Bug#1030620: skanpage: should depend/sugest on tesseract-ocr-lang/uage

2023-11-24 Thread Alice Berg

Hello,

I wanted to scan a page quickly on KDE. I tried skanpage and it crashed.
I could find a solution for myself (installing the tesserect lang
package).

Skanpage crashes if *no* tesseract-ocr-lang package
is installed and the default option "use ocr" is used for exporting a
pdf. So if a user doesn't uncheck that default option or doesn't install
a tesseract ocr lang package the application crashes.

I think changing the default configuration of the application (making
the option to use ocr not the default option) or inluding a tesseract
ocr lang package as a dependency would solve the issue.

The current default configuration of skanpage causing the program to
crash as

when trying to export as PDF as described above.

I think the default configuration of the package should allow the user
to make a scan and exporting it to a pdf without having to adjust the
configuration.

Thanks

Bug#941109: gnome-core: Mouse disappears in bars, menus

2019-09-24 Thread Alice Vixie
Package: gnome-core
Version: 1:3.30+2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Since Gnome update in Debian 10 testing somewhere around September 15, 2019
mouse pointer started to disappear whenever it gets to any menu, task bar,
activity sidebar.

When mouse gets to menu or taskbar etc. , it becomes invisible. The only hint
to use it is - only sometimes - grey square that highlites the active item.
However even this may or may not appear.

Bug#901550: linux-image-4.16.0-2-amd64: Audio stops playing from speaker in ~3 mins

2018-06-14 Thread Alice Vixie
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.16.12-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When I want to play an audio from any source (Chromium, VLC, ...) over built-in
speakers in my laptop Lenovo X201, it stops playing in 2-3 minutes. I don't
observe the same effect when playing audio over a bluetooth speaker or even
analog jack phones.

No, the problem isn't caused by audio being redirected to some other BT device
as you'd think.

This situation started some month ago.

The situation remains that way for another ~5 minutes, I guess something gets
restarted then?

Bug#897056: kdump grub cmdline value squashes user-provided one

2018-04-27 Thread Alice Goldfuss
Package: kdump-tools
Version: 1:1.6.3-2

Kernel: 4.9.0-0.bpo.5-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.65-3+deb9u2~bpo8+1
(2017-01-05) x86_64 GNU/Linux
Lib: 2.19-18+deb8u10

Perhaps related to #877250

The package adds this value to kdump-tools.grub.default:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="$GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
crashkernel=384M-:128M"

This setting may work for most boxes, but we have kubernetes hosts with
large memory footprints that need at least 256M.

We set this value in Puppet, but the package value is added after it in the
cmdline and therefore trumps it:

BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.9.0-0.bpo.5-amd64  crashkernel=256M  crashkernel=384M-:128M

So, when these boxes crash, they get stuck (with no logging indicating what
the issue is) and don’t come back without manual intervention. They also
don’t record a crash dump.

I chased this bad behavior for 3+ months and would really like to see it
resolved at the package level.

My suggestion is to remove the value or replace it with crashkernel=auto
where supported. Also, better logging (something like “Unable to create
crash dump. Crashkernel size too small.”) would have helped me solve this
issue in a day.

Thanks!
Alice

 Hello,

 Attached new patchset.

 1) Run checkarray for 1h every day, doing 1/CHECK_SPLIT of job.
 2) CHECK_SPLIT tunable via /etc/default/mdadm or by --split option
 3) Introduced --interrupt and --cancel options (last one --interrupt
current arrays check *and* reset sync_min/sync_max to default).

Remaining issue: multiple arrays, sharing common physical disks. We
can set /sys/block/mdX/md/sync_force_parallel to 1 temporary while
doing checks. It's easy doable, but may introduce some problems.
 Another solution (looks ugly): pooling
 /sys/block/mdX/md/sync_completed *and* cancel check when
 sync_completed equal to sync_max.

PS: Looks like there is no chance to enter any solution for this
whishlist item to Wheezy. But it would be really nice to see anything
from the maintainers, related to suggested above implementations.

I'm looking for someone to take over maintenance of the nautilus-actions
package. I don't really use this package, and I want to focus my Debian
contributions more on bugtracking and other areas.

I have included debian-gtk-gnome@ and debian-women@ on this bug report
because:

a) the package is maintained in the pkg-gnome repository, though it is
not an official gnome package

b) I am willing to mentor/sponsor someone who takes over this package,
especially women, so if someone from either of these lists is looking
for a package to maintain, I would help you get up to speed here.

Please let me know if you are interested in working on this package!
There is a new version that needs to be uploaded, and I can get you on
the package maintainer's list. Upstream is quite responsive and
receptive.

cheers,
Christine

/usr/bin/hostid should do. I am a little sceptical about using
 a non-standard approach for this.

 This seems better:

 06 19:40 jcristau madduck: echo $(($RANDOM % 28))
 /var/lib/mdadm/mdadmday on first install

And I think it could even be exported with debconf (priority low).

Want to send a patch? ;)

That's great, I suggest that you get yourself acquainted with the
package a bit and maybe start off by creating patches (debdiffs or

 Does that sound good?

I request assistance with maintaining the mdadm package. I can still
maintain it, but would like to pass it to someone else in the long
run, so now would be a good time to get into it.

 The package description is:
The mdadm utility can be used to create, manage, and monitor MD
(multi-disk) arrays for software RAID or multipath I/O.
  .
This package automatically configures mdadm to assemble arrays during the
system startup process. If not needed, this functionality can be disabled.

The API has only two static methods: normalize and isNormalized.
It comes with full source code available under a BSD-style license, so
you can experiment with it and use it in your own applications. This
page leads into the Google Maps client-side mashup page to display the
catalog items on the map for the category you selected.
Traditionally, server-side web applications have focused on generating

Although different architectures allow the three components to interact
in different ways, Figure 1 shows a common implementation of the MVC
design pattern, as shown in the Sun BluePrints Catalog. Once you find
it, you invoke the method using the new value.
This typically means that any user actions that are performed on the

between Gregorian and Imperial calendars is most obvious when you format

made for accompanying data and multipart mime overhead.
The Imperial calendar defines eras based on the reigning period of
Japanese emperors.
Controller - The controller translates the user's interactions with the
view into actions that the model will perform.
This class consists of only property constants and methods called by the
GUI event listeners of the view. The BluePrints team created the Java

The use of Ajax avoids a whole-page refresh.
Using this modified MVC helps to more completely decouple the model from
the view.
The JavaScript technology may then use this data to update or modify the
Document Object Model (DOM) of the HTML page.
View - The view renders the contents of a model.
One of this article's authors uploaded a photo of Harry, a barracuda she

each pet and add one of your own.
