Bug#1033199: blender: Does not run on Wayland: GHOST: failed to initialize display for back-end(s): ['X11']
Package: blender Version: 3.4.1+dfsg-2+b1 Severity: important X-Debbugs-Cc: public.mich...@franzl.name Dear Maintainer, I am attempting to start Blender on Wayland. It immediately stops with the error GHOST: failed to initialize display for back-end(s): ['X11'] However, the same version of Blender starts without issue when downloaded from blender.org . In fact, Wayland is officially supported since 3.4x onward. See https://code.blender.org/2022/10/wayland-support-on-linux/ Perhaps it should be built with the flag WITH_GHOST_WAYLAND if possible? Bug#896083: gdm3: Suspends machine after 20 minutes
Package: gdm3 Version: 3.28.0-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, gdm3's default dconf energy settings suspend the machine after 20 minutes. This is independent of the power settings made by an unprivileged user within a Gnome login session. While this could be forgiven on a locally accessible desktop machine, it also suspends remote/headless machines (e.g. in a data center). Activity on a SSH terminal or VNC connection does not prevent this issue. Having no easy way to re-wake remote machines, this may create highly inconvenient situations for administrators. In addition, unexpected suspension may also have disastrous consequences, depending on the use of the machine. To reproduce, install task-gnome-desktop and wait for 20 minutes on a machine which supports power management. The offending settings can be printed to the console. As superuser: su -s /bin/bash Debian-gdm unset XDG_RUNTIME_DIR dbus-launch gsettings get org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep- inactive-ac-type dbus-launch gsettings get org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep- inactive-ac-timeout This prints 'suspend' and '1200', respectively. For quicker reproduction of the problem, reduce the timeout to 2 minutes: dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep- inactive-ac-timeout 120 Then reboot and wait 2 minutes. To turn off suspension, set: dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep- inactive-ac-type nothing Regards, Michael Franzl -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.15.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages gdm3 depends on: ii accountsservice 0.6.45-1 ii adduser 3.117 ii dconf-cli 0.28.0-2 ii dconf-gsettings-backend 0.28.0-2 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.66 ii gir1.2-gdm-1.03.28.0-1 ii gnome-session [x-session-manager] 3.28.0-2 ii gnome-session-bin 3.28.0-2 ii gnome-settings-daemon 3.28.0-1 ii gnome-shell 3.28.0-1+b1 ii gnome-terminal [x-terminal-emulator] 3.28.0-1 ii gsettings-desktop-schemas 3.28.0-1 ii libaccountsservice0 0.6.45-1 ii libaudit1 1:2.8.2-1 ii libc6 2.27-3 ii libcanberra-gtk3-00.30-6 ii libcanberra0 0.30-6 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-02.36.11-2 ii libgdm1 3.28.0-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.56.1-2 ii libglib2.0-bin2.56.1-2 ii libgtk-3-03.22.29-3 ii libkeyutils1 1.5.9-9.2 ii libpam-modules1.1.8-3.7 ii libpam-runtime1.1.8-3.7 ii libpam-systemd238-4 ii libpam0g 1.1.8-3.7 ii librsvg2-common 2.40.20-2 ii libselinux1 2.7-2+b2 ii libsystemd0 238-4 ii libwrap0 7.6.q-27 ii libx11-6 2:1.6.5-1 ii libxau6 1:1.0.8-1+b2 ii libxcb1 1.13-1 ii libxdmcp6 1:1.1.2-3 ii lsb-base 9.20170808 ii mutter [x-window-manager] 3.28.0-2 ii policykit-1 0.105-20 ii ucf 3.0038 ii x11-common1:7.7+19 ii x11-xserver-utils 7.7+8 Versions of packages gdm3 recommends: ii at-spi2-core2.28.0-1 ii desktop-base9.0.5 ii x11-xkb-utils 7.7+3+b1 ii xserver-xephyr 2:1.19.6-1 ii xserver-xorg1:7.7+19 ii zenity 3.28.1-1 Versions of packages gdm3 suggests: pn gnome-orca pn libpam-fprintd ii libpam-gnome-keyring 3.28.0.2-1 -- debconf information: gdm3/daemon_name: /usr/sbin/gdm3 * shared/default-x-display-manager: gdm3

Bug#769402: ttytter: Submits and retweets \n as literal string
Package: ttytter Version: 2.1.0+1-1 Severity: minor Tags: upstream Twitter.com allows line breaks when composing tweets. When the -newline command line option of TTYtter is not present, these line breaks are displayed as the literal string \n. When the -newline command line option is present, these line breaks are actually conserved, and real line breaks occur in the terminal when the tweet is displayed. So far so good. But independent of the -newline switch, retweeting such a tweet -- or composing a new tweet -- containting the literal string \n, will not transform it back into a real line break. The Twitter.com website and other twitter clients therefore display the literal string \n for such messages sent by TTYtter. It's not a big deal when composing new tweets (because one simply doesn't type \n), but if one wants to /oretweet such a message (containing a line break), the tweet display will be messed up for others. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing-updates APT policy: (500, 'testing-updates'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.16-3-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages ttytter depends on: ii curl 7.38.0-3 ii perl 5.20.1-2 Versions of packages ttytter recommends: ii libterm-readline-gnu-perl 1.24-2+b1 ii libtimedate-perl 2.3000-2 ttytter suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#767173: gnome-shell: Display freezes but mouse stays operational
Ok, I've found out more and now can reproduce the bug reliably every time. How to reproduce this bug: 1. reboot computer 2. start Root Terminal 3. type `gedit` in this root terminal to start it (I guess any other program will do to, but I haven't tested it) 4. click on Activities OR move mouse into the upper left magic corner The display freeze happens exactly at the time of clicking the mouse or arriving at the upper left corner. Killing applications from another TTY will NOT remove their windows from TTY7. /var/log/syslog will now be flooded with the following messages over and over (I have thousands of them in /var/log/syslog): Oct 30 10:45:36 michael-debian gnome-session[1961]: (gnome-shell:2069): dconf-CRITICAL **: unable to create file '/run/user/1000/dconf/user': Permission denied. dconf will not work properly. These bug reports seem to be related: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=956306 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=732209 Marcus, I also experienced the display freeze when right-clicking on the Desktop, but I could recover from these freezes by pressing Alt+F2 and exiting the popup window again. Originally I wanted to reply to bug #675345, but the reportbug tool created a new bug number instead. I'm not even sure the bug is in gnome-shell. I should have filed the bug for the more general package `gnome`. I can right-click on the desktop without problems. I have been running Debian Wheezy with standard Gnome on the same laptop with all the same hardware for over 2 years, and never experienced any freeze. Bug#767173: gnome-shell: Display freezes but mouse stays operational
Package: gnome-shell Version: 3.14.0-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? Using regular Gnome (the default during Jessie installation) for a couple of hours. Minimum time from restart of the computer to freeze was about 30 minutes. Maximum time was about 24 hours. I experienced this freeze about 5 times now. Running programs were chromium, icedove, standard terminals, nothing fancy. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I can't deduce a pattern of what I did. It is hard to tell if the freeze happens at the exact moment of clicking with the mouse, or in between clicks. The freeze happens even when not using the keyboard. * What was the outcome of this action? TTY 1-6 are still operational, TTY7 stays frozen. Mouse cursor can be moved, but no windows respond to clicking or typing. Killing gnome-shell would only remove window borders but would not restore interactivity. Restarting service gdm3 would get me back to the login screen, but after logging in, the screen stays black. A full restart of the computer brings the system back to operational. More infos: Running Xfce was stable for over one week, so it seems to be Gnome related. Gnome reports Intel Sandybridge Mobile as graphics card. I have an Asus laptop with NVIDIA Geforce GT540M chip. Bug#764899: libmagickcore-6.q16-dev: Magick-config is missing
I can confirm this bug report. The repercussions: Ruby developers won't be able to install/compile any version of the rmagick gem other than the one included with jessie as Debian package ruby-rmagick. However, many Ruby developers use rvm to have an isolated Ruby environment. In this environment, the installation/compilation of any rmagick version will fail because of the missing Magick-config binary. Bug#764899: libmagickcore-6.q16-dev: Magick-config is missing
On Thu, 16 Oct 2014 15:46:28 +0200 Vincent Fourmond fourm...@debian.org wrote: This is indeed a pain. We moved away from Magick-config now that ImageMagick is pkg-config ready. Maybe we can still provide Magick-config, but not in a standard place (such as /usr/lib/ImageMagick or something), so that only very minor modifications to RMagick would be necessary ? I'm unsure we want to put it back. Any changes to the old/historical locations would have to be reported to the maintainers of the rmagick Ruby Gem (see rubygems.org). In their extconf.rb script, they do detection of the various operating systems and respective locations of headers etc. Without the rmagick gem supporting the new Debian Jessie locations, compilation of the native Ruby extension during `gem install rmagick` will always fail. This is a bit frustrating because this issue makes Jessie unusable for development of many Ruby applications. In any event, I've found out that the package graphicsmagick-libmagick-dev-compat actually just creates symlinks. One of them is a symlink from Magick-config - GraphicsMagick-config So, I created this symlink manually, and then ran `gem install rmagick` again. Magick-config is now found, but the problems don't stop there. The next issue is that wand/MagickWand.h cannot be found. Inspecting extconf.rb of the rmagick gem and having the interactive Ruby Console irb, I could find the issue. `have_header` returns `false`: irb(main):001:0 require 'mkmf' = true irb(main):002:0 have_header wand/MagickWand.h checking for wand/MagickWand.h... no = false I don't have enough expertise in Ruby's mkmf to find out why this is. There is a MagickWand.h in /usr/include/ImageMagick-6/wand/ Maybe input can be gotten from the Debian Ruby team?
