Bug#560398: eclipse: Eclipse does not start: JVM terminated. Exit code=127
Hi! * Niels Thykier ni...@thykier.net [2009-12-10 22:47:56 CET]: Thank you for taking your time to report this bug. I believe you are suffering from #507536[1] in one of its many forms. There some who have reported a workaround that you can try[2]. We are preparing an upload of eclipse soon; but I seriously doubt we will be able to backport it to stable. If installing xulrunner-dev works around the issue I think it might be a valid option for a minimal approach to get it fixed in stable. Or is the showIntro=false hack possible to ship in a system wide configuration file? That would also be a valid option. Stating that one doesn't want to fix it in stable somehow leaves the impression that the packagers think that eclipse in stable is not to be supported - and somehow suggests that the release team should get it removed with the next point release. Bug#574073: kvm: No useful error message when hugepages are not available
Russell Coker wrote: Package: kvm Version: 72+dfsg-5~lenny5 Severity: normal When the path specified by -mem-path isn't writable the error message mkstemp: Permission denied is displayed on stderr - which means that it can't be seen until after the kvm session is ended when using the -curses option. Russell, it's the same thing as #574063 again. If you redirected stderr to /dev/null, please don't complain that you see no useful error message. With -curses the current terminal is used for entirely different purpose (guest output), and if you at the same time want to see stderr, redirect it to a file or a pipe, or use some management software. Generally, and it applies to #574063 too, kvm lacks control over failure reaction: here when it is unable to allocate hugepages, and in #574063, when it can't initialize /dev/kvm, and in some other cases, it currently continues, but sometimes it is useful to stop here with error. There is no way currently to tell kvm to turn such warning messages into fatal errors. Also the error message doesn't have an obvious meaning. Yes, this is a valid point, and I think I'll get it fixed. I'll close this bug if you don't have further points. By the way, 0-72 version as shipped in Lenny is a joke nowadays. It is not a bad development snapshot, but it is still a development snapshot, just like all other kvm-NN releases were. If you intend to play or even use kvm, grab it from backports (it's called qemu-kvm there) - this version is a bit closer to released software than kvm-72 in lenny. I for one will not try to support it in any way, unless the same problem exists in qemu-kvm-0.12. And thank you for bringing this option under my attention - I overlooked it somehow until you pointed me it. Bug#574084: Tomcat6 init script fails to clean up stale pid file
Package: tomcat6 Version: 6.0.24-3 Tags: patch In the case where tomcat is no longer running but the pid file still exists, the init script simply does nothing with the stop action, and start and restart fail with already running. The admin needs to manually remove the stale pid to get the daemon back. The attached patch fixes these issues with a slight logic change. The basic idea is that if no pid file exists we know for a fact that stop should do nothing and restart should just start the daemon, and in all cases where a pid file does exist (regardless of the daemon running or not) we still need to at the very least clean up after a crashed daemon (by removing the pid file, the tmp directory, etc). The attached patch implements this basic idea. I have been running my extremely crashy tomcats with it for a few days now without any problems, I consider it to be fairly well tested and stable at this point. -- Arto Jantunen --- tomcat6.orig 2010-03-12 15:42:52.0 +0200 +++ tomcat6 2010-03-12 16:04:25.0 +0200 @@ -212,24 +212,22 @@ log_daemon_msg Stopping $DESC $NAME set +e - start-stop-daemon --test --start --pidfile $CATALINA_PID \ - --user $TOMCAT6_USER --exec $JAVA_HOME/bin/java \ - /dev/null - if [ $? = 0 ]; then - log_progress_msg (not running) - else + if [ -f $CATALINA_PID ]; then start-stop-daemon --stop --pidfile $CATALINA_PID \ --user $TOMCAT6_USER \ --retry=TERM/20/KILL/5 /dev/null - if [ $? -eq 3 ]; then + if [ $? -eq 1 ]; then + log_progress_msg $DESC is not running but pid file exists, cleaning up + elif [ $? -eq 3 ]; then PID=`cat $CATALINA_PID` log_failure_msg Failed to stop $NAME (pid $PID) exit 1 - else - rm -f $CATALINA_PID fi + rm -f $CATALINA_PID + rm -rf $JVM_TMP + else + log_progress_msg (not running) fi - rm -rf $JVM_TMP log_end_msg 0 set -e ;; @@ -253,9 +251,7 @@ set -e ;; restart|force-reload) -if start-stop-daemon --test --stop --pidfile $CATALINA_PID \ - --user $TOMCAT6_USER --exec $JAVA_HOME/bin/java \ - /dev/null; then + if [ -f $CATALINA_PID ]; then $0 stop sleep 1 fi

tags 520927 moreinfo thanks Hello Jenny, Back in March 2009, you reported a bug about file corruption when dumping filesystems. Bdale Garbee, who maintains the relevant package asked the upstream author (Stelian Pop) whether that rings some bells for him. Stelian answered the following, which was apparently never forwarded to you (or at least in a visible way). This sounds like some tests could be done on your side. Hopefully, you're still in position to do them... Stelian Pop's answer: On Mon, Aug 31, 2009 at 05:15:37PM -0600, Bdale Garbee wrote: One of the users of my Debian package of dump reported repeatable corruption when using dump over rmt to a remote tape drive. See the item in our bug tracking system at http://bugs.debian.org/520927 for more information. I've poked around a bit, but it won't be easy for me to reproduce the problem. Does this ring any bells with you? This sounds a lot like the kind of problems that can be encountered when dumping a live filesystem. In order to completly rule out any network related corruptions, I would suggest to try doing a dumping locally (into a file in /tmp for example), and try restoring (or comparing) this dump. As for the live filesystem problem, the only way to confirm that this is the cause is, well, to umount (or mount R/O) the filesystem before dumping. While you're at it, try to force a fsck on this filesystem, just in case the filesystem is really corrupt... Bug#433462: Suggestions to fix #433462 (add free space info to reportbug)
On mar., 2010-03-16 at 00:12 +0100, Sandro Tosi wrote: - what free space information you'd like? (I'd propose only the count of free MB) - what directory to show in the report? (I'd propose /, /var, /usr, /etc if the latter 3 not in / but not going recursively under them) Imho you need to show the directories where the program would need to write. So /tmp, /var, /home (hmhmh...), stuff like that. I'm not sure /etc and /usr are valid here, except in few cases (like when upgrading packages). Although this package is not in Debian, and nothing in Debian breaks (TTBOMK) because of this, strictly technically speaking it is a release-critical bug that we'd like to fix for squeeze. I wonder, why only for squeeze, if it is release-critical? Would you consider to try to fix it for lenny too, for which it was original reported and which is our supported stable release? I don't think the bug is serious enough to warrant a stable update, but I don't mind to fix it for lenny too if the SRMs believe we should. As I said, no *official* package is affected. Sourcing GNUstep.sh is required to set up some environment variables providing access to tools, apps and frameworks installed under ~/GNUstep (i.e. GNUSTEP_INSTALLATION_DOMAIN=USER), and one would have to install gnustep-make to build and install stuff there anyway. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#574087: (bugreport 573327) confirmation of initial problem and change of behaviour
Subject: Re: confirmation of initial problem and change of behaviour Package: wireless-tools Version: 30~pre9-4 Severity: grave I did observe the same behaviour (as in bug 573327) two weeks (or so) ago on my laptop with atheros Wifi-lan, therefore I switched back to a wired connection again. To me it sees to be related with the inability of iwconfig to associate the wireless card to my acces-point. Currently the garbling of the essid apears to have been solved. But iwconfig is still not able to associate my atheros (lspci: 04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)) to the accesspoint as before the beginning of february 2010. Under Kubuntu-9.04 on the same machine the connection is functional, so to me it looks like a debian-problem. Reverting back to version wireless-tools 28-1 did not solve the problem for my case, so to me its a bit confusing. Another small confusion was the change of name of the interface from ath0 to wlan0 after I finished a fresh debian install. The problem persists in both stock kernel 2.6.32-3-686 and my own 2.6.33. please tell me if, and which other piece(s) of information you might require to solve this, I 'd be gratefull for a solution (I 'd like to stick to Debian like I did since Guus gave me those install CD's some 11 years ago on the Warande) Example: r...@hugin]/root/Wlan/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 essid asgard r...@hugin]/root/Wlan/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 key XX r...@hugin]/root/Wlaniwconfig lono wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:asgard Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=20 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Encryption key:------XX Power Management:off pan0 no wireless extensions. but when issueing: /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 ap 00:13:10:3F:73:AF The value for Access Point remains Not Associated and the essid disappears completely. would be nice to have this fixed, please ask me if you need additional information. regards, Hans de Jonge -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers oldstable APT policy: (500, 'oldstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.33-2-hdj32 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=nl_NL.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to nl_NL.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages wireless-tools depends on: ii libc6 2.10.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libiw30 30~pre9-4 Wireless tools - library wireless-tools recommends no packages. wireless-tools suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#573636: diakonos fails to start
Hi, thanks for your patch. However I think it's slightly wrong. You are using dpatch without having dpatch as build-depend. When you have dpatch as b-d, why not use /usr/share/dpatch/dpatch.make and it's magic targets? Using build-stamp: patch-stamp clean: unpatch should be enough (you do not need to unclean before unpatching, because you are not patching any makefiles or smth involved in the clean process). *However* I'd not use dpatch at all here. Maintainer already has direct changes to files in his .diff.gz (lib/diakonos.rb and lib/diakonos/help.rb) and I think forcing him to some patch system he is not (yet) using is the wrong way *here* (don't understand me wrong, I'm all for patch systems [even if I prefer quilt over dpatch] but here we are not the maintainer and should adapt his workflow). Here's one strange reason: % time sudo sh -x /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg [...] + GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT=gfxterm + [ -n ] + path=/usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 + is_path_readable_by_grub /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 + path=/usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 + test -e /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 + : + /usr/sbin/grub-probe -t fs /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 ^C sudo sh -x /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg 0,13s user 0,14s system 24% cpu 1,081 total By the time I noticed this and interrupted it for the sake of demonstration, it had already spent a second - so it's clearly slow enough for the human eye to notice :) The execution time of that exact command on my system is: % time sudo /usr/sbin/grub-probe -t fs /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 ext2 sudo /usr/sbin/grub-probe -t fs /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 0,07s user 0,08s system 11% cpu 1,253 total % time sudo /usr/sbin/grub-probe -t fs /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 ext2 sudo /usr/sbin/grub-probe -t fs /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 0,07s user 0,08s system 11% cpu 1,336 total % time sudo /usr/sbin/grub-probe -t fs /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 ext2 sudo /usr/sbin/grub-probe -t fs /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 0,07s user 0,08s system 11% cpu 1,322 total This is the default else case, where you check pkgdatadir, i.e. something that is shipped with the package - so why do something that does nothing else but verify basic sanity of the installation? A simple test -e should suffice to account for e.g. a dpkg-divert... I guess it's fine to use the expensive grub-probe-forking logic in the case of a $GRUB_FONT - who knows where the user might have put it. Yet even then it's still very much unlikely they put it out of reach, and after all the analogous logic in /etc/grub.d/00_header should barf on them anyway :) Please fix this. TIA. -- 2. Bug#573942: Bug 573942
The library in libtacacs+1-dev does not provide any functionality of regexp.c. It is merely used for tac_plus. So the manpage should be removed from that package. Bug#569094: aatv: 569094: initial libv4l1 port attempt
Hi Uwe, I made an initial attempt at a patch (attached) to port aatv to libv4l1. I tested with a webcam at the BSP, but I could not get it to return data from the webcam. I suspect someone with knowledge of V4L2 should port the app to the proper V4L2 APIs instead. Alternatively, since mplayer has a V4L driver and can output colour on the console using libcaca, aatv could simply be removed from the archive. Bug#538650: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the motion package
Dear maintainer of motion and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the motion Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es fr gl ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the motion package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Monday, March 22, 2010. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Thursday, March 11, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 : send this notice Monday, March 22, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Tuesday, March 23, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Tuesday, March 30, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR em...@address, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: j...@apuntale.com\n POT-Creation-Date: 2007-11-02 20:04-0400\n PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n Last-Translator: FULL NAME em...@address\n Language-Team: LANGUAGE l...@li.org\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. Bug#496632: It's neither gtk_window_present, nor the urgency hint; it's a RIDDLE!
After reading what James wrote[0], I went to investigate this a bit. 0. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=486570#15 First, I found the single call to gtk_window_present in the Firefox source and disabled it: --- a/widget/src/gtk2/nsWindow.cpp +++ b/widget/src/gtk2/nsWindow.cpp @@ -1406,7 +1406,7 @@ nsWindow::SetFocus(PRBool aRaise) owningWindow-mContainerBlockFocus = PR_TRUE; // Set focus to the window -if (gRaiseWindows aRaise toplevelWidget +if (0 gRaiseWindows aRaise toplevelWidget !GTK_WIDGET_HAS_FOCUS(toplevelWidget) owningWindow-mIsShown GTK_IS_WINDOW(owningWindow-mShell)) gtk_window_present(GTK_WINDOW(owningWindow-mShell)); and built new packages, but the problem remained. However, I found a couple of curiousities. I have three heads one two graphics cards, and I use Zaphod mode to put them all next to each other. head 0 is on GPU 0, and heads 12 are on GPU 1. 1. the focus is never stolen when the Firefox window is on heads 12, not even if the link is clicked on another head. 2. if I move the window from head 0 to head 1 and back, then it no longer steals focus, not even if the click is on a separate head. 3. if I move the window from head 0 to head 1, click a link, and move it back to head 0, then the focus stealing happens again. I then went back to investigate these three points with the original Firefox packages, i.e. without the above patch, and the behaviour is identical. Then I investigated the urgency hint, using xprop -spy: I started it in a terminal, then X-pasted a link into that terminal and clicked it. I did this to avoid changing focus with the mouse while testing. There was nothing in the output of xprop -spy mentioning an urgency hint. I did verify that xprop -spy shows the urgency hint, using URxvt.urgentOnBell and echo -e '\a'. This is starting to feel a bit like a riddle. Bug#433462: Suggestions to fix #433462 (add free space info to reportbug)
The following message is a courtesy copy of an article that has been posted to gmane.linux.debian.devel.general as well. [Sandro Tosi] - what directory to show in the report? (I'd propose /, /var, /usr, /etc if the latter 3 not in / but not going recursively under them) I would suggest to include all directories relevant for the package at hand. Look at the file list for the package, and report all partitions touched by the package, as well as /tmp/ and /var/lib/dpkg/ if those are on separate partitions. Bug#573100: vlc: No sound after restoring session
It seem to be solved due to recent upgrade of debian sound system (1.2.14-4) and gstreamer (0.10.19-1)... I tried 2 or 3 hibernate/restore cycle and vlc is working with sound every time... So I can't reproduce it any more ! Regards Mourad Le 08/03/2010 23:26, mourad a écrit : Package: vlc Version: 1.0.5-1 Severity: important Hi ! I don't know where to post that bug... Adrian-Ken, do you need help with this bug? It seems quite trivial to fix by adding the proper -L option. Note that this package is the last Ada package that has not yet transitioned to gnat-4.4 in testing; this bug prevents removal of gnat-4.3. Bug#573636: diakonos fails to start
Evgeni Golov evg...@debian.org writes: You are using dpatch without having dpatch as build-depend. When you have dpatch as b-d, why not use /usr/share/dpatch/dpatch.make and it's magic targets? Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip. Yes, I used dpatch just to make it clear that the shebang change is Debian specific. I have no strong opinion on whether/which patch systems are used here. PS: if you want, i can upload the patch/NMU after you fixed the point(s) above :) Thanks, but not really for now. I also think that it would be definitely better for the bug to be fixed by the maintainer :-) Regards, -- Daiki Ueno -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#574088: grub-mkconfig GRUB_FONT_PATH determined by expensive is_path_readable_by_grub()

TIA. It does more than this. It checks that those files aren't on a configuration inaccessible to grub. I’ll keep your bugreport open and marked as wont-fix for future reference. If you use xscreensaver, you can easily configure it using the xscreensaver configuration tool. I use gnome-screensaver. Not sure if it is appropriate to provide two .desktop files for the users of gnome-screensaver; it goes against the GNOME philosophy of having not too many configuration options. Several screensavers from the xscreensaver used to correspond to multiple choice, but it looks that it is no more the case. Thus I support your choice of not shipping several desktop files. I think you can override the defaults by placing a .desktop file somewhere in ~/.config – I’m not aware of the defaults ATM. If you figure out how to do that, and provide me with a suitable .desktop, I can add it to /usr/share/doc/unicode-screensaver/examples and add a note to README.Debian where to install that. Bug#573989: unicode-screensaver: repeats same characters again and again

Nevertheless, I see certain characters much more frequently than one would expect by chance. I expect a more appropriate distribution of characters, as if one were using a real random source. it’s hard to judge if this is the case. The randomization code looks good to me, but I might be wrong. It will have a slight preference for characters in the smaller Font, and for characters appearing in both fonts (FreeSans and DejaVu Sans). Do you have both of these fonts installed? Bug#574073: kvm: No useful error message when hugepages are not available
On Tue, 16 Mar 2010, Michael Tokarev m...@tls.msk.ru wrote: When the path specified by -mem-path isn't writable the error message mkstemp: Permission denied is displayed on stderr - which means that it can't be seen until after the kvm session is ended when using the -curses option. Russell, it's the same thing as #574063 again. If you redirected stderr to /dev/null, please don't complain that you see no useful error message. But when an application redirects it's own output to /dev/null it's something that needs to be fixed - I've filed Debian bug reports about that before. With -curses the current terminal is used for entirely different purpose (guest output), and if you at the same time want to see stderr, redirect it to a file or a pipe, or use some management software. Or kvm could use syslog or some other mechanism for logging such things. The lack of a way to turn warnings into fatal errors is a bug. Think of -Werror for C compilation. I for one will not try to support it in any way, unless the same problem exists in qemu-kvm-0.12. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=574060 My first attempt at reporting such bugs involved reproducing some of them on Unstable, but unfortunately they got lost (see the above reportbug bug). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. And only one, that xmonad says is: user error (createFontSet), for each window. It's very difficult do understand whats wrong. So. xmonad must explain this problem more clearly. xmonad must not heavily depend on fonts from optional packages. May be it should use fixed font, that ever exists. Or include xfonts-base into depends for libghc6-xmonad-contrib-dev so, you do not have xfonts-base installed when the error occurs, and the error disappears if you install that package, right? Does this mean that $ xfontsel -pattern -misc-fixed-*-*-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-* says no names match? I think that a fixed font should be available on all systems, so I think adding xfont-base to the depends of libghc6-xmonad-contrib-dev (or xmonad) is the correct thing to do. Petr Salinger, le Mon 08 Jun 2009 14:07:07 +0200, a écrit : Also, is sharing between ***processes*** really necessary ? Please note (man sem_init): The pshared argument indicates whether this semaphore is to be shared between the threads of a process, or between processes. It looks like sharing between ***threads of a process*** should be sufficient. Given it would be true, just twice change sem_init(s,1,...) into sem_init(s,0,...). It would also be nice if you can inform upstream about this issue. Apparently they fixed the code: it now reads as static void os_mutex_init(os_mutex_t *s) { sem_init(s, 0, 1); } which indeed doesn't use process sharing. I guess 04_improve_semaphore_detection.diff can now be dropped. Samuel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? I can't see any major changes in the forcedeth driver since 2.6.30. I scanned what changelogs I could find also and nothing jumped out at me that could be the cause of this. We will shortly update the official kernel packages to incorporate this release, so you could just wait a day or two and update. However I'm not aware of any changes in 2.6.32.10 that would fix this sort of bug. Again, I scanned the changelogs and nothing jumped out at me. I'll try the updated package when you release it to see if it makes a difference. Let me know if there's any further testing I can do before I roll the systems back to 2.6.30 and put them back into production. Bug#457075: Salomé packaging
Hi André, Sorry about the delay, I've been trying to get X working in a chroot but a known bug is making the keyboard and mouse not work... Copying my sid chroot into its own partition now to try to boot and test there. On Thu, 2010-03-11 at 17:23 +0100, Andre Espaze wrote: The last working version was actually the -4: c56f196854092f0dc0d222de71de1a4532f214ec Release 5.1.3-4 Look ma, it builds! That's what I thought. I tried that one today (backported to Ubuntu Karmic), and it didn't work. I guess I'll have to bring X up in the chroot to check it there, then start the bisect process. It still does not work but I wanted to let you know where I am. I have worked at revision: 862cebe157a4ce50984d6fc15758da7d3ca96e2a Thu Mar 4 20:29:30 2010 By applying the following patches on the KERNEL module: kernel-safe-include.patch kernel-mpi-includes.patch kernel-mpi-libs.patch kernel-hdf5-needs-mpi.patch kernel-remove-mpi-undefs.patch and: gui-mpich-mpi.patch on the GUI one, it works when installing it by hand in a local directory (I have used ~/sroot/). However it does not work when following the debian/rules install path. I thought that lines 206 and 207 of debian/rules where the problem: mv debian/tmp/usr/bin/*.py \ $(CURDIR)/debian/tmp/usr/lib/python2.5/*-packages/salome/ chmod -x $(CURDIR)/debian/tmp/usr/lib/python2.5/*-packages/salome/* but it is not enough to make it works. I thought that might be an issue too. You might also try commenting the lines which delete the .pyc (and maybe .pyo) files from /usr/bin. Together they are supposed to make the package more efficient by shipping just .py files and having them compile at install time, but it seems like it will take some time to let Salomé know that those files are not in /usr/bin. For all the processing at line 200, I do not understand where the files are. By running for example: find /usr/ -name config_appli.xml I do not find anything however I can find this file in my local ~/sroot directory. However I may have messed the install process, I am running a new build now. Then I guess that we need to build Salome with hdf5 including mpi because we can not force the user to use libhdf5-serial when he will want to install Salome. Dealing with patches make the debuging harder for getting a first running version but I think that you have solved the problem. I have tried with and without hdf5 and I get the same behavior for the KERNEL part. Indeed. I am still waiting for the HDF5/GIS team to fix bug 510057 which has had a patch for six weeks now, so we can upload the new MED and not have to use out-of-archive packages... I keep you in touch once my new version is running, I am getting more confortable with the Debian packaging tools. Thanks, I'll let you know if I can test the unstable packages, so we can start a git bisect. -Adam -- GPG fingerprint: D54D 1AEE B11C CE9B A02B C5DD 526F 01E8 564E E4B6 Engineering consulting with open source tools http://www.opennovation.com/ signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#573848: tangogps: does not show location with gpsd 2.92-1
Imho the right solution here is to file a bug against gpsd. On the announce list of gpsd is no information whatsoever that they are going to break the API - and this breakage happens between two minor versions going from 2.90 to 2.92. It is good habit in the open source world to have a major version jump when the API is going to break, otherwise it introduces a pain in the neck for users and deveolpers the like. TangoGPS uses an gpsd API that has been around for years and the fact that ESR right out of the blue decides he doesn't want people to use it but go with his libgpsd is a rather void argument, especially with regard to the fact that libgpsd has been very buggy just two years ago. The right thing to do is to keep the gpsd API prior 2.91 around and afterwards have two gpsd, a gpsd2 package and a gpsd3 package. Concerning the patch from Timo: should work as a quick fix. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
