Bug#549447: findimagedupes: unusable
On Wed, Oct 14, 2009 at 10:12:13PM +0200, Manuel Prinz wrote: I have no idea where exactly the issue comes from, but after rebuilding an unmodified version and installing the new package on my sid box findimagedupes works like a charm. If someone could confirm that it fixes the issue, I'll ask the release team to schedule a rebuild. The problem is with the Inline module noticing that the Perl version has changed from 5.10.0 to 5.10.1. The module looks at the dependency info in /usr/lib/findimagedupes/lib/auto/findimagedupes/findimagedupes.inl and decides to rebuild the C parts, which obviously fails. While a binNMU would fix things for now, things would break again with Perl 5.10.2, so it's not the right fix. The dependency information would stay incorrect. I suppose a workaround could be to somehow generate dependencies like Depends: perl (= 5.10.1), perl ( 5.10.2~) and require binNMUs every time the perl version changes. As the Perl versions are binary compatible and the rebuild isn't actually needed for anything, I think the right thing has to do with the VERSION parameter of the Inline module. From the Inline manual: VERSION Specifies the version number of the Inline extension object. It is used only for modules, and it must match the global variable $VERSION. Additionally, this option should used if (and only if) a module is being set up to be installed permanently into the Perl sitelib tree. Inline will croak if you use it otherwise. The presence of the VERSION parameter is the official way to let Inline know that your code is an installable/installed module. Inline will never generate an object in the temporary cache (_Inline/ directory) if VERSION is set. It will also never try to recompile a module that was installed into someone's Perl site tree. So the basic rule is develop without VERSION, and deliver with VERSION. However, this means the Inline'd code would need to be moved to a separate module (used only for modules). That seems easy to do though. FWIW, the few other packages depending on libinline-perl don't seem to be broken. I looked at libogg-vorbis-header-perl (which uses the VERSION parameter) and it's loading the C extension fine. -- Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#535436: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the ddclient package
Dear maintainer of ddclient and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the ddclient Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: ca cs de es eu fi fr gl it ja nb nl pt pt_BR ru sk sv uk vi zh_TW Among these, the following translations are incomplete: ca es eu fi gl it ja nb nl pt pt_BR sk uk vi zh_TW If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the ddclient package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Wednesday, October 21, 2009. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Saturday, October 10, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Thursday, October 15, 2009 : send this notice Wednesday, October 21, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Thursday, October 22, 2009 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Thursday, October 29, 2009 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR em...@address, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: ddcli...@packages.debian.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2009-06-21 15:02+0200\n PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n Last-Translator: FULL NAME em...@address\n Language-Team: LANGUAGE l...@li.org\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. It would be nice if we could mandate its support. But OTOH @reboot has a feature which could confuse users: @reboot (on std cron) is called sometime earlier as expected in the init.d sequence. And I think the new dependency based init it could make it worse. IMO I really think that packages should use the init.d script instead of rely @reboot, allowing @reboot only for sysadmin: better to have a unique method for init.d-like scripts, and to use the full features of new booting system. But in this case we doesn't need @reboot in the policy. In the other case, I think we need to specify in policy when @reboot is called, and which services should be available. ciao cate PS: priority of cron: S89 (old style) and $remote_fs $syslog $time new style. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#550434: Please remove the conflict with devicekit-disks ASAP
severity 550434 serious thanks Hi, Sorry, I don't consider it acceptable to knowingly break people's systems like that (even in unstable). As of yesterday's update I no longer have access to my encrypted volumes (due to missing cryptsetup) unless I remove all of gnome, which is ridiculous. I would appreciate if you could upload a version of dmsetup without a conflict on devicekit-disks or come up with some other non-intrusive interim solution while you are working out the problems with it. Bug#551011: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#551011: nagios-plugins-basic: several plugins depend on locale in performance data
Jan, thanks for the hint, I wasn't aware that Thomas is upstream maintainer. If command line parameters and output of the plugins are supposed to be locale-specific, that's one point. I still disagree, but the main point is performance data, which should be machine-readable. A search for locale and performance in the nagios-plugins sourceforge bugtracker had no result, by the way. Bug#550873: iceweasel: embarrassing crashes
Aioanei Rares wrote: Better try the Debian package... Which package do you mean exactly? either way, are you really using accelerated graphics on that computer? Only the occasional game, like tuxracer. Do you mean that this computer is really too old/constrained for such a thing? Anyway, I solved my iceweasel stability problem now by downgrading to version 3.0. It then refused to play java applets; but by downgrading openjdk-6 and icedtea plugin to the previous version in the cache, this was solved also. I'll put off upgrading for a while. Of course this is not a real cure. The many warnings Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead still occur with many sites using flash. But they no longer seem to matter much. 2009/10/13 Manuel Prinz man...@debian.org: tag 545919 + pending thanks Hi Alan, thanks very much for your patch! I applied it to our SVN repository with minor modifications. I will upload a new package soon, but need to do some testing before that. Am Sonntag, den 13.09.2009, 10:59 +0100 schrieb Alan Woodland: The attached patch builds an extra binary package, openmpi-checkpoint on architectures which have BLCR available. (Option #3 from the earlier mail). I think it all works sanely, and shouldn't introduce any new problems. As said, I did some minor modifications, but nothing serious. It builds well and does not seem to introduce a problem from what I can see at the moment. So everything's great so far! :) I agree with your choice of option #3. I first had doubts about introducing a new package because it's really small but it seems to be the best solution. Not sure if you want to recommend or suggest openmpi-checkpoint though? I'd say recommend since I think checkpoints would be useful for the majority of usages for openmpi, but I don't feel strongly either way really. I agree with you here and left it as Recommends. Thanks again for your patch! Thanks for accepting it! Please feel free to send any bug reports relating to this my way, and I'll try to take a look. Bug#551045: ITP: edfbrowser -- a viewer for medical timeseries storage files
Hi Bas, sorry for the full quote but I want to keep Debian Med in the queue. Do you intend to maintain the package under Debian Med group maintenance following Debian Med group policy[1]? BTW, the policy is not fully up to date because it does not mention the newly created git repository. To the Debian Med team: Independently from Bas's answer: to which task do we want to add this (prospective) package? I wonder whether it is just tools or if it better fits into practice as well as perhaps psychology (mentioning in more than one task is fine as well). What do you think? Kind regards Andreas. Bug#550442: ffmpeg: deluge of crashes due to missing input sanitization
Hello Security Teams, Michael Gilbert reported in debian bug #550442 that ffmpeg in debian and ubuntu contained a deluge of crashes. I have backported a bunch of fixes from ffmpeg trunk, which now need review, validation and eventually publishing. Affected are all distros that ship ffmpeg 0.5, this includes - lenny - squeeze - sid - jaunty - karmic earlier version of ffmpeg might be affected as well. Michael Gilbert michael.s.gilb...@gmail.com writes: On Tue, 13 Oct 2009 19:23:26 +0200, Reinhard Tartler wrote: As for this bug, I'm inclined to close this bug with the upload of [2]. The reason is that this report is way to inprecise. This report currently reads the package has been found crashers that might compromise the system. Sorry, this is just not helpful. We'd really need at least a list of concrete issues, ideally with reference to the relevant svn commits (so that commit messages can be reviewed) that can be processed and backported. in an ideal world every security issue would come with a complete prescription and regiment to make it all better. however, we do not live in such a place. the best we can do is track the issue at hand, follow work being done elsewhere, and potentially spend our own precious time testing and writing fixes. obviously this is a lot of work, but it is the price we pay since there are nefarious peoples about. i would recommend working with the security team to request cve's on oss-sec for specific issues once they are well-defined, and address each of them in turn; while keeping this bug open to track the meta-issue (potentially downgrading to important as to not impede transitions). note that any of these crashers that show signs of memory corruption are very much cause for concern (see recent pdf jbig2 decoder issues). the others can probably be safely discarded. by may enable remote compromise, i mean via user-assisted (social engineered) attack vectors (i.e. downloading and viewing a malicious video file). this is a very legitimate concern since most users are very trusting of untrustworthy data. I've worked on the packaging branch for karmic. The relevant backports that I produced so far can be found here: http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-multimedia/ffmpeg.git;a=tree;f=debian/patches/security;hb=ubuntu.karmic Most of these patches have been proposed by the chromium developers, that collect patches for upstream here: http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/deps/third_party/ffmpeg/patches/to_upstream/ most of the patches got further polishing by upstream before applying. In many cases, the chromium developers did rather fix symptoms, upstream prefers real fixes. Anyway, I went through the list of chromium patches and managed to locate most patches in ffmpeg trunk Patches that I couldn't find upstream include: 09_mov_stsz_int_oflow.patch 32_mov_stream_index.patch 35_mov_bad_timings.patch 40_ogg_missing_header.patch They probably need further investigation. Michael, could you please check if and what patches I might have missed? I'd like to ask you (both security teams) to review my patches so far and if and to what security queues the should be uploaded or not. -- Gruesse/greetings, Reinhard Tartler, KeyID 945348A4 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. This is almost certainly caused by messy OpenAL code, in the latest version it seems to do horrible things like opening ALSA as soon as the library is loaded. I can only very strongly recommend to revert to an earlier, sensible OpenAL version, going by what I see IMHO it doesn't even fulfill the lowest quality standards. That indeed looks like the problem. I downgraded libopenal1 from 1:1.9.563-1 (latest unstable) to 1:1.8.466-3 (latest testing), and the message went away. Bug#542789: why do we need this
On 14/10/09 at 13:52 +0300, Peter Antoniac wrote: Just wanted to ask for some reasons,.. as I see some ubuntufication of Debian ;) Well, we have to make sure that there are no ubuntufications there. The Debian reasons are that the ubuntu-dev-tools contains some scripts/apps that are useful with sbuild tool (like bootstrapping, lvm images, etc.). It is about those tools and some others[1] that could be a good contribution to debian tools. The point of packaging u-d-t in Debian is that it provides tools that are useful to Ubuntu developers running Debian (my case, for example). Some of the tools in ubuntu-dev-tools are better suited for other packages, like devscripts, but packaging u-d-t as is doesn't prevent those scripts from being moved to devscripts at some point in the future. -- | Lucas Nussbaum | lu...@lucas-nussbaum.net http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/ | | jabber: lu...@nussbaum.fr GPG: 1024D/023B3F4F | -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I checked my install-info version again and I had an older version 4.12 locally installed, too, which caused the problems. This happened, since I am using texlive on debian, which is fairly outdated in unstable so that I use a manual installation of the latest texlive. But this contains an older version of install-info (4.12) instead of the actual version 4.13 in unstable. By replacing the older install-info with 4.13, the upgrade of dc works perfectly now.
