Bug#631567: [linux-source-2.6.39] Recompiled kernel crash on kms with radeon HD6670

Often the recompiled kernel (with a debian-way: make-kpkg --initrd
binary-arch) crashed on loading of the KMS.

The system is freezed, the keyboard is dead, the machine doesn't answer
at the ping and I can only reset the machine

I haven't any debug information because this crash show a black screen
and no file (dmesg, kern.log, messages, ecc) are written

This has never happened with the kernel 2.6.38 (and the config is the
 same)

The config cannot actually be the same, since each kernel version has
different config variables.

and seems (for now) not happen with a pre-build kernel (I have
 tried linux-image-2.6.39-2-686-pae)

I have attached at this mail the .config used for my custom kernel, I
 hope it is useful.

The radeon card is a HD6670 (chip TURKS)

Does it work if you set CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=m, or build the appropriate
firmware into the kernel?

Does it work if you set CONFIG_AGP=y and CONFIG_AGP_AMD64=y?

Ben.

Well, as you wish, but I am still curious:

 - what has fixed the symptoms
 - does glibc really have issues with non-aligned src/destination
   memcpy/memmove() calls?
 - does Libav 0.6 use overlapping memcpys?
 - does Libav 0.7? (as currently found in experimental)

Hello,

the change which is causing the breakage is located in

file from 2.8.4+dfsg.1-5 to /usr/share/cmake-2.8/Modules/ compilation
will succeed.

Bug#487397: markdown code block doesn't generate html entities

2011-06-25 Thread Kenyon Ralph
Package: ikiwiki
Version: 3.20100815.7
Severity: normal

If I put XML in a markdown code block like this,

merge key=input.x11_driver type=stringkbd/merge

then all that appears in the ikiwiki-generated HTML is kbd. If I
manually convert the angle brackets to HTML entities, then the whole
line appears in the generated HTML, but it's not surrounded by code
tags. The same line generates correct HTML inside markdown backticks.

Is this the same bug as what's reported here and at
http://ikiwiki.info/bugs/wiki_links_still_processed_inside_code_blocks/?

my bad. while these files are elf object files, they only contain export

Steve McIntyre. Support for bz2 was added to dpkg 1.10.24 in 2004 and

bzip2 is a joke, redundant with xz, and re-compressing
already-compressed files does not gain us anything.
 Furthermore, using tarball-in-tarball packaging was
deprecared in 2009 or so. I got told off for that
myself, and the “new” cvs package provides the source
that’s used for compiling on dpkg-source -x, as many
people wanted. So I would have needed to change the
.orig.tar.gz already, anyway. Besides, the +real will
go away with cvs 1.12.14 release.

Good to hear your intent but GNU upstream seems to be very quiet.
Let's hope someday, we see cvs 1.12.14 release.

(FYI: Your assertion of bzip2 is a joke was surprise to me. If you
said lzma, it made sense to me. Anyway, both lzma and xz suffix are
still too new if you think of supporting backports in Debian and
Ubuntu. But here, I think you are making judgement as the maintainer
and I am happy with you holding this position.)

I did not experiment or tested, but most likely, since dpkg-scanpackage
put priority to package.bz2 over package.gz, you could have used and
uploaded real 1.12.13.orig.tar.bz2 while building package with
 dpkg-buildpackage option -sa.

Bug#631592: ncurses should provide a termlib library

2011-06-25 Thread Matthias Klose
Package: ncurses
Version: 5.9-1
Severity: important

ncurses should be configured with --with-termlib so that packages which do not
rely on the symbols exported by ncurses/ncursesw, but only on symbols found in
libtermlib. Not having a libtermlib would need proliferation of non-wide/wide
library builds for every library depending on ncurses/ncursesw. The first
library needing this is libreadline.

See http://bugs.debian.org/602720 for the initial report and the discussion with
the upstream author. Building libtermlib seems to be the standard way to build
ncurses for other distributions.

Having the ability to do e.g.

would permit the user to set specific environment variables

set them in their environment /and/ add them to the

environment filter entirely.

Bug#487397: markdown code block doesn't generate html entities

If I put XML in a markdown code block like this,

 merge key=input.x11_driver type=stringkbd/merge

then all that appears in the ikiwiki-generated HTML is kbd. If I
manually convert the angle brackets to HTML entities, then the whole
line appears in the generated HTML, but it's not surrounded by code
tags. The same line generates correct HTML inside markdown backticks.

Is this the same bug as what's reported here and at
 http://ikiwiki.info/bugs/wiki_links_still_processed_inside_code_blocks/?

Actually, it looks like the problem with the code block only happens
when the code block comes immediately after a bulleted list. So maybe
this is a different bug.

Bug#624016: 100% CPU usage

2011-06-25 Thread Cristian Greco
On Tue, 26 Apr 2011 11:44:15 +0200
Chris Laberti chrislabe...@gmail.com wrote:

I have just installed a clean Wheezy and tried qbittorrent there (the
provided v2.4.11) and it runs fine here (CPU usage is normal).

I think I understood what the problem is:

a.) 2.2.11 (using 0.14) works when you erase the user folder
b.) 2.4.11 (using 0.14) also works when you erase the user folder
c.) When you are downloading torrents and decide to upgrade from
2.2.11 to 2.4.11 and do not erase the user folder, then that is when
the 100% CPU problem happens. (At upgrade there is a message that
warns the user that a backup is being made just in case the user
decides to downgrade because files are handles differently in the new
version.) Therefore, it seems that 2.4.11 cannot correctly handle a
2.2.11 user folder. I think the reverse is also true: 2.2.11 cannot
correctly handle a 2.4.11 user folder. Also, just by clicking on some
torrents on the list, the application crashes. Therefore, the solution
I found is to simply erase the user folder but of course you have to
re-download the ones you were downloading before.

Please note that the 100% CPU issue may not happen immediately, it may
 take a few minutes/hours.

This might be caused by a specific torrent or tracker (I remember
there used to be a libtorrent bug that would cause high cpu usage with
  some strange tracker URLs).

 I use thepiratebay.org's torrent files.

Hi,

closing this bug report as you managed to fix the problem yourself.

BTW, qBittorrent in wheezy works fine, so the problem was either user
config folder or some problematic .torrent file.

Thanks,

Bug#631592: ncurses should provide a termlib library

2011-06-25 Thread Thomas Dickey

On Sat, 25 Jun 2011, Matthias Klose wrote:

Clarification:

a) the library itself is normally named libtinfo.
b) the configure script option is named --with-termlib.

Some other implementations for instance install symbolic links equating
libtermcap, libterm and libcurses (looking at Solaris). Rather than
use those names, I chose one that didn't conflict with existing usage.

(In retrospect, it might also have been a Good Idea to add a symlink
for libtinfo in the normal --without-termlib build, but again, that
can conflict one way or another...)

This package provides notification-daemon. So does xfce4-notifyd. The
problem is that this package does not work in xfce4. So there is no way
to get any on-screen notifications in xfce4 if you also have kde
  installed.

I don't get it. You *want* plasma-widgets-workspace under Xfce (I don't
really think it would work, but maybe) or you just want notifications?

plasma-widgets-workspace provides the interfaces as specified by the
 so-called
'galago-spec', so I don't see anything wrong with having plasma-widgets-
 workspace provide it.

On the other hand, having xfce4-notifyd conflict with it is something else ...

Afair there's an issue with having multiple notification daemon
installed at once since they ship the same dbus service file. It might
have changed though, I'll try to look at this

Bug#631602: calendarserver: looking for /usr/bin/twistd, provided by python-twisted-core (which is not a dependency)

2011-06-25 Thread Conor Hughes
Package: calendarserver

My install of calendarserver started looking for /usr/bin/twistd, which did not

fixed the issue, as did installing python-twisted-core (which provides

Bug#631487: grub-imageboot: please adapt or document seemingly random usage of the option raw

2011-06-25 Thread Carsten Hey
I attached a variant of 60_grub-imageboot with the following changes
 * Make stripping filename extentions more robust.
 * Improve quoting.
 * Refactor.

This is based on the packages git head with additionally
http://grml.org/patches/0001-Probe-device-where-image-is-being-stored-using-grub_.patch
applied.

* Carsten Hey [2011-06-24 11:49 +0200]:
Two ways to make grub-imageboot more configurable that come to my mind
 are:
  * read options for ${imagefile} from ${imagefile}.config if it exists
  * let the users add additional file name extensions with custom options
in /etc/default/grub-imageboot, e.g., .raw-hdd, which uses raw and
harddisk as options

 * a new config file with the following syntax (lines starting with
   # could be ignored):
   [FILENAME] [OPTION] ...

Carsten

Package: iceweasel

There I was on a certain website (which I already forgot), trying to
upload photos.

Because iceweasel's upload file chooser is case sensitive, and the site
told it to select *.jpg, *.gif, etc. I had to do
mv DSCN3291.JPG DSCN3291.jpg
mv DSCN3292.JPG DSCN3292.jpg
before I was able to select any of my pictures.

Bug#560258: against closing

2011-06-25 Thread Sergey Ivanov
Your logic kills me :(. Reasons agains closing:

1) 'apt-get source' and 'apt-get install' SHOULD be synchronized at
least because they are subcommand of SAME command
2) Linux is open-source system. In particular it means that user MIGHT
at any moment be able to install his own edition of any package.
3) Procedure for punt 2 is common for all packages (at least in DEbian
distro, in other distros maybe other common story, dont't mind) via
'configure-make-make install' and shouldn't be depend neither on linux
distro nor package itself
4) Distro developer should ensure punt 3 via edition all
preconfiguring scripts according to distro itself. In our case you can
in configure script create that temp deb package that supposed to
created now in your 'inconsistent' way.

Besides i just wonder what interest deb could support that
inconsistent with any script that i can edit in Makefile?

Kind regards,
Sergey Ivanov

Bug#601529: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the adjtimex package

2011-06-25 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear maintainer of adjtimex and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the adjtimex Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four
days, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs da de es eu fi fr gl it ja nb nl pl pt pt_BR ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: pl

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the adjtimex package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Sunday, July 03,
2011. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Monday, June 20, 2011 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Saturday, June 25, 2011 : send this notice
Sunday, July 03, 2011 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Monday, July 04, 2011 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Monday, July 11, 2011 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Bug#631608: inputattach spins CPU at 100%

2011-06-25 Thread Alexander Clouter
Package: inputattach
Version: 1:1.4-1
Severity: important
Tags: upstream patch

When booting, inputattach tries to hook up my serial port for some w8001 action
but causes the CPU instead to spin at 100%. strace'ing shows it's spinning on
read(3,NULL,0) and is returning EBUSY; /proc/$PID/fd/3 points to /dev/ttyS0.

Looking at the source I found the following caused the problem:

http://linuxconsole.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/linuxconsole?view=revisionrevision=2422

http://linuxconsole.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/linuxconsole/trunk/utils/inputattach.c?r1=2412r2=2422pathrev=2422

We need to tell Kees Cook that errno does actually have more than two values
(not just zero and EINTR) and reading manpages helps ;P

Attached is a fix that seems to work after a suspend/resume cycle and of course
on a fresh boot.

Thanks though to Kee's on finding what the actual hiccup was in the first place
though, it's removed another thing off my todo list.

Cheers

Bug#631573: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#631573: plasma-widgets-workspace: Forces removal of xfce4-notifyd

This package provides notification-daemon. So does xfce4-notifyd. The
problem is that this package does not work in xfce4. So there is no way
to get any on-screen notifications in xfce4 if you also have kde
installed.

I don't get it. You *want* plasma-widgets-workspace under Xfce (I don't
really think it would work, but maybe) or you just want notifications?
I want to install both kde and xfce on my system and have notifications
working in both. With the latest updates to kde in sid, updating kde
forces me to uninstall xfce4-notifyd. And since
plasma-widgets-workspace does not work under xfce, I get no
notifications in xfce.

This did not happen with earlier versions of kde in sid. It started
with the update to kde 4.6.4. Prior to that I had both DE's installed
with no problems. So on the surface this would appear to be a kde
problem, which is why I originally filed the bug there.

I did try to re-install xfce4-notifyd after updating kde. But apt wants
to un-install important parts of kde, such as plasma-desktop, so that's
not a solution. It is not surprising though since
plasma-widgets-workspace is a dependency of plasma-desktop.

plasma-widgets-workspace provides the interfaces as specified by the so-called
'galago-spec', so I don't see anything wrong with having plasma-widgets-
workspace provide it.

On the other hand, having xfce4-notifyd conflict with it is something else ...

Afair there's an issue with having multiple notification daemons
installed at once since they ship the same dbus service file. It might
have changed though, I'll try to look at this
Apparently there is an issue now, anyway. Thanks for looking into it.
Hope this clarifies what I am seeing.

Bug#631609: FTBFS: can not find install-sh or install.sh

2011-06-25 Thread Ilya Barygin
Package: jailer
Version: 0.4-16
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu oneiric ubuntu-patch

Hello, jailer failed to build in Ubuntu because of broken symlink. install-sh
points to /usr/share/automake/install-sh, which is not present in automake
package. The build fails with the following error:

dh_testdir
../configure --prefix=/usr --mandir=\${prefix}/share/man
--infodir=\${prefix}/share/info --sysconfdir=/etc
creating cache ./config.cache
configure: error: can not find install-sh or install.sh in . ./.. ./../..
make: *** [build-stamp] Error 1
dpkg-buildpackage: error: debian/rules build gave error exit status 2

This also affects sid, and is reproducible with pbuilder.

Full log for Ubuntu can be found at
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/72709571/buildlog_ubuntu-oneiric-i386.jailer_0.4-16_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz

To fix this for Ubuntu, I used dh_autoreconf as a very nonintrusive change.
The patch is attached.

So, I got libc upgraded to 2.13-7

Then I tried converting another video with ffmpeg, and it works...

  - does glibc really have issues with non-aligned src/destination
memcpy/memmove() calls?
  - does Libav 0.6 use overlapping memcpys?
  - does Libav 0.7? (as currently found in experimental)

Could you help me answering your questions? Thanks

Bug#631590: znc periodically ends up in cpu-crunching EAGAIN loops

2011-06-25 Thread Uli Schlachter
Easy way to reproduce:

nc -l -p 1230
Then add 127.0.0.1 +6667 as an IRC server (important: ssl!) and see it eat all
the CPU time. I'm not yet 100% sure what exactly happens, but it's definitely
waiting for the SSL handshake to finish.

@Michael: Why are you connecting to a broken SSL server with three users? :p

Bug#631591: [kde-config-gtk-style] Bingo :)

2011-06-25 Thread Lars Boegild Thomsen
Package: kde-config-gtk-style
Version: 2:0.5.3-1

Thanx Gilde,

Inspired by your comment I actually checked the environment. Without your
hack the variables was like this:

lth@nb6:~$ env|grep GTK
GTK2_RC_FILES=/etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:/home/lth/.gtkrc-2.0::/home/lth/.kde/share/config/gtkrc-2.0
GTK_RC_FILES=/etc/gtk/gtkrc:/home/lth/.gtkrc::/home/lth/.kde/share/config/gtkrc

So I just did a couple of simple symlinks:

lth@nb6:~$ ln -s .gtkrc-2.0-kde .gtkrc-2.0
lth@nb6:~$ ln -s .gtkrc-2.0-kde .gtkrc

Which did the trick for me. I actually haven't worked out yet where those
environment variables are set originally. I guess that's where this bug
belong.

Bug#631610: no longer compatible with web service API

2011-06-25 Thread Daniel Pocock
Package: libmusicbrainz3
Severity: important
Version: 3.0.2-2

The primary (and really only) purpose of the package libmusicbrainz3 is
to facilitate access to the MusicBrainz web based API for looking up data.

The MusicBrainz service offers three APIs:

- legacy RDF API (deprecated)

- original XML API (deprecated)
http://musicbrainz.org/doc/XML_Web_Service/Version_1

- XML Web Service v2
http://musicbrainz.org/doc/XML_Web_Service/Version_2

The package libmusicbrainz3 is based around the MusicBrainz original XML
API (version 1).

When v2 was released, v1 of the API was meant to continue working. In
practice, this isn't completely true. As an example, queries for albums
involving multiple discs are not returning the individual disc-level data.

Therefore, the package libmusicbrainz3 is no longer able to provide
reliable data for some queries.

- the package needs to be updated to use the new API (Version_2),
preferably with some effort to provide support in squeeze (even if it is
only through backports)

- the current package should probably not go out in wheezy at all - only
the new version should go in wheezy

- maybe the MusicBrainz service can be encouraged to fix the
backward-compatibility issues in the Version_1 web service

The maintainer of flactag (Andy Hawkins, CC) is developing an alternate
C++ library for the Version_2 XML API. It is already at the stage where
it is suitable for inclusion in unstable as a replacement for
libmusicbrainz3, preferably flactag can be included in unstable with it
so that people can evaluate the library.

The patch I submitted to OpenSUSE,

doesn't apply as it is to the latest Debian version; however,
the structure of the code is largely the same, so porting it over

I just applied a similar patch to Debian's version of at. It will be

Thanks for forwarding the bug and sorry for the rather long delay :)

Bug#631612: virtualbox-guest-x11: Buggy xserver-xorg-* in Provides

2011-06-25 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: virtualbox-guest-x11
Version: 4.0.8-dfsg-2
Severity: important

Hi,

currently, you have in debian/control:
| Package: virtualbox-guest-x11
| Section: x11
| Architecture: amd64 i386
| Depends: ${shlibs:Depends},
| ${misc:Depends},
| ${xserver:Depends},
| virtualbox-guest-utils (= ${binary:Version})
| Provides: ${xviddriver:Provides},
|   ${xinpdriver:Provides}

In debian/rules:
| ifeq ($(XORG_PKG_ABI),new)
| […]
| VIDDRIVER_PROVIDES = xserver-xorg-video-$(VIDEOABI)
| INPDRIVER_PROVIDES = xserver-xorg-input-$(INPUTABI)
| else
| […]

That's incorrect. VIDEOABI and INPUTABI are empty, since
/usr/share/xserver-xorg/{video,input}abiver are gone. Instead, you
should be providing unversioned xorg-driver-{video,input}.

So you're actually providing:
| Provides: xserver-xorg-input-, xserver-xorg-video-

which means that upon installation through d-i, virtualbox-guest-x11
gets installed, but installing xserver-xorg pulls both
xserver-xorg-video-all and xserver-xorg-input-all (since the alternative
dependencies on xorg-driver-video and xorg-driver-input are not
satisfied).

Mraw,
KiBi.

Bug#631613: enabling kgssapi and kgssapi_krb5

2011-06-25 Thread Robert Millan
Package: kfreebsd-image-8.2-1-amd64
Version: 8.2-3
Severity: wishlist

I don't know what kgssapi and kgssapi_krb5 modules are good for, but they've
been recently enabled in 9-CURRENT.

Unfortunately they fail to build on Debian (either 8.2 or 9~). For now it's
been disabled in kfreebsd-9 package. Error message:

*** Error code 1

Stop in /home/rmh/trunk/kfreebsd-8/flavor-8.2-1-amd64/sys/modules/kgssapi.

It'd help if someone could provide information on the convenience/necessity
of enabling these modules (in 8.x and in 9.x).

Bug#491456: It works without X server in headless mode

2011-06-25 Thread Hagen Kuehn
I run into the same issue and subsequently found this blog and went
through every single suggestion provided so far but was not able to
resolve it.

Though, I finally figured it out and share it here in case someone else
gets the same trouble.

In my case, I only wanted to use unoconv on my headless (no X Server)
Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) chroot.
It took me many many hours. Therefore the sequence of steps outlined
below does not reflect what I have gone through but it shows the
relevant bits.

#Installed unoconv
$sudo apt-get install unoconv

#Run unoconv
$unoconv -f pdf mytext.txt
javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!
Please ensure that a JVM and the package libreoffice-java-common
is installed.
If it is already installed then try removing
~/.libreoffice/3/user/config/javasettings_Linux_*.xml
Error: Unable to connect or start own listener. Aborting.

#I followed the suggestion and installed libreoffice-java-common and
openjdk-6-jre-headless.

#Run unoconv
$unoconv -f pdf mytext.txt

unoconv: UnoException during conversion: URL seems to be an unsupported
one.
The provided document cannot be converted to the desired format.

#Then I came across this debian bug 491456 discussion and followed the
suggestion to install
#libreoffice-writer libreoffice-calc libreoffice-impress

#Run unoconv
$unoconv -f pdf mytext.txt
Error: Unable to connect or start own listener. Aborting.

#Then I learned that (mentioned above in this thread) that the
LibreOffice process (soffice) needs to be running.
$ soffice
Failed to open display

#I didn't worry about this much and run the unoconv command again
$unoconv -f pdf mytext.txt
Error: Unable to connect or start own listener. Aborting.

#Eventually I figured out that the soffice process needs to be started
with the -headless and -nofirststartwizard parameters.
http://code.google.com/p/openmeetings/wiki/OpenOfficeConverter
Note: Make sure that you kill any previously started soffice
processes. To check this, run ps -l | grep soffice.

$/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice -headless -nofirststartwizard
-accept=socket,host=localhost,port=8100;urp;StarOffice.Service

#Run unoconv
$unoconv -f pdf mytext.txt

Now, it worked. It successfully converted mytext.txt to mytext.pdf.

Bug#631143: I'm afraid that dovecot-antispam is only useful for Debian stable and earlier

2011-06-25 Thread Manolo Díaz
Hi,

After reading the previous mail from Yuri, the bug report #625188 and
having seen the latest development tree in which does not appear the
file antispam-storage-2.0.c, I'm afraid dovecot-antispam is only useful
for Debian stable and earlier, that is, those having dovecot = 1.2.x

In addition, the development of dovecot-spam seems to have stopped on
March 12 (http://git.sipsolutions.net/?p=dovecot-antispam.git).

Bug#631161: kfreebsd-8: cve-2011-2480 info disclosure

2011-06-25 Thread Robert Millan
2011/6/21 Michael Gilbert michael.s.gilb...@gmail.com:
looking at the commit itself [0], i find Dan's conclusion rather
surprising. the affected code is in the 802.11 stack, so it seems like
it should be platform-independent.  i doubt x86 is any better at
handling signedness issues, but i suppose i could be missing something.

Fix uploaded to unstable and experimental.

debian-security: Patch is available in r3480 in glibc-bsd SVN (attached

When not applying it tahoe will lack the needed direct dependencies

Relying on it indirectly via foolscap is bad.

Right, applied in the git repo and added a credit mentioning you in the patch

Just added them, did it for the other packages but seems I forgot this

Bug#631163: tahoe-lafs: reduce twisted dependencies

2011-06-25 Thread Zooko O'Whielacronx
Hi there Julian and Bert:

Thank you for packaging Tahoe-LAFS! This note is mostly just for your
information--it doesn't necessarily mean that the current proposed
patch needs to be changed.

This situation is complicated by the fact that the packaging of
Twisted upstream has only a single package (Twisted) but the
packaging in Debian (and some other distributions) has several
packages (Twisted-Core, Twisted-Web, etc.).

(As an historical note, this started when the upstream Twisted project
broke itself up into multiple packages and Debian packaged them
separately. Then the upstream Twisted project abandoned that idea and
went back to a single monolithic package, but Debian did not follow
suit.)

Now there are three layers of dependency management that we have to
keep in mind in order to reduce twisted dependencies successfully.

First is, of course, the Debian layer -- the Depends: line in
debian/control. That one currently says that it depends on
python-twisted. This could (if the other two layers are also
changed) be reduced to depending on python-twisted-core,
python-twisted-web, and optionally python-twisted-conch. The
optional character of the dependency on python-twisted-conch is that
it is needed only if the user is going to run an SFTP server. (Note
that SFTP server plus sshfs is the way to have FUSE integration, which
many users want.) There are two other dependencies that are present
only for the SFTP server: PyCrypto and pyasn1.

Second layer of dependency management is the Python packaging system.
Tahoe-LAFS has a file of Python packaging metadata named
allmydata_tahoe.egg-info/requires.txt which contains a list of other
Python dependencies. This file is built automatically at build-time,
based on the contents of
http://tahoe-lafs.org/trac/tahoe-lafs/browser/trunk/src/allmydata/_auto_deps.py?annotate=blamerev=4976
.

This sort of .egg-info file is the standard Python way to express
dependencies in a machine-parseable format. There may be other tools
which parse that file for their own purposes, and certainly Tahoe-LAFS
itself does for the third layer of dependency management:

Third layer of dependency management is Tahoe-LAFS itself. At startup
time it asserts that the dependencies from the Python packaging
metadata are satisfied (using the pkg_resources tool) as well as
imports each Python module that it depends on and checks the
__version__ attribute of each module:
http://tahoe-lafs.org/trac/tahoe-lafs/browser/trunk/src/allmydata/__init__.py?annotate=blamerev=5042#L346
.

As far as upstream Tahoe-LAFS goes we cannot depend on the specific
Twisted sub-packages like Twisted-Web because they are not
distributed individually by upstream Twisted and therefore in many
installations there is no Twisted-Web.egg-info file for the
pkg_resources to use to determine that the dependency on Twisted-Web
is satisfied.

As far as upstream Tahoe-LAFS goes, we decided to have an
unconditional dependency on the SFTP-related packages: PyCrypto and
pyasn1, and would also have included an unconditional dependency on
Conch if it were not already bundled into the Twisted package. This is
because we don't want our users to have to manually install
dependencies.

Regards,

Zooko

it turns out that CVE-2010-1447 is still missing in Lenny and

The attached patch is still needed in both Lenny and Squeeze.

Thanks for pointing this out. I'll verify the patch and prepare packages;
do you want them uploaded to security-master ASAP?

Bug#349000: this is a very annoying regression

2011-06-25 Thread Yann Dirson
severity 349000 important
thanks

Sorry, but I don't think we should consider this as a wishlist. It
used to work just fine, and I'm getting endless complains at home
because once there are 2 displays open, noone can open a new session
through the new login button: a very visible feature has been broken.

It used to be so, that this dialog only appears when calling
gdmflexiserver from an open session. When it was called from
xscreensaver, a new login banner was created, and after login in a
check was done whether the user already had a display open.

Now, where does the change of behaviour comes from ?

I note that the 5.13-1 changelog says Remove obsolete gdmflexiserver
options. Without more details it is hard to say if this had an
influence, but it has at least the potential to. Could it be that
previously the --starnew option was passed, but that it is not passed
any more ?

Best regards,

Bug#631110: cvs: package description adjustment may help user

2011-06-25 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Osamu Aoki dixit:

If you happen to worry library dependency, it may help adding

I don’t think so, at least not yet. I couldn’t use the information.

Please remember SC#4 Our priorities are our users and free software.

At least you created an iffy user. I wonder what happened on all
security fixes done between upstream release of 2006 and last Debian
package before yours in 2008.

① I’m a user, too.
② I’ve closed about half of the open bugs in cvs, all but one of
the bugs reported in Launchpad, written new functionality, etc.
when I took over this package; if I created one or two new prob‐
lems, this is a small price to pay – especially since these can
  be addressed later (i.e. now).
③ I don’t think there were any security related fixes. I remember
looking through the patches applied to Debian’s cvs package and
porting them over to MirBSD, when needed; testing there; writing
documentation for these that were kept, and dropping these that
were buggy. If you really wonder I can dig out the relevant info
for you, but that doesn’t belong into this bugreport. Or you can
  take my word on it.
④ If you want to help… regarding point ②, most of the remaining bug
reports need to be forwarded upstream (either can’t do in Debian
what they want, or won’t do the decision to deviate from upstream)
or closed (as done, unreproducible, etc). But I personally think
  http://qa.debian.org/data/bts/graphs/c/cvs.png shows a good trend.

Hello,

No, there is no specific reason against. I just felt it was not worth
the effort, gcrypt library transitions have always been totally
painless.

Bug#631567: [linux-source-2.6.39] Recompiled kernel crash on kms with radeon HD6670

2011-06-25 Thread Francesco Muzio

I have tried to set CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=y (I think you're referring to
this being also mentioned CONFIG_FIRMWARE_IN_KERNEL) configured
CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE and the path correctly but the kernel hangs again

Hence I'm back to the previous configuration with CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=m
for do other test:

I have also tried to set CONFIG_AGP=y and CONFIG_AGP_AMD64=y without success

But if I set CONFIG_AGP=y, CONFIG_AGP_AMD64=y and CONFIG_AGP_ATI=y the
kernel boot and seems to work all. I managed to boot 3 times of 3 with
success.

It is strange because:
- radeon HD6670 is a PCI-Express card
- I have also a radeon chip integrated on the motherboard (ASUS M4A89GTD
PRO) but is disabled from AMI BIOS and obviously a lspci | grep VGA
does not find it

natty/main i386 Packages
winexe | 1.00-0ppa9~natty | http://ppa.launchpad.net/jdthood/winexe/ubuntu/
natty/main Sources

The winexe program included in these packages was tested on
Debian squeeze and seems to work fine.

I hope to release new versions of the package soon with,
to start with, a proper man page. Help with improving the
package will be welcome.

Probably not a good idea, I don't know the exact format of that file,
but number and position of lines seems to be important.

Why it happens ? An problem in 0.0.1 ?

A small rename in the slave alternative names between 0.0.1 and 0,1
triggered a bug in dpkg.

On the other hand linux-image-2.6.32-5-686-bigmem used 1600x1200 just fine.
My hardware is recognized by the X11 nouveau driver as NV44 (note that
I don't actually use the X11 nouveau driver, but the fbdev instead because
the X11 nouveau driver ends up deciding it can't find any display, but that's
a separate problem that appears both with 2.6.32 and 2.6.39).

I include the nouveaudrm part of the dmesg output in both the 2.6.32
 and 2.6.39 cases.

Please report this at

Attach dmesg with drm.debug=6 (from both kernels).

Bug#631620: bluez: Logitech keyboard problem is back in 4.94-2

2011-06-25 Thread Mark Fletcher
Package: bluez
Version: 4.94-2
Severity: important

Just upgraded bluez to 4.94-2 as it came into testing sometime this week,
and my Logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo (MX5500) stopped working
again. I have rolled back to a known working version (4.66-3). I know there
was an upgrade since 4.66-3 that was OK but I don't remember the version
number. Rolling bluez only back to 4.66-3 fixes the problem.

Please look into this guys, because wireless keyboard users like me really
get hit hard when this keeps breaking. Please let me know if there's any
more info I can provide that will help. I'm not sure what logs etc would be
relevant. Fortunately I'm not as messed up by
this this time as I learned the hard way how to find an old working version
and roll back the last time this happened.

What can we as a community do to help prevent the continuing recurrence of
issues with Logitech keyboards? Is there something we can pressure the vendor
to be more forthcoming on? Or testing of proposed upgrades we can
participate in (I'm neither super technical nor awash with spare time, but
I'm willing to help as much as I can if it will mean I can upgrade bluez
without cringing in the future... :-) )

The file opera.list was only readable for user root (-rw---). Making it
readable for all did solve the problem.

So IMHO reportbug-ng should check the accessability of the file and either
report it in a more userfriendly way, or if the information is optional, just
print a warning and continue without this file.

Greetings,
Gert

Bug#631624: [libelfg0] Elf in extended description

2011-06-25 Thread Filipus Klutiero

Package: libelfg0
Version: 0.8.13-2
Severity: minor

The extended description starts with:

The elf library provides routines to access, and manipulate, Elf object
files.

ELF is an acronym. In Elf object files, Elf should be completely
uppercase.

BTW, there is no need for commas in that sentence.

Bug#631626: [xmoto] Xorg crashes on quitting xmoto

2011-06-25 Thread Gert Brinkmann
Package: xmoto
Version: 0.5.2-2+b1
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Running xmoto does work fine. But when choosing Quit in the game the whole X-
Server does crash and you get back to the display manager (here kdm). In the
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old file I have found:

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for mcabber (versioned as 0.10.1-1.1) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/5. Please feel free to tell me if I
should delay it longer.

Cheers

Luk

Bug#631627: gcc-defaults version 4:4.4.5-1 non-functional on Wheezy (missing libgcc_s.so)

2011-06-25 Thread Philip Ashmore
Package: gcc
Version: 4:4.6.0-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Here's a simple test program EOF
int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
return 0;
}
EOF
$ gcc -o main main.c
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgcc_s
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

The versions of gcc/c++ in testing (4:4.6.0-5), work fine, and I would use them
if it were not for g++-4.6.0-10 miscompilation

There is a new upstream version available:

Thanks for the reminder. I have 2.0.1 packaged, but need to figure out
why I keep getting QFSFileEngine::open: No file name specified when
trying to play audio with it. Once I get it working, I'll upload :)

Kind regards,
Ryan
