Bug#508807: gnome-desktop-environment: New windows don't show up until DNS resolver unfreezes
No, localhost was already there but I had to add the machine name to /etc/hosts like this: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.2 inspironjaime Where inspironjaime was the name I gave to the machine at install time. This problem happened when the name resolver was in a state in which it took long times to resolve any name or fail, like when the machine is connected to a LAN but can't reach a DNS. It seems like GNOME was trying to resolve the machine name every time a new window was opened, by adding the machine name to /etc/hosts as mentioned it was guaranteed to have an instant response so it didn't get delayed. I'm sorry but I can't check if this is still happening because now I'm using KDE4 on all my machines and purged GNOME (I got tired of all this .net - mono stuff around and all the cumbersome and unknown - no one knows where they are - config files and registers that reminded me Windows) Jaime Alberto Silva Colorado Ing. Bug#536200: I vote to make gnome-user-share a recommendation instead of a dependency
I think Apache is an overweight for a desktop machine, either for the full gnome or only gnome-desktop-environment. The way it is now you're forcing everybody to install Apache (and MySQL, as it seems) even if they don't need webdav or will not use it. I think is better to let only the ones that really need the user share and are willing to have Apache on their machines install the package. So I think is better to make gnome-user-share recommended instead of a dependency. Well, that's just my opinnion. Maybe I'm wrong and don't understand why gnome-user-share is a must have. -- Jaime Alberto Silva Socio / Representante Legal SG Automatización Ltda. Pereira \ Risaralda \ Colombia

Bug#534540: bluez-gnome: Send and receive broken since last update
Package: bluez-gnome Version: 1.8-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Since I updated to the last bluez-gnome in order to re-enable the obex:// url in nautilus I can't send or receive files to/from devices. Browsing works, I can browse the files and delete and copy files from/to devices. The problem comes when I try to send a file via bluetooth-sendto, it asks for the file, asks for the device and then when it tries to send the file the transmission never starts and I must click Cancel, and when I try to send a file from the device to the laptop the connection is refused. The device I'm testing with is a Nokia N95 and it is paired and I put a star to it (I guess that authorizes/trusts it). The bluetoth obex push option of nautilus-sendto has dissapeared as reported in bug #534538. I have also tried to establish connection laptop - desktop and it doesn't work. The desktop is not updated, so it is working fine (bluetooth obex option in nautilus-sendto, sends and receives files). When I try to send a file from the desktop to the laptop it says that the laptop does not support OBEX. And when I try to send a file from the laptop to the desktop is the same as with any other device, it keeps trying with no success. Both devices trust each other. Since I noticed that bluez-gnome now conflicts with gnome-bluetooth I purged it, but it still doesn't work. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (102, 'unstable'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages bluez-gnome depends on: ii bluez4.40-2 Bluetooth tools and daemons ii dbus 1.2.12-1simple interprocess messaging syst ii gconf2 2.26.2-1GNOME configuration database syste ii gnome-icon-t 2.26.0-1GNOME Desktop icon theme ii libatk1.0-0 1.26.0-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc62.9-12 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo21.8.6-2+b1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.12-1simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib 0.80-4 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libfontconfi 2.6.0-3 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.9-4.1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgconf2-4 2.26.2-1GNOME configuration database syste ii libglib2.0-0 2.20.1-2The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.16.1-2The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libhal1 0.5.12~git20090406.46dc48-2 Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libnotify1 [ 0.4.5-1 sends desktop notifications to a n ii libpango1.0- 1.24.0-3+b1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii obex-data-se 0.4.4-2 D-Bus service for OBEX client and Versions of packages bluez-gnome recommends: ii gvfs-backends 1.2.3-1userspace virtual filesystem - bac bluez-gnome suggests no packages. -- no debconf information Jaime Alberto Silva Socio / Representante Legal SG Automatización Ltda. Bug#534538: nautilus-sendto: Option to send via obex dissapeared
Well, I think bluez-gnome replaces gnome-bluetooth because gnome depends on bluez-gnome. So if I try to install gnome-bluetooth then apt must remove bluez-gnome and gnome. And I don't like to remove the metapackage because I don't want to miss new features. I'm using the bluez-... packages from unstable, and nautilus also is from unstable. Nautilus is browsing devices but I can't send or receive files via obex push. So I'm assuming gnome is migrating from gnome-bluetooth to bluez-gnome. Even nautilus-sendto now suggests bluez-gnome and makes no mention about gnome-bluetooth. When I try to send a file from the desktop to the laptop it says that the laptop does not support OBEX. And when I try to send a file from the laptop to the desktop is the same as with any other device, it keeps trying with no success. Both devices trust each other. There is an answer to this problem and it's solution here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=520501#50 and specific instructions here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=525183#30 I suggest using apt-get build-dep gnome-volume-manager to obtain the build dependencies. Thanks to the #debian irc channel on irc.debian.org I could find the answer. I ask the package maintainer: This is an easy fix, can you please put it in the package? Bug#525330: network-manager: WPA to WPA2, must remove the stored keys for the ssid
Package: network-manager Version: 0.6.6-3 Severity: important Recently I upgraded my WRT54G router to X-Wrt and enabled WPA2 keeping the same SSID it has before the upgrade. network-manager (NM) was not able to connect, and in the passphrase dialog WPA was listed but no WPA2. After a lot of tries and NM restarts I decided to change the router to WPA+WPA2(PSK) mode and NM worked, but in WPA mode. Then I changed it back to WPA2 and NM wasn't able to connect and the passphrase dialog was not longer shown, so I decided to stop NM then erase all the stored passwords for my SSID using Seahorse (Applications-Accessories-Passwords and Encription Keys in Gnome). When I restarted NM and tried to connect the passphrase dialog now had the WPA2 option selected by default, I entered the passphrase and it is working now. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (102, 'unstable'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages network-manager depends on: ii adduser 3.110 add and remove users and groups ii dbus 1.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii dhcdbd3.0-5 D-Bus interface to the ISC DHCP cl ii hal 0.5.11-8 Hardware Abstraction Layer ii ifupdown 0.6.8+nmu1 high level tools to configure netw ii iproute 20090324-1 networking and traffic control too ii libc6 2.9-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.80-3 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgcrypt11 1.4.4-2LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libglib2.0-0 2.20.0-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgpg-error0 1.6-1 library for common error values an ii libhal1 0.5.11-8 Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libiw29 29-1.1 Wireless tools - library ii libnl11.1-5 library for dealing with netlink s ii libnm-util0 0.6.6-3network management framework (shar ii lsb-base 3.2-22 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii wpasupplicant 0.6.9-1client support for WPA and WPA2 (I Versions of packages network-manager recommends: ii network-manager-gnome 0.6.6-4network management framework (GNOM network-manager suggests no packages. -- no debconf information Jaime Alberto Silva Socio / Representante Legal SG Automatización Ltda. But the only packages currently offering libgtkembedmoz.so in testing and unstable are icedove and iceowl as you can see in http://packages.debian.org/search?searchon=contentskeywords=libgtkembedmoz.somode=pathsuite=unstablearch=any The problem is that none of those packages put the library in one of the directories mentioned in the eclipse script that, I guess, are the same ones in which the eclipse binary looks for the library. After detecting network and configuring it said that no hard drive can be located. After some investigation in the console I found that the kernel driver was loaded and that I was abble to mount the partitions. But when I ran parted_devices I got a ldd error indicating that libselinux.so.1 was not found. So I downloaded the stable (Lenny) installer and it worked fine. For some reason the libselinux.so.1 library is missing so the partition tools don't work and the installer reports that it can't detect the hard drive, but the hard drive is working fine. -- Jaime Alberto Silva Gerente SG Automatización Ltda. Bug#494929: Info received (Bug#494929: /usr/lib/vlc/codec/libffmpeg_plugin.so: undefined symbol: img_resample)
I know what the problem is! I'm using the libav* (ffmpeg libraries) from www.debian-multimedia.org. I tried downgrading the libraries to use the official ones but it didn't solved my problem since those libraries doesn't have the codecs I need :( All I can do is wait until the libraries from debian-multimedia get fixed. Just a question: As I understand the bug has been solved by adding the dependencies mentioned, then why is switchspell still missing in the package and the bug open? Bug#484565: /lib/modules/2.6.24-1-amd64/kernel/drivers/input/mouse/psmouse.ko: Patch to enable Dell 1420 touch pad's scroll is not working
I'm sorry I forgot to update this thread. There is no problem in the kernel, this bug must be closed. The problem was that I was using the default xorg config file and that file didn't had an entry for the synaptic driver. As soon as I modified the xorg.conf and added the synaptic driver everything worked fine. Thanks a lot, and once again, I'm sorry I forgot to report this was fixed. Bug#477685: Please try newest xorg and intel driver.
On Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 11:08 AM, Raúl Sánchez Siles [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello: I see some strange things on your settings. If you are on Debian hardy which is an ubuntu release shouldn't be on your repositories. Please remove it. The reason because hardy was reported is that, sadly, many projects have packages for Ubuntu but not for Debian, so I was forced to add entries like: # WxWidgets deb http://apt.wxwidgets.org/ gutsy-wx main # WxFormBuilder deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/rjmyst3/ubuntu hardy main In order to get the last wxwidgets and wxformbuilder installed on my system; but, don't worry, all my system packages are from Debian Lenny. Also I can see that you prefer lenny over sid, but some narrow margin. Also mesa packages libglu1-mesa and libgl1-mesa-glx are no the newest version. Please upgrade your system to latest lenny and try with that. If it doesn't work, try upgrading xserver-xorg-video-intel and eventually full xorg to unstable. My system is now up to date but pcbnew still crashes when I try to see the 3d version of my board. Do I really must upgrade to unstable? I don't like to use unstable 'cause it is, well, unstable; and I can't afford to have my laptop in an unusable or buggy state. I only have unstable in my repository for those cases when a package in testing has a dependency that is only in unstable. If it still doesn't work it could be time to consider a video or Xorg bug. Gather as much info as possible about the problem: pcbnew console output and even Xorg log. pcbnew is completely mute; nothing is thrown to terminal or in Xorg log. Anyway, current kicad version on Debian is not much up to date as well, there have been some important changes on kicad since it was package. So maybe you could be interested in waiting some time to try a more recent version once uploaded into Debian. Well, I hope it gets updated soon. Meanwhile I'll have to get used to be able to see the 3d version only in my desktop system. -- Jaime Alberto Silva Ingeniero Electricista http://jaimealbertosilva.blogspot.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. The iscan and pscan config option are some legacy option that are still available for some strange corner cases for some embedded distros and they are not meant for general and permanent configuration. Marcel, can you confirm the actual solution is the one you indicated in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=384379#msg10 ? Jaime, could you please retry as well? bluez 3.7 is both in testing and unstable. I've been using discovto 0; in hcid.conf without any problems for a while. Currently I'm using bluez 3.7-1, there was an update a while ago when I had to add the line again to hcid.conf to make it work, and since then I tell debconf not to modify my hcid.conf in the updates so I can't tell if this version doesn't have the bug. If people don't learn that hcid.conf are proposed default values for the cold run only, then I might simply remove the whole file in the next upstream release. So stop writing ugly distribution specific hacks and better ask upstream for it. There might might a real bug hiding somewhere. If hcid.conf values are there only for a cold run I think it needs to be documented, I didn't found anything in hcid.conf(5) though, is it documented somewhere? thanks, filippo AFAIK the only thing needed to get the behaviour I want is to add discovto 0; to hcid.conf the problem was that I didn't found that in the manuals so I think that updating the hcid.conf manual is a solution to the bug, and it will be nice to add a default value with a comment to the package's hcid.conf, something like: ... # Set the time in seconds the discovery mode will be enabled, change to 0 to keep it forever discovto 180; ... -- Filippo Giunchedi - http://esaurito.net -- Jaime Alberto Silva -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. But when there are no updates I can't find the update-manager in the notification area. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-2-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages update-notifier depends on: ii dbus-1-utils0.92-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii gksu2.0.0-1 graphical frontend to su ii hal 0.5.7.1-2Hardware Abstraction Layer ii libart-2.0-22.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.12.2-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-02.14.0-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.14.0-4 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.2.4-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 0.92-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-20.71-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libfontconfig1 2.4.1-2 generic font configuration library ii libgconf2-4 2.14.0-4 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.0-2library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-02.12.3-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-keyring0 0.4.9-1 GNOME keyring services library ii libgnome2-0 2.14.1-3 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.14.0-2 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeui-02.14.1-2 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 2.14.2-2+b1 GNOME virtual file-system (runtime ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.20-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libhal1 0.5.7.1-2Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libice6 1:1.0.1-2X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libnotify1 0.4.2-1+b1 sends desktop notifications to a n ii liborbit2 1:2.14.0-2 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.14.4-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpopt01.10-3 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsm6 1:1.0.1-3X11 Session Management library ii libx11-62:1.0.0-9X11 client-side library ii libxau6 1:1.0.1-2X11 authorisation library ii libxcursor1 1.1.7-4 X cursor management library ii libxext61:1.0.1-2X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.1-4X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 1:1.0.1-3X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama11:1.0.1-4.1 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxml2 2.6.26.dfsg-3GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 2:1.1.0.2-4 X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.1-3X Rendering Extension client libra ii notification-daemon 0.3.5-1+b1 a daemon that displays passive pop ii python 2.4.3-11 An interactive high-level object-o ii python-apt 0.6.19 Python interface to libapt-pkg ii update-manager 0.42.2ubuntu22-4 GNOME application that manages apt update-notifier recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- Jaime Alberto Silva -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#384379: Fwd: [Bluez-users] Fwd: bluez-utils: The inquiry scan (ISCAN) gets turned off
Here is the answer I got to this problem from [EMAIL PROTECTED] : -- Forwarded message -- From: Marcel Holtmann [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Aug 24, 2006 4:01 AM Subject: Re: [Bluez-users] Fwd: bluez-utils: The inquiry scan (ISCAN) getsturned off To: BlueZ users [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Jaime, Whenever I try to discover the local system (Debian computer) from a remote system (mobile device, or other computer) it can't be found. After some research I found out that the ISCAN mode is disabled: this should have been fixed in bluez-utils-3.3. You have to set the discoverable timeout to 0 and the mode to discoverable over the new D-Bus API and then it will stay visible forever. Otherwise it goes back to being non-discoverable after the discoverable timeout. Regards Marcel - Using Tomcat but need to do more? Need to support web services, security? Adding discovto 0; to hcid.conf should do the trick. You can change the settings from the command line using dbus-send, but I don't think it's a good idea to put it into a init script. Hi Aurelien, I only see the pic16 include files but the pic14 include files are missing. This script is not provided as the .h for the supported PIC processors are already provided in the sdcc package, so you don't need to convert them. Bye, Aurelien -- -- Jaime Alberto Silva Colorado
