Bug#516218: getaddrinfo not working while gethostbyname works
My DSL router also triggered this issue. I just want to add the note that for me, getaddrinfo does occasionally return correct results, indicating that the flakiness of the DNS server is timing dependent. What a maddening problem to diagnose! Andrew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#520113: mplayer: FTBFS: non-dynamic relocations refer to dynamic symbol free@@GLIBC_2.0
[CC'ing Diego as upstream build system maintainer] Adeodato Simó d...@net.com.org.es writes: * A Mennucc [Tue, 17 Mar 2009 22:36:19 +0100]: I am puzzled... how come that this happens only on MIPS? I don’t know, really. Aurelien Jarno offered his assitance to try to reproduce the problem, though he’s busy and may take a bit until he gets around to it. we had a similar problem with ffmpeg on mips, which was fixed in 0.svn20080206-13. From the changelog entry: [Thiemo Seufer] * compile shared libavcodec explicitly with $(PIC), since gcc-4.3 mips/mipsel needs an explicit PIC flag for shared library code. . Until gcc-4.2 Linux/MIPS always used PIC code, even for executables. This changed with gcc-4.3, and with it the compiler default changed to non-PIC. As a result, -fPIC now needs to be explicitly supplied for shared library builds. . (Closes: #498216, 498647, 498397) Maybe there is a similar problem in mplayer's configure script? The fix was after all in ffmpeg's configure script, which is reimplemented in mplayer. But TBH, I currently have the fear that the problem could be one of our patches that we carry, namely 30link-system-ffmpeg.patch. At least that patch has a direct effect on the gcc call that is failing. Could some of the mips porters please try to build the mplayer package with that patch disabled, and send the buildlog to this bug? This will result in not using the system ffmpeg but the internal copy. But this would at least verify if the patch is buggy or not. -- Gruesse/greetings, Reinhard Tartler, KeyID 945348A4 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Any details about this which could make it a usable bug report? Which sort of detail do you want??? I think my report was simple and clear, no? Well, I didn't say it wasn't clear, but do you think that somebody can fix it just by having read your bug report? I don't know if you can fix it but everyone which has a palm can verify that its broken (the information are not displayed and not usable). Thanks, enough for now. Maybe it's obvious to you, but without having the hardware myself to test, saying it's broken gives me the same info about your problem as if you had told me the sky is blue. If you don't have the hardware it will be hard to test it effectively! You need almost the contact pdb file but I don't know how to provide a sample to you. Yep, this is true, it will be hard, but you have it, and mail too, not impossible ;-) Yes but it contains very personal data which are not shareable. I was referring to the hardware, no intention you have to disclose your data, just you could make tests and mail me the result back wether it went right or wrong, but not the data :-) Just for fun: have you tested with claws-mail (which supposedly also supports jpilot) and see what happens? No, I don't try with claws-mail. I'll try it as soon as possible. Thanks! We'll see if it's just a sylpheed bug or maybe something worse (I believe both use the same library to access jpilot: libpisock9). regards, -- Ricardo Mones ~ Never send a human to do a machine's job. Bug#520202: samba: compile failes with error ctdb_private.h is required for cluster support
Package: samba Version: 2:3.3.1-1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Justification: no longer builds from source Hi, Package samba/2:3.2.5-4 released in Debian r5.0/lenny contains bug 495081 (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=495081) upstream bug 5826 that was fixed in package samba/2:3.3.0-1. This bug introduces a serious backwards compatibility problems with Samba 3.x clients and 2.0.x servers which exist in number in the field (including NAS, PDAs such as Zaurii and embedded devices). Upgrading to the testing (squeeze) version of the package, version 2:3.3.1-1, by building of source fails. This is because although samba sources depend on the ctdb library which both lenny and squeeze provide, the configure script of version 2:3.3.1-1 package does not detect the ctdb_private.h header included in the 1.0.47+git20080748-1 (lenny) version of the package. Upgrading the ctdb package to the 1.0.73-1 version (squeeze) resolves the problem. The proposed patch adds this constraint upon testing's dependencies lest a modification of the configure script be seen as a better solution. He did not respond, yet. I have 0.22 in the queue, 0.23 will follow once it's in the archive. Any news on this? I can sponsor an upload as well if Loic is too busy with other things. Please do so then. Do you need a source package that mentions you as uploader? Loic is mentioned there. That's not necessary, I'll just sponsor the upload this time. Bug#520221: In the GRUB menu, single-user mode is misleading (and so is recovery mode)
Package: grub Version: 0.97-47lenny2 Severity: minor Hi, in the GRUB menu there is the choice of two options for each installed kernel, one of them is the so called single-user mode. I believe this lable is misleading, because it does not actually describe what will happen if I choose this option -- i.e. single-user is only half the truth, it doesn't tell there will be no X11, no cups, no network-manager, etc. I am afraid that unexperienced users feel tempted to boot into single-user mode, because that's what they believe is what they want. They only want to write some letter and check emails, no need for further users on the system You got the point? To describe what hides behind this option something like root console comes to my mind (although this is still cryptic to the unexperienced user). In the grub2 packages the label has been changed to recovery mode which is at least better than single-user mode but still not perfect, because it also does not really describe what hides behind this option. Bug#448555: fixed in qt4-x11 4.5.0-2

(Closes: #448555) It uses the old hinting mechanism and looks somewhat better, but subpixel rendering is off. This is still worse than qt3. http://store.lisk.in/tmp/2009-03-17-102510_1280x800_scrot.png (left - qt3, right - qt4) It is even a bit worse here. Greetings, Armin PS: No need to CC me. Just in case anyone wonders... Are you sure that's related to this patch? Qt also added some patches in 4.5 to more closely respect the Fontconfig hinting settings. Could you try switching between Slight, Medium, and Full hinting in your Appearance settings? Previous to 4.5 Qt would always do full hinting if subpixel antialiasing was enabled. Package: python-pycha Version: 0.4.2-1 Severity: important The version of python-pycha recently uploaded to unstable will no longer install on unstable, as it was apparently built with the version of python-support from experimental (probably because you were testing the fix for #516901 with python-support 0.90.x and didn't downgrade back to the unstable version after testing). Bug#393606: [mail-notification-evolution] Evolution 2.24 transition is tricky
Note that just rebuilding against evolution-dev 2.24 makes the plugin load but crash Evolution on startup. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/mail-notification/+bug/251031 (the Ubuntu package referenced there has an extended patch which doesn't require a newer gob2). Moreover, while that patch fixes the crash, updates to the monitored Evolution mailboxes no longer seem to be noticed properly. I think https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mail-notification/+bug/292482 is about this, but I haven't found any fix for this yet. Bug#448555: fixed in qt4-x11 4.5.0-2
M G Berberich wrote: I don't know what the patch should do and where the problem lies, but on two Debian machines I tested the qt 4.5.0-2 packages effectivly disable subpixel-rendering. This looks much better than the uglified glyphs from 4.5.0-1 but still is not the desired result. I'm assume there is (still) a bug in the patch, probably somewhere around the call to convertRGBToARGB and the legacyFilter boolean. Could you try manually reverting the patch to see if the problem still exists? Alternatively you could comment out this line: useLegacyLcdFilter = (lcdFilterType == FT_LCD_FILTER_LEGACY); which should make the patch void as it should always use the old convoluteBitmap() approach. Assumption: perhaps we here have three different libraries trying to work around FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING = false, namely GTK/pango, kde3 and kde4, and in the past it worked because they all did something similar. Yes, it's a pity that each toolkit tries to do subpixel rendering in its own way at the moment. Though even on Ubuntu (which enables FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING by default) there are differences between Qt and GTK's font rendering. I assume it's because of different interpretations of the Fontconfig settings (GTK seems to switch legacy LCD filtering off when full hinting is enabled). I'm also a human after all ;-) Your package failed to build on Ubuntu, since libupsclient moved to /lib. uh, right. Rather than trying to tackle the configure macros that it used I switched it to pkg-config. The attached patch is a little large though, sorry, as I had to run aclocal and autoconf for that change. Then when you build that it sometimes fails as it tries to re-run automake and autoheader. So I added AM_MAINTAINER_MODE and called ./configure with --disable-maintainer-mode to avoid that. This involved re-running automake though, so the diff is even larger. wmnut still aims to be the bare X11 NUT app, and many systems still don't ship pkg-config, at least not by default. so upstreamly speaking, I'll rewritte the configure.ac but using both the pkg-config + nut-config to address all use cases. but to meat everybody's timeframe, I'll first make a 0.62-4 with a minimal patch based on yours. I'll then log an LP bug for requesting the Debian sync. thanks and apologies again, I owe you a beer (maybe in Barça ;-) cheers, Arnaud -- Linux / Unix Expert RD - Eaton - http://www.eaton.com/mgeops Network UPS Tools (NUT) Project Leader - http://www.networkupstools.org/ Debian Developer - http://people.debian.org/~aquette/http://people.debian.org/%7Eaquette/ Free Software Developer - http://arnaud.quette.free.fr/

Bug#520230: sonicvisualer: Please package sonic visualiser for Debian
Package: sonicvisualer Severity: wishlist Please package sonic visualiser for debian http://www.sonicvisualiser.org/ Sonic Visualiser contains features for the following: * Load audio files in WAV, Ogg and MP3 formats, and view their waveforms. * Look at audio visualisations such as spectrogram views, with interactive adjustment of display parameters. * Annotate audio data by adding labelled time points and defining segments, point values and curves. * Overlay annotations on top of one another with aligned scales, and overlay annotations on top of waveform or spectrogram views. * View the same data at multiple time resolutions simultaneously (for close-up and overview). * Run feature-extraction plugins to calculate annotations automatically, using algorithms such as beat trackers, pitch detectors and so on. * Import annotation layers from various text file formats. * Import note data from MIDI files, view it alongside other frequency scales, and play it with the original audio. * Play back the audio plus synthesised annotations, taking care to synchronise playback with display. * Select areas of interest, optionally snapping to nearby feature locations, and audition individual and comparative selections in seamless loops. * Time-stretch playback, slowing right down or speeding up to a tiny fraction or huge multiple of the original speed while retaining a synchronised display. * Export audio regions and annotation layers to external files. The design goals for Sonic Visualiser are: * To provide the best available core waveform and spectrogram audio visualisations for use with substantial files of music audio data. * To facilitate ready comparisons between different kinds of data, for example by making it easy to overlay one set of data on another, or display the same data in more than one way at the same time. * To be straightforward. The user interface should be simpler to learn and to explain than the internal data structures. In this respect, Sonic Visualiser aims to resemble a consumer audio application. * To be responsive, slick, and enjoyable. Even if you have to wait for your results to be calculated, you should be able to do something else with the audio data while you wait. Sonic Visualiser is pervasively multithreaded, loves multiprocessor and multicore systems, and can make good use of fast processors with plenty of memory. * To handle large data sets. The work Sonic Visualiser does is intrinsically processor-hungry and (often) memory-hungry, but the aim is to allow you to work with long audio files on machines with modest CPU and memory where reasonable. (Disk space is another matter. Sonic Visualiser eats that.) -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=nl_NL.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#496718: vpnc: Disconnects after an hour and loops trying to reconnect
After upgrading to lenny, I have the same problem. Looks like it is a rekeying problem. Previously I was running a backport of 0.5.1r275-1 on etch, and this did not have the problem. I still had that .deb so I downgraded vpnc by installing it with dpkg, and the problem has gone away. Bug#520233: lv2: Please package LV2 and LV2 plugins for Debian
Package: lv2 Severity: wishlist http://lv2plug.in/ LV2 is a standard for plugins and matching host applications, mainly targeted at audio processing and generation. LV2 is a simple but extensible successor of LADSPA, intended to address the limitations of LADSPA which many applications have outgrown. Why LV2? While LADSPA has been quite successful with many plugins and hosts, it is quite limited and can't be extended without breaking existing implementations. LV2 in contrast is designed with extensibility in mind right from start. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=nl_NL.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#520241: Please package dssi-vst for Debian
Package: dssi-vst Version: 0.8-1 Severity: wishlist http://breakfastquay.com/dssi-vst/ dssi-vst is an adapter that allows users of Linux audio software to take VST and VSTi audio effects and instrument plugins compiled for Windows, and load them into native LADSPA or DSSI plugin hosts. Plugins run at full speed for most audio processing, although their user interfaces are slower because of the Windows emulation. dssi-vst can also be used to run 32-bit Windows VST plugins in a 64-bit Linux host. dssi-vst requires Wine libraries for Windows compatibility, and is therefore best obtained directly from a Linux distribution repository that can provide all of the required libraries at the time of installation. Installing dssi-vst without a distribution package can be quite tricky to do. dssi-vst is free, open source software written by Chris Cannam. Bug#520215: ghostscript tarball may include the upstream fonts
Excerpts from Fabian Greffrath's message of ons mar 18 09:12:10 +0100 2009: since upstream version 8.63 the fonts in the Resource/Font directory are properly licensed under the GPL, so it is not necessary to remove them anymore. I don't know if they are already identical to the ones shipped in the Debian gsfonts package, though. Thanks for spotting this. Bug#520251: pbuilder: Pbuilder does not umount bindmounts when ssh connection dies
Package: pbuilder Version: 0.181 Severity: important When pbuilder is executed over ssh and the ssh connection dies, it won't umount bind mounts and won't clean up the build dir. Unfortunately, cowbuilder WILL cleanup the build dir, wiping all bind mounts. The execution order is like this: ssh - sudo - cowbuilder - pbuilder Because of the sudo, the SIGHUP will not be delivered to pbuilder. However, pbuilder will get SIGPIPE when writing to stdout or stderr. In addition, even when SIGPIPE is ignored, a write to stdout will give EPIPE, which causes echo to return with an error. Therefore, you - need to catch sigpipe in addition to sighup - need to ignore sigpipe and sighup in the cleanup handler - need to set +x in the cleanup handler to avoid exiting just because echo returns an error. The attached patch works for me but I have only edited pbuilder-buildpackage and not the other commands. diff -Nru /tmp/Clyhun1xsU/pbuilder-0.181x1/pbuilder-buildpackage /tmp/LAaYdkTAGv/pbuilder-0.181x2/pbuilder-buildpackage --- pbuilder-0.181x1/pbuilder-buildpackage 2007-05-28 13:37:29.0 +0200 +++ pbuilder-0.181x2/pbuilder-buildpackage 2009-03-18 11:50:00.0 +0100 @@ -52,7 +52,7 @@ echobacktime extractbuildplace -trap umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup +trap umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup sigpipe loadhooks if [ ! -d ${BUILDRESULT} ]; then @@ -89,10 +89,10 @@ createbuilduser echo Installing the build-deps executehooks D -trap saveaptcache_umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup +trap saveaptcache_umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup sigpipe checkbuilddep $PACKAGENAME save_aptcache -trap umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup +trap umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup sigpipe echo Copying source file copydsc $PACKAGENAME $BUILDPLACE/tmp/buildd @@ -139,7 +139,7 @@ fi if ! wait ${BUILD_PID}; then -trap umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup +trap umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup sigpipe eval ${KILL_WAIT_PID} echo pbuilder: Failed autobuilding of package 2 executehooks C @@ -149,10 +149,10 @@ # build was successful fi -trap umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup +trap umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup sigpipe executehooks B save_aptcache -trap cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup +trap cleanbuildplace_trap exit sighup sigpipe umountproc @@ -166,6 +166,6 @@ : cleanbuildplace -trap - exit sighup +trap - exit sighup sigpipe echobacktime exit 0 diff -Nru /tmp/Clyhun1xsU/pbuilder-0.181x1/pbuilder-modules /tmp/LAaYdkTAGv/pbuilder-0.181x2/pbuilder-modules --- pbuilder-0.181x1/pbuilder-modules 2008-05-08 17:49:07.0 +0200 +++ pbuilder-0.181x2/pbuilder-modules 2009-03-18 11:50:39.0 +0100 @@ -464,23 +464,31 @@ # all trap hooks that should lead to 'exit'; and error exit. function cleanbuildplace_trap () { +trap sigpipe sighup +set +e cleanbuildplace -trap - exit sighup +trap - exit sighup sigpipe exit 1 } function saveaptcache_umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap () { +trap sigpipe sighup +set +e saveaptcache_umountproc_cleanbuildplace -trap - exit sighup +trap - exit sighup sigpipe exit 1 } function umountproc_cleanbuildplace_trap () { +trap sigpipe sighup +set +e umountproc_cleanbuildplace -trap - exit sighup +trap - exit sighup sigpipe exit 1 } function umountproc_trap () { +trap sigpipe sighup +set +e umountproc -trap - exit sighup +trap - exit sighup sigpipe exit 1 }

Maybe investigate if you have some time, because the cause explaining bad speed between you and ftp.nl.d.o may imply bad speed between your mirror and Debian users somewhere in NL. It looked like overload on ftp.nl. We have lots of bandwidth available, so that wouldn't seem like a problem to me. The box itsself has a gigabit link with less than 100 Mbit usage on average. We have a 30 gbit amsix connection, 10 gbit Deutsche Telekom transit and 10 gbit Tata telecom (aka Teleglobe) transit. Additionally, we have one gigabit of backup transit if all else fails. Updates: twice You may setup push mirroring in order to get maximum freshness : http://debian.org/mirrors/push_mirroring Ok, I'll fix that tomorrow :) DO you have news about the push mirroring setup ? I have replaced anonftpsync with ftpsync. However, how do I tell a push mirror that it should tell our mirror box to start mirroring? BTW, you can safely remove http://debian.mirror.cambrium.nl/debian-non-US/ which is deprecated for a long time. As anonftpsync isn't used anymore, I guess this is automatically fixed now :) PS. My apologies for not getting back to you earlier. I've been very busy the last 2 weeks and now have time available to fix up everything. Usually we have 2 admins maintaining the mirror(s), but the other one was unavailable for some time. -- Johan Mulder Cambrium BV. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#412610: O: gdb-m68hc1x -- GNU Debugger for the Motorola 68HC11/12 processors
Hi Aurelien, I noticed gdb-m68hc1x Debian package is an orphan, and also noticed you were the former maintainer of the package. I'm going to propose for an adpotion, and I thought if you could sponsor me just like gputils package. Could you be my sponsor for this package also? I still have many HCS12s around and I actually have more updated code for this since I recently merged target code for TBDML pod. I'm planning to submit a patch to upstream, but I'd also like to have updated binary included in Debian. Best Regards, Taisuke Yamada signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
