Bug#597045: sylpheed: sometimes folder tree does not show mail number when new mails arrive
Package: sylpheed Version: 3.1.0~beta3-1 Severity: normal Tags: experimental Sometimes folder tree does not show mail number when new mails arrive. Ordinarily, if new mails are arrived into some folders by sylpheed's POP3, folder tree shows number of new mails. Sylpheed 3.0.2-1 works so. On sylpheed 3.1.0~beta3-1 (also beta2), folder tree sometimes does not show its numbers. Therefore, if new mails arrive, I have to check all folders. And I click folder that has new mails actually, it shows its numbers. I am troubled that it does not always occur. I guess it is caused by 3.1.0~beta2's new feature mentioned below changelog, but I do not know whether it is a bug or just supposed action. http://sylpheed.sraoss.jp/en/news.html # New features * On POP3 receiving, new messages are displayed on the summary view immediately. Bug#597048: README.Debian suggest to put SOCKET= in /etc/default/clamav-milter but it's not used
Package: clamav-milter Version: 0.96.1+dfsg-1 Severity: normal The README.Debian says: POSTFIX Recent versions of postfix have support for milters. This allows clamav-milter to be used reasonably well with postfix, although the problem of group permissions on the actual socket is a problem. See /usr/share/doc/clamav-milter/INSTALL.gz for some details. A solution for the frequent I have to change the init script to make sure postfix can communicate with the socket problem is making the directory for the socket setgid. So: uncomment USE_POSTFIX=yes in /etc/default/clamav-milter and choose the appropriate socket option. mkdir -p /var/spool/postfix/clamav/ chown clamav:postfix /var/spool/postfix/clamav/ chmod g+s /var/spool/postfix/clamav/ ls -l /var/spool/postfix/clamav/ srwxrwxr-x 1 clamav postfix 0 2006-12-15 03:37 clamav-milter Another option is to use a TCP socket for milter - postfix communication. For this option, you can use the syntax: SOCKET=inet:12...@127.0.0.1 (p...@host, in case it's not clear) in /etc/default/clamav-milter. This has the disadvantage that you lose filesystem permission-based protections on the socket, so use with some caution. All of this is wrong... USE_POSTFIX is without effect and SOCKET is the same. The configuration is all dealt with clamav-milter.conf which is itself generated with debconf. Please review that file and update it to match the current situation. Wrong documentation is very misleading for end-users, in particular when README.Debian is the one that should always be right because the package maintainers know what he did. :-) Cheers, -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#587007: salome: Porting patches to Salome 5.1.4 for upstream inclusion
Hi Adam, After a long break, I am back on the Salome packaging. Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your break. Sure, it was really nice. I have enclosed most of the patches for building the KERNEL module with the 5.1.4 version. Moreover a start of the documentation that I plan to send for patches submission can be found here: https://hg.python-science.org/salome-packaging/file/d60a8c2112dc/debian-patch-review.rst However I wanted to discuss with you on 3 patches that I did not include because I thought that they concern Debian choices: - kernel-config-extra.patch Definitely Debian-only - kernel-doc-images-svg.patch Upstream probably won't accept, I haven't seen a big reduction in the documentation size with this patch (haven't tested though). Ok, so I will make a try for this one too. - kernel-install-without-docs.patch This one is debatable. I think that when most users do make make install they don't want to go through the entire documentation building and installation process, so I would ask and see whether they would be willing to accept this. It certainly saves us a *ton* of build time and disk space on the autobuilders, as when they only build for their own arch, there is no reason to build and install the documentation! Ok, I will try to submit it in that case, saying that is debatable (like kernel-doc-images-svg.patch). and this one does not make sense alone because the command is then renamed in 'debian/rules': - kernel-python-noexec.patch I agree. In case you have arguments or ideas about how to submit them, I will include them in the report. Now I plan to continue on the following modules. I have a couple more which perhaps should not go upstream. kernel-debian-dirs.patch is obviouis; Yes but I added it because it is required for illustrating how Salome is built on Debian and moreover it shows that hard coded paths are potentially a problem for custom module installations. In case upstream is interested by such change, I plan to improve it. also, kernel-mpi-libs.patch uses the Debian-specific MPI symlink name libmpi++ . Thanks for the precision, I thought libmpi++ was a standard. However should we ask for a MPI_LIBS environment variable in the configure script? It seems that '-lmpio -lmpiCC' is MPICH specific. In addition, kernel-hdf5-needs-mpi.patch might not be accepted: Sylvestre tells me that upstream wants to use the serial HDF5 version, not parallel. Yes they told me that too, however the changes should not break a serial HDF5 version. And they might not accept kernel-replace-csh-stderr.patch because I think upstream uses csh/tcsh a lot, and I don't think the 2 syntax works there. Good news for this one, the file: KERNEL_SRC_5.1.4/src/LifeCycleCORBA/SALOME_LifeCycleCORBA.cxx uses already the '2' syntax. So the remaining changes should pass. But kernel-debian-occ.patch *should* go upstream -- it's compatible both with the traditional OCC install locations, and the Debian/Ubuntu locations, which are becoming more commonplace and significant. Yes, I hope too. Then what would be the relevant place for submitting patches of the remaining modules? Is it a good idea to send them to the bugtracker like I did for the kernel? Or could I let them on the Mercurial repository of http://www.python-science.org/project/salome-packaging? Instead of naming specific emacs version packages as build dependencies, it just names the emacsen virtual package (which it did before as one of the ORed list), since any of the providers of that package work. How did you build test it? I suppose that the default sbuild dependency resolving algorithm will fail horribly on this. I tested building it inside pbuilder with each of the following: emacs emacs23 emacs23-lucid emacs23-nox xemacs21-mule xemacs21-mule-canna-wnn xemacs21-nomule These are all the providers of the emacsen virtual package in squeeze. I tested each provider individually in a fresh environment, as well as with apt-get build-dep to make sure it could work without any provider yet installed. I see other emacs packages using ORed build-dependencies (muse-el, remember-el) instead of or in addition to the virtual emacsen package, but Lucas's bug suggested I shouldn't use ORed build-deps either. Bug#595909: salome-dev: add path to adm_local files
On Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 06:20:34PM -0400, Adam C Powell IV wrote: On Tue, 2010-09-14 at 11:05 +0200, Andre Espaze wrote: Hello Adam and Christophe, Package: salome-dev Version: 5.1.3-11 Severity: wishlist It will be nice to include adm_local directory for each salome base modules in the salome-dev package. This will greatly simplify the developpement and packaging of new plugins since the configuration step almost refers to MODULE/adm_local. Otherwise we ave to include some MODULE_SRC in the src package for the plugins (see what I have done for salome-code-aster on svn debian science) This is a good idea. Right now the package puts the .m4 files all together in one big salome.m4 in /usr/share/aclocal (because check_KERNEL.m4 and check_GUI.m4 are far too generic names). But something like /usr/share/salome/[module]/adm_local or just /usr/share/salome/adm_local could include more than just the .m4 files. /usr/share/salome/adm_local is the easiest place to put these. Will that work for you? I would rather try to stick as much as possible to the original installation. So my feelings are that adm_local from MODULE_SRC should be included in /usr/share/salome/MODULE_SRC. It's pretty easy either way. André, as someone closer to upstream, what do you think makes more sense? Right now, all of the adm_local files install into /usr/adm_local, which violates the FHS. Should they go into a single directory under /usr/share/salome or into separate module directories? To my point of view, installing the .m4 files in separate module directories like /usr/share/salome/MODULE_SRC makes more sense with upstream packaging philosophy. I understand the clearness of a single directory like /usr/share/salome/adm_local but I fear conflicts because all modules do not necessarily share the same macro for a same configuration check. Well, I think it's a problem that they don't use the same macro in some cases, like GUI checks... But I'll go ahead and do it this way anyway. Just for information, the 'geom-use-gui-check.patch' patch is broken on the 5.1.4 version because the macros 'CHECK_SALOME_GUI' and 'CHECK_CORBA_IN_GUI' are now defined in the check_GUI.m4 file of the GEOM module. From now my solution is to give the path '${GUI_ROOT_DIR}/adm_local/unix/config_files' as the first argument to aclocal in build_configure (but it could be a problem in case a macro really needs to be overloaded locally). In case you already have a solution for using the same macro, I will gladly port it to the 5.1.4 version. Josselin, There is something more. We had to install Nautilus and GNOME Panel in this case (gnome-session depends on it). Just for using GNOME Screensaver! :-) I do not know what functionality of gnome-session is requierd for locking on time proper work. Select /dev/ROOT, then select Execute a shell in /dev/ROOT. In this shell, run 'grub-install /dev/GRUB'. Nope, the code is still here in nautilus. Feel free to point out where... I can't find it. I've also installed Lenny + gnome-desktop-environment, played around a bit with an avi test video, upgraded to squeeze. This did not result in any problems opening the file. You don’t just need to play around a bit with a video, you need to do something that creates a ~/.local/share/mime/mime.cache file. This involves e.g. creating a new MIME type. Thanks for this hint. Here's what I've found: I started with a clean Lenny install + gnome-desktop-environment pulled in. I then registered a custom mime type on my user as described in http://library.gnome.org/admin/system-admin-guide/stable/mimetypes-modifying.html.en (See attached file, which I put in ~/.local/share/mime/packages/ and then ran update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime/ to generate the mime.cache.) I verified with gnomevfs-info ~/Desktop/foo.abc that my test file was actually detected as the new mime type text/x-abc. I upgraded to squeeze... After the complete upgrade gnomevfs-info now told me my file was of type application/octet-stream rather then my custom type. Double-clicking my test video file opened the movie player without problems, no error message about mime mismatches or anything. To get my custom mime type back I had to manually invoke update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime/ and then foo.abc was again detected as text/x-abc by gnomevfs-info. It seems the mime cache is now simply ignored if it's in the old format. I wonder if this problem might have only been a concern for testing-testing upgrades back in 2009 It was a problem with lenny→squeeze upgrades back in 2009, but it might simply have been fixed upstream. Semi-fixed it seems. I wonder where this leaves us now... -- Andreas Henriksson Overrides.xml Description: XML document

Bug#585380: [audacity] hangs suddenly, can't find a pattern.
Hi Arnfinn, audacity 1.3.5 tends to crash from time to time. The releases after 1.3.5 improved stability and audacity 1.3.12 is stable for me (no crash in months). Looking at your backtrace, there are some debug symbols missing. Without them it won't be easy to understand the issue. Can you install audacity-dbg and the debug package for jack. A backtrace is useful for crashes, but less useful for for freezes. It's much simpler to debug a freeze if it can be reproduced. I doubt that your issue will be fixed if there is no way to reproduce it and the package in squeeze doesn't have the issue. -- Benjamin Drung Ubuntu Developer (www.ubuntu.com) | Debian Maintainer (www.debian.org) signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil

It's not clear to me what the correct thing to do is. The package *did* have references to 8.3 until August, when I removed them to fix some piuparts warnings, since 8.3 is not in sid/squeeze. Since it appear that pragmatic fix is indeed to put the 8.3 dep back, I will do that for an upcoming upload. Bug#597052: FTBFS if hlint is installed
Hi, Am Donnerstag, den 16.09.2010, 17:33 +0800 schrieb Trent W. Buck: Joachim Breitner wrote: while uploading the NMU I noticed that darcs FTBFS if hlint is installed, at test tests/haskell-policy.sh. I suggest you either disable the test, add hlint to Build-Conflicts or fix the test (maybe it is fixed in the next upstream release). I am fine with either of those, but I am not in a position to make and upload such a change for at least a week (I'm on vacation). Feel free to fix this yourself with an NMU before then. no hurry, as it only affects people trying to rebuild and is easy to fix. (Thus severity minor). Obviously getting the test to pass would be better than disabling it, but that can wait until Squeeze is released. (It is probably something simple, like Debian having a too-old hlint version.) Bug#517768: can't reproducing mime.cache problem.
Le jeudi 16 septembre 2010 à 10:47 +0200, Andreas Henriksson a écrit : So far I've found out that the error message originally quoted in the bug report is no longer part of nautilus (it was dropped in the gnomevfs-gio switch a long time ago). Nope, the code is still here in nautilus. Feel free to point out where... I can't find it. Sorry, I meant it is in glib now. To get my custom mime type back I had to manually invoke update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime/ and then foo.abc was again detected as text/x-abc by gnomevfs-info. It seems the mime cache is now simply ignored if it's in the old format. Thanks a lot for the thorough testing. It was a problem with lenny→squeeze upgrades back in 2009, but it might simply have been fixed upstream. Semi-fixed it seems. I wonder where this leaves us now... Well now glib is behaving as it is supposed to do: the old cache format is simply ignored - instead of breaking the whole MIME subsystem. However it will not be regenerated upon upgrade. This should be done by an upgrade script (which are usually run from gnome-settings-daemon), not by glib itself. All in all I don’t think we should consider this as RC anymore. Bug#595408: backlog replay broken for unexpected disconnections
A better solution is to poll the tcp buffer size as I mentioned before. The empty buffer insures us that the client received the data. A ping from bip to client would be useful, and I don't remember if it's missing on top of my head. But every two second is overkill and still incorrect as messages can come in those two seconds. 2010/9/15 Fabien Tassin f...@sofaraway.org: if i understand the code correctly, it seems bip is able to answer to PINGs from the server or from the client, send PINGs to the server but it doesn't emit its own pings toward the client. What about making bip ping the client on a quite fast pace (such as ~2sec), or with a user configurable interval timeout? something like this: client bip server | -- PING X --- | | | - PONG X | | | | | | | -- PING Y --- | | | --- PONG Y -- | | | | | | --- PING Z -- | | | -- PONG Z --- | | | | | - PING T | | -- PONG T --- | (X/Y/Z/T are independent, i.e. no ping relay) X, Y and Z are already there. T would allow bip to a/ detect much faster than the client is gone and b/ truncate the backlogs after each PONG (at the time the corresponding PING was sent) to avoid too many duplicates during replays. Package: am-utils Version: 6.1.5-15+nmu1 Since upgrading to this version, amd has just (yesterday) stopped working and started complaining 'No locks available'. Bug#597082: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: Please add support for Synaptics ClickPads
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics Version: 1.2.2-2 Severity: important Hi! Newer Netbooks and Notebooks seem to be delivered with a Synaptics Clickpad (which basically seems to be a Touchpad with no extra sepperated buttons, but build in ones). These devices are already recodnized by the kernel and xorg synaptics driver, but don't work: You have only one mouse button, which is quite useless, as the button area when touched is also sensitive for the mouse cursor movement. The Kernel seems to already be ready (see #572842) but the xorg synaptics driver didn't work for me. There is a patch at http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg08198.html, which works for me more or less (I don't have a middle mouse button, but at least the rest is working).
