Bug#949256: linux-image-5.4.0-2-amd64: zram-tools blocks shutdown (regression since 5.2)

2020-01-18 Thread Nick Shaforostoff
Package: src:linux
Version: 5.4.8-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After I did apt-get dist-upgrade which led to installing kernel 5.4,
i noticed that shutdown of my laptop started to take forever,
with the messages you can see on the following photos

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/18CTuZTs49j2X2vMGMqA-P9czLjMKDNHX?usp=sharing

either removing zram-tools package or using linux-image-5.2.0-3-amd64 @
5.2.17-1
which I had before the dist-upgrade makes the problem go away.

Since 5.4 changelog mentions zram, I suspect that it was the kernel
that introduced this regression.

Bug#913491: libkf5config-dev: wrong cmake reference to kconfig_compiler_kf5

2018-11-11 Thread Nick Shaforostoff
Package: libkf5config-dev
Version: 5.51.0-1
Severity: normal

Hi! I was trying to build the latest git master of subtitlecomposer
issued 'cmake ..' and got the following message:

CMake Error at
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/KF5Config/KF5ConfigCompilerTargets.cmake:83
(message):
The imported target "KF5::kconfig_compiler" references the file

 "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kf5/kconfig_compiler_kf5"

but this file does not exist. Possible reasons include:

  * The file was deleted, renamed, or moved to another location.

  * An install or uninstall procedure did not complete successfully.

  * The installation package was faulty and contained

 "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/KF5Config/KF5ConfigCompilerTargets.cmake"

but not all the files it references.

Call Stack (most recent call first):
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/KF5Config/KF5ConfigConfig.cmake:52 (include)
  /usr/share/ECM/find-modules/FindKF5.cmake:74 (find_package)
  CMakeLists.txt:31 (find_package)

a workaround for me was:
sudo cp
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/KF5Config/KF5ConfigCompilerTargets-debian.cmake
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/KF5Config/KF5ConfigCompilerTargets-noconfig.cmake

but it would be nice if it worked out of the box

thank you!

Bug#699940: please include plasma applet and dataengine into qstardict package

2013-02-06 Thread Nick Shaforostoff
Package: qstardict
Version: 0.12.9-1.1

Please include a plasma interface to stardict dictionaries.

to get it built you need to enter the folder of official qstardict sources (btw
there is a newer version available 1.0.1), then:
cd kdeplasma
mkdir build
cd build
cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr
make
make install

the following files need to be added to the package:

/usr/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_qstardict.so
/usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-qstardict-default.desktop
/usr/lib/kde4/plasma_engine_qstardict.so
/usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-dataengine-qstardict.desktop

there is no need to add a runtime dependency on any plasma-related package
(only build-time)
If one doesn't have KDE installed (which actually should not be the case --
because GTK-lovers would install pure stardict instead), then the libraries
just won't be picked up by anything. they are separate from the main qstardict
application.
but if KDE is present, then a good behaviour would be to run 'kbuildsycoca4' as
a post-install step.

The main advantage of the applet over a separate application is that although
it is always 'running', it unloads all the dictionaries after being unused for
several seconds. This way it creates no additional memory load (which could be
tens of megabytes) and hence may be enabled all the time.

Saving RAM is important e.g. for netbook users.

Lokalize is a computer-aided translation system that focuses on productivity
and quality assurance. It has components usual for CAT tools: translation
memory, glossary, and also a unique translation merging (synchronization)
capability. It is primarily targeted for software translation and also
integrates external conversion tools for freelance office document translation.

Please add python-kde4 to recommendations.
Currently it is only needed for enabling 'widget text capture' feature (VERY
useful for KDE translators),
but In future (starting with KDE 4.3) more and more features will be provided
via python scripts,

openoffice.org-l10n-uk says i'll get Ukrainian spellcheck if I install

 Why do you think that?

 r...@mini:~$ rmadison myspell-uk
 myspell-uk | 1.1-1 | etch-m68k | all
 myspell-uk | 1.1-1 | oldstable | all
 myspell-uk |1.5.0-1 |stable | all
 myspell-uk |1.5.7-1 | testing | all
 myspell-uk |1.5.7-1 | unstable | all

 Still there.
I know. I installed it and also myspell-fr but got no uk/fr spellcheck in
openoffice
(i rebooted my system after installing dicts to be sure).
i still had icons only near russian and en-us in format-symbols-language list.
I installed openoffice.org-l10n-uk (I actually use ru_RU.UTF-8 locale and
openoffice.org-l10n-ru) but that didn't help.

can you please do the same on your system and check whether it will work for
you?
(this has to be done with ooo 3.0 and not with 2.4, obviously)

for this i had to go to
  http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/dict-uk_UA
 Who says that?
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries

No. It would not. because what with mozilla etc. which use *exactly* the same
 dict?
 Right, they won't work.
I don't suggest removing myspell-*, I just say that they don't work for ooo3.

  Architecture: i386
  Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-1-mepis-smp

Yay. Mepis. Maybe they broke it the normal install way with myspell-*?
We specify the correct paths to the dict in Debian on the build so it gets
 found there.
How can I check this?
myspell-* and openoffice.org* are installed from vanilla debian repository
(sid).
I believe that the only non-vanilla-debian thing in my system
(which runs for over a year now, and I regularly upgrade from debian
sid/experimental)
is the kernel. I even removed mepis config tools cause they conflicted with
debian's new ooo.

when moving uk.* to uk_UA.dic it works.

Bug#436151: i18n: for ru_UA, automatically setup keyboard layout with en/ru persistent and ua as additional (.xkb_config attached)

2007-08-05 Thread Nick Shaforostoff
Package: debian-installer
Severity: wishlist

It is common that people in Ukraine speak Russian all the time,
but need to write documents in ukrainian (seldom).

I suggest that, if user chooses ru_UA locale during installation,
debian-installer setup appropriate keyboard layout.
(you may narrow conditions to only i386/x64 if you want)

what it should do: add the following line to /etc/X11/Xsession:
/usr/bin/xkbcomp /usr/share/X11/xkb/ru_ua_xkb_config $DISPLAY

you may download ru_ua_xkb_config from the following link:
http://youonlylivetwice.info/.xkb_config

Details:

Ukrainian alphabet differs from the Russian one only in 3 letters.
So my layout has 2 basic groups en+ru(winkeys), user switches between them with
ctrl+left_shift, plus third one, user switches to it temporarily by
pressing right_alt.

It is very convenient because it is hard to switch between 3 equal
layouts all the time.

Also, there is a bug in XOrg that prevents shortcuts like ctrl+shift+z
be propagated to the apps if ctrl+shift is used for switching.
still, it is the most common setup because people get used to it on
windowz. my config does the switch only when left shift is used, so
ctrl+right_shift+z works as expected.

As a bonus people will get other unicode characters in third layut
(french quotes, section sign, degree sign, (c) and many others)

Of course, I could make a howto instead, but...
I think that computers should ease life of people, and automate things
where possible.

If you gonna accept my suggestion, I will make keyboard picture, like
this one:
http://regolit.com/images/typography-layout.gif
and write any documentation that you request on my layout

Bug#293596: #293596 wget russian manpage

2007-07-11 Thread Nick Shaforostoff
On Среда 11 июля 2007, Noèl Köthe wrote:
afaik there are no manpage translation of wget.

I will ask the upstream author how they would like to get translations.

Already tried to do that. It seems they require physical letter from me.
But it is a nonsense: how come my KDE translations get into upstream and
distributions w/o any letters?

I attach updated translation of manpage in the hope that it will be included in
Debian.

It is already included in my local distro, ALTLinux (uses apt-rpm, btw) but i
don't want to switch to it because Debian is great.

Bug#413736: usb: no configuration chosen from 1 choice

2007-03-06 Thread Nick Shaforostoff
Package: linux-2.6
Severity: important

kernels beginning with 2.6.16 have typo in their sources, wich causes
usb modem detecion to fail. kern.log says:
usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
usb 3-1: no configuration chosen from 1 choice

the solution is to replace
#ifndef CONFIG_USB_NET_RNDIS_HOST
with
#ifndef CONFIG_USB_NET_RNDIS_HOST_MODULE
in drivers/usb/core/hub.c -- for 2.6.18
or in drivers/usb/core/generic.c -- for 2.6.20.x

i hope that etch wont be shipped with this silly error aint fixed
thanks you in advance!

Bug#413568: linux-2.6: usb 3-1: no configuration chosen from 1 choice

2007-03-05 Thread Nick Shaforostoff
Package: linux-2.6
Severity: important

after upgrading from 2.6.15 (mepis) to 2.6.20.1 (vanilla, but the bug was
introduced earlier)
i got problem with my usb modem (terayon). kern.log said:
usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
usb 3-1: no configuration chosen from 1 choice

my solution was to
replace
#ifndef CONFIG_USB_NET_RNDIS_HOST
with
#ifndef CONFIG_USB_NET_RNDIS_HOST_MODULE
in drivers/usb/core/generic.c
note, that this is for 2.6.20.1 kernel, in 2.6.18 the filename may
differ.

~/linux-2.6.18.8$ rgrep 'define CONFIG_USB_NET_RNDIS_HOST' *
include/linux/autoconf.h:#define CONFIG_USB_NET_RNDIS_HOST_MODULE 1

CONFIG_USB_NET_RNDIS_HOST cant be defined under any circumstances, while
CONFIG_USB_NET_RNDIS_HOST_MODULE can.
so PLEASE, reopen the bug, because, as i said, it was introduced BEFORE
2.6.20.1, namely in 2.6.16

i already reported this bug to linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org (it was specified
in REPORTING-BUGS file)

and btw the file containing the bug is
drivers/usb/core/hub.c:#ifndef CONFIG_USB_NET_RNDIS_HOST

Bug#303096: docs in three formats

2005-04-04 Thread Nick Shaforostoff
Package: gwenview
Version: 1.1.8+1.2.0pre2-1

ok, we have here original docbooks, cache (which is used randomly) and
good old html :-)

(as i suppose it is to ensure that user w/ 200gb harddrive will be able to RTFM)

 'dpkg --listfiles gwenview':

...
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/kde
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/index.html
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/index.docbook
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/interface.html
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/mouse.docbook
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/introduction.docbook
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/introduction.html
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/docked_windows.html
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/mouse.html
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/interface.docbook
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/keybindings.docbook
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/keybindings.html
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/tips.html
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/browse_mode.png
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/view_mode.png
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/dock_grip.png
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/docked_windows.docbook
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/gwenview/index.cache.bz2
...

i suggest adding to package pngs converted to jpegs,
djvu and grayscale for those many users w/ black-n-white displays
