Bug#1053223: python3-ipython: Interactive embedding of ipython using the InteractiveShellEmbed method as documented, is broken
Package: python3-ipython Version: 8.14.0-1 Severity: normal X-Debbugs-Cc: lgp171...@gmail.com Dear Maintainer, The IPython documentation has the following example on embedding it. https://github.com/ipython/ipython/blob/8.14.0/examples/Embedding/embed_class_long.py This example does not work with the python3-ipython package version 8.14.0-1 in Debian unstable and throws an exception. Here is a minimal example `ise.py` file which can reproduce this issue. ``` from IPython.terminal.embed import InteractiveShellEmbed ipshell = InteractiveShellEmbed() ipshell() ``` On running this script with `python3 ise.py`, it opens the IPython interactive shell. Typing any statements and pressing enter to execute it, causes an exception. Below is an instance of this error happening. ``` guruprasad@debian-sid:~$ python3 ise.py Python 3.11.5 (main, Aug 29 2023, 15:31:31) [GCC 13.2.0] Type 'copyright', 'credits' or 'license' for more information IPython 8.14.0 -- An enhanced Interactive Python. Bug#801056: cloud.debian.org: Kernel headers are required to upgrade the guest-additions
Package: cloud.debian.org Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, The debian/jessie64 vagrant box published on HashiCorp Atlas doesn't have the linux kernel headers installed. When bringing up a VM, vagrant warns if the guest additions installed on the guest do not match with the VirtualBox version on the host. But the VM should work fine. There is a vagrant-vbguest plugin which automatically updates the guest additions installed on the guest to match that of the VirtualBox version on the host. It is widely used and even I have it installed on my system. Since the kernel headers are not installed, the installation of the guest additions fails and features like shared folders and etc. no longer work. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.2.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_IN.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_IN.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system)

Yes, I am able to start the VM using the VirtualBox GUI and it works absolutely fine. But when I do vagrant up, the VM gets created but does not get powered on for some reason That is why I suspected the issue to be with vagrant and reported the bug against it. >> I am not sure if recommending virtualbox-ext-pack will be of any help >> because recommended packages do not get installed unless the user >> explicitly chooses to install them. That package is part > of non-free, and was introduced very recently. Does Vagrant require the features provided by the non-free ext-pack? From what I have seen when reproducing this bug, it looks like it does. Because there were no errors after installing virtualbox-ext-pack and doing nothing else. Right now I am at office and am on my Macbook. So will share the vagrant debug logs if it is helpful to analyze the problem from the side of vagrant. Not sure if this is helpful, but before I installed the vagrant package from the Debian repository, I was using the 1.7.2 version installed from the package available on the Vagrant site and I did not get this error when using that. Since I found that vagrant was available in the Debian repositories, I removed it and then installed it from Debian's repos and started getting this error till I installed virtualbox-ext-pack. My bad! Didn't read about the packages before trying to install them :) But installing these packages or not having them installed does nothing to influence this issue. > >> But later when I installed virtualbox-ext-pack package from non-free, vagrant >> worked fine without the above error. Yes, vagrant is not tied to VirtualBox. But it is used most commonly with VirtualBox. So after installing vagrant, if "vagrant up" command fails with some error, that makes the package unusable for most of those users because that is the command to start a VM from based on a Vagrantfile. While this bug might not be "grave", imho it is definitely more severe than "normal". > I am copying the virtualbox maintainers to see if they have some input. > Maybe virtualbox should recommend virtualbox-ext-pack of something like > that. Ritesh Raj Sarraf has asked for more logs, if any. So I will uninstall virtualbox-ext-pack and then run vagrant up with debug logging enabled and share the logs collected. I am not sure if recommending virtualbox-ext-pack will be of any help because recommended packages do not get installed unless the user explicitly chooses to install them. So unless the user installs virtualbox-ext-pack, vagrant is broken for him/her when using with VirtualBox. Thanks & Regards, Guruprasad signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Bug#800800: vagrant: Running vagrant up to start a VM fails with error
Package: vagrant Version: 1.7.4+dfsg-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? * What was the outcome of this action? * What outcome did you expect instead? *** End of the template - remove these template lines *** I installed the latest vagrant package from the Debian repositories on my laptop running an up-to-date Debian unstable installation. I did this after removing vagrant which I had installed from the .deb file available on Vagrant website. When I run vagrant up to provision and start a VM, it fails with the following error: Bringing machine 'default' up with 'virtualbox' provider... ==> default: Importing base box 'lgp171188/jessie64'... ==> default: Matching MAC address for NAT networking... ==> default: Checking if box 'lgp171188/jessie64' is up to date... ==> default: Setting the name of the VM: xpens-master_default_1443896094725_70453 ==> default: Clearing any previously set network interfaces... ==> default: Preparing network interfaces based on configuration... default: Adapter 1: nat ==> default: Forwarding ports... default: 8000 => 8000 (adapter 1) default: 22 => (adapter 1) ==> default: Booting VM... ==> default: Waiting for machine to boot. This may take a few minutes... The guest machine entered an invalid state while waiting for it to boot. Valid states are 'starting, running'. The machine is in the 'poweroff' state. Please verify everything is configured properly and try again. If the provider you're using has a GUI that comes with it, it is often helpful to open that and watch the machine, since the GUI often has more helpful error messages than Vagrant can retrieve. For example, if you're using VirtualBox, run `vagrant up` while the VirtualBox GUI is open. The primary issue for this error is that the provider you're using is not properly configured. This is very rarely a Vagrant issue. I have installed the virtualbox-guest-utils, virtualbox-guest-x11 packages and still I got this error. But later when I installed virtualbox-ext-pack package from non-free, vagrant worked fine without the above error. So if this is clearly reproducible, vagrant package should depend on the virtualbox-ext-package which might cause vagrant to be moved to non-free section. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.2.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_IN.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_IN.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages vagrant depends on: ii bsdtar 3.1.2-11+b1 ii bundler1.10.6-2 ii curl 7.44.0-2 ii openssh-client 1:6.9p1-2 ii ruby 1:2.1.5.1 ii ruby-childprocess 0.5.5-1 ii ruby-erubis2.7.0-3 ii ruby-i18n 0.6.11-2 ii ruby-listen3.0.3-2 ii ruby-log4r 1.1.10-4 ii ruby-net-scp 1.2.1-2 ii ruby-net-sftp 1:2.1.2-3 ii ruby-net-ssh 1:2.9.2-2 ii ruby-nokogiri 1.6.6.2+ds-2+b1 ii ruby-rb-inotify0.9.5-1 ii ruby-rest-client 1.8.0-1 vagrant recommends no packages. Bug#789301: xul-ext-gcontactsync: Unable to sync contacts with app-specific password for Gmail with 2FA enabled
Package: xul-ext-gcontactsync Version: 1.0.0-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I have enabled 2 factor authentication on my Gmail account. Due to that, I had to create a separate application-specific password for Thunderbird to be able to access Gmail via IMAP and SMTP. But when I did that, gcontactsync addon was no longer able to sync contacts. It complained that I had to be logged in to sync contacts. I uninstalled this package and installed the latest version from Mozilla addons website - 2.0.5. I added my existing Gmail account to that and it popped up the Gmail login page in a window and on login asked permission to access and manage my contacts. Once that was done, it was able to sync the contacts without any issues. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.0.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_IN.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_IN.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#783974: pulseaudio: No sound on boot till pulseaudio is killed and restarted
On Saturday 02 May 2015 09:32 PM, Felipe Sateler wrote: guruprasad@kal-el:~$ cat ~/.config/pulse/client.conf autospawn = no This is the problem. Why do you have disabled autospawn? So, a bit of background: In pulseaudio up to version 5, the script start-pulseaudio-x11 started pulseaudio and loaded some modules. But in version 6, systemd support was added so that you could start pa as a user service. This meant that starting pulseaudio from outside systemd could interfere with starting it with inside, so start-pulseaudio-x11 was changed to no longer start pa, instead relying on either systemd support or autospawn to start the server. In debian we have not enabled systemd by default because of problems with dbus, so we rely on autospawn. All this is a fairly long way of saying that you have disabled pulseaudio by disabling autospawn. So please remove that client.conf file and see if it works (and undo the changes to /etc/pulse/*). I removed the file and things are working fine. I have never manually created or edited the ~/.config/pulse/client.conf folder. So not sure when and how the file got created since I have been running Debian unstable from a couple of months after the Wheezy release. So if the file is expected not to be there, I guess this bug is invalid. But on trying to adjust the volume it disappears again. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.11-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_IN, LC_CTYPE=en_IN (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-shell depends on: ii dconf-gsettings-backend [gsettings-backend] 0.18.0-1 ii evolution-data-server3.8.5-3 ii gdm3 3.8.4-3 ii gir1.2-accountsservice-1.0 0.6.34-2 ii gir1.2-caribou-1.0 0.4.12-1 ii gir1.2-clutter-1.0 1.14.4-3 ii gir1.2-freedesktop 1.36.0-2+b1 ii gir1.2-gcr-3 3.8.2-4 ii gir1.2-gkbd-3.0 3.6.0-1 ii gir1.2-glib-2.0 1.36.0-2+b1 ii gir1.2-gmenu-3.0 3.8.0-2 ii gir1.2-gnomebluetooth-1.03.8.1-2 ii gir1.2-gnomedesktop-3.0 3.8.4-2 ii gir1.2-gtk-3.0 3.8.6-1 ii gir1.2-ibus-1.0 1.5.4-1 ii gir1.2-mutter-3.03.8.4-2 ii gir1.2-networkmanager-1.00.9.8.0-5 ii gir1.2-nmgtk-1.0 0.9.8.4-1 ii gir1.2-pango-1.0 1.36.0-1 ii gir1.2-polkit-1.00.105-4 ii gir1.2-soup-2.4 2.44.1-1 ii gir1.2-telepathyglib-0.120.22.0-1 ii gir1.2-telepathylogger-0.2 0.8.0-2 ii gir1.2-upowerglib-1.00.9.23-2+b1 ii gjs 1.36.1-2 ii gnome-bluetooth 3.8.1-2 ii gnome-icon-theme-symbolic3.10.1-1 ii gnome-settings-daemon3.8.5-2 ii gnome-shell-common 3.8.4-4 ii gnome-themes-standard3.8.4-1 ii gsettings-desktop-schemas3.8.2-2 ii libatk-bridge2.0-0 2.10.0-1+b1 ii libatk1.0-0 2.10.0-2 ii libc62.17-93 ii libcairo-gobject21.12.16-2 ii libcairo21.12.16-2 ii libcamel-1.2-43 3.8.5-3 ii libcanberra-gtk3-0 0.30-2 ii libcanberra0 0.30-2 ii libclutter-1.0-0 1.14.4-3 ii libcogl-pango12 1.14.0-3 ii libcogl121.14.0-3 ii libcroco30.6.8-2 ii libdbus-1-3 1.6.18-1 ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.100.2-1 ii libecal-1.2-15 3.8.5-3 ii libedataserver-1.2-173.8.5-3 ii libegl1-mesa [libegl1-x11] 9.2.2-1 ii libgck-1-0 3.8.2-4 ii libgcr-base-3-1 3.8.2-4 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.28.2-1 ii libgirepository-1.0-11.36.0-2+b1 ii libgjs0c [libgjs0-libmozjs185-1.0] 1.36.1-2 ii libglib2.0-0 2.36.4-1 ii libgnome-menu-3-03.8.0-2 ii libgstreamer1.0-01.2.0-1 ii libgtk-3-0 3.8.6-1 ii libical0 0.48-2 ii libjson-glib-1.0-0 0.16.2-1 ii libmozjs185-1.0 1.8.5-1.0.0+dfsg-4+b1 ii libmutter0b 3.8.4-2 ii libnm-glib4 0.9.8.0-5 ii libnm-gtk0 0.9.8.4-1 ii libnm-util2 0.9.8.0-5 ii libnspr4 2:4.10.1-1 ii libnss3 2:3.15.2-1 ii libp11-kit0 0.18.5-3 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.36.0-1 ii libpangocairo-1.0-0 1.36.0-1 ii libpolkit-agent-1-0 0.105-4 ii libpolkit-gobject-1-00.105-4 ii libpulse-mainloop-glib0 4.0-6+b1 ii libpulse0

This is a fresh installation that is a couple of days old and this issue has been there right from the installation. I installed stable from netinst iso with just the bare minimum core packages, dist-upgraded to testing and then to sid. Then used tasksel to install laptop tools and desktop environment. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#708953: vlc: VLC open in single instance mode doesn't play files opened from nautilus Open with VLC
Package: vlc Version: 2.0.6-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I have VLC configured to run in single instance mode and when one instance of VLC is open and I try to play a file from nautilus by selecting Open with VLC media player from the right-click menu, it doesn't play the file at all. The same thing works fine if VLC is not open and it opens a new instance. Bug#682398: ITP: cows-and-bulls -- Words-based version of the cows and bulls game
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: L. Guruprasad lgp171...@gmail.com * Package name: cows-and-bulls Version : 1.0 Upstream Author : L. Guruprasad lgp171...@gmail.com * URL : https://github.com/lgp171188/Cows-and-Bulls * License : GPL Programming Lang: C++ Description : Words-based version of the cows and bulls game This is a words-based version of the 'Cows and bulls' guessing game. The user has to guess the word chosen by the game by guessing words of the same length. The game will reply to each guess by informing the user about the number of cows (alphabets in the word chosen by the game that are in the word guessed by the user in the exact same position) and bulls (alphabets in the word chosen by the game that are in the word guessed by the user in a wrong position). The user has to guess the correct word by improving the guesses based on the game's feedback and eventually guess the word chosen by the game. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
