Bug#631567: [linux-source-2.6.39] Recompiled kernel crash on kms with radeon HD6670

The radeon card is a HD6670 (chip TURKS) Does it work if you set CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=m, or build the appropriate firmware into the kernel? Does it work if you set CONFIG_AGP=y and CONFIG_AGP_AMD64=y? What do you think of adding /usr/share/bug/cvs/presubj file with something along --- pserver functionality is disabled intentionally by the maintainer due to its security implication. Even wishlist bug reports are not accepted. --- If you happen to worry library dependency, it may help adding /usr/share/bug/cvs/script file with something along --- #!/bin/sh /usr/bin/ldd /usr/bin/cvs 13 --- You can find many examples on your Debian system under /usr/share/bug/. Please note I am not asking to do these. Just FYI. One packaging FEATURE I did not agree was removal of old Debian changelog entries. There was never a removal, because these were never part of this cvs packaging. I mentioned I would completely replace the old packaging before I tool over cvs. This is from your perspective. I see no policy on this matter. I am not in position to request you to change this based on the policy. Please remember SC#4 Our priorities are our users and free software. At least you created an iffy user. I wonder what happened on all security fixes done between upstream release of 2006 and last Debian package before yours in 2008. This is completly off-topic from the original bug. Let's discuss separately later with cooler head. As for epoch, the Policy 5.6.12 Version states: | It is provided to allow mistakes in the version numbers of older Yes, there was a mistake along the way, and the epoch was raised from 1 to 2 by me. Blame me for that, but it cannot be undone now. Thus, this epoch should not be used lightly. *cough* http://debblog.philkern.de/2011/06/about-versions.html Certainly, these are abuse. Sigh... inside. If you kept old changelog, it is clear this was done in 2006 by Steve McIntyre. Support for bz2 was added to dpkg 1.10.24 in 2004 and bzip2 is a joke, redundant with xz, and re-compressing already-compressed files does not gain us anything. Furthermore, using tarball-in-tarball packaging was deprecared in 2009 or so. I got told off for that myself, and the “new” cvs package provides the source that’s used for compiling on dpkg-source -x, as many people wanted. So I would have needed to change the .orig.tar.gz already, anyway. Besides, the +real will go away with cvs 1.12.14 release. Good to hear your intent but GNU upstream seems to be very quiet. Let's hope someday, we see cvs 1.12.14 release. (FYI: Your assertion of bzip2 is a joke was surprise to me. If you said lzma, it made sense to me. Anyway, both lzma and xz suffix are still too new if you think of supporting backports in Debian and Ubuntu. But here, I think you are making judgement as the maintainer and I am happy with you holding this position.) I did not experiment or tested, but most likely, since dpkg-scanpackage put priority to package.bz2 over package.gz, you could have used and uploaded real 1.12.13.orig.tar.bz2 while building package with dpkg-buildpackage option -sa. No. That’s what I tried first. Since there was already a .orig file in the archive, the upload got rejected. https://www.mirbsd.org/cvs.cgi/contrib/hosted/tg/deb/cvs/debian/changelog.diff?r1=1.14;r2=1.15 https://www.mirbsd.org/cvs.cgi/contrib/hosted/tg/deb/cvs/debian/changelog#rev1.15 You tried package.gz and it did not work. I am talking package.bz2. Anyway, it is history now. Let's move on. While I like cvs being used, and useful feedback, I do not like to be told how to make my package. If you wanted to have changed the cvs package, there were months in which you could have

Package: ncurses Version: 5.9-1 Severity: important ncurses should be configured with --with-termlib so that packages which do not rely on the symbols exported by ncurses/ncursesw, but only on symbols found in libtermlib. Not having a libtermlib would need proliferation of non-wide/wide library builds for every library depending on ncurses/ncursesw. The first library needing this is libreadline. Bug#487397: markdown code block doesn't generate html entities
On 2011-06-24T23:42:31-0700, Kenyon Ralph ken...@kenyonralph.com wrote: Package: ikiwiki Version: 3.20100815.7 Severity: normal If I put XML in a markdown code block like this, merge key=input.x11_driver type=stringkbd/merge then all that appears in the ikiwiki-generated HTML is kbd. If I manually convert the angle brackets to HTML entities, then the whole line appears in the generated HTML, but it's not surrounded by code tags. The same line generates correct HTML inside markdown backticks. Is this the same bug as what's reported here and at http://ikiwiki.info/bugs/wiki_links_still_processed_inside_code_blocks/? Actually, it looks like the problem with the code block only happens when the code block comes immediately after a bulleted list. So maybe this is a different bug. -- Kenyon Ralph signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#624016: 100% CPU usage
On Tue, 26 Apr 2011 11:44:15 +0200 Chris Laberti chrislabe...@gmail.com wrote: I have just installed a clean Wheezy and tried qbittorrent there (the provided v2.4.11) and it runs fine here (CPU usage is normal). I think I understood what the problem is: a.) 2.2.11 (using 0.14) works when you erase the user folder b.) 2.4.11 (using 0.14) also works when you erase the user folder c.) When you are downloading torrents and decide to upgrade from 2.2.11 to 2.4.11 and do not erase the user folder, then that is when the 100% CPU problem happens. (At upgrade there is a message that warns the user that a backup is being made just in case the user decides to downgrade because files are handles differently in the new version.) Therefore, it seems that 2.4.11 cannot correctly handle a 2.2.11 user folder. I think the reverse is also true: 2.2.11 cannot correctly handle a 2.4.11 user folder. Also, just by clicking on some torrents on the list, the application crashes. Therefore, the solution I found is to simply erase the user folder but of course you have to re-download the ones you were downloading before. Please note that the 100% CPU issue may not happen immediately, it may take a few minutes/hours. This might be caused by a specific torrent or tracker (I remember there used to be a libtorrent bug that would cause high cpu usage with some strange tracker URLs). I use thepiratebay.org's torrent files. Hi, closing this bug report as you managed to fix the problem yourself. BTW, qBittorrent in wheezy works fine, so the problem was either user config folder or some problematic .torrent file. Bug#631592: ncurses should provide a termlib library
On Sat, 25 Jun 2011, Matthias Klose wrote: Package: ncurses Version: 5.9-1 Severity: important ncurses should be configured with --with-termlib so that packages which do not rely on the symbols exported by ncurses/ncursesw, but only on symbols found in libtermlib. Not having a libtermlib would need proliferation of non-wide/wide library builds for every library depending on ncurses/ncursesw. The first library needing this is libreadline. See http://bugs.debian.org/602720 for the initial report and the discussion with the upstream author. Building libtermlib seems to be the standard way to build ncurses for other distributions. Clarification: a) the library itself is normally named libtinfo. b) the configure script option is named --with-termlib. Some other implementations for instance install symbolic links equating libtermcap, libterm and libcurses (looking at Solaris). Rather than use those names, I chose one that didn't conflict with existing usage. (In retrospect, it might also have been a Good Idea to add a symlink for libtinfo in the normal --without-termlib build, but again, that can conflict one way or another...) -- Thomas E. Bug#560258: against closing
Your logic kills me :(. Reasons agains closing: 1) 'apt-get source' and 'apt-get install' SHOULD be synchronized at least because they are subcommand of SAME command 2) Linux is open-source system. In particular it means that user MIGHT at any moment be able to install his own edition of any package. 3) Procedure for punt 2 is common for all packages (at least in DEbian distro, in other distros maybe other common story, dont't mind) via 'configure-make-make install' and shouldn't be depend neither on linux distro nor package itself 4) Distro developer should ensure punt 3 via edition all preconfiguring scripts according to distro itself. In our case you can in configure script create that temp deb package that supposed to created now in your 'inconsistent' way. Besides i just wonder what interest deb could support that inconsistent with any script that i can edit in Makefile? -- Kind regards, Sergey Ivanov -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#601529: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the adjtimex package
Dear maintainer of adjtimex and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the adjtimex Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es eu fi fr gl it ja nb nl pl pt pt_BR ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: pl If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the adjtimex package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Sunday, July 03, 2011. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Monday, June 20, 2011 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Saturday, June 25, 2011 : send this notice Sunday, July 03, 2011 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Monday, July 04, 2011 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Monday, July 11, 2011 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR EMAIL@ADDRESS, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: adjti...@packages.debian.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2009-03-17 07:38+0100\n PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n Last-Translator: FULL NAME EMAIL@ADDRESS\n Language-Team: LANGUAGE l...@li.org\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. So does xfce4-notifyd. The problem is that this package does not work in xfce4. So there is no way to get any on-screen notifications in xfce4 if you also have kde installed. I don't get it. You *want* plasma-widgets-workspace under Xfce (I don't really think it would work, but maybe) or you just want notifications? I want to install both kde and xfce on my system and have notifications working in both. With the latest updates to kde in sid, updating kde forces me to uninstall xfce4-notifyd. And since plasma-widgets-workspace does not work under xfce, I get no notifications in xfce. This did not happen with earlier versions of kde in sid. It started with the update to kde 4.6.4. Prior to that I had both DE's installed with no problems. So on the surface this would appear to be a kde problem, which is why I originally filed the bug there. I did try to re-install xfce4-notifyd after updating kde. But apt wants to un-install important parts of kde, such as plasma-desktop, so that's not a solution. It is not surprising though since plasma-widgets-workspace is a dependency of plasma-desktop. plasma-widgets-workspace provides the interfaces as specified by the so-called 'galago-spec', so I don't see anything wrong with having plasma-widgets- workspace provide it. On the other hand, having xfce4-notifyd conflict with it is something else ... Afair there's an issue with having multiple notification daemons installed at once since they ship the same dbus service file. It might have changed though, I'll try to look at this Apparently there is an issue now, anyway. Thanks for looking into it. Bug#631610: no longer compatible with web service API
Package: libmusicbrainz3 Severity: important Version: 3.0.2-2 The primary (and really only) purpose of the package libmusicbrainz3 is to facilitate access to the MusicBrainz web based API for looking up data. The MusicBrainz service offers three APIs: - legacy RDF API (deprecated) - original XML API (deprecated) http://musicbrainz.org/doc/XML_Web_Service/Version_1 - XML Web Service v2 http://musicbrainz.org/doc/XML_Web_Service/Version_2 The package libmusicbrainz3 is based around the MusicBrainz original XML API (version 1). When v2 was released, v1 of the API was meant to continue working. In practice, this isn't completely true. As an example, queries for albums involving multiple discs are not returning the individual disc-level data. Therefore, the package libmusicbrainz3 is no longer able to provide reliable data for some queries. - the package needs to be updated to use the new API (Version_2), preferably with some effort to provide support in squeeze (even if it is only through backports) - the current package should probably not go out in wheezy at all - only the new version should go in wheezy - maybe the MusicBrainz service can be encouraged to fix the backward-compatibility issues in the Version_1 web service The maintainer of flactag (Andy Hawkins, CC) is developing an alternate C++ library for the Version_2 XML API. It is already at the stage where it is suitable for inclusion in unstable as a replacement for libmusicbrainz3, preferably flactag can be included in unstable with it so that people can evaluate the library. http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.audio.musicbrainz.devel/4303 http://software.gently.org.uk/flactag-1.1/ http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=507876 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#631163: tahoe-lafs: reduce twisted dependencies
Hi there Julian and Bert: Thank you for packaging Tahoe-LAFS! This note is mostly just for your information--it doesn't necessarily mean that the current proposed patch needs to be changed. This situation is complicated by the fact that the packaging of Twisted upstream has only a single package (Twisted) but the packaging in Debian (and some other distributions) has several packages (Twisted-Core, Twisted-Web, etc.). (As an historical note, this started when the upstream Twisted project broke itself up into multiple packages and Debian packaged them separately. Then the upstream Twisted project abandoned that idea and went back to a single monolithic package, but Debian did not follow suit.) Now there are three layers of dependency management that we have to keep in mind in order to reduce twisted dependencies successfully. First is, of course, the Debian layer -- the Depends: line in debian/control. That one currently says that it depends on python-twisted. This could (if the other two layers are also changed) be reduced to depending on python-twisted-core, python-twisted-web, and optionally python-twisted-conch. The optional character of the dependency on python-twisted-conch is that it is needed only if the user is going to run an SFTP server. (Note that SFTP server plus sshfs is the way to have FUSE integration, which many users want.) There are two other dependencies that are present only for the SFTP server: PyCrypto and pyasn1. Second layer of dependency management is the Python packaging system. Tahoe-LAFS has a file of Python packaging metadata named allmydata_tahoe.egg-info/requires.txt which contains a list of other Python dependencies. This file is built automatically at build-time, based on the contents of http://tahoe-lafs.org/trac/tahoe-lafs/browser/trunk/src/allmydata/_auto_deps.py?annotate=blamerev=4976 . This sort of .egg-info file is the standard Python way to express dependencies in a machine-parseable format. There may be other tools which parse that file for their own purposes, and certainly Tahoe-LAFS itself does for the third layer of dependency management: Third layer of dependency management is Tahoe-LAFS itself. At startup time it asserts that the dependencies from the Python packaging metadata are satisfied (using the pkg_resources tool) as well as imports each Python module that it depends on and checks the __version__ attribute of each module: http://tahoe-lafs.org/trac/tahoe-lafs/browser/trunk/src/allmydata/__init__.py?annotate=blamerev=5042#L346 . As far as upstream Tahoe-LAFS goes we cannot depend on the specific Twisted sub-packages like Twisted-Web because they are not distributed individually by upstream Twisted and therefore in many installations there is no Twisted-Web.egg-info file for the pkg_resources to use to determine that the dependency on Twisted-Web is satisfied. As far as upstream Tahoe-LAFS goes, we decided to have an unconditional dependency on the SFTP-related packages: PyCrypto and pyasn1, and would also have included an unconditional dependency on Conch if it were not already bundled into the Twisted package. This is because we don't want our users to have to manually install dependencies. Regards, Zooko -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#349000: this is a very annoying regression
severity 349000 important thanks Sorry, but I don't think we should consider this as a wishlist. It used to work just fine, and I'm getting endless complains at home because once there are 2 displays open, noone can open a new session through the new login button: a very visible feature has been broken. It used to be so, that this dialog only appears when calling gdmflexiserver from an open session. When it was called from xscreensaver, a new login banner was created, and after login in a check was done whether the user already had a display open. Now, where does the change of behaviour comes from ? I note that the 5.13-1 changelog says Remove obsolete gdmflexiserver options. Without more details it is hard to say if this had an influence, but it has at least the potential to. Could it be that previously the --starnew option was passed, but that it is not passed any more ? Bug#631110: cvs: package description adjustment may help user
Osamu Aoki dixit: If you happen to worry library dependency, it may help adding I don’t think so, at least not yet. I couldn’t use the information. Please remember SC#4 Our priorities are our users and free software. At least you created an iffy user. I wonder what happened on all security fixes done between upstream release of 2006 and last Debian package before yours in 2008. ① I’m a user, too. ② I’ve closed about half of the open bugs in cvs, all but one of the bugs reported in Launchpad, written new functionality, etc. when I took over this package; if I created one or two new prob‐ lems, this is a small price to pay – especially since these can be addressed later (i.e. now). ③ I don’t think there were any security related fixes. I remember looking through the patches applied to Debian’s cvs package and porting them over to MirBSD, when needed; testing there; writing documentation for these that were kept, and dropping these that were buggy. If you really wonder I can dig out the relevant info for you, but that doesn’t belong into this bugreport. Or you can take my word on it. ④ If you want to help… regarding point ②, most of the remaining bug reports need to be forwarded upstream (either can’t do in Debian what they want, or won’t do the decision to deviate from upstream) or closed (as done, unreproducible, etc). But I personally think http://qa.debian.org/data/bts/graphs/c/cvs.png shows a good trend. bye, //mirabilos -- Support mksh as /bin/sh and RoQA dash NOW! ‣ src:bash (256 (275) bugs: 0 RC, 177 (192) IN, 79 (83) MW, 0 FP) ‣ src:dash (81 (89) bugs: 3 RC, 43 (46) IN, 35 (40) MW, 0 FP) ‣ src:mksh (2 bugs: 0 RC, 0 IN, 2 MW, 0 FP) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#631582: nouveau: 2.6.39-2 does not use my monitor's native resolution

On the other hand linux-image-2.6.32-5-686-bigmem used 1600x1200 just fine. My hardware is recognized by the X11 nouveau driver as NV44 (note that I don't actually use the X11 nouveau driver, but the fbdev instead because the X11 nouveau driver ends up deciding it can't find any display, but that's a separate problem that appears both with 2.6.32 and 2.6.39). Bug#631620: bluez: Logitech keyboard problem is back in 4.94-2
Package: bluez Version: 4.94-2 Severity: important Just upgraded bluez to 4.94-2 as it came into testing sometime this week, and my Logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo (MX5500) stopped working again. I have rolled back to a known working version (4.66-3). I know there was an upgrade since 4.66-3 that was OK but I don't remember the version number. Rolling bluez only back to 4.66-3 fixes the problem. Please look into this guys, because wireless keyboard users like me really get hit hard when this keeps breaking. Please let me know if there's any more info I can provide that will help. I'm not sure what logs etc would be relevant. Fortunately I'm not as messed up by this this time as I learned the hard way how to find an old working version and roll back the last time this happened. What can we as a community do to help prevent the continuing recurrence of issues with Logitech keyboards? Is there something we can pressure the vendor to be more forthcoming on? Or testing of proposed upgrades we can participate in (I'm neither super technical nor awash with spare time, but I'm willing to help as much as I can if it will mean I can upgrade bluez without cringing in the future... :-) ) -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.39-2-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ja_JP.EUC-JP, LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.EUC-JP (charmap=EUC-JP) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages bluez depends on: ii dbus 1.4.12-2simple interprocess messaging syst ii libbluetooth34.94-2 Library to use the BlueZ Linux Blu ii libc62.13-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcap-ng0 0.6.5-1+b1 An alternate POSIX capabilities li ii libdbus-1-3 1.4.12-2simple interprocess messaging syst ii libglib2.0-0 2.28.6-1The GLib library of C routines ii libnl1 1.1-6 library for dealing with netlink s ii libusb-0.1-4 2:0.1.12-17 userspace USB programming library ii lsb-base 3.2-27 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii module-init-tools3.16-1 tools for managing Linux kernel mo ii udev 171-1 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo bluez recommends no packages.
