Bug#673582: x11-xserver-utils: xsetroot -def doesn't

2012-05-19 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: x11-xserver-utils
Version: 7.7~2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I've just upgraded my box from Squeeze to Testing, and find that
the screen background is black instead of plaid. According to
the man page, 'xsetroot -def' (formerly: 'xsetroot -default')
should restore the plaid background.

This does not work for me on two machines, one i386 and one amd64,
both with testing as of these days, and I've not found any other
option to restore the plaid layout.

Can you please repair this?

Kind regards,
--Toni++

Bug#673240: qemu-kvm: active wait on CD image boot

2012-05-17 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: qemu-kvm
Version: 0.12.5+dfsg-5+squeeze8
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm not sure that I'm filing the bug against the correct package - if
not, please say so, and feel free to re-assign.

I recently installed a KVM machine using virt-manager, which had a DVD
iso image with Debian configured as a CDROM drive to boot from, to
install the machine. Firing up the machine I see that it boots into the
menu where you choose the installation method. At that point, it sits
and waits for user input - afair, indefinitely. But while doing nothing,
the VM is pegged at 100% CPU, when it should be idling at ~1-5% CPU.

Disconnecting the CD drive from the VM and then rebooting the machine
makes it boot to the login prompt, then sit idling at said 1-5% CPU.
Mounting the image as a CDROM after booting does not seem to have
adverse performance aspects.

Kind regards,
--Toni++

 Excellent. Thanks for the update.

Kernel maintainers: please consider the 25-patch series from [1] for
sid. It adds support for various new wacom tablets to the input
subsystem, most notably the Bamboo PenTouch gen3.

it occurred to me that I saw no obvious way to configure the tablet, so
the only operating mode is to have the small, approximately A5-sized
sensitive area represent the whole screen. Which makes using the tablet
sort of difficult if you have a large screen resolution because the
cursor jumps at every small move. It's sort of like a mouse with high
accelleration.

So while it technically works, I'm a bit doubtful about the usefulness
of it - but then, I have no expectations.

 Don't gnome-control-center, kde-config-tablet, and xinput have support
 for tablets?

I don't know, as I don't use these things.

*nod* I vaguely remember programs like the GIMP and Krita
automatically making tablets represent the canvas instead of the
 screen, but I'm not sure.

Me neither. :/

hrmpf, didn't see that one. Sorry. :(

Will try with changed BIOS settings tomorrow.

What make and model is this machine?

It's a BTO machine from a local dealer.

Does dmidecode know about it? Are there any BIOS settings relevant to
 virtualization?

I don't know atm - usually, I don't touch the BIOS.

Bug#672809: taxbird: version in testing (0.16.x) is completely useless

thank you - I didn't see that when I emailed you.

Based on [1] the release team would be happy to see this fixed in
squeeze, provided the changes are sensibly small. If I understand
correctly, that means preparing uploads for libgeier and taxbird
intended to build and run in a squeeze environment, with version
numbers like 0.18-0+squeeze1, as described at [2] (and corrected by
[3]). Would you like to pursue this? I would be happy to help in any
 way I can.

I'm not sure that I understand you, and I'm also unsure what the
problem with http://people.debian.org/~toni/taxbird/ is, except that I
should also sign it.

Bug#672876: texlive-binaries: updmap always fails

How did they end up in there?

I have no idea - but I do have a tendency to install whatever random
packages are in the Debian archive, not only those that I strictly
need... although I do need TeX.

  # updmap --syncwithtrees

YOu should never do that on Debian ... .never ...

I did that because the error message instructed me to do this.

Undefined subroutine main::disableMap called at /usr/bin/updmap line 343.
Fixed in svn of TEX Live.

Ok.

  10texlive-lang-arab.cfg
Is this from OLDSTABLE? I.e. from TeX Live 2007???

Maybe, but I can't remember.

Can you purge texlive-lang-arab please. And remove this file,
 and run
   update-updmap
 as root.

Done. Now, running dpkg --configure -a completed.

No, I am quite sure that it is the above
   10texlive-lang-arab.cfg
which is a left over from pre-history.

 Did you have a mixture of 2007 - 2009 - 2011 at soem point?
Mixing testing and experimental and having *oldstable* files
 looks like a huge mess.

The experimental is only in there because I wanted to have the 3.3
kernel. I added it only very recently.

Ok, thanks. If you get a chance to try the driver from wheezy then:

  - if it isn't fixed, we can pursue this upstream.
  - if it is fixed, we can think about how to support these tablets
well in squeeze, either by preparing a stable update or updating
the package at backports.debian.org.

Imho, the only missing part seems to be the kernel-level driver, which
is not in the stock 3.2 kernel. The X driver is already fine.

Hi,

the 0.16 version of the package can only do tax declarations for 2011,
and is thus entirely useless for anyone who wants to use it for taxes
in 2012. I think it would be a shame if Wheezy would release with a
package that is so useless right from the start. Please consider
grabbing my version from p.d.o (see #663656), or see me NMU it at the

today, I was able to use the new kernel generated along the ways you
outlined. It's a 3.2.16 plus your patches:

ii linux-image-3.2.0-2-amd64 3.2.16-1a~test

plus its prerequisites. A little too much for the upstream -stable
trees, but these look like good changes for wheezy.

The results are, as with the 3.3 kernel:

 * Using the tablet with one finger works, although very clumsily. It's
more like trial-and-error to put the pointer somewhere, and tapping
the tablet does not work at all - one has to press the appropriate
   button.

 * When I put the stylus close to the tablet, the blue LED changes
its colour to white. But otherwise, the stylus has no effect
whatsoever - can't use the mouse, nor press a button.

 * None of the more advanced functions of the tablet (pressure
   sensitivity, 3D, or multi-touch) work.

I didn't made any effort to specifically configure the X server to work
with this tablet, so those results only reflect what I got out of
auto-detecting the device (ie, plugging it in and see what I get).

That may or may not make any difference... but I'm no expert in this
kind of stuff.

Bug#601856: loses disks, too

I just stumbled over this old bug report of mine since gkrellm now does

Hello,

since 3.2 is the long-term support kernel that will be in Wheezy, it
would be great if the wacom driver from 3.3 could be backported to 3.2,
so users can make use of contemporary hardware, eg. this device:

Bug#670101: 'bind -e' disables the editline functionality

2012-04-22 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: libedit2
Version: 2.11-20080614-2
Severity: minor

Hi,

I wanted to explicitly configure emacs-style editing, and put this into
my .editrc:

bind -e

The result is that (at least) tab-completion stopped working. I tried
with edit on before and after this statement, but to no avail.

Also, searching needs to be bound specifically, instead of being bound
automatically, as one could expect from trying the 'emacs mode'.

Kind regards,

Bug#668341: scim: program is unreliable

2012-04-11 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: scim
Version: 1.4.9-6
Severity: normal

Hi,

lately, scim has become quite unreliable in the sense that whether it's
working or not, has become a hit-and-miss experience. I start scim out
of my .xsession file like this:

scim -c simple -e
pinyin,chewing,libprime,libprime-imengine-setup,m17n,pinyin,prime,rawcode,socket,table,uim
 -f x11 -d

But every other run yields only garbled characters instead of the
Chinese I attempted to write. In such a case, closing the session and
re-entering it frequently fixes the situation, and scim operation
returns back to normal. The problem seems to be related to disk
activity, so when I'm logging in after booting the machine up, anacron
and whatnot provide plenty of that, followed by a non-functional scim
experience. Sometimes, scim also silently crashes (didn't find any logs
- they should have been in .xsession-errors, right?).

May be related to #620391?

Kind regards,

Bug#663656: taxbird: need the latest version for 2012 tax declaration

2012-03-12 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: taxbird
Version: 0.15-1+b1
Severity: important

Hi,

German users need the new version for 2012 tax declarations.
I'm working on a backport for 0.18 and the corresponding
libgeier to facilitate that.

@Maintainer: Do you prefer the package to go to
backports, or should I send you the changed code?

Kind regards,
--Toni++

PS: Justification for important: The old package can't do tax
declarations for 2012.

Bug#660639: debian-installer: too few inodes on /var

2012-02-20 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: debian-installer
Version: 20110106+squeeze4
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

when installing a Debian Squeeze machine, while partitioning the disk,
the associated help texts suggest that the option for more inodes is
only required for a news server. But in my practical experience, almost
all systems sooner or later seem to hit the inodes limit on /var.

It is generally a very bad idea to run out of inodes, and, much worse,
they even can't be retrofitted to an existing file system, it should be
worth the effort to allocate more of them right from the start
(re-formatting /var in an otherwise running system also has the
potential for great havoc).

I therefore suggest that the d-i allocates much more inodes for /var in
any case, as just far too many files go in there during regular
operations. If my icinga reports are correct, eight times as many inodes
should be a good ballpark figure.

Kind regards,
--Toni++

hardwired into the system, but here's a patch to start changing that.
It honors the BASEDIR variable, if set in /etc/pbuilderrc.

Bug#657606: unbound: fails to resolve after some uptime

2012-01-27 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: unbound
Version: 1.4.14-2~bpo60+1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm running unbound and discover, that after some uptime in the order of
weeks, resolving stops. Unfortunately, I panicked and simply restarted
the server to make it work again, so my means of diagnosing the problem
are limited. Flushing a non-resolving zone didn't have any effect, only
a complete restart.

Sample domamin that stopped resolving: xs4all.nl

I got NXDOMAIN and SERVFAIL answers before the restart.

My server does only some 3500 queries per hour on average, measured over
a few days.

Bug#646155: scim: arrows should appear on the left side

2011-10-21 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: scim
Version: 1.4.9-6
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Hi,

when using Chinese, I often see a small window that shows a number of
characters that might be of interest to me, with two arrows to scroll
through a list, which appear on the right side. Unfortunately, the list,
as well as the screen real estate the characters need, changes all the
time, so there is no sure-fire way to repeatedly press one of the two
arrows while not moving the mouse.

It would be great if the program could offer the option to place the
arrows on the left side instead of the right, so they have a fixed place
on the screen, and can thus more reliably be clicked.

Bug#644524: scim-pinyin: please display wubi codes in preview window

2011-10-06 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: scim-pinyin
Version: 0.5.91-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I'd like to move to Wubi, but often have trouble finding the right Wubi
code. It would be nice if the Pinyin could display the Wubi code for the
characters, as does eg. IME on Windows. That would probably ease
learning Wubi quite a bit.

It would also be great if a similar arrangement could be made for
CangJie.

Bug#642299: udev: high system load after using cruzer usb stick

2011-09-21 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: udev
Version: 164-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

today I had a very high system load (see attached image) on my PC after
inserting a Cruzer USB stick (4gb memory). After unmounting and removing
the stick, the problem persisted, with tons of messages pertaining to a
device sr1 which is not found in dmesg, only in kern.log.

After some searching, I found

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/udevd-high-cpu-load-810937/

which may or may not be related, and decided to stop and restart udev.

The problem has not re-occurred yet.

Bug#639281: worklog: does not survive resizing of the terminal

2011-08-25 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: worklog
Version: 1.8-4

Hi,

today, I played around with worklog. Initially, I used a large window,
which I then wanted to resize. After doing that, the window started
continuously beeping, and worklog stopped responding to 'DEL'. I
therefore had to kill worklog.

Bug#388454: how to discover that info, then?

2011-07-11 Thread Toni Mueller

Hi Michael,

maybe the option does have to do with resolvconf, but how is a user
supposed to find out which options are available, maybe even required
in certain circumstances, when there is no mentioning in the manpage to
the file?

The man page for the 'interfaces' file says that one should look at
certain examples, but both the web page and the shipped example file
are incomplete and eg. don't mention how to configure more than one
nameserver through the dns-nameservers option.

Can we consider this closed, then? Or should that feature be
 disabled by default?

good question - I didn't see it. Don't know offhand where to easily
find it: Upstream's changelog isn't included in the package, so...

I'd be fine either way, but think that the feature deserves more
advertising, or, alternatively (?), being disabled by default, to
prevent bogus bug reports like mine.

Hi,

while trying to debug a problem with my pbuilder configuration, I found
that the build space (/var/cache/pbuilder/build) was always deleted.
After some debugging, I contrived the following patch that solves the
problem for me:

Bug#629944: kvpnc: program crashes everytime I want to start it

2011-06-09 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: kvpnc
Version: 0.9.6a-2
Severity: important

Hello,

on this computer, I am unable to start kvpnc (didn't try on any other
computer, yet). If I try to start it as a regular user, I get a dialog
box saying, that the program must be started as root (why?). Then, if I
open a root shell and try to start it as root, I get:

# kvpnc
kvpnc(22643): Session bus not found

KCrash: Application 'kvpnc' crashing...
sock_file=/root/.kde/socket-spruce/kdeinit4__0
Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.
drkonqi(22644): Session bus not found

I haven't yet figured out how to resurrect the problem.

Hi,

I have .p12 certificates for IPSEC usage, and kvpnc uses a lot of time
importing such certificates, on the order of five minutes at least,
while both disk and cpu are idle.

Bug#628023: netbase: description for dns is awkward

2011-05-26 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: netbase

Hi,

I've stumbled over this wording in /etc/services:

Please change the wording to this, as is much more in line with the
common spelling of DNS, and with the wording used at IANA:

domain 53/tcpDomain Name Server
domain 53/udpDomain Name Server

Package: itrans-fonts
Version: 5.3-9
Severity: normal

Hi,

I've just encountered a web page which was apparently created using
ITRANS, but some glyphs are not displayed correctly.

The main page is here: http://www.detlef108.de/Rigveda.htm

Please click on the UTF-8 versions to see the problem, and compare with
the PDFs for what exactly might be missing.

I don't know if this is the correct package to report the problem
against, so feel free to reassign.

Bug#622926: flashplayer-nonfree: package can't be installed

2011-04-15 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: flashplayer-nonfree
Version: 1:2.8.2
Severity: important
Tags: upstream

Hi,

I cannot install the package due to a checksum problem. Downloading the
archive from Adobe yields this checksum:

$ sha512sum /tmp/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz

But trying to install the package gives:

...

  4800K .. .. .. .. .. 99% 691K 0s

Maybe Adobe released a new version of this software?

In any case, not being able to install the latest flash player does
usually leave users with a gaping security hole.

In this case, as the checksum file is from March 22nd, could be wrong
since in the meantime, Adobe might have released a new version.

Bug#549673: Same problem with Samhain

2011-04-08 Thread Toni Mueller

Hi,

I get a Samhain warning every day and found that CUPS (!@!IO@#*@#!!!)
likes to update some timestamps in /etc/cups/*. I also read about the
(imho) broken idea of the upstream maintainers to keep it that way.

But maybe one can take a peek at how HylaFax attacks a similar problem
by copying /etc/hylafax to and fro, and adapt that to the CUPS problem?

Hi,

as of late, 'git log' seems to have no useful coloured output.

Formerly, it had no colour whatsoever, but recently, it had started
using colours, but doesn't get them right. FWIW, 'git pull' emitted a
diffstat which was correctly coloured, but 'git log' emits these things
in the same terminal (abbreviated sample):

Bug#616174: same problem here

2011-03-15 Thread Toni Mueller

Hi,

I'm in the same boat: Upgrading a box from Lenny with a perfectly fine
working LPRng install blew up and installed CUPS. Now only ASCII files
print, even after forcefully re-installing LPRng. For that matter,
things didn't print properly with CUPS, too.

Saying that it isn't a problem of the lprng package may be technically
correct, but at least I would be interested in what exactly to do:

Report the same bug against cups packages? Against all packages that
have Recommends: cups?

Drop lprng and forcefully move to CUPS (I usually like lprng much
better)?

thanks for the heads-up. The command that is not being found, though,
is deluser (part of the adduser package). The respective course of
action in other packages seems to be to leave the user entry in
/etc/passwd behind, instead of trying 'sed' or something on it to
remove the entry.

I'm not comfortable with such a solution, either.

What do you recommend, short of simply deleting the references to
deluser?

   /var/lib/dpkg/info/roundup.postrm: 50: deluser: not found

The adduser package has only priority important, not essential. I
find this a little strange because imho, nobody should manually edit
these files (also a good way to bypass any PAM configuration).

thanks for pointing out the discrepancy. Unfortunately, the docs are
wrong on both accounts, as you can easily verify:

1. Omitting the host statement makes roundup listen on all addresses,

I'll talk to upstream to see what the preferred solution would be -
patching the code or the docs.

after running pg_upgradecluster to upgrade from 8.3 (Lenny) to 8.4
(Squeeze), my pg_hba.conf in the 8.3 release was nuked, and the
pg_hba.conf in 8.4 is also broken. As a result, all my access controls
are lost, and all database-using applications stopped working.

I see no reason why the program should mangle the old pg_hba.conf in the
first place. The man page also gives no warning whatsoever.

Kind regards,

Bug#539919: using .Xresources does not work

2011-02-14 Thread Toni Mueller

Hi,

I still get *awful* fonts on a newly upgraded system. Comparing with
another system that I smoothly upgraded from Testing to Squeeze, and
where fonts appear to work, I didn't yet find the difference.

Currently, on my new Squeeze box, -fn does not work in whatever way I
want. If I leave it off, the font is very small and hard to read, and
if I specify my desired font, either as 10x20 or as -misc-..., I
get also awful results. If I use Set Default Font from the menu, I
get a font picker with only typographic fonts that I usually do not
want to use, and I have not yet found a way to specify the desired font
picked there, eg. in my .emacs file. Also, Save Options did re-write
my .emacs file, but no font statements could be found there.

Bug#611894: varnishstat doesn't obey flow control (?!?)

2011-02-03 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: varnish
Version: 2.1.3-7~bpo50+1
Severity: normal

Hi,

when I run 'varnishstat', I cannot freeze the output by pressing Ctrl-S.
I can do it eg. in 'top' without any problems, but in varnishstat, this
just has no effect. This is in the same xterm session on the same
machine.

The problem makes using cutpaste impossible, as updates come faster
than I can do the cutpaste operation, and each updates destroys the
markers for the area.

Bug#608328: psi: can't enable gpg

2010-12-29 Thread Toni Mueller

Version: 0.14-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

after installing a new computer with what is to be Squeeze, I cannot
enable gpg for my accounts. I copied the .gnupg and .psi directories
over from a very similar computer (also almost-Squeeze/i386), along with
the (working) settings that include using gpg for some accounts. On this
computer, though, I cannot get it to work. Using strace didn't reveal
anything that I could connect to this problem.

FWIW, I saw several of these messages on the console:

No reply from the submitter, bug was filed against the lenny version so
there's no evidence this affects squeeze. As such, tagging
squeeze-ignore until more information is available.

sorry for missing the messages. I thought I had replied to this
already, but it seems that (at least) the problem does not always
occur, and I was also able to set up a working pure-ftpd-postgresql
configuration on a different Lenny host, too. But I have to look again
whether I used a different version of pure-ftpd, or not.

Bug#607534: linux-image-2.6.32-5-xen-686: crash upon calling 'startx'

thanks for the heads-up. Uhhh...

Patches which resolve the issue have been posted upstream, but I don't
know if the maintainer accepted them yet. The patches also need a
non-trivial amount of backport to the kernel to be used in Squeeze.

Hmmm. Would it be reasonable to switch to eg. 2.6.36 or higher?

The problem appears to occur only with the entry in grub.cfg that I

thanks, but that wasn't the question. The question was rather, whether
I should be looking at an appropriate backport.

The patches are not in 2.6.37-rc so 2.6.36 isn't helpful for a private
kernel build either. I suppose the patches are likely to land in 2.6.38.

Ok, I'll have an eye on that.

Hello,

I have a problem when I try to mount a CD image, regardless of whether
it's a physical CD in a drive, or an ISO image on the file system. I've
tried different images, to be sure. This is what I get (one sample):

Bug#606136: etckeeper: alert the user of required manual intervention

2010-12-06 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: etckeeper
Version: 0.43~bpo50+1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

it would be great if etckeeper could alert the user of required manual
intervention. The package comes configured for git, but if git isn't
installed, the initialization step will simply be skipped, silently.
Either asking the user about which VCS he wants to use, and/or emitting
a message that the user needs to do something to get a functional
package (eg. as an else clause to the init step in postinst), would be
nice.

Kind regards,

Bug#605882: roundup: New Upstream (1.4.16)

it would be nice if you could upgrade to version 1.4.16.

I'm fully aware of the release, but it will probably take me some time
to create the package:

* The functional difference to 1.4.15 appears to be small to me.
Therefore I concluded (errornously?) that it is not urgent, see
below. Do you have a special requirement that can only be satisfied
  with this version?
* I'm currently highly loaded with my day job, which is not helpful
to pursue the ideas I have for future roundup packages, namely
* moving from bazaar to git and git-buildpackage, possibly alongside
setting up a Hudson job for the software and the packaging and
finally moving the package to PAPT, too.

Hi,

I'm running torrus and find that it does not appear to detect reboot of

It would be great if you could look into packaging one of these
versions.

Thank you!

Speakers are typically off, also during playing.

 Does enigma --nosound work better?

I'll have to check that.

Do you play fullscreen or windowed mode?

Bug#603291: mutt: unable to attach folder

2010-11-12 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.20-9
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Hello,

I'd like to attach folders with everything contained. This would spare
me the tedious process of attaching one file after the other while
navigating the tree, and also spare the problem of possible name
collision.

I know I could create an archive, eg. using tar or zip, but would prefer
to not do this, since the other side then complains about the work to
unpack those.

Kind regards,
--Toni++

a few days ago I installed that version. So far, although I haven't
given it extensive testing yet (ie, logged in only a few times), it has
not failed me. It is also hard to compare the two versions, as the new
version provides me with many more sensors as before, which led me to
activate five temperature and six fan sensors (all giving different
readings). So far, it has just been working fine. :)

Bug#603207: emacs23: opening a file requires two attempts

2010-11-11 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: emacs23
Version: 23.2+1-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

when I see a directory listing in emacs and want to edit a certain file,
I position the cursor in that row and hit enter. For about any file I've
tried so far, emacs has started to require two attempts to load the
file. I don't know when this started, but it wasn't this way in earlier
days. Anyway, here is what I get when I want to load a file:

Debugger entered--Lisp error: (wrong-number-of-arguments set-buffer-multibyte 0)
  (set-buffer-multibyte)
  (lambda nil (setq case-fold-search t) (setq x-symbol-8bits t)

nil)
  find-file(/home/toni/django/ftpadmin/templates/base.html)
  dired-find-file()
  call-interactively(dired-find-file nil nil)

In that case, I Ctrl-] to leave the debugger, which positions my cursor
on said file again. Then I press enter for the second time, and emacs
loads the file into a buffer.

Bug#333953: bash: LC_COLLATE ignores nocaseglob in some locales

2010-11-04 Thread Toni Mueller

Hi,

On Tue, 02.11.2010 at 19:54:40 -0500, Jonathan Nieder jrnie...@gmail.com
wrote:
 # this is how fnmatch() is documented to work

you can document all you want, including that 'ls' is suddenly meant to
behave like 'rm -f', but that doesn't make it any better.

The relevant detail is that what [a-z] matches depends on the
collation order. This gives globs like [??-??] a more useful
(locale-specific) meaning than the C.UTF-8 collation order would
dictate, with the unfortunate side-effect of giving [a-z]
counterintuitive behavior with respect to case folding[1].

I must admit that I am not sure that I completely understood your
opengroup references, but would like to point out that programmers and
systems administrators may have quite different requirements than end
users, which these Posix documents are clearly aimed at, and that
these people are also most likely constitute the majority of bash
users. End users are expected to use a GUI these days, where their
nautilus, konqueror and what-have-you can sort files all the way *they*
want.

I just verified that dash does *NOT* ignore case like bash does. IOW,
scripts intended to run on both bash and dash may behave differently,
depending on which shell they are actually run by. This should hold for
a large part of system scripts in Debian.

I therefore request that the options nocaseglob and nocasematch are
made to work as primarily documented, ie, without any hidden gotchas.
Ie, these options should override, not be overridden by, the effects of
LC_*.

 Toni Mueller wrote:
Upping the severity due to possible negative impact (I've been bitten
  several times, too), semi-hidden documentation,

A separate bug report suggesting how to improve the documentation
 would be welcome.

I'd rather have the behaviour return to a sane state, than having this
idiocy documented any better, although attaching big flashing warning
signs to these options and stating any workaround might be a first
step to prevent people from getting snared.

 Hope that helps,

Not really.

Bug#601856: gkrellm: fans are not always detected on startup

Package: gkrellm
Version: 2.3.4-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I run gkrellm from my .xsession file, and often, gkrellm does not detect
all three fans in my computer, but only two of them. After one or two
minutes of being run, I can usually click on the fan menu where the
third fan now appears, deselected. Then I can activate the monitoring of
the fan and see the fan's status. I'd just like gkrellm to come up with
all three fans all of the time.

I have a sysfs mounted on /sys, and mbmon running for ages.

not quite. The GIMP should have a feature to open a file read-only,
then, as other programs also want to get a lock on them. Makes at least
