Bug#657830: New win32-loader-pxe.exe on the mirrors network

2012-02-20 Thread Didier 'OdyX' Raboud
Hi Joerg, and thanks for your feedback;

Le 20.02.2012 08:03, Joerg Jaspert a écrit :
Does it need to be a new binary, or can't this go into the normal one and
be just an option to select PXE?

Not necessarily. I think there are basically three options to solve that
bug:

a) include the PXE option in the default win32-loader.exe (bumping its
size from 918K to 1.2M). This puts the PXE choice in the way of default
usage: right after the language choice, the user can choose between
Normal mode, Expert mode or PXE.
So option a) sums up to ~1.2M .

b) create two executables:
1] win32-loader.exe for default usage (referred to from the
installation manual, etc) that does not prompt the PXE option and
weighs 918k;
2] win32-loader-pxe.exe for special usage that permits _both_ secure
d-i downloading and PXE installation. This one weighs 1.2M.
So option b) sums up to ~2.1M

c) create two executables:
  1] same as in b), the default secure d-i downloader, 918K;
2] a reduced PXE version, without the d-i downloader part, that
would only be able to install PXE (unknown size yet).

Among those three options, a) and b) are straightforward with the
current code, while c) would imply more work, not done yet. That's
mostly why I picked the b) option, as it doesn't put the PXE prompt in
the default way of users. But c) seems superior, both in terms of size
and in terms of usage.

What do you bug readers think?

Cheers,

OdyX

This is also bringing in java for vlc installs.

Alessio already fixed this on Feb 9 by uploading

As pointed out by Micah, these bugs are indeed two seperate issues, as
659165 is about the -dev package while this talks about the binary
package. I've committed the real fix in our git repository; it will be
part of the next upload.

Bug#660614: add way to quiet Skipping bad line cron spam

2012-02-20 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Package: logtools
Version: 0.13d
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

We're processing several GB of logs daily with clfmerge, thanks for the useful
tool! However one problem: the logs daily contain say one or two truncated
lines which trigger a Skipping bad line warning.

We're really missing a way to ignore this - now we get daily cron spam about
this while it's not a problem. I've implemented attached 'verbose' option,
which only outputs that warning when -v is passed to clfmerge. Would you
be willing to apply it?

(BTW: I encountered some deprecation and lintian warnings while building
the package which you may want to look into.)

thanks,
Thijs

Bug#617314: Yelp keeps spawning new windows

2012-02-20 Thread Markus Enzenberger
I have the same problem on Debian 6.0, Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 11.10. If
I select Help/Show Contents from Gnome Terminal, I get an infinite
number of empty help windows grabbing the focus.

Here is an idea to help tracking down this bug. I believe that the help
menu item in the terminal worked on Debian 6.0 until I installed the
GoGui 1.4.2 software[1], which I am the author of. After that, it did
not work anymore. GoGui has an install shell script that installs an OMF
file to /usr/local/share/omf/gogui/gogui-C.omf and then runs
scrollkeeper-update.

I am not sure if this really triggered the bug because I would have to
reinstall the distribution from scratch to test this theory, but I do
have GoGui installed on all systems listed above and they all have a
broken help system now.

README.Debian should make the users live easier. Sure it's in the man

OK, so I've added a comment in the default minidlna.conf, warning users

More information is here:

This should reduce the commit overhead. Checkpoints still need fsync,
but the are rare. fsync behavior for checkpoints is controlled by
PRAGMA synchronous:

However, setting this would require changing the liferea code.

Bug#660266: Failed to download 1rott13.zip

2012-02-20 Thread Fabian Greffrath

Hi Valentin,

thanks for your bug report.

Am 17.02.2012 20:44, schrieb Valentin Vidic:

Subject: Failed to download 1rott13.zip

yes, it seems 3drealms' ftp server is unreliable again. :(

In the recent rott package, the downloading of the game data in the
postinst script has been removed in favor of using game-data-packager.
So for the moment you may either use the game-data-packager package
from testing or manually patch the SHAREURL2 variable in the
/var/lib/dpkg/info/rott.postinst file to read
http://pkg-games.alioth.debian.org; and then run dpkg-reconfigure rott.

Bug#660199: alsa-tools-gui: hdspmixer displays empty space on the left side after preset, save

2012-02-20 Thread Peter Boehm

hello again,

the bug i reported is also present with the multiface and digiface. it
is related to the window size before saving or recalling presets.

a) if i do not see all the faders in the hdspmixer window because the
window is not broad enough. that means a window with a horizontal
scrollbar. the save and recall of presets shifts the x position of the
faders.

b) if i see all the faders in the hdspmixer window. that means a window
without a horizontal scrollbar the save and recall of presets does not
shift the x position of the faders.

best wishes peter

Bug#656365: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: PressureMotion and/or Coasting messed up

2012-02-20 Thread Erich Schubert
tag 656365 upstream
forwarded 656365 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46330
thanks

Hi,
Followup: apparently a new type of properties was introduced, called cardinals.
These do not (yet) seem to be supported by synclient and xinput.

See this patch proposed in June:
http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-devel/2011-June/023284.html
or in git:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-synaptics/diff/?id2=6269fdaf3283ba4a8051858fc2b43fa102823e96
and
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-synaptics/commit/?id=a24c44375025576dd600ccf370ba365e5d94dc22

Which would explain the error I see in xinput:
Synaptics Pressure Motion (292):... of unknown type CARDINAL
which may just be the meaning of 32 in synclient:
PressureMotionMinZ  = format mismatch (32)

I'm not an expert on X11, but XA_CARDINAL seems to be an integer, so
it should be fairly easy to add support. Or to revert back to
integer as a hotfix.

Regards,
Erich

Hi.

I've just seen that this is already solved in Icinga's version of NRPE:
https://dev.icinga.org/issues/291

although i appreciate the mention, this remains in development and
unless there aren't proper tests as well as other patches resolved, this
won't be released soon.

so solved isn't the correct description. it's feedback time.

Hi,

I just tried with the amd64 kernel and Xen, and I didn't see any issue.

However, it is important that Xen 4.1 + Linux 3.2 works with a 32 bits
kernel, because that is the most optimized configuration (eg: 64 bits
hypervisor, 32 bits kernel and 32 bits userland).

I didn't see any 3.3-rc4 kernel package in Debian. Is it planned to be
uploaded to Experimental or something?

Bug#643470: [pkg-dhcp-devel] Bug#643470: Status of isc-dhcp-client

2012-02-20 Thread peter green

Zumbi: please call off the NMU. I'm now in dialog with the maintainer.

See my other email. Turns out I was grossly generalising, and they're
targeting around the end of the month.

Good to hear there is progress with upstream.

Personally I'd rather see a non-rc buggy version in testing before a new
upstream version (potentially with new rc bugs) is introduced to unstable
but i'll let you make the final call as to whether to upload my work.

How about you just send me a patch against what's in the Git repository (at
head)?
I've forward ported my changes to the head of your git repo. Patch is
attatched.

Note that the patch doesn't contain the repack of the upstream tarball.
(I don't

think diff can represent that). The repacked upstream tarball I prepared is
available from.

http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/i/isc-dhcp/isc-dhcp_4.2.2+dfsg.orig.tar.gz

Unpack the isc-dhcp tarball
Unpack the embedded bind tarball
delete contrib/zkt/doc/rfc5011.txt doc/rfc and doc/draft
Repack the embedded bind tarball
delete the unpacked files from the bind tarball

2012-02-20 Thread Miguel Figueiredo

Hi Dayo,

thanks for testing and for your feedback.
Can you test if this happens to your system only with the netboot method
or if also happens to your system with netinst [1] ?

Can you share the installation log [1] (gzipped please) before you try
other installation ?

1 -
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/6.0.4/i386/iso-cd/debian-6.0.4-i386-netinst.iso

  Yes, it still flickers.

 Thanks.

Could you try patches 1/3 and 2/3 (but _not_ 3/3)
from [1] and see if they fix it?

squeeze's kernel with those two patches still have the same issue,
  unfortunately.

Weird. Just to check: is the kernel from sid or 2.6.37 affected?
(The only packages from outside squeeze you should need in order to
test other than the kernel image are linux-base and initramfs-tools.
Historic kernels can be found at http://snapshot.debian.org/.)

I've re-installed the machine using one lenny instalation (not sure which
version) and there was no flickering. I've then upgraded to squeeze - not sure
which version - using another instalation CD) and the flickering was there.
I've then dist-upgraded and the flickering was still present. So I've done
what you asked in the previous e-mail: picked up the sources from squeeze,
applied twose two patches (but not the third), installed the resulting
linux-image and booted it: the flicker was still present.

I'll try to get some time tomorrow for testing 2.6.37+30 and up from
http://snapshot.debian.org/binary/linux-image-2.6-686/ until I find one that
doesn't flicker, and I'll let you know the results.

Bug#660624: vlc: vlc does not exit after closing GUI if it play video file.

2012-02-20 Thread Oleksandr Gavenko
Package: vlc
Version: 1.1.13-1+b1
Severity: normal

I install vlc from testing to get support for WEBM codec (so have mixed
squeeze/wheezy environment).

If I run vlc on any file after closing it lock terminal and would not quit:

  xterm# vlc my.avi

VLC media player 1.1.3 The Luggage (revision exported)
  Blocked: call to unsetenv(DBUS_ACTIVATION_ADDRESS)
  Blocked: call to unsetenv(DBUS_ACTIVATION_BUS_TYPE)
  Blocked: call to setlocale(6, )
[0x271c190] mkv demux error: cannot load some cues/chapters/tags etc. (broken
seekhead or file)

Then I type ^C in xterm, vlc still lock terminal and print:

^C[0x2733f20] signals interface error: Caught Прерывание signal, exiting...

second ^C kill vlc.

This behaviour was reproduced 100% on video files and was not reproduced on
audio files.

Bug#646221: Uploading openvpn to stable

2012-02-20 Thread Alberto Gonzalez Iniesta
Dear Release Team,

I'd like to upload openvpn to stable in order to fix #646221. This bug
makes the package almost nonfunctional in kfreebsd archs. The patch (in
the bug report) is trivial and it's been already tested in sid and
wheezy.

Please let me know if I should proceed with an upload.

Thanks,

Bug#660585: [Secure-testing-team] Bug#660585: nagios-nrpe-server: again use secure RNG

2012-02-20 Thread Nico Golde
Hi,
* Christoph Anton Mitterer cales...@scientia.net [2012-02-20 10:05]:
I've been just shocked when I went through the patches and saw that one
 removes
the usage of /dev/urandom and replaces it by some week seed.

I'm not sure if I can agree with you here. The fact that before the patch the
code was using urandom doesn't necessarily make it more secure. Actually

Bug#660588: grml-rescueboot: fails to remove, preventing subsequent reinstallation

thanks

* Andreas Beckmann [Mon Feb 20, 2012 at 03:18:44AM +0100]:
 Package: grml-rescueboot
 Version: 0.4.1
 Severity: serious
 User: debian...@lists.debian.org
 Usertags: piuparts

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to remove.

piuparts tests the package in a minimal chroot, so grub can't access the
 boot device.

So, this is a problem of grub and not my package, no?

Now let's remove (but not purge) grml-rescueboot:

   Removing grml-rescueboot ...
Updating grub.cfg to make sure there are no non-existing entries being left.
/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?).
   dpkg: error processing grml-rescueboot (--remove):
subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1
   [FAIL]

What do you expect me to do, running update-grub and ignoring (and
therefore possibly hiding) the error through an exit 0?

Bug#636874: gnome-shell: random characters are missing

2012-02-20 Thread Kevin Steen
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.2.2.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #636874

Workaround which might shed some light: If you use the accessibility applet to
switch Large Text on and then off again, all the top bar text shows normally.
This only works until you log out.

On my system, I have to also toggle High Contrast to get the volume icon and
others to display. At login it only shows the icons when the mouse rolls over
them.

Running latest packages on testing here. Intel display (Dell Dimension 3000)

Bug#660628: fritzing: frequent crashes

2012-02-20 Thread Mark Steverink
Package: fritzing
Version: 0.6.3b+dfsg-3.1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
The program crashes on the second attempt to use 'Save' or 'Save as'. It also
crashes when it is 'saved as' on a new, non-existing file. If the file already
exists, the previous file is overwritten with an empty (0 bytes) file.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
'Save' or 'save as'
   * What was the outcome of this action?
A crash of fritzing, leaving the following in dmesg:
Fritzing[7244]: segfault at 28 ip 0067b1f4 sp 7fffc3076a50 error 4
in Fritzing[40+546000]
Note: 7244 varies from different instances of Fritzing, and is most likely the
proces id. The number between 'sp' and 'error' also varies between instances.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
The save of the file, and to continue working.

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to remove.

piuparts tests the package in a minimal chroot, so grub can't access the
 boot device.

So, this is a problem of grub and not my package, no?

grub and grub-* are successfully tested with piuparts
memtest86* are successfully tested with piuparts
linux-image-* are successfully tested with piuparts

so they handle this issue differently

Now let's remove (but not purge) grml-rescueboot:

   Removing grml-rescueboot ...
Updating grub.cfg to make sure there are no non-existing entries being
 left.

I don't know. How do other packages handle running update-grub? The grub
maintainers might help you there.

Thanks you for reporting this bug, I have build this package with

The autobuilders run sbuild, but pbuilder also supports just building
(and installing build dependencies for) architecture-dependent packages:

   pdebuild -- --binary-arch

   pbuilder --build --binary-arch liblog4ada_*.dsc

 Thanks for checking!

Here are my checks :

I reproduce the problem with :
debuild -- --binary-arch

under a sid environment (without pdflatex from texlive-latex-base ):
a fakeroot debian/rules binary-arch
builds fine and a fakeroot debian/rules binary-indep fails without the
texlive-latex-base package.

My package seems to follow Debian policy [1], and pdflatex is only
called when building -doc package. May be I'm wrong on this point ?

The problem seems very related to bug #521918 to me. Do you think I
should open a bug against pdebuild ? Quite strange the bug #452567 seems
to be the exact opposite of the problem my package have.

Since texlive-latex-base and texlive suite is a quite big suite to
install I'd like your advice before doing any packaging modification
that can lead in a longer build as in #452567 (merging
Build-Depends-Indep in Build-Depends).

Thanks again for your quick answer to my pdebuild related question.

Bug#574235: wims: installation fails due to metafont failure

2012-02-20 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: wims
Version: 4.00-4
Followup-For: Bug #574235

Hi Georges,

I'm reopening this bug because the same issue still exists in squeeze
and wheezy, making the package uninstallable.

From the attached log (there is also a lot of output from the
wims-modules trigger which contains errors that are not fatal, so I'm
not posting them here):

  [...]
  Selecting previously deselected package wims-modules.
  Unpacking wims-modules (from .../wims-modules_4.00-4_all.deb) ...

  Setting up wims-modules (4.00-4) ...

  Selecting previously deselected package wims.

  Unpacking wims (from .../archives/wims_4.00-4_amd64.deb) ...
  Creating wims user.
  Processing triggers for wims-modules ...
  [...]
  Setting up wims (4.00-4) ...
  Rendering fonts, sizes 63 to 173: 63
  kpathsea: Running mktexfmt mf-nowin.base
  /var/lib/wims/public_html/bin/tex..gif: Metafont failed.
  dpkg: error processing wims (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
  Processing triggers for wims-modules ...
  [...]

The fonts issue seems to have reappeared.
As this is an installability problem in squeeze, a stable-update should
be possible.

Hi Luca,

Could you please explain us what's next ?

Package's page is still reporting that an older version - 5.100.82.38-1 - is
present in the archive[1], but the files seem not to be there[2], this would
be interresting for us to know why.

Second, how do we have to proceed in order to make the new package available
for i386 architecture ?
Does my sponsor need to re-upload the current version for amd64 so that the
package could be recompiled by builders ?
Shall I have to increment package version before re-uploading it ?

Thanks for your precious help,

That repository contains a Perl script.

I copied over my most recent ITP, and you are absolutely correct.
Sorry, and thanks for catching this.

I don't see that check in the current version.  I would suggest that by

course there could also be an option for scripts to override this.

The check is implemented within badblocks itself, but I should

Thank you so much for the quick help!

1.2.15 is fine, I wanted to confirm if this old bug was still present

allow other people to test more easily?

Other than that, what I understand from the original reporter is that
the problem is precisely the interaction between SDL and the local X
server, maybe it was an issue with the GPU so it would be difficult to
reproduce. If other people can test with a local X display on PowerPC
please do -- at least so it can be determined whether it works in some
machines, to rule out if it's a general problem of powerpc or not.

Both testoverlay and testoverlay2 work fine on a local X server on a
PowerBook with a Mobility Radeon 9600.

Bug#659920: rss2email incorrectly chooses big5 character encoding

2012-02-20 Thread Etienne Millon
* James Cloos cl...@jhcloos.com [120219 11:45]:
Ahh. It had been so long since I set my current config up, that either
I had forgotten about r2e's config.py or my setup predated CHARSET_LIST...

According to the changelog, it's from 2.61 (2007).

There is little reason to have 8859-* after utf-8; it would never fall
through to it. But having it ahead of utf-8 can have benefit.

Indeed ! I propose the following default :

  CHARSET_LIST='US-ASCII', 'ISO-8859-1', 'UTF-8', 'BIG5', 'ISO-2022-JP'

I am not too familiar with asian encodings, so I can't decide about
the rest.

Having a configuration variable is the most flexible, but there may be
a reliable way to set it depending on the user locale.

I will add this fix to my personal repository in order to prepare an
upload before the freeze.

Have a nice day !

I mean the current situation is IMHO a bit concerning.
- Nagios upstream seems to have abandoned this issue.

- SSL is activated per default in Debian, which is useless anyway and in
the worst case gives a wrong feeling of security.

- Severity of this issue is just important, IMHO it should be grave
(http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities), which would also
notify at least those using apt-listbugs.

- Of course one can argue that you cannot do much of an attack with
NRPE, but people may rely on SSL and think it safe because of it to
enable argument processing in NRPE

Bug#660630: zsh: suspend (^Z) behavior while a function is running is unclear

2012-02-20 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: zsh
Version: 4.3.15-1
Severity: normal

The suspend (^Z) behavior while a function is running is unclear.
The documentation (man pages) should describe the behavior. There
may be a bug in zsh, as some other shells don't behave in the same
way.

Consider:

foo() { emacs $@; d=`date`; echo $d; }

and the following test under X (so that Emacs uses its own window,
or you can try with another X application):

1. Run foo.
2. Type ^Z in the terminal.
3. Type: fg [Return].
4. Quit Emacs.
5. Type: echo $d [Return].

With zsh, the whole function is suspended. The effect is that zsh is
forked (this is not documented, though can be guessed), thus $d will
not be set in the main shell (Step 5: nothing is displayed).

With bash, dash, mksh and pdksh, only the emacs process is suspended.
With ksh93, the ^Z is ignored until Emacs is quit, then the function

Bug#660631: cups-client: Endless loop in cupsaddsmb if used with '-a' switch

2012-02-20 Thread Christian Andretzky
Package: cups-client
Version: 1.4.4-7+squeeze1
Severity: normal
Tags: squeeze patch

The subject says all. If I try to export all cups printers to samba, cupsaddsmb
seems to hang.
Testing this with the -v switch I could see that cupsaddsmb is in an endless
loop because at least
one of the operations (As far as I remember correctly - can not check this in
the moment) could not
be completed.

Starting without the '-a' switch for each printer separately works for me.

The following wrapper script solves the problem for me:

8-
#!/bin/bash

#set -x
set -u

CupsAddSMB=$( which cupsaddsmb )

# no more changes below this line

AskUserData()
{
read -p Please enter username for acessing cupsaddsmb [default:
${USER}]: UserName
if [ -z ${UserName} ]; then
UserName=${USER}
fi
read -s -e -p Please enter password for user ${UserName} to access
cupsaddsmb: Passwd
echo
}

if [ -n ${CupsAddSMB} ]; then
CupsPrinters=( $( lpstat -a | awk '{ print $1 }' | sort -u ) )
if [ ${#CupsPrinters[*]} -gt 0 ]; then
AskUserData
for CupsPrinter in ${CupsPrinters[*]}; do
${CupsAddSMB} -U ${UserName}%${Passwd} ${CupsPrinter}
done
else
echo FATAL: no printers defined in cups, aborted.
exit -1
fi
else
echo FATAL: cupsaddsmb not found, aborted.
exit -1

Hi Alexander.

What do you mean by breaking NRPEs?

https://git.icinga.org/?p=icinga-nrpe.git;a=commit;h=025334c19f252f43c4ae8209ff1eec889908478b

especially,
https://git.icinga.org/?p=icinga-nrpe.git;a=blobdiff;f=src/nrpe.c;h=1618be253465e3201ca0c988e176727f77abf8fa;hp=f5859b7a0c4c0aea7246a75fdf0d4c712106c68a;hb=025334c19f252f43c4ae8209ff1eec889908478b;hpb=b3eacf64ff33198c300f8ae72c77eedc91095093

The other Nagios NRPEs (that could be used on remote host sides) which
still use the fake SSL?

that code is not (yet) compatible. feel free to provide upstream patches
which solve that compatibility breakage problem.

But even if it does... wouldn't that be better? That SSL is just
useless, so admins are better off with disabling it altogether.

the packaged version remains rather useless as the generated dh key
happens on configure. so installing the built binary package isn't that
security aware, though the source install does generate a new dh key
everytime you call configure. by that means, upstream probably does not
see the opportunity to include such patches/changes with high priority.

and with upstream, i do mean the official nagios nrpe project. the
icinga one is just an unofficial fork, trying to collect various
community patches, and if worth the squeeze, release as seperate
version. but this is not yet decided when and where, because there isn't
any official maintainer (within the icinga project).

and icinga nrpe is not in a releasable state.

Just for my personal education :) ... what's the issue about it?

as pointed out previously, read the development tracker, especially the
issues and the roadmap. there's a reason i'm posting those urls.

I mean the current situation is IMHO a bit concerning.
- Nagios upstream seems to have abandoned this issue.

this isn't news for anyone in the nagios space. can you do better than
just telling us?

- SSL is activated per default in Debian, which is useless anyway and in
the worst case gives a wrong feeling of security.

it is not useless anyway. it just contains the same dh key generated
on package build. so each revision will contain at least a different dh
key.
and it is well known to those following bugs and cves that nrpe got
those issues, but the discussion has not yet reached a level where
patches would entirely and not breaking fix that issue.
if you got any better (aka a valuable patch), provide those please
instead of just nagging the package maintainers for things people know
for at least 5 years already. do something about it.

- Severity of this issue is just important, IMHO it should be grave
(http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities), which would also
notify at least those using apt-listbugs.

a package should contain the upstream release source. a package should
mostly not entirely change the mechanism of a transport layer within the
source release, even if this is considered a security flaw. a package
does not mean that the packager him/herself necessary needs to know how
the upstream release is coded and how to fix bugs within them. and a
package means that the package maintainer must decide if userprovided
patches can be seaminglessly integrated into the package, or if he/she
wants to wait for an upstream decision because of the severity of
changes introduced by that patch.

mentioned bug with nrpe and ssl is such a thing and can truly understand
that alex does not want to patch his packages when upstream source
compiled builds behave differently.

i've already put various weekends into the icinga nrpe version and their
patches, but currently i cannot maintain core+cgi+idoutils+mq and things
like nrpe/nsca. that will require code, tests, and community feedback.

- Of course one can argue that you cannot do much of an attack with
NRPE, but people may rely on SSL and think it safe because of it to
enable argument processing in NRPE

you should probably start a discussion on nagios-devel mailinglists,
where the developers of nrpe read and write. that discussion must be
moved upstream, and not into the package space imho.

Cheers,
Chris.

The documentation (man pages) should describe the behavior. There
may be a bug in zsh, as some other shells don't behave in the same
 way.

I've posted the report to the zsh-workers list:

Marco, I'm assuming you already backported the patch libkmod-module:

Could you check if this works for you?

It works.

I restored the old alsa config and I can't reproduce the fork bug with
this patch.

know _old_ disks lost data if you enabled SMART as they would reserve
the first(!) few blocks for SMART storage, but other than that, I
never saw anything in the wild.

Bug#660636: RFP: xonotic -- Xonotic is a free, open source (GPL) ultra-fast, first-person shooter

2012-02-20 Thread thuban
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: xonotic
  Version : 0.5.0
* URL : http://www.xonotic.org/
* License : GPL
Description : Xonotic is a free, open source (GPL) ultra-fast,
first-person shooter

The game is based off the Darkplaces game engine which is originally a
quake modification, though it is now far more advanced over the course
of many years of development. Because of the features of this engine,
Xonotic has incredibly good graphics for an opensource game and is on
par with most commercial games from 2006-2007. The gameplay is of course
slightly inspired by several other games, but it is essentially a unique
mixture of mostly original and different ideas which really makes the
game stand out. It could be considered most similar to Unreal Tournament
and Quake at its heart, especially regarding teamplay and game
mechanics.

Bug#660630: [Pkg-zsh-devel] Bug#660630: zsh: suspend (^Z) behavior while a function is running is unclear

2012-02-20 Thread Axel Beckert
Hi,

just some _opinion_ on this issue.

Vincent Lefevre wrote:
With zsh, the whole function is suspended.

That's actually what I would expect from any shell function I call
from the commandline. Everything else causes undetermined behaviour
and is annoying. (Or said otherwise: Yet another reason to use zsh.
It's a feature, not a bug! :-)

The effect is that zsh is forked (this is not documented, though can
be guessed), thus $d will not be set in the main shell (Step 5:
 nothing is displayed).

That's annoying indeed. Ran into that with another shell, too, IIRC
bash.

With bash, dash, mksh and pdksh, only the emacs process is suspended.

Nevertheless bash and dash definitely differ here with regards to
forking. I remember that I once had a shell script which should set
some variable inside a { } block (no more sure if some function or a
while loop).

While bash started a subshell and couldn't return any variable, dash
didn't and it worked with dash but not bash. (Usually things are the
other way round. :-)

I looked up the POSIX definition and it came out that it is not
defined, if a subshell/fork should be used or not, i.e. if you use
such stuff you get undefined behaviour. Unfortunately.

Regards, Axel

It's probably an issue of packages.d.o, as archive has only the following:
broadcom-sta-dkms | 5.100.82.112-6 | unstable/non-free | amd64
broadcom-sta-common | 5.100.82.112-6 | unstable/non-free | all

broadcom-sta | 5.100.82.112-6 | unstable/non-free | source

Second, how do we have to proceed in order to make the new package available
 for i386 architecture ?
Does my sponsor need to re-upload the current version for amd64 so that the
package could be recompiled by builders ?
Shall I have to increment package version before re-uploading it ?

It's non-free, so as long as it's not in non-free autobuild list (see
[0]), your sponsor has to manually upload binaries for other
architectures. See [1] for further reference.

I still think choice 1 meets users expectations best and is the safest
thing to do. Maybe offer this as an option?

I disagree with choice 1, even though zsh behaves like that for
functions (unlike other shells), so that side effects no longer
affect the current shell when the function has been suspended.
There's at least a documentation problem.

I've reported the following bug about functions:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=660630

On Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 21:46, Richard Hartmann
 richih.mailingl...@gmail.com wrote:
  Hi all,

I am triaging bugs in Debian's BTS [1] and the first two things that are
still valid are (both have been on zsh-workers, the first in 2004, the
  second in 2005):

  2) Unexpected behaviour when stopping a job in a command chain[3]

  Consider this:

echo one sleep 10 echo two

When stopping `sleep 10`, `echo two` will never be executed, no matter in
what way you revive `sleep 10`. That is OK as backgrounding `sleep 10`
will set $? to 20. Yet, with

echo one ; sleep 10 ; echo two

the same thing happens. As Bart pointed out[4]:

Given one two three, if two stops, the shell has three choices:
  (1) pretend the command was { one two three } and suspend the
  entire sublist; or
  (2) pretend that two has returned a status and continue the junction; or
  (3) stop the entire shell until two is resumed.

Choice (1) is undesirable because it subverts the user's intent (if he
meant there to be braces, he should have typed them) and it puts three
into a separate process when it might better have been run in the current
  shell.

This is the kind of problem I've observed with a suspended function.

Choice (3) is impossible in an interactive shell. That leaves
(2), which is what zsh does, using the signal number as the status.

I don't see why (3) is impossible (posh does that or ignore the ^Z,
depending on how it has been started: from another shell or directly
by the terminal). Note that the terminal can be able to send signals
to the process group of the process running under the terminal (for
instance, xterm can do that).

For ^Z, there's also:

(4) ignore the TSTP signal. Or handle it only when it is safe.

Personally, I think 1) would meet most users' expectations,
[...]

Not if there's a side effect, such as setting a variable.
