Bug#639226: kexec-tools: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: kexec-tools Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Sunday, August 07, 2011, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for kexec-tools. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. However, please try to avoid uploading kexec-tools with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Sunday, August 28, 2011, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Sunday, September 18, 2011. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around Monday, September 19, 2011, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.0.0-1-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- kexec-tools.old/debian/kexec-tools.templates2011-08-06 09:18:34.346714760 +0200 +++ kexec-tools/debian/kexec-tools.templates2011-08-25 08:03:28.642783005 +0200 @@ -1,15 +1,24 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: kexec-tools/load_kexec Type: boolean Default: true _Description: Should kexec-tools handle reboots? Bug#627705: Broadcom Ethernet adapters (tg3 broadcom drivers)
Hi Ben et al, For the record, new 21.5 iMacs use Broadcom 57765, which is on your list as not supported. So this appears to be a serious problem for installing on these machines (which will be numerous!) Bug#638839: multiarchize hal: wrong patch..
On Tue, Aug 23, 2011 at 06:47:46PM +0200, Michael Biebl wrote: thanks for the patch. I have to acknowledge that I no longer actively use hal and try to get rid of it for wheezy [1] (for Linux at least). So I'm wondering, if there is a benefit of converting hal to multiarch. Good question. I picked up hal from the ia32libs package, as one of the goals of multiarch is to get rid of ia32libs. If hal is vanishing anyways, then this patch can be ignored. Have you tested hal that it still works correctly? nope :) Only that libraries are now installed to the right place and that dynamic linker still picks them up as expected. Bug#637234: linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae: I/O errors using ext4 under xen
Hi Konrad, Does this look at all familiar? There is some more info in the full bug log at http://bugs.debian.org/637234 . In particular, contrary to the message below, the user subsequently confirmed that the issue appears to be Xen specific (doesn't happen on native or vmware) and that it arose between 2.6.39-2-686-pae and 3.0.0-1-686-pae. Could it be related to edf6ef59ec7e xen-blkfront: Introduce BLKIF_OP_FLUSH_DISKCACHE support? That looks like the only pertinent change between 2.6.39 and 3.0. Gedalya, 2.6.39-2-686-pae could be anything from v2.6.39..v2.6.39.2 please could you confirm which package version you have installed in case it makes a difference. Cheers, Ian. This is definitly not a bug in util-linux. This rather means that co:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty hvc0 9600 linux the command /sbin/getty hvc0 9600 linux fails to be executed properly. Depending on the kernel you are using, this might be an Debian issue or not. Also, it's quite probably not release critical. hvc0 seems to be an xen-specific perhaps, so it would be relevant where you got your kernel from (self-built? debian?), which package version you are using, did it work before, etc. I reproduced this problem today with a fresh install. I've installed the latest daily build of d-i from today. What I did was: * booted the installer with a netinst image from today * installed the base system * in tasksel, selected the Laptop task + standard Debian tools After rebooting my /etc/inittab ended up with that line: co:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty hvc0 9600 linux And syslog has one of those warning messages every few minutes (although this is annoying, it's not a serious bug since it does not really break anything). This line is the only difference between the fresh inittab provided by sysvinit and the /etc/inittab my system ended up with. It looks like that line was added by something in the installation, but I could not identify exactly what. Among the installed packages, only sysvinit mentions inittab in its {post, pre}inst script. It might have been introduced when the unified init script was added and debhelper automatically added its bits to prerm and postinst. Check please. I was also surprised when I noticed that. If not, please offer help. There is a partial patch mentioned earlier in the bug report. By this method, we cannot support both SH4 and SH4A. When we build with machine of SH4A, a binary to work only in SH4A is built. Because Debian SH team are supporting sh4 and sh4a in one binary, this becomes the problem. Usually kernel cache succeeds in natively mounted dirs, and fails in bind/nullfs mounted dir. strace under Linux: openat(AT_FDCWD, a, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY|O_NONBLOCK|O_DIRECTORY|O_NOFOLLOW|O_CLOEXEC) = 5 fstat(5, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 newfstatat(5, file, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=4, ...}, AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW) = 0 openat(5, file, O_RDONLY|O_NOCTTY|O_NONBLOCK|O_NOFOLLOW|O_CLOEXEC) = 6 fstat(6, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=4, ...}) = 0 write(1, a/file\n, 7) = 7 read(6, bla\n, 4) = 4 fstat(6, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=4, ...}) = 0 close(6)= 0 getcwd(/home/petrsa/trash/tar-1.26/dir/sub, 4096) = 36 ktrace under GNU/kFreeBSD: 60863 tar CALL fstatat(0xff9c,0x64c2d0,0x7fffe180,0x200) 60863 tar NAMI a 60863 tar STRU invalid record 60863 tar RET fstatat 0 60863 tar CALL openat(0xff9c,0x64c2d0,0x8104,0) 60863 tar NAMI a 60863 tar RET openat 5 60863 tar CALL fstat(0x5,0x7fffe1d0) 60863 tar STRU invalid record 60863 tar RET fstat 0 60863 tar CALL fstat(0x5,0x7fffdd60) 60863 tar STRU invalid record 60863 tar RET fstat 0 60863 tar CALL fcntl(0x5,invalid=3,0) 60863 tar RET fcntl 4 60863 tar CALL fcntl(0x5,invalid=2,FD_CLOEXEC) 60863 tar RET fcntl 0 60863 tar CALL getdents(0x5,0x651180,0x8000) 60863 tar RET getdents 512/0x200 60863 tar CALL getdents(0x5,0x651180,0x8000) 60863 tar RET getdents 0 60863 tar CALL __getcwd(0x7fffd440,0x400) 60863 tar NAMI .. 60863 tar RET __getcwd -1 errno 13 Permission denied .. 60863 tar CALL open(0x800b99e7e,O_NONBLOCK,unused0) 60863 tar NAMI .. 60863 tar RET open -1 errno 13 Permission denied 60863 tar CALL write(0x2,0x7fffb3f0,0x7) 60863 tar GIO fd 2 wrote 7 bytes ./tar: 60863 tar RET write 7 60863 tar CALL write(0x2,0x7fffb470,0x1c) 60863 tar GIO fd 2 wrote 28 bytes Cannot get working directory 60863 tar RET write 28/0x1c 60863 tar CALL write(0x2,0x7fffaf60,0x13) 60863 tar GIO fd 2 wrote 19 bytes : Permission denied Back-trace up-to getcwd() #3 0x004180fa in normalize_filename (name=0x64c600 a) at misc.c:298 #4 0x004129d6 in attach_directory (name=value optimized out, mtime=..., dev=184614661, ino=17522742, nfs=false, found=false, contents=0x64c610 Yfile) at incremen.c:282 #5 note_directory (name=value optimized out, mtime=..., dev=184614661, ino=17522742, nfs=false, found=false, contents=0x64c610 Yfile) at incremen.c:312 #6 0x00414b4e in read_incr_db_2 () at incremen.c:1262 #7 read_directory_file () at incremen.c:1338 #8 0x0041a33c in collect_and_sort_names () at names.c:959 #9 0x0040ca22 in create_archive () at create.c:1321 #10 0x00404925 in main (argc=value optimized out, argv=value optimized out) at tar.c:2646 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Uploaded a few hours ago (src:xorg needed to reached testing before it could be backported, hence the delay compared to mesa, xorg-server, and drivers). Right; have upgraded to the latest X.org and kernel in backports and the problem still persists. Something causes the machine to hang while bieng used interactively in X and after this loading the kernel psmouse module hangs the machine. What should I try next? Can you try if the hangs in X happen when the psmouse module is never loaded in the first place? So I've tried the following: 1. Boot from a Debian 4.0 install CD to clear the non-volatile fault. 2. Boot from a Debian 6.0 install CD to blacklist psmouse without loading it. 3. Reboot the system and let X start. 4. Log in via SSH and run four separate loops, each of which starts a set of programs, sleeps for a prime amount of time, kills them and sleep for another prime amount of time. One loop ran five xterms, one ran two glxgears (one fullscreen) and one ran twenty xeyes while the final loop ran a fulscreen mplayer. When I have run this kind of load interactively it hangs the machine within 20-30 minutes, run via SSH it ran stably for over 12 hours. Thus I conclude that the thing that triggers the bug is dependent on psmouse or (inclusive-or) interactive use of the machine via keyboard and mouse. I'm beginning to think that this is more like a kernel / psmouse / X-input bug a less of a graphics bug. It's important to make the distinction between these possibilities though: Can you still trigger the hang moving the mouse interactively (e.g. with a USB mouse) when psmouse was never loaded? If yes, does Option SWcursor in xorg.conf work around the problem? On the first try to tune, dmesg receives: dib0700: tx buffer length is larger than 4. Not supported. Bug#639015: [Pkg-haskell-maintainers] libffi soname change upcoming
On 24/08/2011 13:12, Joachim Breitner wrote: Hi, Am Mittwoch, den 24.08.2011, 12:44 +0200 schrieb Matthias Klose: The question that has to be answered first is: Assume the libraries do not depend on libffi themselves, and only ghc does. Now you update libffi and ghc gets rebuilds, what will happen: A) The haskell ABIs stay the same, the existing library packages can still be used. Great. B) The haskell ABIs change. We’ll have to binNMU all Haskell libraries, but oh well, not bad thanks to BD-Uninstallable-support in wanna-build and autosigning. C) The haskell ABIs do not change, but the old library builds are broken nevertheless. Big mess. Hard to recover from, because builds are not ordered automatically any more. Needs lots of NMUes and Dep-Waits. sorry, I don't get the `C' case. why should these be broken by a libffi or libgmp change? Maybe it’s an unrealistic example, but I could imagine that ghc some data type (size) defined by libffi is used when generating code for a haskell library under the assumption that it has the same structure/size in the run time system and/or other used haskell libraries. But instead of making blind guesses, maybe GHC upstream can enlighten us: Is it safe to build ghc and a Haskell library, then upgrade libffi to a new version (with soname bump), rebuild ghc, but use the previous library build? So there might be difficulties because we build static libraries. E.g. the RTS would have been built against the previous libffi, but would then be linked against the new one, which might be ABI-incompatible. Shared libraries would notice the upgrade and use the old ABI, but static libraries won't. How is this supposed to work, incidentally? I just checked the Drepper document about shared libraries and he doesn't seem to mention this problem. How do other packages with static libraries deal with this? Bug#639244: Documentation error/inconsistency
Package: ifenslave-2.6 Severity: normal In the documentation (/usr/share/doc/ifenslave-2.6/README.Debian.gz) the first section keeps refering to bonding options with an underscore (bond_master, bond_slave,...), while later, when explaining the options in detail it uses a dash instead (bond-master, bond-slave, bond-miimon,...). I've checked it in both squeeze's version and the latest available to date (1.1.0-19). The internet is full of recipes for configuring bonded interfaces in debian. Some of them use the underscore, some the dash and some even mix them. While researching a different problem I have I checked the documentation and found this error/inconsistency. In the Debian changelog it's written that all options start with bond-, so I gess the correct one is the dash. Thank you. P.S. the unrelated problem is that I can ping on vlan interfaces on top of the bonded interface, but not on the native bond0 interface. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.2 APT prefers stable APT policy: (900, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_ES.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_ES.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I did get to try these disks on i386 as well, and there it works fine, so it's not disk-related. I guess it's either an architecture-specific bug or a compiler gotcha. I've been unable to reproduce this. The local compile on the arm box produces a correctly functioning executable, so I've not yet been playing with compile-time options and such. My (very basic) approach has been: # apt-get build-dep gdisk/testing $ apt-get source gdisk/testing $ cd gdisk-0.7.2 $ dh_auto_build # ./gdisk /dev/sda This is with gcc version 4.4.5 (Debian 4.4.5-8) on an up-to-date Squeeze install. Gdisk is from testing, and from the QA logs I can see that the package is built with gcc 4.6. Upgrading to 4.6 on this box is not possible (it requires me to upgrade libc6), I'll pursue this once I have a working cross-compiler or chroot. Pointers welcome :) This certainly sounds like an issue that's specific to GCC 4.6. (I'm not implying that GCC 4.6 is buggy, necessarily; it's more likely that it's just doing something subtly different from other versions of GCC and my code is assuming a different behavior.) I don't currently have GCC 4.6 installed on any of my computers, but I'll get it up and running on one of them. With any luck that'll enable me to reproduce and fix the bug. In the meantime, the workaround for you is obvious: Use your locally-compiled (with GCC 4.4.5) version of gdisk! -- Rod Smith rodsm...@rodsbooks.com http://www.rodsbooks.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. When I am reading http://buildd.debian-ports.org/status/package.php?p=fiosuite=unstabl e correctly, then fio 1.50-1 has been build 167d before on buildd kongou. So is this issue resolved? If not, please offer help. There is a partial patch mentioned earlier in the bug report. By this method, we cannot support both SH4 and SH4A. When we build with machine of SH4A, a binary to work only in SH4A is built. Because Debian SH team are supporting sh4 and sh4a in one binary, this becomes the problem. And this is a problem peculiar to Debian. It will not become the problem in other distribution. (e.g., Gentoo) It is necessary to check whether you do not do it whether we support synco when we support both CPU's when we execute *_barrier. I think that this has a big overhead. I attached quick hack patch. Jens, what do you think about such a patch? Please advice. Nobuhiro, where do you think comes the big overhead from? In your patch you check once at beginning for sinco capability. Do you refer to the if statement you added in arch/arch-sh.h? Ciao, How about something like the below, it's a bit more cleanly implemented? An optimal solution would consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and diversions should only be used
