Bug#603450: Adopting offlineimap
Hi John! * John Ferlito jo...@inodes.org [100719 15:22]: I've already done some work on cleaning up the package, so it is now lintian clean. Will begin work on fixing a whole heap of the bugs next. Am aiming to be come the new upstream maintainer. Looking over the list of release critical bugs, I stumbled over the package offlineimap, which currently has one release critical bug open (and therefore risks of being removed from the release, http:/bugs.debian.org/603450 for details). I'm just wondering, if you are still interested in maintain this package, and if you could help prepare a fix for this bug in time. It would be a shame, if we couldn't ship offlineimape any more :( Best Regards, Alexander signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#586685: gdm3: User's .Xauthority file is ignored

In the acpi-support-base package, the file /usr/share/acpi-support/power-funcs assumes XAUTHORITY=$userhome/.Xauthority I don't know if it's a bug in the acpi-support-base scripts or in gdm3, but it breaks power saving when my laptop's lid is closed here... :/ It is a bug in acpi-support-base, which should definitely not use the display, not being part of the user’s session. Bug#606273: libsoup2.4-1: libsoup prefers IPv4
Le mercredi 08 décembre 2010 à 00:05 +0100, Yves-Alexis Perez a écrit : it seems that libsoup prevents me from having correct IPv6 access. I have a working IPv6 setup, but none of my browser will use it because they are all webkit (and thus libsoup) based. Bug#606299: dictionaries-common: possible *.el file conflicts - Already included in Emacs
Package: dictionaries-common Version: 1.5.16 Severity: normal Please consider removing the *.el files or adjusting debian/control::Depends as they are already included in latest Emacs since 1999. Is there a way to fix this without recompiling the kernel from scratch myself? This is a bug in procps. It's relying on some version information which is only present in System.map if the kernel was configured without CONFIG_KALLSYMS set. Actually this is not so clear. The error message ps shows when you set PS_SYSTEM_MAP is incorrect, but then ps shouldn't even need System.map when the kernel is configured with CONFIG_KALLSYMS! This is just the Debian testing generic kernel for AMD64. I see there is an entry /proc/kallsyms that exports the symbols. That looks just fine. However, wchan cannot be provided when the 'omit frame pointer' optimisation is used in the kernel. We enable that optimisation on x86 kernels, and have done for some time. Hmmm. I though omit frame pointer only makes sense on x86. This is AMD64. When I run ps under strace, it neither tries to open /proc/kallsyms, nor /boot/System.map*!? By automatically rebuilding and testing the tree each time something has changed, build problems are pinpointed quickly, before other developers are inconvenienced by the failure. The guilty developer can be identified and harassed without human intervention. . By running the builds on a variety of platforms, developers who do not have the facilities to test their changes everywhere before checkin will at least know shortly afterwards whether they have broken the build or not. Warning counts, lint checks, image size, compile time, and other build parameters can be tracked over time, are more visible, and are therefore easier to improve. On Wed, 8 Dec 2010 08:46:40 +0100 Andreas Tille ti...@debian.org wrote: Consequently libctapimkt0-dev was removed from testing (since a long time) and this is correct for this package. A wishlist for a common interface doesn't seem to me to be sufficient to stop the library getting into Squeeze - it is usable alone. An apropriate thing to do would have been to reassign bug #557495 only against libctapimkt0-dev which would enable libtowitoko-dev to stay in testing (because there is no chance to install both packages together in testing any more). Any reason why this had not already been done? It is possible to install both in unstable and that problem alone isn't sufficient, IMHO, to prevent both going into Squeeze. It was just a hint, no detail, no proof or way for others to test. This bug isn't enough to prevent either package being in Squeeze - The package libctapimkt0-dev is *not* in Squeeze! Feel free to cancel the delayed upload. However, from your description I still don't see why it should not be in Squeeze. I have not expected that people will spend their time on fixing bugs in packages which are not in Squeeze. The bug was filed against both packages without resolution. I could have just fixed one side of it but as the fix was trivial fro both, it seemed to make sense to do it for both. You could have saved your time if you would have pinged me about your intend. Equally if the bug report had been cloned / commented / updated with more than the content I've been able to see so far, I would have just done one side of it. At this stage of the freeze, RC bug reports which have been open as long as this one are worth fixing. It seems such a trivial reason to have to remove the package from Squeeze. You have spended time to clean up a package with very low popcon which is not intended for Squeeze. Actually, I've spent more time discussing the lack of content in the replies to the original bug report than in preparing the upload. This is brave and I welcome your work but at least for me there are currently more burning issues to do. If you want me to discuss the issue further instead of trusting me that I'm in contact with upstream and will handle things with upstream *after* the Squeeze release I prefer removing the package for now and adding it later again. OK - it's in delayed, so feel free to cancel it. -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ http://e-mail.is-not-s.ms/ pgpbSu5hNgXNJ.pgp Description: PGP signature

It looks like the collector is still running for some reason; of course, while it is running and has that proc filesystem open - it cannot be unmounted. Bug#603428: snort: prompting due to modified conffiles which where not modified by the user
Hi! * Holger Levsen hol...@layer-acht.org [101114 01:02]: But this is not the real problem, the real problem is that this prompt shows up in the first place, as there was nobody modifying this conffile at all, the package has just been installed and upgraded... It seems that upon installation of snort-pgsql or snort-mysql /etc/snort/snort.conf is changed. As this file actually belongs to snort-common, upgrade of that package fails. So, to solve this bug, snort-common should remove these entries in it's preinst, while snort-pgsql and snort-mysql add their configuration snippets in a policy conform way. It seems the easiest way to do this would be to include an /etc/snort/snort-database.conf by default, and let that file be a non-configuration file handled by snort-*sql... It also seems that it must be at least an empty file, as snort doesn't start if one of it's configuration files doesn't exists. I think I could try to prepare an NMU for that, but would like to ask for comments before doing so. Best regards, Alexander signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#600241: #600241: Xen Hypervisor can only boot if acpi=off parameter is used.
It's hard to tell without full logs but since this is a Dell 410 there is a possibility that this is the same bug as #603632. Please test with kernel 2.6.32-29 when it is uploaded (which should be later this week). If this does not help then please provide a full log of the boot. Bug#606278: [buildd-tools-devel] Bug#606278: aptitude resolver is completely broken in 0.60.6

It's working fine on my system, so I wonder what's different? It's clearly failing when trying to create the dummy dependency package. What is the content of /tmp/resolver-nGygHK ? /tmp/resolver-* is created on my system, but 'dpkg-deb', '--build' is run inside chroot session. So I guess I have to bind mount /tmp since 0.60.6 or is this unintentional? Totally unintentional. I'll fix it to use a path inside the chroot, and this should be fixed. I do bind mount /tmp on my system; I'll stop doing that in the future. When I bind-mounted /tmp, it went a bit further but now it failed with: dpkg-deb: building package `sbuild-build-depends-core-dummy' in `/tmp/resolver-D4hCcH/apt_archive/sbuild-build-depends-core-dummy.deb'. gpg: no default secret key: secret key not available gpg: signing failed: secret key not available Failed to sign dummy archive Release file. Core source dependencies not satisfied; skippingNot cleaning session: cloned chroot in use I guess now it wants a key. I spotted `sbuild-update --keygen` in the changelog and used it. Now it went much further but failed to pick up required build-deps from experimental (attached). Please note that sbuild 0.60.5 was fine with this phonon-backend-vlc dsc (get it from incoming). The key should have been autogenerated if you didn't run sbuild-update --keygen. I'll take a look into that as well. This means that my setup might need even more changes now. Well, sigh. It begs the question why it has to be so complicated? The main reason is so that apt-get and aptitude can install the dependency package directly from an archive. The existing practice of breaking the system by forcing installation of the package and then getting the package manager to fix up the breakage wasn't that nice. This is cleaner and more robust. Your comment about the entropy is valid. However, this only needs doing once ever, and you can then use the same key for all builds. You can even generate it on another machine if you wish. I guess that's the cause, indeed, but that should propabably make duplicity overcome, since, in that case, that's not the latest full backup that needs to be restored (hopefully). actually duplicity should not make such a mess in the first place... quick question: this looks like an external harddisk, right? are you certain that you never-ever unplugged that disk before the system buffers were written out? (also, is write caching enabled for that disk?) that's the simplest explanation i can think of that would explain 'some blank files that shouldn't be blank, without anybody noticing'. Should I file a bug upstream, then ? to be honest, i'm not sure whether it makes sense to add further complexity to duplicity to deal with this very screwed up situation: an unreadable manifest might be recovered from the actual backup, sure, but as you said some of the actual volumes were also gone... as a workaround for now i'd move the damaged manifest and volumes to a different directory and then retry the restore. regards az -- + Alexander Zangerl + DSA 42BD645D + (RSA 5B586291) Our OS who art in CPU, UNIX be thy name. Bug#606221: Downgrade gcc dependency to recommends - Or: What's the gcc dependency for?
Am Dienstag, den 07.12.2010, 17:31 +0100 schrieb Loïc Minier: On Tue, Dec 07, 2010, Daniel Leidert wrote: pbuilder depends on gcc, so it pulls in a compiler on a system, where I don't want to have a compiler for everybody. But why does it depend on gcc? There is no gcc dependency for (c)debootstrap like stated in the changelog entry for 0.10. Further the gcc dependency had been removed in version 0.187. There is no information about why it has been re-added nor when? Can this dependency please be dropped (fortunately already for squeeze) or downgraded? This might be for dpkg-dev/dpkg-source which guesses the host system by looking at gcc -dumpmachine; see /usr/share/perl5/Dpkg/Arch.pm Well, dpkg-dev recommends gcc, but pbuilder does not even depend on dpkg-dev. It recommends devscripts, which then depends on dpkg-dev. But if using --use-pdebuild-internal then the existence of these packages is IMO not required. I can't see a reason for this dependency and the changelog doesn't tell, why it had been re-added. IMO it is safe to downgrade this dependency to a recommendation (like dpkg-dev does) or drop it completely for pbuilder. If such a DNS server is detected, the resolver switches (permanently for that process) to a mode where the second request is sent only when the first answer has been received. This means the first request will be timeout, but subsequent requests should be fast again. It shouldn't be a candidate for removal if we explicitly asked for its installation? The patch I attached in my other mail should solve all the other issues. - dummy packages are created correctly - local archive created correctly - archive signing key created correctly - archive signed correctly - dummy packages install from archive correctly I'll add back the above aptitude option if it's still required, but if you could test the attached patch and let me know if there are any remaining problems, that would be great. Indeed it looks suspicious. I do not know where it comes from (do I still have an old config file lying around?) and whether it is harmless. Well, in the gconf case, the config file is the gconf database, more precisely ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard. You can use the gconftool-2 command to change it. I used the gconf-editor to erase jp106 substring from layouts, and this has cured the popup error messages. This also disabled Russian keyboard, though. gconftool-2 showed layouts = [jp], as expected. Then I added the keyboard I need via Gnome interface, and got it working. gconftool-2 shows layouts = [jp, ru phonetic] as it was needed. I suppose this is resolved is some way, at least for me. Bug#606275: atheist: OutContains is not implemented
tags 606275 + upstream severity 606275 minor thanks. Hi Serfeim, thanks a lot for your bug report. I am going to ask to upstream about this but I think OutContains condition has never been implemented. Instead of this, you can use FileContains condition. In fact, FileContains condition has the task output as default filename value. I think this bug has a trivial solution. So, I change it to minor severity. Shortly, I will resolve this issue with upstream. Cheers, Cleto.

I have a working IPv6 setup, but none of my browser will use it because they are all webkit (and thus libsoup) based. A quick way to reproduce is to go to www.kame.net with midori, epiphany or chromium. The famous “dancing turtle” isn't dancing. I’m afraid I cannot reproduce that with my epiphany installation. I tried www.kame.net and the turtle is dancing. I tried my own website and looked at the logs, and epiphany definitely accessed it using IPv6. Ok, I guess I'm bitten by the fix applied for #468801. My IPv6 addresses are indeed 6to4 and so IPv4 is preferred. That quite sucks, but it's not really libsoup fault. I'm closing the bug for now and will try to tune my gai.conf to fix that, sorry for bothering. Fwiw, adding: scopev4 :::192.168.0.0/112 5 to /etc/gai.conf fixes the problem. Bug#606260: Amendment to bug report
On 12/08/2010 03:31 AM, Olivier Berger wrote: On Tue, Dec 07, 2010 at 05:23:09PM -0500, Bob Kline wrote: I wrote that the installed documentation lists schoenf...@in-medias-res.com as the administrator of the package, where I meant to write ... as the maintainer What exactly did you try to do in mailing him. FYI, the current maintainer is mentioned in http://packages.qa.debian.org/m/mantis.html In Debian, I can see no general reason to contact a maintainer directly. In case of problems, the BTS is where to go. I was just following the instructions I was given following a package update: Replacing config file /etc/mantis/config_db.php with new version *** WARNING: ucf was run from a maintainer script that uses debconf, but the script did not pass --debconf-ok to ucf. The maintainer script should be fixed to not stop debconf before calling ucf, and pass it this parameter. For now, ucf will revert to using old-style, non-debconf prompting. Ugh! Please inform the package maintainer about this problem. If the instructions had asked me to file a bug report, I would have filed a bug report. Since they asked me to inform the maintainer, that's what I did. Hope this helps. -- Bob Kline http://www.rksystems.com mailto:bkl...@rksystems.com
