Bug#567353: libpod-escapes-perl: should this package be removed from Debian?

2010-01-31 Thread Damyan Ivanov
-=| Ansgar Burchardt, Fri, Jan 29, 2010 at 01:52:06AM +0900 |=-
 Version: 1.04-1
the libpod-escapes-perl module is also provided by perl-modules.
This package can therefore be removed from Debian.

Any second thoughts from somebody else from the Debian Perl Group?

Last upstream release in May 2004. RM away.

Bug#567756: (xserver-xorg-input-all: keyboard not working after squeeze upgrade)

2010-01-31 Thread Rick Thomas

This sounds related. I tried a couple of variants of drz's solution,
but none of them helped.

In the PowerPC list, drz wrote:

Subject: after update - no Keyboard in X - my workaround

Hi there

I just updated my squeeze installation on a powerbook 4,5 and
rebooted.

After reboot I couldnt login into kde because I couldnt type anything.
Keyboard function was gone.

My Workaround:
I switched to console mode via kdm menu
then I added the following to /etc/xorg.conf

Section ServerFlags
   Option DontZap off
   Option AutoAddDevicesoff
EndSection

Section InputDevice
   Identifier Generic Keyboard
   Driver kbd
   Option XkbRules xorg
   Option XkbModel pc105
   Option XkbLayout de
   Option XkbVariantnodeadkeys
   Option XkbOptionslv3:lwin_switch
EndSection

After a /etc/init.d/hal restart and another /etc/init.d/kdm restart
I could

login again.
Dont know if the InputDevice part is needed, after inserting the
first part I

could type again (in X)

Bug#567364: Copyright and license for Perl module XML::Filter::XSLT

2010-01-31 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Hi,

the Debian package for XML::Filter::XSLT claims that the module is
distributed under the same terms as perl (ie. Artistic License and
General Public License), but this is not documented anywhere else in the
distribution.

As you are listed as the author for the module, could you please clarify
under which terms the module is distributed? It would be nice if you
could include years for the copyright.

A reply like

The module ... is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify
it under the same terms as Perl itself.

It is copyright year by ...

would be enough.

Thanks,
Ansgar

PS: Please keep 567...@bugs.debian.org CCed in your reply.

Hi,

please remove libpod-escapes-perl from unstable. It is now provided by
perl-modules.

Note: The Debian Perl Group was in process of adopting this package, so
I used RoM even though it is not yet maintained by us.

Bug#567757: Build-Depending on texlive: unacceptable

2010-01-31 Thread Kumar Appaiah
Package: nipy
Version: 0.1.2+1741-2
Severity: normal

Hi!

I observe that you Build-Depend on texlive, when texlive-latex related
packages should be sufficient. I was trying to debug an FTBFS in the
package, and found building it to be extremely cumbersome and
time-consuming because of the poor choice of Build-Depends.

I'd request you to kindly choose texlive-latex-extra or some such
package to not have to pull in loads of unneeded TeX related packages.

Thank you.

Kumar

fcron uses a different syntax from fcron. Your issue is explained in the
FAQ: http://fcron.free.fr/doc/en/faq.html#AEN2849 Where did you look up
the syntax for fcron? Maybe this is a documentation bug.

No, I just didn't read the documentation properly; thanks.

However, I do note that this particular feature of fcron syntax is
only there for backwards compatibility with older versions of fcron;
perhaps it might be worth considering removing it in order to be more
compatible with vixie cron syntax?

Bug#558291: (no subject)

2010-01-31 Thread Pablo Duboue
Actually, upstream has already modernized its autoconf scripts on their CVS as
part of their work on version 0.99.

Patching version 0.98 plus Winnie's fixes to the control file fixes this bug.

I'm part of the team that maintains the package, so I'll check the fixes into
our Alioth SVN, run a number of tests and post the package for upload.

Bug#567763: Wrong answer for... $ echo 8 - 0.5 | wcalc -EE -P0

2010-01-31 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
Package: wcalc
Version: 2.4-1
Severity: normal

wcalc seems handy and I'd like to rely on it in
shell scripts.

Unfortunately, it seems to me that it returns the
wrong answer when

1.) The -EE and -P0 options are used, and

2.) a decimal number, like 0.5, is subtracted by
an integer number, like 8.

I can duplicate the bug by typing the following at
the shell prompt:

$ echo 8 - 0.1 | wcalc -EE -P0

It returns

 = 80

but it seems to me that it should return

 = 8

Thanks,
Kingsley

This isn't enough, you still don't handle the case of /etc/readers.conf

it? Using ucf would also allow the user to review any updates and merge
them if appropriate.

Bug#555628: [done]: bootstrap of ghc6 on kfreebsd-amd64

2010-01-31 Thread Petr Salinger

Hi.

I am pleased to announce availability of ghc6 on kfreebsd-amd64.
I finished the bootstrap, the resulting package is available from [1].

The source package needs the same patch as in #567298 ([2]),
applied instead of previous debian/patches/kfreebsd-_gnu_source-565818

I hope that upload of ghc6 6.12 into unstable will be soon,
so we do not have to bother with 6.10 series for kfreebsd-amd64.

2010-01-31 Thread Tollef Fog Heen
Package: pcscd
Version: 1.5.5-1

From update-reader.conf:

It fails to unset LC_ALL as well, which means that a user with LC_ALL
set will not get the C collation order.

Bug#566080: The dependency has been removed entirely in safe-rm 0.8

2010-01-31 Thread Francois Marier
Hi Penny,

I removed that dependency entirely from safe-rm 0.8 so this shouldn't be a
problem in future perl upgrades.

That said, you're right, it doesn't actually solve the problem because
unless you upgrade your version of safe-rm before upgrading perl, then
you'll run into this problem.

On the other hand, I'm not sure what I can do from the safe-rm side (other
than what I've done -- removing the dependency). I'm guessing that something
would need to be done on the perl side but I hesitate to reassign the
bug. Given the difference in the popcon score between perl and safe-rm, I
doubt they will want to add checks in their package to make sure that
safe-rm is at least 0.8.

Cheers,

Francois

Bug#567733: do not export PS1 in /usr/share/base-files/dot.bashrc

2010-01-31 Thread Michael Prokop
* martin f krafft madd...@debian.org [20100131 09:29]:

Since /usr/share/base-files/dot.bashrc exports PS1, this means that
subshells inherit the value rather than setting sensible defaults.
zsh has a different prompt expansion syntax, so when it starts as
a subshell of bash, it'll display a prompt of (literally)

   \h:\w\$

which is not very useful. If I unset PS1 before I switch shells,
then zsh sets a proper default instead.

ACK.

It's related to #443245 where you can see that
/usr/share/base-files/dot.bashrc even overrides bash's default PS1
handling itself (like the /etc/debian_chroot feature).

regards,
-mika-

That's definitely great news.

So I'm assuming that it's not a hardware problem.

2010-01-31 Thread Ulrich Eckhardt
Hi!

Since an update yesterday (I'm running testing here), I'm seeing the same
effect here. I can also work around this by switching to 24 bits color depth.

Anyway, some info on this system here:
 - Mac Mini with a G4 PowerPC CPU
 - Radeon graphics chip, 'lspci' says VGA compatible controller: ATI
Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200] (rev 01)
 - Some installed packages:

Bug#567767: nxml-mode: should this package be removed?

2010-01-31 Thread Sven Joachim
Package: nxml-mode
Version: 20041004-8
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org

Hi,

the Debian Emacs maintainer wants to remove the emacs22 package from
squeeze which would leave your package uninstallable. Since nxml-mode
is already part of emacs23, it seems that your package could just be
removed since there is no need for it anymore.

If you agree with this reasoning, please send the following commands
to cont...@bugs.debian.org, replacing nn with this bug's number:

reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM: nxml-mode -- RoM; reasons

 Solutions may include:
 * Remove the preinst script from mysql-server
 or
 * Add a postinst script to start mysql in mysql-server

What about only stopping the server if mysql-server-5.0 is not

Bug#567766: laptop-mode-tools writes a lot in syslog even with debug=0 and VERBOSE_OUTPUT=0

but I'm seeing at boot :

Is it normal ? It looks like a verbose output...how can I disable it ?

That's a good point. I think I should lower down the amount of messages that
are logged during a non-verbose run. This would require a change in many
places.

For now, please disable syslog logging (LOG_TO_SYSLOG=0) if those messages are
too much.

The VERBOSE_OUTPUT option is used to enable verbose messages in the current
console only.

The title would translate to nv nvidia driver: refresh rate from 60 to 50.

mein Problem: die Wiederholrate wird beim nv-Treiber auf 60Hz gesetzt und
bei dem nvidia-Treiber auf 50Hz gesetzt. das führt dazu, das die Zeichen
plötzlich verdoppelt werden.

My problem: The refresh rate is set to 60Hz with the 'nv' driver and to 50Hz
with the 'nvidia' driver. This leads to the characters suddenly being doubled.

For the record, I can't tell what the reporter actually meant with characters
being doubled, the description isn't clear in German either.

Bug#516336: haskell-utils: FTBFS: Not in scope: `readPackageDescription'

hmake is also orphaned. Is there anyone in the DHG interested in the
package? If not, should we remove it?

It looks like we have a problem then. At the bottom of this mail you can
find the output of a (dry-run-mode) attempt of removing haskell-utils
from the archive. There are 24 packages in unstable which still depend
on haskell-utils, so it can't be removed naively.

What are your (as in debian-haskell) plans about this? I see only two
possibilities: or you envisage migrating all such packages to
haskell-devscripts (modulo some transitive removals of some of them) or
haskell-utils needs to be fixed at least in the interin while those
packages still build-depends on it.

Remember that time is ticking, the freeze is near :-)
Cheers.

Bug#567770: Moving config to /etc left empty /usr/share/e16/config; completely borks e16

2010-01-31 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: e16
Version: 1.0.0-3.1
Severity: grave

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Instead of putting a symlink at /usr/share/e16/config, I wound up with
an empty directory there. Among other things, this causes (some only
after manual config cache purge restart):

o Can not change the theme. It uses the winter theme, period.

o The right click and middle-click on desktop menus do not work. So
you can't configure or purge config caches.

o The control-right click window op menu doesn't work (it will not
  appear)

o The window op menu button (in the title bar, if your theme has
one) doesn't work. This is before restart (winter theme doesn't
  have button)

o The close button (window title bar) doesn't work. Neither does the
minimize button. It isn't possible to close windows.

rmdir followed by ln -s, then purge cache (manually, via rm -Rf), then
restart e16 brings back normal functionality.

PS: I don't see any maintainer script to make the symlink. It looks like
you attempted to have dpkg make the change, but, quoting policy 6.6:

A directory will never be replaced by a symbolic link to a directory
or vice versa; instead, the existing state (symlink or not) will be
left alone and `dpkg' will follow the symlink if there is one.

I am therefor filing as grave, as I'm pretty sure this hits all
upgrades, not just me.

Bug#489247: gpredict: Incorrect KDE menu entry showing up in Lost and Found [nb]

2010-01-31 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

tags 489247 + patch
thanks

[Hamish Moffatt]
gpredict just uses a menu category of HamRadio, which is one of the
xdg desktop specification's secondary categories. It doesn't list
any of the primary categories because I don't think any of them are
appropriate, but this isn't really policy compliant.

I had a closer look at
URL:http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/menu-spec-1.0.html#category-registry,
and checked which categories googleearth and celestia are using, as
they are somewhat similar in function to gpredict:

  googlearth: Application;Network
  celestia: Astronomy;Education;Science

Based on this, I suggest Application, Network, Education, Astronomy
and Science is added to the gpredict desktop file. This will make
gpredict show up in several places in the menu, making it easier to
find, and avoid it showing up in lost+found for those without the
extra-xdg-menus package installed. Those with the package installed
will still find it in the HamRadio toplevel menu, as well as several
other locations. :) The patch is tested and found to be working.

Bug#567637: grub-probe fails to detect ext3 on raid1 (software raid on md0)

2010-01-31 Thread Torsten Landschoff
Hi grub team.

After upgrading my system, configuration of grub failed. I noticed but thought
that the old installation in /boot should still work fine.

That turned out to be wrong. When booting the system the next day, I ended up
in grub rescue mode. My interaction went like this:

grub rescue insmod linux
error: the symbol `grub_env_find´ not found.
grub rescue linux
Unknown command `linux´

So my system was unbootable. I think on upgrade, the old grub installation
should be still available if the new grub does not install. This is probably
more of an upstream problem...

Anyway, it turned out that downgrading to 1.98~20100115-1 fixed the problem.
The step that is failing is grub-probe trying to determine the filesystem on
/dev/md0.

Greetings, Torsten

Bug#567771: network-manager: NM no longer connects via RealTek r8169 Ethernet driver

2010-01-31 Thread Hudson Quintaro
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.7.999-2
Severity: important

Network-manager no longer manages connections via
my motherboard's built-in RealTek RTL-8169 Gigabit
Ethernet driver (module r8169). However, a simple sudo
dhclient brings up the corresponding network interface
eth2. (Suspiciously this also brings up another interface
called pan0).

Interestingly, network-manager recognizes and automatically
connects when I plug in my ADMtek USB to Lan Converter
(ADMtek ADM8511 Pegasus II Ethernet, module pegasus),
which maps to the eth3 interface.

This suggests that this NM bug may affect only connections
made via the r8169 driver.

Bug#567772: geomview: should depend on alternative PDF viewers in addition to xpdf

2010-01-31 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: geomview
Version: 1.9.4-1
Severity: normal

geomview depends on xpdf. That's not the only (X11-based) PDF viewer
and I suspect geomview do not need anything specific to xpdf (do any
such feature even exist?).

Also, I have heard rumors that xpdf is being phased out.

All in all, please consider adding fallback-dependency on pdf-viewer.
And also consider changing to depend on evince (and still fallback-
depend on pdf-viewer).

Bug#567773: kicad: Please do not pull in extra-xdg-menus by default and please add desktop file to Education and Science categories

2010-01-31 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: kicad
Version: 0.0.20090216-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertag: debian-edu

I discovered this issue with Debian Edu. The KDE menu in Debian Edu
based on Squeeze have very many main categories on the top level, and
it would be better if the HamRadio and Electronics menus were removed
and the menu entries currently located there are moved to other
fitting locations.

The problem is that it is not possible to remove the extra-xdg-menus
package without also removing kicad, and since recommends are
installed automatically by Debian Installer in Squeeze, having
extra-xdg-menus as a recommended package will still pull it in by
default.

Because of this, I hope you can move extra-xdg-menus from depends to
suggests, and add Education and Science as categories in the desktop
file.

Those with extra-xdg-menus will still find the package in the
Electronics menu, while those without it will find it elsewhere in the
menu. :)

Bug#562974: quassel-client: Quassl client segfaults on first run

2010-01-31 Thread Thomas Müller
Am Dienstag, 29. Dezember 2009 schrieben Sie:
 Package: quassel-client

 Justification: renders package unusable

When I install quassel-client from Debian sid and run it on
my system, I get the following output:

It seems to be segfaulting. Do you have any suggestions?

Does it work for others? If so, maybe there's something environmental
on my system it's allergic to, and we can get a fix upstreamed.

(I'm happy to let the maintainer or other Quassel developers log in to my

Bug#567774: apache2.2-common: File /etc/apache2/magic missing

2010-01-31 Thread Andreas von Heydwolff
Package: apache2.2-common
Version: 2.2.9-10+lenny4
Severity: normal

Some software needs the file /etc/apache2/magic, in my case
the latest SunRay Server Software SRSS4.2 by Sun/now Oracle.
A certain script from this software decides whether it is running
on Linux or Solaris by checking for the presence of that file.

While this alone may not suffice for a bug report, I noticed
that apt-file does report /etc/apache2/magic being part of the
package apache2.2-common, therefore it seems to me this file would
need to be actually added, or deleted from the file index as well.

Bug#567776: scponly: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2010-01-31 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: scponly
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
--languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
Language-Team field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to debian-i...@lists.debian.org with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

thankyou

OK, I've looked at the problem closer and can indeed see it. I'm not
sure why it didn't appear before; perhaps it was screen doing things.

The problem is that the piped program has a tpgid that is different
to its tgid. It want's the tpgid program which is the yes or whatever
you kill.

The offending line is:
 if(tmp-tgid != tmp-tpgid) continue;

Removing that doesn't seem to cause any problems. I might have to look
closer into it and see if it is required.

Bug#462753: libao2: need to clear the final period in alsa driver before closing it.

2010-01-31 Thread Monty Montgomery
Morita,

I've committed a test fix for the VIA end-of-playback click problem to
xiph.org's libao SVN in revision 16861. This is using a strategy
different than the one you suggested and I'm interested to see if it
works:

svn co http://svn.xiph.org/trunk/ao -r 16861

It will build and install in /usr/local/lib by default. The libao in
SVN right now is an API/ABI break from previous releases (though there
are no changes that affect compilation). Please verify that your test
program sees the right libao library (ldd libaobug | grep libao shold
report libao.so.4 insetad of libao.so.2).

Also, by default libao will not use alsa mmap access; not using mmap
is more likely to work properly. I would also be interested in
knowing if my changes affect mmap playback for VIA, which was also
previously known to be broken with crackles between every transfer,
due to the same alignment issues.

This can be done in your test program by adding:

  ao_option *o=NULL;
  ao_append_option(o,use_mmap,yes);

and passing the option struct to the device open:

  device = ao_open_live(driver_id, format, o);

Thank you for your time and attention! I look forward to hearing about
the results of both tests.

Monty

XMLBeans is a technology for accessing XML by binding it to Java types.
 .
XMLBeans provides several ways to get at the XML, including:
  * Through XML schema that has been compiled to generate Java
types that represent schema types. In this way, you can access
instances of the schema through JavaBeans-style accessors after
the fashion of getFoo and setFoo.
The XMLBeans API also allows you to reflect into the XML schema
itself through an XML Schema Object model.
  * A cursor model through which you can traverse the full XML infoset.
  * Support for XML DOM.

(You didn't actually send a copy to Penny, adding him to the Cc's.)

If this affected lenny-squeeze upgrades, perl-base would definitely
need a Conflicts entry for earlier versions of safe-rm.

I see the unfortunate English.pm dependency was present in versions
0.5-0.7, so this does not seem to be the case as lenny was released
with 0.3.

However, Ubuntu has apparently made a stable release with safe-rm 0.6-2
(and perl 5.10.0-24ubuntu4), so this is going to hurt their users anyway.

I suppose I will just bite the bullet and add the Conflicts entry.
I'm taking the liberty of reassign the bug. I'm downgrading the severity
though, because this is not critical for Debian.

Bug#567712: Debug-Session: Only occurs after suspend/resume cycle

2010-01-31 Thread Alexander Neumann
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.9.1-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

After debugging some time, I found out that this problem just occurs after a
suspend/resume cycle (to ram, using pm-suspend triggered via acpid). One
more symptom: In the session before the lockup, the complete screen slides
to the left side for a very short time (perhaps ~100ms). If that happens,
the video output locks up while/after playing video (happens with mplayer
and flashplugin-nonfree).

The color is not always black, this morning I was watching a flash video,
the system locks and the screen stayed light blue. I was able to switch to
the console (without any video output), log in as root and reboot the
machine.

Any ideas on how to debug this further?

Regards,
- Alexander

Package: ripperx
Version: 2.7.2-2

When a cd is inserted and CDDB is returning a column ':' in the title
AND when the title us used to create the filename, ripperX will
complain:

Error when locking file
Make sure the WAV dir and MP# dir paths are correct and you have
permission to write to these directories

Bug#557929: possible breaking ssh is RC

2010-01-31 Thread Andreas Barth
severity 557929 serious
thanks

Hi,

I'm going to set this bug report again to an release critical
severity, for the plain reason that we cannot release Debian with this
bug present.

The bug severity is just a helper to make sure the release management
knows about all release critical issues, and can monitor them. Nothing
more but nothing less, so please keep this bug at that severity.

About the bug itself: How about e.g. adding an transition package
libkrb53 to unstable which depends on libk5crypto and also libk5crypto
breaks the lenny libkrb53. That together would makes sure that the
breakage doesn't happen? That transition package can then be dropped
after one release cycle. (Please just say if that's a silly idea.)

The same is true for all other split off packages of course.

Please also remember that easy and painless upgrades are one of
Debians major strength, together with really stable software and
getting rid of all the minor hassels that make the life of system
administrators hard. I'd like to see squeeze as another success story
from Debian, as our previous release already are.

Cheers,
Andi

Bug#567554: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#567554: Privilege escalation in mount.cifs

2010-01-31 Thread Christian PERRIER
Quoting Moritz Muehlenhoff (j...@debian.org):
 Package: smbfs

 This is CVE-2009-3297:
 https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6853

 /usr/share/doc/smbfs/TODO.Debian states:
There is concern about the setuid status of binaries in this package.
The audit status of the concerned binaries is unclear. We should
figure out whether it is reasonable to provide the flexible user mount
capabilities or whether a more restricted setup is better, at least by
   default.

Given that Jeremy Allison writes in the bug above you should probably
 drop the setuid for Squeeze:

My concern here is that it would definitely be a regression for users
who rely on user mounting of CIFS volumes.

A compromise could be a debconf question about adding the setuid bit
to mount.cifs (with a default to False, of course).

Steve, your advice?

Hi,

libnamespace-clean-perl in stable needs a dependency on
libscope-guard-perl. It is unusable if the latter package is not
installed.

Is this deemed important enough by the RM to warrant a stable upload?
I have attached a proposed fix.

Could you provide a bit more detail, such as which type of
error sbuild gives? Are we talking about errors during a
build, when initially starting up, when fetching sources?

So I just had an example of this. When run manually, I get:
W: No chroots are defined in '/etc/schroot/schroot.conf'
W: The specified chroots are not defined in '/etc/schroot/schroot.conf'
Chroot for distribution unstable, architecture powerpc not found

Are the errors reported in the package build log, or in
 the main log (build-xxx)?

The daemon.log file shows:
Jan 31 11:20:15 buildd[2205]: sbuild failed with status 255/0
Jan 31 11:20:15 buildd[2205]: Assuming all packages unbuilt and adding to REDO:
Jan 31 11:20:15 buildd[2205]: package_version
Jan 31 11:20:15 buildd[2205]: sbuild now failed 21 times in a row; going to
sleep

And the build/ dir contains a bunch of 0 length log files, there
is no log file for the package itself.

Without manually running sbuild, I have no clue what is going on.

Would it not be better to encode the website in UTF-8?

Now UTF8 is a defacto charset standard in Debian and other

The main specific issue of moving the english version over other

Bug#555628: [done]: bootstrap of ghc6 on kfreebsd-amd64

 Great!

I've just checked that once the patch you mentioned applied, I'm able
to build ghc6 using your package. So: please, Haskell folks, merge it
as soon as you have a chance. :)

I hope that upload of ghc6 6.12 into unstable will be soon, so we
do not have to bother with 6.10 series for kfreebsd-amd64.

Maybe Haskell folks have a timeline for 6.12 in unstable?

Bug#567784: puppetmaster - Insists in using password auth via TCP to postgresql

2010-01-31 Thread Bastian Blank
Package: puppetmaster
Version: 0.25.1-3
Severity: important

puppetmaster insists in using a TCP connection to the postgresql server
instead of the UNIX socket. The postgresql library hardcodes localhost
to use the UNIX socket and I have explicitely set dbserver to localhost.

This can be a security bug as remote (TCP) access usually a passwort for
the role, while access via UNIX sockets is done without.

Bug#516336: haskell-utils: FTBFS: Not in scope: `readPackageDescription'

It looks like we have a problem then. At the bottom of this mail you can
find the output of a (dry-run-mode) attempt of removing haskell-utils
from the archive. There are 24 packages in unstable which still depend
on haskell-utils, so it can't be removed naively.

From what I could see, all these packages, excluding hmake, only depends
on haskell-utils in hurd-i386, ia64 and m68k, which are platforms where
ghc6 was not upgraded to the current version.

What are your (as in debian-haskell) plans about this? I see only two
possibilities: or you envisage migrating all such packages to
haskell-devscripts (modulo some transitive removals of some of them)

We've done this already for all listed packages but hmake. As no one
replied till now about the use of hmake, I think it should be removed
too.

I think the main problem here is the upgrade of ghc6 on these three
architectures. I'll investigate on this issue.

Ciao!

http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/menu-policy/ch2.html#s2.1
specifies that Here is the authoritative list of Debian's menu
structure. **Packages must be placed in leaf sections.** (emphasis
mine).

On Sun, Jan 31, 2010 at 12:02:25PM +0100, Petter Reinholdtsen wrote:

So it's my understanding that this placement is wrong.
I have no app entries in the App-Network submenu, instead they are
under App-Network-Communication, App-Network-Web_Browsing, etc.
Same for other submenus.

I can't find any reference to this arrangement in DP or maintainer
manuals, nor I have installed any package that do this. I carefully
check the menu files in my boxes and can't found any app showing up in
two places.
Anyone can comment on this point, please?

(IMHO it's not good to get a bigger or longer menu, so showing several
entries for one app is at least questionable on this point.)

find, and avoid it showing up in lost+found for those without the
extra-xdg-menus package installed. Those with the package installed
Would be better if we depend on extra-xdg-menus?

Thanks,
Fer

Bug#567677: Server sometimes crashes when closing OpenGL programs

2010-01-31 Thread Patrik Olsson
I don't know, but I don't think so since none of the lines changed in
that commit are actually reached before the crash (at least for that
drawable). Furthermore, it appears to fix a problem in more recent API.
The only part of the patch that applies on version 2:1.7.4-2 is the
extraction of the ending of the DRI2DestroyDrawable into
DRI2FreeDrawable, which is still equivalent.

I think the problem is here (#4 in backtrace, __glXDRIdrawableDestroy in
glx/glxdri2.c):

/* If the X window was destroyed, the dri DestroyWindow hook will
 * aready have taken care of this, so only call if pDraw isn't NULL. */
if (drawable-pDraw != NULL)
DRI2DestroyDrawable(drawable-pDraw);

It assumes that drawable-pDraw has been set to NULL if it is already
freed. However, wherever it is freed this pointer is not set to NULL
afterwards (at least that's what I suspect). I don't know where I can
find the code of the dri DestroyWindow hook, though.

/Patrik

Yes.

It is bad english in the output of tc combined with bad timing since

Bug#567789: celestia-kde: Please link with KDE 4 libraries

2010-01-31 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: celestia-kde
Version: 1.6.0+dfsg-1
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
UserTags: debian-edu

I discovered this issue when testing Debian Edu based on Squeeze. The
desktop environment is KDE 4, while some packages still link with KDE
3, thus increasing the disk and DVD footprint.

The celestia-kde package is one of the few that still link with the
KDE 3 libraries. Please rebuild it using the KDE 4 libraries to allow
us to increase the amount of useful packages we can fit on our DVD,
and to reduce the disk footprint of the installed packages.

Happy hacking,

Bug#564661: libgsasl7: did not work any auth metods

2010-01-31 Thread Emmanuel Bouthenot

 For me output is:
 ---
 Authentication library: GNU SASL
 Supported authentication methods:
cram-md5 digest-md5 gssapi external login ntlm
 ---

and what about the following commands (you will probably need to
install the gsasl package):

# gsasl --client-mechanisms
# gsasl --smtp -m PLAIN smtp.yandex.ru 25
