Bug#540341: RM: apt-cross/0.13.4
reassign 540341 release.debian.org retitle 540341 RM: apt-cross -- ROM; RC buggy User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: rm quit I'd like to ask for apt-cross to be removed from Squeeze to fix the RC bug #591457 and a long standing bug, #502433 which, together with other internal issues, make apt-cross unsuitable for release alongside the version of apt already in Squeeze. apt-cross has suffered from the changes in apt which have been made during the Squeeze release freeze. These problems mostly have workarounds but still make apt-cross less and less user-friendly. All these issues come down to the design model of apt-cross which involves parsing the apt cache data via libapt-pkg-perl. The apt-cross cross-dependency resolver algorithm is also incompatible with recent changes in Policy, see: http://lists.debian.org/debian-embedded/2010/06/msg00047.html I do have a replacement - pdebuild-cross contains /usr/share/pdebuild-cross/xapt but the version in Squeeze is only really suitable inside a chroot. I do have an improved version which is waiting in the NEW queue aimed at experimental (using it outside the chroot does mean that xapt should be a separate package) after some work in Ubuntu by Wookey. So, I've uploaded the separate xapt package to the Emdebian toolchain repositories, i.e. alongside the toolchains which are needed to make apt-cross or xapt useful. (No point having -cross packages without a cross toolchain.) Cross-building is difficult in Debian right now anyway, there never was much hope that apt-cross would remain serviceable during the migration to Multiarch, xapt stands a better chance by using a simpler design. After Squeeze, I'll upload a new version of the emdebian-crush source package to provide a binary xapt package intended for unstable - at which point I'll seek the removal of apt-cross from unstable. When Multiarch finally supports cross-building, xapt itself is likely to be removed too, along with dpkg-cross. -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ http://e-mail.is-not-s.ms/ pgpdu1DhLcxZ5.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#601871: Missing plugin documentation.
Package: lxpanel Version: 0.5.6-1 Severity: whishlist Tags: patch The documentation of how to configure any available plugin to lxpanel is severely crippled in this package. I only managed to configure the interface for netstatus by examining the source code! No other text in the package seemed to mention iface. To ease the configuration work for others -- my nephews are still too young to benefit from this, but their father could -- I have extracted a manual page lxpanel.hints(5) from the information in the directory plugins of the source tree. Please, consider to include it in the package after any corrections you care to make. I am rather a neophyte in LXDE, but I have tested some of the findings I came upon, although not all of them. Linux 2.6.36 allows drivers to provide 64-bit statistics all architectures, but this has not yet been implemented for all drivers. If you want to get accurate statistics then you need to run a monitoring program which will poll these statistics often enough that it can detect wrap-around. With a link speed of 1 Gbit/s the byte counter can wrap around after about 35 seconds. Bug#601825: libpam-runtime: Loops on No PAM profiles have been selected in some installation case
tags 601825 moreinfo thanks Nick (Cced) has an issue when installing Debian, at PAM module selection, which loops with No PAM profiles have been selected messages. The way to reproduce is the following: This cc: didn't make it through to the BTS (you need to use X-Debbugs-Cc: for that). - as soon as the base system is installed (the main menu of the debian installer is shown and thus the target is not busy), run chroot /target dpkg-reconfigure debconf and select the low debconf level. Should also be reproducible with 'medium' fwiw; pam-auth-update doesn't ask any questions at low priority. - continue installation (download/install/configure, answer questions), up to the libpam-gnome-keyring package configuration (which is quite late). libpam-runtime's configuration will be invoked since libpam-gnome-keyring provides a new module. The configuration box proposes to select among the 3 now-installed modules, but whatever the selection that you validate, you always end up with the No PAM profiles have been selected. error message, there is no way out except hard-rebooting. Bug#601506: boxbackup-server: bbstored-certs root CA expiration so far in the future it becomes the past

So, I can confirm this. Amazingly, this seems to be a Y2038 bug... The fix is trivial (one-liner) if one chooses to cut the days e.g. into half (resulting in certificates expiring in 2024 instead of 2038), which is a fair compromise. The bug is quite recent, so I'll leave the maintainer (who tends to be responsive) to handle it. Another reason for not NMU'ing is that in the progress of confirming this I encountered other minor problems with the package that should be dealt with, preferrably by the maintainer: * The debconf template suggests installing the package boxbackup-utils, which doesn't exist (this would need another round of translation fixes) * bbstored-certs' manpage is totally broken, with nroff commands appearing in the output. The combination of the two resulted in puzzling me on how to properly use the CA part of the package while trying to reproduce this. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#601884: After installing it, it shows no results
Package: fuss-launcher Version: 0.5-1 Severity: normal Hello, if I don't have app-install-data installed and I install fuss-launcher, keyword completion and suggestion works, but I get no results. What happens is this: - apt-xapian-index is built and the index exists - fuss-launcher is installed, which brings in app-install-data - fuss-launcher does not do a full index rebuild in postinst, which would be overkill - therefore, the index does not have .desktop information inside, and since fuss-launcher filters results keeping only those that DO have .desktop information, nothing shows up. A way to solve this is, at fuss-launcher startup, to check if the index contains any .desktop information at all. If it does not, use the result area to ask the user to rebuild the index. Or even try triggering a full index rebuild via D-Bus if that is possible, and for extra points show a progressbar. Bug#601885: linux-image-2.6.36-trunk-686: problem detecting usb external gadgets
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.36-1~experimental.1 Severity: important Tags: upstream This is a Sony netbook vgn-p19vn, up to -and included- linux-image-2.6.32 usb external gadgets work as expected -external mouse, memory sticks, etc...- are detected after plugin them. Since 2.6.33 and up to 2.6.36 (included) external gadgets are not detected after plugin or unplugin them (there's no line in /var/log/syslog indicating these kind of events). Bug#590534: gdm3 changes xkb options
retitle 590534 gdm3: changes xkb options thanks Hello, I was affected by the same bug, so I tried to find out what was wrong. I am using no GNOME stuff, not even a gnome-settings-daemon, except gdm3 to log in. I have no /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and in my /etc/default/keyboard, I have: XKBOPTIONS=compose:menu,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp This gets exported correctly by udev: % grep XKB /dev/.udev/db/input:event* /dev/.udev/db/input:event0:E:XKBOPTIONS=compose:menu,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp When I start a session with startx, I get the expected keyboard setup: % setxkbmap -print xkb_keymap { xkb_keycodes { include evdev+aliases(azerty) }; xkb_types { include complete }; xkb_compat{ include complete }; xkb_symbols { include pc+fr(oss)+inet(evdev)+compose(menu)+terminate(ctrl_alt_bksp) }; xkb_geometry { include pc(pc105) }; }; But when I start my session with gdm3, the options compose(menu) and terminate(ctrl_alt_bksp) disappear: % setxkbmap -print xkb_keymap { xkb_keycodes { include evdev+aliases(azerty) }; xkb_types { include complete }; xkb_compat{ include complete }; xkb_symbols { include pc+fr(oss)+inet(evdev) }; xkb_geometry { include pc(pc105) }; }; So it looks like gdm3 is: * interpreting what it can from udev or xkb configuration: geometry and layout; * discarding the remaining: compose(menu) and terminate(ctrl_alt_bksp); * overriding the xkb configuration with what it could understand; * not setting the initial xkb configuration back after login. I think the appropriate behaviour for a display manager should be not to touch to the keyboard configuration at all, unless explicitely told to do so. I am still wondering why the old graphs (the ones currently on http://people.debian.org/~glandium/bts ) seem to be still smarter with respect to the y-axis grid. I mean: the old graphs seem to almost always guess optimal y-axis grid lines and labels, while the new graphs look nice but not optimal... Would you have examples of such optimal vs. suboptimal graphs ? Here we go: let the old graphs (the one currently linked from the PTS) be named old, the previous experimental graphs be named test-0, and the current experimental graphs be named test-1. Hence, we have the following general naming scheme: old http://people.debian.org/~glandium/bts/ test-0 http://merkel.debian.org/~glandium/bts/ test-1 http://qa.debian.org/data/bts/ With this naming convention, I will comment on some examples, with respect to one feature *only*, that is to say, number and placement of horizontal grid lines and y-axis numeric labels. Needless to say, as far as *all* other features are concerned, I think that test-1 graphs are better than the other two, as I've already stated previously... Examples: old http://people.debian.org/~glandium/bts/a/apt-listbugs.png test-0 http://merkel.debian.org/~glandium/bts/a/apt-listbugs.png test-1 http://qa.debian.org/data/bts/graphs/a/apt-listbugs.png * old numeric labels are well chosen and old grid lines are good * test-0 numeric labels are well chosen, but test-0 grid lines are too many * test-1 numeric labels and grid lines are too few old http://people.debian.org/~glandium/bts/a/aptitude.png test-0 http://merkel.debian.org/~glandium/bts/a/aptitude.png test-1 http://qa.debian.org/data/bts/graphs/a/aptitude.png * numeric labels are well chosen for all of the three versions * old and test-0 grid lines are OK, but test-1 grid lines are too few old http://people.debian.org/~glandium/bts/d/dput.png test-0 http://merkel.debian.org/~glandium/bts/d/dput.png test-1 http://qa.debian.org/data/bts/graphs/d/dput.png * old and test-1 numeric labels and grid lines seem to be reasonable * test-0 has maybe a bit too many labels and lines... old http://people.debian.org/~glandium/bts/r/rpncalc.png test-0 http://merkel.debian.org/~glandium/bts/r/rpncalc.png test-1 http://qa.debian.org/data/bts/graphs/r/rpncalc.png * old and test-0 make not much sense, since a package cannot have, say, 1.6 bugs (hence it's not really useful to have labels or lines for fractions of a bug) * test-1 is better in this case, since it has meaningful labels, even though grid lines are too many old http://people.debian.org/~glandium/bts/w/wnpp.png test-0 http://merkel.debian.org/~glandium/bts/w/wnpp.png test-1 http://qa.debian.org/data/bts/graphs/w/wnpp.png * test-0 is hard to read (too many labels and grid lines), even though it makes perfectly sense * old and test-1 are similar (even though I slightly prefer test-1) and are easier to read Well, I could go on, but I think the above examples are enough to get the big picture. After all, test-1 is not bad and compares well with old. The only version I don't like is test-0. In summary, I think that test-1 could be considered OK, unless we manage to find a way to further enhance the result... Have you tried to remove the -Y also known as --alt-y-grid option and see the default result? The graphs on merkel are without -Y. (http://merkel.debian.org/~glandium/bts/) OK, as I said above, I don't like the result, so let's forget about removing the -Y option, unless we find some other, better, option! ;-) -- http://www.inventati.org/frx/progs/scripts/pdebuild-hooks.html Need some pdebuild hook scripts? . Bug#601256: Fwd: Bug#601256: fluxbox: Tab behavior broken after upgrade
Hey Paul, I can confirm my home desktop is finally working the way I want it to. I had to shuffle a lot of configs around because this box is older and probably had a lot more legacy configs. Couldn't figure out what to change, so ended up copying them over from my laptop. Anyway, I've attached the keys files from both the /etc/X11/fluxbox directory and from my home dir. Hopefully you'll be able to sort out what changes/additions need to be made to the package. As for applying these kinds of changes to existing installs, probably the only way you can do it cleanly would be to have /usr/bin/fluxbox actually be a script which checks user's configs and tries to fix legacy configs when they start up. That, or just warn them somehow in the logs that a certain config is deprecated or something. Without some hooks or cooperation with the upstream, it would probably be tricky though. Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.12.0+shadow-2 Severity: important I have updated my laptop (a Dell X200 with i830 graphic card) today with the latest squeeze. So 2.9.1-4 has been replaced by 2:2.12.0+shadow-2, which needs KMS to work. But when inserting i915 module with modeset=1, I get a blank screen. I use the Debian kernel : Linux version 2.6.32-5-686 (Debian 2.6.32-26). and libdrm-intel1 2.4.21-1~squeeze3. With several 2.6.32-5-686 kernel, I never get i915 and KMS worked. Bug#601285: Licensing of LaTeX-Decode and small patch for Decode/Data.pm
Bonjour François I'm preparing the liblatex-decode-perl package for inclusion in Debian (as a dependency of Biber). There are two issues I have. 1) I'm a bit confused about the licensing. The source files only mention the Artistic License. The README mentions both the Artistic License and GPLv1+. META.yml and Changelog mention Artistic License v2 explicitly. If you only license it under Artistic 2, can you modify the .pm files, README and latex2utf to reflect this? 2) Below is a patch for Decode/Data.pm. It only adds a NAME and VERSION block for perldoc, and has been created to disable some Debian build warnings. If you wish, you can include them upstream. --- ../lib/LaTeX/Decode/Data.pm.orig2010-10-30 00:47:11.511237512 +0200 +++ ../lib/LaTeX/Decode/Data.pm 2010-10-30 00:48:11.347708217 +0200 @@ -2,6 +2,17 @@ use strict; use warnings; use base qw(Exporter); + +=head1 NAME + +LaTeX::Decode::Data - Data to decode from LaTeX to Unicode + +=head1 VERSION + +Version 0.03 + +=cut + our @EXPORT= qw[ %ACCENTS %WORDMACROS %DIACRITICS %WORDMACROSEXTRA %DIACRITICSEXTRA %PUNCTUATION %NEGATEDSYMBOLS %SUPERSCRIPTS %SYMBOLS %CMDSUPERSCRIPTS %DINGS %GREEK $ACCENTS_RE $DIAC_RE_BASE $DIAC_RE_EXTRA $NEG_SYMB_RE $SUPER_RE $SUPERCMD_RE ]; #our @EXPORT_OK = qw[ # %WORDMACROSEXTRA %DIACRITICSEXTRA %PUNCTUATION %NEGATEDSYMBOLS %SUPERSCRIPTS %SYMBOLS %CMDSUPERSCRIPTS %DINGS %GREEK Cordialement -- Danai -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#549137: please share your work
Barry, you indicated you have some work-in-progress for isdnutils. I recently took over maintainership together with Jan-Michael Brummer. It would be great if you pushed your interim work to a wip branch at our git repo http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/isdnutils.git Extra points if you continue to help with the work. There is a lot to be done for isdnutils and Jan-Michael has recently done some great work upstream and in related projects. (see: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/grub-devel/2010-10/msg00044.html ) Have you tested this with the version in Debian? Is it known to work with 1.x and not cause regression with 0.9? Please let me know, I'll try to get it in squeeze when this is confirmed. I'm sure that the current grub2 in Debian is a regression in comparison with some previous versions. Robert, I really think that a patch for this bug should be included in squeeze. A raid setup with spare disks was working before. Since a few versions of grub2, it is broken. There is a patch that seems to fix this bug and the patch comes from upstream. You should apply it to the grub2 package and upload it to unstable. It is sure that some regression will be fixed. And, perhaps, other regressions will occur. But there is currently no current indication of that and, as with this regression, they would have to be fixed if they occur. If you really want more testing before uploading to unstable, then upload to experimental and ask for testing in debian-devel. Bug#599874: intent to NMU
Thanks, but I have all fixes ready. Here is repository with new version of packaging files: http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/python-pyopencl.git Now release maintainers are thinking whether to allow for upload of new version (full 0,92 instead of 0.92 beta which is in Squeeze) or only to accept fixes: http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2010/10/msg00669.html Should I tag somehow bugs related to pyopencl to let everybody know that I have fixes waiting for decision? Bug#601899: ITP: liblist-maker-perl -- Perl module to generate more sophisticated lists than just $a..$b
Package: wnpp Owner: Salvatore Bonaccorso car...@debian.org Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org,debian-p...@lists.debian.org * Package name: liblist-maker-perl Version : 0.0.5 Upstream Author : Damian Conway dcon...@cpan.org * URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/List-Maker/ * License : Artistic or GPL-1+ Programming Lang: Perl Description : Perl module to generate more sophisticated lists than just $a..$b The List::Maker module hijacks Perl's built-in file globbing syntax ( *.pl and glob '*.pl') and retargets it at list creation. The rationale is simple: most people rarely if ever glob a set of files, but they have to create lists in almost every program they write. So the list construction syntax should be easier than the filename expansion syntax. Alternatively, you can load the module with an explicit name, and it creates a subroutine of that name that builds the same kinds of lists for you (leaving the globbing mechanism unaltered). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#601768: does not configure during upgrade

I've put a small FIXME note in the maintenance scripts to remind Jan and me to fix this properly, pointing to this ticket. I disagree with the downgrade. (But I won't engage in a severity fight, as this would be not helpful.) This _is_ a grave and RC bug in this version (since this version is undoubtly uninstallable) and will still be a grave bug, until you close it with your next upload. Maybe worth to note, that this exploit has been out there for 8 years, at least... Considering the above, I would actually claim that gksu IS ineffective as it is shipped now and I can't see how this issue could possibly be fixed-upstream by applying a patch adding a warning to the man page. Bug#601906: gimp: FTBFS on GNU/Hurd
Package: gimp Version: 2.6.11 Severity: serious Tags: patch Justification: fails to build from source Hello, gimp FTBFS on Debian GNU/Hurd, because one of its plugins uses the PATH_MAX constant unconditionnally. PATH_MAX is optional in POSIX and undefined on GNU/Hurd, as there is no global limit to path sizes. Here is a very simple patch to fix the problem. A better solution would be to use dynamic allocation instead of fixed-size buffers, but that would require a much larger patch. diff -Nurp gimp-2.6.11.orig/plug-ins/common/qbist.c gimp-2.6.11/plug-ins/common/qbist.c --- gimp-2.6.11.orig/plug-ins/common/qbist.c2010-07-03 00:51:56.0 +0200 +++ gimp-2.6.11/plug-ins/common/qbist.c 2010-10-31 01:08:03.764667339 +0200 @@ -41,8 +41,14 @@ #include libgimp/stdplugins-intl.h -#if ! defined PATH_MAX defined _MAX_PATH -# define PATH_MAX _MAX_PATH +#if ! defined PATH_MAX +# if defined _MAX_PATH +#define PATH_MAX _MAX_PATH +# elif defined MAXPATHLEN +#define MAXPATHLEN +# else +#define PATH_MAX 1024 +# endif #endif /** qbist renderer ***/ Thanks! -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: hurd-i386 (i686-AT386) Kernel: GNU-Mach 1.3.99/Hurd-0.3 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I can probably rearrange things to get some space, but it will be nasty since the root partition is also too small :o) Oh yes, /usr/src is already softlinked in my home partition.
