the PowerPC architecture. It looks like other arches
are affected, too. x86(64) doesn't seem to be affected.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  kcontrol: Depends: kdebase-data ( 4:3.5.9.dfsg.2) but 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1 is
installed
kdm: Depends: kdebase-data ( 4:3.5.9.dfsg.2) but 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1 is
installed
  kicker: Depends: kdebase-data ( 4:3.5.9.dfsg.2) but 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-1 is
installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

This causes an apt-get dist-upgrade to render KDE unusable (won't start KDM
anymore). A temporary workaround it to install kcontrol, kdm, kicker, konqueror
and its dependencies manually with dpkg forced install.

Bug#520239: Please package whysynth dssi plugin for Debian

2009-03-18 Thread rosea
Package: whysynth
Version: 20070418+b1
Severity: wishlist

http://www.smbolton.com/whysynth.html

WhySynth is a versatile softsynth which operates as a plugin for the
Disposable Soft Synth Interface (DSSI). A brief list of features:

- 4 oscillators, 2 filters, 3 LFOs, and 5 envelope generators per
voice.

- 10 oscillator modes: minBLEP, wavecycle, asynchronous granular,
three FM modes, waveshaper, noise, PADsynth, and phase
distortion.

- 6 filter modes.

- flexible modulation and mixdown options.

DSSI is a plugin API for software instruments (soft synths) with
user interfaces, permitting them to be hosted in-process by audio
applications. More information on DSSI can be found at:

  http://dssi.sourceforge.net/

WhySynth is something of a mongrel, combining bits from Xsynth-DSSI,
hexter, Csound, Mats Olsson's MSS, and various other programs, with
inspiration from a number of my favorite long-hair-days synths
(Matrix 6, ESQ-1, K4), and wavecycle data resynthesized from Claude
Kaber's Virtual K4 samples and //christian's exegesis of the Ensoniq
SQ-80 wavetable ROMs. See the enclosed file AUTHORS for more
details.

WhySynth is written by Sean Bolton, and copyright (c) 2008 under the
GNU General Public License, version 2 or later. See here for
details. While this software is 'free' within the requirements of
this license,

Bug#520110: new upstream release

2009-03-18 Thread Frank Oosterhuis

Got some new info of the upstream maintainer.

A couple of new versions are waiting in the CVS tree.
Since 1.15 a new message type 'chat' has been introduced. This
'chat'-type is default since 1.16.

Current 1.18 has a couple of other fixes aswell.

Would be nice to see this in unstable or testing.

Bug#520241: Please package dssi-vst for Debian

2009-03-18 Thread rosea
Package: dssi-vst
Version: 0.8-1
Severity: wishlist

http://breakfastquay.com/dssi-vst/

dssi-vst is an adapter that allows users of Linux audio software to take VST
and VSTi audio effects and instrument plugins compiled for Windows, and load
them into native LADSPA or DSSI plugin hosts. Plugins run at full speed for
most audio processing, although their user interfaces are slower because of the
Windows emulation.

dssi-vst can also be used to run 32-bit Windows VST plugins in a 64-bit Linux
host.

dssi-vst requires Wine libraries for Windows compatibility, and is therefore
best obtained directly from a Linux distribution repository that can provide
all of the required libraries at the time of installation. Installing dssi-vst
without a distribution package can be quite tricky to do.

dssi-vst is free, open source software written by Chris Cannam. It is
distributed under the GNU General Public License, with a special exception to
permit redistributing it in binary form when built with the non-free Steinberg
VST SDK. (The default build does not use the non-free SDK, and so is completely
GPL.) No proprietary license is available.

Bug#520215: ghostscript tarball may include the upstream fonts

2009-03-18 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Excerpts from Fabian Greffrath's message of ons mar 18 09:12:10 +0100 2009:
since upstream version 8.63 the fonts in the Resource/Font directory
are properly licensed under the GPL, so it is not necessary to remove
them anymore. I don't know if they are already identical to the ones
shipped in the Debian gsfonts package, though.

Thanks for spotting this.

Even if packaging the fonts in a binary package is superfluous we
certainly should not strip it from the source when legal to distribute.

Hmm indeed i might have jump to the conclusion a bit fast. But the
backtrace provided by Adrian is very similar to the ones we have seen
upstream when we debugged this problem.
The problem is that if any modules called when displaying the subs
call libxml2 or a lib calling libxml2 it will crash. I was thinking
the culprit here would be libfontconfig but it uses libexpat for xml.

Yves-Alexis, could you try your srt without the Qt interface? like

Bug#517183: irqbalance update in stable?

2009-03-18 Thread Peter Palfrader
Hi Kyle,

#517183 segv on startup makes irqbalance completely broken on our

There has been a patch in the BTS for a bit over 10 days now, yet it
is still unresolved in sid (0.55-3 does not fix it despite the changelog
entry) and also in lenny.

I would like to see this issue get resolved in lenny, tho we are getting
pretty late for lenny r1.

What's the plan here?

Bug#520249: dpkg multiple --status-fd does not work

2009-03-18 Thread Markku Savela

Package: dpkg
Version: 1.14.20ubuntu6.1

When I use multiple --status-fd definitions, only the last listed is
effective.

For simple test do:

dpkg --status-fd 1 --status-fd 1 ...

This should give multiple copies of status messages, but only gives
one.

I suspect that the 'src/main.c' function setpipe is broken. I don't
know what it tries to do... but, it doesn't work. A better working
code might be

  ...
  if (!lastpipe)
lastpipe = cip-parg;

Bug#520227: P-a-s: please enable hdapsd on powerpc

2009-03-18 Thread Evgeni Golov
Package: buildd.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

currently hdapsd is i386amd64 only as it works only on IBM laptops.
With the next release (which I will do soon), it will also support Apple
iBooks and PowerBooks of the G4 generation (those which have the AMS sensor).
Thus please change:
hdapsd: i386 amd64# IBM
laptop specific
to:
hdapsd: i386 amd64 powerpc#
IBM/Apple laptop specific

TIA
Evgeni Golov

This change came in to testing today and I immediately tried it
however it still says that SMP has been disabled at compile time in

Any idea why this might be on this x86-64 box?

It's either a VLC bug or a libxml2 = 2.7.3 bug depending who you listen to.

Anyway it's fixed in both branch of vlc at the expense of a memory leak.

 See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=571409 and
 https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/2541

Hmhm, what's weird is that it only appears with a subtitle file, which
has nothing to do with xml or the playlist, has it?

Bug#520251: pbuilder: Pbuilder does not umount bindmounts when ssh connection dies

2009-03-18 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Package: pbuilder
Version: 0.181
Severity: important

When pbuilder is executed over ssh and the ssh connection dies, it won't
umount bind mounts and won't clean up the build dir. Unfortunately,
cowbuilder WILL cleanup the build dir, wiping all bind mounts. The
execution order is like this:

ssh - sudo - cowbuilder - pbuilder

Because of the sudo, the SIGHUP will not be delivered to pbuilder.
However, pbuilder will get SIGPIPE when writing to stdout or stderr.
In addition, even when SIGPIPE is ignored, a write to stdout will give
EPIPE, which causes echo to return with an error.

Therefore, you

- need to catch sigpipe in addition to sighup
- need to ignore sigpipe and sighup in the cleanup handler
- need to set +x in the cleanup handler to avoid exiting just
  because echo returns an error.

The attached patch works for me but I have only edited
pbuilder-buildpackage and not the other commands.

Bug#520246: php5-common: libxml2 2.7.3.dfsg-1 causes tags and entity references in entities to be not parsed

2009-03-18 Thread Виталий Филиппов

Package: php5-common

Description:
When using PHP's internal xml parser (xml_parser_create) linked to libxml2,
standard entity references (lt;, gt;, apos;, quot;, amp;) are
all cut off and not passed to character_data_handler.

All is good with libxml2 2.6.32.dfsg-5. Instead, this is caused by voodoo code

xml_set_character_data_handler($parser, 'cdata');

Bug#520243: poppassd should depend on (or recommend?) inet-superserver

2009-03-18 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: poppassd
Version: 1.8.5-3.2
Severity: important

poppassd requires an inetd server to work. So it should depend on the
virtual inet-superserver package.

If poppassd in some cornercases is usable even without inetd (though I
cannot imagine what that would be), then it should instead recommend
inet-superserver.

Kind regards,

 - Jonas

Bug#515735: mirror submission for debian.mirror.cambrium.nl

2009-03-18 Thread Johan Mulder
On Saturday 7 March 2009 13:31:40 Simon Paillard wrote:
Is there a reason we should know to not use ftp.nl.debian.org ?
Indeed, ftp.nl.d.o is a very good mirror, with a better availability
   than mirrors.kernel.org.

Yes. ftp.nl.debian.org is *very* slow compared to mirrors.kernel.org. The
  rsync processes timeout quite often.

Maybe investigate if you have some time, because the cause explaining
bad speed between you and ftp.nl.d.o may imply bad speed between your
mirror and Debian users somewhere in NL.

It looked like overload on ftp.nl. We have lots of bandwidth available, so
that wouldn't seem like a problem to me. The box itsself has a gigabit link
with less than 100 Mbit usage on average. We have a 30 gbit amsix connection,
10 gbit Deutsche Telekom transit and 10 gbit Tata telecom (aka Teleglobe)
transit. Additionally, we have one gigabit of backup transit if all else
fails.

Updates: twice

You may setup push mirroring in order to get maximum freshness :
   http://debian.org/mirrors/push_mirroring

Ok, I'll fix that tomorrow :)

DO you have news about the push mirroring setup ?

I have replaced anonftpsync with ftpsync. However, how do I tell a push mirror
that it should tell our mirror box to start mirroring?

 BTW, you can safely remove
 http://debian.mirror.cambrium.nl/debian-non-US/ which is deprecated for
 a long time.

As anonftpsync isn't used anymore, I guess this is automatically fixed now :)

PS. My apologies for not getting back to you earlier. I've been very busy the
last 2 weeks and now have time available to fix up everything. Usually we
have 2 admins maintaining the mirror(s), but the other one was unavailable
for some time.

2009-03-18 Thread Taisuke Yamada
Hi Aurelien,

I noticed gdb-m68hc1x Debian package is an orphan, and
also noticed you were the former maintainer of the package.

I'm going to propose for an adpotion, and I thought if you
could sponsor me just like gputils package. Could you be
my sponsor for this package also?

I still have many HCS12s around and I actually have more updated
code for this since I recently merged target code for TBDML pod.
I'm planning to submit a patch to upstream, but I'd also like to
have updated binary included in Debian.

Best Regards,
Taisuke Yamada
