Bug#981634: OCA upgrade link

2021-02-06 Thread David Goodenough
https://github.com/OCA/OpenUpgrade[1]

You are right that it now seems to be in the form of an installable addon, and
that it comes
in two parts for the Odoo-14 branch.

*addon*
*version*
*summary*
https://github.com/OCA/OpenUpgrade/blob/14.0/openupgrade_framework[2]
14.0.1.0.0
Module to integrate in the server_wide_modules option to make upgrades between
two
major revisions.
https://github.com/OCA/OpenUpgrade/blob/14.0/openupgrade_scripts[3]
14.0.1.0.0
Module that contains all the migrations analysis and scripts for migrate Odoo
SA modules.

This looks much easier to install, and to include in the Odoo-14 package than
previous
versions.

The documentation is very out of date, stopping at Odoo-11, but there does seem
to be
(as above) an active Odoo-14 branch.

Bug#981634: odoo-14: Odoo-14 package should include the OCA upgrade process

2021-02-02 Thread David Goodenough
Package: odoo-14
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Moving between Odoo releases requires an upgrade process. The OCA have such a
process (the native Odoo one is a pay for option and thus not relevant to
Debian). This process is normally integrated with the OCA packaged Odoo
distributions.

Without the upgrade process a user would have to re-enter all the data from a
previous release in order to move to the new release, which is clearly a manual
and thus error prone process.

If the OCA upgrade process were integrated such upgrades could be done
automatically for the user, which would greatly improve the ease of use and
uptake of Odoo.

Thank you.

Bug#941257: reportbug: If you choose to save the file rather than email it, you are not given the choice were the file to be saved or told where it has been saved on exit

2019-09-27 Thread David Goodenough
Package: reportbug
Version: 7.5.3
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

In the absense of proper integration with kmail (I see there is another bug
reported about that) I use the save to file option and then load the file into
kmail to send. When you press the save to file option that is the last thing
you see, not even a console message saying where the file has been saved and
what it is called.

Being able to copy to clipboard or choose the destination directory (and
possibly even file name) would be a great boon.

Thank you

Bug#872079: Install log

2017-08-20 Thread David Goodenough
Here is the log as I drilled down the dependency tree.
Looks like a problem with libstdc++6:i386. Given that
gcc was moved to default to cpp-7 should wine32 and all
its dependencies be rebuilt with cpp 7?

I only followed part of the tree, so there might be other
problems.

Bug#872079: libwine32 will not install

2017-08-14 Thread David Goodenough
Package: libwine32
Version: 2.0.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

When I try to install wine32:i386 on an amd64 system it fails saying that
libwine32:i386 is not going to be installed. The same applies to
wine32-development.

I think the problem is actually at a much lower level and may be to do with
gcc-7 becoming the default, as lower down the dependency list it complains
about libstdc++6:i386 not being installable. Either gcc-7 is missing
something, or wine32 needs rebuilding.

.db-wal files behind and the only backend that seems to work OK is
 MYSQL...
At first view seems better, but not perfect. One of the problems with MYSQL
is that it is not as fussy about things being right and therefore will not
show up the problems that actually exist in the application.

Roll on Akonadi-next.

I tried to reproduce this problem and sure it looks scary but do we have a
 real problem beyond this warning?
In my testing this warning followed by retrying transaction and everything
works just fine so IMHO it appears to be harmless.

Besides deadlock disappear with upgrading to sqlite3/3.8.10.2-1 from
 testing.

I'm lowering severity to normal for now.
I am running sid, so I have 3.8.10.2-1 and I am still getting these deadlocks.
What gives you the idea that they shoud have gone away?

Experimentation: I fed ~500 MiB maildir folder to akonadi/sqlite and
deadlocks disappeared with upgrade of sqlite3/libsqlite. It is quite
possible that I did not test long enough however I'm trying to determine
whether it is a real error or merely a warning?
 Can you confirm?
I suspect that doing something essentially sequential does not show
deadlocks. I hit this all the time because I have LOTS of mail filters and
they seem to happen while processing those - I guess it spawns processes
at least for the spam filter.

By the way I think I've seen some quiet deadlocks (when akonadi doesn't
do anything while kmail waits for akonadi) even on backend-mysql. I
think akonadi _is_ a problem but I'm just not sure if deadlocks on
sqlite are really that bad, comparing to the whole thing.

In any case upstream admits that there are problems with concurrent
 access on sqlite backend:

 https://techbase.kde.org/Projects/PIM/Akonadi#Why_not_use_sqlite.3F

So as bad as it sounds sqlite just seems to be a poorly supported
 backend... :(
My prefered DBM is Postgresql, but it has real problems when updating
in that it does not automatically upgrade DBs on update, at least the way
that Debian packages it. Also sometimes, especially on sid you get an
update where you can not even use the supplied upgrade scripts and you
have to do it manually. Having that underlying my email system is not
an acceptable risk.

Personally I will not have MySql on my machine, I simply do not trust it.

Lots of other systems use Sqlite without problems, and I have to say that
my suspicion is that the problems with akonadi are simply becuase it was
implemented by people who did not really understand how to use an
SQL DB. For instance, a deadlock is a retryable error, you hit it, rollback
your transaction and try again. In development this can lead to problems
if you do not plan the order in which you access tables, but this is a basic
principle of all SQL DBs. So these errors should never appear as errors,
they should just trigger an internal retry.

Sqlite has had sufficient locking to get around this problem for a while
now, and this suggests tha the ordering of table access has simply not
been planned properly.

All in all this is leading me to an inexorable conclusion, I have will have
(after many many years) to give up on kmail and move to something else.
My problem is what to move to. I really would like to remain within the
KDE world as it will then be better integrated, and I need both IMAP and
POP - there appears to be little option.

Interesting. Something tells me that it must be an upstream problem but
if this is a packaging issue then perhaps we can fix it -- we just need
 more details.
There is a script that can be run (pg_upgradecluster from memory) which
does the upgrade, but the postinst for the debs does not use it. I guess
there may be times when you do not want it, and originally it did not always
work (I have been using pg for a long time), but I have never had a problem
with it other than having to run in it manually.

 Indeed.

Bad experience or abstract theory? Just curious...
Its rather like the difference between Access and MS-SQL, one is the
full function, the other is a simplified version designed to make life quick
and easy. Again this is my email system, I want something reliable and which
follows all the SQL rules (MySql and its variants do not).

Since 1.13.0-4 you should be able to use MariaDB or any other MySQL
flavour if they are any better...

Lots of other systems use Sqlite without problems,

I would also prefer SQLite if only akonadi could use it reliably...

I'm with you. I am addicted to KMail and many of its features. IMHO
there is no replacement to it... I wonder if upstream having plans to
decommission akonadi as it seems to be our only hope unless they manage
 to magically fix it...
There was talk of an Akonadi2, but I am not sure what happens to its DB
usage. The other odd thing is that if I read its architecture page on kde.org
correctly Baloo (the Nepomuk replacement) uses SqLite. I do not use Baloo
consciously, but it lurks in the bowels of KDE and seems to work.

Bug#651747: linux-image-3.1.0-1-486: dist-upgrade requested linux-headers-3.1.0-1-486 for depmod, and that failed to install

2011-12-11 Thread David Goodenough

Dear Maintainer,

I just did a dist-upgrade and this new version of linux image was installed.
During the
installation it complained when setting up the modules that
linux-headers-3.1.0-1-486 be

When I tried to install linux-headers-3.1.0-1-486 it complained of a build

suggested I look in a log file in which I found:-

Bug#640502: glxinfo

2011-09-08 Thread David Goodenough
I am running on a laptop, and have the modern X self configuration, i.e. I
have no X configuration file.

My guess is that this card is so primitive that it does not support GLX itself
and so Mesa picks it up.

BTW, sorry about not replying earlier, but for some reason the bug system did
not subscribe me so I did not see that there had been any activity.

Bug#640502: freecad: FreeCAD crashes when zooming out on large imported STL file

2011-09-05 Thread David Goodenough
Package: freecad
Version: 0.11.4446-dfsg-2+b1
Severity: normal

Following the import of a large STL file (I have tried several that I
downloaded from thingiverse.com) I tried to zoom out to view the whole item.
Whether I zoomed incrementally, or asked for the view to include the whole
item, FreeCAD crashed with:-

freecad: intel_tris.c:128: intel_extend_inline: Assertion `intel-prim.flush
== intel_flush_inline_primitive' failed.

I can supply a sample STL file (or point to a download site) but it happened
with all the large ones I tried, so I do not think it is STL file specific.

It does look (from the file name) that this might be graphic card specific (I
have an Intel chip in my laptop:-

Graphics Device (rev 02)

I used Debian on some embedded computers based on this processor:

The kit may be over 8 years old, but it runs just fine and has been running
Debian stock kernels all its life. I would like to keep it that way.

Bug#599422: akonadi-server: akonadi depends on mysql, but can also support postgresql instead

2010-10-07 Thread David Goodenough
Package: akonadi-server
Version: 1.3.1-3+b1
Severity: important

As currently packaged akonadi-server requires mysql, but the code requires
either mysql
or postgresql (up to 8.4 in the current version). The dependencies should be
changed
to allow either DB and the install script should check which is installed and
configure
for the installed one (if only one) and ask which if both installed.

This is important because there is currently no mechanism within akonadi to
migrate
later. You can change the config files and start afresh, but you can not move
data
from one DB type to another (the backup/restore are implemented using DB
specific
code).

Bug#599067: freeradius: Using JRadius requires a source rebuild

2010-10-04 Thread David Goodenough
Package: freeradius
Version: 2.1.9
Severity: wishlist

Please include the rlm_jradius module in future builds. It does not
change the dependency list (or build dependency), and it is not
enabled unless explicitly included in the config files so its
inclusion is harmless for those who do not need it.

Its all of 15K bytes as a module, and 3K of docs, so I doubt it is
worth making a separate output deb for it.

Bug#591753: libpg-java: Can't change resolved type for param: 1 from 1043 to 25 error accessing PG 8.4 DB

2010-08-05 Thread David Goodenough
Package: libpg-java
Version: 8.4-701-1
Severity: important

When using the new driver with the current PG 8.4 server I get this error which
has
apparently been fixed in CVS.

See http://lists.pgfoundry.org/pipermail/jdbc-commits/2009-December/000219.html

(as as aside, the package description says this package is for PG up to 8.3 but
the package version is 8.4!).

Bug#525978: apt-listchanges: Openoffice.org changelog always displayed in full, not delta since last update

2010-07-06 Thread David Goodenough
It does seem to happen very much less often today. I think I noticed
something which looked like it on another package, but I was in a hurry
that day and did not go right the way through the changelog. But certainly
all the openoffice.org updates recently seem no longer to be showing the
problem.

OK, remove the part about util-linux, as the last update didn't show
the bug. The openoffice.org issue remains.

So you still see this behaviour with the last apt-listchanges?

 I've tried in this situation:

 $ apt-show-versions openoffice.org
 openoffice.org/unstable upgradeable from 1:3.2.1-1 to 1:3.2.1-4

 using

and I correctly got the delta changelog between the 2 versions.

Bug#588083: arduino: version of avrdude included in Debian does not recognise AtMega8

2010-07-06 Thread David Goodenough
On Monday 05 July 2010, Ami Chayun wrote:

Your version of avrdude has a built-in support for Arduino as a

 don't.

 So all the likes like:
  diecimila.upload.protocol=stk500

 Should be:
  diecimila.upload.protocol=arduino

Tested on Arduino Diecimila with Atmega168 and it works like a charm

 Thanks,

That fixed it, thank you. So this works with an elderly Atmega8 as well as

Bug#588083: arduino: version of avrdude included in Debian does not recognise AtMega8

2010-07-04 Thread David Goodenough
Package: arduino
Version: 0018+dfsg-3
Severity: important

When I try to upload a program using the arduino workbench to an Arduino
Decimilia
AtMega8 if complains:-

avrdude: Device Signature = 0x
avrdude: Yikes! Invalid device signature
Double check connection and try again, or use -F to override

The workbench does not provide a means to specify -F.

I found a reference through google that the version of avrdude shipped with
the arduino package is patched specially to fix this problem (which I think
is something to do with the arduino bootloaded).

Please add this patch (I have no idea where is is to be found) to the Debian
version of avrdude.

Yes, you are right the logs do not show anything suspicious, but it does

Now I don't understand this. Once an HPA has been created, it will be
hidden by the drive unless the kernel or BIOS specifically overrides
this. It does not depend on the kernel to detect and implement the
HPA.

Is it possible that you have changed or reset a BIOS option that was
 overriding the HPA?

 Ben.

Another question arises, *parted still think that the device is full size

You should be able to make the kernel ignore the HPA thus:

 1. Create a file under /etc/modprobe.d containing the lines:
options ide_core nohpa=0.0
options libata ignore_hpa=1
 2. Run 'update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.32-2-686'
 3. Reboot

 Ben.

Excellent, thank you that worked. I had found the libata ignore_hpa=1
in various forums, but no one had mentioned the ide_core nohpa=0.0
and that (or rather the combination of the two) did the trick.

Can I close the bug (if so how) otherwise feel free to close it.

Given that these days (I know in the past that IBM PS/2 machines
needed an area for BIOS most of which was stored on disk) the only
use for HPA seems to be for windows reload areas, I suppose the
only question is when you would want HPA to be enabled on a linux
box?

Bug#571771: Just for the record...

2010-03-03 Thread David Goodenough
I hit this bug on a machine which I use as a sacrificial machine and
gets updated every morning from sid.

The only way I could get the latest version to install was to uninstall
the old version (I removed openoffice.org-common) and the install
openoffice.org. Both operations behaved as expected, but otherwise
I just got the dependency cycle problem.

The only new thing it install was openoffice.org-emailmerge.

I notice that openclipart was mentioned, I do not have this installed.

Bug#571761: linux-image-2.6.32-2-686: 2.6.32 required noapic on Acer Travelmate 430 where earlier kernels did not

2010-02-27 Thread David Goodenough
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-8
Severity: important

With kernels up to 2.6.26 this ancient machine did not require any special
kernel boot options, but with 2.6.32
I need to add noapic to the kernel command in grub.

If I do not add noapic the kernel gets as far as the pcmcia socket and gets
through that completely, and then hangs
competely - nothing works.

Looking in the 2.6.26 kernel dmesg just after the initialisation of the pcmcia
socket there were messages about
ACPI derived interrupts. So I thought trying noapic was worth trying noapic,
and now 2.6.32 boots normally.

This suggests that something has changed in the APIC handling for the old chip
in the 430, for the worse. Of course
now manual intervention is required to make this machine boot.

Bug#546719: freecad needs pivy which is not available

2009-09-15 Thread David Goodenough
Subject: freecad needs pivy which is not available
Package: freecad
Version: 0.8.2237-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

When I try to go into the 2D Draw workbench, freecad tries to load pivy and it
can not find it. It is not a dependency, and as far as I can tell is not
available as a Debian package. Freecad seems to recommend python-pivy, but
this does not exist, and as the 2D Draw workbench is somewhat fundamental to
using freecad it would seem that it should be a dependency not a
recommendation.

Bug#525978: apt-listchanges: Openoffice.org changelog always displayed in full, not delta since last update

2009-04-28 Thread David Goodenough
Package: apt-listchanges
Version: 2.83
Severity: important

I have a sacrificial machine which I update each morning to the latest
unstable. This machine has
apt-listchanges installed on it so that I can see what has changed. Whenever
OpenOffice.org gets
updated rather than the normal behaviour (i.e. only listing the changes since
the last update)
apt-listchanges lists the entire changelog, which is enormous. This makes
finding the changes
in other packages difficult.

I emailed Rene Engelhard r...@debian.org and he said that he is not doing
anything special
with the changelog, so he suggested that I submit this one to apt-listchanges.

Bug#514844: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: SHMConfig should default to true not false in order to support configurator programs

2009-02-11 Thread David Goodenough
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Version: 0.14.7~git20070706-3
Severity: normal

These days it is assumed that xorg should be useable with no configuration
file, as the code will figure out the
configuration for itself. If you do this on a system with a Synaptics
touchpanel it will (for the most part)
correctly configure the touchpanel.

But if you try to use the ksynaptics, it complains that SHMConfig is not set to
true and therefore the
config program can not work.

The default should be set so that programs like ksynaptics can operate.

Bug#425574: With binutils-multiarch installed, ksymoops -a ? still only shows x86 style architectures

2007-05-22 Thread David Goodenough
Package: binutils-multiarch
Version: 2.17cvs20070426-6
Severity: important

I install ksymoops (Debian sid) and then binutil-multiarch in the understanding
that
with the multi-arch version of binutils I would be able to decode a mipsel
kernel oops
on my PC. But ksymoops keeps on saying it only knows about x86 (i.e. the host
PC)
style architectures. As man ksymoops says this is controlled by the version of
libbfd.so (and I presume libopcodes.so) and they come from this package I
presume
this is a problem here rather than ksymoops.

Bug#362718: Correction, it does work with VESA, so this is not needed

2006-04-16 Thread David Goodenough
I am not sure what the problem was when I first tried VESA but this time when
I tried it is worked well. This is also an improvement on the older XFree86
VESA driver which I never did get to work. So this can be closed as no longer
needed.

Bug#362718: xserver-xorg-video-s3: driver lacks support for 88c864 chip

2006-04-15 Thread David Goodenough
Package: xserver-xorg-video-s3
Version: 1:0.3.5.4-3
Severity: important

I used to use the S3 driver from XFree86 3.x when running XFree86 4.x
and xorg 6.x, but that no longer seems possible with 7.x. So I tried
to use the S3 driver that comes with 7.x, and that does not seem to
recognise the 88c864 chip. Using strings the nearest I can find is
the 964 chips, not the 864. As the machine I am running on (an old
IBM 750 does not seem to be supported by the Vesa driver either, this
only leaves the VGA driver, and even that does not work properly on
this chip.

Yes this is a very old machine, but it does serve a useful purpose
and it would be really useful if the 864 chip support could be
included in this driver.

Bug#361960: kexi crashes when you select Ruby as scripting language

If you create a new script, and modify the language from Python to Ruby,

although Kexi now supports Rubby as a scripting language there are no
Ruby dependancies and that this is a dependancy problem but I may be

Bug#341135: Problem installing on I2O disks

2005-11-28 Thread David Goodenough
Package: Installation
Version: debian-testing-i386-businesscard.iso downloaded 28th Nov 2005

I have now tried both the AMD-64 and I386 versions of the installer trying to
install Debian on a box with a DPT (now Adaptec) I2O controller.

The AMD-64 build tries to load the wrong driver, as the dpt_i2o driver does
not exist for AMD-64, rather the more generic and newer i2o_block driver is
needed.

Once the correct driver is loaded the disks will partition apparently
correctly (I have no other machine which will accept these disks so I can
not tell if they have been formatted correctly).

But they will not load.

The i386 script talks about /dev/sda, but there is no such entry in the /dev
tree. The nearest seems be /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1.

If I switch to VC2 and issue the mount command manually I get a
message back saying mount: Mounting /dev/... on /target failed: Invalid
arguement when I issue the command:-

mount /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 /target

The same if I include -t ext3.

On VC4 there are some errors saying:-

EXT3-FS error (device sda1): ext3_check_descriptors: Inode table for group
9 no in group (block 32780)!
EXT3-FS group descriptors corrupted!

Formatting the disk from VC2 makes no difference, and gives no errors
during the formatting. Waiting for the cache to be flushed after formatting
for some 10s of minutes also makes no difference.

Thanks in advance

David

Bug#339603: kdelibs4-dev: kde/kjs/object_object.h missing so can not compile Rekall 2.3.4 CVS

2005-11-17 Thread David Goodenough

*** Please type your report below this line ***
When I try to compile the latest Rekall is tries to include
kjs/object_object.h and this does not exist in Debian but does seem to exist
in the KDE tree. In fact the list of .h files seems to be missing more than
just object_object.h. I checked with packages.debian.org and that suggests
that no other package includes these files, so I guess that as some kjs/*.h
files are includes in this package that this is the right place to include
them.

Bug#320860: hw-detect: Should support basic sound card detection

routers etc it would be something of a waste of limited Compact Flash
space to go installing sound support automatically.  Please can this be
optional and not automatic, at least in expert mode.

I am not here talking about Emdebian style systems, but the sort of
cards like the Microtik and PC Engines ones which are small PCs with
Geode chips and CF disks.  Also the VIA MiniITX boards usually come with
this kind of support which you may not want to use.

In the bug report I proposed a way to test for the presence of a sound
card. Would embedded systems give true for that test?
Is there a test that could be used to exclude embedded systems?
Well the system I am using (a PC Engines Wrap card with a Geode processor)
responds as follows to an lspci:-

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lspci
:00:00.0 Host bridge: Cyrix Corporation PCI Master
:00:0d.0 Network controller: Intersil Corporation Prism 2.5 Wavelan

:00:12.3 Multimedia audio controller: National Semiconductor Corporation
SCx200 Audio
:00:12.5 Bridge: National Semiconductor Corporation: Unknown device 0515

The Intersil Wireless card and the Nat Semi Ethernet controller are external
to the Geode chip, but all the rest in internal. So if the code you propose
sees the SCx200 Audio item presumably it is going to try to install sound.
The pins from this function on the SOC chip are actually not connected to
anything but I do not see any way in which this could be detected.

Several of the Soekris and Microtik cards also use the Geode SOC chip and
they are used on wired and wireless routers and firewall all over the place.

Bug#251023: mkinitrd is already adapted to add the DSDT

2005-07-01 Thread David Goodenough
On Friday 01 July 2005 11:42, A Mennucc wrote:
 hi there

I am very interested in patches for custom DSDT support (I own
 an ASUS notebook which has a broken DSDT, so ACPI suspend does not work;
 and there is a fixed DSDT in acpi.sf.net that I would love to try);

I hope that they would accepted in Debian's shipped kernel
 (see bug 251023).

So I want to point a very important fact: the command /usr/sbin/mkinitrd
in Debian Sarge already supports those patches: at the end it
 sports the lines

 if [ -e /etc/mkinitrd/DSDT ]; then
echo -n INITRDDSDT123DSDT123 ${initrd_file}
cat /etc/mkinitrd/DSDT ${initrd_file}
 fi

so the Debian user would just need to put the fixed DSDT in
/etc/mkinitrd/DSDT and it would be included in mkinitrd, and
(as soon as the patch is accepted in default Debian kernels)
it would be loaded at startup: easy and clean.

I guess that for the above mkinitrd snippet , we would need the patch
 http://gaugusch.at/acpi-dsdt-initrd-patches/acpi-dsdt-initrd-patch-v0.7d-2.
6.9.patch (for kernel = 2.6.9 ) and the patch
 http://gaugusch.at/acpi-dsdt-initrd-patches/acpi-dsdt-initramfs-fix-2.6.10-
cleanup.patch (for kernel == 2.6.10 )

Unfortunately this last patch fails on the standard kernel in Sarge, that
is 2.6.8 ... I will need to look into it ..

 a.

I agree that this would be useful. When I raised it several months ago
I was told that this INITRD method was not the prefered route in the
kernel currently as they prefer the route of statically linking the DSDT
into the kernel. I think this is daft as most people do not want to get
involved in building kernels. Actually I think that while this method is
better than a whole kernel build that really the best solution would be
to modify the kernel and LILO/GRUB/whatever_boot_loader to take a
file name for the DSDT and then all that is needed is to create the
file - much easier for Joe User.

The problem obviously is that this has to be done VERY early in the
kernel boot process so no solution is going to be trivial, but it must
be as easy as possible for Joe User as many laptops have these
problems.
