Bug#657830: New win32-loader-pxe.exe on the mirrors network
Hi Joerg, and thanks for your feedback; Le 20.02.2012 08:03, Joerg Jaspert a écrit : Does it need to be a new binary, or can't this go into the normal one and be just an option to select PXE? Not necessarily. I think there are basically three options to solve that bug: a) include the PXE option in the default win32-loader.exe (bumping its size from 918K to 1.2M). This puts the PXE choice in the way of default usage: right after the language choice, the user can choose between Normal mode, Expert mode or PXE. So option a) sums up to ~1.2M . b) create two executables: 1] win32-loader.exe for default usage (referred to from the installation manual, etc) that does not prompt the PXE option and weighs 918k; 2] win32-loader-pxe.exe for special usage that permits _both_ secure d-i downloading and PXE installation. This one weighs 1.2M. So option b) sums up to ~2.1M c) create two executables: 1] same as in b), the default secure d-i downloader, 918K; 2] a reduced PXE version, without the d-i downloader part, that would only be able to install PXE (unknown size yet). Among those three options, a) and b) are straightforward with the current code, while c) would imply more work, not done yet. That's mostly why I picked the b) option, as it doesn't put the PXE prompt in the default way of users. But c) seems superior, both in terms of size and in terms of usage. What do you bug readers think? Cheers, OdyX signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#660614: add way to quiet Skipping bad line cron spam
Package: logtools Version: 0.13d Severity: normal Tags: patch Hi, We're processing several GB of logs daily with clfmerge, thanks for the useful tool! Bug#617314: Yelp keeps spawning new windows
I have the same problem on Debian 6.0, Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 11.10. If I select Help/Show Contents from Gnome Terminal, I get an infinite number of empty help windows grabbing the focus. Here is an idea to help tracking down this bug. I believe that the help menu item in the terminal worked on Debian 6.0 until I installed the GoGui 1.4.2 software[1], which I am the author of. After that, it did not work anymore. GoGui has an install shell script that installs an OMF file to /usr/local/share/omf/gogui/gogui-C.omf and then runs scrollkeeper-update. I am not sure if this really triggered the bug because I would have to reinstall the distribution from scratch to test this theory, but I do have GoGui installed on all systems listed above and they all have a broken help system now. - Markus [1] http://sourceforge.net/projects/gogui/files/gogui/1.4.2/gogui-1.4.2.zip -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. tag 656365 upstream forwarded 656365 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46330 thanks Hi, Followup: apparently a new type of properties was introduced, called cardinals. These do not (yet) seem to be supported by synclient and xinput. See this patch proposed in June: http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-devel/2011-June/023284.html or in git: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-synaptics/diff/?id2=6269fdaf3283ba4a8051858fc2b43fa102823e96 and http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-synaptics/commit/?id=a24c44375025576dd600ccf370ba365e5d94dc22 Which would explain the error I see in xinput: Synaptics Pressure Motion (292):... of unknown type CARDINAL which may just be the meaning of 32 in synclient: PressureMotionMinZ = format mismatch (32) I'm not an expert on X11, but XA_CARDINAL seems to be an integer, so it should be fairly easy to add support. Or to revert back to integer as a hotfix. Regards, Erich -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Hi, I just tried with the amd64 kernel and Xen, and I didn't see any issue. However, it is important that Xen 4.1 + Linux 3.2 works with a 32 bits kernel, because that is the most optimized configuration (eg: 64 bits hypervisor, 32 bits kernel and 32 bits userland). I didn't see any 3.3-rc4 kernel package in Debian. Is it planned to be uploaded to Experimental or something? Zumbi: please call off the NMU. I'm now in dialog with the maintainer. See my other email. Turns out I was grossly generalising, and they're targeting around the end of the month. Good to hear there is progress with upstream. Personally I'd rather see a non-rc buggy version in testing before a new upstream version (potentially with new rc bugs) is introduced to unstable but i'll let you make the final call as to whether to upload my work. How about you just send me a patch against what's in the Git repository (at head)? I've forward ported my changes to the head of your git repo. Patch is attatched. Could you try patches 1/3 and 2/3 (but _not_ 3/3) from [1] and see if they fix it? squeeze's kernel with those two patches still have the same issue, unfortunately. Weird. Just to check: is the kernel from sid or 2.6.37 affected? (The only packages from outside squeeze you should need in order to test other than the kernel image are linux-base and initramfs-tools. Historic kernels can be found at http://snapshot.debian.org/.) I've re-installed the machine using one lenny instalation (not sure which version) and there was no flickering. I've then upgraded to squeeze - not sure which version - using another instalation CD) and the flickering was there. I've then dist-upgraded and the flickering was still present. So I've done what you asked in the previous e-mail: picked up the sources from squeeze, applied twose two patches (but not the third), installed the resulting linux-image and booted it: the flicker was still present. I'll try to get some time tomorrow for testing 2.6.37+30 and up from http://snapshot.debian.org/binary/linux-image-2.6-686/ until I find one that doesn't flicker, and I'll let you know the results. Package: fritzing Version: 0.6.3b+dfsg-3.1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? The program crashes on the second attempt to use 'Save' or 'Save as'. It also crashes when it is 'saved as' on a new, non-existing file. If the file already exists, the previous file is overwritten with an empty (0 bytes) file. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? 'Save' or 'save as' * What was the outcome of this action? A crash of fritzing, leaving the following in dmesg: Fritzing[7244]: segfault at 28 ip 0067b1f4 sp 7fffc3076a50 error 4 in Fritzing[40+546000] Note: 7244 varies from different instances of Fritzing, and is most likely the proces id. I got no errors from either and they appeared to do something interesting. So if the issue is displaying on a powerpc X server, then I have no way to test that, but if it is just running on an powerpc machine then it appears fine. I tested with libsdl1.2-1.2.15/test, but I can use another version if desired. Thank you so much for the quick help! 1.2.15 is fine, I wanted to confirm if this old bug was still present or fixed. I don't have interest in testing other versions of SDL in principle. BTW, maybe you can attach the files (code + makefile) to allow other people to test more easily? Other than that, what I understand from the original reporter is that the problem is precisely the interaction between SDL and the local X server, maybe it was an issue with the GPU so it would be difficult to reproduce. If other people can test with a local X display on PowerPC please do -- at least so it can be determined whether it works in some machines, to rule out if it's a general problem of powerpc or not. Bug#660630: zsh: suspend (^Z) behavior while a function is running is unclear
Package: zsh Version: 4.3.15-1 Severity: normal The suspend (^Z) behavior while a function is running is unclear. The documentation (man pages) should describe the behavior. There may be a bug in zsh, as some other shells don't behave in the same way. Consider: foo() { emacs $@; d=`date`; echo $d; } and the following test under X (so that Emacs uses its own window, or you can try with another X application): 1. Run foo. 2. Type ^Z in the terminal. 3. Type: fg [Return]. 4. Quit Emacs. 5. Type: echo $d [Return]. With zsh, the whole function is suspended. The effect is that zsh is forked (this is not documented, though can be guessed), thus $d will not be set in the main shell (Step 5: nothing is displayed). With bash, dash, mksh and pdksh, only the emacs process is suspended. With ksh93, the ^Z is ignored until Emacs is quit, then the function is suspended, with the same effects as in zsh. With posh, the whole shell is suspended. But even if it does... wouldn't that be better? That SSL is just useless, so admins are better off with disabling it altogether. the packaged version remains rather useless as the generated dh key happens on configure. so installing the built binary package isn't that security aware, though the source install does generate a new dh key everytime you call configure. by that means, upstream probably does not see the opportunity to include such patches/changes with high priority. and with upstream, i do mean the official nagios nrpe project. the icinga one is just an unofficial fork, trying to collect various community patches, and if worth the squeeze, release as seperate version. but this is not yet decided when and where, because there isn't any official maintainer (within the icinga project). and icinga nrpe is not in a releasable state. Just for my personal education :) ... what's the issue about it? as pointed out previously, read the development tracker, especially the issues and the roadmap. there's a reason i'm posting those urls. I mean the current situation is IMHO a bit concerning. - Nagios upstream seems to have abandoned this issue. this isn't news for anyone in the nagios space. can you do better than just telling us? - SSL is activated per default in Debian, which is useless anyway and in the worst case gives a wrong feeling of security. it is not useless anyway. it just contains the same dh key generated on package build. so each revision will contain at least a different dh key. and it is well known to those following bugs and cves that nrpe got those issues, but the discussion has not yet reached a level where patches would entirely and not breaking fix that issue. if you got any better (aka a valuable patch), provide those please instead of just nagging the package maintainers for things people know for at least 5 years already. do something about it. - Severity of this issue is just important, IMHO it should be grave (http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities), which would also notify at least those using apt-listbugs. a package should contain the upstream release source. a package should mostly not entirely change the mechanism of a transport layer within the source release, even if this is considered a security flaw. a package does not mean that the packager him/herself necessary needs to know how the upstream release is coded and how to fix bugs within them. and a package means that the package maintainer must decide if userprovided patches can be seaminglessly integrated into the package, or if he/she wants to wait for an upstream decision because of the severity of changes introduced by that patch. mentioned bug with nrpe and ssl is such a thing and can truly understand that alex does not want to patch his packages when upstream source compiled builds behave differently. i've already put various weekends into the icinga nrpe version and their patches, but currently i cannot maintain core+cgi+idoutils+mq and things like nrpe/nsca. that will require code, tests, and community feedback. - Of course one can argue that you cannot do much of an attack with NRPE, but people may rely on SSL and think it safe because of it to enable argument processing in NRPE you should probably start a discussion on nagios-devel mailinglists, where the developers of nrpe read and write. that discussion must be moved upstream, and not into the package space imho. Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: xonotic Version : 0.5.0 * URL : http://www.xonotic.org/ * License : GPL Description : Xonotic is a free, open source (GPL) ultra-fast, first-person shooter The game is based off the Darkplaces game engine which is originally a quake modification, though it is now far more advanced over the course of many years of development. Because of the features of this engine, Xonotic has incredibly good graphics for an opensource game and is on par with most commercial games from 2006-2007. The gameplay is of course slightly inspired by several other games, but it is essentially a unique mixture of mostly original and different ideas which really makes the game stand out. It could be considered most similar to Unreal Tournament and Quake at its heart, especially regarding teamplay and game mechanics. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#660630: [Pkg-zsh-devel] Bug#660630: zsh: suspend (^Z) behavior while a function is running is unclear
Hi, just some _opinion_ on this issue. Vincent Lefevre wrote: With zsh, the whole function is suspended. That's actually what I would expect from any shell function I call from the commandline. Everything else causes undetermined behaviour and is annoying. (Or said otherwise: Yet another reason to use zsh. It's a feature, not a bug! :-) The effect is that zsh is forked (this is not documented, though can be guessed), thus $d will not be set in the main shell (Step 5: nothing is displayed). That's annoying indeed. Ran into that with another shell, too, IIRC bash. With bash, dash, mksh and pdksh, only the emacs process is suspended. Nevertheless bash and dash definitely differ here with regards to forking. I remember that I once had a shell script which should set some variable inside a { } block (no more sure if some function or a while loop). While bash started a subshell and couldn't return any variable, dash didn't and it worked with dash but not bash. (Usually things are the other way round. :-) I looked up the POSIX definition and it came out that it is not defined, if a subshell/fork should be used or not, i.e. if you use such stuff you get undefined behaviour. Bug#288323: Debian zsh bug triage

See http://www.zsh.org/mla/workers/2008/msg01850.html I still think choice 1 meets users expectations best and is the safest thing to do. Maybe offer this as an option? I disagree with choice 1, even though zsh behaves like that for functions (unlike other shells), so that side effects no longer affect the current shell when the function has been suspended. There's at least a documentation problem. I've reported the following bug about functions: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=660630 On Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 21:46, Richard Hartmann richih.mailingl...@gmail.com wrote: Hi all, I am triaging bugs in Debian's BTS [1] and the first two things that are still valid are (both have been on zsh-workers, the first in 2004, the second in 2005): 2) Unexpected behaviour when stopping a job in a command chain[3] Consider this: echo one sleep 10 echo two When stopping `sleep 10`, `echo two` will never be executed, no matter in what way you revive `sleep 10`. That is OK as backgrounding `sleep 10` will set $? to 20. Yet, with echo one ; sleep 10 ; echo two the same thing happens. As Bart pointed out[4]: Given one two three, if two stops, the shell has three choices: (1) pretend the command was { one two three } and suspend the entire sublist; or (2) pretend that two has returned a status and continue the junction; or (3) stop the entire shell until two is resumed. Choice (1) is undesirable because it subverts the user's intent (if he meant there to be braces, he should have typed them) and it puts three into a separate process when it might better have been run in the current shell. This is the kind of problem I've observed with a suspended function. Choice (3) is impossible in an interactive shell. That leaves (2), which is what zsh does, using the signal number as the status. I don't see why (3) is impossible (posh does that or ignore the ^Z, depending on how it has been started: from another shell or directly by the terminal). Note that the terminal can be able to send signals to the process group of the process running under the terminal (for instance, xterm can do that). For ^Z, there's also: (4) ignore the TSTP signal. Or handle it only when it is safe. Personally, I think 1) would meet most users' expectations, [...] Not if there's a side effect, such as setting a variable. -- Vincent Lefèvre vinc...@vinc17.net - Web: http://www.vinc17.net/ 100% accessible validated (X)HTML - Blog: http://www.vinc17.net/blog/ Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / AriC project (LIP, ENS-Lyon) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#646221: Uploading openvpn to stable
Hi! Alberto Gonzalez Iniesta a...@inittab.org (20/02/2012): I'd like to upload openvpn to stable in order to fix #646221. This bug makes the package almost nonfunctional in kfreebsd archs. The patch (in the bug report) is trivial and it's been already tested in sid and wheezy. I like the sound of trivial and tested in sid+wheezy; please send us a source debdiff against the version in stable, so that we can review it. Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
