Bug#677650: proposed fix for this bug

 Hi!

Since this tool is working fine with Ruby 1.8, a solution would be to
change the shebang to /usr/bin/ruby1.8 and depend on ruby1.8 instead of
ruby. This would be worfing at least for Wheezy, since ruby1.8 belongs
to the repository, and will give time to upstream to adapt unhide.rb for
 Ruby 1.9 or higher.

Attached is a proposed patch to fix this issue. If there is no
objection, I am considering updloading it in a couple of days.

Please do it now if you have time!
unhide.rb is about to be removed from testing if this bug isn't closed
within the next few days.

Thanks for your work!

Bug#662588: unhide: incorrect use of alternatives

2012-03-09 Thread Julien Valroff
Hi Piotr,

Le lundi 05 mars 2012 à 09:09:48 (+0100 CET), Piotr Engelking a écrit :
The unhide postinst script switches the unhide alternative to manual
mode, which is a violation of section 3 of the wheezy RC policy. The
manual mode is provided for the system administrator.

The use of the alternative is also broken: it decides which binary to
run based on which kernel was used at the package install time, which
is not necessarily the kernel that is used at run time.

Please remove the alternatives. One correct replacement would be to use a
wrapper to choose the binary. This is, however, no longer necessary, since
Debian doesn't support pre-2.6 Linux kernels anymore, so a simpler solution
is to just use the 2.6 features unconditionally on Linux systems.

Thanks for spotting this - will work on this during the week-end, latest
within the end of next week.

 Dear Maintainer,

Currently Pino does not allow connecting to Twitter. Attemps to connect
result in these lines in Pino's log:

 GET: http://api.twitter.com/statuses/home_timeline.xml
401 Unauthorized: the request requires user authentication
 GET: http://api.twitter.com/statuses/mentions.xml
401 Unauthorized: the request requires user authentication
 GET: http://api.twitter.com/direct_messages.xml
401 Unauthorized: the request requires user authentication

I think this is caused by Pino trying to use the old basic auth method on
twitter, however the only way to authenticate on Twitter is OAuth.

Pino 0.2.x indeed does not support OAuth, and will never support it as the
development has been stopped by upstream author.

You can use the following instructions to use Pino with Twitter and OAuth:
http://supertweetnews.140plus.com/p/how-to-use-pino-with-the-new-stand-alone-supertweet-twitterapi-proxy/bo785

(this page is linked from upstream homepage, I haven't personally tested it,
please consider it as an unsupported workaround only)

OAuth support is supposed to be added to 0.3.x but it actually seems
upstream development has stalled.

I leave this bug open but be aware it is unlikely to be ever fixed, except
when I ask pino to be removed from the archive...

Bug#657103: rkhunter: Invalid BINDIR configuration option: Invalid directory found: ~/bin

 .bash_profile:PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:${PATH}
 .bash_profile:PATH=~/bin:${PATH}

OK, I have finally managed to get this behaviour, ~/bin is not expanded...

[...]
The question as to why BINDIR in the config file is being ignored remains.

Read around line 2122 of rkhunter:

# The BINPATHS list is prepended with the root PATH. However,
# any specified BINDIR directories beginning with a '+' will
# be prepended before the root PATH.
#
# Once that has been done, we check that each directory begins
# with a '/'. We remove any non-existent directories, but we do
# not flag this as an error. We also remove any duplicate directories.

Hence the root PATH is then always considered, contrary to what I had
originally thought. The behaviour you describe is IMHO normal, the cause is
the fact you don't allow ~/bin to be expanded to /home/user/bin.

Simply change your .bash_profile to state PATH=~/bin:${PATH} and it should
work as expected.

Julien

Bug#657103: rkhunter: Invalid BINDIR configuration option: Invalid directory found: ~/bin

2012-01-26 Thread Julien Valroff

 Hi

 Shell is bash 4.2-1.

How do you define your $PATH?

Make sure you do not use ' which would prevent ~/ from being expanded to
/home/username/

PATH=$PATH:~/bin

is enough

The rkhunter warning is actually normal as it doesn't accept any directory
in $PATH or $BINDIR which doesn't begin with / - which is a safe way to
avoid relative paths.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#657103: rkhunter: Invalid BINDIR configuration option: Invalid directory found: ~/bin

2012-01-23 Thread Julien Valroff
package rkhunter
severity 657103 important
thanks

Le mardi 24 janv. 2012 à 02:38:05 (+0100 CET), Jesse Molina a écrit :
 Package: rkhunter
 Version: 1.3.8-10
 Severity: grave
 Justification: renders package unusable

Lowering the severity as it seems the package is unusable only in specific
circumstances.

 When doing sudo rkhunter --propupd, error;
Invalid BINDIR configuration option: Invalid directory found: ~/bin

Both the user and root user have ~/bin in their $PATH, which seems to trigger
 the issue.

 Note that;

 --egrep ^BINDIR /etc/rkhunter.conf
 BINDIR=/bin /usr/bin /sbin /usr/sbin /usr/local/bin /usr/local/sbin
 /usr/libexec /usr/local/libexec

But, it complains and fails anyway.

This indeed shouldn't happen as $PATH should only be used when BINDIR
configuration option doesn't exist.

What is your default shell? I'm surprised it leaves ~/bin in $PATH - it
should be automagically changed to an absolute path.

% grep PATH ~/.zshrc
## PATH definition
[ -d ~/scripts ] PATH=$PATH:~/scripts
[ -d ~/bin ] PATH=$PATH:~/bin

% echo $PATH
/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/games:/usr/games:/home/julien/scripts:/home/julien/bin

rkhunter then complains as it only accepts bin directories beginning with /
to avoid any relative paths being used.

Additional opinionated dribble: At this point, the package, which offers
limited value to me anyway, becomes too much trouble to be worth
configuring so I'll just not deal with it. If the designer wishes for a
security package like this to be effective, it needs to be useful in it's
default configuration so that minimal manual intervention is required to
 do the job.

Very hard to make a default configuration for every possible system while
keeping everything as secure as possible - just as with any other piece of
software, you have to spend some time to configure it. If you want to help
in improving the Debian package, you are welcome to join the pkg-forensics
team. Upstream also welcomes patches.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#652170: new libprocps0 package

2012-01-14 Thread Julien Valroff
Le mercredi 11 janv. 2012 à 23:50:12 (+0100 CET), Craig Small a écrit :
 Hello,
Apologies for the rough ride around the libprocps library change.
The latest procps now has split out the shared library into its own
package. This should mean that there is less of this problem in future.
You will need to download libprocps0-dev and re-link the program to
-lprocps. There is also a pkg-config file if you need that.

I've tested it with xmem and it builds fine with 2 small changes.

In future, there will be a large API change but that will be in a new
library version package so it won't be like the programs suddenly stop
 working like before.

Thanks Craig for your work, I have just built guymager against
libprocps0-dev and uploaded it to the archive.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#654583: WARNING: gnome-keyring:: no socket to connect to

2012-01-14 Thread Julien Valroff
reassign 654583 gnome-keyring

Hi,

Le mercredi 11 janv. 2012 à 14:51:32 (+0100 CET), Teodor MICU a écrit :

What happens if you run such a cron job by hand when not in an X session?

Today I watched the Cron run without X/gnome/gdm running at all. The
 result was the same:

 # Date: Wed, 11 Jan 2012 07:34:27 +0200
 /etc/cron.daily/00logwatch:
WARNING: gnome-keyring:: no socket to connect to

I have never seen this behaviour, maybe you have any specific configuration?

I don't think so. On all systems (desktops, servers) I have 'ssmtp' to
provide the 'sendmail' interface, thus no SMTP daemon. One think I've
noticed a few days ago is that something was changing the hostname
from the FQDN (frost.DOMAIN -- set from /etc/hostname) to just 'frost'
 but I didn't investigate further.

Also, today I obtained this message while doing packages upgrades:
 | Processing triggers for man-db ...
 | Processing triggers for menu ...
 | Processing triggers for desktop-file-utils ...
 | Processing triggers for gnome-menus ...
 | Processing triggers for hicolor-icon-theme ...

 | WARNING: gnome-keyring:: no socket to connect to
 | WARNING: gnome-keyring:: no socket to connect to
 | Updating PPD files for postscript-hp ...
 | Updating PPD files for splix ...
 | Processing triggers for gconf2 ...

Usually this warning appears on the email from Cron. Other ideas?

No idea on my side but given your answers, it seems this is an issue with
gnome-keyring, I hence reassign this bug to the appropriate package.

Cheers,
Julien

chkconfig is not widely used on Debian and the default rkhunter

I have added them as comments in the default configuration file.

2012-01-08 Thread Julien Valroff

Hi,

A bunch of new versions were released since 6.3.1. As per offlineimap.org,

These recent releases fix lots of bugs and regressions, and add new
features.

BTW, your watch file doesn't point to the right repository (should be

When I execute the script from an X session I don't get this warning.
This is somehow important due to the spam-like daily email from rkhunter.

I cannot reproduce this on my system. Does it happen after you have closed
your X session (ie. gnome-keyring could still be running) or also after a
fresh boot?

Can you please send the related part of rkhunter.log?

Cheers,

 Yes, sorry for the typos.

I have fixed this in git.

The ifndef isn't really nessacery I just thought was nicer to only
apply the trick when it was actually needed.

Thanks again for your patch. Everything seems to work OK but as I normally
don't use ext3grep, I let regular users test by themselves and will then

Thanks for reporting this issue.

However, I am not sure to understand what you mean: do you thin you get a
warning because system is found in a running process name?

I fail to understand how this could happen, at least in the current code, as
the possible suspicious *files* are grepped in the lsof output using the
following code:
  FOUNDFILES=`grep /${FNAMEGREP}$ ${RKHLSOF_FILE}`

In the version 1.3.6 you use, the following code is used:
  FILENAME=`${LSOF_CMD} -wnlP -F n | grep '^n/' | sed -e 's/^n//' | ${SORT_CMD}
| ${UNIQ_CMD} | egrep /(${SUSP_FILES})\$`

which means, in your example, that '--system' could not be matched.

Also, note that the suspicious files listed in the warning are checked with
the output of lsof which lists open files, and not running processes (as
does ps). 'dbus-daemon --system' is not a file, but a running process.

I hence fail to understand what triggers the warning you get. Have you
checked the logfile and the lsof output?

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#645815: network-manager-gnome: Should not create system-wide connections by default

2011-10-18 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: network-manager-gnome
Version: 0.9.0-3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

nm-connection-editor creates system-wide connections by default. This forces
the active user to authenticate as an administrative user or as root.

The previous behaviour (I'd say before 0.9 but not 100% sure) was imho
correct: standard users could create private connections without needing
extra rights. The current default behaviour prevents standard users from
creating any connection, even private.

Cheers,
Julien

Not quite true, as you can still create connections in nm-connection-editor
 which are not system-wide.

True, but then, the user has to know what an SSID is, what kind of
encryption scheme is used etc. Which I think is against NM philosophy.

But the new behaviour is definitely annoying.
That said, it is something upstream did purposefully and is most certainly not
 going to change.

Too bad, espacially as this can lead to unsecure situations: I had to send
*my* password to my girlfriend by SMS yesterday, as she *had* to connect to
a new wireless network and could not do it herself.

Policykit default configuration doesn't help. My user is in the sudo group,
but I still use the root account. Then, the only administrative user is
me. I had to add my girlfriend account to the sudo group to avoid similar
situations in the future, but I do not think it is optimum (I know I could
add a .pkla file to allow specific user/group to deal with NM system wide
settings, but I don't consider it a nice workaround neither).

The default NM behaviour should definitively be configurable, I totally
agree with Vincent on this point.

Please follow up on the existing bug report #642136

All my apologies, I have missed this bug report when looking for similar
issues.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#644754: openbox: Please document configuration changes to be made after upgrading to 3.5

2011-10-08 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: openbox
Version: 3.5.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainers,

It would be great to state the changes to be made to one's configuration
after upgrading to the 3.5 release in NEWS.Debian.

The ArchLinux wiki has a small section about the major changes [0] and also
about troubleshooting 3.5 [1] which was really helpful for me.

By the way, the 3.5.0-1 package doesn't ship any environment file, but still
contains an autostart.sh file which can be misleading for the end user (at
least, it was for me).

Thanks for your work.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#644756: openbox 3.5 fails to display /var/lib/openbox/debian-menu.xml

2011-10-08 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: openbox
Version: 3.5.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainers,

After upgrading to 3.5.0-1, I had no more Debian menu entries. My
.xsession-errors file contains the following message:
Openbox-Message: Unable to find a valid menu file
/var/lib/openbox/debian-menu.xml

The file obviously exists.

When symlinking this file into $HOME/.config/openbox/, it works as expected,
which shows the file generated by update-menus is correct.

I have noticed a similar bug was reported against the Ubuntu package [0]
some months ago, ie. before the 3.5 release.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#642932: mailgraph does start up after upgrade to wheezy

2011-09-25 Thread Julien Valroff
Hi,

 Dear Maintainer,

Found that the mailgraph application is not starting up on an LXC system
after it was upgraded to wheezy/sid. Initially thought it might be
because I had kept the old mailgraph /etc/default file when I upgraded
the system, so tried makeing the new one active but that did not resolve
the issue. Checking through /etc/default/mailgraph and
/etc/init.d/mailgraph found that it looks like the BOOT_START
parameter at line 7 of the default /etc/default/mailgraph should be
true instead of the Yes that appears to be set in the default
configuration of the file. Changed that parameter from Yes to true
and was then able to start mailgraph with no other apparent issue.

Thanks for spotting out this possible issue.

The default configuration file is set to true, not Yes (see
/usr/share/mailgraph/default.conf).

As this file is managed via ucf and debconf, running `dpkg-reconfigure
mailgraph' should set the correct value (ie. true or false depending on
your choice, the default being true).

I have to check how upgrade from Squeeze to Wheezy is handled in the case
the existing default file is set to Yes (which might have been the default
value in the Squeeze version).

Cheers,
Julien

In Ubuntu, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following:

   * Resolutions for issues outlined in MIR - LP: #795159:
 + debian/patches/93_bug795159.diff: removed add to sys.path at
 beginning
   of the code (unneeded, potential security issue);
 + debian/rules: delete auto-installed /usr/share/python/runtime.d
 (LP: #795159)

 Thanks for considering the patch.

Hi,

Please note that ajaxterm hasn't been maintained upstream for some years (the
original maintainer is unreachable).

As for your patch, while I totally agree as for the sys.path call, the
runtime.d script is used in case of a default python runtime change (see Debian
python policy section 1.6 :
http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/python-policy/ch-python.html#s-runtimes_hooks)

I'll thus only apply the first part of your patch to the Debian package (see
Debian bug #638332), thanks for sharing it

Cheers,
Julien

Internal Server error , Error 500. Looking in /var/log/apache2/suexec.log

The only way I found till then was to comment out the SuexecUserGroup
line in /etc/apache2/conf.d/dspam.conf but ... it is not a solution .

The SuexecUserGroup directive should indeed be located in a VirtualHost
block to restrict its effect to this virtual host.

Would you please test the attached apache configuration snippet and tell me
what you think of it?

It creates a virtual host listening on port 8024, only reachable from the
local machine.

Bug#608340: daemon fails to create shell session with --daemon

 Hello,

I can provide additional information for this bug. I experience it if I
 configure

Thanks for your detailed explanations. Unfortunately, I still fail to
reproduce the problem, testing on several machines.

I have contacted the author of the patch which adds UTF-8 support to
Ajaxterm.

You mention in your email that Ajaxterm crashes (or so) when you raise 'ls
-l'. Do you have any files/directories with specific encodings in your ~/ ?
what locale do you use on your server?

Because of the unicode error message, I should perhaps add my browser version
Firefox 5.0 on Windows 7. I accessed the ajaxterm remotely via squid
 2.7.STABLE9-4.

I use Iceweasel 5.0 on Debian, but I do not think it is related. However, if
you have the possibility to test with another browser/platform...

By the way, I can confirm the problem that ajaxterm does not react on
 Ctrl+C when in non-daemon mode:

 ^CTraceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/share/ajaxterm/ajaxterm.py, line 652, in main
 g_server.serve_forever()
   File /usr/lib/python2.6/SocketServer.py, line 224, in serve_forever

 KeyboardInterrupt

I fail to understand what is the problem there?

The locale of the user I log in with is set to en_US.

You mean en_US.utf8?

Check with `locale' or `echo $LANG'.

There was one file with a German umlaut. After I renamed the file,
ajaxterm doesn't crash when calling ls -l.

Great! This doesn't allow me to reproduce the issue, I only have UTF-8
locales on my various machines.

How do I find out the exact encoding of a file name?

You can try running convm on this file:
  % convmv -t utf8 Überprüfung.txt
Your Perl version has fleas #37757 #49830
Starting a dry run without changes...
  Skipping, already UTF-8: ./Überprüfung.txt
No changes to your files done. Use --notest to finally rename the files.

See, in that case, it detects the filename is already encoded as UTF-8

I've found a python alternative at [0].
In my example, it gives:
   import os
   import chardet
   chardet.detect(os.popen(ls *ng.txt).read())
  {'confidence': 0.75245, 'encoding': 'utf-8'}

By the way, I can confirm the problem that ajaxterm does not react on

   r, w, e = select.select([self], [], [], poll_interval)
   KeyboardInterrupt

I fail to understand what is the problem there?

I can't terminate the daemon. Shouldn't that be possible with ctrl+c?

It does in my case, which is why I didn't understand the issue. This is
however unrelated to the major problem, will check this afterwards.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#633342: ITP: gsimplecal -- lightweight GUI calendar application

2011-07-09 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Julien Valroff jul...@debian.org

* Package name: gsimplecal
  Version : 0.8
Upstream Author : Dmitry Medvinsky dmedvin...@gmail.com
* URL : http://dmedvinsky.github.com/gsimplecal/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : lightweight GUI calendar application

gsimplecal is a lightweight calendar application written in C++ using GTK2.

It was intentionally made for use with tint2 panel in the openbox environment
to be launched upon clock click, but of course it will work without it. In
fact, binding the gsimplecal to some hotkey in you window manager will
probably make you happy. The thing is that when it is started it first shows
up, when you run it again it closes the running instance. In that way it is
very easy to integrate anywhere. No need to write some wrapper scripts or
whatever.

Also, you can configure it to not only show the calendar, but also display
multiple clocks for different world timezones.

Bug#633347: dh-make: control file has a build dependency on autotools-dev but dh_autotools-dev* not used in rules

2011-07-09 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: dh-make
Version: 0.59
Severity: normal

Hi,

A build dependency is automatically added when the sources contain a
configure file. However, the rules templates do not contain any
autotools-dev related rules (eg. --with autotools-dev for dh7 style rules or
calling dh_autotools-dev_* tools with `old' style rules).

With the current templates, autotools-dev will only be used when using cdbs
rules.

Cheers,
Julien

xfce4-power-manager. And indeed, killing it removes them all. They

It'd help providing logs from xfpm (running using --no-daemon and
--debug), but as you might have seen in this bug, I'm out of idea. I
never reproduced it on xfce4-panel, so it might be a bug in the
notification area code (either in awesome/fluxbox or, more probably, in
xfpm, though I don't have a clue where).

As explained in #632812, I have the same issue using openbox as WM and
tint2 as a systray.

This leads to think the issue is in xfpm and not in the systray.

I have also noticed that the extra space gets larger each time the computer
gets back from sleep.

It's too late for the latter, but I can try to do the former.

Too bad as I think it is either a problem in your configuration /
preferences or a bug in dspam which would cause the signature to be added in
both the headers and the body of the email.

Do you remember how you had configured the signature location option?

My goal was to minimize any disruption to the existing configuration.
In particular, I wanted to avoid any reconfiguration of the MTA (exim).
Therefore, both the responsibility of calling dspam (actually dspamc)
and actual disposition of emails was left to the delivery agent. The
delivery agent is my homemade one [1] but you can just imagine procmail
in its place, as the functionality is very similar.

If I am right, we are pretty sure in that case that the email is only sent
once to dspam before being delivered to the final mailbox/maildir?

Cheers,
Julien

Oh sorry, I didn't realize reportbug skipped the conffiles. I attach
a complete diff from the original configuration to mine.

The conffiles are chmod'ed 0600 as they may contain passwords... And yours
has one you have sent here - hope it is not a sensitive password!

The problem is that configuration file alone doesn't give all necessary
information as per the user preferences.

I'll try and reproduce this issue during the week end.

Bug#632827: xfce4-power-manager: settings window fails to show correct option values

2011-07-06 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: xfce4-power-manager
Version: 1.0.10-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

It seems some of the configuration options are not taken into account in
xfce4-power-manager-setting UI.

For example, if I tick the spin down hard drive options (on A/C and/or on
battery), close the settings window and launch it again, the options seem as
if they are inactive.

However, even if unticked, they are active:
% xfconf-query -c xfce4-power-manager -p
/xfce4-power-manager/spin-down-on-battery
true

This is very misleading as I first thought my changes weren't taken into
account at all.

I use xfce4-power-manager in a standalone openbox environment.

Cheers,
Julien

As far as I can tell, only “spin down hard disk” is concerned, or do you
 have other concrete examples?

At least the screen brightness value when IDLE on battery is also concerned.
It always displays the default 20% while I set it to 50%.

I haven't checked the actual value via xfconf though, I can do that once at

2011-07-05 Thread Julien Valroff

Hi,

I notice that after resuming from suspend/hibernation, there is a large
blank space on the right side of the xfce4-power-manager icon in systray.

Someone suffering from the same issue on crunchbang posted the followin
screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/eNJLf.png
(note that in my case, the gap is only on the right but seems larger that
the one shown on the screenshot)

Restarting tint2 brings icons back to normal.

I also sometimes notice duplicate icons (volumeicon or network manager
applet, one of them being totally inactive and useless).

I have tried building a package from the current SVN trunk but it didn't
help.

I see no error when launching tint2 from the console and do a suspend cycle.

I have just noticed a similar bug [0] was reported against xfce4-power-manager

I hence reassign this bug to xfce4-power-manager and merge these bugs.

Bug#632335: hotot: new version available upstream

2011-07-01 Thread Julien Valroff

I have no idea if it would be possible/feasible to update the hotot version
to the new one available upstream: 0.9.9

This version still doesn't exist, not sure why it is stated on the homepage
(or maybe the plan is to release once the version number is bumped to 0.9.9)

I plan to upload a new hg snapshot once a few bugs are fixed - for now, it
is safer to keep ~hg814 even in experimental.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#632392: dspam: configuration options for LMTP delivery seem to be ignored

I wanted to run dspam in daemon mode but I hate to have the open port
on 2424 (which would be unused since I only want to run the client
 with --classify or --stdout).

So, after reading the README, I modified /etc/dspam/dspam.conf as follows:

 DeliveryHost/run/dspam/=delivery
 #DeliveryPort 2424
 DeliveryIdent localhost
 DeliveryProto LMTP

I don't really understand what your exact objective, but you can easily use
a socket rather than a TCP port if the server and the client run on the same
machine. Use the ServerDomainSocketPath option rather than the ServerHost
and ServerPort options.

I don't close this bug for now, but it seems it is more a question of how to
configure DSPAM than a real bug.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#629169: gnome-screensaver-preferences ignores value of /apps/gnome-screensaver/idle_delay gconf key

2011-06-04 Thread Julien Valroff

Version: 2.30.0-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

When setting idle time in gnome-screensaver-preferences, the gconf key
/apps/gnome-screensaver/idle_delay value isn't changed.

On the opposite, changes made to the key using eg. gconftool-2 aren't taken
into acount in gnome-screensaver-preferences.

Other settings are correctly set/loaded.

Please note that I use gnome-screensaver outside of a GNOME environment
(ie. openbox).

Bug#586522: Please upload the volumeicon package

2011-06-02 Thread Julien Valroff
Hi Andrew,

Le dimanche 13 févr. 2011 à 22:26:28 (+0100 CET), Andrew Gainer a écrit :
I have prepared (what I believe is) a compliant Debian package for
volumeicon and am in the process of finding a sponsor.

I have quickly checked the package available on mentors.d.n and while it
is mostly ok, there are still a few things to improve:

  * You have made direct changes to the upstream source code, leading to the
creation of a debian-changes-0.3.0-2 patch
  * You don't need to depend on libgtk2.0-0 (the dependency is automatically
added by dpkg-shlibdeps)
  * For a first upload to Debian, please keep the changelog clean and make
sure the ITP gets closed
  * dpkg-shlideps warns about the binary to be linked against several unused
libraries - you might want to build the package using -Wl,--as-needed
  * You should specify the GPL-3 license text in a standalone license
paragraph as recommended in DEP-5
  * You miss several copyright information (mostly for autotools files etc.)
  * You ship an empty NEWS file in the package, as well as a useless README
(which only contains information on how to build volumeicon) - AUTHORS
is imho also useless as the information is also in the copyright file
  * Have you forwarded your manpage to the upstream developer?

I'd be happy to upload this package for you if you fix these points (or
argue why you won't fix some of them).

You can contact me directly, either by mail or on IRC (as jvalroff on
freenode and oftc).

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#628167: rxvt-unicode-256color: Gap between font glyphs with xft and hinting

2011-05-27 Thread Julien Valroff
Source: rxvt-unicode-256color
Version: 9.11-1.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

When using xft with hinting enabled and certain fonts, rxvt-unicode displays
a large gap between font glyphs.

The attached patch taken from ArchLinux fixes this issue.

I have tested it myself with success and I now enjoy from a really nice
looking terminal.

Thanks for considering this patch for the next upload, and thanks for your
work.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#627035: [rkhunher] rkhunter always fails with Invalid BINDIR configuration option:

2011-05-18 Thread Julien Valroff
package rkhunter

severity 627035 normal
retitle 627035 rkhunter fails when PATH contains . (ie. current directory)

Hi Thomas,

Le mercredi 18 mai 2011 à 08:59:27 (+0200 CEST), Tomas Davidek a écrit :

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
 This version always fails with
 ipnp21:/home/davidek# rkhunter -c --rwo
Invalid BINDIR configuration option: Invalid directory found: .

Even specifying the --bindir option does not help, e.g.:
 ipnp21:/home/davidek# rkhunter --bindir /sbin -c --rwo
Invalid '--bindir' option: Invalid directory found: .
 I can't reproduce this issue.

What is the output of the following command:
 grep ^BINDIR /etc/rkhunter.conf{,.local}

 Here is more info:
 ipnp21:/home/davidek# grep ^BINDIR /etc/rkhunter.conf
 BINDIR=/bin /usr/bin /sbin /usr/sbin /usr/local/bin /usr/local/sbin
 /usr/libexec /usr/local/libexec

 What is in your $PATH?
 ipnp21:/home/davidek# echo $PATH
 /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:.:/root/bin

I see, here is the problem. When I set $PATH to
 /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/root/bin,
then the problem disappears. My questions is then why rkhunter minds
the current directory being in PATH ?

 16682 # Create a spaced-separated PATH variable.
 16683 RKHROOTPATH=`echo ${PATH} | tr ':' ' '`

Then it is used to know where to locate the various commands used by
rkhunter etc.

Your problem comes from the fact `.' does not begin with a `/':
 2149 elif [ -z `echo ${DIR} | grep '^/'` ]; then
 […]
2152 echo Invalid ${RKHTMPVAR2} option: Invalid directory
found: ${DIR}

Not sure what to do with it, as having the current directory in the path for
root is generally considered dangerous. I doubt you really want to use that…
and I won't change rkhunter behaviour in Debian (I know upstream will disagree
with such a change).

I hence tag this bug as wontfix but would prefer closing it if you agree
with this.

Did you have the exact same configuration with previous version (1.3.8-5)?
Yes, I did not change anything.

I guess you haven't tested previous 1.3.8 versions as I can easily reproduce
this issue also with 1.3.8-5 (the only change introduced in the new version
has nothing to do with this issue anyway).

Cheers,
Julien

Lowering the severity as this problem seems to be a misconfiguration on your
side.

It sounds like the package is badly compiled

rkhunter is a shell script, hence cannot be 'badly compiled'.
