Bug#594113: task_manager.pl daemon failed to start

2010-08-26 Thread Emmanuel Bouthenot

Well, you not experiencing problems avoiding Recommends do not really
change the Debian definition of the Recommends: stanza:

 `Recommends'
This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency.
Nothing defines “absolute”, for me it is (absolute) because:
 - SYMPA provides a symlink to this third party package
 - a daemon fail to start without this dependency

[...]

My question is if it is *possible* to hand-tune.
Probably if you are enough skilled to understand the bug and fix it on
your own.

(As a workaround we could add a note in the README.Debian but I doubt of
its effectiveness: it looks like a bug, the first reaction would be to
check BTS rather that reading README.Debian).

[...]

You do not agree that the needed file is possible to create by other
means and with other content than installing that package?
This file should a be a bundle of root CA certificates, hence there is 2
choices:
 - You try to collect all the root CA certificates manually to build
 your own CA file
 - You install the ca-certificates package to use the CA bundle it
 provides

[...]

Because in some special cases it is not needed and gets in the way.
I agree when the Recommends add optional features which don't affect
the core program.

[...]

I do feel, however, that your arguments are tied to how you are used
to handle package relationships in the past, whereas I believe my
arguments are tied to how Debian Policy defines the package relation
 stanzas.
WE are tied on how we understand them:
« Recommends: This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency. »
What mean “absolute”?

And as I wrote earlier on to this bugreport, I do believe that if
ca-certificates missing causes sympa to consume all resources on the
system, then there is a bug in sympa code which should be filed
 separately - and passed upstream.
It's just a possible consequence, the main problem is that the
task_manager daemon doesn't starts. Whatever its role, I think it's a
big issue.

M.

Bug#594435: Quoted strings in pin specifications do not work

This implies that strings can be double-quoted and that an empty
string must be. In fact, double-quoted strings do not match their
contents; the quote characters are presumably treated literally.
Not really. It only applies to empty strings which can not be
represented otherwise in a meaningful way; for example, specifying no
value would be invalid (or should be, I did not try it).

I personally do not want quoting here, as it just complicates parsing
and breaks backwards compatibility. The documentation could state
explicitly that quotes are not supported; but this is purely a
documentation issue, and thus minor (it may also break translations of
the manpage).

Bug#578797: davical: Creating the Database fails

2010-08-26 Thread Frank Hartmann
Hi,

I found a workaround/solution:

postgres stores some information at install time about the locale:

postgresql.conf:lc_messages = 'en_US.UTF-8' # locale for sys
postgresql.conf:lc_monetary = 'en_US.UTF-8' # locale for mon
postgresql.conf:lc_numeric = 'en_US.UTF-8' # locale for num
postgresql.conf:lc_time = 'en_US.UTF-8' # locale for tim

previously that was set to de_DE which is apparently not working in
combination with davical.

Bug#594457: libconfig-inetd-perl: Package is empty

2010-08-26 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Package: libconfig-inetd-perl
Version: 0.25-1.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi

libconfig-inetd-perl is empty in squeeze and sid. Furthermore in lenny
it contains only the following files:

/usr/share/doc/libconfig-inetd-perl/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libconfig-inetd-perl/changelog.gz
/usr/share/doc/libconfig-inetd-perl/copyright
/usr/share/man/man3/Config::Inetd.3pm.gz

and in squeeze and sid:

/usr/share/doc/libconfig-inetd-perl/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libconfig-inetd-perl/changelog.gz
/usr/share/doc/libconfig-inetd-perl/copyright

The package does not have any rdepends nor build-rdeps and thus should
either be removed, or the package fixed in lenny, squeeze and sid.

Bests
Salvatore

There's few problems with this patch. By defining _LARGEFILE_SOURCE,
the source is already requesting to the system to internally remap
statfs and statvfs to statfs64 and statvfs64. And in addition
_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE just makes the explicit 64 bit versions visible,
at which point the system was alredy transparently supporting large
 files.
No, defining _FILE_OFFSET_BITS to 64 makes stat* become stat*64. The
_LARGEFILE_SOURCE and _LARGEFILE64_SOURCE defines are needed for getting
the explicit interfaces, they do not activate the implicit ones.

It unconditionally remaps itself the symbols to their 64 bit versions,
but they might not be available on the system, the correct way to check
for this is by using AC_SYS_LARGEFILE in configure.in.
Maybe in theory; in practice, it works perfectly for all our supported
architectures.

It also does not fix the casted comparisons for some of the statfs and
statvfs members which will be now 64 bit wide on 32 bit systems.
I did not find such problems when looking at it.

This problem first exposed itself after the recent x-org and kernel upgrades.
I upgraded both at the same time so I can't say for sure

Bug#594461: apt-setup: Should propose using t-p-u when testing is installed

2010-08-26 Thread Christian PERRIER
Package: apt-setup
Severity: wishlist

After a (short) discussion in -devel, I came up with the proposal of
activating testing-proposed-updates when users install testing, in a
similar way that we currently propose activating volatile when they
install stable.

So, sending this as a bug report against apt-setup. I suggest this is
done post-squeeze.

Hmhm, out of curiosity, why is t-p-u “way riskier”.

Mostly because there isn't any large pool of systems using t-p-u the way
there is for unstable, so the aging process where we get testing in
unstable before migrating the package never happens.  This means uploads

I wonder whether we (in D-I) could add t-p-u to the list of proposed
repositories when users install testing. We already propose security
and volatile (defaulting to both added): the same mechanism could be
made for t-p-u when users install testing.

Sounds like a good idea to me. When they reject t-p-u you could either
add it commented out or with pinning such that it is not selected by
default but when packages from it are selected then they are kept
upgraded within it until the packages migrate to testing itself. AFAIK
to achieve that you need pinning priorities 500 and 1000.

Bug#594093: mplayer: wrong byteorder on 16-bit displays with -vo x11 (-vo sdl works)?

2010-08-26 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Hello Reinhard,

I managed to build ffmpeg 0.6-2 on armel by forcing

has_vfp := 1
has_neon := 1

in debian/confflags. After that mplayer 1.0~rc4~try1.dsfg1-1 built
without problems and the bug is now gone, thanks!

I ran some benchmarks to ensure that we have no serious
regressions. The following is in the format

(command)
# (output with 2:1.0~rc3++final.dfsg1-1)

so that it can easily be run as a script if somebody wants to
replicate my results. /tmp/theora/lib used by the last two commands
contains the (r17262 of the) theorarm branch of libtheora that has
ARM optimizations which are not in Debian yet:

Bug#364295: fltk2 seems more or less dead

2010-08-26 Thread Axel Beckert
Hi,

JFTR: despite they updated the license in fall 2009, according to
http://www.fltk.org/articles.php?L825 and
http://fltk.org/software.php#SVN, fltk 2 is not further developed.
Instead fltk 1.3 is the active development branch and the next planned
branches are 1.4 and 3.0.

There though seem to be actively developed software (like Dillo) based
on it, so it may still be nice to have it in Debian. But it will be
more work than if there were active development on fltk 2.

I haven't, because I was trying to install Debian Stable.
I understand I could try to install Stable with the daily builds,
I've been avoiding this since there has been a lot of flux these
past few months and I was waiting for a fix for #568495.
I'll try the daily and report back.

I did try out kmuto's builds (http://kmuto.jp/debian/d-i/),
build 0116 does have support for this network card.

When I can get the current stable kernel installed (2.6.26-24lenny1)
I can report whether the card is supported or not.

Bug#592187: [stable] Bug#576838: virtio network crashes again

2010-08-26 Thread Lukas Kolbe
Hi all,

I was finally able to identify the patch series that introduced the fix
(they were introduced to -stable in 2.6.33.2):

  cb63112 net: add __must_check to sk_add_backlog
  a12a9a2 net: backlog functions rename
51c5db4 x25: use limited socket backlog
c531ab2 tipc: use limited socket backlog
37d60aa sctp: use limited socket backlog
9b3d968 llc: use limited socket backlog
230401e udp: use limited socket backlog
20a92ec tcp: use limited socket backlog
ab9dd05 net: add limit for socket backlog

After applying these to 2.6.32.17, I wasn't able to trigger the failure
  anymore.

 What failure?

230401e didn't apply cleanly with git cherry-pick on top of 2.6.32.17,
so there might be some additional work needed.

@Greg: would it be possible to have these fixes in the next 2.6.32? See
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=592187#69 for details:
they fix a guest network crash during heavy nfs-io using virtio.

These are a lot of patches, looking like they are adding a new feature.
I would need to get the ack of the network maintainer before I can add
 them.

 David?

I don't mean to nag (hm well, maybe I do) and I know you were busy
preparing the guard-page fixes, but what's the status of this? In the
meantime, we triggered this bug also on barebone hardware using nfs over
tcp with default [rw]sizes of about 1MiB. On the real hardware, the
kernel oopsed, not only the network stack ...

With these patches applied, everything works smoothly. I'd really love
to see a stable 2.6.32 ...

 thanks,

 greg k-h

The system is unstable, resets especially when I load uvesafb. When uvesafb is
loaded and I run DRBD the screen goes black. The same with pciback.hide enabled
and without pciback at all.

After starting Xen DomU with binded devices following errors appeared

Aug 25 20:17:54 debian kernel: [ 87.927850] error enable msi for guest 1
status ffea

Add pci=nomsi to kernel command line solves problem with msi errors, but still
there is MSI error when booting DomU and I can not use uvesafb (system
unstable, black screen after loading DRBD)

Kernel without Xen support seems to work properly with uvesafb and DRBD.

Bug#594461: apt-setup: Should propose using t-p-u when testing is installed

2010-08-26 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

[Christian PERRIER]
After a (short) discussion in -devel, I came up with the proposal of
activating testing-proposed-updates when users install testing, in
a similar way that we currently propose activating volatile when
 they install stable.

One challenge that should be considered, is what should happen when
testing become stable, and the meaning of testing-proposed-updates
changes.

For example now, testing-proposed-updates is packages intended for
squeeze, and after the release, it will no longer have packages
intended for squeeze.

Should those installing testing today keep using testing, or should
they get squeeze? If they should get squeeze, the
testing-proposed-update source will give them the wrong set of
packages after squeeze is released.

I believe those installing testing today should get squeeze and
continue to use squeeze after the release. At least that is what I
expect when I install testing today. I am sure others might believe
otherwise, and am not sure which view should have priority.

Happy hacking,

Bug#446888: racoon: After SA is expired it is not able to renew SA and IPSec tunnel fails.

2010-08-26 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Hi,

I think I've been hit by this bug to (not with debian but opensuse)
with the version 0.7.1. This seems fixed on version 0.7.3 (on opensuse
too).

This issue could be due to the idle feature on cisco router, after some
idle time the router sends a delete request for both the ISAKMP-SA and
IPsec-SA. Racoon 0.7.1 delete the ISAKMP-sa as requested but not the
IPsec-SA. At this point the cisco router has deleted its IPsec-sa so no
outgoing packets can be decrypted by it. When the IPSec-sa expires on
the linux machine, racoon renegotiate both isakmp-sa and ipsec-sa thus
reenabling the tunnel.

With 0.7.3 the outgoing ipsec-sa is deleted as requested, so this will
trigger the renegotiation of both isakmp-sa and ipsec-sa.

I'm not 100% sure this is the same bug I experienced but in the
original logs we can see delete requests seen nptype=12(delete) and
according to Till Kahle timmings the 30min values is the default idle
timeout on IOS according to the documentation.

Have a look at the discussion on ipsec-tools ML:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=20100825192817.1ce9d569%40valmar.bigon.beforum_name=ipsec-tools-devel

my 2¢

Cheers

Should I file a separate bug report for this regression? Are you able
 to reproduce it?

AFAIUI this requires a) arm hardare and b) an uptodate (and unpackaged)
version of libvorbis.

Since I don't have arm hardware, I don't think I can reproduce this.
Feel free to file a wishlist bug, but please don't expect me to work on
this until that version reaches at least experimental and I can
reproduce on hardware that I own.

Bug#594461: apt-setup: Should propose using t-p-u when testing is installed

There is a 'squeeze-proposed-updates' alias for 'testing-proposed-updates',
which will continue to work after release (when it becomes
'stable-proposed-updates' instead). So whatever method is used for
configuring sources.list currently (and I think it's always right to use the
codename here rather than the suite name, to avoid accidental dist-upgrades
down the line) should apply equally well to testing-proposed-updates in that
sense.

Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Latest iceweasel releases in unstable and experimental provide the xulrunner
binary packages (xulrunner-1.9.x, xulrunner-1.9.x-dbg, xulrunner-dev,
libmozjsyd, libmozjsyd-dbg, libmozjs-dev, spidermonkey-bin ; where x is 1 or
2 and y is 2 or 3). The python-xpcom package is now provided by pyxpcom,
and the libmozillainterfaces-java package was removed, as the javaxpcom stack
is unsupported.

Please thus remove the xulrunner source package and corresponding binary
packages from both unstable and experimental (in experimental, only powerpc
binaries have not been built yet for iceweasel, but the xulrunner ones are
outdated, so please proceed anyways)

The removal from testing will be requested when iceweasel = 3.5.11-2
transitions to testing.

/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt.

ca-certificates (which provides /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt)
should be a real dependency instead of a recommend.

Is that path hardcoded or configurable?

If configurable, only recommending is the proper relation to use.

The path is configurable, but you cannot omit it.
An empty value for cafile in sympa.conf is rejected.
Otherwise a default setting kicks in:

  unless ( (defined $o{'cafile'}) || (defined $o{'capath'} )) {
$o{'cafile'}[0] = Sympa::Constants::DEFAULTDIR . '/ca-bundle.crt';
}

So we need in fact a real dependency. I also think this is upstream bug
resp. inconsistency in the documentation.

Bug#594469: hobbit: Non-intuitive and incomplete system clock offset monitoring

2010-08-26 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: hobbit
Version: 4.2.0.dfsg-14lenny3
Severity: wishlist

hobbit has the (by default disabled) option to warn about bigger
system clock offsets on monitored machines.

Unfortunately the implementation is incomplete and not really
very intuitive:

a) It is displayed in the CPU column. IMHO It should either have its
own column (clock or so) or be included in the ntpq column
where I looked for it first.

b) It is not possible to assign a value at which the warning level
should go red -- only yellow is possible. It even doesn't argue if
you provide two values, but the second one is ignored and higher
clock offsets still result in only a yellow state.

c) Documentation (correctly) states that you can only give one value
to CLOCK in hobbit-clients.cfg, but it is not documented what the
effect respectively color of values above the given limit will be.
(It results in a yellow state.)

suffix, the iceape browser creates an infinite number of empty windows. For
example, attempting to edit a page on wikia.com, or entering a bug report via
lauchpad, an infininte number of blank windows appear, each pointing to an
 address such as:

 file:///tmp/index.php or file:///tmp/login_status.php

This problem was introduced into version 2.0.6 of iceape, and did not occur on
 previous versions.

I can't reproduce this bug. Can you run iceape via the following, try
again, and send the resulting file (compressed) to this bug?

NSPR_LOG_FILE=/some/file NSPR_LOG_MODULES=all:5 iceape

Bug#478009: even gnash 8.8 doesn't seem to work with youtube

2010-08-26 Thread Miles Bader
Package: gnash
Version: 0.8.8-1
Severity: normal

The 0.8.8-1 release says:

- 100% of all YouTube videos should work. If you have problems,
delete all YouTube cookies and refresh.

I tried watching some youtube videos, using iceweasel (I also tried
chromium), and none seemed to work with gnash 0.8.8-1. It displays
the youtube widget correctly, but instead of showing the video, it
just displays the text An error occured, please try again later.

Following the instructions, I removed all youtube cookies and
refreshed; the same problem occured. I then deleted all youtube
cookies and restarted iceweasel, with the same results.

Chromium shows exactly the same behavior.

[Youtube videos work fine with flashplugin-nonfree installed instead
of gnash.]

Thanks,

-Miles

To start correctly, task_manager.pl daemon expects
/usr/share/sympa/default/ca-bundle.crt to be a valid symlink to
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt.

ca-certificates (which provides /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt)
should be a real dependency instead of a recommend.

Is that path hardcoded or configurable?

If configurable, only recommending is the proper relation to use.

The path is configurable, but you cannot omit it.
An empty value for cafile in sympa.conf is rejected.
Otherwise a default setting kicks in:

 unless ( (defined $o{'cafile'}) || (defined $o{'capath'} )) {
   $o{'cafile'}[0] = Sympa::Constants::DEFAULTDIR . '/ca-bundle.crt';
   }

So we need in fact a real dependency. I also think this is upstream bug
resp. inconsistency in the documentation.

Until eventually fixed upstream, could we perhaps provide an empty CRL
at that fallback location?

Or instead of undefining, then set capath to an empty dir.

AFAIR S/MIME is disabled by the default package installation. If not,
that is a bug :-).

Then what actually _uses_ the apparently mandatory cafile/capath option?

Bug#594472: grub-pc: scary messages and very long boot time after upgrade

2010-08-26 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.98+20100804-2
Severity: important

Hi,

my machine is a standard PC with two SATA disks, bundled as md0 and md1,
with /boot on md0, and everything else in a LUKS encrypted container on
md1 with LVM inside. So, booting normally works by fetching the kernel
and initrd from /boot, then asking for a passphrase to unlock the
container, then proceed with the boot process.

Yesterday, I upgraded to all the latest and greatest in Testing, which
included both new versions of grub-pc and
linux-image--2.6.32-5-686-bigmem (I have 8GB RAM in my machine) and
grub-pc presented me with a statement like your UUIDs are garbled. I
need to regenerate them, or you'll be unable to boot., with my two
disks selected as the default devices to regenerate UUIDs for. I
accepted, understanding that grub-pc wanted to write new MBRs to the
disks, then shut down the machine after the upgrade finished. Today, the
machine booted to the point where it would normally ask for the
passphrase, but instead, it said:

  Volume group ev0 not found
  Skipping volume group ev0
Unable to find LVM volume ev0/root
  Volume group ev0 not found
  Skipping volume group ev0
Unable to find LVM volume ev0/swap

After several (5?) minutes where the machine didn't do anything I was
able to see, the screen was suddenly flushed with a large number of
messages like:

  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md0 (10715)
  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md1 (10716)
  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md0 (10717)
  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md1 (10718)
  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md0 (10719)
  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md1 (10720)
  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md0 (10721)
Unlocking the disk /dev/md1 (md1_crypt)
Enter the passphrase:

After entering the passphrase, the machine used several more minutes
while the cpu cooler went into high pitch, then it emitted the following
message:

10 logical volume(s) in volume group ev0 now active
cryptsetup: md1_crypt set up successfully

Then it took some more time, after which it emitted a flurry of
messages, ending with this:

  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md0 (25598)
  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md1 (25599)
  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md0 (25600)
  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md1 (25601)
  /sys/devices/virtual/block/md0 (25602)
done.

After that, booting continued normally.

This was a scary event, all in all, and I'd also like to have the
machine boot in 3 minutes, instead of some 15, again.

If you think that this problem should be assigned to a different package
(eg. linux-image-...), please feel free to re-assign, as well as up- or
downgrading the severity.

I think that the problem justifies marking it as 'important', but
hesitated to mark it 'grave' because the machine eventually booted.

Kind regards,

Actual results:
6) upper left pixel of the video is shown at (0,16)

More info:
1) This bug does not occur with 2:1.0~rc3++final.dfsg1-1.

2) I tried to compensate this with -geometry 0:-16 but that causes
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: filter_video.

3) This also occurs with -vo fbdev2

Bug#594427: xdg-user-dirs: Update standard folders should add language links to folders, not rename them

2010-08-26 Thread Josselin Mouette
Le jeudi 26 août 2010 à 00:07 +0200, Papou a écrit :
Limiting this explanation to French and Desktop, what xdg-user-dirs is trying
 to do when the user
changes his language from English to French (and agrees) is to rename Desktop
 to Bureau.
For multiple reasons, see below, this is an impossible thing to do.
Instead, all these reasons disappear if a Bureau - Desktop symbolic link is
 created.
And, for the same reasons, that symbolic link must be kept should the user
 change his language away from
 French.

 The fix is simple:
 - instead of renaming Desktop to Bureau, create a Bureau - Desktop symbolic
 link
 - instead of renaming Bureau to any language, do nothing
 - the rest remains unchanged

unfortunately, corrective action must be taken for already polluted systems:
 - corrective action, Desktop must be created and desktop data migrated to it
 by user

Which makes the fix not simple.

You should bring this issue upstream. There is no reason for Debian to
diverge from upstream on such a large scale.

Cheers,

2010-08-26 Thread Alexander Dolgunin
Hi Jakub,

it looks like I'll have no time to maintain it, but to preserve the results
of what we've done so far, let's finish it (at least in time for the next

Can we place Dmitry's repository into vcs: field, or should we move it to
somewhere?

No patched libtheora is needed and no fbdev is needed either. Also, if

benefit from the ARM optimizations).

I tried the above on amd64 but could not reproduce the bug.

post-install consider that I am running amd64 system and install an

This can be fixed, if you call linux32 chroot rather than simply

Bug#594479: when lilo.conf missing and grub in use, postinstall kernel pkg fails

2010-08-26 Thread Moshe Yudkowsky

Package: lilo
Version: 1:22.8-8.2
Justification: breaks unrelated software
Severity: critical
Tags: sid

The lilo package is installed but /etc/lilo.conf is missing; at present
I use grub.

In the latest update of lilo, I can no longer install kernel updates, as
seen in the following output:

Setting up linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64 (2.6.32-21) ...

Fatal: Cannot open: /etc/lilo.conf
run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-lilo exited with return code 1

I see from the changelog that /etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-lilo is a recent
addition. AFAICT, there's no /etc/kernel policy that selects between
grub and lilo, so I'm not certain how to resolve this problem -- how to
leave both packages installed.

I should also mention that as far as I can recall, this same lilo update
removed /etc/lilo.conf -- I recall reading a message.

Please let me know if you require additional information.

Bug#574604: [tuxonice-userui] initramfs generated initrd misses tuxonice-userui

2010-08-26 Thread Frédéric Boiteux
Hello,

I'm agree with the proposed solution, the warning message can be wrong
and confusing (telling it installs an initrd for a TuxOnIce-disabled
kernel whereas it is actually enabled) and putting TuxOnIce's user UI
things in initrd for TOI-disabled kernels is harmless (and people
installing this package surely want to have this software in kernels
which can use them).

I also wonder if the
script /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/tuxonice_userui should also
copy the /etc/splash whole directory if it exists ?

Bug#592546: kernel-package: doesn't run update-initramfs

2010-08-26 Thread Florian Schlichting
I had the same issue when I was using custom kernels late last year.
Simply installing the .deb that make-kpkg produces for some reason
doesn't run update-initramfs, so there is no initrd and the kernel won't
start. Workaround: 'sudo update-initramfs sudo update-grub' after
installing the custom-built kernel.

I never got around to reporting / properly investigating the problem,
and I'm still suspecting it has something to do with hooks in
/etc/kernel-img.conf or the like. I don't understand what's different in
the custom built vs official kernel .debs though...

Hi,

silly me, I was so sure this was an ARM specific bug that I did not

And yes, it occurs also on amd64 and with -vo x11 too.

At first I thought there was something wrong with the input file but
it does work with mplayer 2:1.0~rc3++final.dfsg1-1 and was generated

I've just dropped these from libxapian22-dbg since they don't really belong

that will be gone before squeeze anyway.

It might be nice to put those from /usr/bin/* in xapian-tools-dbg, but that's
more invasive and would mean a trip through the NEW queue, which both seem
best avoided in the middle of a transition. The debug symbols for the library
are much more widely useful.

Bug#594275: openoffice.org: Exported PDFs can't be printed from Windows computers

2010-08-26 Thread Rene Engelhard
Hi,

Wrong. The text you typed in is loo long (Documents that I ...).
I didn't speak of reportbugs ouput.

 OpenOffice.org 3.2.1
 OOO320m19 (Build:9505)
 ooo-build 3.2.1.4, Debian package 1:3.2.1-5

And? You already had that in the reportbug-generated info.
Yes, I tried with 3.2.1-6, but that one is a must-have for squeeze
anyway (and doesn't have changes affecting the PDF export functionality
in any case anyways)

According to Aptitude, this seems to be the latest Squeeze build.

Did I say anything against that? No.

Note this only occurs when printing from Windows. I have tested it on
Windows XP and received the same complaint from people running Windows
Vista and 7. All are using Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.

I tested with uptodate Windows 7 and uptodate Acrobat Reader.

Bug#594397: pootle: seems to ignore installed python-xapian

2010-08-26 Thread Alaa Abd El Fattah
Pootle relies on the xapian-check command to test for xapian version
(it can't get this information from the API to avoid causing deadlocks
under apache).

this means Pootle package has a dependency on the xapian-tools package
as well as python-xapian.

Bug#593706: install-info breaks dpkg

Debian quality gets more and more worse in my opinion. To lower high

The move to install-info from GNU was concerted and organized together
with the dpkg team. Please don't overexaggerate the problem. Nobody
else can reproduce the problme you are having, so it is definitely
not critical.

Aha. You argue a much worse way. If you think that this is rubbish only

No, because other people in the thread have told you that they made
installations without any problems .. so it is unreproducible with
missing infos .. so it is not critical.

 wrote in the bug report.

Ahhh, really. Then please give a *detailed* report how to reproduce it.

However, it is understandable that you need more data. So please specify
that data and how to collect them.

You not even provided terminal logs, NOTHING. No line of actual output
of dpkg/apt/whatever???

Is that the first time you report a bug? Ever heard about how to report
a good bug?

I am not used to read from the crystal ball, and I will ignore further
bug reports (as I did it till now) of that level. Your bug report
is of the level of a typical Ubuntu user:
It breaks the system, fix it!
Well, if you want that, get a professional service and pay for it, but
leave me in peace.

If you are interested in fixing things, don't come wasting our precious
time by writing bug reports with as much information as oxygen on the moon.

Best wishes

Bug#594482: ITP: libsyntax-ruby -- A simple Ruby syntax highlighting library

2010-08-26 Thread Ben Armstrong
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ben Armstrong sy...@sanctuary.nslug.ns.ca

* Package name: libsyntax-ruby
  Version : 1.0.0
Upstream Author : Jamis Buck ja...@jamisbuck.org
* URL : http://syntax.rubyforge.org/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Ruby
Description : A simple Ruby syntax highlighting library

This is a simple syntax highlighting library for Ruby. It is a naive syntax
analysis tool, meaning that it does not understand the syntaxes of the
languages it processes, but merely does some semi-intelligent pattern matching.

There are primarily two uses for the Syntax library:

# Convert text from a supported syntax to a supported highlight format (like
HTML).
# Tokenize text in a supported syntax and process the tokens directly.

While there already exist other Ruby syntax highlighting libraries in Debian,
this one is a dependency of Cucumber, which I RFP'd (#565769) a while ago and
will shortly be converted to an ITP, if not by me then by a colleague.

Have you tried with the netboot (*not netinst*) image which you can

It won't help. 'modinfo e1000e' on the latest lenny kernel does not

 Ben,

sorry for my ignorance. I was thinking about extending the

I think you need X-Start-Before: $network and X-Stop-After:
