Bug#465552: RFA: manpages-zh

2008-02-12 Thread Carlos Z.F. Liu
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

As I don't have enough free time to maintain the package, and
a friend from debian-zh community is willing to work on it, I
orphan the package for him. Thanks.

Bug#384019: vim-runtime: [NONFREE-DOC:OPL] vim's user manual and reference manual are not DFSG free

2006-08-21 Thread Carlos Z.F. Liu
Package: vim-runtime
Version: 1:7.0-035+1
Severity: serious
Justification: DFSG

Hi,

Currently, part of vim's documents (user manaul and reference manual)
are using OPL license, which is considered as DFSG-incompatible[1]. You
can verify this info by typing :help manual-copyright in vim editor.

An letter[2] was sent to debian-legal for requesting comments.

Thanks.

They use OPL because some parts of the manual are come from the book
Vi IMproved - Vim by Steve Oualline. The Open Publication License
  applies to this book.

Are you sure this is the reason why they use that license?

Looking at :help manual-copyright does not give any hint that this is
the case, it just states that parts of the book are in the manual and
that the book is under OPL as well.

Oops, you are right, thanks for the correction.

Bug#381436: lists.debian.org: debian-chinese-gb web archive encoding error

2006-08-04 Thread Carlos Z.F. Liu
Package: lists.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

It seems that our mailing list software have serious encoding error on
debian-chinese-gb archive. Look on the web archive in recent 3 months,
most chinese mails are displayed as garbage. Changing character set in
web browser doesn't help at all.

There are at least two different situations:

1. Mails in UTF-8 encoding
Both subject and body are totally messed. Every chinese character
is displayed as an accented character, like ä or å. Such as,
   Re: æåmuttääçéäåèçéé [1].

2. Mails in gb2312/gb18030 base64/quotedprint encoding
These mails' content can be displayed correctly. But titles are
not decoded and showed as raw text. such as,
   =?gb2312?b?UmU6IHFyZWYguPHKvdDe1f0=?= [2]
But, if the mail is claimed as gbk encoding, everything looks
   correct. Here[3] is an example.
(gb2312 is the subset of gbk, gbk is the subset of gb18030)

Although our chinese lists are called ...-gb and ...-big5, but most
people are using UTF-8 encoding nowadays. So if we have only one
decoding choice, I suggest UTF-8.

Confirmed. It should be a bug in python-chm 0.8.3. You can bypass the

Bug#378007: strange xfonts-wqy problem on update-fonts-alias

2006-07-12 Thread Carlos Z.F. Liu
Package: xfonts-wqy
Version: 0.7.0-6-1
Severity: important

Hi Qian,

I just found a strange problem in xfonts-wqy 0.7-6-1. I have no idea how
it comes.

In my local verion, there is update-fonts-alias in postinst and postrm.
It is inserted by dh_installxfonts automatically as well as
update-fonts-dir command. But it doesn't exist in the package you
uploaded to offical archive. Comparing following code:

= my local version =
# Automatically added by dh_installxfonts
if which update-fonts-dir /dev/null 21; then
update-fonts-dir --x11r7-layout misc;update-fonts-alias misc
fi
# End automatically added section

= offical package =
# Automatically added by dh_installxfonts
if which update-fonts-dir /dev/null 21; then
update-fonts-dir --x11r7-layout misc
fi
# End automatically added section

I also check the official ubuntu package which is just a rebuild of our
debian package. It doesn't have this bug.

Is this a problem of your building system? Please have a look.

Thanks.

Carlos, this is due to a bug in intltool 0.35 which requires
intltoolizing if you run aclocal. So the solution is to regenerate
70_relibtoolize_noguesssub.patch but run intltoolize --force --copy
  too, not only libtoolize.

Hi Loïc,

I tried many times with various order and combination of libtoolizing
and intltoolize command. I also reverted back to intltool 0.34. But all
of them result the same error. I'm totally lost in these tools now. :-)

Finally, I found two ways to generate a correct binary:

1. Don't relibtoolize it;
2. Relibtoolize it and replace
datarootdir='${prefix}/share'
datadir='${datarootdir}'
   with
datarootdir='${prefix}/share'
datadir='${prefix}/share'
   in ${SRCROOT}/configure script.

It seems that the building system doesn't process the datarootdir and
datadir correctly. I'm not sure how to handle this. Could you help me
on it?

Thanks.

Yes, I'm aware of that and it's intentional, because leafpad 0.8.9 use
gnomeprint library to do printing work. If I open it, it will involve a
huge mount of gnome dependency which isn't most leafpad users wanted.

I haven't investigated how to revert back to old lp print method.
Another possible solution is generating two binary packages, one with
gnome dependencies and printing function and another one without.

Any suggestion? Thanks!

When I installed gnucash this morning, some network problems caused a
download failure. But before the failure, gnucash-common package was
downloaded and it's installed correctly. This make a menu entry in GNOME
menu without corresponding executable binary file. I think the .desktop
file should be move to gnucash package where /usr/bin/gnucash belong to.

Thanks!

Bug#372474: gnochm: segfault with python2.3-gtk2 2.6.1

 I
fixed it by upgrading my python2.3-gtk2 package from version 2.6.1-2

2.8.2-3. This caused python2.3-glade2 to be upgraded and
 python2.3-cairo to

 the
versions of python2.3-gtk2 and python2.3-glade2 required for gnochm,
 but I
thought someone should know. Maybe my python setup was simply in a
 weird
 state.

2006-05-20 Thread Carlos Z.F. Liu
Package: python-gnome2-extras

Justification: breaks unrelated software

Currently, neither python2.3-gnome2-extras nor python2.4-gnome2-extras depend

These packages probably will depend on libxul0d in the furture, if it can be

Bug#355094: can't train dspam with hash drive

2006-03-03 Thread Carlos Z.F. Liu
Package: dspam
Version: 3.6.4-1
Severity: normal

I installed dspam on my system from experimental and try to test it
under a single user environment (use it with procmail and mutt). But
unlucky, I met following problem.

First, install dspam with apt-get install dspam, then run dspam_stats
with dspam_stats -H root. At this stage, I can see root.css and
root.lock in /var/spool/dspam/data/local/root directory. But after I
train it with dspam_corpus --spam root /tmp/spam.mbox, two files under
above direcotry wasn't touched. The new result of dspam_stats is exactly
same as the one before training.

Is there anything wrong with my experiment?

Thanks.

Hello Martin,

I talked with Dennis about maintaining deb package for Debian today, but
just before I upload my package to mentors.debian.net, I found this ITP
bug. It's 3 month old now. Are you still want to maintain this package?

Anyway, I will upload my deb package to http://mentors.debian.net and
http://apt.debian.org.tw shortly.

Thanks.

Hi Fabio,

Are you still maintaining the mcatalog debian package? The newest one I
can find is 0.0.4-3 on mentors.debian.net.

I tried the current upstream tarball yesterday. My feeling is very good.
If you haven't enough time to work on it, I'd like to take this package.
If you agree, I will upload my one to mentors.debian.net.

Thanks.

I have assumed this was about that zh translation, given your domain

Thanks, bear is right. I'm working on zh_CN.po's new fuzzy and

The nmapfe command only exist in nmapfe package, so it's wrong to put
the corresponding .desktop entry in nmap package.

Thanks!

Bug#304135: scim prevent keyboard input in Tk based application

2005-04-10 Thread Carlos Z.F. Liu
Package: scim
Version: 1.0.2-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

When I set scim as my input method in ~/.xsession and startx, all Tk
based program (such as idle) wouldn't accept any keyboard input. The
scim input panel wasn't invoked, but I still can't input any english
character in text field. Even more, all menu shortcuts didn't work,
such as Ctrl+N.

In my machine, the problem happened when the environment is one of UTF-8
or zh_CN locales. Such as, en_US.UTF-8, ja_JP.UTF-8, zh_CN.UTF-8 or
zh_CN.GBK.

I knew Tk has some problems with xim, but scim is the only one that
prevents users inputting english letters.

at least this one means that vimdoc cannot be in main. that's sad.

The upstream author occasionally told me that he want to switch to
GFDL, another non-free license. :) Is there any DFSG free document
license? ... OK, I knew GPL and BSDL is, but not everyone think
docuemntation is equal to software...

But, as I knew, VIM's user manual is OPL, non-free as well. Please have
a look in /usr/share/vim/vim63/doc/usr_01.txt, *01.4* Copyright.

Yeah, I admit that the name isn't very beautiful. I have two choices,
vimdoc-cn and vimhelp-cn, because there is a vimhelp-fr already. :)

Perhaps you can try to convince upstream not to invent their own licence
(which is also not free enough for main) but instead use one of the many
other licences already available (see www.opensource.org/licenses).
Preferably of course one that's DFSG-free.

Thanks. The upstream author is thinking about this issue. But I'd like
to package it first, and switch it to main if he choose a free license
in the future.

It might be logical to use the same licence as is used by Vim itself: so
you can be sure that if you can use Vim in some context you also can use
 vimcdoc.

VIM's user manual is OPL, already non-free.

Bug#301496: Agree with Andrew on chinese-* task

2005-03-26 Thread Carlos Z.F. Liu
Hi Joey,

I'm agree with Andrew Lee in here. And if possible, language-env and
cpanel should be removed from chinese-s and chinese-s-desktop tasks
as well.

Scim-chewing is a must-have application for most Traditional Chinese
users, especially when more and more people are converting to UTF-8
local. Since scim-chewing need another 10 or more days to hit sarge
even everything goes well, I'm afraid that we haven't enough time to
push a new tasksel version before freeze. So, could you make a new
tasksel version which include scim-chewing in chinese-t-desktop task
a bit earlier? A new libchewing and scim-chewing will upload to sid
tomorrow, and we will try our best to make them in a good shape.

Thanks.

Thanks. I'm not a DD, but I'm willing to adopt this package. The
upstream translation team have released several new versions, and I
need to seperate it into 4 binary packages or more. I'm quite busy now,
and this work is a bit time consuming. So, I can't guarantee when it
will be done.

Again, thank you for working on this package and closing the bug.
