Bug#802164: inkscape: FTBFS on hppa since switch to gcc-5
Hi All, Just a quick note that we're planning upstream to switch to require a C++11 compliant compiler. This is needed for compatibility with new versions of the GNOME development libraries. We'll hopefully switch in time for Inkscape 0.92. Bug#802164: inkscape: FTBFS on hppa since switch to gcc-5
Hi Mattia, Sorry... hit Reply instead of Reply All. The fix could just be applied in debian/rules if you don't want to patch the upstream source. You should just be able to add CFLAGS+=" -std=c++11", I guess. The current release (and all future ones) should already be compatible with the C++11 standard, although we don't yet require it. Bug#690858: grace: source-hardening.diff breaks SVG output formatting
Package: Grace Version: 1:5.1.22-13 Hi Nicholas, The recent source-hardening.diff patch appears to break SVG output formatting. Please see the original bug report in Ubuntu [1]. In particular, take a look at the output obtained when running: gracebat -hardcopy -hdevice SVG I have attached a pair of files good.svg (from unpatched grace source), and bad.svg (with source-hardening.diff applied). In the bad.svg file, take a look at the end of the text style=font-family:' lines... the contents of the tag is malformed e.g. 0.2)0.2 on line 37 instead of just 0.2. The relevant section of the source-hardening.diff patch is as follows. Perhaps it's just that the format string is incorrect? At first glance, it looks like it should be just %s rather than %s%s because only one string is being passed to fprintf. Bug#673834: New upstream version available 5.0
Package: espresso A new upstream version (5.0) was released on 17 May 2012. Please consider updating the Debian package. Upstream changelog is as follows: New in 5.0 version * More ways of calculating electron-phonon coefficients. * Full DFT+U scheme (with J and additional parameters) implemented. Should work also for fully-relativistic calculations. * band parallelization for Green function sum in EXX (memory replication). Incompatible changes in 5.0 version: * Postprocessing codes dos.x, bands.x, projwfc.x, now use namelist dos, bands, projwfc respectively, instead of inputpp * Directory reorganization: whole packages into subdirectories, almost nothing is in the same directory where it used to be. * atomic masses in the code are in amu unless otherwise stated * Options 'cubic'/'hexagonal' to CELL_PARAMETERS removed: it is no longer useful, the code will anyway find the correct sym.ops. * Options 'bohr'/'angstrom'/'alat' to CELL_PARAMETERS implemented * -DEXX no longer required for exact exchange or hybrid functionals * PHonon: input variable 'elph' replaced by 'electron_phonon' Fixed in 5.0 version * Missing checks for unimplemented cases with electric fields * CP with electric fields wasn't working any longer in parallel due to an unallocated variable * VERY NASTY bug: exchange-correlation keyword 'PW91' was incorrectly interpreted (PZ LDA instead of PW) in all 4.3.x versions * A few glitches when the standard input is copied to file * PW: LDA+U crash in the final step of a vc-relax run, due to a premature deallocation of a variable * PW: constraint 'atomic direction' on noncolinear magnetization wasn't working properly * PW: tetrahedra were not working with magnetic symmetries, and not yet working in the noncolinear case as well. * Velocity rescaling in variable-cell MD wasn't really working * Workaround for frequent crashes in PAW with vc-relax * In some cases spin-polarized HSE was yielding NaN's * Two instances of an array not always allocated passed as variable to routine (init_start_k and dynmatrix.f90) - harmless but not nice * disk_io='low' or 'none' wasn't working if a wavefunction file from a previous run was found * CP + OpenMP without MPI wasn't working with ultrasoft pseudopotentials * Bug in CASINO to UPF converter * Bug in k-point generation in the noncollinear case * ESM with spin polarization fixed * Weird problem with irreps in PHonon * Bug in turbo_lanczos.x . Restarts of polarizations other than ipol=1 or ipol=4 were not working properly due to buggy test_restart routine. Hi Nicholas, I guess this is an Ubuntu-specific issue then... Bug#642260: mpb uses deprecated scm_must_malloc() function
Package: mpb Version: 1.4.2-16 Forwarded from Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mpb/+bug/855044 Guile returns a deprecation warning whenever mpb is executed. This occurs because since guile-1.8, the scm_must_malloc() function has been replaced by scm_gc_malloc(). In fact, scm_must_malloc just returns a pointer to the scm_gc_malloc function, so this problem could be solved by a very simple find/replace patch. A better solution would involve using the scm_effective_version() function to provide backward compatibility with guile-1.6. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi John, I'm looking through some of the old bug reports for Inkscape in Debian. You reported the following some time ago: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=563817 We can only really deal with the direct dependencies... everything else is brought in indirectly via another package. Of the packages you mentioned, we have: aspell (Recommended by Inkscape): Needed for spellchecker functionality perlmagick (Recommended by Inkscape): pstoedit (Recommended by Inkscape): It might be worth double-checking the status of the perlmagick and pstoedit dependencies. Bug#459638: inkscape displays and exports Helvetica R wrong
tags 459638 moreinfo thanks Hi Andreas, I am checking up on a few old Debian bugs. You reported the following: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=459638 I think this is likely to be a pstoedit issue... * When I try the SVG file you attached, I can reproduce the bug... the font appears incorrectly in Inkscape, eog and rsvg-view. This is apparently because the SVG text element contains the CSS style attribute: font-family:'Helvetica',sans-serif. The Helvetica font specification is quoted. If you get rid of the quotation marks, the font appears correctly in all three viewers. * When I generate the SVG file myself, using pstoedit 3.50-3, I find that the font appears correctly in all three viewers. Here, the font-family attribute is used directly inside the text element, and the font name is not quoted. Please could you let me know if you still experience the problem with a newer version of pstoedit? Bug#635244: Package description is not user friendly
Package: inkscape Version: 0.48.1-2.1 Forwarded from Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/inkscape/+bug/811634 The package description for Inkscape is not very user-friendly. It includes the names of several technical packages, has a lot of specific (and mostly irrelevant) technical information and does not focus on tasks that the user might want to perform. The package description should be updated, following the advice given in the Packaging Guide: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Howtos/UsefulDescription This will make it more likely that non-technical users looking for a vector editor will find Inkscape. Suggested description: Inkscape is an illustration editor which has everything you need to create professional-quality computer art. You can use it to make diagrams and illustrations, technical drawings, web graphics, clip art, icons and logos. A collection of hands-on tutorials show you how to combine lines, shapes, and text of different types and styles to build up a picture. A selection of powerful vector graphics editing tools comes as standard. There is excellent support for paths, gradients, layers, alpha transparency, and text flow control. An extensive library of filters allow you to apply realistic effects, and extensions allow you to work with bitmaps, barcodes and printing marks, amongst other things. Most of the common vector formats are supported, including PDF, Adobe Illustrator and AutoCAD files, and it has unrivalled support for the SVG web graphics standard. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#627637: JessyInk: Embedded Javascript Broken
forwarded 627637 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/602005 tags 627637 confirmed thanks Hi Johannes, Thanks for reporting this. I can confirm that the problem also exists downstream in Ubuntu. Essentially the problem arose because there were a number of scripts with missing shebang (#!) lines. An initial proposal was made for a patch upstream to fix this, and the patch has been added to the Debian package as 02-add-shebangs-and-fix-permissions.dpatch. However, this initial draft of the patch mistakenly added shebangs to the JessyInk scripts which are only ever supposed to be embedded in SVG files. The patch that was finally applied upstream corrected this mistake. Bug#614102: grace: Upstream Makefile strips debugging symbols before debian debug packages can be made
Package: grace Version: 1:5.1.22-9 Hi Nicholas, I reported a bug against the grace package in Ubuntu, and I'm forwarding it to you in case it is of interest to Debian... When the grace package is built in Ubuntu, a ddeb package is supposed to be generated by the dh_strip command (with pkg-create-dbgsym). The grace Makefile, however, strips the grace executable before pkg-create-dbgsym gets a chance! As a result, there is no easy way for Ubuntu users to run a decent backtrace on grace segfaults. This can be fixed by patching the makefile to remove the -s flag from the install command. Bug#614152: grace: build against external libxbae
Package: grace Version: 1:5.1.22-9 Severity: wishlist Hi Nicholas, Any thoughts about whether it's best to build grace against the Debian package of libxbae-dev, or the internal bundled version of the library? The grace source package currently states that it is not recommended to use the upstream Xbae package owing to the presence of several bugs. However, there have been a few new releases of the upstream version since the version in Grace (4.7), which have fixed a lot of bugs... Given that development of Grace and Xbae have both been a little slow over the last few years, I guess it would be worth assessing which version of Xbae is more reliable. From what I can see, version 0.47.0-2+b1 of inkscape (Debian) displays the bitmap fonts in its font sellection menu if these fonts are not disabled. However, nothing bad happens if the user chooses a bitmapped font -- in this case inkskape falls back to a scalable font. It would be better to remove completely the bitmapped fonts from this menu, but the current behaviour is also acceptable (in my opinion). I am unable to test this easily, because I am using Ubuntu, in which bitmap fonts are disabled by default. You can remove temporarily /etc/fonts/conf.avail/70-no-bitmaps.conf if you want to enable the bitmap fonts. In Debian these fonts are also disabled except for the Terminus font. I suppose in Ubuntu the Terminus font is also allowed (package xfonts-terminus) as this font is still useful for terminal emulators (xterm, etc.) and text editors (Emacs, gedit, etc.). Bug#611950: grace: upstream changelog is installed with incorrect name
Package: grace Version: 1:5.1.22-9 Severity: minor Hi Nicholas, A local build of grace_5.1.22-9 in Ubuntu raised the lintian warning: wrong-name-for-upstream-changelog. This occurs because Debian policy dictates that the upstream changelog should be installed to /usr/share/doc/grace/changelog.gz but we install it to /usr/share/doc/grace/CHANGES.html. The relevant policy section can be found at http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-changelogs I believe the reason why this is happening, is that we include the HTML version of the upstream changelog in the debian/grace.docs file in the source package which is parsed by dh_installdocs. Instead, we should use dh_installchangelogs to create a compressed, plain-text copy of the changelog. I have attached a copy of the debdiff I submitted to Ubuntu, which I believe solves the problem. You can use a workaround of adjusting keys.xml. Bug#609960: qtiplot depends on transitonal sip4 packages
Package: qtiplot User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu natty ubuntu-patch Version: 0.9.8.2-1 Severity: minor Tags: patch python-sip4 is a transitional package which depends upon python-sip. Its description states that It can be safely removed. The qtiplot package therefore needs to be updated, to depend upon python-sip rather than python-sip4. There are also a couple of redundant build dependencies: sip4 - python-sip-dev python-sip4-dev - python-sip-dev In Ubuntu, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following: * debian/control: Update sip dependencies to avoid using transitional packages (LP: #702853) Thanks for considering the patch. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers natty-updates APT policy: (500, 'natty-updates'), (500, 'natty-security'), (500, 'natty-proposed'), (500, 'natty-backports'), (500, 'natty') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.37-12-generic (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash qtiplot_0.9.8.2-1ubuntu3.debdiff Description: Binary data
Bug#538351: inkscape: work area is huge.
Hi Ryo, Did you see the comment in the upstream tracker: Does it help if you toggle on the sticky zoom (upper right corner of the canvas, or 'Inkscape Preferences Windows Miscellaneous: [x] Zoom when window is resized) and reopen the EPS file in a new window? If I open the EPS file, select the sticky zoom as described above and then maximise the window, the drawing remains a sensible size. Is this the case for you too? When you get lost in that sea of whiteness in a high zoom-in level and cannot find your picture, you first press the 4 key (Zoom to Drawing) and then + . . . to return to your original zoom level. Right? Thanks for your help with the upstream, too. Cheers, Ryo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#366797: inkscape: cannot open/import .eps file
Hi Umarzuki, I'm going through some old bug reports for the Inkscape package in Debian. Are you still experiencing problems with importing EPS files? If so, please could you make sure that you have installed all the recommended and suggested packages and try again? Bug#579853: inkscape: PNG export does not work
tags 579853 = moreinfo thanks Hi Mathieu, I have tried this again using inkscape_0.48.0-1ubuntu2. If I export the image with the default resolution of 90 dpi, then the dotted line disappears. However, if I repeat this with 600 dpi the image exports correctly. I don't think this is really a bug in Inkscape. When you export at 90 dpi, you will only see features with sizes greater than ~0.011 inches. The dotted line in your drawing is set at a width of 0.01 inch, so that is why you can't see it in the exported PNG. Please can you confirm that the problem goes away if you increase the export resolution?
