Bug#408465: debian-installer: Fails to provide for scaning second and remaining discs of a CD set.
Hi, 2007/1/26, Philip Charles [EMAIL PROTECTED]: The installation can only use the first disc of the set. No provision for adding other discs of the set, ie apt-cdrom add. Noted on i386 and amd64. Suggested point of addition, after the net installation question. I would also like to see an option to scan other CDs. It was available in sarge installer and it now assumes you are installing from net. It would be good if installer can have a flag to specify which method it is going to use so that when the cdrom installers are created it can set the flag to true and ask user to scan other cds if he/she wishes. Other installers like netinstall can ignore this as default value of this flag is false. This has been a major annoyance since we (in India) still depends on cdrom as the major installtion source as broadband internet connection is not cheap and not available for most people. And since it fails to scan other cds tasksel is not able to install some packages which are not in the first cd (like synaptic) even though which are part of the Desktop task and the user has selected to install it and expect it to be installed. Also there is constraint for the debian-cd team to fit popular packages into the first cd. It would be great if it is included in the debian installer for etch. Bug#404727: [patch]: fixing Malayalam rendering issues Ref:#403404
Package: libpango1.0-0 Version: 1.14.8-3 Severity: important X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] I am one of the Malayalam language co-ordinators for debian installer. Refering to bug Ref:#403404 reported at debian.org by Davide Viti zinosat AT tiscali.it we had faced some incorrect rendering for the language Malayalam (code ml) and it seems to be caused by some recent changes to pango. The language has already been activated in the graphical installer of debian currently in testing (etch). But for it to be usefull as a supported language on the debian installer these rendering issues that have been visible needed to be fixed. These bugs were introduced by a previous patching of pango by Rahul Bhalerao and LingNing Zhang to fix bugs in lohit_ml font for Fedora Core 6. Debian malayalam team have been working on these issues for some days now and we have been meeting, fixing and testing some of the major rendering issues that will hinder the language support for etch. We had met yesterday (26th) and finalized some of the obvious fixes that are necessarily required. We also finalized a patch and it is attached herewith. Some of the major fixes that have been patched are mentioned here * Removed Cons+0d4d+RA(0d30)/RRA(0d31) +KA(0d15)/HA(0d39) exception and moved 0d30 from _cn form back to its intitial _pb form * Correct rendering for ZWJ (SF_PROCESS_ZWJ is removed from the flags for malayalam) * Fixing the rendering of LA (changed to _bb from _ct) (We stiil have some more issues to solve) The patch is submited upstream http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357790 Members present at the meeting were: Vivek Varghese Cherian vivekcherian at gmail.com, Praveen A pravi.a AT gmail.com - Debian Installer co-ordinators for malayalam Hussain KH hussain.rachana AT gmail.com - Designer of Rachana font (which is used by the graphical installer) Suresh P suresh AT ippimail.com - Designer of Suruma (Another malayalam font) http://suruma.sarovar.org/ (He has been working on pango for sometime now) CK Raju doxa AT sancharnet.in - Head of the Department, Information Technology, MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram Anivar Aravind anivar AT gnu.org.in - Global Alternate Information Applications (GAIA) Hiran Venugopalan hiran.v AT gmail.com - Co-ordinator Palakkad Libre Software Users Society (plus) and reviewed by many others. Bug#403404: [Debian-in-workers] Bug#403404: ttf-malayalam: error while opening ttf file with fontforge
2006/12/22, Davide Viti [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I downloaded and tested it. Looks good. Still need some pango changes and we are working on it. sorry for the late reply; the version of ttf-malayalam-fonts-udeb (1:0.4.7.3) contains the otf file. I just rebuilt an iso and in case you wanted to try it here's the link: http://www.webalice.it/zinosat/g-i/rachana_w01_otf.iso please give us some more feedback. We have tested the ISOs and faced some major pango rendering issues (incorrect rendering of some conjuncts). These were introduced in the latest pango to fix bugs in lohit_ml font used in Fedora Core 6 (we have tested that font and it doesn't render properly even in QT which has so far the best rendering support for Malayalam and both Rachana and Anjali renders properly with the proposed patch). We have provided a fix for pango and hope to get it accepted before etch. Bug#385990: (forw) Bug#385990: [Debian-in-workers] Bug#385990: ttf-malayalam-fonts: Add another font to the package
Hi, 2006/12/18, Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED]: (trying to solve an issue in Debian with fonts for the Malayalam language, one of the official languages in India. This language uses its own script. Debian Installer is now translated in Malayalam but we have problems to display Malayalam in D-I due to #403404) There is an updated version of Rachana (it is available with Soumyadeep) which does not have these issues. I could include it in a next NMU of ttf-indic-fonts, aimed at fixing #403404, caused by errors in the Rachana font. Please use the new version of Rachana font (Rachana_w01.ttf) My conclusion currently, about Malayalam fonts is: -The Rachana font (Racotf04) could have potential licensing issues. See http://bugs.debia.org/385990 for background Use Rachana_w01. Bug#395280: [Debian-in-workers] Bug#395280: Please include the AnjaliOldLipi font in ttf-malayalam-fonts
Hi Cibu,2006/11/12, Cibu C J [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Praveen,Thanks for pointing out the sequence. First of all I wonder why this is font dependent behavior. As per my understanding, rendering engine should be choosing chillu-ന or ന + virama form. because the Rachana uses substitution fro conjuncts and chillu I think, Hussain will be able to give better clarity. Now on which is the correct form of rendering for NA + VIRAMA + SA: As per current standard and PR 37 chillu-NA is the C1-conjoining form of NA. So Rachana behavior is correct output. However, once chillus are encoded, NA cannot form chillu-NA in any other context other than VIRAMA+ZWJ which is agreed for backward compatibility. So Anjali's behavior is forward compatible. NA+VIRAMA+SA is substituted in Rachana to form NSA AFAIKT Also, the tool used to create that word should be modified to create NA+VIRAMA+ZWJ whenever Chillu-NA is intended.NA+VIRAMA+SA is shown as NSA in Rachana because it is built in to the font where as in case of Anjali it is shown by Rendering engine, correct me if I am wrong. Both Rachana and Anjali needs consonant +chandrakala + zwj to make it a chillu if it is at the end of a word. But Rachana doesn't need a zwj if it is in the middle of a word forexample installer ഇ+ന+്+സ+്+റ+്+റ+ാ+ള+ര+്+show it correctly in QT/KDE (which is thebest rendering scheme as Mahesh pointed out, pango has many issues)with RachanaSeeRachana http://www.flickr.com/photos/pravi/287626741/Anjali http://www.flickr.com/photos/pravi/287626739/ But for Anjali it needs a zwj before സ to make a chillu from ന.
