Bug#605974: darcsweb: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: darcsweb Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Wednesday, November 24, 2010, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for darcsweb. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. However, please try to avoid uploading darcsweb with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Wednesday, December 08, 2010, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around Thursday, December 30, 2010, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- darcsweb.old/debian/templates 2010-11-24 08:17:19.209906903 +0100 +++ darcsweb/debian/templates 2010-12-05 09:15:14.433966327 +0100 @@ -1,8 +1,18 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: darcsweb/webserver Type: select -__Choices: Apache, Apache-SSL, Apache2, All, None +__Choices: Apache2, None Default: Apache2 -_Description: Webserver type: - Which kind of web server should be used by darcsweb +_Description: Web server to configure: + Please choose the web server that should be configured automatically + for use with darcsweb. . - Select None if you would like to configure your webserver by hand. + If you choose None, the web server should be configured manually. --- darcsweb.old/debian/control 2010-11-24 08:17:19.205918337 +0100 +++ darcsweb/debian/control 2010-11-26 06:56:10.392429048 +0100 @@ -14,10 +14,9 @@ Depends: ${misc:Depends}, python (= 2.3), darcs Recommends: apache2 | httpd-cgi Description: web interface for browsing darcs repositories - This is a simple web interface for darcs, inspired by gitweb. A packaged version of sqliteodbc 0.87, which fixes all these bugs is at http://people.debian.org/~lmamane/sqliteodbc/ . From: Bob Proulx b...@proulx.com To: Frenchn00b frenchn...@yahoo.com; 605...@bugs.debian.org Sent: Fri, December 3, 2010 10:50:29 PM Subject: Re: Bug#605832: /bin/mv: Issue with mv: inter-device move failed: Frenchn00b wrote: mv PDF /home/gerard/ mv: inter-device move failed: `PDF' to `/home/gerard/PDF'; unable to remove target: Is a directory The target /home/gerard/PDF appears to be a directory. The source also appears to be a directory. You are trying to move a directory on top of an existing directory. Plus this is across devices. The source and destination directories exist on different filesystems. That combination is triggering this problem. But it isn't really a bug in mv so much as a limitation of what can be done in that case. In order to do this mv tries to remove the target so that it can be replaced with the source. But the target is a directory and therefore throws this error. Think about the problem of what mv would need to do if the target directory contained other files. Should it remove those files first? That could get into a loss of data situation. In those situations it is better to copy the files from the source directory into the target directory. Then remove the source if you want it to go away. $ cp -a PDF /home/gerard/ $ ..ifdesired... rm -rf PDF Sometimes people fall into this because they have run a cp command multiple times back to back. The first one copies the directory and then it exists in both places. Then they try to move the directory and find that it already exists. In those cases where one is repeated copying the contents of a directory from one place to another the rsync command is most suited to the task. rsync -a source destdir/ I did ls -ltra and visibly there is no LN link file going on ... I still do not understand what is about this issue What does this say? $ ls -ld PDF /home/gerard/PDF That should show it as a directory in both the source and destination. If the above is not the case then the following are more instructions for getting further information. If your problem is solved by the above then nothing below this is needed. What are the types of the filesystems involved? This can be seen with the 'df -T' option. The type column will say this information. I am wondering if non-unix filesystems such as VFAT are involved? $ df -TP . /home/gerard To get more information it would be useful to trace the system calls and report what mv is doing. The strace command is useful for this. $ sudo apt-get install strace Then use it to strace the mv command and report what it is happening with the system calls like this: $ strace -v -o /tmp/mv.strace.out -e trace=file mv PDF /home/gerard/ Thanks, Bob

I think that in /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart it is just needed to remove --profile LXDE and not the whole line, but except that, the work around works, thanks. It originated from Intel's Data Center Bridging (DCB) software - the dcbd package. The lldpad package adds LLDP support for all ports in addition to DCB Exchange protocol (DCBX) support on DCB capable ports (as was provided by dcbd). Also, support for additional LLDP TLVs has been added. DCB is a collection of emerging standards-based technologies designed to allow Ethernet to support multiple types of traffic classes in the Data Center. The DCBX functionality of this package is designed to work with the DCB kernel interface (dcbnl in rtnetlink) that is included in the Linux kernel 2.6.29 or higher. My system freezes without fglrx driver right after I log in via gdm. It is always reproducible and I will go ahead and create a separate issue on it. I did not manage to reproduce the freeze with just the gdm window left idle. The system does not freeze at this case, but using oith open source and fglrx driver. I managed to get system running over the night using fglrx and it did not freeze. So now my target is to understand what exactly happens after gdm login that makes this bug reproducible. The warning in the log about r8169 is in no way fatal, it just means the network transmit path locked up and had to be reset. By the way, the firmware licencing situation for this driver (bug #564628) looks likely to be resolved soon. Great to hear, but if it is not related to it than it looks to be working without this firmware in my case. -- Anton Martchukov http://www.martchukov.com 0xFC4FBF28 96BC 3DAB 231A 7FCC 4F49 D783 9A69 65C1 FC4F BF28 signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#605977: clamav causes a segfault in dansguardian after most recent update
Sorry, My fault. I moved a couple of days back it to a different machine which was plain lenny without volatile in /etc/apt/sources.lst It worked initially, so I did not notice the problem. You can close or merge this one with the existing clamav disabled upstream bug. Apologies, Brgds, Michael Tautschnig wrote: Hi, Package: clamav Version: 0.94.dfsg.2-1lenny2 Severity: important Clamav causes dansguardian to segfault. Packages in lenny haven't change in a while. Given the version of your clamav packages, however, you are almost surely facing the problem of clamav being disabled anyway via upstream's signatures. You might want to take a look at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=550296 and should switch over to the up-to-date packages provided in the volatile repository (see http://www.debian.org/volatile/). Bug#605159: gnumed-client: Use of PYTHONPATH env var in an insecure way
On 11/30/2010 05:25 PM, Andreas (Debian) wrote: Hi, thanks to the support of upstream there is a new release which fixes the issue. However, the issue does not even really exist in *effective* upstream code - it is just contained in a *comment* which is simlpy activated in a patch in the Debian packaging. So I wonder what might be the best strategy to handle this. 1. Use upstream bugfix version which provides the proper PYTHONPATH setting in the comment which will be activated later plus a 7 line patch in some unrelated code which is unlikely to break something else. 2. Simply patch 0.7.9 to fix only the reported issue but leave a nasty bug in upstream. All other changes in the code are autogenerated documentation changes and thus excluded via --exclude=*user-manual* --exclude=*api* from the diff (also --exclude=Gnumed was used to hide duplication of diffs because directory Gnumed is a symlinc to client). My prefered solution is to upload 0.7.10 to testing-proposed-updates (because there is just a version 0.8.4 in unstable). Uploading 0.7.10 to t-p-u is fine. Could you please go ahead with the upload? Bug#605990: rsync: the use of / or not is highly confusing and source of errors
Package: rsync Version: 3.0.7-2 Severity: wishlist When using / at the end of source, rsync will copy the content of the last folder. When not using / at the end of destination, rsync will create a folder with the last destination folder name and paste the data inside that folder. However compatible with POSIX, the use of / especially for the source, I would have say that it does the opposite. this folder + / or folder without / at the end should do the same results as does CP or MV (copy and move respectively) I would guess that it will be fixed in the next releases, since it is source of many errors and misinterpretation. Bug#605992: loudmouth: using system libasyncns without Depends cause FTBFS in at least mcabber
Package: loudmouth Version: 1.4.3-6 Severity: serious Hi! Timing is pretty bad, unfortunately the change to use the system libasyncns instead of the embedded causes troubles because packages that formerly only did build-depend on libloudmouth-dev now also needs to build-depend on libasyncns-dev (like mcabber). As quick and non-intrusive fix I would suggest to add libasyncns-dev to the depends of the libloudmouth-dev package so no depending package requires a change for now, and inform the reverse-depends of that package that they might need to change their build-depends after the squeeze release (and drop it shortly after that again). Bug#605998: Text View behaves weirdly
Package: kompare Version: 4:4.4.5-1 Under the Settings menu, there is an option Show Text View. There are several things surprising with this text view: 1. The option is not saved anywhere, so if I select the text view, close kompare and reopen it, the text view is gone and I have to activate it again. I would have expected that kompare remembers things selected under Settings. 2. The position in the text view is the last difference, regardless of which position in the source/target views I selected previously. The position also doesn't move, neither the position in the source/target view when moving through the text view nor the one in the text view when moving through the source/target views. 3. I can edit text in the text view. I have looked around a bit, but I couldn't find any lasting effect of these edits. They neither show up in source/target view nor after saving the files. 4. I can not really edit text in the text view. For example, trying to type a space triggers a hotkey that is bound to Apply Difference instead. 5. I can't detach the text view from the main window. If I do, it looses all its content and decoration. Further, I get a stream of errors on stdout: X Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) 8 Major opcode: 62 (X_CopyArea) Resource id: 0x58053fc These come every second or so while the mouse is inside the detached window which I can still move and resize or reattach, which restores the content and stops the errors. I tried with dolphin, which uses similar detachable windows and there I don't have any such problems. I tried with both fluxbox and icewm in order to rule out the WM as the problem for this. Cheers! I had a look at the actual situation in TeX Live 2009: the file does not exist any more in TL. The only file named XDvi is in /etc/texmf/xdvi . I renamed the file and run mktexlsr. Nevertheless texconfig-sys init run through fine. So I guess the situation has been resolved. Can we close this issue or should we reassign it to texlive-binaries? That _does_ help. I had some troubles with X and I may have corrupted the whole /etc/X11/ during fixing this. This might well be, but it isn't your fault that this stops the whole installation. So I recreated the empty /etc/X11/app-defaults/XDvi to complete the installation. Maybe initex could be modified to give a clear error message and fail/complete it's task more gracefully. Bug#606000: libmail-spf-query-perl: Incorrect query results with IPv6 addresses; should warn about missing IPv6 support and/or fail graciously
Package: libmail-spf-query-perl Version: 1:1.999.1-3 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Using Mail::SPF::Query with an IPv6 enabled mailserver (increasingly common today, and bound to get even more common due to the shortage of IPv4 addresses) leads to mail being blocked incorrectly. The spfquery helper script used in the example configuration for exim4 interprets any supplied IPv6 address as an IPv4 address and tries to match it against the ip4 part of SPF information. This obviously fails and leads to incorrectly blocked/rejected mail if the SPF policy uses fail instead of softfail. The missing IPv6 support is documented in the BUGS section of the Mail::SPF::Query manpage, but not in any documentation for spfquery itself. In addition, spfquery or Mail::SPF::Query do not report any error when being supplied with an IPv6 address. As IPv6 deployments are getting increasingly common, the script and/or the module should display an error message in this case or should at least fail graciously. In addition, a prominent warning should be displayed about the inability to deal with IPv6 addresses. Imagine that the trailing slash has a dot appended to it (which effectively it does). Then how it works is what you would expect. I would guess that it will be fixed in the next releases, since it is source of many errors and misinterpretation. It's more that people won't take the time to understand how it works. When in doubt, use the -n switch together with -v and/or -i to see what it would do. Experiment a bit with this, then it will become clear. Rsync is a very powerful tool, it's not meant to be easy, it's meant to be as useful as possible :-) An easy solution would be to add a switch to say to copy/move content of folders or not. I think that the chances of such a switch being added are small, as: - to find this switch one would need to read the documentation thoroughly - reading the documentation thoroughly would show that sucha switch is not necessary as its function is available through using a trailing slash or not. Hence I'm marking this bug as wontfix. Paul -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#604114: dpkg: version '/usr/share/myspell/dicts' has bad syntax: invalid character in version number
reassign 604114 dpkg 1.15.8.5 tag 604114 -moreinfo -unreproducible thanks Hello Kurt, Kurt Roeckx [2010-11-21 22:22 +0100]: This only seems to happen when upgrading from the version in testing, or installing the version in testing. That version still has files in /usr/share/myspell/dicts/, 2.0-1 doesn't anymore. I added a set -x at the top of the postinst, I get: + . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule + [ ! ] + PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 + export PERL_DL_NONLAZY + [ ] + exec /usr/share/debconf/frontend /var/lib/dpkg/info/postgresql-common.postinst triggered /usr/share/myspell/dicts dpkg: version '/usr/share/myspell/dicts' has bad syntax: invalid character in version number + . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule Confirmed. In squeeze, installing postgresql-common, then myspell-nl will reproduce this. According to [1] above call of the p-common postinst looks correct, /usr/share/myspell/dicts is a valid trigger name that p-common subscribes to. It looks like debconf or dpkg itself tries to interpret $2 as a version number even if $1 = triggered; with any other valid $1, $2 is indeed a version number, so it seems this particular case isn't handled here? This might also be a bug in debconf, but since the error message says dpkg I reassign this to dpkg. Bug#605218: Same problem: fresh installation
I've just reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04 using the Wubi download and my first action is to try to get the Epson SX215 scanner working. It never worked in the previous installation because of an 'Error: Wrong architecture 'i386'' message. I've now worked out I needed the ia32-libs_20101117_amd64.deb (I'm still an Ubuntu novice) but that fails to install as reported here. However, the flash patch ia32-libs-workaround-499043 has not been installed (I've checked by trying to purge it). I installed the ia32-libs but still no joy. David

Bug#606007: GSSAPI: Modifications to chroot.
Package: postfix Version: 2.5.5-1.1 Severity: important I'm not sure if this is a feature, bug, or inconvenience. However I've had to create the following files and folders to get GSSAPI working. I'm concerned about the security implications of altering a chroot. /var/spool/postfix/etc/krb5.conf /var/spool/postfix/etc/krb5.keytab /var/spool/postfix/var/tmp The conf file is needed for the default Realm name, I don't know why this can't be set using DNS or something. The tmp folder is used by the library and must exist and be writable. I used the following for these folders: drwx--x--x 3 rootroot 4096 Dec 5 13:39 /var/spool/postfix/var d-wx-- 2 postfix root 4096 Dec 5 13:41 /var/spool/postfix/var/tmp I'd certainly appreciate a better solution, like sasl/krb5 proxy. After all this my setup is still untestable, has anyone got this to work? I'm concerned about issues with my client, but the error I'm getting currently is: Wrong principal in request It's not correct, I'm certainly using the correct principal... AFAICT. I'm going to look at /var/spool/postfix/etc/hostname for example. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.6 APT prefers stable APT policy: (900, 'stable'), (800, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.35.4-rscloud (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages postfix depends on: ii adduser 3.110 add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf- 1.5.24 Debian configuration management sy ii dpkg 1.14.29+b1 Debian package management system ii libc6 2.11.2-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libdb4.6 4.6.21-11 Berkeley v4.6 Database Libraries [ ii libsasl2-22.1.22.dfsg1-23+lenny1 Cyrus SASL - authentication abstra ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8g-15+lenny9 SSL shared libraries ii lsb-base 3.2-20 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii netbase 4.34 Basic TCP/IP networking system ii ssl-cert 1.0.23 simple debconf wrapper for OpenSSL postfix recommends no packages. Bug#605964: [Pkg-libvirt-maintainers] Bug#605964: libvirt-bin: sometimes(randomly) crashes when connecting using python-libvirt
tag 605964 +unreproducible thanks, On Sun, Dec 05, 2010 at 04:09:04PM +1100, david b wrote: Package: libvirt-bin Version: 0.8.3-5 Severity: normal I cannot reliably reproduce this, but here is the python I was using to crash libvirt-bin (sometimes): import libvirt import sys def main(): #conn = libvirt.openReadOnly(None) conn = libvirt.openReadOnly(qemu:///system) print conn.isSecure() print conn.listDefinedDomains() if __name__ == __main__: main() I was switching between a conn None and the conn connected to qemu:///system. The conn (established with None in the call) seems to be talking to virtualbox. When it crashes I see something like this: [46609.226658] libvirtd[2139]: segfault at 7fa018db5bdf ip 00419293 sp 7fa013d8a270 error 7 in libvirtd[40+dc000] or this [49173.212641] libvirtd[15647]: segfault at 7f9ac72acbdf ip 7f9acb7bcb73 sp 7f9ac2a82270 error 7 in libvirtd[7f9acb79c000+e5000] in dmesg output. Again not reproducible here. Since (from the other report) you seem to use gdb just grab the debug package and produce a backtrace. Valgrind might help here too. Also please check with libvirt from experimental.
