reassign 576309 grub-installer thanks Quoting Joao Eriberto Mota Filho (eribe...@eriberto.pro.br): Package: installation-reports Severity: minor Tags: l10n When configuring grub-pc, a sample says (in Brazilian Portuguese): - (hd2,4) ou /dev/hda utilizará a primeira partição estendida de seu terceiro disco (aqui SCSI); I think the correct is: - (hd2,4) ou /dev/sdc5 utilizará a primeira partição lógica de seu terceiro disco (aqui SCSI ou SATA); In other words: s/hda/sdc5/, s/estendida/lógica/, s/SCSI/SCSI ou SATA/. While I'm OK with s/hda/sdc5, I don't agree with other changes: - the original English talks about extended partition which seems to have been translated to partição estendida in the installer. Also, the original says here SCSI so aqui SCSI as translation seems correct What you suggest implicitly is to mention that sdc5 might be either an SCSI or SATA partition *in the original string*. That seems correct but needs to be discussed with the D-I team. Indeed, nowadays, sdcn is o longer SCSI only so that mimght need rephrasing in several places. Let's also CC the Brazilian l10n team so that they can comment (particularly on estendida vs logica. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Here's what I think we know for sure: 1) On some people's systems, /usr/bin/aptitude isn't being restored after the upgrade. 2) On other people's systems, it is. 3) I don't know why. I have some ideas about that: - People who had used an early 0.5 version, reverted to 0.4.11, and still use dpkg 1.14.x with its somewhat buggy update-alternatives implementation could be hit by it. That's not something I would worry much about. - The submitter of #575137 uses btrfs which reportedly may cause severe corruption of dpkg's database and other data: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=575891 http://kitenet.net/~joey/blog/entry/aloha_btrfs/ 4) Even if it's available under different names, /usr/bin/aptitude disappearing is a very unfriendly user experience. 5) The problem seems to be related to my attempt to use alternatives to manage /usr/bin/aptitude. I don't really think so. Well, it may be related but not _caused_ by it. I liked the idea of using the alternatives system, but it seems too fragile to be used for aptitude. Rather than trying to put a lot of effort into tracking down just what's happening, I think it's better to just back out of using alternatives entirely in favor of something more robust. With dpkg 1.15, update-alternatives should be robust enough. I would prefer if you could keep it. Running update-alternatives --display aptitude in /usr/share/bug/aptitude seems like a good idea to track down future bug reports. Bug#507003: initiatorname.iscsi should maybe not be in /etc
Hi Luk and all, On Saturday 03 Oct 2009 03:50:48 Luk Claes wrote: I investigated this bug and while the file states that it should not be changed, it's actually part of the configuration of open-iscsi. For some setup we use at work we do change the initiatorname to have the name make more sense to us. The reason the file states that the content should not be changed is that when you change it in a working setup, you break that. Similar things are true for other files in /etc though. Does this content look good to be added to README.Debian ? == The initiatorname.iscsi file defines the iSCSI Qualified Name (IQN) of the iSCSI initiator. This IQN is used by the initiator to identify itself to the target. Example: InitiatorName=iqn.1993-08.org.debian:01:lnx-debian While this name can be adjusted to suit your needs, once set, it should not be changed. If you later change the InitiatorName, existing access control lists on the target may reject the initiator to log in. In case a name change is required, the access control lists on the target will need to be updated. == Regards, Ritesh -- Ritesh Raj Sarraf RESEARCHUT - http://www.researchut.com Necessity is the mother of invention. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Bug#498616: Unmounting LVM'd isci based filesystem
Hi, I think there are 2 parts to this problem. 1) iSCSI + Multipath + LVM I am not sure how is it handle during start-up. Suppose you have 256 LUNs with 4 path each. This would result in a large 1000+ scsi device list. Discovering these many devices will take some time. And on that, dm-multipath will also take time in identifying these devices. I think to tackle iSCSI + Multipath + LVM, during start-up, we will need a custom udev rule to identify Multipathed iSCSI PVs. 2) As one, but during shutdown. Okay!! Here I think we might be in a trickier situation. To be able to unmount iSCSI + Multipath + LVM devices we need a 3 step process. a. Offline the VG b. Delete the maps c. Then stop iSCSI Currently, in iSCSI this is not handled. And I think if you have a setup like this for LUNs referenced in fstab through they LV names, iSCSI might just ignore them and shutdown the service. Thus this will lead to a hang state. To handle this scenario, I think we need a way to tear down the logical devices and identify their physical scsi devices. Once we have the scsi device names, umountiscsi.sh can determine if it is an iSCSI device or not. And if so, it will not stop the iSCSI service (Part of this change has been put into 2.0.871.3-1, pending to be uploaded to Sid) Regards, Ritesh On Monday 19 Jan 2009 04:30:29 Javier Barroso wrote: We (as debian user) have another problem with lenny and iscsi + lvm + multipath (should I open another bug?). Bug#353536: subclasses, classes which define classes
On Tue, 30 Mar 2010 21:52:27 +0100, Holger Levsen hol...@layer-acht.org said: How? (Seriously, how would you do this?) I, myself will not use subclasses. definitly be easily possible in FAI, thus either be part of the featureset or be documented well. Have a look at #498412, there's a sample implementation from Ingo, so it's already documented. You may want to add this information to the FAI wiki. I'm using some kind of subclasses for a long time now and it was really easy to implement using a single script in class/ that evaluates an extra file class/$class if class/$class exists. I'm not sure how feature-complete the FAI Guide intends to be, but maybe it could be as simple as to add references to this bug report and #468352 to Section 11 (Various Hints)? Bug#507003: initiatorname.iscsi should maybe not be in /etc
Ritesh Raj Sarraf wrote: Hi Luk and all, On Saturday 03 Oct 2009 03:50:48 Luk Claes wrote: I investigated this bug and while the file states that it should not be changed, it's actually part of the configuration of open-iscsi. == Yes, that looks fine. Bug#576262: ITP: django-countries -- Provides fixtures, models and flags for countries by ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code
Hi, I prepared an upload to mentors.d.n which includes a patch to integrate django-countries with iso-codes. Thanks for all the great feedback! http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/django-countries/django-countries_1.0.2-1.dsc Paul Wise, 2010-04-02 12:11: I suppose so, unless there are some differences. IIRC iso-codes includes lots of translations and django-countries seems to allow for translations to the country names. The translations from iso-codes are now used automatically according to the Django locale settings. I think that's really a great benefit for everyone who is going to use this package. Runtime loading of the iso-codes stuff would be better than build-depends though. The internal country list is now populated at runtime by parsing iso_3166.xml with xml.dom.minidom and it provides the three originally static lists/dicts. As for the icons I'll take a look on how to use them (and possibly the PNG variant too) directly from the famfamfam-flag-* package. Great, please do push the removal dependency upstream too. I notified upstream about my changes but I'm not sure if they will be included because they heavily depend on the availability of Debian packages. My changes will not be useful for people using it on Windows, Solaris, ... As I consider myself a poor writer of documentation someone should eventually take a look at my README.Debian to assure that it's readable and understandable for the average user. There's lots of room for improvements I guess. Kind regards, Michael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#574032: k3b should depend on hal

Without hal installed, k3b shows the following error message: No optical drive found. K3b did not find any optical device in your system. Solution: Make sure HAL daemon is running, it is used by K3b for finding devices. So, k3b without hal is rather useless. Isn't there a way that the package configuration can do this automatically? For me, it works fine without any mention at all of vpn or openvpn in /etc/init.d/dnsmasq. Is that not the case for you? No - I added the dependency in the first place because last time I rebooted dnsmasq came up before the vpn bridge, causing all sorts of problems. Please check this and keep either myself or the security team informed of the affected/not-affected issues. Thank you very much for looking into this. CVE-2006-2783[0]: | Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird before 1.5.0.4 strip the Unicode | Byte-order-Mark (BOM) from a UTF-8 page before the page is passed to | the parser, which allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site | scripting (XSS) attacks via a BOM sequence in the middle of a | dangerous tag such as SCRIPT. 3.5 kdelibs is not affected. CVE-2008-0298[1]: | KHTML WebKit as used in Apple Safari 2.x allows remote attackers to | cause a denial of service (browser crash) via a crafted web page, | possibly involving a STYLE attribute of a DIV element. Didn't check, browser crashes w/o code injection are not treated as security issues. CVE-2008-1588[2]: | Safari on Apple iPhone before 2.0 and iPod touch before 2.0 allows | remote attackers to spoof the address bar via Unicode ideographic | spaces in the URL. This is a MacOS specific vulnerability. CVE-2008-2307[3]: | Unspecified vulnerability in WebKit in Apple Safari before 3.1.2, as | distributed in Mac OS X before 10.5.4, and standalone for Windows and | Mac OS X 10.4, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service | (application crash) or execute arbitrary code via vectors involving | JavaScript arrays that trigger memory corruption. This affects kdelibs 3.5. CVE-2008-2320[4]: | Stack-based buffer overflow in CarbonCore in Apple Mac OS X 10.4.11 | and 10.5.4, iPhone OS 1.0 through 2.2.1, and iPhone OS for iPod touch | 1.1 through 2.2.1 allows context-dependent attackers to execute | arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via a | long filename to the file management API. This doesn't affect webkit or kdelibs. CVE-2008-3632[5]: | Use-after-free vulnerability in WebKit in Apple iPod touch 1.1 through | 2.0.2, and iPhone 1.0 through 2.0.2, allows remote attackers to | execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application | crash) via a web page with crafted Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) import | statements. This doesn't affect kdelibs. CVE-2008-4231[6]: | Safari in Apple iPhone OS 1.0 through 2.1 and iPhone OS for iPod touch | 1.1 through 2.1 does not properly handle HTML TABLE elements, which | allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of | service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted HTML | document. Couldn't find specific information on this. CVE-2008-4724[7]: | Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Google Chrome | 0.2.149.30 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or | HTML via an ftp:// URL for an HTML document within a (1) JPG, (2) PDF, | or (3) TXT file. Bug#576227: insserv: warning: script is corrupt or invalid: /etc/init.d/../rc6.d/S00vzreboot
Hi Christian On Sat, Apr 03, 2010 at 11:13:38AM +0200, Christian Hofstaedtler wrote: Hi Ola, * Ola Lundqvist o...@debian.org [100402 00:49]: I have never used insserv myself. Can you send me your S00vzreboot file? I need to determine why it considers it to be corrupt. Squeeze seems to install insserv by default, so this was not my choice ;-) From the source in squeeze it looks like it generates the following file: #!/bin/bash /reboot Ok. Creates a /reboot file. It must have some function in openvz to reboot it. Lenny version generates this: # cat /etc/init.d/../rc6.d/S00vzreboot #!/bin/bash //reboot Ok. Both has same function. And that is about it. It is understandable if insserv considers it to be corrupt. On the other hand, it is really just an empty file so maybe insserv should be changed here. It would be possible to generate more in that script so that insserv determines that this is something empty and ignores it. This is probably the right thing to do, even if it exposes something which looks like a hack even more. Yes. Bug#575002: cvc3: FTBFS on various archs/in various ways
Hi Chris, Christopher L Conway wrote: the problem architectures are not directly supported by upstream and I don't have access to testing machines for these architectures, I'm not sure what the correct resolution is. Should I remove these architectures in debian/control? I’d suggest something like this: 1. First, request the removal of the broken packages currently in testing. You can do this with a bug against the release.debian.org package [1]. Once this finishes, the bug is no longer release critical (though it is still important). 2. Clone this bug into separate bugs tracking information about each collection of regressions that you think will have the same fix. 3. Add information about how to track them down (a good command to run, a patch to try, whatever) to the bug log. 4. Help anyone who is interested in working on the bugs. If you have time, you can investigate further without access to a porterbox: * armel can be emulated with qemu [2]. * kfreebsd-amd64 and kfreebsd-i386 can be run natively on common hardware. Or you can run them in a virtual machine (e.g., KVM), still fairly quickly. * s390 can be emulated with hercules [3], though rather slowly. On a slow machine, this can try one’s patience, though. No need to get carried away. DDs have access to some machines [4] for porting. This is a good reason to become a DD. :) If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Bug#576309: installation-reports: [pt_BR] A mistake in grub-pc configuration phase
Hi! Thanks for your quick reply. 2010/4/3 Christian PERRIER bubu...@debian.org: While I'm OK with s/hda/sdc5, I don't agree with other changes: - the original English talks about extended partition which seems to have been translated to partição estendida in the installer. Right. But you can't put data into an extended partition and because it I am suggesting to use logical instead of extended. I think the word extended can confuse the users. Also, the original says here SCSI so aqui SCSI as translation seems correct Right. What you suggest implicitly is to mention that sdc5 might be either an SCSI or SATA partition *in the original string*. That seems correct but needs to be discussed with the D-I team. Indeed, nowadays, sdcn is o longer SCSI only so that mimght need rephrasing in several places. I agree with your idea. But think that newbies may not know about it and a purpose of the d-i is to be very easy to all. So I think the SATA word can be added to description as an extra help to new users. It is modern because SATA is a recent technology. It is relevant as additional information to users that don't know SCSI-SATA concepts. The intent is update the description to make the GRUB installation more friendly. Let's also CC the Brazilian l10n team so that they can comment (particularly on estendida vs logica. Ok. Bug#576331: Transmission 1.92 fixes two security issues
Package: transmission Severity: grave Tags: security The message below was reported on oss-security. CVE-2010-0749 seems like a regular bug to me, not necessarily security-relevant, but please upload transmission 1.92 ASAP. Lenny isn't affected, it doesn't have support for Magnet links yet. On a side note: Given that most Bittorrent trackers seem to block older clients, I think we should change the update policy for Squeeze and always introduce the recent version in stable point updates. What do you think? I'm calling it an arbitrary memory write. It's not really a buffer overflow. b, Fix possible data corruption issue caused by data sent by bad peers during endgame (this one I am not completely sure of, but when looking at the relevant bug record: [5] http://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/1242 there is written: [6] http://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/1242#comment:1 My theory is that for some reason Transmission will download a corrupt part from someone but not realize it until you do a manual verify. At this point T will recognize the bad part and redownload it from the same person, which just causes the problem again. so to prevent someone from successfully downloading content of some torrent file, for an attacker to should be enough to download a part of it, corrupt it and share it. Not sure about the algorithm, Transmission decides which torrent to retrieve content from, but if it is deterministic / predictable behavior / algorithm, such attack could succeed). References: [7] http://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/1242 [8] http://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/1242#comment:1 [9] http://trac.transmissionbt.com/wiki/Changes I'm giving this issue a CVE ID too. Bug#576305: usbmount: provide command to savely remove usb drive
Dear Thomas, 2010/4/3 Thomas Koch tho...@koch.ro: I've seen pmount, but didn't want to install it, because it requires HAL stuff. Isn't there a possibility to implement my wish without the deprecated HAL? Just to make things clearer, pmount depends on libhal, but it doesn't depend on hal or hal-info, to the best of my knowledge. I, myself, purge hal (the daemon) whenever any package that I want to try pulls it in. This recommendation was suggested to me by udev's maintainer, Marco d'Itri. But I don't know of any ready replacement for pmount (besides creating a group of users and making mount setguid that group). If you have any suggestion, please let me know and I will document it. Are you sure that the log files were still there before the restart? It seems more likely to me that logrotate rotated the logs away, but the graceful reload did not work because apache2 hung. Therefore new log files were not created. Of course there is still the question why apache2 hung in the first place. Has the problem occured again? Can you reproduce it? It would be nice to have a gdb backtrace of a hanging process. Bug#576338: [dpkg] --purge not well described in manual page dpkg.1
Package: dpkg Version: 1.15.5.6 Severity: minor Hi, man dpkg contains: -r, --remove, -P, --purge package...|-a|--pending Remove an installed package. -r or --remove remove everything except conffiles. This may avoid having to reconfigure the package if it is reinstalled later. (Conffiles are configuration files that are listed in the DEBIAN/conffiles con- trol file). -P or --purge removes everything, including conffiles. That's only partly correct. In contrast to apt-get purge, dpkg is also able to purge already removed packages. This is not well described in the manual page (Remove an installed package.). I suggest to remove installed or to rewrite it to something as Remove an (maybe partly) installed package. I think we should tag this bug squeeze-ignore; the potential of regressions at this point of the release cycle doesn't outweigh the benefit of dropping db 4.6 for Squeeze. After the Squeeze release we can remove Python 2.5 in favour of Python 2.6 (which already uses DB 4.6). Bug#576334:
Michael Tautschnig m...@debian.org reports: The problem, at least for most of the build failures, is a very simple one: An endianness issue, which actually lies in the original MiniSat code. The declaration of d_assigns in line 251 of src/sat/minisat_solver.h declares the assignments as a vector of chars; assignments happen using the toInt function from src/sat/minisat_global.h, which returns *an int*. Now a lifted Boolean just requires 2 bits and using a vector of chars may be (depending on memory alignment) less memory consuming, but an implicit cast from this int to char is bound to fail on big-endian systems. The simplest way to fix this is declaring d_assigns as a vector of ints with a corresponding fix of declarations in minisat_varorder.h; this change, however, could possibly be intrusive memory-wise and you will want to re-run CVC 3 on some SMT Comp instances and compare the performance. If you have to stick with a vector of chars, then a proper wrapper of toInt (e.g., toChar) should be added the behavior of which depends on the architecture. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. What it's doing now is dangerously wrong. Ben. This should have been fixed in recent kernels, and some patchs have been sent to stable to fix that. What kernel are you using ? *I* sent your previous patches to stable because you apparently couldn't be bothered. I know which models you have blacklisted and the 900A is not one of them. Bug#576342: pgadmin3: won't use IPv6-only server
tags 576342 - patch + upstream thanks * Bjoern Buerger debian.b...@penguin.de [2010-04-03 15:59:38 CEST]: When adding the -only fqdn of a new server to pgadmin3, I get the following error: An error has occurred: Could not resolve hostname my.host.with.aaa.only A literal IPv6 address doesn't work either. This Bug seems to be fixed in newer versions of pgadmin3, see http://code.pgadmin.org/trac/changeset/8156 for details. That changeset seems to have got reverted later, 1.10.2 was released after that change so I expect that there have been issues with it. Removed the patch tag thus.
