Bug#681387: unblock: resiprocate (follow up)
Hi Cyril, Killian made the upload and a month has passed... do you think it is now OK to unblock? The packages run on various production servers already. If you need extra evidence of testing, there was a live demo of installing this package on the FreeSWITCH webcast/weekly call (also showing off the convenience of Debian and wheezy to a new audience): http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Weekly_Conference_Call#Past_Calls Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist in evaluating this unblock request. I attach a debdiff and SVN log output (1.8.4 vs. 1.8.5) Anyway, please upload 1.8.5 to unstable ASAP, we'll see in a month or so what happened. Agreed - that is how most of the fixes came into 1.8.5 - e.g. one user found that the --help output was crashing the program None of these issues are strictly release critical - but they are all fixes that provide a better experience of the package. The diff is indeed large for a --help crasher fix… No promise on our (possibly) unblocking this package after the said period of time. However, your reply somewhat puzzles me. I thought that ftp.debian-ports.org was an official Debian Project service for unsupported architectures: http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian/pool-m68k/main/g/gmsh/ includes http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian/pool-m68k/main/g/gmsh/gmsh_2.3.0.dfsg-1_m68k.deb That's why I claimed that the Debian Project is still distributing gmsh/2.3.0.dfsg-1 built for the m68k architecture... Thanks David, so you are going to send me a bulk update of them all? Yes, hopefully in a few days. Probably something that is waaay beyond the scope of this bug, but has the translation group considered using a rsync spot like tp.org does? I recently noticed an old feature request of this kind: #105337. That means when I am about to release a package I just do something like rsync -Lrtvz translationproject.org::tp/latest/DOMAIN/ po and all of the latest .po files are in my directory. Some automatic tests for the accuracy of the PO files when translators submit them are quite neat too. I don't know how hard that is to do, but its easy from the maintainers' side. Given the bad LP/Rosetta experience, I'm not sure a lot of people are interested by such a feature (on the contrary), but I may be wrong. Bug#686312: kdbg can't start app
It went away shortly after I reported the bug - now it's back. I'm using Debian/Sid and keep my packages current daily so I think one update fixed it and then another one broke it again. I now wish I had reported it as fixed so that the problem package(s) could have been pinned down more easily. I'm pretty sure that a package caused (then fixed, then caused) this problem. Bug#617931: gmsh: multiple licensing issues
On Thu, 2012-09-20 at 00:47 +0200, Francesco Poli wrote: On Wed, 19 Sep 2012 23:19:07 +0100 Adam D. Barratt wrote: On Tue, 2012-09-18 at 19:48 +0200, Francesco Poli wrote: I think that this part of the issue will be relevant for the m68k architecture, as long as gmsh is still distributed for that unofficial architecture. Something that is *not* legally distributable does *not* magically become distributable, just because the architecture is not officially supported by the Debian Project... m68k is not just unofficial or not officially supported. It's not been part of Debian, nor hosted on debian.org systems, since sarge was archived. Debian is not distributing any packages on m68k and what others might be doing on that architecture is not relevant to RC bugs in Debian. [...] I thought that ftp.debian-ports.org was an official Debian Project service for unsupported architectures: http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian/pool-m68k/main/g/gmsh/ includes http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian/pool-m68k/main/g/gmsh/gmsh_2.3.0.dfsg-1_m68k.deb I'm not arguing that the package isn't on debian-ports. I'm arguing that said fact is irrelevant in the context of this bug report. That's why I claimed that the Debian Project is still distributing gmsh/2.3.0.dfsg-1 built for the m68k architecture... To the best of my knowledge, debian-ports is not a Debian project service. It's run by a Debian Developer but that's not quite the same. I assume there's a reason that it's still debian-ports.org (on a .debian.net machine) and not X.debian.org. I'm happy to be corrected though. In any case, that's beside the point. The Debian BTS exists to track the status of bugs in the official Debian archive, as defined by ftp-master. Bugs in packages on backports.d.o, security.d.o or debian-ports are not tracked there (there's a reasonable argument that at least some of them should be, but the fact is that they're not). The BTS is also perfectly capable of tracking where within the official archive a bug has been resolved - even if m68k were still hosted on ftp-master, once the bug had been closed by the upload of an updated package then the next relevant action would be to ensure that the package were either built or removed on m68k. Neither of those courses of action requires the bug to be re-opened, nor would doing so be appropriate. Similarly, if the bug exist(s|ed) in stable, there'd be no need to re-open the bug as the BTS would already be aware that stable still contained the issue. Bug#681622: Update
It has now been more than a year since kernel.org was compromised. The homepage still does not work. The format of Vcs-Bzr was recently standardized, although not in detail. Policy now says this: Vcs-Arch, Vcs-Bzr (Bazaar), Vcs-Cvs, Vcs-Darcs, Vcs-Git, Vcs-Hg (Mercurial), Vcs-Mtn (Monotone), Vcs-Svn (Subversion) The field name identifies the VCS. The field's value uses the version control system's conventional syntax for describing repository locations and should be sufficient to locate the repository used for packaging. Ideally, it also locates the branch used for development of new versions of the Debian package. In the case of Git, the value consists of a URL, optionally followed by the word -b and the name of a branch in the indicated repository, following the syntax of the git clone command. If no branch is specified, the packaging should be on the default branch. More than one different VCS may be specified for the same package. I do not know Bzr but I believe that the Vcs-Bzr value of pcmciautils is valid. This means the problem is on the PTS. There is a similar bug reported for Vcs-CVS: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=561228 I hope someone will review the situation for all the fields above.
Bug#648220: Re-implementing use of $HOME/.dmrc
While testing wheezy, I noticed that ~/.dmrc is not used anymore; and that my selection of session was not remembered. (I did not have any success with the suggestion in comment#20.) I need session selection in ~/.dmrc, so users get the same session on any of our servers that share home directories via NFS. I re-implemented the session selection functionality of ~/.dmrc by adding a couple of lines of code to /etc/gdm3/Xsession (attached). It is like 4 months that we're trying to get 8 languages with complete debconf localization in wheezy and that will be broken by this, if this package enters testing. You have an outstanding call for translations for the changes that modified these debconf templates. Please wait for it to complete and make sure that you get a full update for: Czech (cs), Danish (da), German (de), Spanish (es), French (fr), Portuguese (pt), Russian (ru), Swedish (sv). Then please upload and I won't object anymore to an unblock. I appreciate the effort you have put up to now in maintaining this package in an l10n-friendly way so I think we can easily reach an agreement. I can for instance make sure you get these 8 needed updates (among others probably). I can even shake the late comers (there will be some). I'm not a member of the release team, so their decision may be different from my suggestion, though. I hope it will not..:-) Many thanks in advance for considering my objection, still..:-) signature.asc Description: Digital signature
