Bug#947562: RM: nix/new -- ROM; wrong orig tarball

2019-12-27 Thread Thomas Koch
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: tho...@koch.ro

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

The orig tarball currently waiting in the new queue is different from what I
expect. I don't know how this happened, but it stopps me from uploading a new
version and it disturbs me.

The easiest would be if some ftp master could just reject the nix package and
I upload a new version.

Thank you and sorry for the noise.

Thomas

Hello,

in the context of the change to Python3 also Scons was revised. With
the current version 3.1.2-1 from Experimental the changeover is
finished so far.

However, an error occurred while building your package. The build log
is attached.

Please check it and fix the error.

MariaDB and MySQL Packaging Team,

# systemctl start mariadb.service
starts MariaDB just fine, but generates a log message:
/etc/mysql/debian-start[n]: /usr/bin/mysql_upgrade: \
the '--basedir' option is always ignored

The automatically generated /etc/mysql/debian.cnf includes:
[mysql_upgrade]
...
basedir  = /usr

However, mysql_upgrade(1) says:
--basedir=path
Old option accepted for backward compatibility but ignored.

Below is an **untested** patch.

I think the bug was in the previous version. 1.5.3-1 was built with gem2deb
0.40 and 1.5.3-2 was built with gem2deb 0.45.

The affected packages should be patched or updated to work with 1.5.3.

Bug#947551: prospector: please, tighten the dependency of prospector on python3-pep8-naming

2019-12-27 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: prospector
Version: 1.1.7-2
Severity: normal

Hi.

After a few upgrades of packages that prospector depends on, it stopped
working due to a version of python3-pep8-naming that is "too new" to satisfy
its dependencies (or, in other words, the dependency of the package is not tight
enough as what the script needs at runtime):

The version of pep8-naming available is only 0.9.1-1 in testing and unstable:

I have not tried to see upstream if python3-pep8-naming 0.9.1 would work

compatibility...

Any help is very welcome,

Rogério Brito.

Bug#947550: RFH: salsa.debian.org/debian/dbab

2019-12-27 Thread Tong Sun
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I've created/updated the salsa repo at:

   https://salsa.debian.org/debian/dbab

For the package of

  https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/dbab

The reason that I’m asking for reviewing is that,

- this is the first time that I created a salsa project all by myself
- also, this is the first time that I am doing the packaging and
uploading all by myself

The package was tested on both gbp and sbuild
(http://paste.debian.net/1122767/). It's also lintian-clean.
And I’ve done my best to fix anything I can.

However, a second pair of eyes, i.e., any kind of reviews and
suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Tong

Hi!
I'm afraid that the new check drops optimizations on amd64 -- the arch where
99.9% users are. Your patch is:

 #ifdef _MSC_VER
 #include
-#elif defined(__arm__)
+#elif defined(__arch64__)
 #include
-#else
+#elif defined(__i386__)
 #include
 //#include
 #endif

so it checks for __i386__ which is not defined on amd64 (nor x32).

There are many defines which would be enough; you can for example check for:
#elif defined(__i386__) || defined(__x86_64__)

Also, it could be nice to keep the optimized code on armhf as well, which
would make the ARM line:
#elif defined(__ARM_FEATURE_SIMD32) || defined(__ARM_NEON)

Currently, the code _does_ compile but is slow on any arch other than arm64
and i386. And not many people run scientific code on either.

Were the p{re,ost}{inst,rm} scripts ever working? If they were, then your
new script above won't be enough: it looks for a single hash, while there
could be two: one with, and one without auto-disablement (ENABLED="false").

Er, what? You break the daemon on any rc system other than systemd, which
is a RC bug (a "must" requirement of Policy §9.11). And, it's a regression
-- both the existing package and upstream do ship init scripts.

If the module-loading code from in-archive version is no longer needed
(which your .service lacking that suggests), I'd simplify the obsolete stuff
away and use upstream init script as-is. Or, even better, replace it with
new-style:

#!/usr/bin/env /lib/init/init-d-script
### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: ipmievd
# Required-Start:$remote_fs $syslog
# Required-Stop: $remote_fs $syslog
# Default-Start: 2 3 4 5
# Default-Stop: 0 1 6
# Short-Description: IPMI event daemon
# Description: ipmievd is a daemon which will listen for events
#from the BMC that are being sent to the SEL and
#also log those messages to syslog.
### END INIT INFO
DAEMON=/usr/sbin/ipmievd
DAEMON_ARGS="open daemon"

You could then drop the redundant .service for less code to maintain.

I just updated fs-uae to version 3.0.2 today and it worked fine
for me under KDE. Please try if the new version fixes the issue

Yes. I guess I should have made two entries here.

Bug#947548: RM: python-scipy/experimental -- ROM; deprecated and replaced by scipy

2019-12-27 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

python3-scipy is now provided by the scipy source package (currently
1.3.3-3)

python-scipy is now a legacy package providing only python-scipy for
python2 (currently version 1.2.2-11).

Previously, python-scipy source provided both python2 and python3
packages. From version 1.3, scipy no longer supports python2. An
interim packaging removing python2 support was built from the
python-scipy source package and uploaded to experimental (1.3.1-1exp3).

Since python3 support is now provided by the scipy source package,
python-scipy/experimental/1.3.1-1exp3 is now deprecated and is getting
in the way of monitoring the scipy packages.

Can python-scipy/experimental/1.3.1-1exp3 now be removed?

Somewhat related to this, debian/watch for python-scipy (1.2.2-11) now
restricts the uscan watch to only version 1.2. This update has not
propagated to the qa.debian.org pages
e.g. https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=dparsons=yes
is still saying 1.4.1 is available for python-scipy. Will this get
fixed once python-scipy/experimental/1.3.1-1exp3 is removed or does it
need to be fixed elsewhere?

Wouldn't the use of wildcards be a security issue?

i.e. could you end up creating wrong symbolic links?

In any case, this seems rather ugly to me.

Bug#947544: Please provide an egg-info

2019-12-27 Thread VA

Package: python3-pyqt5.qtwebengine
Version: 5.13.2-1

Hi,

TL;DR: Like https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=890200,
but for python3-pyqt5.qtwebengine instead of just python3-pyqt5.

Providing an egg-info or a dist-info correctly filled in a Python
package is useful because if avoids installing with pip something
already installed with the Debian packages.

These are packages I installed with the Debian packages
(python3-requests and python3-pyqt5), and they are fine:

% pip install requests
Requirement already satisfied: requests in
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages (2.22.0)

% pip install PyQt5
Requirement already satisfied: PyQt5 in /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages
(5.13.2)

I installed python3-pyqt5.qtwebengine with the Debian package too, but
it doesn't work as expected:

% pip install PyQtWebEngine
Collecting PyQtWebEngine
  Downloading
https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/71/be/cd5243a456aae37788eebd8333d2326fd830de7ce1f1ac6618e966a66862/PyQtWebEngine-5.14.0-5.14.0-cp35.cp36.cp37.cp38-abi3-manylinux1_x86_64.whl
(65.3MB)

[...snip...]

If python3-pyqt5.qtwebengine shipped the correct metadata, then pip
would have told me PyQtWebEngine is already installed.

I've opened Severity: important bugs for the rest, to make sure

Bug#947541: viking: build-depends on deprecated gnome-doc-utils

Control: block 936625 by -1
Control: block 889019 by -1
User: pkg-gnome-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: oldlibs gnome-doc-utils

This package Build-Depends on gnome-doc-utils. gnome-doc-utils is a
deprecated package of documentation utilities. Its most recent upstream
release was in 2012, with most changes in its git repository since then
being translation updates. The GNOME team do not consider gnome-doc-utils
to be suitable for release in Debian 11 'bullseye'.

The supported replacement is yelp.m4 in yelp-tools, as used
in many GNOME 3 packages. A porting guide is available:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Initiatives/GnomeGoals/NewDocumentationInfrastructure

gnome-doc-utils relies on Python 2 code that seems unlikely to be
converted to Python 3, so bug #936625 (part of the effort to remove
Python 2 from Debian for Debian 11 'bullseye') has its severity set to
serious. This means that this bug is highly likely to be elevated to
serious severity at some point in future.

Please convert this package to use yelp-tools, or if necessary remove
the documentation processing entirely.

Thanks,
smcv

Bug#947542: xiphos: build-depends on deprecated gnome-doc-utils

2019-12-27 Thread Simon McVittie

Version: 4.1.0.1+dfsg1-1

Thanks,
smcv

That doesn't seem strictly needed, we're removing hundreds of packages each

This package Build-Depends on gnome-doc-utils. gnome-doc-utils is a
deprecated package of documentation utilities. Its most recent upstream
release was in 2012, with most changes in its git repository since then
being translation updates. The GNOME team do not consider gnome-doc-utils
to be suitable for release in Debian 11 'bullseye'.

The supported replacement is yelp.m4 in yelp-tools, as used
in many GNOME 3 packages. A porting guide is available:

Hi!
I'm afraid that autopkgtest fails, as it tries to access the current user's
$HOME. No package should reach outside of its build dir, during either the
compile or test step.

You can eg. set $HOME to $AUTOPKGTEST_TMP which is a valid writeable dir.

Looks like I found the issue:

0224-Ensure-token-does-not-overflow.patch corresponds to [0]. This patch
was meant for ImageMagick 7.x, not 6.x. The correct patch is [1] (the one
used in stretch).

This will be fixed in the next security update.

Aha, that's perfect! Perhaps, you can raise a pull request on GitHub?

Well, he updated the snapshot which now reflects the latest upstream
changes.
FWIW, I am almost ready to upload that package now.
But if you want to have this done with dh-make-golang, I sure can wait :)
But I wouldn't want to waste Sven's effort (which is pretty neat!). We
can copy the contents of the debian/* anyway?

That said, I'm pretty flexible with anyway you'd want to proceed with!
Also, would you like to maintain it, too? :D

I have reproduced this issue in jessie, and can confirm that this

The severity of #895520 was escalated to serious in October 2019, so I'm
raising this bug to the same severity now.

fcitx-configtool build-depends on libunique-dev but fcitx-config-gtk2
does not have a Depends on it, which suggests that the build-dependency
might be unnecessary. If so, this bug will be easy to fix.

I believe I must have figured out some way to auto generate that package
with dh-make-go. Looking at the files in debian/ I don't think I copy
that manually. But really, feel free to start from scratch with current
standards
et al.

All I remember is that I stopped at some point because a module was hosted in
a mercurial repo and that was somewhat painful to deal with.

- Jedi is an autocompletion tool for Python. It works. With and without syntax

scim is now the last package keeping Qt4 in testing, can we please go ahead
with the https://github.com/leggewie-DM/scim/pull/1 MR ? Qt5 support can
still be re-added later, there's ample time before the bullseye freeze.

Bug#947512: dh-make-golang: allow_unknown_hoster parsing error in make.go

2019-12-27 Thread James Montgomery

Package: dh-make-golang
Version: 0.3.0-1

Background
When invoking 'dh-make-golang' with -allow_unknown_hoster argument the
user experiences 'panic: runtime error: slice bounds out of range [:-1]'
This is due to the host variable being unassigned prior to slicing.

Output
panic: runtime error: slice bounds out of range [:-1]

Reproduce
dh-make-golang make -allow_unknown_hoster code.cloudfoundry.org/bytefmt

Patch
I have attached a patch that fixes GitHub Issue 120 [0] and corrects
this issue.

Thanks!

James

This would be great!

A quick "ack" and the wanted directory name confirmed by weasel would probably
unleash this nice configuration feature quickly.
(I am willing to provide a patch, if iry is not in the mood anymore)

Hi Bernd,

Thanks a lot for your work.

I'd be IMO fine if we drop armel, armhf and mipsel, for the server side
of things. I don't see how one could reliable setup a cluster with this
type of CPUs in production anyway.

But IMO, it'd be nice if we could at least keep the client side working.
I'm not sure how to achieve this though, probably this will make the
build a lot more complicated.

BTW, any idea what dependency is missing in mips64el?

I have figured out the bug in dh-make-golang that was preventing
creating the bytefmt package. Now I just need to figure out how to
submit this patch given the wide range of options - GitHub, Salsa,
bugs.d.o :)

I know that Sven has done some initial manual work to get bytefmt
started, but he noted it may be a bit outdated. If you like, we can get
dh-make-golang fixed and attempt to bring in bytfmt using dh-make-golang.

Hi Jérơme,

that directory should be created created by lightdm (see
https://sources.debian.org/src/lightdm/1.26.0-4/src/shared-data-manager.c/#L75
) so there's something fishy on your installation which doesn't happen
anywhere else.

Could you try to investigate why lightdm can't create it? Can you create it
yourself and see what happens?

Bug#947134: MBF: make fdisk non-essential

On Fri, 27 Dec 2019 at 20:39:16 +0100, Andreas Henriksson wrote:
> AIUI ubuntu will need to keep this dependency until they release 20.04
> (their next LTS?)

Ubuntu 20.04 is indeed their next LTS. However, they already have delta
in src:util-linux, including:

  * Drop dependency from util-linux to fdisk. The transition to split-out
fdisk was done before 18.04 so the transitional dependency is no longer
needed, and fdisk should not be pulled into the essential package set
since it's not needed in container environments. For bootable systems
which need fdisk, it will be pulled in directly.

so being nice to Ubuntu is not a barrier to Debian doing this (indeed
they would probably prefer it if we did).

I'd generate a new git repository from the .dsc at some point (since I
can't see other two branches here).
But many thanks for your work!

Me too. I'll add my name next to yours (that alternatively means, you're
one of its maintainer, too).

Many thanks, again! Shall contact you :)

I'm a DD, too :D
Thanks, anyway! \o/

Bug#947509: Please ignore .git directory by default

2019-12-27 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: codespell
Version: 1.16.0-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

I wanted to try out codespell. I thought: "this code is in git, so I'll
just run it, and see from the diff what I need to tweak".

Then codespell started correcting spelling in files inside .git, and I
found myself with a broken repository.

I suggest that the contents of .git directories, or version control
system directories in general, should by default, or always, be skipped.

Feel free to take it, the git log is horrible, even without
a proper name and mail set. So I don't even mind if you just
copy the debian subdir or something like that. I usually license
my contributions under the license used by the upstream project.

That beeing said, I would really like to contribute more to
Debian again, but I failed to do so for the past two years. So
don't count on me. If you form a team or add container-diff to

sponsor uploads, though my go packaging experience is very small.

I really appreciate you put some time into packaging container-diff. :)

Bug#947508: mcomix: Upgrade to Python 3 fork deletes user bookmarks

2019-12-27 Thread Keshav Kini
Package: mcomix
Version: 1.2.1mcomix3+git20190616-1
Severity: critical
Tags: patch upstream
Justification: causes serious data loss

Dear Maintainer,

User bookmarks for the MComix application are stored in a pickle file at
~/.local/share/mcomix/bookmarks.pickle . The Python 3 fork of MComix which
Debian has switched to is unable to read this file when it has been written by
the earlier, Python 2 version of the application. When this happens, the
application prints an error message to the console (which most users will not
see since they won't be opening the application from a terminal), and then
proceeds to start up. Since no bookmarks have been loaded, when the application
saves the current bookmarks back to the file, the contents of the file are reset
and the user's existing bookmark collection is destroyed.

I reported this problem to upstream, here:

  https://github.com/multiSnow/mcomix3/issues/98

I also wrote a pull request to fix the problem, here:

  https://github.com/multiSnow/mcomix3/pull/99

The patch from that PR is attached. The behavior of the application after
patching is that now it will be able to read a user bookmarks file produced by
the Python 2 version of the applicaton, and if any error is encountered, it will
make a backup of the bookmarks pickle file before proceeding, in order to avoid
data loss.

Thanks,
Keshav

Subject: [PATCH] Try to read bookmarks pickled by Python 2

When a pickle file is saved by Python 2, it can be unreadable from Python 3 if
certain kinds of objects are stored in it, such as non-Unicode strings. To
reliably unpickle these objects, a fallback string encoding must be supplied to
`pickle.load()`.

It turns out that `datetime` objects, which MComix saves as part of each
bookmark, are serialized as non-Unicode binary strings (using the pickle
format's opcode `SHORT_BINSTRING`). According to the [Python
documentation][1],

> Using `encoding='latin1'` is required for unpickling NumPy arrays and
> instances of *datetime*, *date* and *time* pickled by Python 2.

This commit does as recommended by the above sentence from the documentation.

Furthermore, this commit makes it so that if MComix fails to unpickle the
bookmarks file, it will back up the existing file before proceeding (because
otherwise it will be overwritten with an empty set of bookmarks later). If the
backup file cannot be saved, the program will crash to avoid destroying the
user's data.

Bug#945920: Random Chromium crashes

2019-12-27 Thread Eloston
Hey all,

I highly suspect all of these crashes are due to disable/tracing.patch:
https://salsa.debian.org/chromium-team/chromium/blob/3bcbf4a32166e394c45caf66e1348127284f9094/debian/patches/disable/tracing.patch

Two reasons:

* It is the only patch that makes changes to memory_instrumentation.
* I am maintaining a fork of Debian's Chromium based on 79.0.3945.79 that does
not include disable/tracing.patch, and I don't have any of the segfaults
described in this issue. I've been running my fork daily for a little over a
week without problems.

I don't know why exactly the patch causes the segfault, but the safest solution
is to rebuild Chromium without the changes that disable tracing:

1. Download the debian/ directory from Salsa (above) or via "apt source
chromium". We don't want the orig tarball (we will need to re-generate it)
1. Remove disable/tracing.patch from debian/patches/series
2. Remove disable/perfetto.patch from debian/patches/series (not completely sure
this is necessary, but Catapult and Perfetto are both used in Chromium's
tracing)
3. Remove from debian/copyright's Files-Excluded section:
* Remove any path containing "tracing"
* Remove third_party/perfetto
* Remove third_party/catapult/*
4. Rebuild the browser with a new orig tarball:
a. Install dependencies: mk-build-deps -i debian/control
b. Make new orig tarball: ./debian/rules get-orig-source
c. Now just build normally, e.g. cd chromium-x.x.x.x && dpkg-buildpackage -b
-uc

NOTE: These changes will make the browser depend on minified javascript files
again, which was the original motivation for disabling tracing (as noted in the
header of disable/tracing.patch).

Hope that helps,
Eloston

I'll polish this further and upload it at the earliest!

D'you intend to maintain it, as well? :D
Or shall I take it from here?

I'm not able to reliably parse this sentence. Can you please elaborate a
bit more on what you mean here?

Regarding these binNMU's, gatb-core can't migrate at this moment, it
needs a source-only upload (CC'ing the maintainers), so we'll have to
wait at least until that's done (by them or by anybody else).
