Bug#859672: [software-properties-gtk] Completely unusable and buggy in stretch, fix it or remove it
Package: software-properties-gtk Version: 0.96.20.2-1 Severity: grave --- Please enter the report below this line. --- This application inherit from Ubuntu is very buggy in Debian stretch. In tab "Debian Software": -Checkboxes for "main, contrib, non-free" can't be marked, but even they don't change the state to marked, it seems that they write something in sources.list file. -Checkbox for "Source code" is always marked and can't be clicked/unmarked. -The server chosen in "Download from" list is not respected, with any change, it is reverted to Main server and (writes http.us.debian.org in sources.list). In "Updates" tab: -Checkboxes for "Securty updates" and "Recommended updates" are not clickable. In "Developer options" tab: -Checkbox for "Proposed updates" are not clickable. This is my current sources.list: --- deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian/ stretch main contrib non-free deb-src http://httpredir.debian.org/debian/ stretch main contrib non- free deb http://security.debian.org/debian-security stretch/updates main contrib non-free deb-src http://security.debian.org/debian-security stretch/updates main contrib non-free --- But I also tried to use this tool with an empty sources.list with no success and same exposed issues. I can remember that this (Ubuntu native) tool always was very buggy in Debian, if it is not possible to fix or adapt for Debian, please, remove it because it is very confusing for users. Another issue is that it tries to load the UbuntuDrivers module when launching: ERROR:root:Cannot import UbuntuDrivers: No module named 'UbuntuDrivers' --- System information. --- Architecture: Kernel: Linux 4.9.0-1-amd64 Debian Release: 9.0 500 testing httpredir.debian.org 500 stable dl.google.com --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ===-+- gir1.2-gtk-3.0 | 3.22.11-1 python3 | 3.5.3-1 python3-gi | 3.22.0-2 python3-software-properties (= 0.96.20.2-1) | 0.96.20.2-1 software-properties-common | 0.96.20.2-1 python3:any (>= 3.3.2-2~) | Package's Recommends field is empty. Bug#784280: [wine64] winecfg executable not found
Package: wine64 Version: 1.6.2-20 Severity: important --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Hello, I'd like to report that a regular wine installation can't run winecfg to configure wine. I installed it with command apt-get install wine. Please look at this bash output: $ winecfg cat: /home/rafael/.wine/system.reg: No such file or directory /usr/bin/winecfg: 32: exec: winecfg.exe: not found $ wine /home/rafael/.wine64/drive_c/windows/system32/winecfg.exe $ echo $? 0 With the second command it worked, it seems that there is some mess with paths ~.wine (32 bit traditional) and ~.wine64 (the new used by deault in 64 bit archs). I expect that if I install wine package in a 64 bit (amd64) system, I can run later winecfg command. The current behaviour is that winecfg command is not found, and I need to type the full path to the executable. --- System information. --- Architecture: amd64 Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 Debian Release: 8.0 500 stable-updates ftp.es.debian.org 500 stable security.debian.org 500 stable ftp.es.debian.org --- Package information. --- Package's Depends field is empty. I think you should focus your work in wine 1.4 which is the currently stable release. El día 14 de abril de 2012 19:59, Michael Gilbert mgilb...@debian.org escribió: 1.1.42 is now up at http://people.debian.org/~mgilbert Ok, so I've been doing this for a week now, and it's gone fairly well except for the days that I was simply too busy with other things. Anyway, continuing at this rate, 1.2 should be achievable in less than a month. Although if I could have pushed these changes directly to unstable, it would be more like 3 weeks instead of 4. So, I would like to again make a sincere request for commit access to the pkg-wine git repo and an ack to upload to unstable so I can really get this thing going for real. Stefano, as you can see, lack of interaction from Ove continues to be a significant barrier to progress in this package. We would like take you up on your offer to request that the alioth admins accept mine and Stephen's request for commit access to pkg-wine if that seems reasonable. Ok, I understand. Sorry I am now involved in other projects and have no time right now to play with wine. Thanks for your valuable work. Bug#649883: [pkg-wine-party] Bug#649883: wine: Wine 1.0.1 - package not useful for anyone, error
There are now some bureaucratic issues regading wine package, because this, Debian 6.0 was released with an old Wine version. Now some people is starting to work into resuming the wine packaging work in Debian. Ideally a newer wine version should be packaged to debian-backports for stable, but by the moment you can see if these packages work for you: http://dev.carbon-project.org/debian/wine-unstable/ They are made by a Debian developer as I know. 2011/11/24 yellow yellowprot...@gmail.com: Package: wine Version: 1.0.1-3.1 Severity: important Dear Sir, Dear Maintainers of Debian, I would like to quote you the reply from Wine team from AppDB : a version of Wine that old is not useful to anyone. Wine from the current Debian is certainly un-useful for Anyone, according to Wine DB. Is our current Debian Stable old? - Of course not, wine 1.0.1 is not old, or relatively. We know that wine is much higher today in the version number. I just would like to mention that : - or we should think to provide a newer version of wine for current Debian stable - or I dont know :) I must say. Everyone is right. Debian stable use the 1.0.1 because it is stable. It is great. Although we post report for wine, it shall not be rejected to prone and say that wine works as Gold or Bronze just to make advertissement to the wine product. Wine shall be fair with the users, and let mention the reality and not hide it, although the version is kinda old. However debian is THE reference and this shall not be underestimated. Lov' Debian. I support you. I just note that wine 1.0.1 is fine. It works for most old win98, winxp, and so one. Why to update to last version when only little things can be fixed with little bash scripts or winetricks develpments I am not so sure that the maintaining of Wine is fair. It was just a note to us. A report to our strong debian community about our current debian stable. I do not believe that it might be old or that wine 1.0.1 is NOT useful to anyone. I do not. Loving Debian ! All the best Kind regards Y. -- quoted text / msg from appdb The test data you submitted for '' has been rejected by for Reason given: A test report for a version of Wine that old is not useful to anyone. Bug#640821: live-config-sysvinit: Debian reboot directly in the same kernel, does not show GRUB
Package: live-config-sysvinit Version: 3.0~a26-1 Severity: normal Tags: d-i squeeze wheezy Hello, this is a bug regarding Debian Live project. Bug#568040: I dont care about kcm_touchpad yet
Hello Sune, I don not care much about kcm_touchpad, some tapping issues in Debian unstable require Xorg patching, or upstream changes. No answer by upstream, and no intention of patching xorg from Debian Xorg team. So I have lost interest about this package, I'd look at synaptiks: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/synaptiks?content=114270 or just wait for KDE upstream do something about this. Anyone want to adopt this package? if not, i will close this bug.
Bug#474996: More info
In the current Debian testing, this bug cannot be reproducible because this feature is not available, I am not sure if by newer KDE 4, or by newer Grub 2, (I think by the second one). Therefore, I think this bug can be closed, update this feature for Grub 2 compatibility, or remove it, is a task of KDE upstream, I think.

Bug#565188: Plymouth integration in initramfs
Hello, i am writing to Debian Kernel Team to request support/compatibility for plymouth package in initramfs. Plymouth is an application that runs very early in the boot process (even before the root filesystem is mounted!) that provides a graphical boot animation while the boot process happens in the background. Plymouth isn't really designed to be built from source by end users. For it to work correctly, it needs integration with the distribution. Because it starts so early, it needs to be packed into the distribution's initial ram disk, and the distribution needs to poke plymouth to tell it how boot is progressing. This could be the cause of Bug #565188. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=565188 I will be waiting for your feedback. Cheers.

Bug#529862: Reproducible with xserver-xorg-video-intel
My package xserver-xorg-video-intel is 2:2.9.1-2 which is the current version in testing and unstable. The problem is reproducible each time I reboot the laptop (always), font type is not saved neither, it seems like the configuration wasn't stored or loaded property. When I run setupcon, my config is loaded and font type and localization starts to work perfectly.

Bug#514125: Gdebi package status in Debian
Hello, I am writing to both of you: Gustavo Franco and Michael Vogt, because you are the Debian maintainers of gdebi package. Until I know, Ubuntu Core Developers ubuntu-devel-disc...@lists.ubuntu.com are upstream developers of gdebi. I write this because you seems to have lost interest in gdebi package, or you may haven't enough time to maintain it. It is reflected by the very out of date version of gdebi in debian, it is 0.3.11 while 0.5.2 is already released. I uploaded 0.4.0 version to debian-mentors several time ago and anybody paid atention to it. You can consider to contact with Ubuntu Core Developers and propose them to package gdebi for Debian and make a sync of it to Ubuntu. But I know that it is hardy to expect that Ubuntu Core Developers to package it for Debian, so you (or we) surely will need to do the work. I would like to know if you plan to continue maintaining gdebi package, i can help packaging new versions of gdebi if you haven't time and upload them to debian-mentors. Or if you have lost any insterest, look for another maintainer. Thanks you very much by your atention. Cheers.

Bug#514125: gdebi package updates (Debian stuff)
Hello Gustavo and Michael, I hope for you read this message. Gdebi package in Debian archive is too old yet, an update is needed. Current gdebi version in unstable is 0.3.11 when the latest upstream is 0.4.9. Unfortunately version 0.4.9 depends on python 2.6 which is not still in unstable, so we only can package it for experimental, or force it to use python 2.5 (I think this is not a good idea). But there are a version of gdebi that works pretty well in Debian testing/unstable now, it is 0.4.0 version. The current gdebi version in Debian 0.3.11 does not provide KDE frontend becouse it was problematic in Debian lenny with KDE 3.5, now KDE 4.2 is in testing and unstable and version 0.4.0 of gdebi provides a KDE4 frontend that is working now in Debian. So we could update gdebi to its 0.4.0 version until python 2.6 reach unstable, I have packages (binary and source) in my Launchpad PPA, so I can colaborate with you in this task. I will be waiting for your reply. Cheers.
Bug#514125: gdebi package updates (Debian stuff)
Hello, I have uploaded a package of 0.4.0 version by the moment to debian-mentors, I have received the confirmation of the upload: Your upload of the package 'gdebi' to mentors.debian.net was successful. Sponsors can now download it. The URL of your package is: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gdebi The respective dsc file can be found at: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gdebi/gdebi_0.4.0debian1+nmu1.dsc - You can check it and if you consider, upload it to Debian archive, It builds on an pbuilder fake unstable enviroment. Packaging 0.4.9 version require several tests by the mentioned issues.

In addiction some KDE3 dependencies, may dissapear from the archive. So I am trying to make a Debian package from a recent functional svn snapshot, i am having some problems so I am just starting in Debian packaging, I am following the Debian New Maintainers' Guide so I hope for having the package soon. There are a bug requesting an update to 1.5 final: Bug #460746 since some time ago and the maintainer has not atended it. See also Bug #515663, ITP for kmess2 package. Bug#514882: [menu] Please split 'menu' Debian package and su-to-root script
Package: menu Version: 2.1.41 Severity: wishlist --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Hello i am here to talk about 'menu' Debian package and its script su-to-root. I think this package and script is/was developed by Debian (Debian mainteiners/developers are also upstream) by this i am writting this here. menu package has inside a bash script called 'su-to-root' to launch X applications using the proper authentication method according to the Desktop (gksu for Gnome, kdesu for KDE, etc..). This is a useful script, but applications that want to use su-to-root needs to depend on 'menu' for asure that .desktop launcher will work using su-to-root. The problem is that many users and many Debian-based GNU/Linux distributions do not want to install 'menu' package because it may add Debian menu, which is found useless in some cases having Gnome or KDE menus. By this, me and some other persons have thought in to split 'menu' package and su-to-root script into two different packages. And we have thought that upstream developers may want to support the idea. I will be waiting for your answer.
