As I am the maintainer of most those packages, namely
* avelsieve,
* squirrelmail-compatibility,
* squirrelmail-lockout,
* squirrelmail-logger,
* squirrelmail-secure-login,
* squirrelmail-sent-confirmation,
* squirrelmail-spam-buttons,
* squirrelmail-viewashtml,
I would just like to point out that I do also support the removal of
said packages. No effort has to made to reach out, and if any assistance
is needed, please get in touch.

As always, thank you all for your hard work!

Bug#789537: etoolbox: out-of-date, provided bu TeX Live (texlive-latex-extra)

Do you plan to package this version, or should we just make it
a transitional package to texlive-latex-extra, where the
newer version is already shipped (!!!).

Please let me know your preferences

Thanks for getting in touch with me! Please go ahead with the most
reasonable option which probably means replacing the packaged version by
what you're shipping in TL 2015.

I'm fine with what's best for TL packaging.

If you need me to do anything, please don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise,
thanks very much, as always, for your effort on keeping TL in Debian
excellent!

I wasn't aware of the requirement to put such information in the NEWS
file, actually I wasn't even aware of the requirement to create such
file in the first place. Since this is published in Debian Policy
which is aimed at maintainers and developers, the end user won't have
the first clue about it, unless (s)he reads the aforementioned policy
which, at least now, is not a prerequisite to use Debian ;^)

Some packages use debconf to display such information.
 How about using it instead?

That's actually not allowed by policy, and for a good reason: if every
package that changed its config files prompted the user with something
as we changed a lot, re-read documentation and adjust everything to
your needs. sorry., you, as an end user, would do hundreds of hits on
OK buttons during dist-upgrades without any real advantage.

I recommend installing apt-listchanges which has been promoted to
priority standard in early 2009. It's a pretty well designed way of
knowing what actually happens during (partial) upgrades.

Our (end-user) release notes should recommend it. Don't remember if they
do.

Sorry, Ondřej, I didn't realize we're there already. I discussed the
issue with upstream, they were open to changes, I proposed patches, and
then it got stalled... I'll recheck with them and prepare an upload

example if the user knows only a part of the name he's looking for). In the
current situation we have to look upwards/downwards AND from left to right to
 find a particular entry.

I think this option would not unnecessarily clutter the interface and would
prove itself really useful. For example a single button on the right of the
view selection bar should do the trick:

 [ Artists | Albums |Directories | = ]

Please tell me if you find this relevant.

Thanks for trying to make Debian better! :)

Well, I'm not sure if upstream is up to such a change. But if you want
to, you could just ask him. He's actually very responsive. How about
that? :)

Please state your position regarding this proposed action.

Well, I can't just allow a hijack just because I'm in the MIA team. I do
believe, though, that this package deserves a bit of attention. I
sincerely hope Chris will reply or at least drop me a short mail about
the current situation. Otherwise we would have to think about orphaning

It seems indeed to be non-ambiguous, though I'm not sure allowing this
syntax is a good idea. It is, after all, only readable by people very
comfortable with the different input types. We'll explore this.

We discussed this upstream. Since this shortcut would break with the
general oder of arguments, we decided against it. Someone rather
unfamiliar with enum would read 'enum 25x 4 40' as '25 values with a
step of 4 up to 40', i.e. 'enum .. 25x 4 .. 40' (output would start with
-56). We want for enum to have a most generic user interface. Your
suggested addition would break with it.

Thank you, though, for trying to improve enum!

Bug#659061: brasero: segfaults when creating a subfolder

I just tried to figure out the issue here. It seems, as long as

BraseroFileNode * brasero_file_node_new_empty_folder (const gchar *name);

sets node-is_fake = TRUE, it won't be so easy to bypass this.

Background:
A node that is to be renamed, removed, or used as parent (i.e. you try
to move a file into the newly created dir), needs an URI. Those are
received by brasero_data_project_node_to_uri() of which the return value
isn't checked (in neither of the above mentioned cases IIRC). Given a
node that has is_fake set, the function returns NULL, though. Trying to
create a hash (by using g_str_hash() from glib2) will thus lead to a
segfault (dereferencing NULL).

Obviously, one could just check return values and circumvent the part
that uses the URI. This makes renaming work (which is what the bug
reporter experienced not to work) as well as removing. You can't move
anything into a fake dir, though. At least I didn't figure out how that
would be possible (or make sense anyways). And suddenly, a new directory
isn't worth much. :)

Maybe this helps someone who knows the code better than me to get into
the problem more easily.

The code actually does honor the EDITOR environment variable. If empty,

Thanks for testing (and reminding me of it). I've contacted upstream and
we'll cover this some time. The fix isn't hard to do anyways.

I hope I'll be able to properly test php-openid soon with php5.4.

Hi,

as it seems mpack has an open vulnaribility which has been assigned a
CVE already. See http://openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2011/12/31/1 for
more information.

The security tracker is updated as I understand it, thanks to pabs.

I already mailed glandium about it who is, according to Myon, the one
who set up the cronjob. A simple fix would do the trick here but I'm not
sure it's the best way to go. UDD seems to generate unexpected output
there as it seems.

Anyways, attached patch should fix the apparent issue at least.

This is already reported upstream. I'm not really willing to introduce

Bug#637127: biblatex: Version 1.6-1 breaks refsection=part functionality

2011-12-20 Thread Jan Hauke Rahm
Ah crap, Gunnar, I totally for got about this bug report. Sorry!

On Mon, Aug 08, 2011 at 11:53:50AM -0500, Gunnar Wolf wrote:
Upon installing biblatex 1.6-1, my book (which includes a references
section per part) no longer generates the partial *.blx.aux files when
 being built. My preamble includes:

 \usepackage[style=authoryear, backref=true, backrefstyle=two,
 refsection=part, block=ragged]{biblatex}
 \ExecuteBibliographyOptions{ autocite=inline, sortcites=true,
 labelyear=true, uniquename=true}
 \bibliography{seco3}

So, from the seco3.bib file, four files (one per part --
 seco31.blx.aux, seco32.blx.aux, seco33.blx.aux, seco34.blx.aux) should
be generated, and bibtex is run for each. Of course, if I run bibtex
on the core seco3.aux file, the complete reference section is repeated
at the end of each part.

I don't suppose it's fixed in the current version?

Bug#651755: enum: please allow syntax: enum COUNTx stuff...

ERROR: Combination of command line arguments could not be parsed:
   25x 4 40

But the latter dotless syntax would be easier to type, and
the trailing 'x' in '25x' seems properly unambiguous.

It seems indeed to be non-ambiguous, though I'm not sure allowing this
syntax is a good idea. It is, after all, only readable by people very
comfortable with the different input types. We'll explore this.

The man page describes other COUNTx usages:

% man enum | nl | grep COUNTx | grep -v LEFT
107 oenum .. COUNTx STEP .. RIGHT
112 oenum .. COUNTx STEP ..
113 oenum .. COUNTx .. RIGHT
121 oenum .. COUNTx ..
125 oenum COUNTx

Only line 125 dispenses with the leading '..', yet the other lines
would be unambiguous if the leading '..' were removed.

125 was introduced to make enum a drop-in replacement for seq. The
others you're suggeting would be convenience shortcuts which we'll
consider, though I'm not sure the introduced lack of readability is a
good idea. We'll ponder about it.

Thanks anyways for trying to make enum better!

Yeah, jot is basically of no help anywhere. :-P But you're right. enum

Hi,

musique is the new name of minitunes which is in unstable and testing at
the moment. I maintain it myself.

Unfortunately, upstream changed the name of minitunes to musique and
released a new version 1.0, a version number that minitunes already had.

Since minitunes never entered stable, I think I'll just introduce
musique to Debian and ask for the removal of minitunes. I'll spare
myself any replaces/conflicts/meta-package dance. Any objections to
this?

Bug#646999: Crashes without strict gir1.2-mutter-3.0 dependency

2011-10-29 Thread Jan Hauke Rahm
Package: gnome-shell

Hi,

gnome-shell, as it is in experimental right now, crashes showing this
error:

Upgrading gir1.2-mutter-3.0 to 3.2.1-1 (current experimental) fixes the
problem. Thus, it's probably just a dependency issue.

David already contacted me about this and sent me a patch against 0.3.2.

As far as I can see, this new feature/option virtual_config_dir can
be integrated in sa-learn-cyrus without breaking anything else.

I asked David to send me a patch against 0.3.4.
Having this I would release sa-learn-cyrus-0.3.5 after a short time
 of testing.

 Is that OK?

For me? Sure! Sounds perfectly reasonable.

Hauke

PS: You had some dotfiles (some Apple generated stuff?) in your 0.3.4
tarball. Could you make sure this doesn't happen? It's stupid but since
Debian doesn't have the tools to create such files, I have to repack
sa-learn-cyrus to exclude them. And that's not really a nice option.

Oh crap, turns out it *wasn't* in the old debian package, I wrote it!
(it was a year ago, forgive my memory). For some reason I didn't send it
to anyone, so I'll take the opportunity to do so now. Sorry about that!
The bug should have been wishlist and have a different title.

This patch adds a new option to the sa-learn-cyrus config file that is
the equivalent of spamassassin spamd's --virtual-config-dir command
line option. Usually sa-learn-cyrus gets the bayes_path out of
spamassassin's config file but when you use the --virtual-config-dir
option there ends up being nothing about bayes_path in the spamassassin
 config file at all.

The --virtual-config-dir option lets you do some simple substitutions
for virtual users which is necessary in my setup because not all my
cyrus mail users are real unix users with home directories. Check the
 spamd man page or
 https://spamassassin.apache.org/full/3.0.x/dist/doc/spamd.html for more
 info.

 Feeling kind of dumb,

Don't. We've all done stuff like this. :)

I'll inform upstream about this. Let's see what he says...

created from this template and causes errors from bacula-director.

The source of the problem is likely debian/patches/fix_config which
blindly replaces all occurences of the package building host's hostname
with @hostname@. Presumably the build host was named ca.

This is exactly the case. I fixed it (and other side effects) already by
completely reworking the patching and installation of config files. It's
in our new git repository if you'd like to have a look. The changes
still need testing and thus aren't uploaded yet.

Unfortunately, upstream is completely unresponsive. He's maintaining the

last few weeks. easystroke needs work on the build system (no support
for noopt for instance without patching). It's not too complicated, yet
without communication with upstream, I'm not really seeing this.

I'd still love to see easystroke's features in Debian but I guess
someone else has got to do it... sadly...

Now, biblatex-dw does depend on biblatex - The last sentence in this
paragraph is thus not relevant to Debian systems and should be
removed, as it takes the user's mental focus off the real project
 description.

Indeed, thanks. I'll change that in our repository to have it in my next

Bug#627213: New virtual package(s) for different kinds of httpd (fastcgi etc)

FastCGI on nginx web server (nginx-full), but python-moinmoin
brings Apache web server into the system due to its
  dependencies:

  python-moinmoin depends on libapache2-mod-wsgi | httpd-cgi

  nginx-full provides httpd

I would submit a bug report on any of those packages, but
it does not appear clear to me:

  1. Virtual package httpd-cgi is this only plain CGI or also
can be FactCGI too? In case with nginx, it does not support
plain old CGI, but does support FastCGI (plus SCGI and WSGI).

  2. libapache2-mod-wsgi is not the only WSGI web server
  available.

  3. moinmoin is not limited to WCGI and CGI and also can
be run with built-in web server, FastCGI, SCGI and AJP.

The bottom line is that we are probably missing a bunch of
  virtual packages like:

  httpd-fastcgi
  httpd-wsgi
  httpd-scgi
  httpd-ajp

 +1
especially for the distinction between httpd-fcgi and httpd-cgi.
Note that fcgi name is more used than fastcgi in packages names.

httpd-wsgi has already been requested. See #588497. So far, no one seems
to have run into a practical requirement for the others, although if you
have some cases where we'd use them (as opposed to just a theoretical
need), please do file a debian-policy bug about that.

I have the feeling it is a good idea to enforce web servers to declare their
abilities like that. Today many webapps can run through fcgi, whether they are
in php, ruby, c... but they can't state that fact in their control fields.
Instead, i've seen some of them depend on apache2, whereas they can run with
 any other httpd-fcgi (example: roundcube-core)
Trouble is i'm not good at argumenting this in a bug report.

I think you've made yourself clear. Let's just open the bug with this
mail to track what's already been said.

Using another encoding (even utf8) makes it work again. However, I *really*

 I solved using:

 \usepackage{fontspec}

extended UTF characters were missing from the output pdf).

I'm sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your investigation! I'll

Okay, seen that.

Just out of my curiosity, do you strictly need 5.0.3 (the current
upstream version) or could you work with 5.0.2 (the one currently in
Debian)? I am simply asking because if 5.0.3 is *necessary* for most of
the users, maybe we should ask for it as a stable-proposed-update,
instead of simply relying on backports.d.o.

No, or to be more clear: I didn't check yet. I'm still running lenny
systems with bacula. Considering #606262, I'm not going to upgrade
before I tested that and possibly even worked on a lenny-update to fix
that.

I even -- since I started to look at bugs in the package first before
looking here :-/ -- started to work on bacula, i.e. I have a clone of

For sure we are interested, the more people are looking at a package the
better it is, but there is an overlapping effort going on: José planned
to prepare an update version for this week-end, so I guess you should
contact him and check to not do any duplicate work anymore.

I have not done anything yet, given that José promptly replied me (in
private), so I decided to let him doing the work and jump in later. I
have some complaints/improvements in my head, I will come back ;-)

Okay, I'm in contact with him. Seems, I'm the only one who's commited
anything yet. As soon as I have a git history that doesn't need rebasing
anymore, I'll push it to alioth. Then I hope you're alright with my
changes and we can go on from there...

Absolutely, yes.

  /usr/share/bacula-director/update_mysql_tables

Thank you very much for the script.

Given that this is an upstream bug (bacula-user@ mailing list cc:ed for
comments), it would probably be a good thing to check with upstream if
they have already provided a solution. If this is not the case and
there is interest for it outside Debian, I would be more than happy to
 push your script to upstream.

For the latter to happen, however, your script should share the same
Bacula upstream license, do you agree with that?

 http://www.bacula.org/en/dev-manual/main/main/Bacula_Copyright_Trademark_.html

Or, if not pushed upstream and included in Debian-only, the license
should be the same as the one José and John chose for their packaging
work. Since I could not find any note about it, José, John, could you
 enlighten us, please?

Actually, our debian package already handles such upgrades. It simply
started off of a false premise, that is having db version 11 in lenny.
I'm still thinking about this but, if I'm not mistaken, the lenny

For what it's worth, I've been using the cyrus otp plugin without opie for

Here we are and I suggest we proceed, i.e.

(1) drop the binary package libsasl2-modules-otp from cyrus-sasl2,
(2) remove libpam-opie from unstable,
(3) remove opie from unstable.

Objections?

Bug#493778: Insanely long package description for texlive-latex-extra

Moreover, the nature of the list makes it constantly changing...or
never up-to-date...which gives the same result : it is impossible to
 translate in the DDTP.

I have to at least partly disagree here. Having the actual CTAN package
names in the description of a collection package makes searching for
them possible in a sane way:

apt-cache search $whatever-i-am-missing

Of course, there is apt-file but this is a way worse interface
considering how files are often named.

I do agree about the very long description, though. A better solution
would be nice.

Sorry for coming back to this only so late. True, avelsieve doesn't need

Bug#618769: ITP: logreq -- LaTeX compiling helper

2011-03-18 Thread Jan Hauke Rahm
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jan Hauke Rahm j...@debian.org

* Package name: logreq
  Version : 1.0
Upstream Author : Philipp Lehman pleh...@gmx.net
* URL : http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/logreq/
* License : LPPL
  Programming Lang: LaTeX
  Description : LaTeX compiling helper

The logreq package helps to automate a typical LaTeX workflow that
involves running LaTeX several times, running tools such as BibTeX
or makeindex, and so on. It will log requests like please rerun
LaTeX or please run BibTeX on file X to an external XML file
which lists all open tasks in a machine-readable format. Compiler
scripts and integrated LaTeX editing environments may parse this
file to determine the next steps in the workflow in a way that is
more efficient than parsing the main log file. In sum, the package
will do two things: 1) enable package authors to use LaTeX commands
to issue requests, 2) collect all requests from all packages and
write them to an external XML file at the end of the document.

Thanks for checking! It seems biber can be considered a more loose

Well, biber can be considered a recommendation. So, no problem there.

biblatex (as of 0.9b) has another new dependency: logreq which I don't
see in Debian yet. I can easily package it, I guess. I'll have a closer
look in the next few days. Maybe uploading biblatex 1.2 isn't such a bad
 idea after all. :)

This OTOH is a problem. logreq is a dependency since 0.9b and has itself
a dependency on etoolbox 1.9 which is part of texlive and available in
version 1.8.

Yes, my fault. I shouldn't have put it back into texlive but instead
kept it as a single package. Didn't do it, now it's messy. :(

Thus, two options: 1) wait for TL2011, 2) package etoolbox again,
conflict with tl, upload a new version of tl without etoolbox, package
logreq, upload biblatex 1.3.

No, biber was not included in TL 2010 as of the released version.
We (TL upstream) are just now in the process of including it.
TL 2011 will probably include it.

That might be true but we're not exactly close to having it in Debian,

Not at all, I will probably skip 2010 and go for TL 2011 as target for
 the next Debian release.

I figured.

Now that biblatex has reached some kind of stability, we should consider
adding it back to the texlive packages anyways. Don't know what's the

 It should be packaged independently.

Since newer biblatex versions depend on logreq and biber... should we
package both for now to keep biblatex working? Once TL2011 is ready to
be uploaded, we could remove both and make TL provide the package names.
OR we wait with all of it but I suppose TL2011 will take quite some
time, right?

I've had similar situations but IMHO --svn-prebuild is the wrong place
for a call to dch. debian/changelog should be committed to SVN
beforehand, if necessary using a script instead of an alias. It's a
misuse of prebuild to make changes to the changelog itself - just as it
would be to make changes to debian/control or add a patch as part of
 prebuild.

--svn-prebuild should not be used in ways which break existing release
goals (like building twice in a row without changes).

I'm tempted to close this as not a bug.

I understand you have this problemand the other one you've submitted

enum enumerates values (numbers) between two values, possibly further

printing, values are passed through a formatter. Very fine control over
input interpretation and output is possible.

enum is designed to be a drop-in replacement for GNU seq while still

This Extension implements the ManageSieve protocol for securely
managing Sieve Script on a remote IMAP/POP server through a comfortable
 graphical frontend.
It is able to manage separate sieve filters for each configured
account in Icedove and can automatically use the credentials from the
 IMAP/POP/ account.

So this is an icedove extension? I'd suggest to name the package
'icedove-sieve' then (or similar). 'sieve' is pretty generic as it could
also be an imap server extension or even a stand alone sieve
implementation.

Bug#584193: smf-utils and denemo: error when trying to install together

2010-06-02 Thread Jan Hauke Rahm
Hi Ralf,

thanks for catching that.

The new maintainer of denemo split out the smf library which I uploaded

Unfortunately we missed a Conflicts, obviously. :-/

Description: Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator
Mame is an arcade machine emulator: it includes a Z80, 6502 and
lastly I86 uP emulators, joined to several arcade machine hardware
emulators. Each arcade emulator contains a full description about
hardware, mem maps, video, sounds and so, making possible that if
you have original ROM images of a supported arcade game, you can
 play the game.
 .
You NEED the rom images to play a game: this is not a game
emulator, just an arcade machine one.
 .
This package provides files common to all versions of the emulator.
To get the actual emulator, install one or more of
 xmame-x, xmame-svga or xmame-sdl.

Description: A graphical menu editor for openbox
Obmenu is a graphical menu editor for the Openbox window manager.
Openbox uses XML to store its menu preferences, and editing these by hand
can quickly become tedious. This utility provides a convenient method of
editing the menu in a graphical interface, while not losing the powerful
features of Openbox such as its pipe menus.
 .
This also provides a Python module named obxml that can be used to further
 script Openbox's menu system.

Bug#558060: Patch for the l10n upload of avelsieve

2010-05-24 Thread Jan Hauke Rahm
Hi Christian,

On Mon, May 24, 2010 at 09:32:43AM +0200, Christian PERRIER wrote:
On Monday, May 17, 2010 I sent you a notice announcing my intent to upload a
NMU of your package to fix its pending l10n issues, after an initial
notice sent on Wednesday, May 12, 2010.

We finally agreed that you would do the update yourself at the end of
 the l10n update round.

 That time has come.

To help you out, here's the patch which I would have used for an NMU.
Please feel free to use all of it...or only the l10n part of it.

Thank you very much. I'll upload soon!
