Bug#939145: blender Version:2.80+dfsg-3 CPU opencl not working in combo with video card

2019-09-06 Thread Leo L. Schwab
Package: blender
Version: 2.80+dfsg-3+b1
Followup-For: Bug #939145

Dear Maintainer,

This may be related: When attempting to enable OpenCL in the
preferences, a small panel appears claiming: "No compatible GPUs found
for path tracing. Cycles will render on the CPU."

I have an NVIDIA GTX-1070Ti with proprietary DKMS drivers
installed, version 430.40.  I also have Darktable installed;
`darktable-cltest` runs successfully, and (in part) outputs the
following info:

```
[opencl_init] device 0: GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
 GLOBAL_MEM_SIZE:  8116MB
 MAX_WORK_GROUP_SIZE:  1024
 MAX_WORK_ITEM_DIMENSIONS: 3
 MAX_WORK_ITEM_SIZES:  [ 1024 1024 64 ]
 DRIVER_VERSION:   430.40
 DEVICE_VERSION:   OpenCL 1.2 CUDA
```

Hope this helps.

These are bugs which have existed for a long time, but they only showed
up in mime-support 3.63 because older versions did not use warnings.

To fix those warnings, I have submitted a merge request at
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/mime-support/merge_requests/3.

Bug#880154: python-turbogears2: please provide Python3 module

Raising severity as we need to assess and draw a path forward for tg

currently:
* upstream claims https://github.com/TurboGears/tg2/ compatibility
with python3.7
* python-turbogears2 has no reverse dependencies
* it has quite low popcon of 16
* we are actually shipping version 2.3.7, that was released in October 2015 (!)

Here i see only 2 ways:

* remove turbogears2 (let's face it, it _lost_ the web frameworks
battle; back in the days you could hear people talking about tg,
nowadays, iet's either django or flask..)
* move tg to python3.

given the relative low interest for tg in debian (see popcon) it's
probably easier to just remove it, but i would not be against
upgrading it to the latest version and provide *only* the python3
package, if this is done in the next few weeks.

I'll follow up in a week if i dont hear anything back.

Thanks,
Sandro

Hi Mechtilde,

I am not able to reproduce your build failure. bnd builds correctly for
me both via pbuilder in a cowbuilder chroot and sbuild. I think you
have an issue with your pbuilder configuration not correctly installing
build dependencies. What is the value of PBUILDERSATISFYDEPENDSCMD in
your ~/.pbuilderrc?

To prove to yourself that the problem is not with the bnd source
package, you can do the following:

- use `sudo cowbuilder --login` to enter your chroot shell
- configure a deb-src URL in /etc/apt/sources.list
- `apt update && apt source bnd && apt -y build-dep bnd`
- `cd bnd-3.5.0 && dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc`

If you continue to have troubles with the build, please send me the
contents of your .pbuilderrc and the complete build logs and I'll see if
I can help debug the issue.

Cheers,
tony

thanks for your report, but i dont believe it warrants an RC severity,

Bug#939628: should archipel-* packages be removed from Debian?

2019-09-06 Thread Sandro Tosi
Package: src:archipel-core
Severity: serious

Hello,
Debian is trying to remove Python 2 from the distribution
(https://wiki.debian.org/Python/2Removal) and i stumbled across archipel.

It looks like this project is no longer maintained upstream:

* https://github.com/ArchipelProject/Archipel latest commit is more than 3 years
  ago
* the homepage http://archipelproject.org/ returns an error from cloudflare and
the wayback machine can find an actual page only back in April 2018
* the mailing list https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/archipelproject has
no new post (execpt to report the website down) since early 2016

Here below is a recapt of the status of the archipel packages:

package last-upload popcon
archipel-core 2013-05-0547
archipel-agent-action-scheduler 2013-05-0512
archipel-agent-hypervisor-geolocalization 2013-05-05 7
archipel-agent-hypervisor-health2013-05-0510
archipel-agent-hypervisor-network 2013-05-0514
archipel-agent-hypervisor-platformrequest 2013-05-0510
archipel-agent-iphone-notification 2013-05-0517
archipel-agent-virtualmachine-oomkiller 2013-05-0512
archipel-agent-virtualmachine-snapshoting 2013-05-0513
archipel-agent-vmcasting2013-05-05 9
archipel-agent-vmparking2013-05-05 9
archipel-agent-xmppserver 2013-05-0510
archipel-agent-virtualmachine-vnc 2013-05-0513

It is my belief we should remove archipel* packages from Debian, in particular
because they are a close-set of packages, and they could ideally allow other
python2 packages to be removed (as archipel* will disappear as their
reverse-dependencies).

If i dont hear back in a week, i'll file RM bugs for all the aforementioned
packages.

Regards,
Sandro

Bug#939627: mrtrix3: Qt4 removal from Buster

Hi! As you might know we the Qt/KDE team are preparing to remove Qt4
as announced in:

[announced]

Currently Qt4 has been dead upstream and we are starting to have problems
maintaining it, like for example in the [OpenSSL 1.1 support] case.

[OpenSSL 1.1 support]

In order to make this move, all packages directly or indirectly depending on
the Qt4 libraries have to either get ported to Qt5 or eventually get
removed from the Debian repositories.

Therefore, please take the time and:
- contact your upstream (if existing) and ask about the state of a Qt5
port of your application
- if there are no activities regarding porting, investigate whether there are
suitable alternatives for your users
- if there is a Qt5 port that is not yet packaged, consider packaging it
- if both the Qt4 and the Qt5 versions already coexist in the Debian
archives, consider removing the Qt4 version

= Porting =

Some of us where involved in various Qt4 to Qt5 migrations [migration] and we
know for sure that porting stuff from Qt4 to Qt5 is much much easier and less
painful than it was from Qt3 to Qt4.

We also understand that there is still a lot of software still using Qt4.

Don't forget to take a look at the C++ API changes page [apichanges] whenever
you start porting your application.

[migration] http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/packagingqtbasedstuff.html
[apichanges] http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/sourcebreaks.html

For any questions and issues, do not hesitate to contact the Debian Qt/KDE

port of your application

For internal code organisation reasons it ended up being easier to add a
new "man-recode" tool instead.

Could you please try the tmp/recode-tool branch of
https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/man-db.git ? To build it, something
like this should work:

  sudo apt build-dep man-db
  ./bootstrap
  ./configure --prefix=/usr --libexecdir=\${libdir}
--with-config-file=/etc/manpath.config --enable-mb-groff --enable-silent-rules
--with-db=gdbm
  make -j4
  make -j4 check

You should then be able to run src/man-recode.

Initial performance testing from my end: to convert all the pages in
manpages-pl to UTF-8, it takes about 0.6 seconds. This is cheating
slightly because it takes a short cut in the case where the pages
already appear to be in UTF-8; so if I instead tell it to convert to
ISO-8859-2, it takes about 6.3 seconds. Compared to about 122 seconds
(without parallelisation) with "man -l --recode UTF-8", I think that's
probably good enough.

Thanks,

Bug#939625: libgrib-api0: Missing /usr/share/grib_api/ data

2019-09-06 Thread Fabrice Meyer
Package: libgrib-api0
Version: 1.28.0-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

While trying to use grib_set command (coming with libgrib-api-tools package), I
got some issue with missing libraries.
In my case, /usr/share/grib_api/definitions/boot.def was missng but the whole
/usr/share/grib_api/ is needed to work properly.

As /usr/share/grib_api/ content is the same (or equivalent) as
/usr/share/eccodes/ coming with libeccodes-data package (dependency of this
package), I suggest to add a link to it. I was able to use grib_set properly
after run this command : ln -s /usr/share/eccodes/ /usr/share/grib_api

An other solution is to use libeccodes-tools package instead of this one to get
grib_set working good (and maybe other grib tools component)

I hope it will help and maybe lead to a fix !

Bug#923084: Prepared gandi-cli release “1.5-1”

2019-09-06 Thread Ben Finney
Howdy Unit193,

On 14-Aug-2019, Ben Finney wrote:
> Control: tags -1 + confirmed pending

I have prepared a release, “1.5-1”, but failed to get it into the
Debian archive.

This is because the Debian GnuPG keyring is not yet up to date with my
signing key, and its copy of my key is expired.

Are you able to finalise that release, and upload it to Debian? The
instructions in ‘debian/README.Source’ are accurate, but in brief:
Finalise the release in the changelog, export the Debian packaging
onto the upstream source in a separate build area. Build the source
package from that. Run any tests you want. If they pass, upload the
package.

(Reminder, in case you need it, that uploads must now *not* include
binary package, otherwise they won't go to the build daemons.)

If the upload succeeds, commit the finalised changelog entry to your
fork of the Git repository. Make a merge request and I'll be able to
get it into the central repository.

No obligation on you to do any of this, because eventually the Debian
keyring will have my updated key and I will again be able to upload
packages.

Bug#939622: blender: Subdivision Surface Modifier Doesn't Work

2019-09-06 Thread Leo L. Schwab
Package: blender
Version: 2.80+dfsg-3+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Many introductory YouTube videos to Blender make use of the
Subdivision Surface modifier. It was while following one of these
tutorials for the new Blender 2.8 that I noticed it's not working.

To reproduce:
- Launch Blender
- Press DEL or 'X' to delete the default cube.
- Press SHIFT-A; add a torus or sphere to the workspace.
- In the right-hand properties panel, click on the
wrench/spanner icon to enter the modifiers panel.
- Click on Add Modifier; select Subdivision Surface.

What should happen is that the faces of the sphere/torus you
added above should be subdivided to yield a finer mesh. Further, by
increasing the value of the Viewport value, you should be able to
increase the amount of subdivision.

In my installation, nothing happens, and the displayed mesh
remains unchanged.

Next, click on the Apply button in the modifier panel.
Normally, this "commits" the subdivided mesh to the workspace, replacing
the original. In my installation, an error is displayed, reading:

"Modifier returned error; skipping apply"

Some brief Googling consistently suggested that this issue is
related to a stale or misconfigured build directory; hence this report.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Schwab

Bug#938629: taurus: Python2 removal in sid/bullseye

Hello,

The python-taurus package seems to only have a single reverse
dependency, python-sardana, which is already RC-buggy, deprecated and
destined for removal. Thus there doesn't seem to be any blockers for
just dropping python-taurus and getting rid of the python2 dependency.

Bug#938842: xdmf: Python2 removal in sid/bullseye

2019-09-06 Thread Andreas Henriksson
Control: tags -1 + patch

Hello,

The python(2) bindings can simply be removed to get rid of the python(2)
dependency.

There was also a compile issue with PyBuffer_FromMemory which apparently
is no longer available. According to google knowledge it should be
replaced by PyMemoryView_FromMemory in newer python versions so a patch
was added to handle that.

Debdiff attached.

Regards,
Andreas Henriksson

definitely start with a fix to unstable, but i don't know that it's
urgent to binNMU everything -- this is a defense in depth measure. it's
mainly relevant as a privilege escalation once someone has gained
arbitrary code execution as the runit-log user itself, i think, and i
don't know of any use of the runit-log user that is likely to be
vulnerable to arbitrary code execution. if you know of any, then yes,
archive-wide binNMUs are probably advisable.

FYI I had to do something similar recently in src:xtrlock:

Heh, although ironically strip-nondeterminism (a non-native

Bug#936828: lcgdm: Python2 removal in sid/bullseye

2019-09-06 Thread Andreas Henriksson
Control: tags -1 + upstream

Hello,

The lcgdm should be able to drop the python(2) bindings packages
because they have no reverse dependencies.

The next task would be to tackle that lcgdm calls python from
Makefile in many (sub)directories. This should probably be best fixed
upstream first, even though it looks pretty trivial to just change it to
python3, but since it's in so many places.

Did not investigate further if there are any other tasks that will also
need to get done to fully get rid of the python2 (build) dependency.

Regards,
Andreas Henriksson

Bug#939618: tevent FTCBFS: multiple reasons

2019-09-06 Thread Helmut Grohne
Source: tevent
Version: 0.9.39-2
Tags: patch
User: debian-cr...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: cross-satisfiability ftcbfs

tevent fails to cross build from source for many reasons.

1. The python3 build dependency is not installable, because it is
interpreted as a host dependency. We really want a build architecture
python here for running waf though, so it should be annotated with
   :any or :native.
2. waf tries performing a native build, because the relevant environment
variables are not set up. One should set CC and PKGCONFIG (not
   the usual PKG_CONFIG) for tevent.
3. waf tries running a simple hello world program.
4. waf performs sizeof checks by running programs.
5. waf has a mandatory run test for determining whether mkstemp works.
6. probably more

The attached patch fixes 1-4. I don't know a good solution for 5. As
such it is an incremental step towards cross building tevent. Please
consider applying it and close this bug when doing so.

Hi,

I see that a source upload was done and the updated version of the package
(1.7.0-4) has passed into testing - thanks!

Is there something that needs to be done to get the process started for
inclusion in the buster repo? PuppetDB doesn't really work properly without the
fixed version (we're running 1.7.0-4) installed manually in production. Without
it, puppet runs from nodes will not work after PuppetDB restarts.

Thanks,

stands for "easy" because the goal is to create a library that's easy
 to use.

It is a dependency for JVerein (ITP: 929477)

It should be maintained in the Java-Team.

Kind reagards

* License : Expat (similar to BSD)
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Java library that reads and writes "vobject" data

vinnie is a lightweight Java library that reads and writes "vobject"
data (vCard and iCalendar). It is used by the ez-vcard and biweekly
 projects

I need this Package to build JVerein (ITP #929477) and to build ez-vcard

Bug#939608: bitcoin: CVE-2019-15947

2019-09-06 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Source: bitcoin
Version: 0.18.1~dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security upstream
Justification: user security hole

Hi,

The following vulnerability was published for bitcoin.

CVE-2019-15947[0]:
| In Bitcoin Core 0.18.0, bitcoin-qt stores wallet.dat data unencrypted
| in memory. Upon a crash, it may dump a core file. If a user were to
| mishandle a core file, an attacker can reconstruct the user's
| wallet.dat file, including their private keys, via a grep "6231 0500"
| command.

The severity is a bit exagerated here, but given the package is only
in testing and unstable, before the buster release this might be
considered RC and needed to fix. But it's a long road to there.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id in your changelog entry.

For further information see:

[0] https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2019-15947
https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2019-15947

Please adjust the affected versions in the BTS as needed.

Right.

But #932637 (and probably #919368 as well) should still be closed

Currently, in order to stop it I too had to uninstall as there doesn't

Version 2.4 still has the "text graphical" hours output format available.
It has however been renamed from -h / --hours to -hg / --hoursgraph. This

share the same list style format and be more consistent as a result.

While you say "no longer", and "new behaviour", I will note that the

stops there, never actually powering off nor rebooting the machine. In order to
complete the action, I need to press the power button for about 10 seconds
until the BIOS cuts the power and then press again to restart.

- Trying to suspend: The suspend sequence normally shows no progress messages,
and even if it did what I normally do is close the lid and Gnome triggers a
suspend to RAM. This laptop has a LED (a Lenovo thinklight) that shows the
power state. On previous kernels, a couple of seconds after ordering the
suspend action, this LED changes from solid on (which indicates the system is
running) to a slow blink, which indicates the machine is a suspended state.
With kernel 5.2.0 it seems that the suspend sequence is initiated, but instead
of the slow blink the LED start to flash rapidly (which indicates that the
system is entering hibernation state),and stays in that state. The machine does
not respond to wakeup events, and I need to force a shutdown via long-pressing
the power button.

This started happening with the first installation of a 5.x kernel. If I reboot
the system with a current 4.x kernel (4.19.0-5 as of now), everything works OK.

My guess is that the kernel is not issuing the correct orders to the BIOS in
order to complete those actions. Either the new 5.x kernel series has changed
the power management strategy in some way breaking those calls to the BIOS,
which would be an upstream error, or is relying in a new software package which
is not normally installed in a 4.x-based system such as buster to complete
those calls, which will lead to this problem when the user wants to upgrade to
testing/unstable or when 5.x reaches stable.

Bug#939605: Support lerna multiple packages

2019-09-06 Thread Pirate Praveen

Package: pkg-js-tools
Severity: wishlist

Example package is node-core-js 3 in git, which contains many modules
in a single repo each module in a sub directory of packages directory.

So core-js module is packages/core-js. This can be auto detected if
there is a packages directory and/or lerna.json file.

Bug#939602: debdiff: no longer diffs contents of sources, diffs only quiltage

2019-09-06 Thread Adam Borowski
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.19.6
Severity: normal

Hi!
A regression from 1.0 to 3.0 (quilt) format:

dget
https://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20190710T163017Z/pool/main/t/tfortune/tfortune_1.0.0-2.dsc
dget https://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/t/tfortune/tfortune_1.0.1-1.dsc
# Sorry for no snapshot.d.o link, it's not there yet.
rm -rf tfortune*/.pc tfortune*/debian/patches

Compare:
debdiff tfortune*dsc
diff -Nurd tfortune-1.0.0/ tfortune-1.0.1/

With debdiff on 1.0 packages, or with regular diff on unpacked source trees,
you get a comparison of the sources that'll be compiled/etc -- ie, anything
that matters for the package's functionality. But with 3.0, you get only a
diff of the outer container.

The new behaviour may be useful at most for comparing changed patch
metadata, or for debugging quilt-related issues, but not the actual code.

Of course, that's still a valid use case, but answers a different question
that what I'd expect from debdiff. It's worth keeping as an option for those
debugging quilt problems -- but both coders and release people would want to
diff the contents, thus I'd say the old behaviour should be default, and
that's why I'm reporting this as a regression not a feature.

Bug#939601: Can't build bnd from salsa

Package: bnd
Version: 3.5.0

This package is in turn a dependency on JVerein (ITP: #929477)

Core need bnd as a dependency. So I tried to build bnd on my machine.
this failed.

I try to build it with gbp buildpackage. I get the following output.

I: using cowbuilder as pbuilder
dpkg-checkbuilddeps: error: Unmet build dependencies:

(>= 6.0.0)
W: Unmet build-dependency in source

I only clone the repo from salsa https://salsa.debian.org/java-team/bnd
and start gbp buildpackage --git-verbose

I can't see any reason why it didn't install openjdk and other important
packages.

Bug#939600: ITP: vmfs6-tools -- Tools to access VMFS6 filesystems

2019-09-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Thomas Ward

* Package name: vmfs6-tools
  Version : 0.1.0
Upstream Author : Multiple (details below)
* URL : https://github.com/teward/vmfs6-tools
* License : GPL-2+
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Tools to access VMFS6 filesystems

VMFS6 is a clustered filesystem designed to store virtual machine disks for
VMware ESX or ESXi Server hosts. This set of tools allows to access these
filesystems from some other non ESX/ESXi host for e.g. maintenance tasks.

Only read access is available at the moment, but write access is under
works. Multiple extents are supported.

The VMFS can be accessed with a command line tool or mounted through a
userspace filesystem (FUSE-based).

This version of VMFS Tools is designed to work with VMFS6, it is not
guaranteed to support VMFS5; if you need VMFS5 support, then use the
vmfs-tools package instead.

--

Multiple 'authors' have had their ways in this package. The complete
authors list is:

- Christophe Fillot (Original VMFS, which Mike Hommey based this
on)
- Mike Hommey (Original vmfs-tools packager)
- Weafon Tsao (Created the vmfs6-tools fork for
VMFS6)
- Thomas Ward (Myself, as I made some changes to the fork
for coinstallability with vmfs-tools)

Note that as vmfs6-tools was never actually given a stable release number, I
made a release number of 0.1.0 on my own fork of Weafon's repository, which is
the basis of this packaging. That forked repository can be found on GitHub
(https://github.com/teward/vmfs6-tools).

The closest package in similarity to this one is vmfs-tools. However, the vmfs-
tools package only has VMFS support up to version 5. VMware ESXi 6 and later
use VMFS version 6 formatted file systems, which have substantial changes from
version 5. Because VMware ESXi 6 and later use vmfs6, we need to have VMFS6
compatible tools in the repository. However, while vmfs6-tools has VMFS6
support, it is not guaranteed to support vmfs5 well, which makes it infeasible
to switch to the forked package in place of vmfs-tools, which is guaranteed to
support VMFS5.

Because the fork of vmfs-tools to create vmfs6-tools by Weafon Tsao was not
designed with reverse compatibility in mind, it makes sense to package
vmfs6-tools separately alongside the vmfs-tools package to provide vmfs6
support.

This package will be maintained by me, and updated for packaging policy as
needed. However, there has been no movement at either vmfs-tools or vmfs6-tools
for some time, and therefore there may not ever be actual version bumps to the
software.

Bug#918754: PATH is missing sbin

2019-09-06 Thread David Lawyer
I installed Debian 10 from a usb drive, had this problem, and solved it..
The PATH environment variable is set in /etc/profile but since /etc/profile
is only run by a login shell and there is no login shell, /etc/profile
never runs and it never has a chance to set PATH. I use the lxde GUI.
Booting the PC takes me to the login to lxde and I login. However I don't
get any shell. Then from the desktop I start xterm (or the like). This
starts a shell but it's not a login shell since I'm already logged in. So
there is no login shell and /etc/profile is never run.

There are at least a couple of ways to solve this. One is to type su
--login (instead of just su) to create a login shell and become the su.
Another is to set PATH in /etc/bash.bashrc. But don't copy the contents of
/etc/profile to /etc/bash.bashrc for if you do you will create an infinite
loop since /etc/profile calls /etc/bash.bashrc which make the bashrc file
call itself creating an infinite loop. You have to be selective in what
you copy to bashrc. The fix that's needed is perhaps to modify
/etc/bash,bashrc for the bash package.

b) ... or else a default is used (see option

c) ?

Since the packages are both u-boot related, the new program might have
the same functionality as the existing one and hence using
update-alternatives for the two variants maybe an option.

This is a pre-existing bug, already present with the gtk-doc-tools
in (stable and) unstable.

gnome-vfs is obsolete and should be removed from Debian anyway (#893922)
so nobody has fixed this.

Rebuilds of reverse dependencies was initiated on debomatic by mfv.
Unfortunately gnutls30 seems to cause alot of build issues for unknown
reasons. Also quite hard to tell which other issues are related to
gtk-doc-tools or not... A few ones that seems atleast somewhat related
to gtk-doc-tools has been spotted and bugs filed though (see above).
Further blockers will be added as they are found. Any help with
rebuilding and identifying them welcome (also ofcourse fixing the found
ones).

I also got this error when migrating my configuration from stretch to
buster and added the following setting to my 10-mail.conf:

mail_attribute_dict = file:~/dovecot-attributes

Not sure why that setting is needed in my setup to be honest, and the
dovecot-attributes file doesn't ever seem to get created. But the error
was gone after adding it.

I just tested creating, editing and removing a sieve config via
roundcube's sieve plugin (using roundcube from Debian buster) and
everything went smoothly.

I'm running a custom build of dovecot with the referenced patch
cherry-picked for a few weeks now (I recently updated it to version
1:2.3.4.1-5+deb10u1 because of the security fix). I haven't noticed any
issues.

Bug#939590: global: Please support sqlite3

Package: global
Version: 6.6.3-2+b1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I'd like gtags in golang projects. https://github.com/juntaki/gogtags
supports generating them, but the `global` binary needs to support
sqlite3 to read them.

I changed debian/rules in the source package like this (add
--with-sqlite):

override_dh_auto_configure:
 dh_auto_configure -- --with-exuberant-ctags=/usr/bin/ctags
--disable-static \
 --datadir=/usr/share/$(DEB_SOURCE) --with-sqlite3

... and the result suits my needs :) So please consider this change.

The version in sid is cruft (a leftover binary package that should be
removed). It's only present on the sh4 architecture, which is in
debports, not debian proper.

$ rmadison libopencv-highgui2.4-deb0

shows only oldstable.

Perhaps rather than telling us the symptoms, you could tell us what the
actual problem you are having is. Do you have third party software that
needs rebuilding? Why do you care about this library which has been
replaced by a newer version.

Bug#939585: installation-reports: Unable to boot from LVM on encrypted volume - missing cryptsetup in initramfs

2019-09-06 Thread Arne
Package: installation-reports
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

Installation using manually partioned disk by installer containing LVM on
encrypted volume

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or

Manually partition drive by installer:
- primary boot partition
- encrypted volume
- LVM on encrypted volume containing root and swap partitions

Continue installation to the end.

An alternative would be trying to encrypt the whole disk. This fails in a more
complete way.

This used to work fine with buster as testing release already.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

After reboot and some error messages about missing LVM volumes you will be
dropped to an initramfs shell.
Obviously cryptsetup is missing although installed by d-i with no errors and
there are no errors reported by d-i during generaton of initramfs.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

A working installation where cryptsetup with or without plymouth asking for
passphrase and setting up encrypted volumes.

Cause:

cryptsetup-initramfs is not installed. I was able to fix the situation by
chroot and installing it in the end of the installation.

Bug#907615:

2019-09-06 Thread StalkR
Hello,

I just encountered the same issue.
Thanks Alex for debugging and finding the reason: lxc-console attaches
by default to tty 1 vs. but the template listens by default on tty 0.

Host is an up-to-date Debian buster, with packages lxc
(1:3.1.0+really3.0.3-8) and lxc-templates (3.0.3-1).
I created a Debian buster container like this:
# lxc-create -n buster -t debian -- -r buster
Then tried to open a console like this:
# lxc-console -n buster
Connected to tty 1
Type to exit the console, to enter Ctrl+a itself

Nothing happened, so I specified tty 0 and it worked:

# lxc-console -n buster -t 0
Connected to tty 0
Type to exit the console, to enter Ctrl+a itself

buster login:

Now I don't actually need lxc-console, I use lxc-attach which works
great, but when I tested it it was weird that it didn't work with
default options.

Thanks!

Bug#939584: mk-build-deps: does not exit with non-zero exit code on failure

2019-09-06 Thread Andreas Steinel
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.19.5
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I ran mk-build-deps in a directory in which the user running it has no
write permissions. An error message is displayed, but the program exits
with a zero exit code but was not able to perform its duty:

$ mk-build-deps
Error in tempdir() using /tmp/localdir/equivs.XX: Could not create
directory /tmp/localdir/equivs.DB5LRY: Permission denied at
/usr/bin/equivs-build line 19.

$ echo $?
0

I expect the program to return anything else but 0 so that programs
relying on exit code will work.

As a workaround in my build scripts, I now check if mk-build-deps
created any *deb files

Best

This bug is in d-shlibs (but can be worked around locally in fontforge).

Bug#864603: Temporary workaround

2019-09-06 Thread Bruno Kleinert
Hi,

the "Could not connect: Connection refused" seems to be a known
limitation of running X11 applications on Wayland, see
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/8/html/considerations_in_adopting_rhel_8/desktop-and-graphics_considerations-in-adopting-rhel-8#opening-graphical-applications-with-sudo_notable-changes-in-gnome-shell

That link also points to the workaround.

I'd prefer a real solution, though, since more and more distribitions
switch to Wayland by default. Please forward this bug to upstream in
case they aren't aware of this issue, yet.

Cheers - Bruno

Bug#939080: Updated patch

2019-09-06 Thread Bill Blough
There were a couple of issues with the previous patch that I didn't
notice earlier:

1) Line endings seem to have gotten mangled

2) Newer versions of quilt don't appear to like it if you manually edit
the series file.

The attached patch has the same changes as the previous patch except
that it doesn't modify the quilt series file, and it should preserve the
correct line endings.
