Bug#481061: python-apt: Rename API methods to conform with PEP 8
On 11-Apr-2009, Julian Andres Klode wrote: I am attaching the current state of a apt.deprecation module, which will be used for this. This can be used for apt.** and aptsources.*, but not for apt_pkg and apt_inst. As you can see, parts are written by you. Thanks, I'm glad that it's proven useful. I do hope the test code gets separated out to a unit test module though :-) For apt_pkg and apt_inst, I am not sure how to do this. Being written in C++, it may be to hard to warn about every deprecated method and attribute. I had a look at the C++ interfaces and couldn't see how to do the right thing for the implementation, so I don't have an opinion there. Therefore, I suggest that we just warn on using the top-level functions like GetCache() and not every where else. So long as the whole external interface is PEP 8 conformant, that sounds fine. -- \ “[Entrenched media corporations will] maintain the status quo, | `\ or die trying. Bug#394465: unicorn 0.9.3 NMU candiate - IRQ problems
As far as I can tell, the IRQ sharing problem I found is related to PCI quirks on my motherboard/BIOS or possibly Unicorn hardware and not caused by the Unicorn driver. It only arises when the BIOS allocates Unicorn a shared IRQ with the motherboard VT8233 AC97 audio chip. The kernel ACPI code later re-allocates the Unicorn to a separate IRQ but something still keeps raising (and failing to clear) spurious interrupts on the original IRQ. Possibly a signal level is not being reset on the original IRQ allocation. Causing the Unicorn to answer both interrupts does not help, the original IRQ seems to be stuck in a triggered state after the Unicorn has been moved away from it. Sharing with other devices apart from the VT8233 doesn't seem to be a problem, hence my suspicion that this is a PCI quirk and not a driver error. There may be a driver related solution but it's beyond my current skills to find out. I'll open a separate bug for it if I can narrow things down further. I'll therefore go ahead with asking for an upload as Philippe suggests. Thanks very much for all your help ! Bug#524436: icedove: Dropping suggests on libthai0
Package: icedove Version: 2.0.0.9-1 Severity: minor While tracking rdepends of libthai, I find icedove suggests libthai0. But this should only be useful for an ancient patch from Mozilla #7969 against Gecko 1.8, which is not actually applied to current icedove source. So, I think it could now be dropped. And when Tb 3 is released with Gecko 1.9.1 engine, the patch would be totally unneeded, as Pango approach is adopted instead. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=th_TH.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=th_TH.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Unfortunately, I did not write down OOPS infromation first time and in second time it just crashed hard. I then reverted to 2.6.18-6-k7 kernel from Etch. Then I could run backup, but it reported errors about filenames, with accented charactes in filenames (smbfs in Lenny no longer supports codepage parameter, which is cause of that problem). So my guess is, that this crash was caused by those filenames. Unfortunately I cannot run much test either, because it happened in production server. Bug#518673: libidn_1.12-2(hppa/experimental): FTBFS: java not available on hppa
+ Simon Josefsson (Fri, 17 Apr 2009 00:29:51 +0200): The sparc experimental buildd has failed to build the latest upload, since the buildd doesn't seem to have gcj. As far as I can tell, that would be a problem with the sparc buildd. There are gcj packages for sparc in the archive. This is a problem with them being temporarily uninstallable. I’ve set for libidn to be retried when they go back to being installable. I’ve looked at what you did. It indeed does the job, and that’s the basic idea to use, debhelper’s -N. A bit more idiomatic code is: | NO_JAVA_ARCHES := arm hppa hurd-i386 | DEB_HOST_ARCH ?= $(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_ARCH) | | ifeq (,$(filter $(DEB_HOST_ARCH),$(NO_JAVA_ARCHES))) | ENABLE_JAVA := --enable-java | else | export DH_OPTIONS=-Nlibidn11-java | endif And then, you can lose all the $(DH_NO_JAVA) part when calling the dh_ commands, because debhelper picks it up via DH_OPTIONS from the environment. Oh, much nicer, thank you. I'm using it now. :-) I'm going to wait some days to see if any experimental buildd's fail unexpectedly, but then I'll upload to unstable. Sounds good, thanks. -- - Are you sure we're good? - Always. -- Rory and Lorelai -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#524098: xserver-xorg: dependency on console-setup broke keyboard settings
On Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 07:15:03PM +0200, Julien Cristau wrote: Yes, that works (at least lshal now returns the correct values; I have long-running jobs so I can't log out to test if X receives them). From what little I understand from HAL, the call to debian-setup-keyboard happens _after_ procesing the .fdi files, so it will always overwrite any custom configuration unconditionally. that still sounds like a hal bug to me. I don't think so. You specify in a config file that it should run a script that updates the configuration, but you expect that script to run _before_ parsing the config files? You should probably not only check for the existence of the input.xkb.* keys, but also that all keys still have the default value. Probably you should remove the xkb-specific part from /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-keymap.fdi, and that's shipped by hal, so xserver-xorg can't do anything about that. Yes you can. You can request the HAL maintainers to disable that script (IMHO the directory is called OS vendor for a reason), and then depend on the corrected HAL version. debian-setup-keyboard should only set the input.xkb.* properties if they are _all_ empty (otherwise it would be difficult to distinguish the layout is US by default and the layout has been explicitely set to US cases). i don't think debian-setup-keyboard can distinguish between 'layout set by hal's 10-keymap.fdi' and 'layout set by the user's config' currently. I've just described how you can do it in my previous mail. Bug#523660: dmraid: RAID not activated after upgrading to 1.0.0.rc15-6
Asier ha scritto: I can't talk with the previous owner of the computer, but this is what I think he done: in his previous motherboard (Asus P800) he built the isw fakeraid array (so the isw_bb... name). Later he changed motherboard and plugged the array directly in the promise fasttrack tx4 sata sockets. And (re)created the array in the system bios. Surprisingly the system recognized the previous isw fakeraid: this can explain the dual signature (pdc and isw) in the device. This is off-topic: the array is working well but should I re-create properly the array with the pdc controller? any gain? or switch to LVM? For the moment I'll stick with the 1.0.0.rc14-7 version. So, you are using a FastTrack (pdc) controller, but have an Intel (isw) controller... not good. dmraid -r -vvv dmraid -s -vv Could you paste the output with the 1.0.0.rc14-7 version please? Bug#524098: xserver-xorg: dependency on console-setup broke keyboard settings
On Fri, 2009-04-17 at 09:16 +0200, Gabor Gombas wrote: On Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 07:15:03PM +0200, Julien Cristau wrote: Yes, that works (at least lshal now returns the correct values; I have long-running jobs so I can't log out to test if X receives them). From what little I understand from HAL, the call to debian-setup-keyboard happens _after_ procesing the .fdi files, so it will always overwrite any custom configuration unconditionally. that still sounds like a hal bug to me. I don't think so. You specify in a config file that it should run a script that updates the configuration, but you expect that script to run _before_ parsing the config files? i expect that whatever's in /etc (configuration) overrides whatever's in /usr (defaults), yes. You can request the HAL maintainers to disable that script (IMHO the directory is called OS vendor for a reason), and then depend on the corrected HAL version. sigh. that would still mean a change in hal first, wouldn't it? debian-setup-keyboard should only set the input.xkb.* properties if they are _all_ empty (otherwise it would be difficult to distinguish the layout is US by default and the layout has been explicitely set to US cases). i don't think debian-setup-keyboard can distinguish between 'layout set by hal's 10-keymap.fdi' and 'layout set by the user's config' currently. I've just described how you can do it in my previous mail. not without a change in hal. hence currently. so no, you didn't. Bug#518673: libidn_1.12-2(hppa/experimental): FTBFS: java not available on hppa
Adeodato Simó d...@net.com.org.es writes: + Simon Josefsson (Fri, 17 Apr 2009 09:26:00 +0200): Before uploading to unstable, I also need to sort out the lib vs java section override for libidn11-java. And there seems to be an old build-dependency on autotools-dev in libidn which should probably be removed, it doesn't seem to do anything useful. I’m not sure about the section business, the best you can do is reply to the override email and ask ftpmaster what’s the correct section. Done, waiting for reply. ;) Regarding autotools-dev, it is used by debian/rules and does useful stuff: cp -f /usr/share/misc/config.sub config.sub cp -f /usr/share/misc/config.guess config.guess Those files will never be used during the build, upstream libidn uses these files from build-aux/ since many release ago. You can read /usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz for some information. I've read it, but I think it is based on old understanding of autoconf/automake/libtool. For example, it doesn't discuss autoconf 2.6x and libtool 2.x at all. The files shipped in the autotools-dev file are older than what libidn ships. So I think autotools-dev does more harm than good in this case. /Simon -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#456133: qiv imlib
+ Bart Martens (Mon, 13 Apr 2009 11:20:05 +0200): At this point, the most recent upstream version of qiv still needs the old imlib. Where to go from here ? Possible options: 1. Barry is working with upstream to get qiv updated to no longer need the old imlib. Let's appreciate Barry's efforts by giving Barry some more time to finish this effort. 2. We could replace qiv by pqiv, which is a program that more or less behaves like qiv. 3. Removal from Debian, although popcon reveals that there are still quite some users. I suggest somebody packages pqiv, we let it migrate to testing, and then we remove imlib11 and qiv from testing once icewm has stopped using it. I don’t mind that we leave qiv around in unstable for users who may not be happy with pqiv, and to “wait and see” if upstream moves and ends up upgrading to imlib2. But if Squeeze comes and this has not happened, we should remove qiv from unstable as well I think. Bart, thanks for the pointer to pqiv: would you be up to packaging it? I’m a qiv user myself, and after compiling it here, it seems to fill the niche gracefully. If not, I’ll file a RFP. Hi Christian - many thanks for your rapid response. What version of Debian is running on the *server* (ie the machne where you mount workspace from)? The server is running Sid (unstable) - but I can reproduce this behaviour on my other server which is running Lenny (stable). The fstab.copy that I attached to my previous email shows shares mounted from both servers, and the same behaviour happens when moving files to any share. It also happens from other clients (all my clients run Lenny). I don't yet have a machine running Squeeze, but I can upgrade a third machine this weekend to test it. Can you try to reproduce this by mounting a ressource from your local machine ? I will try this as soon as I can and report back. Bug#524098: xserver-xorg: dependency on console-setup broke keyboard settings
On Fri, Apr 17, 2009 at 09:50:55AM +0200, Julien Cristau wrote: i expect that whatever's in /etc (configuration) overrides whatever's in /usr (defaults), yes. My confiuration in /etc does override 10-keymap.fdi, but that's not what causing the problem. The problem comes from the fact that the settings in /etc and debian-x11-keymap.fdi do _not_ conflict and therefore there is nothing to override: - in /etc, I say set input.xkb.layout to X when keyboard Y is found - debian-x11-keymap.fdi says run debian-setup-keyboard whenever a keyboard is found The two requests are orthogonal, so HAL obeys both. It just happens that debian-setup-keyboard then blows the configuration that has been set in /etc. But since HAL has not the slightest idea what debian-setup-keyboard will do, it cannot possibly prevent that. Yes you can. You can request the HAL maintainers to disable that script (IMHO the directory is called OS vendor for a reason), and then depend on the corrected HAL version. sigh. that would still mean a change in hal first, wouldn't it? Not sure, just diverting /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-keymap.fdi should also work. Just be careful that it also contains a callout to hal-setup-keymap and I have't got a clue what that command does. Bug#496258: asterisk-gui (not)
Update on the asterisk-gui ITP: not going anywhere for now. I spent some time recently trying to update asterisk-gui . Sadly I could not get much farther. It kept looping at startup and upstream has been quite uncooperative. Debugging the maze of client-side Javascript has proved to be quite uncooperative: http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=14840 Current version of the package will not work with latest Asterisk 1.6.1 and DAHDI. My work-in-progress patches to adapt some SVN version (that does support them) is at my working copy if anybody wants to pursue this. But it seems that the asterisk-gui is something designed for asterisk running as root and executing shell commands provided from the user with minimal or no filtering. This is not something I like. -- Tzafrir Cohen icq#16849755 jabber:tzafrir.co...@xorcom.com +972-50-7952406 mailto:tzafrir.co...@xorcom.com http://www.xorcom.com iax:gu...@local.xorcom.com/tzafrir -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#497523: HAL way
Hello, On 2009 m. April 17 d., Friday 11:06:36 Julien Cristau wrote: I'd prefer for this to be configured on the desktop environment level, rather than system-wide in hal (makes it easier to move from hal to something else in the future, for one, and actually makes more sense since this is essentially a user preference). Does a typical user expect tapping/vertical edge scrolling to work out-of-the- box or not? I think the answer is definitely YES. So if upstream decided to disable it (for reasons I still barely understand), I think it is a good idea to offer a user to choose another default. At very least, this example is worth to be added to /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/examples/ and a note in README.Debian. The bad thing about configuration in DEs is that configuration usually becomes DE-only. I prefer xkb to be configured globally for the settings to be shared among DEs. The same applies to synaptics. As for HAL, when it gets dropped, you will simply update the package. -- Modestas Vainius modes...@vainius.eu signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
Bug#362313: yet another devil in the xorg dependency hell
Hi, I just discovered another problem related to the xorg dependency hell. On my laptop, where I don't want to upgrade to xorg 7.4 just yet, I tried to put it on hold with aptitude hold xserver-xorg. Much to my surprise, aptitude safe-upgrade would upgrade xserver-xorg-core and the input drivers anyway! That's possible because xserver-xorg does not have a versioned dependency on xserver-xorg-{video,input}-all. The likely result of upgrading xserver-xorg-core but not xserver-xorg is breakage with non-US keyboards; but if hal is not installed, the damage will be more severe, since then all input devices stop working without warning. Why do we need an extra xserver-xorg package anyway? Would it not be possible to move everything to xserver-xorg-core, reducing the cyclic dependencies? I ask because I'd really like to see this make it into Debian Squeeze. Hi Roberto, The latest release (v0.3.13) is primarily just a tzdata update. Unfortunately, I've not had as much time as I would have liked to work on splitting the data and core API. I've drawn up a plan, but not had a chance to get too far into the implementation. + Simon Josefsson (Fri, 17 Apr 2009 09:58:15 +0200): Regarding autotools-dev, it is used by debian/rules and does useful stuff: cp -f /usr/share/misc/config.sub config.sub cp -f /usr/share/misc/config.guess config.guess Those files will never be used during the build, upstream libidn uses these files from build-aux/ since many release ago. Then maybe they should be copied to build-aux? Or ensure they’re copied to the appropriate place. Hm, then it sounds like a bug in autotools-dev, rather than a motive to ditch it completely. Bug#524239: Bug#524233: console-setup should conflict with console-data
I think currently the goal is setterm, keyboard rate and numlock to be set by kbd (notice that console-tools is also obsoleted) and font keyboard layout -- by console-setup. It is not difficult for console-setup to take control on these too but I am not sure about the advantages of this (except maybe that the keyboard rate can be shared with X). Regarding the 2 config files and the user not knowing which one is going to win -- I think you are right. I think we can add a Debconf menu similar to the one the user gets when he installs together several desktop managers (xdm, gdm, kdm and wdm). Anton Zinoviev - Original message - I think there are a few things that console-setup doesn't do that atleast console-tools does: - calling setterm to set powersaving mode. - Set keyboard rate - Being able to set numlock on boot Anyway, my problem with the current situation is that there are 2 config files where I can set the same thing, and it's not obvious which of the 2 is going to win.

Bug#522104: do you use uswsusp?
I just found that my screen stayed black because I had just switched to the open nv driver (instead of the closed source nvidia), as I also installed the new kernel. So my problem of having a black screen after a hibernate is not related to this package. The rest is, though. Sjoerd Sjoerd Hardeman schreef: To speed thing up, let me reply. I also found this problem, after the updating session yesterday. Similar things happen, pressing Alt-F8 does not help me to get out of the black screen, only a reset does. Right now I have just uninstalled splashy, as the other critical bug of not starting/stopping init scripts affected me too. This led to hal not starting properly (I guess), touchpad not working etc. Purging splashy (or better, moving /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh out of the way) solved all these problems. Bug#523529: xserver-xorg-video-sis: Server crashes on switching video modes (kde session exit under kdm)
Hello could you please elaborate on that workaround? I am experiencing what is probably the same bug, but on Kubuntu Jaunty (9.04) beta. It was not present on Hardy (8.04), i skipped the Intrepid release. In my case, the xserver works incorrectly from the beginning if sisfb is not loaded (psychedelic moving colors), when sisfb is loaded it appears to work (mostly) correctly, until a logout - then it crashes and does not restart (but can be restarted manually, by reloading kdm). As I noted above, in previous versions xorg worked mostly correctly on the same machine, loading sisfb was not needed. Bug#497523: HAL way
On Fri, 2009-04-17 at 11:41 +0300, Modestas Vainius wrote: Hello, On 2009 m. A patch for that would certainly be appreciated. Note that there's already a NEWS entry about this in git, for which suggestions are also welcome. The bad thing about configuration in DEs is that configuration usually becomes DE-only. I prefer xkb to be configured globally for the settings to be shared among DEs. The same applies to synaptics. As for HAL, when it gets dropped, you will simply update the package. The problem with that if we make it a debconf choice is we'd need to read whatever was configured in /etc/hal/fdi/policy/synaptics-tapping.fdi or similar, and migrate it to the new scheme, be it devicekit or whatever. That means a lot of code in the package that I'd rather avoid. Cheers, Julien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#523711: update-initramfs doesn't pass version to flash-kernel

Now this situation is not common, but it shows a more general problem: when /boot/vmlinux points to version 1 but you run update-initramfs on version 2 it will still write version 1 to flash. I think it should either write version 2 to flash or not write anything to flash (and only update the ramdisk on disk). The easiest solution is probably to pass a specific version to flash-kernel. sure update-initramfs can pass the ${version} to flash kernel. how does flash-kernel react with the extra arg, just tell me how you want it to be passed and it will get added for 0.93.3 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Is this reproduceable with virsh as well? virsh domblkstat foo hdc Yes, the same messages appear in the logs when I invoke this comamnd. Bug#512831: coreutils: cp refuses to hardlink a specific file,, with a strange error message
Hi, For over two years I am experiencing the same problem when hardlinking large amounts of data. However, on my servers it is /not/ reproducible. The error occurs in an automated process and concerns different files every time. Furthermore, it does not occur every day. cp: cannot create hard link `/backups/HIS/history//2009-04-13_13h00m01s/xxx/xxx/berichten/xxx/klaar/24681' to `/backups/HIS/history//2009-04-13_13h00m01s/xxx/xxx/berichten/xxx/klaar/24681': No such file or directory According to the error message, cp tries to hard link a file right over itself. This is unexpected, especially since cp was called like this: cp -lar /backups/HIS/latest/* /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-13_13h00m01s/ Needless to say, the file does not exists in the destination directory: # ls -la /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-13_13h00m01s/xxx/xxx/berichten/xxx/klaar/24681 ls: cannot access /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-13_13h00m01s/xxx/xxx/berichten/xxx/klaar/24681: No such file or directory At the time of creating the hardlinked copy, the server was idle. So I don't think we're dealing with some kind of race condition. As you might expect, this file is being hardlinked again the next day: cp -lar /backups/HIS/latest /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-13_13h00m01s Which works like a charm: # ls -la /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-14_13h00m01s/xxx/xxx/berichten/xxx/klaar/24681 -rw-r--r-- 17 rsync nogroup 1110 2009-03-25 11:51 /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-14_13h00m01s/xxx/xxx/berichten/xxx/klaar/24681 If anyone has seen this problem before (and maybe even solved it), please report it! Bug#470318: i387 versus SSE versus MPFR (gcc bug)
On 2008-04-17 14:02:17 +0400, Alexei Sheplyakov wrote: I don't think it's a bug. Rather, it's a wrong expectation from the user side. You are comparing results of FP calculation done on 3 different platforms: ix87, sse2, and MPFR, and expect them to be the same. I think your expectation is wrong. I agree with you, the testcase doesn't show any bug, but... That said, I'm not really an expert. Feel free to point out which requirements of IEEE 754 are violated. IEEE 754 allows computations to be performed in an extended precision (this is still true in the current version, IEEE 754-2008). However the long answer is more complex: the C99 language has additional requirements (5.1.2.3#12, 6.3.1.5#2 and 6.3.1.8#2[52]) and bindings (Annex F, when IEEE 754 is claimed to be supported). See upstream bug 323 for more information: http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=323 and in particular my comment #125: http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=323#c125 Since the incorrect result was obtained *without* optimizations, I suppose that the problem is not due to the GCC bug 323, but is due to double rounding only. So, in this case, as I've said there (in my comment #125), this is a bug in glibc: http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=6981 -- Vincent Lefèvre vinc...@vinc17.org - Web: http://www.vinc17.org/ 100% accessible validated (X)HTML - Blog: http://www.vinc17.org/blog/ Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / Arenaire project (LIP, ENS-Lyon) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#524474: apache2: FollowSymlinks / SymlinksIfOwnerMatch ignored with server-side-includes
Package: apache2 Version: 2.2.9-10+lenny2 Severity: grave Tags: patch security lenny sid 1. BUG DESCRIPTION The Options settings FollowSymlinks and SymlinksIfOwnerMatch are ignored for files included using SSI when the files are symlinks and located in the same directory. Even when the FollowSymlinks and SymlinksIfOwnerMatch are NOT set, symlinks are still followed, and ownership is not checked. This means a user can set a symlink to any file on the system readable by the Apache user, even outside the DocumentRoot, and read it through HTTP, even if the administrator disabled this by not setting FollowSymlinks and SymlinksIfOwnerMatch. The bug is present in all current 2.2.x versions, so both in 2.2.9 (lenny) and 2.2.11 (sid). 2. Bug#524475: wishlist: include brief syntax reference in man page
Package: unison Version: 2.13.16-5 Severity: wishlist I always find myself needing to dig up the main unison documentation when doing a sync over ssh, as the URI syntax is different than ssh/scp. It would be nice if there were a brief syntax reference for the various root types in the man page as a quick reminder. Perhaps: Unison roots can be specified in the following way: root ::= [protocol:]//[u...@][host][:port][/path] | path protocol ::= file | socket | ssh | rsh Or perhaps a little more human-friendly way :-) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#524018: reassign to gnome-keyring
reassign 524018 gnome-keyring retitle 524018 gnome-keyring: overrides SSH_AUTH_SOCK (but not AGENT_PID); doesn't work thanks Hi, This seems to be a gnome-keyring problem. Some part of the xsession startup results in SSH_AUTH_SOCK being overwritten with a socket path which connects to gnome-keyring (e.g. /tmp/keyring-wiGtof/socket.ssh) but leaves the existing SSH_AGENT_PID referring to the running ssh-agent. The result is a desktop where ssh public keys don't work. gnome-keyring2.26.0-3GNOME keyring services (daemon and tools) -- Jon Dowland -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#524470: audacious: Playlist does not close filedescriptors when loading MP3 metadata and stops loading it
Package: audacious Version: 1.5.1-4 Severity: important When adding a whole directory of MP3 files in the playlist, it begins to scan the files to extract the meta data (author, album, title, time, ...) and display it in the playlist. To do so, it opens each MP3 file, reads the information and should close it. But it seems not to close the files. So the informations appears only for the N first files and stops. As it stopped because all the filedescriptors are used, audacious can not open any more file and can not play. If I increase the ulimit (-n), it can get information from more files and stop again, ... I tried to increase ulimit -n 15000, the playlist got 2500 files information and stopped. It was unable to open a single more file to play it, and there was 15000 open file descriptors in /proc/PID/fd . When I run audacious from command line, the same thing happens, and when I quit audacious it tries to save the config but can not, the error message is explicit. The limit was about 1500 files for ulimit -n 1024 So the files seems to be openned multiple times -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.1 APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'oldstable'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages audacious depends on: ii audacious-plugins 1.5.1-2 Base plugins for audacious ii dbus1.2.1-5 simple interprocess messaging syst ii gtk2-engines-pixbuf 2.12.12-1~lenny1 Pixbuf-based theme for GTK+ 2.x ii libatk1.0-0 1.22.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libaudclient1 1.5.1-4 audacious dbus remote control libr ii libaudid3tag1 1.5.1-4 audacious id3 tag manipulation lib ii libc6 2.7-18 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.6.4-7 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.1-5 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-20.76-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libglib2.0-02.16.6-1+lenny1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.12.12-1~lenny1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libmcs1 0.7.1-1 Abstraction library to store confi ii libmowgli1 0.6.1-1 a high performance development fra ii libpango1.0-0 1.20.5-3 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsamplerate0 0.1.4-1 audio rate conversion library ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-2X11 Session Management library ii libx11-62:1.1.5-2X11 client-side library Versions of packages audacious recommends: ii audacious-plugins-extra 1.5.1-2Various extra plugins for audaciou ii unzip 5.52-12De-archiver for .zip files audacious suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
