Bug#1059545: webext-ublock-origin-firefox: I get YouTube ads when Private Browsing

Package: webext-ublock-origin-firefox
Version: 1.46.0+dfsg-1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: konoh...@yahoo.com

Hi,
Lately I've been getting YouTube ads when I play videos on private windows.
This among other YouTube bugs (slow loading and such) have been fixed for
testing and unstable. If they can be backported it would be great.

(can be reproduced on a VM with defaults)

Probably yes: https://github.com/darkreader/darkreader/issues/11943
But Firefox should also not allow an extension to bring it to its
knees like this.

Bug#1056616: Firefox 120 tabs are freezing

2023-11-25 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Hi,

Just to add that in version 120, the tabs are freezing (somewhat
randomly, perhaps; I couldn't identify a pattern).

Even pressing F5 doesn't reload the pages; it's necessary to close the
tab and open it again.

This issue doesn't exist in version 119.

Bug#1041893: linux-config: Enable CONFIG_IONIC

2023-07-24 Thread Shannon Nelson

Package: linux-config
Version: 6.1_6.1.37

The ionic network driver has been in the upstream kernel since v5.4, but
it is not enabled in the Debian distribution. We have some customers
that want to use the inbox driver in the Debian distribution, but the
kernel has been built without it being enabled:

$ grep IONIC config*
config.amd64_none_amd64:# CONFIG_IONIC is not set
config.amd64_none_cloud-amd64:# CONFIG_IONIC is not set
Following other distributions, such as Red Hat and Ubuntu, please enable
the driver with

CONFIG_IONIC=m

and only happens with that one, the rest of the VirtualBox packages were

A simple experiment would be to download the same package from another

Bug#1022260: caddy: Leaves user, group, directories behind even after purge

2022-10-22 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: caddy
Version: 2.4.6-2
Severity: minor
X-Debbugs-Cc: nao...@gmail.com

Even after purging caddy it leaves:

- /var/lib/caddy with data
- an empty /var/log/caddy
- a 'caddy' user (in /etc/passwd)
- a 'caddy' group (in /etc/group)

I guess that such things should also be removed if we purge the package.

Thank you!

Best rergards,
Nelson

Bug#1013145: reportbug.debian.org smtphost (or other internal part/process) seems to be discard bug reports

2022-06-17 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: bugs.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi!

I'm not sure if this should be reported against reportbug.debian.org,
but somewhere it seems to be discarding valid bug reports (maybe
marking it as spam and/or silently discarding it?)
For example, today I reported a bug against grub2 twice, using
reportbug and with these settings in ~/.reportbugrc:

=
reportbug_version "11.5.0"
mode advanced
ui text
no-cc
list-cc-me
smtphost reportbug.debian.org
=

But I didn't get anything back (the bug report wasn't created it the
BTS nor did I receive any kind of warning or message).

>From the little that we can see, I understand that it was correctly
sent with reportbug:

=

Report will be sent to Debian Bug Tracking System

Now more recently, I directly sent an email to sub...@bugs.debian.org
and got the bug created (https://bugs.debian.org/1013143)

if indeed some checking is being run when submitting bugs using
reportbug.debian.org as a smarthost, then valid bug reports may be
being discarded.

Bug#1013143: grub2: Very wrong CLI options pt_BR translation

2022-06-17 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Source: grub2
Version: 2.04-20
Severity: normal

Hi!

Could you, please, apply the attached patch to grub?

The current translation is so wrong that it even prevents its correct
use (telling you to press F1 instead of F10, for example)

I guess that it also affects the stable version.

Thank you!

Nelson

Package: firmware-amd-graphics

Dear Maintainer,

Several Thinkpads with the ryzen 3xxx cpu have a certain bug, using the tool
'radeontop' you can check that the Memory Clock is always at 100.00% (draining
battery, etc).

The patch seems to be on it's way (VCN firmware); it would be great if you guys
can keep an eye on this: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1455

This bug is moderate/severe. Hopefully we can get this fix for stable directly
or through backports.
Sorry if I filed this bug in the wrong way or against the wrong package.

Happy holidays!

Bug#995425: linux-image-amd64: kernel BUG at fs/ext4/ext4_extents.h:199! (fast_commit feature)

2021-09-30 Thread Nelson G
Package: linux-image-amd64
Version: 5.10.46-5
Severity: normal

Hello,

There's a bug for the ext4 filesystem, when the fast_commit flag is enabled and
you use fallocate or any other task that allocates space.

You can easily reproduce this bug on a VM or raw hardware by doing the
following:

1° You'll need a drive formatted with ext4 of course.
2° Enable fast_commit in that drive: tune2fs -O fast_commit /dev/yourdrive
3° mount 'yourdrive', and inside 'yourdrive' try the following: fallocate -l
2000MB file

You'll see a similar output in dmesg/jourald:

[ 263.841804] kernel BUG at fs/ext4/ext4_extents.h:199!

Bug#995340: nmap: New upstream version available

2021-09-29 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Source: nmap
Version: 7.91+dfsg1+really7.80+dfsg1-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

I know there was an issue with the license on the last release, but
https://nmap.org/npsl/ says that:

To ease the transition to the NPSL, the first three Nmap releases made
under that license (Nmap 7.90, 7.91, and 7.92) may also be used under
the previous Nmap license terms by anyone who prefers those

"previous Nmap license terms" here is
https://nmap.org/misc/nmap-v7.80-license.txt

If possible, could nmap be updated, please?

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Bug#993886: f3: Update homepage

2021-09-07 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: f3
Version: 8.0-1
Severity: minor

Hi!

debian/{control,README.Debian} are using an outdated upstream homepage
(http://oss.digirati.com.br/f3 instead
https://fight-flash-fraud.readthedocs.io/en/stable/)

They should be updated, when possible.

(see at https://github.com/AltraMayor/f3/issues/171 that upstream
considers https://fight-flash-fraud.readthedocs.io/en/stable/ as the
homepage)

And while at it, I don't know if debian/README.Debian adds any useful
information (and could probably just be removed)

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Bug#992532: xfce4-panel: [Systray] Duplicate icons for a single instance.

2021-08-19 Thread Nelson G
Package: xfce4-panel
Version: 4.16.2-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

Sometimes there's duplicate icons for a single instance of blueman or redshift.
At first I thought this has something to do with blueman because it was the
only case I encountered. But the other day I saw a similar issue with
redshift.

Will attach pictures of the issue.

Have a nice day.

Bug#992222: Upstream issue

2021-08-15 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
See also https://github.com/fenrus75/powertop/issues/38

Running "powertop --auto-tune" doesn't seem to be suitable to run
automatically, especially when dealing with various types of hardware.

Bug#992222: powertop: Should not automatically run when upgrading

2021-08-15 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: powertop
Version: 2.13-1
Severity: important

Hi!

Today while upgrading powertop from 2.11-1 to 2.13-1 my mouse simply
stopped, because powertop was run at the upgrade process.

===
(…)
Configurando powertop (2.13-1) ...
Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/powertop.service →
/lib/systemd/system/powertop.service.
(…)
===

Running "systemctl status powertop" I can see that in fact it did run:

===
● powertop.service - Powertop tunings

ago 16 00:39:46 spades systemd[1]: powertop.service: Succeeded.
ago 16 00:39:46 spades systemd[1]: Finished Powertop tunings.
===

And running "powertop" I can see that *everything* was enabled.

My mouse has issues¹ with powertop and I guess that some other people
might also have problematic hardware.

¹ if I enable "Autosuspend for USB device USB Optical Mouse [Logitech]"
(which was just automatically enabled by powertop), my mouse turns off.

Unless every tunable option is known to be safe, powertop shouldn't be
automatically enabled/run.

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Bug#971734: webext-ublock-origin-firefox: after startup, doesn't work until disabled and reenabled

Package: webext-ublock-origin-firefox
Version: 1.33.0+dfsg-1
Followup-For: Bug #971734
X-Debbugs-Cc: ledu...@hotmail.com

I have a similar issue. But it seems to affect YouTube only.

See, I have firefox-esr configured to launch and restore the previous session.
The example would be a single YouTube tab, with a video. It get's restored,
but, ads will get reproduced, if autoplay is enabled of course. If autoplay is
disabled, the ad will sit there waiting to be reproduced, so you can skip it,
and it redirects you to your video, how it would be without uBlock. Except that
uBlock is enabled.
This get's corrected with a simple tab reload (F5).
If the tab is YouTube's homepage (no video), you can catch the first
recommended video to be an ad, but it will go away in a instant without having
to reload the tab.

I have the defaults on everything (except for pocket disabled), I haven't
touched much my about:config (i can share my user.js, but IME it can be
reproduced with the defaults of a fresh install).
uBlock rules are also up to date.

My other extensions are privacy-badger and https-everywhere.
I already tried disabling everything but uBlock, and it's still the same.
If not clear enough I can try recording my screen in a short and lightweight
clip.

Dear Maintainer,

I will attach an image which will be the best explanation to:
When hovering over the qBittorrent status icon the text displayed is all messed
up.

qBittorrent's messed up text is persistent. It always looks like the picture
attached.
But I am sure I saw the other day, an icon that said something like
'foo'. I will try to reproduce it with other status icons, and report
it if I catch anything new.

Sorry for this weak English. Or if this is not related to xfce4's systray but
rather to Qt/qBittorrent/qt5ct/etc.

Bug#990703: webext-browserpass: Unable to fetch and parse login fields [pinentry]

2021-07-05 Thread nelson g
Package: webext-browserpass
Version: 3.7.2-1+b3
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: ledu...@hotmail.com

Hello,
I'm currently using Xfce4, and found this extension wasn't asking for my
passphrase at all, thus my passwords were not available, unless decrypted first
from the terminal (pinentry-ncurses I presume?)

I tried several things but the thing that worked was:
Install pinentry-qt
created ~/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf
added the following line to ~/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf: pinentry-program
/usr/bin/pinentry-qt
restarted gpg-agent with: gpg-connect-agent reloadagent /bye

The result was a dialog/application asking for the passphrase. And the
extension working correctly after typing the correct passphrase.

Is it possible to investigate why the same can't be accomplished for both
pinentry-gnome3 and pinentry-gtk2, since I'm using Xfce4 and not LxQT or
Plasma? Not to mention pinentry-qt is not even a dependency for this web
extension.
Is having to create gpg-agent.conf expected behavior? if it is, can we have
documentation on this?

Sorry if this is not a bug related to this package.
Thanks.

Bug#989621: texlive-latex-extra: incompatible regexpatch.sty version

2021-06-08 Thread Nelson
Package: texlive-latex-extra
Version: 2018.20190227-2
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

The latest LaTeX executables (included in texlive-latex-base 2020.20210202-3)
removed some previously deprecated macros. The regexpatch package included in
texlive-latex-extra 2020.20210202-3 is too old and, therefore, fails with this
version of LaTeX. The current version of the package, available at ctan, fixes
this problem. A simple test document:

-
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{regexpatch}

\def\mycommand{hello}

\xpatchcmd{\mycommand}{hello}{goodbye}{}{}

\begin{document}\mycommand\end{document}
-

Thanks!

-- Package-specific info:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We will only consider bug reports concerning
the packaging of TeX Live as relevant. If you have problems with
combination of packages in a LaTeX document, please consult your
local TeX User Group, the comp.text.tex user group, the author of
the original .sty file, or any other help resource.

In particular, bugs that are related to up-upstream, i.e., neither
Debian nor TeX Live (upstream), but the original package authors,
will be closed immediately.

*** The Debian TeX Team is *not* a LaTeX Help Desk ***

If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report.

Please run your example with
(pdf)latex -recorder ...
(or any other program that supports -recorder) and send us the generated
file with the extension .fls, it lists all the files loaded during
the run and can easily explain problems induced by outdated files in
your home directory.

Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are
needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

Bug#986364: cupt: Should Recommends

2021-04-04 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: cupt
Version: 2.10.4+nmu1+b1
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

cupt should probably
Recommends: libcupt4-2-downloadmethod-curl | libcupt4-2-downloadmethod-wget

This info is already explained in the package's description:

Cupt has built-in support for APT repositories using the file:// or copy://
URL schemas. For access to remote repositories using HTTP or FTP, install a
 download method such as libcupt4-2-downloadmethod-curl.

Downloading from FTP/HTTP(S) is probably what most of the users need or
will use and recommending libcupt4-2-downloadmethod-* seems to make
sense.

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

But we could have TEMPFILE replaced by it's proper value:

Bug#985566: release 1:0.4.28-3 breaks Gimp

2021-03-20 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Source: gegl
Version: 1:0.4.28-3
Severity: important

Hi!

Whatever happened on version 1:0.4.28-3 broke Gimp:

=
GEGL operation missing!

GIMP requires the GEGL operation "gegl:introspect".
This operation cannot be found. Check your
GEGL install and ensure it has been compiled
with any dependencies required for GIMP.
=

Downgrading to 1:0.4.26-2 it's possible to run Gimp again.

Thanks!

Best regards,
Nelson

I just redid the tests to make sure:

Rebooted with the newest version installed, opened Chromium and got italic.
Downgraded, rebooted, Chromium again, no issues.
Upgraded, rebooted, Chromium and italic again.

Not every page is displayed in italic.

If there is anything else that I could testo/do to help just let me know.

Bug#973328: fonts-noto-unhinted: Enhances declared on obsolete package

2020-10-28 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: fonts-noto-unhinted
Version: 20201027-2
Severity: minor

Hi!

fonts-noto-unhinted is declaring an Enhances on fonts-noto-hinted, but
fonts-noto-hinted description says:

=
Description-en: obsolete metapackage to pull in a subset of Noto fonts
 This is an obsolete metapackage
to install a subset of Noto fonts.
 .
 NB! This package is obsolete.
Please use appropriate other fonts-noto-* packages instead.
=

The Enhances should probably be updated to the proper package (fonts-noto-core
and/or fonts-noto-ui-core)

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Hi!

After upgrading fonts-noto-unhinted from 20200323-1 to 20201027-2 to,
some pages are now displayed all in italic in Firefox, Chromium and

Downgrading to 20200323-1 fixes this issue.

Is there anything that I can do to help in debugging this, please?

Bug#962755: exif: FTBFS on s390x: test failure

2020-06-13 Thread Nelson H. F. Beebe
Boyuan Yang reports on Sat, Jun 13, 2020 at

>> The new upload of exif/0.6.22-1 FTBFS on s390x architecture due to test
>> failure:

As an independent check of a new S/390 VM running Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
using QEMU 4.2.0 on a physical machine running Ubuntu 20.04, I pulled
down from

https://sourceforge.net/projects/exiftool/

the Image-ExifTool-12.00.tar.gz file, and followed its README
file to build, test, and install it on my S/390 VM: it reported

All tests successful.
Files=99, Tests=542, 511 wallclock secs ( 5.29 usr 3.08 sys + \
  461.82 cusr 42.11 csys = 512.30 CPU)
Result: PASS

That is not the same version of exiftool that Boyuan reported, but
there was no URL for his version. I someone cares to send me a
suitable source URL off list, I'll do another build with it on my new
S/390 VM.

Bug#843982: Still having this issue

2020-05-11 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Hi!

Today after upgrading from 4.40-2 to 4.48-1 I had this issue one more
time (where I was unable to open any terminal; message was "urxvt:
unable to load base fontset, please specify a valid one using -fn,
aborting.")

I had to manually run "xset fp rehash" again.

Now I am unsure if "xset fp rehash" needs to be called in some other
step while upgrading/installing xfonts-terminus or if there is another
kind of issue somewhere else.

Thank you!

Bug#948461: debdelta: Retry connection after unexpected connection closing

2020-01-08 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: debdelta
Version: 0.65
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

Sometimes I see this:

=
# debdelta-upgrade
Created,time 0.26sec, speed 221kB/sec,
binutils_2.33.50.20200107-1_amd64.deb
(...)
Created,time 0.29sec, speed 133kB/sec, libglx0_1.3.0-7_i386.deb
debdelta-upgrade : Remote end closed connection without response
=

Maybe debdelta could automatically retry to reconnect (and continue the
upgrade) after a short period, after receiving an unexpected connection
close like this.

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Bug#947389: debdelta: Still refers to 'python-poster' when using --forensic=http

2019-12-25 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: debdelta
Version: 0.65
Severity: minor

Hi!

In 0.64's changelog it says:

   * python-poster is not used anymore (Closes: 700969)

But when using "--forensic=http" we still see this:

=
# debdelta-upgrade --forensic=http
To use the http forensic, you must install the package "python-poster".
=

It seems that the code needs to be updated then.

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Bug#931421: arp-scan: Still distributing and using internal oui.txt and iab.txt files

2019-07-04 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
close #931421
thanks

Ah... now I see that get-iab/get-oui are actually processing the files
from ieee-data.
I am sorry for the confusion here.

Bug#931421: arp-scan: Still distributing and using internal oui.txt and iab.txt files

2019-07-04 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: arp-scan
Version: 1.9.5-1
Severity: normal

Hi!

It seems that #481296 and #739200 aren't really fixed.

While arp-scan now depends on ieee-data, it is still including and
distributing the following files:

/usr/share/arp-scan/ieee-iab.txt
/usr/share/arp-scan/ieee-oui.txt
/usr/share/arp-scan/mac-vendor.txt

If it depends on ieee-data then there is no need to also have these
files (nor have /usr/sbin/get-iab and /usr/sbin/get-oui).

Also, arp-scan isn't using the shared files.

If we renamed the /usr/share/arp-scan/*txt files, arp-scan won't use the
shared files from /usr/share/ieee-data/:

=
# arp-scan -l

Thank you!

Bug#922432: httping: Selecting a port number doesn't work

2019-02-15 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: httping
Version: 2.5-5
Severity: normal

Hi!

httping's manual says:

=
   -p portnumber
-p can be used together with -h. -p selects the portnumber to
  probe.
=

But it doesn't seem to be working:

=
$ httping -p 443 josm.openstreetmap.de
PING josm.openstreetmap.de:80 (/):
connected to 95.216.72.248:80 (253 bytes), seq=0 time=522,23 ms
=

See that it's still using port 80

"httping --help" also says:

=
-p x / --portportnumber (e.g. 80) - use with -h
=

But testing with -h I don't see any difference:

=
$ httping -p 443 -h josm.openstreetmap.de
PING josm.openstreetmap.de:80 (/):
connected to 95.216.72.248:80 (253 bytes), seq=0 time=533,90 ms
=

So either I did completely misunderstand the portnumber option or it's
really not working as expected.

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Maybe it should be automatically restarted on postinst? (or some other
kind of similar solution)

It's a regular testing system, but yeah, partially updated. Maybe it's a
bad habit nowadays, but I got in the habit years ago, when I had a
slower internet connection, of updating software in aptitude
individually, which I also like because it lets me keep tabs on what's
pulling in what.

Usually this works fine, because if software needs a newer version of a
library it bumps the >= in the dependency, but in this case the
unversioned depends on libxapian30 meant the upgrade didn't get pulled
in. I see the point about complicating backports though, especially if
xapian's upstream isn't carefully versioning its symbols.

Bug#907732: maildir-utils: May need versioned depend on libxapian30

2018-08-31 Thread Mark J. Nelson
Package: maildir-utils
Version: 1.0-6
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading maildir-utils from 1.0-5 to 1.0-6, some 'mu' commands stopped
working with the following error message:

mu: symbol lookup error: mu: undefined symbol: _ZN6Xapian4MSetaSEOS0_

Since I suspected this was some kind of mu/xapian version mismatch error, I
upgraded libxapian30 from 1.4.5-1 to 1.4.7-2, which fixed the issue. Therefore
I suspect that a more narrowly
versioned depends is necessary.

Do something else needs to be updated/bin-nmued?
Is it a problem in i965-va-driver or in another package?

Thank you very much!

Bug#870302: pavucontrol: High CPU usage

2017-07-31 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: pavucontrol
Version: 3.0-3.1
Severity: normal

Hi!

I saw that pavucontrol uses about 2.4% ~ 3.3% of CPU without doing
anything (when nothing is playing a sound in the computer).

Trying to see what is happening with strace there is a lot (really a
lot) of polling:

=
read(12, "\1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8) = 8
getpid()= 23673
getpid()= 23673
getpid()= 23673

write(10, "\1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8)= 8

poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=5, events=POLLIN},
{fd=11, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN}], 5, 19980) = 1 ([{fd=12,
revents=POLLIN}])
read(12, "\1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8) = 8
getpid()= 23673
getpid()= 23673

unavailable)
poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=5, events=POLLIN},
{fd=11, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN}], 5, 0) = 0 (Timeout)
recvmsg(3, {msg_namelen=0}, 0) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily

poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=5, events=POLLIN},
{fd=11, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN}], 5, 0) = 0 (Timeout)
poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN|POLLOUT}], 1, -1) = 1 ([{fd=3, revents=POLLOUT}])
writev(3,
[{iov_base="5\30\4\0sE\300\1\3\0\300\1\223\3\n\0\213\4\6\0tE\300\1sE\300\1*\0\0\0"...,

recvmsg(3, {msg_namelen=0}, 0) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily

poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=5, events=POLLIN},
{fd=11, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN}], 5, 2) = 1 ([{fd=12,
revents=POLLIN}])
(...)
=

Maybe this could somehow be improved?
Wasting CPU for polling like this doesn't seem so right.

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

2017-07-25 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira

Hi!

If /etc/init.d/console-setup.sh and /etc/init.d/keyboard-setup.sh really
need to end in .sh, then it's necessary to update the usage message
inside them.

In /etc/init.d/console-setup.sh we can see:
