Bug#639226: kexec-tools: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2011-08-25 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: kexec-tools
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Sunday, August 07, 2011, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for kexec-tools.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading kexec-tools with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Sunday, August 28, 2011, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Sunday, September 18, 2011. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed
or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Monday, September 19, 2011, I will contact you again and will send a
final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#627705: Broadcom Ethernet adapters (tg3 broadcom drivers)

2011-08-25 Thread Mike Hore

Hi Ben et al,

For the record, new 21.5 iMacs use Broadcom 57765, which is on your
list as not supported. So this appears to be a serious problem for
installing on these machines (which will be numerous!)

Cheers, Mike.

Bug#638839: multiarchize hal: wrong patch..

thanks for the patch. I have to acknowledge that I no longer actively use hal

So I'm wondering, if there is a benefit of converting hal to multiarch.

Good question. I picked up hal from the ia32libs package, as one of the goals of
multiarch is to get rid of ia32libs. If hal is vanishing anyways, then this
patch can be ignored.

Have you tested hal that it still works correctly?

nope :) Only that libraries are now installed to the right place and that
dynamic
linker still picks them up as expected.

2011-08-25 Thread Jan Prunk
Hello !

I upgraded to 3.0.0-2 from sid and the sound crunching error seems to have
dissapeared.

Thank you for providing the solution.

 Yep, sorry about that.

Hm, there have been a few Realtek fixes upstream recently, one of which
 is in 3.0.0-2[1]:

Copying hp_pins and speaker_pins from line_out_pins may confuse the
parser, and it can lead to duplicated initializations for the same
 pin
with a wrong DAC assignment.  The problem appears in 3.0 kernel
 code.

            Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman gre...@suse.de

So if you get a chance to test 3.0.0-2 from sid or a newer upstream
version[2] and report back then that would be helpful.  If that
doesn't work, please report this upstream at
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/ and let us know the bug
number so we can track it.

 Thanks for the quick feedback.

Bug#637234: linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae: I/O errors using ext4 under xen

2011-08-25 Thread Ian Campbell
Hi Konrad,

Does this look at all familiar? There is some more info in the full bug
log at http://bugs.debian.org/637234 . In particular, contrary to the
message below, the user subsequently confirmed that the issue appears to
be Xen specific (doesn't happen on native or vmware) and that it arose
between 2.6.39-2-686-pae and 3.0.0-1-686-pae.

Could it be related to edf6ef59ec7e xen-blkfront: Introduce
BLKIF_OP_FLUSH_DISKCACHE support? That looks like the only pertinent
change between 2.6.39 and 3.0.

Gedalya, 2.6.39-2-686-pae could be anything from v2.6.39..v2.6.39.2
please could you confirm which package version you have installed in
case it makes a difference.

Cheers,
Ian.

 Hello,

I have a xen host running debian squeeze, amd64, some of the DomU's are
running wheezy. My mail server is a DomU called mail, using ext4 for the
root (and other) FS. A dist-upgrade on mail has upgraded the kernel to
linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae, and at this point I started getting I/O errors
during the boot process, as follows:

 ---
Starting MySQL database server: mysqld[6.453894] end_request: I/O error,

So I went ahead and installed wheezy on a brand new DomU, and this
was repeated immediately when booting the machine after the installation
 completed.

 ---

Now, it happenes this way exactly every _other_ time the machines boot.
When I reboot after these I/O errors, fsck is run and then the machine
seems to be actually fine until the next reboot when it all happens
 again.

For me, this is happening on xen DomU's, only when running linux
3.0.0-1-686-pae, only when using ext4 for the root FS.
No problems when booting back to 2.6.39-2-686-pae.

Please let me know what more specific testing needs to be done, if
necessary I can test more platforms / flavors.

I have observed nothing to suggest this is related to xen, it's just my
 platform here.

Unfortunately not. This server crashes often, but I do not have any
method to let it crashes. The worst case is when it crashes just after
reboot, the opposite was after a month from reboot.

But, I may use a different kernel and let the server goes until crashes:
no problem in rebooting it for kernel update.

And yes, it is a 32bit debian squeeze system on a 64 bit Athlon cpu.

Bug#639230: [php5] README.Debian.security: unclear reference to unserialize() risk

2011-08-25 Thread Filipus Klutiero

Package: php5
Version: 5.3.8-1
Severity: minor

README.Debian.security contains:

Most specifically, the security team will not provide
support for flaws in:

- problems which are not flaws in the design of php but can be problematic
when used by sloppy developers (for example: not checking the contents
of a tar file before extracting it, using unserialize() on
untrusted data, or relying on a specific value of short_open_tag).

It is unclear to me how using unserialize() on untrusted data would
create a particular risk. Do you perhaps mean extract()?

The only hypervisor package installed is xen-hypervisor-4.0-i386. I was
not aware that it would be possible to use the amd64 version when
running a 32bit kernel dom0. If you suggest it, I may switch to the

Bug#639110: [pkg-wine-party] Bug#639110: Wine doesn't let command-line scripts capture Ctrl+C

I think they're talking about the wineconsole tool there, rather than the

I'd like to use wineconsole, but it doesn't have a bare mode, just curses
and user, which are inappropriate for my use (I want to make simple Linux
command-line tools that make use of DLL features via Wine, so bare mode is
the most appropriate, I don't want to completely change the console mode, or
require an X server).

Basically I'd like for either:

1. The wineconsole command to get a bare mode (and carry the ctrl+C support
over to that mode), or:

2. The wine command to get proper Ctrl+C support.

David.

Bug#610685: offlineimap: exceptions inside some folder avoid sync of msgs after it in that folder.

2011-08-25 Thread logs
Package: offlineimap
Version: 6.3.4-1
Severity: normal

Sorry about previous msg, I found that for the previous error

I just had to look inside folder Babel for a file with U=744, i.e.

$ ls -la Mail/Babel/*/*744*
...
Mail/Babel/cur/1313583398_1.11901.chiquitin,U=744,FMD5=53718118d84d26983528d262b37ea0be:2,RS
...

and remove it (after checking I do not care about it).

What I wanted to highlight now is that no email in folder Babel after this one
has
been synced because of the exception. I'm running it again now and I have:

Could you change the behavior when an exception is launched so
only the affected email is ignored?

Thanks.

This is definitly not a bug in util-linux. This rather means that
  co:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty hvc0 9600 linux
the command /sbin/getty hvc0 9600 linux fails to be executed
 properly.

Depending on the kernel you are using, this might be an Debian issue
or not. Also, it's quite probably not release critical.

hvc0 seems to be an xen-specific perhaps, so it would be relevant
where you got your kernel from (self-built? debian?), which package
version you are using, did it work before, etc.

I reproduced this problem today with a fresh install. I've installed the
latest daily build of d-i from today. What I did was:

  * booted the installer with a netinst image from today
  * installed the base system
  * in tasksel, selected the Laptop task + standard Debian tools

After rebooting my /etc/inittab ended up with that line:

  co:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty hvc0 9600 linux

And syslog has one of those warning messages every few minutes (although
this is annoying, it's not a serious bug since it does not really break
anything).

This line is the only difference between the fresh inittab provided by
sysvinit and the /etc/inittab my system ended up with. It looks like
that line was added by something in the installation, but I could not
identify exactly what. Among the installed packages, only sysvinit
mentions inittab in its {post, pre}inst script.

Umm, not sure why that one is not failing, anyway seems upstream has a
fix proposal, which is this patch:
  http://www.colino.net/claws-mail/getpatchset.php?ver=3.7.9cvs50

Would be interesting that you could add the patch to claws-mail source
package and rebuild it, then install it and see if it fixes the issue on
your failing account (and also that doesn't break the working one! :)

Otherwise you can wait until next release upload, which won't happen
before next week (upstream release is planned for August 27th).

Bug#639106: libv4l-0: object '/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded

2011-08-25 Thread Gregor Jasny

Hello Andreas,

I guess some time ago you wrote a shell script which triggers the
preloading and saved it as /usr/local/bin/skype. This script uses the
old lib path:

andreas 1187 [...] /bin/bash /usr/local/bin/skype
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
andreas 1188 [...] /usr/bin/skype LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so

which skype points to /usr/local/bin/skype, right?

If you update /usr/local/bin/skype everything should work as expected.

Thanks,

I don't think it used to do that. It might have been introduced when
the unified init script was added and debhelper automatically added
its bits to prerm and postinst. Check please.

I was also surprised when I noticed that. I would have sworn it
didn't, including the assumption that upgrading postgresql-common was
safe on production systems. It would really be nice if that were true.

Bug#639231: libv4l-0: mirrored webcam image on ASUS K70IJ notebook

2011-08-25 Thread Gregor Jasny

Hello Andreas,

libv4l already knows about two K70IJ models:

http://git.linuxtv.org/v4l-utils.git/blob/HEAD:/lib/libv4lconvert/control/libv4lcontrol.c

{ 0x064e, 0xa116, 0, ASUSTeK Computer Inc., K70IJ ,
 354 V4LCONTROL_HFLIPPED | V4LCONTROL_VFLIPPED },
{ 0x04f2, 0xb071, 0, ASUSTeK Computer Inc., K70IJ ,
 179 V4LCONTROL_HFLIPPED | V4LCONTROL_VFLIPPED },

To create another entry for the table I'd need the exact content of the
following DMI entries (including whitespaces) and the camera USB-ID:

echo _$(cat /sys/class/dmi/id/board_vendor)_
echo _$(cat /sys/class/dmi/id/board_name)_
echo _$(cat /sys/class/dmi/id/board_version)_
lsusb

To find the correct flipping mode you need to try combinations of the
following flags:

http://git.linuxtv.org/v4l-utils.git/blob/HEAD:/lib/libv4lconvert/control/libv4lcontrol.h
#define V4LCONTROL_HFLIPPED  0x01
#define V4LCONTROL_VFLIPPED  0x02
#define V4LCONTROL_ROTATED_90_JPEG   0x04

You can simulate the flip-table entries by exporting
LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS. Please try the following combinations and report
which one works for you. (In case Skype gives no output with
LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS defined, please use cheese. With cheese you don't
need to preload any libs because gstreamer already uses libv4l directly
[you can see it by cat /proc/12345/maps |grep v4l])

export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=0 # none
export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=1 # H
export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=2 # V
export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=3 # H + V

Thanks,
Gregor

sufficient because umount will be there anyway and the dependency will make
sure fuse is enabled. Right?

Bug#639234: libatdgen-ocaml-dev: Parsing bugs when whitespace precedes JSON values (ie, pretty-printed JSON)

2011-08-25 Thread Rob Moss
Package: libatdgen-ocaml-dev
Version: 1.2.0-1
Severity: important
Tags: upstream

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Several parsing bugs have been fixed upstream (see the commits on 2011-08-09
and 2011-08-10 at https://github.com/MyLifeLabs/atdgen). Without these fixes,
serialised ATD values can only be read from compact JSON files and not from
pretty-printed JSON files.

Bug#561891: Bug 561891: Is FTBFS for fio on SuperH (sh4) resolved?

2011-08-25 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Hi!

  So is this issue resolved?

If not, please offer help. There is a partial patch mentioned earlier
  in the bug report.

By this method, we cannot support both SH4 and SH4A. When we build
with machine of SH4A, a binary to work only in SH4A is built.
Because Debian SH team are supporting sh4 and sh4a in one binary, this
 becomes the problem.
And this is a problem peculiar to Debian. It will not become the
problem in other distribution. (e.g., Gentoo)
It is necessary to check whether you do not do it whether we support
synco when we support both CPU's when we execute *_barrier.
I think that this has a big overhead.

 I attached quick hack patch.

Jens, what do you think about such a patch? Please advice.

Nobuhiro, where do you think comes the big overhead from? In your patch
you check once at beginning for sinco capability. Do you refer to the if
statement you added in arch/arch-sh.h?

Ciao,

56. listed03.at:22: 56. incremental dump when the parent directory is
unreadable (listed03.at:22): FAILED (listed03.at:25)

The tar tries to use getcwd, but in the pathname the parent dir is unreadable.

According to
http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/9699919799/functions/getcwd.html

If a program is operating in a directory where some (grand)parent
directory does not permit reading, getcwd() may fail, as in most
implementations it must read the directory to determine the name of the
  file.

The implementation of getcwd under GNU/kFreeBSD uses a kernel cache,
and eventually tries to get it by traversing.
Usually kernel cache succeeds in natively mounted dirs,
and fails in bind/nullfs mounted dir.

Thanks for your suggestion. This feature request is already present in

hours ago (src:xorg needed to reached testing before it could be
backported, hence the delay compared to mesa, xorg-server, and drivers).

Right; have upgraded to the latest X.org and kernel in backports and the
problem still persists. Something causes the machine to hang while
bieng used interactively in X and after this loading the kernel psmouse
  module hangs the machine.

  What should I try next?

Can you try if the hangs in X happen when the psmouse module is never
 loaded in the first place?

So I've tried the following:

1. Boot from a Debian 4.0 install CD to clear the non-volatile fault.

2. Boot from a Debian 6.0 install CD to blacklist psmouse without
loading it.

3. Reboot the system and let X start.

4. Log in via SSH and run four separate loops, each of which starts a
set of programs, sleeps for a prime amount of time, kills them and sleep
for another prime amount of time. One loop ran five xterms, one ran two
glxgears (one fullscreen) and one ran twenty xeyes while the final loop
ran a fulscreen mplayer. When I have run this kind of load
interactively it hangs the machine within 20-30 minutes, run via SSH it
ran stably for over 12 hours.

Thus I conclude that the thing that triggers the bug is dependent on
psmouse or (inclusive-or) interactive use of the machine via keyboard
and mouse.

I'm beginning to think that this is more like a kernel / psmouse /
X-input bug a less of a graphics bug.

Cheers,

Bug#639106: libv4l-0: object '/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded

2011-08-25 Thread Andreas Neudecker
Hi Gregor.

which skype points to /usr/local/bin/skype, right?
Holy shute! I totally forgot this was still there, should have been
deleted long ago, when I installed the new deb of skype. I am so sorry!

If you update /usr/local/bin/skype everything should work as expected.

v4l1compat.so is now loaded correctly, thank you!
I am currently checking the flags for un-mirroring the video image.

Kind regards

Andreas

Bug#639237: base: Wrong startup order

2011-08-25 Thread Ladislav Wartha
Package: base
Severity: normal

Issue is with the startup order. Let's asume basic LAMP server. In this case
Apache web server is started up before MySQL or PostgreSQL database, not to
speak about LDAP. All database processes hould be started during first stage of
startup, because of dependency of apache web server or postfix or any other
frontend process.

Thus I conclude that the thing that triggers the bug is dependent on
psmouse or (inclusive-or) interactive use of the machine via keyboard
 and mouse.

It's important to make the distinction between these possibilities
though:

Can you still trigger the hang moving the mouse interactively (e.g. with
a USB mouse) when psmouse was never loaded?

If yes, does Option SWcursor in xorg.conf work around the problem?
(Verify in Xorg.0.log that the option takes effect)

I usually use tzap/mplayer for TV playback.

After the upgrade to Linux 3.0.0, tzap command line output still looks
fine, but mplayer does not seem to receive any data (its cache does not
 fill up).

syslog/dmesg output looks the same as in 2.6.39. On the first try to
 tune, dmesg receives:

dib0700: tx buffer length is larger than 4. Not supported.
(for which I find various non-Debian bug reports)

But that does not seem to be the issue, because the same message appears
in 2.6.39, where everything is fine.
So I do not really have an idea what the problem is, but I certainly
know that it's a regression, because simply booting Linux 2.6.39 rather
than 3.0.0 on the same system avoids the problem.

I am also curios about why they are under /lib and not /usr/lib, maybe

Bug#639240: revelation: Fails to open any file

2011-08-25 Thread Julien Ozog
Package: revelation
Version: 0.4.11-9
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Sine a recent upgrade in testing (I can't find the package introducing the
problem), revelation can't open files anymore, it always fails with the
following stack trace:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/bin/revelation, line 191, in lambda
action.connect(activate,  lambda w: self.file_open())
  File /usr/bin/revelation, line 1460, in file_open

file_normpath
return re.sub(^file:/{,2}, , str(gnomevfs.URI(file)))
TypeError: could not parse URI

The file is on my local hard drive, in my home directory. I've tried removing
this call to gnomevfs.URI but then it fails later when calling
gnomevfs.read_entire_file with a Invalid URL error.
I've tried to create and save a new file and I get the same error.
Revelation is totally unusable.

Yes, that's good enough. :) I was asking in order to tell if it was
3.0.0-1 or 3.0.0-2 (since both use the same linux-image-3.0.0-1-amd64

Thanks for the link, I'll have a look into reporting later.

Now that I look more closely, it seems it's probably worth testing
v3.1-rc1 or later[1] first. There have been some e1000e fixes

Bug#639015: [Pkg-haskell-maintainers] libffi soname change upcoming

2011-08-25 Thread Simon Marlow

On 24/08/2011 13:12, Joachim Breitner wrote:

Hi,

Am Mittwoch, den 24.08.2011, 12:44 +0200 schrieb Matthias Klose:

The question that has to be answered first is: Assume the libraries do
not depend on libffi themselves, and only ghc does. Now you update
libffi and ghc gets rebuilds, what will happen:

  A) The haskell ABIs stay the same, the existing library packages can
still be used. Great.

  B) The haskell ABIs change. We’ll have to binNMU all Haskell libraries,
but oh well, not bad thanks to BD-Uninstallable-support in wanna-build
and autosigning.

  C) The haskell ABIs do not change, but the old library builds are
broken nevertheless. Big mess. Hard to recover from, because builds are
not ordered automatically any more. Needs lots of NMUes and Dep-Waits.

sorry, I don't get the `C' case. why should these be broken by a libffi or
libgmp change?

Maybe it’s an unrealistic example, but I could imagine that ghc some
data type (size) defined by libffi is used when generating code for a
haskell library under the assumption that it has the same structure/size
in the run time system and/or other used haskell libraries.

But instead of making blind guesses, maybe GHC upstream can enlighten
us: Is it safe to build ghc and a Haskell library, then upgrade libffi
to a new version (with soname bump), rebuild ghc, but use the previous
library build?

So there might be difficulties because we build static libraries. E.g.
the RTS would have been built against the previous libffi, but would
then be linked against the new one, which might be ABI-incompatible.
Shared libraries would notice the upgrade and use the old ABI, but
static libraries won't.

How is this supposed to work, incidentally? I just checked the Drepper
document about shared libraries and he doesn't seem to mention this
problem. How do other packages with static libraries deal with this?

Cheers,
Simon

Bug#639244: Documentation error/inconsistency

2011-08-25 Thread Marcos Mezo Gil
Package: ifenslave-2.6
Severity: normal

In the documentation (/usr/share/doc/ifenslave-2.6/README.Debian.gz) the first
section keeps refering to bonding
options with an underscore (bond_master, bond_slave,...), while later, when
explaining the options in detail
it uses a dash instead (bond-master, bond-slave, bond-miimon,...). I've checked
it in both squeeze's version and
the latest available to date (1.1.0-19).

The internet is full of recipes for configuring bonded interfaces in debian.
Some of them use the underscore,
some the dash and some even mix them. While researching a different problem I
have I checked the documentation
and found this error/inconsistency.

In the Debian changelog it's written that all options start with bond-, so I
gess the correct one is the dash.

Thank you.

P.S. the unrelated problem is that I can ping on vlan interfaces on top of the
bonded interface, but not
on the native bond0 interface.

I think it must be:

I think also all others task-.*-desktop packages are affected by this error.

It got properly packed by dpkg-deb as anything else.

Most probably it's neither. That specific assertion checks that the
size of the symlink has not changed between the stat(2) and the
readlink(2) calls, and that the sizes are coherent with what POSIX
specifies.

In this case though that should have been a proper warning() and
ohshit() calls instead of an assert(), I'm changing that now.

Yes, an assertion failure in dpkg is by definition a dpkg bug (barring
hardware failures, etc). Thanks for passing it on.

Matthias, what version of dpkg do you use?

The relevant question here would be, what file system(s) are you using?
Maybe some encrypted stuff? At some point it was discovered some of
those was not really POSIX compliant and got fixed but maybe you are

Bug#639246: retext: Tries to unregister timer which is not registered

2011-08-25 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Hi Michael! This error may be caused by hundred of different reasons.

- Did you only get it once or do you get it several times? If the
latter, what are you doing when this appears (i.e. clicking Preview,
printing and so on)?

- Do you use the spell checker? Python-enchnant can cause this error.
Are you able to reproduce it without it?
- Can you try ReText 2? The .debs are available in Debian Unstable and
here (no extra dependencies are needed):
  http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/r/retext/retext_2.0.0-1_all.deb
  http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/r/retext/retext-wpgen_2.0.0-1_all.deb

Anyway, this doesn't affect the stability, so is not an important issue.

It was not obvious to me. Depending on your preferred name for the
decompressed file, you have at least two choices:

 - use -S.bin to use .bin as the suffix to strip, instead of .xz

 - implement a --output=path option and send a patch to
   xz-de...@tukaani.org (subscription required[1]). The patch
description can explain why xz -dc infile outfile is not good
enough and how it works in the case infile=outfile.

Hope that helps, though I'm not sure what I'm adding here that the man
page does not provide. I'm glad to hear you're finding xz useful to
at least decompress a file or two. :)

Cheers,
Jonathan

an ls to that:

and a file command to that:

seams that here is something broken on the file system ...

removing that symlink solves my problem ...

probably it would be nice, if dpkg would tell which file/symlink is
broken...

Dear Bastian.

I am not sure what do you mean by setup standard encryption types. I
believe that those are the standard encryption types. I haven't use any
special configuration. I tried to use the most basic setting for
Kerberos and LDAP.

Bug#637572: [Gptfdisk-general] Bug#637572: gdisk: fails to write protective MBR

2011-08-25 Thread Rod Smith

On 08/24/2011 02:08 PM, Arno Schuring wrote:

Rob)

Arno Schuring (aelschur...@hotmail.com on 2011-08-16 00:55 +0200):

Hi,

I've taken a (cursory) look at the diffs, version 0.7's MBR is always
all-zeroes. I did get to try these disks on i386 as well, and there it
works fine, so it's not disk-related. I guess it's either an
architecture-specific bug or a compiler gotcha.

I've been unable to reproduce this. The local compile on the arm box
produces a correctly functioning executable, so I've not yet been
playing with compile-time options and such.

My (very basic) approach has been:
# apt-get build-dep gdisk/testing
$ apt-get source gdisk/testing
$ cd gdisk-0.7.2
$ dh_auto_build
# ./gdisk /dev/sda

This is with gcc version 4.4.5 (Debian 4.4.5-8) on an up-to-date
Squeeze install. Gdisk is from testing, and from the QA logs I can see
that the package is built with gcc 4.6.

Upgrading to 4.6 on this box is not possible (it requires me to upgrade
libc6), I'll pursue this once I have a working cross-compiler or
chroot. Pointers welcome :)

This certainly sounds like an issue that's specific to GCC 4.6. (I'm not
implying that GCC 4.6 is buggy, necessarily; it's more likely that it's
just doing something subtly different from other versions of GCC and my
code is assuming a different behavior.) I don't currently have GCC 4.6
installed on any of my computers, but I'll get it up and running on one
of them. With any luck that'll enable me to reproduce and fix the bug.

In the meantime, the workaround for you is obvious: Use your
locally-compiled (with GCC 4.4.5) version of gdisk!

and eventually help in resolving it if it has not already been
 resolved.

 When I am reading

 http://buildd.debian-ports.org/status/package.php?p=fiosuite=unstabl
 e

correctly, then fio 1.50-1 has been build 167d before on buildd
 kongou.

 Ciao,

How about something like the below, it's a bit more cleanly implemented?
It still has the branch overhead per memory barrier, but I would not
worry about that too much.

Bug#639254: sagan postinst script hangs

2011-08-25 Thread julien reveret
Package: sagan
Version: 0.1.9-1
Severity: important

When installing sagan, the postinst script starts it using the start-stop-daemon
program. The script hangs because sagan doesn't go to background despite the use
of the -D flag.
The only workaround I found is to add the -b flag to start-stop-daemon.

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violates
sections 7.6.1 and 10.1 of the policy. An optimal solution would
consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming
or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the
circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file
diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a
last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual
Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and
diversions should only be used

Bug#545151: retitle 545151 to RFP: libnatspec -- a library for national and language-specific issues

2011-08-25 Thread Andrew O . Shadura
retitle 545151 RFP: libnatspec -- a library for national and language-specific
issues
noowner 545151
close 545151
thanks

Closing this bug as it seems like there's no high demand in this library to be
packaged.

Bug#516689: paraview and python-vtk: error when trying to install together

2011-08-25 Thread Ralf Treinen
Version: paraview/3.10.1-2

Unpacking paraview (from .../paraview_3.10.1-2_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/paraview_3.10.1-2_amd64.deb (--un
pack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/vtkWrapPython', which is also in package python-v
tk 5.6.1-6+b1
configured to not write apport reports
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Processing triggers for man-db ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/paraview_3.10.1-2_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  /usr/bin/vtkWrapPython
  /usr/bin/vtkWrapPythonInit
