Bug#1021327: firefox-esr: TPM not usable

2022-10-05 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: firefox-esr
Version: 102.3.0esr-1~deb11u1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: bjoernsie...@web.de

Dear Maintainer,

I reported this bug on Bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1793854

Steps to reproduce:
Tried to make a sample registration using FIDO2/WebAuthn Authentication method
on https://webauthn.io/

Actual results:
Text is displayed that I should connect a secure token although my computer has
a TPM

Expected results:
Firefox to connect to the TPM and offer to use it.

I tried to fix this by registering a PKCS#11 module in Firefox on my Debian 11
GNU/Linux desktop. Did not succeed.
On my Android phone the exact same thing in the Firefox browser app worked
using the TPM. As far as I know on Windows it also works.

Dear Maintainer,

whenever I open any spreadsheet document the locale setting is reset to
"English (USA)" although I always then change the setting to "Deutsch
(Deutschland)".

Thank you for looking into this!

Bug#851609: gnome-packagekit: update-finished notification persists after update on shutdown

2017-01-16 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: gnome-packagekit
Version: 3.14.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
On shutdown, I was asked if I wanted to do updates during shutdown. I clicked
on the checkbox. The system did a restart, but I cut off the power (in order to
do the updating later) during the BIOS screen (before grub).

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Later, I started the computer, the update went fine (I think) and after login a
notification was shown that updates have been successfully installed. Fine,
but...

   * What was the outcome of this action?
then after every login this notification is now shown, independent on any
updates been installed or not.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
The notification to show up once after the update, not always.

I had the same problem on a different computer runnig the same version of
Debian.

Bug#820182: linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64: freezes on scrolling in iceweasel

2016-04-07 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.16.7-ckt25-1
Followup-For: Bug #820182

Hey there,

just had the same problem on scrolling through a LibreOffice Writer docuement
containing graphics (GDI MetaFile). It does not occur if I change the cursor's
position, but only when scrolling with the mouse reel or by dragging the
scrolling bar on the right side of the window.

Cheers,
Björn

Bug#820182: linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64: freezes on scrolling in iceweasel

2016-04-06 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.16.7-ckt25-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I opened Iceweasel.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)?

I scrolled on a Wordpress or Twitter webpage. (Tried it with other pages, but
bug did not happen.)

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Total freeze. No keybord or mouse operation possible.
I also tried iceweasel in safe-mode, but the same thing happens.

I tried this with my another installation (different hardware) and could not
confirm the bug. I gues it is an issue with the graphics card. Maybe this is a
duplicate of bug #710047, but the system protocol looks totally different here:

Bug#793960: cron-apt: package should be included in standard installation

Hi Ola,

thank you for answering in such detail!

My suggestion is to activate a daily check for updates by default. If
apt is configured to do this, that is fine with me.

> I would not argue against having it part of the standard installation,

This is not just a useful feature, but a very recommendable feature to
keep the system safe at all times. Let's be realistic: An average user
will not check for updates on a daily basis although this would be a
recommendable behaviour.

> Regarding linking in cron.daily it has been requested before but I do

If there is not network there will be no check for updates. Where is the
problem? You will not be bothered...

> In that case it would actually
> hurt more than it do good.

... and it will especially not "hurt".

> Another point is that it does not help to

I do not know much about cron, but I am very sure there is a workaround.

I tried this both with and without sudo:

I then tried to ping.

$ ping db-printer.fritz.box:8611

Then I looked up the IP adress and changed the router to give the
printer a fixed IP adress.

This worked!
So I did some tests by changing the URI in settings.

Finally, I removed the package cups-backend-bjnp. Everything still works!

Bug#795404: cups-backend-bjnp: stops printing after some lines

Hi Brian,

thank you for your answer!

>> Clicked on "print" in LOWriter.

Using lp doesn't make any difference, but I now understood the problem
better. Because actually printing never worked: When I "successfully"
tested for the first time I only used one line of text. Now I see the
problem is that you can print one line and even some more, but after
approximately one third of the page the printer stops and the error is
displayed. This is independent of lp or LibreOffice.

> Switching db-printer.fritz.box and the printer off
> for a few minutes before reconnecting the power is worth a go.

Of course I switched the printer on and off - that didn't change
anything. I don't know what you mean by switching off
db-printer.fritz.box. This is just the network adress of the printer.

The setup is:
Printer -(WiFi)- Router -(WiFi)- Laptop

> Pinging the server while printing would test
> it doesn't disappear.

What do you mean by that? Ping the router? Ping cups (which is on my
laptop)?
I once saw that http://localhost:631/ was unreachable for some time
after the error, but I can't reproduce that now. Maybe it's an issue
with cups?!

Also I saw that when switching on the printer there is a message
"backend failed" in the status of the preferences dialogue. When I
activate the printer this message vanishes. But I can't remember this
behaviour from earlier tries.

Thank you very much for your help!

Bug#795404: cups-backend-bjnp: stops printing after some lines

2015-08-13 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: cups-backend-bjnp
Version: 1.2-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Yesterday I newly installed my Canon Pixma MG6650 - it worked. I successfully
printed some pages. Today, after having changed nothing, I tried it again.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Clicked on "print" in LOWriter.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The printer started with the first lines of the document and then stopped. The
printer's display showed a printing process going on. The queue told me there
was no connection ("printer connected?"). I used the troubleshooting dialogue
(protocol attached).

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
That the printer makes it to the end of the page.

Bug#793960: cron-apt: package should be included in standard installation

2015-07-29 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: cron-apt
Version: 0.9.2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I suggest this package to be included in the standard installation. From my
view, it is essential for keeping a system secure to have all packages updated
regularly by default.

Moreover the standard configuration should be that /usr/sbin/cron-apt is linked
by /etc/cron.daily/cron-apt so that the script runs on startup not only during
the night as the current configuration.

As long as no package is updated by default I don't see any risk, but only big
advantages.

I think it is especially important to include cron-apt in the standard
installation because I thought myself safe falsely after installation:
Supposedly due to a fresh "apt-get update" during install process one of the
first things a fresh Debian installation does is display a "new updates"
notification. So the user - in this case me - thinks that this is a
preconfigured feature and that there is nothing more to do. It took me months
to discover by accident that this is not true.

I am open for any discussion! Thanks!
Björn

Bug#791712: icedove: checks for compatibility of add-ons every time

2015-07-10 Thread Björn Siebke

Hey Carsten,

> I assume you will not getting this output.
>
>   user_pref("extensions.lastAppVersion", "31.0.7");
>   user_pref("extensions.lastPlatformVersion", "31.0.7");

you are absolutely right! That solved it - thank you!
Although it might still be a bug...

The solution was easy then: I had two profile folders. One was an old
one still left from the migration of my data to this installation of
Icedove. I did exactly as recommended for data migration: I copied the
old profile before I first started Icedove. So possible bug #1 is that
the program might have created a second profile which it should not do,
right?

And possible bug #2 is: Why did the old profile have such an influence?
The new profile had the correct version in prefs.js only the old one had
31.6.0 in the prefs. And profiles.ini points to the new profile:

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=[new profile ID].default

Maybe it could be worth to look into this.

Bug#791900: redshift: changes colour temperature when using Nautilus

2015-07-09 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: redshift
Version: 1.9.1-4
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I opened a Nautilus window.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I right-clicked on a file and clicked on "move to wastebin".

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The screen changes whitebalance (supposedly to the "normal" colour temperature)
and only changes back when I click on anything else of the Nautilus window.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
That the screen keeps the daytime-dependant whitebalance.

2015-07-07 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: icedove
Version: 31.7.0-1~deb8u1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Starting Icedove.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Waiting for the program to start.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
Wizard displays waiting bar while checking if add-ons are compatible with "new
version" although this is no newly installed version of Icedove.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
To only check for compatibility of add-ons once after updating Icedove.

Thanks and bye!

Bug#721036: bluetooth: hci0 command 0x200c tx timeout

2015-05-28 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: bluetooth
Version: 5.23-2
Followup-For: Bug #721036

Dear Maintainer,

maybe I have a similar problem.

   * What led up to the situation?
I switched on bluetooth mode both at my radio and my laptop.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I successfully connected both, changed audio output to the radio and also
succeeded with this (the sound from the radio speakers was perfect).

   * What was the outcome of this action?
But then after some time playback stops.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Playback to continue.

Maybe this helps:

Bug#787086: totem: cuts off lower half of subtitles in Matroska files

2015-05-28 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: totem
Version: 3.14.0-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I created Matroska files with Handbrake. I included subtitles in those files.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
In Totem I activated the subtitles.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The subtitles showed, but only the upper half. The lower half would be located
below the range of the video (in the black area), but it does not show there.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I expected the subtitles to be shown as done by my TV which played the exact
file with complete subtitles.

Bug#787003: virtualbox: VM fails to start

Hey Gianfranco,

sorry to disappoint you, but I think it's not a dupe. As far as I can
see, that would mean changing the 3D acceleration status fixes my
problem, right?
But this doesn't change anything.

Bug#787003: virtualbox: VM fails to start

2015-05-27 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: virtualbox
Version: 4.3.18-dfsg-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
After having some kernel module issues, I successfully created a new VM.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I then started the VM for the first time. The VM window opens and the GUI asks
me to select the boot media. I do that.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
I get a message window "Starting virtual machine..." with 0%. Nothing changes,
only after a while the main window (not the VM window) opens a new message
window "Starting virtual machine..." with 20%. Even after a very long while
nothing changes.
When I kill the VM window (second virtualbox process) I get this error message
in the main window: "Für die virtuelle Maschine Test konnte keine neue Sitzung
eröffnet werden.
[No new session could be opened for the VM.]
No error info.

Fehlercode:NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED (0x800706BE)
Komponente:ProgressProxy
Interface:IProgress {c20238e4-3221-4d3f-8891-81ce92d9f913}"

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
The VM to start the boot media.

2015-05-26 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: deja-dup
Version: 32.0-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I opened the configuration of Deja Dup. There I clicked on the lists for
including and excluding directories.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I entered new directories to include and exclude.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
It worked, but after visiting the lists again in both cases the newly added
entried were doubled. After removing the double entries and visiting the lists
again the double entries showed again.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Single entries.

Bug#785600: xdg-utils: xdg-open fails to open audio and video files in totem

2015-05-18 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: xdg-utils
Version: 1.1.0~rc1+git20111210-7.4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

as originally reported in bug #784735...

   * What led up to the situation?
A program (in my case gpodder) uses xdg-open to open audio and video files.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
When starting a media file ...

   * What was the outcome of this action?
only a "Videos" (Totem) window opens with no option to start the file.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
That the file is directly being played or, at least, that I have the option to
play it by clicking a "play" button.

There is a workaround which should be included in the package: Using the
command

totem --play %U

works just fine. This command should be used in xdg-open, too.

Package: gramps
Version: 4.1.1~dfsg-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I clicked on the "tool" button of a gramplet. The gramplet was detached.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I then clicked on "close".

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The program window closed. The program crashed.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
The gramplet window to close and the program to continue to work.

Bug#784735: gpodder: wrong standard media player

2015-05-15 Thread Björn Siebke
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

> This is probably not a bug in gPodder itself. Does opening the
downloaded files work if you use xdg-open on the files?

This leads to the same result.

> Does it work when you double-click the downloaded files in the file
manager?

This works perfectly.

> For which podcast/feed does this happen, and what is the file type of
the episodes?

I tried it with two audio feeds (using mp3) and two video feeds (using
mp4). It is always the same (bad) result.

So it is rather a problem of xdg-open?

Greets,

Bug#784737: gnome-clocks: clock applet miscalculates space for text in accessibility mode

2015-05-08 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: gnome-clocks
Version: 3.14.1-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I activated big letters in accessibility options.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I opened the clock applet at the top of the desktop.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The calendar entries were displayed correctly, but exceeded the window size. So
some of the calendar entries were displayed outside the window on the raw
desktop.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
That either the window is made bigger according to the text size. Or that less
calendar entries are displayed so that the text fits the window.

Bug#784735: gpodder: wrong standard media player

2015-05-08 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: gpodder
Version: 3.8.1-1
Severity: important

Trying to play audio podcasts in Debian 8 does not work due to wrong standard
configuration.

Gpodder references the standard audio player, which is Totem. But when starting
a podcast episode from Gpodder only a "Videos" (Totem) window opens with no
option to start the episode.

There is a workaround which should be included in the package: If you change
the audio player to "Videos" totem and manually edit the command to

totem --play %U

then everything works just fine.

Bug#783875: playonlinux: "Error in POL_Wine", fails to install new programs

2015-05-03 Thread Björn Siebke
I discovered that Wine was missing i386-support. After installing wine32
the problems vanished (others appeared).

So why does POL display such a vague message? This needs to be changed.

Bug#783875: playonlinux: "Error in POL_Wine", fails to install new programs

2015-04-30 Thread Björn Siebke
Package: playonlinux
Version: 4.2.5-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I tried out to install two new programs, one that is listed, one that is not.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
In both cases the wizard for installing opened. In the case of the not-listed
program I chose 32 bit installation. When I chose 64bit the process continued,
but led to another bug (not described here). In the case of the listed program
(tax software ElsterFormular) PlayOnLinux downloaded Wine 1.6 again (although
the very same version is already installed from the official resources).

   * What was the outcome of this action?
In the end I got this error message: "Error in POL_Wine // Wine scheint
abgestürzt zu sein // Wenn Ihr Programm weiter läuft, ignorieren Sie diese
Nachricht" (english: Wine seems to have crashed. If your program continues,
ignore this message.) The message is displayed repeatedly after every step of
the installation process. In the end the program is not installed. When I am
told only to click on continue after the installation is finished I wait for
hours, but nothing happens. Clicking on "continue" means the program is not
installed.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
That everything works fine. ;)
