Bug#680095: iceweasel: Iceweasel consumes 50-80% cpu when idling
Package: iceweasel Followup-For: Bug #680095 Dear Maintainer, I have good news : after software updates, restarts, reboots, release and so the problem was still there and amplifying with hibernate-resume cycles ; but thanks to LWN.net I read a comment that pointed to Firebug ; I disabled Firebug and restarted iceweasel and Yeah! now iceweasel is very low on the CPU radar. Issue gone for me :-) I suggest reaffecting the bug to Firebug. Bug#712093: marionnet: bus address error on start and 3 popups
Package: marionnet Version: 0.90.6+bzr407-1 Followup-For: Bug #712093 Hello, thanks for being so responsive. I hadn't done anything as root. So no the daemon was not spawned as root. Now I keyed marionnet-daemon in a root console. I got the welcome to marionnet stanza with the above and under. It seems the daemon is happy to be spawned by root in a root console. No error message from the daemon this time. Unfortunately the regular user under X could still not launch marionnet without warning popups. And the terminal window shows : === Welcome to marionnet Version : trunk Source revision : - Ocamlbricks revision : 356 - Built in date 2013-03-29 16:12:20 +0100 on system: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.39-2 x86_64 GNU/Linux For bug reporting, please get a launchpad account and either: - report bugs at https://bugs.launchpad.net/marionnet or do *all* the following: - add yourself to the marionnet-dev team - add yourself to the marionnet-dev mailing list - write to marionnet-...@lists.launchpad.net === ** (marionnet:8775): WARNING **: Error retrieving accessibility bus address: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.a11y.Bus was not provided by any .service files After closing the popups and the splash screen I initiated a project. That seemed to work. Then I wanted to add a host and it didn't work : I right-clicked on "Machine" and selected "add". The terminal window got : In callback for signal activate, uncaught exception: Failure("File \"gui/gui_bricks.ml\", line 431, characters 15-29") Raised at file "pervasives.ml", line 22, characters 22-33 Called from file "gui/gui_bricks.ml", line 431, characters 15-78 Called from file "machine.ml", line 305, characters 6-144 Called from file "machine.ml", line 80, characters 6-87 Called from file "gui/menu_factory.ml", line 141, characters 18-29 I can't tell if this is related to the previous messages and popups. May be it should have been reported as another bug report, may be solving the first solves all ? Anyway. BTW I'd like to give more personal feedback : If this software is somewhat "multipart" (gui, daemon, bus, lib, whatever) I'd like the gui to give user friendly messages when starting. Like : "marionnet could not connect to its 'daemon' server. Have you started it ? To start it do this that..." Even better the gui could launch the daemon without bothering the user. I'd like to use (well... try) marionnet without requiring "to call" root to do things. I've just tried that I can do kvm -cdrom DSL/dsl-4.4.10.iso -boot d -m 32m in a regular user terminal and quickly get a VM running with a working NAT connection. No need for root to do this. Of course I don't know marionnet and it may be another story. (btw 32m means 32 VM fit in 1G ? this is cool) Final piece of personal opinion: I like softs like aptitude and Wireshark that either proactively warn you friendly that not being root limits the features or give you the possibility to 'su root' to get the full features. I hope this is constructive feedback. Wasn't intended to be rude. Bug#712093: marionnet: bus address error on start and 3 popups
Package: marionnet Version: 0.90.6+bzr407-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I saw marionet coming into testing a few days ago and I wanted to give it a try. After installation (with aptitude) I keyed "marionnet" in a terminal. A marionnet main window appeared and child pop ups with it. In the terminal I see : ** (marionnet:710): WARNING **: Error retrieving accessibility bus address: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.a11y.Bus was not provided by any .service files I don't understand this warning. One popup says "missing dependancy" (in French) about filesystems. Another syays "no connection to daemon" (Unix.Unix_error(20, "connect", "")); The third says "missing dependancy" about "a default UML kernel for virtual computers". Moreover it is a pain to close the splash screen and the 3 popups because some (unadvertised) order seems required. So first try, not so good. But according to the screencasts it seems I'm only facing some minor installation or configuration issue. I hope this report is usefull enough. Bug#680095: iceweasel: Iceweasel consumes 50-80% cpu when idling
Package: iceweasel Version: 10.0.10esr-1 Followup-For: Bug #680095 Dear Maintainer, Testing user here. I confirm iceweasel's growth of CPU hunger these last months. And even up to some seconds freeze. I don't remember when it begun, may be spring 2012 ? I have 15~20 windows each with 2 to 15 tabs. The iceweasel process takes 60% to 75% CPU (sometimes even more). I mean when I do nothing with it, being elsewhere (xterm, reportbug...) Chromium and Epiphany are OK (with much fewer tabs). When I run (deprecated)iceowl too they compete for CPU. Could it be a problem with their shared XULRUNNER or JSthing or so ? Very few extensions and very few active ones. This CPU consumption is a PAIN : low battery life, high fan noise, unresponsiveness. Thanks for the packaging work, good luck to squash the bugs. P. Bug#665653: RM: iceowl -- ROM; Unmaintained upstream
Package: ftp.debian.org Followup-For: Bug #665653 Hello Debian iceowl Maintainer and folks, I'm a Debian standalone iceowl 1.0 regular user. I like it, it "just works" (GUI, iCal, simple, intuitive). Thank you for having provided (packaged) this usefull tool so far (I use it on a daily basis). I understand there can't be QA if the upstream standalone app is inactive. I need some advice : Q1 : if I don't uninstall it, can I still use it ? should I add some "experimental" line in sources.list to fetch/update it ? (a sample line would help) Q2 : should I switch to another app ? What are the choices ? Here are some features I'd like to keep : -standalone app, -native standard iCal format, -multi calendars, choice of colors, -one time event and repetitive events, -flexible GUI (number of weeks displayed...), -remote calendars, CalDAV client. I'd rather GTK or wx. Thanks in advance for answers and advices. Have fun all with Debian -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#558814: virtaal: Virtaal breaks Xliff inner markup translation
Package: virtaal Version: 0.5.2-1 Severity: normal The problem I've submitted about virtaal is about breaking xliff or inline markup tags. Virtaal doesn't protect this inline markup. Bug#549433: gnote : workaround to enjoy gnote in testing
Package: gnote Severity: normal Hello all, thanks to Debian manual (package management and pinning) I was able to install gnote from unstable under testing without collateral damage. I report the tip here in the hope it will be usefull for other users and testers : 1)Add a line for unstable in your /etc/apt/sources.list copy and modify the one for testing 2)Create a /etc/apt/preferences file with this content : Package: gnote Pin: release a=unstable Pin-Priority: 700 Package: * Pin: release a=testing Pin-Priority: 500 Package: * Pin: release a=unstable Pin-Priority: 200 3)Use aptitude : update, search for gnote, install it. it installs/upgrades somewhat 5 dependancies. 4)Revert /etc/apt/preferences back to a sane testing state by commenting the unstable line with a # sign. 5)Result : enjoy gnote ; your testing system is almost unchanged and aptitude sees 1 strange package (gnote). Bug#539506: balsa: fails to list the newest messages
Package: balsa Version: 2.3.28-1 Severity: important Hello Debian Balsa maintainers, I have a local MailDir in_box and a (remote) POP3 email account. When I see message(s) listed by the webmail of this account : -I never open the message with the webmail, -I leave it as new on the mail server, -I log out the webmail, -I launch Balsa, -I clic on 'Relever le courrier' (Get new mail), -It seems to POP3-download-get the new messages, -BUT when I clic on in_box the message listing view doesn't list the new message(s). I think it is a view refreshing/indexing problem because if a move/delete old messages then Balsa dares to rescan in_box and discovers the new message(s). Bug#499805: balsa: still regression on displaying [truncated] receivers list
Package: balsa Version: 2.3.28-1 Followup-For: Bug #499805 Hello again, thank you for the 'show all headers' tip. I agree it is a good trade off versus the 'view source' brain parsing. But I still find it a bad regression versus the previous functional view. I think the end user should not have to mentaly hide technical fields to read the receipients of a message in a simple lightweight email reader. Previous Balsa didn't force me to see Message-ID, Received, References... I understand a [truncated] display is needed in case of too much recipients. But is 6 *that* much to build pain ? I'd rather it a parameter (set to 20). I hope this bug report helps to give Balsa end users a better life. Bug#434499: balsa: Workaround found : downgrade gmime2.2 to 2.9
Package: balsa Version: 2.3.17-1 Followup-For: Bug #434499 Hello again, here is Joe User back in the reportbug console tool. I have good news. As suggested by Sven I had a look at this page : http://snapshot.debian.net/package/gmime2.2 So I have added deb http://snapshot.debian.net/archive pool gmime2.2 in my sources, launched aptitude, pressed "u", then searched for "gmime", opened its information page and finally selected its previous 2.9 version at the bottom. Then I have pressed "g" to proceed (with warnings). Magic aptitude has done a good job and Balsa is working again. So I confirm there is a link for me between gmime2.2 2.9 to 2.10 and Balsa for some days in testing. See http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/gmime2.2.html [2007-08-01] gmime2.2 2.2.10-1 MIGRATED to testing (Britney) I wish snapshot were a trusted source to avoid scary warning while downgrading one package. Bug#434499: balsa: Balsa crashes when opening mailboxes or while composing mail
Package: balsa Version: 2.3.17-1 Followup-For: Bug #434499 Hello all, I'm Joe User of Debian Testing and I use Balsa. Balsa has stopped working (it crashes) for some days when opening a mailbox (even an empty one) or while composing a new message. I launch Balsa via an xterm : balsa & I somethimes get : (balsa:3453): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: specified instance size for type `LibBalsaMimeStreamShared' is smaller than the parent type's `GMimeStreamFs' instance size libbalsa_lock_file(): fcntl errno 9. I'm not a DD but here is a suggestion : the first message is about MIME and Balsa has stopped working somewhat at the same time a gMIME update entered testing some days ago. Of course, I may be wrong. I'd like to thank all the DD that have made it possible for Debian Balsa to catch up with upstream Balsa these last months. Bug#351385: balsa: Why not using upstream fixes ?
Package: balsa Version: 2.3.8-3 Followup-For: Bug #351385 Hello, balsa v2.3.8-3 has just entered Etch after the 10 days delay. Cool, balsa is maintained in Debian. But why packaging v2.3.8 instead of v2.3.10 or v2.3.12 ? Shouldn't 2.3.10 have closed at least 2 bugs instead of 1 ? I don't understand. Is 2.3.12 more pain to package than 2.3.8 ? Or is it a dependancy problem ? Bug#365383: xdm has stopped being launched at boot
Package: xdm Version: 1:1.0.1-6 Severity: normal Hello, there was an upgrade of xdm a few days ago and now xdm is no more automatically launched at boot. The bug is reproducible and the following workaround is reproducible too : At the console prompt, I log in in text mode, type "startx", play X, end the X session and log out at the text console prompt. Everything else is working as before except there is no more graphical log in. I use xfce (if this helps?). I suspect a start line commented in an init script. Have fun making Etch ! Bug#354211: wesnoth: I vote for this bug. I'd like two versions as there are two versions.
Package: wesnoth Version: 1.1.2-1 Followup-For: Bug #354211 Hello, I like this great game very much. I'd like to claim that I agree with Martin. There should be two sets of packages, as stated in the wiki : stable : "Version 1.0.2 is the latest stable version, updated with several important bugfixes. This version is recommended for most players since the 1.0.x online multiplayer community is very large and user-made campaign server has a robust content selection". development : "This version is recommended for coders and campaign developers, as well as those who want to preview the future of Wesnoth". I think Debian users can be both players (running wesnoth-stable) and previewers/debuggers (running wesnoth-development). I'd like to add that I value the upstream QA and the nice Debian packaging (which divides music, editor, campains...) May be it is just a matter of reviving the lastest 1.0.x packaging under the name "wesnoth-stable" ? Thank again to the BfW team and the Debian team. Bug#332938: qa.debian.org: please provide a user/tester view with workflow progress status
Package: qa.debian.org Followup-For: Bug #332938 Hello Debian Developpers, I'm Joe User testing Etch. I agree with Paul W. : it would be nice to integrate all reports from upstream to release status. Let me explain this. Outside of Debian, you see this : http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=debian (may be not up to date, may be same problems as dehs, but interesting) "Inside" Debian, you begin with this : http://packages.debian.org/etch/ (err 404) Then you discover that small link to the QA : http://packages.qa.debian.org/common/index.html Wonderfull ! Quality ! And more : you see Debian working, the packaging in unstable, the bugs filled, the developpers bringing to you the free software... It then links you to popcon stats http://popcon.debian.org/ but there are two more "sites" I discovered I don't remember how : http://bjorn.haxx.se/debian/ answers the tester question "Why is package X not in testing yet ?" (the number 2 question of a tester) http://dehs.alioth.debian.org/ the nirvana asks the tester's question "why the dd isn't packaging current upstream software ?" (the number 1 question of a user/tester) I understand that Debian is a community project, that the dd are not paid for their work and that they should contribute for the fun of it. I understand that dds have a life ouside of Debian and not all their time to code and package. But now that Etch is catching up with upstream versions (much better than Sarge), isn't it time to claim it to the world in a world friendly way like distrowatch ? Free software don't fear transparency. DD need reports of builds, bugs, wishlist, etc. Users may like to see a connection from upstream to releasing via the workflow. I hope you find my feedback helpfull. Happy Etching ! When I clic to select the message (or when the message is selected by deleting the previous one) the message isn't displayed in the view pane and if I clic on another desktop (where other apps are running fine) and then bring back the balsa window it doesn't redraw. In top in a terminal window I see CPU 99% idle and RAM OK. The only thing I can do is kill -SIGTERM (KILL not needed). 80% of my mail is still readable/answerable. But 20% is expecting a package upgrade. Feeling angry. Or should I downgrade balsa to sarge with aptpining ? (I'm an Etch/testing user) May be the bug came with 2.3.8-2 and wasn't here with 2.3.8-1. Or may be it was in 2.3.8-1 (or before) also but my mail flow hadn't raised it yet. Bug#358840: gnumail.app: Good news : the bug has vanished.
Package: gnumail.app Version: 1.1.2-5 Followup-For: Bug #358840 Hello Yavor and Hubert, before submitting the bug, I easily reproduced it 4 times in a row. But today it is unreproducible and I feel stupid ;) I'm sorry for this useless bug report which can be closed. As I try to update my Etch system frequently, may be a library has changed since last week. Nevermind, now GNUMail launches (under xfce, cool). Thank you for being responsive to a user report. Bug#358840: gnumail.app: GNUmail crashes X server
Package: gnumail.app Version: 1.1.2-5 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hello, I'm an Etch user and wanted to give GNUmail a try. According to the user's guide and the screenshots it is a nice full featured MUA. I aptituded it, opened a terminal window (under xfce) and typed "GNUMail". It crashed my X session : all the apps were crashed and I was back to xdm login screen. I've never seen such a crash before. It said : XIO: fatal IO error 104 on X server ":0.0" after 227 requests (224 known processed) with 91 events remaining. OK, I known, I should run GNUstep or so, right ? But I run Balsa under xfce without Gnome, so why not GNUMail under xfce without GNUstep ? BTW I'm a supporter of the Maildir mailbox format and that is why I use Balsa and want to try GNUMail : v1.2 should support it. Bug#351385: balsa: Displayed message size is always zero
Package: balsa Version: 2.3.4-3+b1 Severity: important The size of all the messages in the main view in always zero. I find it convenient to immediately see the size of the messages in the main window. The size column should not be filled with zeros. Everything else is working (reading mail, writing mail, receiving, sending, addressbook...). I haven't seen such a bug already reported. I have Etch with xorg and xfce. I don't remember well, but I think this bug came arround Balsa v2.2 (I hadn't installed reportbug at that time - here is my first try to participate). I use maildir folders and that is why I use Balsa rather than ThunderBird. Disregarding this bug, I thank all the Debian Devs. PM -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages balsa depends on: ii gnome-icon-theme 2.12.1-2 GNOME Desktop icon theme ii libaspell15 0.60.4-1 GNU Aspell spell-checker runtime l ii libbonobo2-0 2.10.1-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-02.10.1-1 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.3.5-8GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libesmtp5 1.0.3-1+b1 LibESMTP SMTP client library ii libgconf2-4 2.12.1-8 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglib2.0-0 2.8.6-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgmime2.1 2.1.17-2 MIME library, unstable version ii libgnome2-0 2.10.1-1 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomeprint2.2-02.12.1-3 The GNOME 2.2 print architecture - ii libgnomeprintui2.2-0 2.12.1-2 GNOME 2.2 print architecture User ii libgnomeui-0 2.10.1-1 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-02.10.1-5 The GNOME virtual file-system libr ii libgpgme111.1.0-1GPGME - GnuPG Made Easy ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.10-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkhtml3.6-18 3.6.2-1HTML rendering/editing library - r ii libkrb53 1.4.3-5MIT Kerberos runtime libraries ii libldap2 2.1.30-12 OpenLDAP libraries ii liborbit2 1:2.12.4-1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.10.2-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpcre3 6.4-1.1Perl 5 Compatible Regular Expressi ii libpopt0 1.7-5 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsqlite3-0 3.2.8-1SQLite 3 shared library ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8a-6 SSL shared libraries Versions of packages balsa recommends: ii aspell0.60.4-1 GNU Aspell spell-checker ii ispell3.1.20.0-4 International Ispell (an interacti pn yelp (no description available) -- no debconf information ___ Nouveau : téléphonez moins cher avec Yahoo!
