Bug#981634: OCA upgrade link
https://github.com/OCA/OpenUpgrade[1] You are right that it now seems to be in the form of an installable addon, and that it comes in two parts for the Odoo-14 branch. *addon* *version* *summary* https://github.com/OCA/OpenUpgrade/blob/14.0/openupgrade_framework[2] 14.0.1.0.0 Module to integrate in the server_wide_modules option to make upgrades between two major revisions. https://github.com/OCA/OpenUpgrade/blob/14.0/openupgrade_scripts[3] 14.0.1.0.0 Module that contains all the migrations analysis and scripts for migrate Odoo SA modules. This looks much easier to install, and to include in the Odoo-14 package than previous versions. The documentation is very out of date, stopping at Odoo-11, but there does seem to be (as above) an active Odoo-14 branch. Bug#981634: odoo-14: Odoo-14 package should include the OCA upgrade process
Package: odoo-14 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Moving between Odoo releases requires an upgrade process. The OCA have such a process (the native Odoo one is a pay for option and thus not relevant to Debian). This process is normally integrated with the OCA packaged Odoo distributions. Without the upgrade process a user would have to re-enter all the data from a previous release in order to move to the new release, which is clearly a manual and thus error prone process. If the OCA upgrade process were integrated such upgrades could be done automatically for the user, which would greatly improve the ease of use and uptake of Odoo. Bug#872079: Install log
Here is the log as I drilled down the dependency tree. Looks like a problem with libstdc++6:i386. Given that gcc was moved to default to cpp-7 should wine32 and all its dependencies be rebuilt with cpp 7? I only followed part of the tree, so there might be other problems. SQLITE3 always leaves .db-shm and .db-wal files behind and the only backend that seems to work OK is MYSQL... At first view seems better, but not perfect. One of the problems with MYSQL is that it is not as fussy about things being right and therefore will not show up the problems that actually exist in the application. Roll on Akonadi-next. What gives you the idea that they shoud have gone away? Experimentation: I fed ~500 MiB maildir folder to akonadi/sqlite and deadlocks disappeared with upgrade of sqlite3/libsqlite. It is quite possible that I did not test long enough however I'm trying to determine whether it is a real error or merely a warning? Can you confirm? I suspect that doing something essentially sequential does not show deadlocks. I hit this all the time because I have LOTS of mail filters and they seem to happen while processing those - I guess it spawns processes at least for the spam filter. By the way I think I've seen some quiet deadlocks (when akonadi doesn't do anything while kmail waits for akonadi) even on backend-mysql. I think akonadi _is_ a problem but I'm just not sure if deadlocks on sqlite are really that bad, comparing to the whole thing. In any case upstream admits that there are problems with concurrent access on sqlite backend: https://techbase.kde.org/Projects/PIM/Akonadi#Why_not_use_sqlite.3F So as bad as it sounds sqlite just seems to be a poorly supported backend... :( My prefered DBM is Postgresql, but it has real problems when updating in that it does not automatically upgrade DBs on update, at least the way that Debian packages it. Also sometimes, especially on sid you get an update where you can not even use the supplied upgrade scripts and you have to do it manually. Having that underlying my email system is not an acceptable risk. Personally I will not have MySql on my machine, I simply do not trust it. Lots of other systems use Sqlite without problems, and I have to say that my suspicion is that the problems with akonadi are simply becuase it was implemented by people who did not really understand how to use an SQL DB. For instance, a deadlock is a retryable error, you hit it, rollback your transaction and try again. In development this can lead to problems if you do not plan the order in which you access tables, but this is a basic principle of all SQL DBs. So these errors should never appear as errors, they should just trigger an internal retry. Sqlite has had sufficient locking to get around this problem for a while now, and this suggests tha the ordering of table access has simply not been planned properly. All in all this is leading me to an inexorable conclusion, I have will have (after many many years) to give up on kmail and move to something else. My problem is what to move to. I really would like to remain within the KDE world as it will then be better integrated, and I need both IMAP and POP - there appears to be little option. Interesting. Something tells me that it must be an upstream problem but if this is a packaging issue then perhaps we can fix it -- we just need more details. There is a script that can be run (pg_upgradecluster from memory) which does the upgrade, but the postinst for the debs does not use it. I guess there may be times when you do not want it, and originally it did not always work (I have been using pg for a long time), but I have never had a problem with it other than having to run in it manually. Also sometimes, especially on sid you get an update where you can not even use the supplied upgrade scripts and you have to do it manually. Having that underlying my email system is not an acceptable risk. Indeed. Personally I will not have MySql on my machine, I simply do not trust it. Bad experience or abstract theory? Just curious... Its rather like the difference between Access and MS-SQL, one is the full function, the other is a simplified version designed to make life quick and easy. Again this is my email system, I want something reliable and which follows all the SQL rules (MySql and its variants do not). Since 1.13.0-4 you should be able to use MariaDB or any other MySQL flavour if they are any better... Lots of other systems use Sqlite without problems, [...] I would also prefer SQLite if only akonadi could use it reliably... All in all this is leading me to an inexorable conclusion, I have will have (after many many years) to give up on kmail and move to something else. My problem is what to move to. I really would like to remain within the KDE world as it will then be better integrated, and I need both IMAP and POP - there appears to be little option. I'm with you. I am addicted to KMail and many of its features. IMHO there is no replacement to it... I wonder if upstream having plans to decommission akonadi as it seems to be our only hope unless they manage to magically fix it... There was talk of an Akonadi2, but I am not sure what happens to its DB usage. The other odd thing is that if I read its architecture page on kde.org correctly Baloo (the Nepomuk replacement) uses SqLite. I do not use Baloo consciously, but it lurks in the bowels of KDE and seems to work. David -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. So I have an area of the disk that currently I can not access, but are covered by the partition table. I read following Google searches that the fix is to use hdparm -N, but when I run it I get:- $ sudo hdparm -N /dev/hda /dev/hda: The running kernel lacks CONFIG_IDE_TASK_IOCTL support for this device. READ_NATIVE_MAX_ADDRESS_EXT failed: Invalid argument Previous kernels (at least 2.6.26 which I used to run on this machine with Debian) did not seem to notice the HPA, so either I need a way to turn off the kernel's detection of the HPA or I need CONFIG_IDE_TASK_IOCTL enabled to enable hdparm -N to work. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 2.6.32-2-686 (Debian 2.6.32-8) (b...@decadent.org.uk) (gcc version 4.3.4 (Debian 4.3.4-6) ) #1 SMP Thu Feb 11 04:08:42 UTC 2010 ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-2-686 root=UUID=20791f58-eff6-4abb-86ee-a80a335baf62 ro ** Not tainted ** Kernel log: [ 11.869458] lib80211: common routines for IEEE802.11 drivers [ 11.869521] lib80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'NULL' [ 11.884164] ACPI: AC Adapter [ACAD] (off-line) [ 12.018693] udev: renamed network interface eth0 to eth2 [ 12.133224] NET: Registered protocol family 23 [ 12.148358] ieee80211: 802.11 data/management/control stack, git-1.1.13 [ 12.148415] ieee80211: Copyright (C) 2004-2005 Intel Corporation jketr...@linux.intel.com [ 12.201889] i915 :00:02.0: PCI INT A - Link[LNKA] - GSI 6 (level, low) - IRQ 6 [ 12.201966] i915 :00:02.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 12.206386] [drm] set up 15M of stolen space [ 12.727456] [drm] DAC-6: set mode 640x480 0 [ 13.213885] yenta_cardbus :02:06.0: CardBus bridge found [152d:0727] [ 13.213955] yenta_cardbus :02:06.0: O2: res at 0x94/0xD4: ea/00 [ 13.214007] yenta_cardbus :02:06.0: O2: enabling read prefetch/write burst [ 13.316206] nsc-ircc, chip-init [ 13.316262] nsc-ircc, Found chip at base=0x164e [ 13.316334] nsc-ircc, driver loaded (Dag Brattli) [ 13.316507] nsc_ircc_open(), can't get iobase of 0x2f8 [ 13.316583] nsc-ircc, Found chip at base=0x164e [ 13.316654] nsc-ircc, driver loaded (Dag Brattli) [ 13.316705] nsc_ircc_open(), can't get iobase of 0x2f8 [ 13.317048] nsc-ircc 00:0a: disabled [ 13.318081] ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.2.2kmprq [ 13.318149] ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation [ 13.421093] render error detected, EIR: 0x0010 [ 13.421097] [drm:i915_handle_error] *ERROR* EIR stuck: 0x0010, masking [ 13.421118] render error detected, EIR: 0x0010 [ 13.437039] [drm] LVDS-8: set mode 1024x768 10 [ 13.439309] yenta_cardbus :02:06.0: ISA IRQ mask 0x0838, PCI irq 6 [ 13.439312] yenta_cardbus :02:06.0: Socket status: 3006 [ 13.439317] pci_bus :02: Raising subordinate bus# of parent bus (#02) from #02 to #06 [ 13.439326] yenta_cardbus :02:06.0: pcmcia: parent PCI bridge I/O window: 0x3000 - 0x3fff [ 13.439330] pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket0: cs: IO port probe 0x3000-0x3fff: clean. Bug#572618: linux-image-2.6.32-2-686: missing config option CONFIG_IDE_TASK_IOCTL detected by hdparm -N

You should be able to make the kernel ignore the HPA thus: 1. Create a file under /etc/modprobe.d containing the lines: options ide_core nohpa=0.0 options libata ignore_hpa=1 2. Run 'update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.32-2-686' 3. Reboot Ben. Excellent, thank you that worked. I had found the libata ignore_hpa=1 in various forums, but no one had mentioned the ide_core nohpa=0.0 and that (or rather the combination of the two) did the trick. Can I close the bug (if so how) otherwise feel free to close it. Given that these days (I know in the past that IBM PS/2 machines needed an area for BIOS most of which was stored on disk) the only use for HPA seems to be for windows reload areas, I suppose the only question is when you would want HPA to be enabled on a linux box? Bug#571771: Just for the record...
I hit this bug on a machine which I use as a sacrificial machine and gets updated every morning from sid. The only way I could get the latest version to install was to uninstall the old version (I removed openoffice.org-common) and the install openoffice.org. Both operations behaved as expected, but otherwise I just got the dependency cycle problem. The only new thing it install was openoffice.org-emailmerge. I notice that openclipart was mentioned, I do not have this installed. David -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#571761: linux-image-2.6.32-2-686: 2.6.32 required noapic on Acer Travelmate 430 where earlier kernels did not
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.32-8 Severity: important With kernels up to 2.6.26 this ancient machine did not require any special kernel boot options, but with 2.6.32 I need to add noapic to the kernel command in grub. If I do not add noapic the kernel gets as far as the pcmcia socket and gets through that completely, and then hangs competely - nothing works. Looking in the 2.6.26 kernel dmesg just after the initialisation of the pcmcia socket there were messages about ACPI derived interrupts. So I thought trying noapic was worth trying noapic, and now 2.6.32 boots normally. This suggests that something has changed in the APIC handling for the old chip in the 430, for the worse. Of course now manual intervention is required to make this machine boot. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 2.6.32-2-686 (Debian 2.6.32-8) (b...@decadent.org.uk) (gcc version 4.3.4 (Debian 4.3.4-6) ) #1 SMP Thu Feb 11 04:08:42 UTC 2010 ** Command line: root=/dev/hda1 ro noapic ** Not tainted ** Kernel log: ** Model information not available ** Loaded modules: Module Size Used by btrfs 362362 0 zlib_deflate 15822 1 btrfs crc32c 2172 1 libcrc32c730 1 btrfs ufs55922 0 qnx45118 0 hfsplus60901 0 hfs32993 0 minix 17778 0 ntfs 163173 0 vfat6506 0 msdos 5118 0 fat34776 2 vfat,msdos jfs 134230 0 xfs 414276 0 exportfs2586 1 xfs reiserfs 175508 0 ext4 254301 0 jbd2 55835 1 ext4 ext2 46157 0 fuse 43554 1 radeon398251 0 ttm26008 1 radeon drm_kms_helper 17183 1 radeon drm 107431 3 radeon,ttm,drm_kms_helper i2c_algo_bit3497 1 radeon binfmt_misc 4875 1 sco 5837 2 bridge 32851 0 stp 996 1 bridge rfcomm 25063 1 bnep7376 2 l2cap 21677 6 rfcomm,bnep crc16 1027 2 ext4,l2cap bluetooth 36259 6 sco,rfcomm,bnep,l2cap dm_snapshot17945 0 dm_mirror 9639 0 dm_region_hash 5612 1 dm_mirror dm_log 6369 2 dm_mirror,dm_region_hash dm_mod 45878 3 dm_snapshot,dm_mirror,dm_log mmc_block 6436 0 sr_mod 10770 0 firewire_sbp2 9575 0 ide_generic 801 0 [permanent] ide_cd_mod 21044 0 cdrom 26487 2 sr_mod,ide_cd_mod snd_intel8x0 19523 2 snd_intel8x0m 8100 0 snd_ac97_codec 79140 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_intel8x0m ac97_bus 710 1 snd_ac97_codec snd_pcm_oss28671 0 snd_mixer_oss 10461 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm47362 4 snd_intel8x0,snd_intel8x0m,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss snd_seq_midi3576 0 snd_rawmidi12505 1 snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event 3684 1 snd_seq_midi snd_seq35327 3 snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event pcmcia 17442 0 snd_timer 12258 2 snd_pcm,snd_seq usbhid 27756 0 yenta_socket 16403 1 snd_seq_device 3673 3 snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq joydev 6771 0 rfkill 10196 2 bluetooth led_class 1757 0 rsrc_nonstatic 7057 1 yenta_socket hostap_pci 34480 0 hid50593 1 usbhid snd34327 15 snd_intel8x0,snd_intel8x0m,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device pcmcia_core20414 3 pcmcia,yenta_socket,rsrc_nonstatic parport_pc 15799 0 hostap 76764 1 hostap_pci i2c_i8016442 0 parport22554 1 parport_pc lib802112834 2 hostap_pci,hostap wmi 3575 0 soundcore 3450 1 snd serio_raw 2916 0 battery 3782 0 ac 1640 0 container 1833 0 evdev 5609 13 rng_core2178 0 pcspkr 1207 0 i2c_core 12612 4 radeon,drm,i2c_algo_bit,i2c_i801 psmouse44381 0 snd_page_alloc 4977 3 snd_intel8x0,snd_intel8x0m,snd_pcm processor 25811 1 shpchp 21220 0 pci_hotplug18065 1 shpchp ext3 93828 1 jbd31965 1 ext3 mbcache 3762 3 ext4,ext2,ext3 ide_gd_mod 17103 3 ide_pci_generic 1924 0

Bug#525978: apt-listchanges: Openoffice.org changelog always displayed in full, not delta since last update
Package: apt-listchanges Version: 2.83 Severity: important I have a sacrificial machine which I update each morning to the latest unstable. Bug#341135: Problem installing on I2O disks
Package: Installation Version: debian-testing-i386-businesscard.iso downloaded 28th Nov 2005 I have now tried both the AMD-64 and I386 versions of the installer trying to install Debian on a box with a DPT (now Adaptec) I2O controller. The AMD-64 build tries to load the wrong driver, as the dpt_i2o driver does not exist for AMD-64, rather the more generic and newer i2o_block driver is needed. Once the correct driver is loaded the disks will partition apparently correctly (I have no other machine which will accept these disks so I can not tell if they have been formatted correctly). But they will not load. The i386 script talks about /dev/sda, but there is no such entry in the /dev tree. The nearest seems be /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1. If I switch to VC2 and issue the mount command manually I get a message back saying mount: Mounting /dev/... on /target failed: Invalid arguement when I issue the command:- mount /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 /target The same if I include -t ext3. On VC4 there are some errors saying:- EXT3-FS error (device sda1): ext3_check_descriptors: Inode table for group 9 no in group (block 32780)! EXT3-FS group descriptors corrupted! Formatting the disk from VC2 makes no difference, and gives no errors during the formatting. Waiting for the cache to be flushed after formatting for some 10s of minutes also makes no difference. Many of the SOC based systems use chips that include sound support, but then do not provide the external connections to use it. On those boards being used as network routers etc it would be something of a waste of limited Compact Flash space to go installing sound support automatically. Please can this be optional and not automatic, at least in expert mode. I am not here talking about Emdebian style systems, but the sort of cards like the Microtik and PC Engines ones which are small PCs with Geode chips and CF disks. Also the VIA MiniITX boards usually come with this kind of support which you may not want to use. In the bug report I proposed a way to test for the presence of a sound card. Would embedded systems give true for that test? Is there a test that could be used to exclude embedded systems? Well the system I am using (a PC Engines Wrap card with a Geode processor) responds as follows to an lspci:- [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lspci :00:00.0 Host bridge: Cyrix Corporation PCI Master :00:0d.0 Network controller: Intersil Corporation Prism 2.5 Wavelan chipset (rev 01) :00:0e.0 Ethernet controller: National Semiconductor Corporation DP83815 (MacPhyter) Ethernet Controller :00:12.0 ISA bridge: National Semiconductor Corporation: Unknown device 0510 :00:12.1 Bridge: National Semiconductor Corporation: Unknown device 0511 :00:12.2 IDE interface: National Semiconductor Corporation SCx200 IDE (rev 01) :00:12.3 Multimedia audio controller: National Semiconductor Corporation SCx200 Audio :00:12.5 Bridge: National Semiconductor Corporation: Unknown device 0515 The Intersil Wireless card and the Nat Semi Ethernet controller are external to the Geode chip, but all the rest in internal. So if the code you propose sees the SCx200 Audio item presumably it is going to try to install sound. The pins from this function on the SOC chip are actually not connected to anything but I do not see any way in which this could be detected. Several of the Soekris and Microtik cards also use the Geode SOC chip and they are used on wired and wireless routers and firewall all over the place. David
Bug#251023: mkinitrd is already adapted to add the DSDT
On Friday 01 July 2005 11:42, A Mennucc wrote: hi there I am very interested in patches for custom DSDT support (I own an ASUS notebook which has a broken DSDT, so ACPI suspend does not work; and there is a fixed DSDT in acpi.sf.net that I would love to try); I hope that they would accepted in Debian's shipped kernel (see bug 251023). So I want to point a very important fact: the command /usr/sbin/mkinitrd in Debian Sarge already supports those patches: at the end it sports the lines if [ -e /etc/mkinitrd/DSDT ]; then echo -n INITRDDSDT123DSDT123 ${initrd_file} cat /etc/mkinitrd/DSDT ${initrd_file} fi so the Debian user would just need to put the fixed DSDT in /etc/mkinitrd/DSDT and it would be included in mkinitrd, and (as soon as the patch is accepted in default Debian kernels) it would be loaded at startup: easy and clean. I guess that for the above mkinitrd snippet , we would need the patch http://gaugusch.at/acpi-dsdt-initrd-patches/acpi-dsdt-initrd-patch-v0.7d-2. 6.9.patch (for kernel = 2.6.9 ) and the patch http://gaugusch.at/acpi-dsdt-initrd-patches/acpi-dsdt-initramfs-fix-2.6.10- cleanup.patch (for kernel == 2.6.10 ) Unfortunately this last patch fails on the standard kernel in Sarge, that is 2.6.8 ... I will need to look into it .. a. I agree that this would be useful. When I raised it several months ago I was told that this INITRD method was not the prefered route in the kernel currently as they prefer the route of statically linking the DSDT into the kernel. I think this is daft as most people do not want to get involved in building kernels. Actually I think that while this method is better than a whole kernel build that really the best solution would be to modify the kernel and LILO/GRUB/whatever_boot_loader to take a file name for the DSDT and then all that is needed is to create the file - much easier for Joe User. The problem obviously is that this has to be done VERY early in the kernel boot process so no solution is going to be trivial, but it must be as easy as possible for Joe User as many laptops have these problems.
