Bug#570734: spamassassin: upgrade fails if AWL is configured

2010-02-20 Thread Matthew Carroll
Package: spamassassin
Version: 3.3.0-1
Severity: normal

On upgrading with AWL configuration lines in local.cf, e.g.,

auto_whitelist_factoryMail::SpamAssassin::SQLBasedAddrList

...this happens:

Setting up spamassassin (3.3.0-1) ...

Configuration file `/etc/spamassassin/local.cf'

==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.

This is because in the new version of SA, AWL is disabled by default.
However, no mention of this is made in news or changelogs. One of those
should inform SA users that if they want to continue using AWL with this
version,
they need to add "loadplugin Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::AWL" to a local.pre; or
alternatively remove AWL configuration lines from local.cf, or else the upgrade
fails.

Bug#399756: any progress

2009-08-21 Thread Matthew Carroll
reopen 399756
thanks

Hi James

I still think wordpress-mu would be a nice addition to debian. Reopening
the rfp as there's interest from you as well. We've been making do ok with
the regular debian package, in our case running 30 wordpress instances
from the one codebase. That said, for the reasons I mentioned above
(especially better theme and plugin separation between blogs) the mu
version would work better. Currently users of wordress instances we host
can switch to other people's customised themes, which is not ideal (it
doesn't cause problems but would be cleaner if they weren't visible).

Thanks
Matthew

Bug#500295: wordpress: Fix creates problems for sym-linked config files

2009-08-20 Thread Matthew Carroll
Package: wordpress
Version: 2.8.4-1
Followup-For: Bug #500295

This upgrade broke all of our wordpress instances, as the config files for each
site are sym-linked from /etc/wordpress to separate locations for each site.

Perhaps there is a better way of fixing this injection vulnerability that still
allows sym-linked config files? If not, then at a minimum users should be
notified of the change before the upgrade (news?) so breakages can be avoided.

Thanks
Matthew

Bug#529328: filters_spam_ config options prevent squirrelmail loading

2009-05-18 Thread Matthew Carroll
Package: squirrelmail
Version: 2:1.4.18-1
Severity: important

The following options in a squirremail user preferences file appear to
cause squirrelmail not to load:

filters_spam_folder=INBOX.Trash
filters_spam_scan=new
filters_spam_spamhaus=on

Squirrelmail fails to load with the warning:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in
/usr/share/squirrelmail/plugins/filters/filters.php on line 427

Removing those lines from the config file and logging in again works around
this bug, but that requires manually editing the conf file, which isn't
possible for many end-users of squirrelmail.

Thanks

Bug#483999: libcurl3: fails to use installed ca certificates

2008-06-01 Thread Matthew Carroll
Package: libcurl3
Version: 7.18.1-1
Severity: normal

libcurl no longer checks ssl certificates correctly. This worked before.
If the ca-certificates package is installed, it should probably check that
location by default for certificates.

Currently (using php5-curl) I now have to specify the certificate location:

curl_setopt($c, CURLOPT_CAPATH, "/etc/ssl/certs/");

This could easily be the default on debian by compiling using the
--with-ca-bundle option.

Thanks

Version: 1:0.3.0-10
Severity: normal

PHP in debian recently switched to a conf.d style configuration for activating
modules, but php5-ming still adds its extension line to the end of php.ini.
It would be nice to keep things consistent, and switch to activating ming in
conf.d instead.

Thanks

Bug#402689: mediawiki installs to all VirtualHosts

2006-12-11 Thread Matthew Carroll
Package: mediawiki
Version: 1:1.7
Severity: important

On installation, mediawiki sym-links from /etc/apache2/conf.d/mediawiki1.7.conf
to /etc/mediawiki1.7/apache.conf. Whilst convenient for single host, in a
multiple hosting environment this has the unwanted effect of creating a
/mediawiki alias on *all* VirtualHosts, and - potentially - overriding the
configuration of any VirtualHost that already has a local copy of mediawiki
installed.

By default, web apps should be disabled. A similar potentially harmful
global alias was removed from gallery2 earlier this year in #344220.

Thanks

Bug#399756: RFP: wordpress-mu -- framework for hosting large numbers of wordpress weblogs

2006-11-22 Thread Matthew Carroll
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

> Could you care to list the "number of features of wordpress mu that
> make it quite distinct"?

Sure :-)

When it comes to the actual blogging, it is basically the same software.
What MU offers is more architectural - it is specifically designed for
hosting operations who want to run lots of blogs on the same instance:

1. It streamlines the process for adding new blogs to an install. No
server-side access is required, since new blogs are added to the same
database (as a new set of tables).

2. Consequently, it is possible to allow end-users to create their own
blog as a subdomain, e.g., myblog.example.com, or subdirectory
example.com/myblog, with pre-defined settings, using a simple sign-up
form. This makes it possible to scale to thousands of blogs, with almost
no effort to the server administrator beyond initially configuring
wordpress MU.

3. It allows for better separation between different blogs being hosted
on the same server - you can choose which themes are available to each
blog, have default sets of themes users can choose between, etc.

There's more no doubt, but I only just started playing with Wordpress MU
and my first thought was "this looks great, there should be a .deb" :-)

Thanks

Bug#397968: iptables: comments broken

2006-11-10 Thread Matthew Carroll
Package: iptables

Using the --comment option results in an error, e.g.:

At first I thought I must be making a mistake in the syntax, but the above

in the iptables -L output.

Bug#312966: iptables man page: fix mport description

2006-11-06 Thread Matthew Carroll
Greetings.

The problem with the iptables man page has not been resolved. I stumbled
across this bug after reading the man page and trying to use the mport
option:

# iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m mport --dports http,https,ftp -j proc-out
iptables v1.3.5: Couldn't load match
`mport':/lib/iptables/libipt_mport.so: cannot open shared object file:
No such file or directory

Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information.

Please reopen, and if - as this suggests - mport has been removed
upstream, then please remove the reference to it from the man page.

Thanks
Matthew

Bug#397252: php-pear: pecl install apc fails with apache2

2006-11-05 Thread Matthew Carroll
Package: php-pear
Version: 5.1.6-5

Attempting to install APC using pecl fails due to the presumption that Apache
1.x is being used, and consequently that apxs will be located at /usr/bin/apxs.
Here is the output of 'pecl install apc':

Sorry, I was not able to successfully run APXS. Possible reasons:

1.  Perl is not installed;
2.  Apache was not compiled with DSO support (--enable-module=so);
3. 'apxs' is not in your path. Try to use --with-apxs=/path/to/apxs
The output of apxs follows
/tmp/tmpFENl7q/APC-3.0.12p2/configure: line 3750: apxs: command not found
configure: error: Aborting
ERROR: `/tmp/tmpFENl7q/APC-3.0.12p2/configure --enable-apc-mmap=yes

The only work around I have found is to create a sym-link to trick configure:

ln -s /usr/bin/apxs2 /usr/bin/apxs

...since there is no way to pass "--with-apxs=/usr/bin/apxs2" to configure via
pecl.

Thanks
Matthew

OK, thanks for the clarification Michael :-)

I noticed (with slight concern) apt telling me that my updates were
about to remove over 60 MB, which seemed a little unusual. I ended up
unpacking the new .deb locally to check nothing vital was missing before
I found this report and then went ahead with updating our server.

Even though the original issue isn't fixed, I think it would still be
worth a note in the changelogs that the CVS directories have been
removed, substantially reducing the installed size, just to save others
similar concern.

Best wishes

Bug#318351: still present in skippy 0.5.1rc1-4

2006-01-12 Thread Matthew Carroll
- window manager is Gnome 2.10 (up to date packages from testing)
- it happens when firefox is closed
- it happens when i launch skippy after everything else is open, and if
I launch skippy first.
- i do see the windows flip in the taskbar, but here's a clue:

only windows open in the application that currently has the focus come
to the foreground when the shots of each window are being taken, e.g.
different evolution windows / different nautilus windows. While the
focus appears to go to other apps in the taskbar, the windows are not
coming to the front on the screen. Then when the overview is displayed,
only the images of those windows that came to the front during flipping
are correct, the others display an image of whatever was above those
windows.

i've also tried it with completely different applications running, and
it still happens. i'll send you some more screen shots to demonstrate
clearly what i'm describing above.

i hope that helps - let me know if you want me to try anything else, or
send you copies of any of my config files - i don't know what might be
of use to you.

best wishes

Unfortunately the bug I'm seeing isn't the refresh issue, but that
skippy isn't grabbing images of the correct windows at all. Instead,
skippy seems to be grabbing an image of the section of the screen above
the window. I will send you a screenshot. This isn't helped by
activating the autoRefresh in ~/.skippyrc as mentioned
in /usr/share/doc/skippy/README.Debian as you suggest.

Bug#335404: RFP: php4-apc -- Caches and optimises PHP scripts to improve performance

2005-10-23 Thread Matthew Carroll
Additional info regarding this RFP:

APC (version 1) was previously a debian package, removed when
development stalled:

http://bugs.debian.org/219571
http://lists.debian.org/debian-qa/2004/01/msg00156.html

There are licencing concerns around the only similar package in Debian,
mmcache, and development has now stopped on that too:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/01/msg00130.html

APC Version 3 seems to be in active development, with support for PHP5.
It would be great if this could be packaged for debian. I am contacting
the current maintainer of mmcache.
