Bug#787505: libnss3: NSS 3.19.1 breaks icedove IMAPS to server with DH 786 temp key

2015-11-23 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: libnss3
Followup-For: Bug #787505

I was bitten by this also. My imapd server was a rather dull courier-imap-ssl
server, and the DH key length was left as is since its installation (probably
etch). My config file was mostly untouched, and no warning came.

I followed the procedure here :
http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/206448/imap-account-stopped-working-after-upgrade-to-ios-9-problem-with-cacert-certif?answertab=active#tab-top

and it worked fine.

Bug#784351: sending mail does not work due to tinymce.min.js missing

2015-05-10 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: roundcube
Version: 1.1.1+dfsg.1-2
Followup-For: Bug #784351

Dear Maintainer,

I confirm that this bug is easily solved by copying
roundcubemail-1.1.1/program/js/tinymce to
/usr/share/roundcube/program/js/tinymce/
and commenting out the aliases in your web configuration.

I find it strange that a webmail not able to send mail is not
considered broken (severity: important).

Bug#771073: usbmuxd: Cannot connect via tethering (iphone 3GS)

2014-11-26 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: usbmuxd
Version: 1.1.0-1

Dear Maintainer,

I have been using happily for some time the iphone tethering. At some point
recently (it worked apparently
on 2014-11-22, now on 2014-11-26 it does not anymore), I got the following

 * ios says it has connection working (flashing alert message on phone)
 * gnome/network-manager reports cable as unplugged in USB device

Bug#755970: gnome-shell: extensions.gnome.org does not work with chromium/chrome

2014-07-24 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.12.2-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Since April 2014, chromium and chrome have no more support for NPAPI.
Therefore, extensions.gnome.org does not work there any more with
these browsers.

I hope somebody will port the NPAPI plugin to PPAPI or whatever the
new API for plugins is called.

Thanks anyway.

2014-06-17 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Using the git tree of usbmuxd as of today (but there were no changes in
the last 20 days), and recompiling usbmuxd (that was a bit of an effort,
especially as the latest version is not tagged), I now have a splendid
(old) iphone working perfectly as a relay for internet. The files are
mounted, and I thing ios7 even works for this one.

My patch to debian/control relative the one in

(which also enables autoreconf ; this may be a bit more invasive than
what you are comfortable with) is short:

The black and white fonts for emacs are still there in emacs24 (X version).
However, emacs24 now supports color themes accessible easily out of the
box through M-X load-theme with several schemes available.

Configuration through Xresources should be obsoleted. I'd rather have these
defaults in a lisp-style file somewhere.

Also, I do not see any value in diverging from upstream there.

In conclusion, I think this bug should be closed, but I will let
that to the appreciation of the original submitter.

An email was returned while Ccing the original submitter. My Danish is
not very good, but we can certainly assume that this address is no longer
valid. Considering that the promised help will probably never come,
that the themes are widely available and easily accessible in emacs24,
I will reassign this bug to emacs23. I'm letting the maintainer choose
what to do with it, but I suggest one of these two :

 * Either the bug is tagged wontfix, and it could be cloned to emacs24
 * Or this bug is closed.

Bug#745844: [Pkg-gtkpod-devel] Bug#745844: Bug#745844: libimobiledevice-utils: Segfault with iphone 3GS on many utilities

2014-05-10 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Browsing the various issues on the github branch, I saw :
https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice/issues/66
and
https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice/issues/68

They both seem related. And it looks like they all point to segfaults
when not using usbmudx version 1.0.9.

Following on that, I read this:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=746634

I have no time today to test with an updated usbmuxd, but after reading
these reports, I'm pretty sure a dependency is in order. I'll follow up
with info as soon as I got enough time to try.

I did. The results are below.
Remark that I have to plug twice the device before getting something
other than No device found, is it plugged in?. It may not be new. It
may also be because when inserting the device, the udev machinery tries
to use some exec that segfaults (same as ideviceinfo).

That extension is simply incompatible it that gjs version and since
there is not package dependency, it's impossible to detect that on upgrades.

I don't think that this is a bug in libgjs0c, fwiw and I'm inclined to
 close it.

Thanks. Is there an alternative to that?

Bug#708120: cairo-polygon-intersect.c: SIGSEGV in active_edges

Bug#703485: linux-image-3.8-trunk-amd64: Battery not detected on Dell Latitude E5530

2013-03-20 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.8.3-1~experimental.1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

While trying to resolve stability issues with the testing linux image,
I tried kernel 3.8 in experimental. I fully understand that this kernel
may not be used in production. However, when booting with this kernel,
the battery is not detected (and thus, laptop-detect thinks that it is
a desktop computer, which it is not). Of course, no /proc/acpi/BAT0 is
created, which makes system tools not work. I think the problem lies
in the kernel because of this.

The first significant difference that I see in the logs is:
-ACPI Error: [DCK9] Namespace lookup failure, AE_ALREADY_EXISTS
(20121018/dswload2-330)
-ACPI Exception: AE_ALREADY_EXISTS, During name lookup/catalog

while in 3.2 I get:

Package: clementine
Version: 1.1.0~rc1+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After installing Clementine from experimental, I try to setup this program
to use my collection from Google Drive.

But I can see no option, no setting to this effect.

I am using a Gnome desktop.

Am I missing something?

Bug#690141: gnome-settings-daemon: Ignores GPG configuration when launching Mail with media keys

2012-10-10 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: gnome-settings-daemon
Version: 3.4.2-5
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When launching my email client (icedove) with the mail key on my keyboard
(or when redefining the the key, potentially any key on the keyboard), the
program icedove is correctly launched. However, the GPG environment is
(provided, in my case, by seahorse) is not available.

I suspect this is linked to #539395 in its Debian description, however,
the bugs upstream quoted in the bug do not seem to describe the same
thing.

the linked parts in the anchor name. For example, section DEBUG will
be called DEBUG but have a name #debug for anchor.

Dear Maintainer,
A new version of biber is available.
You are aware of that (because of the conflicts with biblatex 2.0 not
in Debian yet, only 1.7).

However, leaving this bug open would avoid people worrying about
the fact that this is not something you forgot, but rather something
not possible at the moment (and not only because of the freeze).

Bug#670664: libdb5.1-java: Recommends libdb5.1-java-gcj even if gcj is not installed

2012-04-27 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: libdb5.1-java
Version: 5.1.29-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

I installed libreoffice. I do have java installed (openjdk-7, I think).

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

Just that.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

This package pulled libdb5.1-java-gcj and some other gcj packages. This
is completely superfluous. I understand that this is just a recommendation,
but for something as common as libreoffice to pull gcj packages, this is
a bit too much when another java package is there.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Suggesting the compiled version of libdb5.1-java for gcj instead of
recommending it.

*** End of the template - remove these lines ***

2011-04-03 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: shotwell
Version: 0.9.0-1
Severity: important

I wanted to try out the experimental version of shotwell because my camera
has video files. However, as soon as I click on a picture (not even trying
to import anything new), it just crashes. The last lines of strace are:

Bug#595014: openssh-server: X11Forwarding does not work when net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1

2010-08-31 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: openssh-server
Version: 1:5.5p1-4
Severity: normal

It was a bit difficult to find, but when doing net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 =
1
(and thus disabling ipv6 at the kernel level, which was required for our network
setup here), the X11 forwarding does not work any more as shown by this piece
of output of sshd -D -ddd:
[...]

debug3: sock_set_v6only: set socket 10 IPV6_V6ONLY

More annoying, this fails completely silently.

Bug#583546: fontforge: Fontforge does not start (segmentation fault) because of defoma

2010-05-28 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: fontforge
Version: 0.0.20090923-2
Severity: normal

Recently I had a trouble with fontforge (not starting, segmentation fault, as
in #524310)
The Xorg.0.log said things like FreeType: couldn't open face
/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType/DejaVuSerif-Roman.ttf: 1 for
each try
(and another font before that:
FreeType: couldn't open face

it is probably due to /var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType being in

After moving /var/lib/defoma away, the problem disappeared

/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType/KacstQuraFixed.ttf and
/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType/DejaVuSerif-Roman.ttf were
broken
symlinks. There are many others.

Bug#580286: pam: blanks /etc/motd when update-notifier-common is installed

2010-05-04 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: pam
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

This one was a bit hard to track down. After a while, my /etc/motd
would be reduced to one empty line or info about packages updates.

It happens that pam_motd executes /etc/update-motd.d if it exists (with
run-parts) but nothing in this directory rebuilds the standard motd.

This could be a bug in update-notifier-common, or in pam (not providing
a small file such as:
ebene:~$ cat /etc/update-motd.d/00-header
#!/bin/sh
uname -snrvm
[ -f /etc/motd.tail ] cat /etc/motd.tail

* imapd.c (imapenhancedidle): Make FAM error more meaningful.

), icedove displays on each mailbox change:

Filesystem notification initialization error -- contact your mail
administrator (check for configuration errors with the FAM/Gamin library)

This is really troublesome, and also does not seem to have a visible
effect.

Is it possible to revert the transmission of this info?

Bug#577635: cm-super-minimal: ships /usr/share/texmf/doc as a directory, not a link

2010-04-13 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: cm-super-minimal
Version: 0.3.4-3
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

This package ships documentation under /usr/share/texmf/doc, which is in
tex-common
a link to /usr/share/doc/texmf. If the packages are installed in the wrong
order (unpacked),
/usr/share/texmf/doc ends up being a real directory, and thus all documentation
(but the one
in cm-super-minimal) is missing from /usr/share/texmf/doc.

The documentation should simply be shipped to /usr/share/doc/texmf instead.

The patch is simple:
Line 158 of debian/rules, simply change:
dh_link -p $(minpackage) usr/share/doc/$(minpackage)
usr/share/texmf/doc/fonts/cm-super
in
dh_link -p $(minpackage) usr/share/doc/$(minpackage)

jcdubacq whereas it should do that: DPKG_COMMANDLINE=dpkg-buildpackage -us
-uc ${DEBEMAIL:+${DEBFULLNAME:+\-e$DEBFULLNAME $DEBEMAIL\}} $DEBBUILDOPTS
jcristau jcdubacq: no it should not use that at all
jcdubacq some hours ago, I was told DEBEMAIL should be only the address
jcristau correct.
jcdubacq if only the address is in DEBEMAIL, lintian says
changed-by-name-missing
jcristau but there's no reason for pbuilder to use dpkg-buildpackage -e

That makes sense: with no args, dpkg-buildpackage does the right thing
if DEBEMAIL is set and DEBFULLNAME is set.
So let the work be done by dpkg-buildpackage.

Bug#577442: xkb-data: Support for Logitech Elite Keyboard

2010-04-11 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: xkb-data
Version: 1.8-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

(please refer to
https://www-lipn.univ-paris13.fr/projects/jcdubacq/wiki/FixKeyboard#TheLogitechEliteKeyboard
for context, esp. starting from Using USB connexion...
)

The Logitech Elite keyboard works now sufficiently good out of the box to
be (maybe) included in the xkb-data distribution. Currently only this needs
to be added (in symbols/inet):

// Logitech Elite Keyboard
partial alphanumeric_keys
xkb_symbols logielite {
key I224  {   [ XF86Messenger ]   };
key I226  {   [ XF86iTouch]   };
};

Other things may be done for a fuller support (geometry, etc.) and can be
done if somebody is willing to include it (this keyboard is a bit out of
fashion, but it is mine).

There is a remaining bug in the kernel support of this keyboard:
 * two keys have the same code (in xev)
 * one key sends a button press!

This is probably akin to #496959. Since libxml2-utils does not have

libxml2-utils were installed after libxml2, and then removed.

Possibly. I did not check if the _current_ version of libxml2-utils
shipped with a symlink or a directory. If this is the case that it ships
a directory now:
 * preinst should check whether /usr/share/doc/libxml2-utils is a link
to the original target (and not another), if it is, then remove it.
 * prerm should reinstate it if there is an abort-upgrade condition.
 * there should be a conflict with current libxml2 version so that
libxml2 files are reinstalled (by pulling in a new version of libxml2).
No replaces necessary, since dpkg does not know they are the same files.

The last bit is optional (only if we are adamant about reinstalling
libxml2 documentation files).

This package previously existed in Debian/non-free, but was
removed due to lack of maintainership and being non-free.

Since I use this for teaching, and that the license changed
to BSD (except for one documentation file with no source),
I am willing to package and maintain it (with a sponsor).
A (lintian-clean) preliminary package is available at
http://debian.lipn.fr/html/package.spim.html

Since this package has been maintained in Ubuntu, I intend
to contact the Ubuntu maintainer and merge her changes if
they fit (such as a .desktop file, which I deemed at first
unnecessary).

Debian no longer ships with an xorg.conf by default. Therefore,
telling people to edit their xorg.conf to make certain changes is not
really helpful, since there is no file to edit. Nowadays, you might
need to provide a complete minimal xorg.conf.

Indeed. However, my xorg.conf is just:

BusID PCI:1:0:0
Option RandRRotation on

I will look a bit at the README.Debian file.

I don't agree for two reasons:

 * maintainer-name-missing and uploader-name-missing are both automatic
rejects in the ftp-master checks, which makes them automatically
severity: serious in Lintian. That's not the specific one that you're
asking about, but that's the rule that Changed-By references.

 * The Policy description for Changed-By says The name and email address

That's a statement of what that field shall include, which means that if
it doesn't have the name and e-mail address, it's a syntax error and
therefore is a violation of an implicit must.

I see where your reading is coming from, but suspect the best fix is to
just change the Policy wording to make it clear that this is a must.
There's really no reason to use a different format, and Debian elsewhere
 already requires names.

Then let's reassign to debian-policy.

quite as simple as it seemed yesterday.

  * I do not understand why /etc/sudoers is not simply a conffile,
especially now that /etc/sudoers.d is supported.

History and inertia, mostly. The current processing actually pre-dates
clean conffile handling by dpkg, and largely pre-dates my taking over
the sudo package from Michael Meskes in 1996.

The one reason I can remember this morning to not just replace the
current handling without further thought is that removing sudoers on
purge can cause problems for people moving systems between sudo and
sudo-ldap. Leaving the sudoers file in place on a purge was deemed the
least evil choice the last time I reviewed this functionality in April
of 2007 in response to #401366.

However, since sudo and sudo-ldap conflicts with each other, if the rm
is made on purge, it is not purged because of conflicts (only
deinstalled). You could also have a sudo-common, which owns the files.

And in fact, I think the best solution would be to do what some
databases do, and would correspond to what you aim to do with the other
files: namely, preventing losing root access for people using sudo as
sole root access. Ask a question with debconf about whether /etc/sudoers
should be deleted on purge, and if it is yes, then delete. People
having a root password will gladly say it should be cleaned, and people
going to some length to have no root password will simply say no.

But well, it is more work.

  * the stanza with update-rc.d looks like it will not change anything

In most cases, it won't. The code is there because a very old version
of sudo created an inappropriate set of links for the startup script
fragment. This stanza caused any lingering instances of that mess to be
cleaned up. It has been enough years that we can probably remove that
code with no penalty... but it certainly does no harm.

In fact, what I meant is: It won't do anything because the man page for
update-rc.d says:
~When invoked with the remove option, update-rc.d removes any links in
~the /etc/rcrunlevel.d directories to the script /etc/init.d/name. The
~script must have been deleted already. If the script is still present
~then update-rc.d aborts with an error message.
which means that in the postinst (where the script is always present),
it will never do anything.

Anyway, nice having some explanations. I feel more knowledgeable tonight.

Sincerly,

Bug#574404: sudo: postinst uses prompting

2010-03-17 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: sudo
Version: 1.7.2p5-1
Severity: minor

sudo's postinst uses prompting, which is not allowed by section 3.9.1 of
policy. Given the probability of it actually being triggered, I rated this
minor (but it could be considered RC by nitpickers).

Also, I spotted other very minors bugs in this postinst:
 * I do not understand why /etc/sudoers is not simply a conffile,
especially now that /etc/sudoers.d is supported.
 * /etc/sudoers is not cleaned on purge (it should, and would if it were a
   conffile)
 * the stanza with update-rc.d looks like it will not change anything
 * it does not stop in cases of errors

Reading the various scripts, I suspect the postinst could be written in
shell very simply:
#! /bin/sh
set -e
# make sure sudoers has the correct permissions and owner/group
chown root:root /etc/sudoers
chmod 440 /etc/sudoers

# For the following, I am not sure this is not a bug
# This surely does nothing at all!
update-rc.d -f sudo remove /dev/null 21 || true
update-rc.d sudo start 75 2 3 4 5 . /dev/null || true

if [ $1 = configure ]; then
addgroup --quiet --system sudo || {
  # addgroup failed. Why?
if ! getent group sudo /dev/null ; then
echo Could not create system group sudo. 2
 exit 1
  fi
  # well, the group is there, so just ignore the error
fi

Bug#574026: unicode-screensaver: Please provide a white-on-black version

I think you can override the defaults by placing a .desktop file
somewhere in ~/.config – I’m not aware of the defaults ATM. If you
figure out how to do that, and provide me with a suitable .desktop, I
can add it to /usr/share/doc/unicode-screensaver/examples and add a note
to README.Debian where to install that.

I had to look around a bit, but I found it:

cat $HOME/.local/share/applications/screensavers/unicode.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Unicode
Exec=/usr/lib/xscreensaver/unicode -root -background black -foreground red
TryExec=/usr/lib/xscreensaver/unicode
Comment=Repeatedly randomly picks an unicode character and displays it
in a very large font size together with its unicode code point and the
character name. Written by Joachim Breitner; 2009.
StartupNotify=false
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Screensaver
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;

If one wants several settings, one just has to use several names.

Maybe everyone knows how to do that; I did not.

2010-03-15 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: unicode-screensaver
Version: 0.2-1
Severity: wishlist

Currently, unicode-screensaver is by default black on white background,
which is a bit unusal and surprising for a screensaver. The package should
provide a something on black (could be red on black or white on black)
desktop file either as a replacement for the current one or in addition
to it.

Patch: just change the Exec line to read:
Exec=/usr/lib/xscreensaver/unicode -root -background black -foreground red

My preference would go to replacing the current file.

Thanks for packaging this enjoyable screensaver.

thanks for your interest in unicode-screensaver. Did you read the other
 bugreport about this issue:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=561261
I prefer it this way, and as the author, I reserve the right to have the
 default after my taste :-)

No, I had not (but now I do) (because the bug was closed). As Christine
said, I do still think that white-on-black is a better default
than black-on-white, but it _is_ your software and you can
do what you like with it :)

If you use xscreensaver, you can easily configure it using the
 xscreensaver configuration tool.

I use gnome-screensaver.

Not sure if it is appropriate to provide two .desktop files for the
users of gnome-screensaver; it goes against the GNOME philosophy of
having not too many configuration options.

Several screensavers from the xscreensaver used to correspond to
multiple choice, but it looks that it is no more the case. Thus I
support your choice of not shipping several desktop files.

Thanks anyway.

Bug#571413: libpurple0: connecting and disconnecting too frequently to AIM

Bug#570623: reprepro: please add multiple version management

2010-02-20 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: reprepro
Version: 4.0.2-1
Severity: wishlist

Currently, indices built by reprepro only show the latest version of
a package. I really would like to use reprepro to have an archive
with multiple versions of a package accessible (eg for rollback).

currently I do something like that after each addition to the
repository:
cd debian
apt-ftparchive generate conf/storage.conf
apt-ftparchive -c conf/releasestorage.conf release dists/storage
dists/storage/Release
if [ -f dists/storage/Release.gpg ]; then
  rm dists/storage/Release.gpg
fi
gpg --output dists/storage/Release.gpg -ba dists/storage/Release
cd ..

But it does not take only what is tracked in the 'storage' dist,
it takes everything in the pool.

It would work much better at reprepro level.

Yes, the executable bit was lost when trasmitting the diff. A patch is
included that ensures the helper is executable. Meanwhile, you can fix
this by using

The information that nvidia_helper should be executable was lost during

The most reliable way is probably to hard-set these permissions in the
install process, instead of relying on svn-whatever to extract those
correctly.

Other possibility is to mark the files as executables, and hope for the

Scripts with shebang should be chmoded 0755 by default when installed,
wherever they are (unless, maybe, to /usr/share/doc).

For example, scripts with shebang (#! /) (or #!/) put in /lib/udev or
/usr/lib/ConsoleKit/run-seat.d should. Since a list of these places
will be hard to come by, I think having a shebang should make you
executable by default.

Maybe this is for compat=8 only.

Bug#518566: [pkg-nvidia-devel] Bug#518566: get rid of modprobe warning about /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-kernel-nkc

2010-02-11 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
On Thu, 11 Feb 2010 08:01:58 -0500, James Vega james...@debian.org
wrote:
Is there a chance of getting the below patch applied at some point?
It's
fairly straight forward and will be required when the modprobe finally
 stops
loading files from /etc/modprobe.d that don't end in .conf.

This patch is a bit incomplete. It does not deal with the case where the
upgrade fails. A postrm is needed to get the old configuration file back
in
this case (a corner case, admittedly). I have prepared such a patch.

I have (as announced on the mailing-list) a nvidia-kernel-common package
which resolves all declared bugs,
and some others. I post the relevant parts here for reference, but as some
reformatting was involved,
I hope the patch is good enough.Index: debian/nvidia-kernel-common.postinst

Bug#568999: nvidia-kernel-common: provide ConsoleKit compatibility

2010-02-09 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: nvidia-kernel-common
Version: 20080825+1+nmu1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Please include this patch that provides ConsoleKit compatibility and
avoids the need to be added to the video group for console users.

Since the devices are still owned by the video group, there is no trouble
for people already in this group, and old methods still work.

Bug#568097: seahorse-plugins: gpg-agent still overrides seahorse in gnome sessions

2010-02-02 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: seahorse-plugins
Version: 2.28.1-2
Severity: normal

When closing bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=443115
something was forgotten: gpg-agent is still started before seahorse-agent
(because it is numbered 90 and thus executed later, so startup which acts
as a stack executes gpg-agent = dbus-launch = seahorse-agent, and
seahorse-agent writes in .xsession-errors:
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
** Message: Another GPG agent already running

and drops managing gpg keys.

One way to do this would be to unset GPG_AGENT_INFO in $STARTUP string in
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/60seahorse. The minor inconvenience is that a
gpg-agent is started for naught (but it can still be found in
$GNUPGHOME/gpg-agent-info-$HOSTNAME).

Another way is to launch gnupg-agent much earlier, at stage 59.

Or put ssh-agent at stage 92 and gnupg-agent at 90 and seahorse at 91.

Or modify ssh-agent and gpg-agent to return if their functionality was
overridden, for example checking SSH_AGENT_OVERRIDE and GPG_AGENT_OVERRIDE
(which could be defined by 60seahorse or any other replacement of
their functionalities.

This is because you didn't set DEBEMAIL with your name; you can set:
 DEBEMAIL=Loïc Minier l...@dooz.org

  We should deal with this better, but this is going to be subtle;
checkout the code of dch for reference handling of these vars:
 if (exists $env{'DEBEMAIL'} and $env{'DEBEMAIL'} =~ /^(.*)\s+(.*)$/) {
 $env{'DEBFULLNAME'} = $1 unless exists $env{'DEBFULLNAME'};
 $env{'DEBEMAIL'} = $2;

 $env{'DEBFULLNAME'} = $1 unless exists $env{'DEBFULLNAME'};
 $env{'EMAIL'} = $2;
 }
 }

the logic continues for some dozens of lines.

In an ideal world, consider making this code a separate utility, e.g.
  get-debian-maintainer which would output:
 EMAIL=foo...@baz
 NAME=Foo Bar

Thanks!

However, other debian utilities expect DEBEMAIL to be only the email and
DEBFULLNAME to be only the name (depatch for example).

I would be very happy if this were made into some program.

Bug#565746: pbuilder: please add hooks to be executed just before saving after login-or-execute

2010-01-18 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: pbuilder
Version: 0.196
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Currently, scripts that modify the image in the F series of hooks have to be
idempotent, since they are not reversed when --save-after-{login,execute} is
used.

Sometimes, it would be useful to instead split the script in two, one removing
what was done in the initialisation. This patch introduces the H series to
undo
what was done at the F stage (or something else).

Bug#560160: cupt: fails with packages where installed_size is undefined

2009-12-09 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: cupt
Version: 1.3.1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hello,

I had some exotic packages installed on my system with no definition for
installed_size.
Cupt fails ungracefully:
Use of uninitialized value $bytes in numeric lt () at
/usr/share/perl5/Cupt/Core.pm line 311, $fh line 119.
 at /usr/share/perl5/Cupt/Core.pm line 311

Cupt::Core::mycatch() called at /usr/bin/cupt line 145
main::main() called at /usr/bin/cupt line 157

The fix is really simple: add a ...if defined $version-installed_size at end
of line 527 (like what
is done on line 526 for size).

Minor bug, since normal packages do have the installed_size field.

Bug#554773: cupt: Wrong computation of preferences/pinning

2009-11-24 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Eugene V. Lyubimkin a écrit :
 David Kalnischkies wrote:

 Yes, seems so.

 2009/11/23 Eugene V. Lyubimkin jackyf.de...@gmail.com:
 - one for each origin/release/distribution (e.g. sid or )
I don't understand this one. And anyway it isn't stated anywhere, so it
 doesn't count.
In The Effect of APT Preferences it is said:
The general form assigns a priority to all of the package versions
in a given distribution (that is, to all the versions of packages that
are listed in a certain Release file) or to all of the package versions
coming from a particular Internet site, as identified by the site´s fully
 qualified domain name.
(I have quoted the first few words already in my first mail)
That phrase doesn't say anything about the same version entry treating is
multiple ones, one for each Packages which it belongs to.

So why it is not stated somewhere and therefore doesn't count?
The versions from a different distribution/origin doesn't have a pin
assigned yet, so another pin-setting can match them.
Yes, for cupt they all are the same version (which I considered natural). This
concept is one of libcupt's cornerstones.

Jean-Christophe, now it's up to you to decide which point you support. If the
bug got reassigned to libcupt in the end, I will mark it 'wontfix'. I don't
want to play reassigning ping-pong as well.

My reading is now the same as yours (Eugen) :
The APT preferences file /etc/apt/preferences and
the fragment files in the /etc/apt/preferences.d/
folder can be used to control which versions of
packages will be selected for installation.

Several versions of a package may be available
for installation when the sources.list(5) file
contains references to more than one distribution
(for example, stable and testing). APT assigns a
priority to each version that is available.

The crux of the problem is the definition of a version.
Either the documentation in apt_preferences man page (which belongs to
apt) is fixed to say that a package version is the tuple
(name,version_number,somethingelse) or a package version is indeed the
tuple (name,version_number) which is the most natural for a _version_ of
a _package_.

For now, I think that a package version is a package and a version
number. APT assigns a priority to each version that is available
(quoting the man page), and one priority only.

I am quite sure that if the documentation were to be fixed, certainly
Eugen would (with is cupt developer hat on) would consider a package
version to be whatever the documentation says it should be.

2009-11-04 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: cupt

I really would like cupt to be able to retrieve its file list from a file
(or some combination of files and args on cmdline, but I just need one
file for my personnal projects). The syntax could be '@/some/file' instead
of a package description (in which case, the content of the file is
read line by line and each line becomes a package description).

I had php5-suhosin installed yes (probably from a former installation).

A new stable poppler library is out since May 16, 2009.
It fixes at least one bug that annoys me:
core:

I would be very thankful if it could be done.

Coq is currently uninstallable in unstable, because ocaml changed its

Sorry? There is no such thing as the Bonjour protocol. Bonjour is a trademark
registered by apple for a suite of different technologies. Also this is not
translated by the french translators, the protocol in add accounts is Salut in
every language. Salut being our implementation of XMPP XEP-0174.

If one is very strict we should call the protocol serverless XMPP messaging or
similar, but that's not actually helpful to anyone. Anyway, this is not a bug,
 closing the report

OK. It is just very strange looking and it really will let people think
that this is a translation error. Moreover, Pidgin calls it Bonjour
and when you import accounts, it shows up as Salut (which is really
the same thing as Good day and Hello). Quite confusing, indeed.
However, I may file a bug against pidgin (indeed, they are not using
Bonjour® as a name without using the official Bonjour source, only Avahi
the free software equivalent).

In a clean chroot, either

works correctly.
