Bug#679729: [amarok] amarok crashes for unknown reason

2012-07-01 Thread Lorenz Wenner
Package: amarok
Version: 2.5.0-3
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hello, amarok just crashed, while i was listening to some podcast. I did
nothing special, so it is hard for me to reproduce the error in a way other
than by restarting
amarok and waiting. Strangely (but luckily) i could generate some information
about the crash (see below) although i do not have the package amarok-dbg
installed. Hope it
helps. i will also install the package amarok-dbg to be able to commit further
information if it crashes again.

Regards and thank you for developing and/or maintaining my favorite audio player

Unfortunately, I didn't receive a copy.

(I'm unsure if Debian's netiquette says anything about Cc: to
bugno-submit...@bugs.debian.org, but I'd appreciate a copy
anyway.)

That is why I'm closing the bug. Please, feel free to reopen it if
you think the bug is still there, or fill a new bug.

The issue I was reporting (quoted below) is indeed still there.

The ‘x11’ and ‘wxt’ drivers are quite distinct, and one may opt to
install one of them but not other, which is clearly impossible when
they belong to the same package.

The problem is that the gnuplot-x11 package offers both the
‘x11’ and ‘wxt’ packages, and thus has all the dependencies for
both. In some circumstances, I'd like to avoid dependencies on
GTK and Pango, which are brought by the wxWidgets-based driver.

Isn't it possible to build a single /usr/bin/gnuplot binary with
all the relevant support for all the graphical interactive
terminals supported by Debian, and then provide the necessary
lib/gnuplot/ driver binaries in three separate packages
(gnuplot-x11, gnuplot-wxt, gnuplot-qt)?

It would also make the descriptions of the binary packages less
confusing, cf. Christoph Bersch:

I think the current configuration can also confuse users, because
the names suggest, that only X11 and qt are supported as interactive
terminals:

TIA.

I do not think so. We have now: gnuplot-nox, gnuplot-x11 and gnuplot-qt.
Such structure is clear and no need to add one more gnuplot-wxt.
That is my point of view.

Bug#679730: adonthell-data: Byte-compiles for python 2.6, but adonthell actually uses 2.7

2012-07-01 Thread Ben Longbons
Package: adonthell-data
Version: 0.3.4.cvs.20080529+dfsg-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

adonthehell-data depends on python2.6 and generates bytecode for it,
but the adonthell binary actually links to libpython2.7

Other than a slightly slower startup and the extra package being installed,
this is harmless.

Bug#679680: [PATCH] Fix missing unsigned on fetch CAS calls

2012-07-01 Thread Ian Wienand
Hi,

Debian bug #679680 [1] found this issue

In the generalize-small.h template we have

---
#if defined(AO_HAVE_XSIZE_fetch_compare_and_swap_acquire) \
 !defined(AO_HAVE_XSIZE_compare_and_swap_acquire)
  AO_INLINE int
  AO_XSIZE_compare_and_swap_acquire(volatile XCTYPE *addr, XCTYPE old_val,
XCTYPE new_val)
  {
return AO_XSIZE_fetch_compare_and_swap_acquire(addr, old_val, new_val)
 == old_val;
  }
# define AO_HAVE_XSIZE_compare_and_swap_acquire
#endif
---

which matches for ia64; but then it tries to call the fetch CAS with
addr which ia64 defines as

---
AO_INLINE unsigned char
AO_char_fetch_compare_and_swap_acquire(volatile unsigned char *addr,
unsigned char old, unsigned char new_val)

---

I'm pretty sure the unsigned just got left off in the template

Bug#638068: initramfs-tools generates unbootable initrd.img on IA-64

2012-07-01 Thread Adam Conrad
I've committed a fix for #638068 to git.

It doesn't address the fact that klibc/sh appears to not be
good enough to boot ia64 (which is an entirely different
and, I assume, klibc bug), but it should improve the handling
enough to make it at least do as requested for both BUSYBOX=y
and BUSYBOX=n (which should fix ia64, as long as you use =y)

Can someone test out git head and let me know if this works
for you. It looks obviously correct to me, but I can't
readily test it to make sure it DTRT.

Yes, I think that might have been forgotten. I'll add this in for

 Cool, thanks!

 Fixed in git.

The fix will lead to a nasty error message though, namely
rmdir: failed to remove `/lib/init/rw': No such file or directory.

Also I wonder whether pre_mountall is the right place to remove the
directory, considering that it's run by /etc/network/if-up.d/mountnfs as
well.

Cheers,

2012-07-01 Thread Lionel Gamay
Package: gpa
Version: 0.9.0-2
Followup-For: Bug #634930

Dear Maintainer,

I was hoping to really have this bug solved but I upgraded from a working
0.7.0-1.1 old version this 0.9.0-2 and still get the General Assuan Error
that was first described here.

Of course, as usual, reverting once again to the older version solves the
problem.

note that the '.' paragraph separation has an extra space ' .'

Bug#540406: the wxt driver deserves its own package

2012-07-01 Thread Ivan Shmakov
 Anton Gladky gladky.an...@gmail.com writes:
 2012/7/1 Ivan Shmakov oneing...@gmail.com:

Isn't it possible to build a single /usr/bin/gnuplot binary with all
the relevant support for all the graphical interactive terminals
supported by Debian, and then provide the necessary lib/gnuplot/
driver binaries in three separate packages (gnuplot-x11,
  gnuplot-wxt, gnuplot-qt)?

  I do not think so.

As I've just checked, while the ‘x11’ and ‘qt’ drivers are
provided as external binaries (under lib/gnuplot/), the ‘wxt’
one is apparently compiled into the main gnuplot binary itself.

If I'm right in my guess that the library dependencies of the
latter on the Qt libraries are superfluous (I hope to check it
the next week), then that may be one more reason to keep the
‘wxt’ driver separate.

Should my assumptions be right, I'd suggest the binary packages
to be as follows:

gnuplot

provides /usr/bin/gnuplot compiled /with/ wxWidgets;

gnuplot-nox (or gnuplot-nowx?)

provides /usr/bin/gnuplot compiled /without/ wxWidgets;

gnuplot-x11

provides gnuplot_x11 only; Depends: gnuplot | gnuplot-nox;

gnuplot-qt

provides gnuplot_qt only; Depends: gnuplot | gnuplot-nox.

Also, the layout above could reduce the package sizes somewhat,
as there would only be two (instead of three) packages holding
all the share/ stuff.

Alternatively, share/ could be split off to a single
gnuplot-common instead.

We have now: gnuplot-nox, gnuplot-x11 and gnuplot-qt. Such structure
is clear and no need to add one more gnuplot-wxt. That is my point
  of view.

First of all, I do not contest the clarity.

Second, the present state of affairs is that the user isn't
allowed to install the ‘x11’ driver without also installing
libwxgtk2.8-0, like:

# apt-get install -V -- gnuplot-x11 libwxgtk2.8-0-
Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gnuplot-x11 : Depends: libwxgtk2.8-0 (= 2.8.12.1) but it is not going to be
installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
#

While I believe that the ‘x11’ driver /per se/ is (still)
perfectly usable without wxWidgets.

Bug#679733: perl-depends: package description review

Package: perl-depends

I noticed this package has two minor typos close together in its
description. Reading the rest I see the content is basically fine,
but there are a few other minor language issues, so here's a general
rewrite.

Description: roughly find out module depends from a perl file

Informative, but it's a verb phrase; DevRef recommends that packages
should have noun-phrase-based synopses.

Also, depends from is unidiomatic (except perhaps as Debian jargon),
and Perl should be capitalised (unless it's talking about
/usr/bin/perl).

Find out roughly the modules the program uses. This is based on the

I'll keep this second use of roughly, but the third one at the end
of the paragraph is just too repetitive.

Two typos and an excess roughly.

There's no need for this use of the passive voice (with a by

Actually I am not very willing to apply random patch without upstream

2012-07-01 Thread Stefano Rivera
Hi Vincent (2012.06.29_21:38:36_+0200)
Or copy pip/distribute/setuptools from the system? Or link it?

Not that simple. pip is currently installed with easy_install,
installing it from the installed version on the system would require
manually installing all the necessary files, and re-writing the shebang.

Patching the tarball in the source, or patching the installed file
programmatically from virtualenv, is probably the way to go.

Carl: Why did you use a sub-RC severity? I think virtualenv users would
consider this RC.

The package spandsp has failed to build on some architectures. This is due

As Upstream does not consider this a bug, the simple fix is to disable
running the tests in parallel. A patch is included in SVN.

Bug#679737: Handshake packets which span multiple records cause TLS handshake failure

2012-07-01 Thread Janne Snabb
Package: gnutls28
Version: 3.0.19-2

GnuTLS 3.0.19 has a bug which causes a TLS handshake failure if a
handshake packet needs to be fragmented (if a packet is larger than 16
kB). This bug is fixed in 3.0.20 which is available in Debian sid. I
am filing this bug report because I think this bug should be fixed in
debian wheezy release (it has currently 3.0.19).

The Debian package ca-certificates includes so many CA certificates
that if used together with GnuTLS 3.0.19 with all CA's enabled (the
default), it will always produce a failed TLS handshake.

The error message is: Fatal error: A TLS packet with unexpected length
was received.

See the following for a discussion of the details, how to repeat, etc.
of this bug:

http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.network.gnutls.general/2789

See the following for 3.0.20 release notes:

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.encryption.gpg.gnutls.devel/6162

The specific commit which fixes this bug is here:

IMHO it would be good to get 3.0.20 in wheezy before the release.

Sometimes GTK3 windows are displayed as 'out of focus' while they're not. Here
are some examples:

Copy status text is gray while the window is in focus

No channel withing Empathy is in focus while there is one in focus

With one channel in Empathy only the focus behaves normally

Bug#679073: texlive-base: failed during dist-upgrade (/usr/bin/fmtutil: Segmentation fault)

2012-07-01 Thread pepesz
Hello,

I tried to install v2012.20120628-1 but dependencies forces to many other
packages to be changed to 'unstable' and I cannot do that.
Therefore I decided to upgrade texlive-base(2009) using 'testing' which
upgrades also luatex tex-common texlive-base texlive-binaries
texlive-common texlive-doc-base (and some others) to 2012.20120516. This
ended up with success so the problem was solved somewhere in between. If
you need me to do some more test, let me know.
Thanks for all your help,
Lukasz

Bug#679742: Depends on non-existing libdb4.8

2012-07-01 Thread Ondřej Surý
Package: 389-ds-base-dev
Version: 389-ds-base-dev/1.2.11.7-1
Severity: serious

The hard-coded dependency on lidb4.8 is wrong, since there is no
lidb4.8 package in the archive, and now your package depends on
lidb4.8 and libdb5.1.

That probably applies to all other libsomething hard coded
dependencies in your package. Also your -dev package probably misses
the -dev dependencies (in case they are needed - that depends on the
symbols exported from the library and headers used - you should test
that before blindly adding all -dev packages to Depends: field).

You should not hard-code such dependencies (unless you need a specific
version), but let the dpkg-shlibs handle it (that's the
${shlibs:Depends} field).

Snippet from debian/control file:

Pre-Depends: ${misc:Pre-Depends}
Depends: ${misc:Depends}, ${shlibs:Depends},

Dear Paul,

Than you for your patch.

I am not sure what is meant by overriding the urgency. The Release team can
directly control the migration time for a package, but this is not exactly done
by replacing the urgency by another value, nor by ignoring it altogether. See
http://release.debian.org/britney/hints/README

Perhaps your patch would gain by being a bit more precise. Also, the urgency
might
be used for other purposes than the transitions to Testing (like determining
the priority for autobuilding ?)

By thw way, is the sentence Those delays may be doubled during a freeze still
acccurate ? Otherwise, this bug may be the opportunity to remove it.

Have a nice Sunday,

Bug#679746: default --system home directory leads to piuparts RC bugs

2012-07-01 Thread Marc Haber
Package: adduser
Version: 3.113+nmu3
Severity: serious

Hi,

I am really sorry having to file this.

When a package uses adduser --system without explicitly specifying the
home directory of the new user, its home directory gets set to
/home/$USER. Debian QA thinks that this is a policy violation and
supports this by bending FHS
http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/fhs/fhs-2.3.html#HOMEUSERHOMEDIRECTORIES
which says:

/home : User home directories (optional)
/home is a fairly standard concept, but it is clearly a site-specific
filesystem. The setup will differ from host to host. Therefore, no
program should rely on this location.

Thus, packages using adduser --system and relying on adduser doing the
right thing will get a piuparts-based RC bug in no time. Adduser
should change its default behavior to something that QA will accept.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#679748: RM: ia32-libs [ia64] -- RoM; ANAIS; No longer supported by kernel

2012-07-01 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Some time ago the linux kernel on ia64 dropped support for running
32bit i386 code. This made ia32-libs on ia64 obsolete and the latest
version of ia32-libs no longer includes ia64 in its architecture list.

Please remove ia32-libs on ia64.

For the ia32-libs-team,
Goswin

Bug#621833: System users: removing them

2012-07-01 Thread Marc Haber

I'm currently using this logic (in postinst)

  adduser --system --quiet --home /var/lib/sbuild --no-create-home \
--shell /bin/bash --ingroup sbuild --gecos Debian source builder
 sbuild
  fi

However, consider that if the account is locked, the user already
exists and no unlocking will occur, leaving the reinstalled
package broken. This logic is common to many packages.

That's a bug in a lot of packages, yes. adduser has been designed to
allow adduser --system to be called without that logic:

If called with one non-option argument and the --system option, adduser
will add a system user. If a user with the same name already exists in
the system uid range (or, if the uid is specified, if a user with that
uid already exists), adduser will exit with a warning. This warning can
   be suppressed by adding --quiet.

So, just remove the extra getent passwd check and you should be fine.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#621833: System users: removing them

On Sun, May 29, 2011 at 08:32:21PM +0100, Roger Leigh wrote:
We could add special behaviour to adduser to unlock the account
if it already exists when run in the postinst.

Yes, that would be the way to go for adduser --system

However, most postinsts wrap the call to adduser with a check for
whether the account already exists, so it would not be called
without an update to every preinst employing this strategy.

Yes, packages having used that approached are buggy in the first place.

It would also alter the existing behaviour of adduser, which is to
return nonzero if the user already exists, which could cause
   breakage.

NACK, adduser --system does return zero if the user already exists and
its parameters are sufficiently similiar to the parameters requested
by the maintainer script.

I dislike the fact that the behaviour of adduser and deluser would,
in effect, /not/ add or delete users as intended, which is rather
counter-intuitive. Providing that we have consensus on a recommended
strategy for locking and unlocking accounts which can go into policy,
I think all we need are examples for how maintainer scripts are
expected to handle account creation and locking/unlocking.

NACK, don't put the same logic into a hundred maintainer scripts where
they'll have two hundred different bugs. Put the logic into a central
place where bugs can be handled centrally.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#621833: System user handling in packages: status of discussion

 * To create an user, a maintainer script should call
adduser --system foo. It is not necessary to wrap this in
a check for whether the user exists.

It would be a bug to do so. Add --quiet to the adduser call if you
don't want to show the resulting warning to your users, but I'd
recommend to leave the warning active.

 * When the package is removed, the user should be locked:
   lockuser foo.
 * lockuser is a still-hypothetical tool, which needs to be added
to the adduser package. It is a wrapper around usermod -L -e 1 foo.
 * Similarly, adduser needs to be changed to unlock:
   usermod -U -e '' foo.

Why not extending deluser to not delete the user if it is a system
account?

Unclear to me are the following two points:

 * Should packages also remove the contents of the system account's
   home directory?

No, the local admin might have put important additional data in there.
It may be an idea to remove all files that the _package_ has put
there, but that would be a _significant_ burden IMO.

Should this be done upon package remove or purge?

Purge, of course. When you remove and reinstall, you should be exactly
where you were before.

 * Is there consensus that adduser should get a --local option,
and if so, what should its semantics be, and should packages
start using it now? Or can this wait until there's an actual
need for --local, so that the precise semantics can be defined?
There's a fairly few packages that create users, so we should
be able to deal with them fairly easily later.

Actually --system was meant for that.

Greetings
Marc, who has for quite some time taken care of adduser but has lost
touch to the package recently

Bug#621833: What about userdel?

Marc,
I inherited it. I had the feeling things were going to be clarified so
I was waiting on that clarification. Also if I recall I was trying to
raise the issue that half the issue was missed.

Bug#679751: please clarify package account and home directory location in policy

2012-07-01 Thread Marc Haber
Package: debian-policy
Severity: normal

Hi,

many packages have to create system accounts on installation.
Unfortunately, Debian policy is not quite clear on how to handle
these. On the other hand, Debian QA is keen on addressing issues in
account handling, which frequently leads to discussions about how to
handle things like that, resulting in maintainer time being wasted to
make unncessary changes to a package that could have been done right
in the first place.

#621833 has a lengthy discussion about what happens to an account on
package removal / purge, but other things are stil open and
unaddressed by Policy.

I won't address the old user name (package versus Dpackage versus
Debian-package versus debian-package) issue here since the discussions
about that have died down in the last years and one gets away pretty
well with Debian-package.

But I need to address the where to put a users' home dir issue.
Recently, QA has filed quite some bugs about system users' home dirs
not being allowed in /home, (mis)interpreting the FHS (chapter /home)
at this point, saying

/home : User home directories (optional)
/home is a fairly standard concept, but it is clearly a site-specific
filesystem. [9] The setup will differ from host to host. Therefore, no
program should rely on this location.

Unfortunately, Policy is not clear on where a system accounts' home
directory is to be placed. Thus, a maintainer trying to fix the bug
that a home directory was placed *gasp* in /home is risking to do it
wrong again when choosing between /etc/package(/home) and
/var/(lib|cache|spool)/package(/home).

In quite a few packages, the system user's home directory might
accumulate dotfiles and/or ssh (keys|known_hosts) files, so this
decision is not quite easy to take.

I would love to have policy clearly say where a system users' home
directory is to be placed. This saves a lot of maintainer time and
grief with QA actions. If this were clearly laid out in Policy, QA
would also be saved from discussions with grumpy maintainers like me,
since they would have a clear reference to cite without having to bend
FHS.

Sorry, but I cannot suggest Policy language since I don't know how do
to things right and I still believe that /home is a valid place for
home directories.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#679727: RM: netapplet/1.0.8 -- ROM

2012-07-01 Thread Adam D. Barratt
Hi,

The same upstream version of netapplet is in stable, testing and
unstable and you didn't specify where you were asking for its removal
from; I've assumed testing.

On Sun, 2012-07-01 at 00:23 -0500, Rudy Godoy wrote:

Currently there are better options and the package lacks of upstream.
I've orphaned it before since I cannot commit to act both as upstream
and maintainer for a stable release, despite better options exist now
 for the GNOME desktop.

On that basis, would it better to remove the package from unstable,
rather than just testing?

Bug#551555: mountnfs.sh: start should declare dependency on name resolver

Not that I'm aware of.

There are other NFS issues outstanding as well, which could really use
the attention of an NFS expert.

NFS mounting a separate /usr is IMO not something we should support,
given that it makes no sense (just mount the rootfs on NFS directly).
If we were to relax this existing constraint, would that make the
dependencies any easier to fix?

Actually surely a good first step, perhaps even before fixing policy,
would be to get some sort of experimental check in lintian for any sort
of attempt to delete a system user in a maintenance script. Then we
could get a handle on how big the problem is.

Bug#679752: dovecot-core: Initialization failed: Duplicate namespace prefix

2012-07-01 Thread Graham Cobb
Package: dovecot-core
Version: 1:2.1.7-2
Severity: normal

I upgraded dovecot on my wheezy system from 1:2.0.18-1 to 1:2.1.7-2. This
broke my namespace configuration and dovecot stopped working.

I have the following configuration information in a file called
/etc/dovecot/conf.d/50-grc.conf:

namespace {
  hidden = no
  inbox = no
  location = maildir:~/dovecot
  prefix =
  separator = /
  type = private
}

Previously this worked fine to override the standard config in 10-mail.conf.
However, after the upgrade, this gave the following errors, for every user:

Error: user cobb: Initialization failed: namespace configuration error:
Duplicate namespace prefix:
Error: Invalid user settings. Refer to server log for more information.

I had to edit the file 10-mail.conf to comment out the namespace inbox
section. This need to edit a conffile defeats the object of having a
configuration directory with ordered entries -- it should be possible to
override the distributed settings!

2012-07-01 Thread Martin Dickopp
Package: emacs24-common
Version: 24.1+1-1
Severity: normal

The prime number test in calc results in an error if the tested number is
large. It works fine for small numbers.

Steps to reproduce:

- Start calc (M-x calc RET)
- Enter the number 123456789 (123456789 RET)
- Perform prime number test (k p)

Expected result: The message Non-prime (or something similar) is
displayed.

Actual result: The message Wrong type argument: listp, 123456789 is
displayed.

If small numbers are tested, calc behaves as expected. E.g. typing
123 k p displays the message Non-prime.

If you choose to run sa-update before starting spamd, that's fine, and
not a bad idea if your host reboots frequently. Since sa-update
potentially takes some time (especially if sa-compile is used), running
it on every reboot could have an undesirable impact on boot time.
Additionally, since spamd is typically run on mail servers, which don't

This might be reclassified a security issue!

Since sa-update is optional and is never run automatically by default,
you'll have a hard time convincing me that not running it at boot time
 is a security issue.

I don't plan on making the requested change. However, if somebody

I see the point.

Might better be a configuration option, possibly cron-job.

OK, that's more serious then. I'll see what I can do.

Hello,

I'm getting a bit nervous due to the fact that the wheezy freeze is
approaching, that I'm still stuck on an outdated kernel (3.1), with all
the security and supportability implications, and I don't have the
impression that anything is happening to resolve the issue.

Is there anything I can do to help make this bug disappear before the
release of wheezy?

As you can guess from the control orders, I've tried successfully to
reproduce the bug on all versions of the kernel I could find.

Thanks, Eric

Bug#679756: migemo-el: fails to upgrade from 'squeeze' - trying to overwrite /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/migemo/migemo.el

Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from
'squeeze'.
It installed fine in 'squeeze', then the upgrade to 'sid' fails
because it tries to overwrite files that are owned by other packages
without declaring a Breaks/Replaces relation.

See policy 7.6 at
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#s-replaces

This problem is exposed during the upgrade of the 'migemo'
package, not by upgrading only the buggy package itself.
In order to have piuparts automatically track this problem, I'll mark
this bug as Affects/Found in the exposing package(s), too.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

This certainly should be fixed either with dependency or by replacing sudo

I think postinst script should be rewritten in some other aspects too. So do

Can you set up an aufs overlay by hand on the host without

IIRC someone mentioned that aufs wasn't working properly, but
I don't use it myself, and I don't have it set up on my

 Dear Maintainer,

* What led up to the situation?
Using nouveau with multiple monitors (although I don't think that it is
 related
 to that)

Text very frequently gets corrupted, but images, video and 3d are not
 affected.
This mostly occurs when using iceweasel and gnome-terminal, but evolution is
 also affected.

Try the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in unstable.

Cheers,

Hi,

thanks for the report. Do you sync over bluetooth? If yes, it would be
nice to mention in the changelog that the fix is bluetooth related.

Feel free to upload an NMU version. I'm not a DD so I would submit the

Bug#678443: Hard lockups due to lockup-detector (NMIs) on multi-Pentium-3 SMP systems on all kernel builds since 2.6.38

2012-07-01 Thread Hans-Juergen Mauser

Hello,

currently the system starts reaching an amount of uptime that was hardly
possible before setting nowatchdog:

netfinity5000:~# uptime
 13:43:12 up 10 days, 20:43, 2 users, load average: 0,01, 0,08, 0,07

When we reach 14 days or more, we know that it's really the watchdog/NMI
feature causing these SMP systems to lock up intermittently but quite
deterministic after an uptime of 1 to 8 days.

To avoid any side-effects while testing, I did not change anything on
the system except this kernel boot parameter after the last lockup those
10 days ago. No software updates, no additional change to the kernel
(this means the current kernel produced at least one successful lockup
as I had tried various configurations and versions before the hint to
the NMI/watchdog issue gained my full attention).

After having me frustrated for months, I have quite a detailed
impression of this misbehaviour and nothing ever made me feel that
confident in restored reliability than setting this boot parameter.

Here is my current interrupt state:

netfinity5000:~# cat /proc/interrupts

It isn't solved, so I wouldn't release. I jyst updated the computer, tested

and the error persists, when logging into msn, it crashes.

BTW I downgraded to .1 and the problem exists there as well.

2012-07-01 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: notion
Version: 3+2012042300-1
Severity: important
User: debian...@lists.debian.org

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package left unowned files on
the system after purge, which is a violation of policy 6.8 (or 10.8):

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-removedetails

Filing this as important as having a piuparts clean archive is a release
goal since lenny.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

0m24.2s ERROR: FAIL: Package purging left files on system:
  /etc/X11/notion/ owned by: notion

Thanks for the quick reply. Though this is turning into a bit of a
problem for me. Context: my company (http://www.microlinux.fr) provides
100 % GNU/Linux and FOSS solutions for professional users like small
town halls, public libraries, private schools, small and medium
companies, etc. All the solutions - server as well as desktop - are
Debian-based, e. g. stable with a handful of backports. So far, this is
the first really annoying bug, since the secretary of a private school
where I installed it pointed it out to me, and I couldn't help her out.

Right now I'm giving Libre Office from backports a spin, but the last
time I checked it out - 3.4.something on Slackware, I was mostly
impressed by the myriad of bugs.

If there's an easy fix to this, it would come highly appreciated.

Cheers from the rainy South of France,

Niki Kovacs

2012-07-01 Thread Bastian Blank
Package: puppetmaster
Version: 2.7.14-1

The included CA still only displays MD5 fingerprints of certificates.
MD5 is not longer save against collision attacks. So a rogue client is
able to use a collision attack to get a certificate for the puppet
master and overtake the clients.
