Bug#549447: findimagedupes: unusable

2009-10-15 Thread Niko Tyni
On Wed, Oct 14, 2009 at 10:12:13PM +0200, Manuel Prinz wrote:

I have no idea where exactly the issue comes from, but after rebuilding
an unmodified version and installing the new package on my sid box
findimagedupes works like a charm. If someone could confirm that it
fixes the issue, I'll ask the release team to schedule a rebuild.

The problem is with the Inline module noticing that the Perl version
has changed from 5.10.0 to 5.10.1. The module looks at the dependency
info in /usr/lib/findimagedupes/lib/auto/findimagedupes/findimagedupes.inl
and decides to rebuild the C parts, which obviously fails.

While a binNMU would fix things for now, things would break again with
Perl 5.10.2, so it's not the right fix. The dependency information would
stay incorrect.

I suppose a workaround could be to somehow generate dependencies like
 Depends: perl (= 5.10.1), perl ( 5.10.2~)
and require binNMUs every time the perl version changes.

As the Perl versions are binary compatible and the rebuild isn't actually
needed for anything, I think the right thing has to do with the VERSION
parameter of the Inline module. From the Inline manual:

   VERSION
Specifies the version number of the Inline extension object. It
is used only for modules, and it must match the global variable
$VERSION. Additionally, this option should used if (and only if)
a module is being set up to be installed permanently into the
Perl sitelib tree. Inline will croak if you use it otherwise.

The presence of the VERSION parameter is the official way to
let Inline know that your code is an installable/installed
module. Inline will never generate an object in the temporary
cache (_Inline/ directory) if VERSION is set. It will also never
try to recompile a module that was installed into someone's Perl
   site tree.

So the basic rule is develop without VERSION, and deliver with VERSION.

However, this means the Inline'd code would need to be moved to a separate
module (used only for modules). That seems easy to do though.

FWIW, the few other packages depending on libinline-perl don't seem
to be broken. I looked at libogg-vorbis-header-perl (which uses the
VERSION parameter) and it's loading the C extension fine.

Bug#535436: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the ddclient package

2009-10-15 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of ddclient and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the ddclient Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
ca cs de es eu fi fr gl it ja nb nl pt pt_BR ru sk sv uk vi zh_TW

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: ca es eu fi gl it ja nb
nl pt pt_BR sk uk vi zh_TW

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the ddclient package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Wednesday, October
21, 2009. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Saturday, October 10, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Thursday, October 15, 2009 : send this notice
Wednesday, October 21, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Thursday, October 22, 2009 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Thursday, October 29, 2009 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

But OTOH @reboot has a feature which could confuse users:
@reboot (on std cron) is called sometime earlier as expected in the
init.d sequence.
And I think the new dependency based init it could make it worse.

IMO I really think that packages should use the init.d script instead of
rely @reboot, allowing @reboot only for sysadmin: better to have a unique
method for init.d-like scripts, and to use the full features of new
booting system.
But in this case we doesn't need @reboot in the policy.

In the other case, I think we need to specify in policy when @reboot is
called, and which services should be available.

If you clone from:

You can just work on the source tree as usual with git. After you're

Current version of pam_listfile checks whether an user is a member of

Bug#550434: Please remove the conflict with devicekit-disks ASAP

2009-10-15 Thread Jurij Smakov
severity 550434 serious
thanks

Hi,

Sorry, I don't consider it acceptable to knowingly break people's
systems like that (even in unstable). As of yesterday's update I no
longer have access to my encrypted volumes (due to missing cryptsetup)
unless I remove all of gnome, which is ridiculous. I would appreciate
if you could upload a version of dmsetup without a conflict on
devicekit-disks or come up with some other non-intrusive interim
solution while you are working out the problems with it.

Thanks.

Description: pthread stubs not provided by native libc
This library provides weak aliases for pthread functions not provided
in libc or otherwise available by default. Libraries like libxcb rely
on pthread stubs to use pthreads optionally, becoming thread-safe when
linked to libpthread, while avoiding any performance hit when running
single-threaded. libpthread-stubs supports this behavior even on
platforms which do not supply all the necessary pthread stubs. On
platforms which already supply all the necessary pthread stubs, this
 package has no content.

Bug#551011: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#551011: nagios-plugins-basic: several plugins depend on locale in performance data

2009-10-15 Thread Moritz Both
Jan, thanks for the hint, I wasn't aware that Thomas is upstream
maintainer. If command line parameters and output of the plugins are
supposed to be locale-specific, that's one point. I still disagree, but
the main point is performance data, which should be machine-readable.

A search for locale and performance in the nagios-plugins
sourceforge bugtracker had no result, by the way.

Thomas, could you please kindly comment on this?

Regards,
Moritz

installed. If remove both then nothing is in my Addons list.
The interesting part is that I can install them over the addons website of
mozilla and they work, but not over Debian.
So did a strace of my iceweasel startup and noticed some lines which contains
the string extensions
access(/usr/lib/mozilla/extensions/{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384},

It seems that a folder was installed incorrect by an old installation of an
extension:

drwx-- 12 root root 4096 2009-10-14 17:08 /usr/lib/mozilla/extensions

$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/mozilla/extensions
xul-ext-firebug, mozilla-stumbleupon, xul-ext-adblock-plus:
/usr/lib/mozilla/extensions

So removing all extensions and reinstalling them helped.

On
platforms which already supply all the necessary pthread stubs, this
 package has no content.

Really? How would you explain this:

  http://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/kommander/filelist

And where are the files kmd-editor, kmdr-executor, kmdr-plugins???

 Please read my bugreport carefully!

That does not make kommander completely unusable. The package might be a lot
less useful than before, but you should still be able to run kommander
scripts. Downgrading severity to important though it would be wishlist if
kommander was a new app.

And Debian cannot help you here. Those parts are not ported to KDE 4 due to
lack of interest I guess.

This software is distributed as a free software without any

am not responsible for the case when you cite your friend's mail
with a silly citation prefix in a serious situation :)

   * Can I incorporate this program into Debian package?

   Yes.

Upstream's agreement neither a necessary nor a sufficient condition for
a piece of software to be included in Debian. First of all, it needs to
have a clear, DFSG-free license attached...

This Yes is NOT a special answer only for Debian.
My recognition on `free software' is not the permanently

All I can say now is I hope

without any charge for itself, freely modifiable unless the
original author(=me)'s copyrights are infringed or neglected,
absolutely not responsible to any result from itself. If there
is A license clauses which implies these points above in some
era, this software can be classified into the group that the
clauses want to assume as `free'.

This wording is far too vague. Please bug upstream to use a well-known
license.

Bug#550987: upcoming GRUB command interface change affects GNU/kFreeBSD

2009-10-15 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Robert Millan a écrit :
 Package: debian-installer
 Severity: normal
 Tags: patch

Next upstream release of GRUB (1.97~beta5) will have its kFreeBSD loader
renamed (from freebsd to kfreebsd) to reflect that it is loading the
kernel of FreeBSD rather than FreeBSD itself. Since GRUB 1.96 didn't
include a kFreeBSD loader at all, there's no backward compatibility in
 this change.

Attached patch modifies build/boot/kfreebsd/grub-kfreebsd-*.cfg to use
the new interface. Please let us know when it is appropiate for us to
upload the new version. We can coordinate through IRC or whichever way
 you prefer.

The chroot in which the daily images are built are only upgraded
manually. This means that a warning about the upload will be enough,
I'll take care that the SVN is updated in sync with the chroots.

Bug#551050: aptitude tries to remove nis on sid/lenny hybrid as a result of the #546753 fix

2009-10-15 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: hostname
Version: 3.00
Severity: important

This is such an edge case that I normally wouldn't report it. Because
it involves accidental removal of auth infrastructure, I raise it and
will let you decide whether it's worth pursuing.

On a hybrid testing/unstable system:

$ aptitude full-upgrade -syV
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reading extended state information
Initializing package states... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libdbus-glib-1-2{u} [0.82-2] nis{a} [3.17-28]
The following packages will be upgraded:
  hostname [2.98 - 3.00]
1 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/14.2kB of archives. After unpacking 1,139kB will be freed.
Would download/install/remove packages.

Removing nis to appease hostname sounds scary! (I'm using NIS for
user and group resolution, not for hostname resolution.)

$ apt-config shell x APT::Default-Release
x='testing'

$ apt-cache policy hostname nis
hostname:
  Installed: 2.98
  Candidate: 3.00
  Version table:
 3.00 0

 *** 2.98 0

nis:
  Installed: 3.17-28

  Version table:

So it looks like this server has had hostname (but not nis)
cherry-picked from sid. Cherry-picking nis from sid made the problem
go away:

$ sudo aptitude install -y nis/unstable

Only the occasional game, like tuxracer. Do you mean that this

Anyway, I solved my iceweasel stability problem now by downgrading
to version 3.0. It then refused to play java applets; but by
downgrading openjdk-6 and icedtea plugin to the previous version
in the cache, this was solved also. I'll put off upgrading for a
while. Of course this is not a real cure.

The many warnings Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

to matter much.

No. Makes no sense. The pdfimport extensions code is part of normal OOo,
whereas svgsimports is not. And I don't like adding them to the openoffice.org
package therefore (We only do two exceptions here, -sdbc-postgresql and
-mysql-connector, but just because they need internal OOo stuff to build)

 Ref:
 http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/svgimport

That's just the binaries anyway, not the source.
Where's the source? (The author is supposed to provide it as the
extension is GPL v3)

Also note that this extension is buggy given that it dos not say anything
about that you need Batik for it :-)

See http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/SVG_Import_Filter. What you
request here is that external filter with strong dependency. The internal
one *is* already included in our version.

Thus wontfix.

Bug#551055: puppetmaster: Missing version in (Build-)Depends on facter

Hello,

while creating a backport for etch I noticed a missing version in the
Build-Depends-Indep and Depends on facter.
Version =1.5 is required for the build process, and puppetmaster gives some
error messages when started with facter 1.5.

This is not a big problem since 1.5.1 is already in Lenny.
Just add facter (= 1.5) with the next upload.

Thanks.

 Hi Alan,

thanks very much for your patch! I applied it to our SVN repository with
minor modifications. I will upload a new package soon, but need to do
 some testing before that.

Am Sonntag, den 13.09.2009, 10:59 +0100 schrieb Alan Woodland:
The attached patch builds an extra binary package, openmpi-checkpoint
on architectures which have BLCR available. (Option #3 from the
earlier mail). I think it all works sanely, and shouldn't introduce
 any new problems.

As said, I did some minor modifications, but nothing serious. It builds
well and does not seem to introduce a problem from what I can see at the
moment. So everything's great so far! :)

I agree with your choice of option #3. I first had doubts about
introducing a new package because it's really small but it seems to be
 the best solution.

Not sure if you want to recommend or suggest
openmpi-checkpoint though? I'd say recommend since I think checkpoints
would be useful for the majority of usages for openmpi, but I don't
 feel strongly either way really.

I agree with you here and left it as Recommends.

 Thanks again for your patch!

Thanks for accepting it! Please feel free to send any bug reports
relating to this my way, and I'll try to take a look. I have
subscribed to the PTS, but I'll definitely notice something forwarded
to my main mailbox :)

To the Debian Med team: Independently from Bas's answer: to which task
do we want to add this (prospective) package? I wonder whether it is
just tools or if it better fits into practice as well as perhaps
psychology (mentioning in more than one task is fine as well).

What do you think?

Kind regards

 Andreas.

Bug#551058: javahelp2: Content of upstream tarball differs from the one in Debian

2009-10-15 Thread Sylvestre Ledru
Package: javahelp2
Version: 2.0.05.ds1-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

Trying to have a look on the source code of javahelp, I retrieved the debian
source with:
apt-get source javahelp2

The list of the directories is the following one:
debian jhMaster JSearchIndexer_nbproject
javahelp_nbproject JSearchClient_nbproject

When I tried to get through uscan upstream jh2.0.zip
the content of the source package is completely different:
demos doc javahelp LICENSE.html README README.html src.jar

It is no big deal but there should be a debian/README.source explaining:
* what are the differences
* how it can be done again
(and a repack script would be great)

The only reference I can found is in the changelog and is:
* Remove zip archive from orig.tar.gz and repackage

Thanks
Sylvestre

Bug#548394: [gnome-power-manager] gnome fails to start, Install problem

Brent S. Elmer Ph.D. wrote:
Something in the gnome upgrade changed which totally broke my gnome. I
don't think it had anything to do with gnome-power-manager. I submitted
a bug report to gnome-session. I tried several things to try to make it
work. The only thing I could do to make it work was delete .gnome2
and .gconf. The last several months, Debian testing is more like Debian
unstable. It seems that a lot of things are broken in Debian testing
now. I have been running Debian testing for years and right now it is
particularly unstable. On one of my computers, X is totally broken.

This doesn't look like a gnome-power-manager specific problem after all, so
downgrading to important.

This is almost certainly caused by messy OpenAL code, in the latest
version it seems to do horrible things like opening ALSA as soon as the
library is loaded.
I can only very strongly recommend to revert to an earlier, sensible
OpenAL version, going by what I see IMHO it doesn't even fulfill the

Bug#550442: ffmpeg: deluge of crashes due to missing input sanitization

2009-10-15 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Hello Security Teams,

Michael Gilbert reported in debian bug #550442 that ffmpeg in debian and
ubuntu contained a deluge of crashes. I have backported a bunch of
fixes from ffmpeg trunk, which now need review, validation and
eventually publishing.

Affected are all distros that ship ffmpeg 0.5, this includes

 - lenny
 - squeeze
 - sid
 - jaunty
 - karmic

earlier version of ffmpeg might be affected as well.

Michael Gilbert michael.s.gilb...@gmail.com writes:

On Tue, 13 Oct 2009 19:23:26 +0200, Reinhard Tartler wrote:
As for this bug, I'm inclined to close this bug with the upload of
[2]. The reason is that this report is way to inprecise. This report
currently reads the package has been found crashers that might
compromise the system. Sorry, this is just not helpful. We'd really
need at least a list of concrete issues, ideally with reference to the
relevant svn commits (so that commit messages can be reviewed) that can
 be processed and backported.

in an ideal world every security issue would come with a complete
prescription and regiment to make it all better. however, we do not
live in such a place. the best we can do is track the issue at hand,
follow work being done elsewhere, and potentially spend our own
precious time testing and writing fixes. obviously this is a lot of
work, but it is the price we pay since there are nefarious peoples
 about.

i would recommend working with the security team to request cve's on
oss-sec for specific issues once they are well-defined, and address each
of them in turn; while keeping this bug open to track the meta-issue
(potentially downgrading to important as to not impede transitions).

note that any of these crashers that show signs of memory corruption
are very much cause for concern (see recent pdf jbig2 decoder issues).
the others can probably be safely discarded. by may enable remote
compromise, i mean via user-assisted (social engineered) attack
vectors (i.e. downloading and viewing a malicious video file). this
is a very legitimate concern since most users are very trusting of
 untrustworthy data.

I've worked on the packaging branch for karmic. The relevant backports
that I produced so far can be found here:

http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-multimedia/ffmpeg.git;a=tree;f=debian/patches/security;hb=ubuntu.karmic

Most of these patches have been proposed by the chromium developers,
that collect patches for upstream here:

http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/deps/third_party/ffmpeg/patches/to_upstream/

most of the patches got further polishing by upstream before
applying. In many cases, the chromium developers did rather fix
symptoms, upstream prefers real fixes. Anyway, I went through the list
of chromium patches and managed to locate most patches in ffmpeg trunk

Patches that I couldn't find upstream include:

09_mov_stsz_int_oflow.patch
32_mov_stream_index.patch
35_mov_bad_timings.patch
40_ogg_missing_header.patch

They probably need further investigation.

Michael, could you please check if and what patches I might have missed?

I'd like to ask you (both security teams) to review my patches so far
and if and to what security queues the should be uploaded or not.

 Cool :-)

Packaging ubuntu-dev-tools requires packaging some dependencies first:
   - python-launchpadlib (Launchpad web services client library)
   - python-wadllib (Python library for navigating WADL files)
   - python-httplib2 (HTTP client library ; currently packaged but
   outdated in Debian)

I've just ITAed python-httplib2, I could eventually provide ITPs for
  the missing dependencies.

That would be great. I'm not really good at python, so co-maintainers
with python knowledge would be really helpful. James Westby also told me
that he ITPed one of the deps, but I'm not sure of which one.

OK, here is another status update.
- python-httplib2: now up-to-date, thanks to Luca.
- python-launchpadlib: still needs to be packaged (package available in
  Ubuntu, of course)
- python-wadllib: still neds to be packaged (package available in
  Ubuntu)

As I'm not really into packaging python modules, it would be better if
someone from the Python modules team would package python-launchpadlib
and python-wadllib. Any volunteers?

Perhaps the mplayer package should stop building the openal audio output

Even better: the package IS NOT team-maintained, because YOU decided

What a strange attitude.

Given that we didn't see the point of uploading a new version just to

Bug#542789: why do we need this

On 14/10/09 at 13:52 +0300, Peter Antoniac wrote:

Well, we have to make sure that there are no ubuntufications there. The
 Debian
reasons are that the ubuntu-dev-tools contains some scripts/apps that are
useful with sbuild tool (like bootstrapping, lvm images, etc.). It is about
those tools and some others[1] that could be a good contribution to debian
 tools.

The point of packaging u-d-t in Debian is that it provides tools that
are useful to Ubuntu developers running Debian (my case, for example).
Some of the tools in ubuntu-dev-tools are better suited for other
packages, like devscripts, but packaging u-d-t as is doesn't prevent
those scripts from being moved to devscripts at some point in the
future.

Yeah, I just realised this. Maybe you should ping Piotr Ozarowski about it?

 Do you prefer a NMU?

I don't mind, because I am not actively maintaining the package.

Even better: the package IS NOT team-maintained, because YOU decided
to put the team in Uploaders (not in Maintainer) so uploads has to be
done by real maint. If you prefer the opposite, switch those two
 field.

 What a strange attitude.

Given that we didn't see the point of uploading a new version just to change
an email address, and given that the Python application team has been
notified, and given that I have already told you it is team maintained, I
really don't see why you'd presume to tell me anything.

Fine, I'll remove you from the package maintainer/uploaders field, RFA
the package and upload as soon as I'll be back on. Goodbye.

Bug#521325: [solved] ivman don't process hal events after startup

2009-10-15 Thread Daniel Borca
The bug is caused by ivman calling xmlCleanupParser() after each xml parsing;
but it shouldn't: http://xmlsoft.org/html/libxml-parser.html#xmlCleanupParser

... and while you people are at it, there is a potential segfault
in ivman-0.6.14/src/manager.c:974 (the cfg is teste after is used)

Bug#550824: install-info: No dir file specified; try --help for more information.

2009-10-15 Thread Johannes Fichtinger
Hmm, strange. Since these versions

dpkg --version reports 1.15.4 (i386)
install-info: 4.13a.dfsg.1-5 (unstable)

are the currently actual packages in unstable, I thought this problem should
be happening to everyone. I actually wondered already, why there are no bug
reports yet. Seems like to be a local problem here.

Thanks,
Johannes

Bug#551065: med-xpi-pack breaks INPUT directory

2009-10-15 Thread Dmitry E. Oboukhov
Severity: grave
Package: mozilla-devscripts
Version: 0.17

If we have easy unpacked (unzipped) xpi which contains jar-file, the
command
 med-xpi-pack unpacked-dir.xpi creating.xpi

will unpack and delete jars in INPUT directory. So input data will be
broken.

Severity: grave because:

=quote http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer.en.html#severities

makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or _causes data
loss_, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the accounts of
users who use the package.

Bug#551066: javahelp2: Missing icons causes some options to be hidden

2009-10-15 Thread Sylvestre Ledru
Package: javahelp2
Version: 2.0.05.ds1-1
Severity: important

Hello,

When I am using a documentation based on the javahelp2 browser, I cannot see
any icons. This renders many options of javahelp2 to be unsuable.

It is due to an error in the repack of the javahelp sources.
The fix is pretty easy.
1) download upstream archive
2) unpack src.jar inside
3) Copy the missing files
cp -R javahelp2-upstream/src/javax/help/plaf/basic/images/
javahelp2-debian-dir/jhMaster/JavaHelp/src/new/javax/help/plaf/basic/
cp -R javahelp2-upstream/src/javax/help/plaf/gtk/images/
javahelp2-debian-dir/jhMaster/JavaHelp/src/new/javax/help/plaf/gtk/

Thanks

Bug#551067: libpthread-stubs0_0.3-1_i386.deb (unstable) is broken

2009-10-15 Thread Michel Bauer
Package: libpthread-stubs0
Version: 0.2-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Hello

This is my first bug report.
Package libpthread-stubs0 upgraded this morning to 0.3-1 prevents the start of
X11,
resulting in the error : no screen found. I have no log of Xorg to show but
this is what guided me to libpthread-stubs0.
Reverting to version 0.2-1 solves the problem.

Bug#550824: install-info: No dir file specified; try --help for more information.

2009-10-15 Thread Johannes Fichtinger
I checked my install-info version again and I had an older version 4.12
locally installed, too, which caused the problems. This happened, since I am
using texlive on debian, which is fairly outdated in unstable so that I use a
manual installation of the latest texlive. But this contains an older version
of install-info (4.12) instead of the actual version 4.13 in unstable.

By replacing the older install-info with 4.13, the upgrade of dc works
perfectly now.

So, I am sorry for the troubles and thanks again for checking. I guess, the
bug can be closed.

Johannes
