Bug#575726: linux-image-2.6-amd64: Kerneloops when wpa_supplicant terminated on 2.6.32 kernel with rt2860sta driver

2010-03-28 Thread John Halton

Package: linux-image-2.6-amd64
Version: 2.6.32+25
Severity: important

I'm not sure if this is the correct version (or package - may be
wpa-supplicant?) to file against, but it affects all versions of the
2.6.32 kernel that I've tried (including linux-image-2.6.32-4 in sid), and
doesn't affect the 2.6.30 kernel.

Whenever wpa_supplicant is deactivated (whether by killing the process or
during a normal shutdown) I am getting a kerneloops that prevents the
computer from completing shutdown. Here is the relevant syslog output:

Bug#563500: rhythmbox: iPod scrobbling incompatible with Last.fm anti-spam system

2010-01-03 Thread John Halton
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.12.6-1
Severity: important

When Rhythmbox scrobbles plays from an iPod (and presumably other media
players), it scrobbles them as at the time they were played on the media
player.

This means that if you have any later scrobbles from another source (e.g.
directly from Rhythmbox itself), the earlier media player scrobbles get ignored
by Last.fm as part of its anti-spam system.

It would be better to follow the approach taken by Amarok 1.4, of submitting
the media player scrobbles backwards from the time the scrobbles are submitted.

Example: if I listen to tracks A and B on my media player at 12 noon and 12.05
pm on 1 January, then listen to track C on Rhythmbox at 1 pm on 2 January, and
then plug my media player in to Rhythmbox at 2 pm on 3 January, the current
behaviour of Rhythmbox means the track A and B scrobbles will be timestamped 12
noon and 12.05 pm on 1 January, and Last.fm will then ignore it as it pre-dates
the existing scrobble of track C.

The Amarok-type behaviour would be to submit track A with the timestamp 2 pm on
3 January and track B with the timestamp 1.55 pm (say) on 3 January. Last.fm
then records these quite happily.

Bug#549570: amarok: Amarok hangs when iPod connected

2009-10-04 Thread John Halton
Package: amarok
Version: 2.2.0-1
Severity: normal

When my iPod is connected, Amarok hangs while it completes connecting
the iPod: window greys out, if music is playing it stops at the end of
the current track.

Once iPod has finished connecting, Amarok carries on working as
normal.

Thanks,

John

Bug#549490: libgpod4: Cover art fails to transfer to 80GB iPod Classic

2009-10-03 Thread John Halton
Package: libgpod4
Version: 0.7.2-1.1
Severity: normal

I'm unable to transfer cover art to my iPod - have tried Amarok 1.4,
2.1 and 2.2, along with Rhythmbox, so I assume it's a libgpod4 issue.
Cover art transferred fine in Lenny, but ever since I upgraded to
Squeeze a month or so back I've not been able to transfer cover art.

If you need any further information then please let me know.

I'm getting the same problem. I attach an edited output from running

Bug#483819: libcompizconfig0: Couldn't load plugin 'ccp'

2008-05-31 Thread John Halton
I'm having the same problem here, using gtk-window-decorator.

Please note also that the same problem occurs if you load compiz
rather than compiz-fusion by running compiz --replace gconf. The title
bard and window borders disappear in the same way, except in that case
you don't get the Couldn't load plugin 'ccp' error.

Here's the output when running with the gconf option under Gnome:

$ compiz --replace gconf
Checking for Xgl: not present.

Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
Checking for non power of two support: present.

I don't know whether that means the problem lies elsewhere than in the
libcompizconfig0 library.

Bug#472092: mutt: Header caching appears to be totally non-functional

2008-03-21 Thread John Halton
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.17+20080114-1
Severity: normal

I have header caching enabled in my muttrc file, but when opening
large folders (e.g. my Gmail All Mail folder) mutt loads the entire
set of headers each time, which can take several minutes.

When I check the header cache folder, it contains a list of files in
the form such as All Mail.hcache, Starred.hcache etc, consistent
with the folder/label structure for my Gmail account. However, the
size of each of those files is zero, even straight after accessing a
particular folder.

This problem appears to have been discussed inconclusively in #459739,
and a similar issue was mentioned under #434544. However, I haven't
seen any mention of the zero-sized files before, so thought I would
file this as a separate bug.

Relevant lines from my muttrc file:

set maildir_header_cache_verify = no
set header_cache = '~/.mutt/cache/headers'
set message_cachedir = '~/.mutt/cache/bodies'
set header_cache_pagesize = '32000'

Thanks,

John

Bug#466315: newsbeuter: Bloglines feeds don't synchronize

2008-02-17 Thread John Halton
Package: newsbeuter
Version: 0.7-3
Severity: important

Bloglines synchronization doesn't appear to work.

I've enabled bloglines synchronization, including setting
bloglines-auth with my Bloglines user name and password. However, when
I then start newsbeuter, instead of getting a list of feeds whose
unread items can then be accessed, I get a list consisting of entries
in the following form for items that have not yet had any unread
items:

http://[username]:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/getitems?s=[feed_number]

and for those that have (or have had) unread items, the name of the
feed appears, but the unread items themselves do not get listed and
are not accessible. Selecting the feed results in an error message
saying Error: Feed contains no items!

The first issue (concerning items which have had no unread items) is
understandable (albeit annoying) and probably unavoidable, as
Bloglines only generates a blank feed for those items. It's the second
issue (inability to access unread feeds which I know are there) which
is the real problem, and which appears to make the Bloglines
synchronization feature completely unusable (hence the important
tag).

Thanks,

John

If you're able to downgrade to a 0.18.x version of libmrss, then do so.
That should fix your problem. A couple of bugs with similar symptoms

Bug#459222: f-spot: No right click anymore

2008-02-11 Thread John Halton
I've reopened this bug as I am still having the same problem with
f-spot 0.4.1-4. I don't have the extension to which Julien Valroff
referred in his last email (Develop in UFraw).

As Julien had indicated he'd already fixed the bug by rebuilding, I've
changed the submitter details for this bug to myself - hope that
doesn't cause problems/tread on toes, as I'm not sure what the
etiquette is for this!

Thanks,

Bug#449475: Serious doubts about the distributability of a file

2008-01-07 Thread John Halton
On Jan 7, 2008 1:38 PM, Vincent Fourmond [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I agree that the notices are incompatible, but I think the problem is
more fundamental. The big problem is in the licence terms for the UNC
code:

Permission to use, copy, modify and distribute this software and its
documentation for educational, research and non-profit purposes, without
fee, and without a written agreement is hereby granted,

This limitation to educational, research and non-profit purposes
makes the UNC code non-free. So if any UNC code is included in the
file in question, then this makes the file undistributable in main.
Probably OK in non-free given that Debian is a non-profit
organisation.

This affects both Amarok 1.4.6 and 1.4.7 (which I installed to see if
that cleared the problem).

Bug#444768: Audacity crashes when opening preference dialogue

2007-09-30 Thread John Halton

Joost Yervante Damad wrote:

Hello,

Can you please try with
wxwidgets version 2.6.3.2.2-1 ?

There was a problem in an earlier version with the new gnome/gtk+.

Thanks, Joost

Thanks. The new wxwidgets is only in Sid for AMD at the moment, but once
the i386 version arrives I'll give it a try.

Bug#412045: Problem when Installing mysql-server-5.0

2007-02-23 Thread John Halton

I had a similar issue a few months ago with the mysql package being in
a very bad inconsistent state, and with no apparent way of either
uninstalling or fixing the package. If you do a Google search for
'mysql debian Package is in a very bad inconsistent state' you will
find a number of others whom this has affected.

The solution that worked for me is the one found in the first comment
here - www.debianhelp.org/node/1962 - of setting the RUNLEVEL
initialisation variable at start-up. I mention this in case it helps
track down/reproduce the problem. It seems the problem may also be
related to splashy, unless I have misunderstood what the commenter in
that thread is saying.

Bug#402309: Multiple credit-card charges for single Magnatunes purchase

2006-12-09 Thread John Halton

Package: amarok
Version: 1.4.4-1
Severity: serious

When you make a purchase using the Magnatunes integrated store, Amarok
issues the payment instruction multiple times, resulting in overcharging.

While Magnatunes are very good at picking up on this (it seems it's an
upstream bug that's happening to a number of people) and reversing the
charge, it strikes me that a bug that costs users *actual money*
deserves at the very least a serious tag. (Credit card fees and
currency exchange rates means you don't get the full amount back if
you're not paying in US dollars.)

Reproducing the problem: go to the Magnatunes integrated store,
right-click an album title and select purchase. Enter your credit card
details and click purchase.

Expected behaviour: get charged the chosen amount, once.

Observed behaviour: get a single confirmation that the transaction has
been a success, with links to download the track. But then emails come
through indicating that the transaction has in fact been processed more
than once - I'm currently looking at three separate confirmation emails
for a single purchase, with three separate charges to my card.

Bug#396475: Celestia seg-faults on start-up

2006-10-31 Thread John Halton

Package: celestia
Version: 1.3.2-4
Severity: grave

Celestia crashes on start-up. This applies whether I start from the
Gnome menus or from command line, and whether I use celestia,
celestia-gnome or celestia-glut as the command.

Here's the output from running celestia from a terminal window:

DCOP aborting (delayed) call from 'anonymous-29184' to 'celestia'
celestia: ERROR: Communication problem with celestia, it probably crashed.

Similar error for celestia-gnome, but less informative - just says
Segmentation fault at end instead of DCOP aborting... etc.

Running 2.6.18-1-686, Xorg 7.1, ATI graphics card with fglrx driver
(OpenGL is working).

If you need any more details then please let me know.

Thanks,

John

Bug#353595: openoffice.org: no orientation option in printer dialogue

2006-02-19 Thread John Halton

Package: openoffice.org
Version: 2.0.1-2

OOo's printer options dialogue does not include an option for setting
the orientation. This means that (among other things) the brochure
printing feature does not work properly - printing two A6-size pages at
in the top half of a portrait-oriented A4 sheet rather than two A5-size
pages side-by-side on landscape-oriented A4.

I checked OOo's own bug-tracking site and this bug has apparently been
fixed in the upstream version of OOo 2.0.1. See
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=57091

Assuming I've understood the version numbering correctly, 2.0.1 is the
version I currently have installed (see version number above) so I was
wondering why this bug still appears in the Debian version.

System details:

a. Running (mainly) Etch, 2.6.15-1-686 kernel

b. cupsys version: 1.1.23-12

c. Printer/driver: Epson Stylus Photo R300, driver from Gutenprint (i.e.
gimp-print package version 4.3.99+cvs20060121.dfsg.1-1).
