Bug#892136: Info received (Bug#892136: /usr/bin/loimpress: Libreoffice Impress sometimes silently deletes a slide from the presentation)

2018-03-19 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny

I have somehow isolated the problem. It appears when somebody tries to
rearrange the slides in the left pannel using the mouse with slightly worn left
button, or with touchpad.
Certain combination of position of the dragged slide and left button clicks
(e.g. caused by damaged left button) results in the immediate and silent
deletion of the dragged slide.

Wojtek

Would you also file the same bug if people using vi would do 1dd
or %y or so blindly in command mode and wondering whether 1 lines or your
file contents are gone?

No, however if deletion occurs during normal edition (scrolling, entering of
normal characters) it is obviously a reason to fill the bug report.

You yourself said:

"Probably certain user activity (a special dragging the slides in the
left
pannel, or using a special key sequence?) causes Impress to delete a
slide without any warning or confirmation request."

"special key sequence" is not the same as "entering of normal
characters", neither is "a special dragging" the same as scrolling.

Generally the problem occurs during normal editing. When I change the slides
order in the left pannel, or when I switch between moving slides and normal
editing in the main window.
Unfortunately, I can't recreate that behavior. Whenever I try to trigger the problem, and do strangest operations in the left pannel (e.g. dropping one slide on another, dragging the group of slides
etc.) nothing happens.

As soon as I start normal editing and focus on the work not on the GUI
operations, the problem randomly occurs.
If I detect it quickly enough, I can recover the slide with CTRL+Z. If I notice it after significant changes are done, the only workaround is to save the corrupted presentation in another file, then
recover the original presentation with CTRL+Z, and finally merge them both.

Wojtek

It should be possible to switch an obligatory warning/confirmation request
before any deletion of a slide or group of slides.

I'd consider it annoying if valid slide deletions would always need to
be deleted. Would you also do it in every cell in calc? In every word in
writer?

I'd prefer to be able to set it in the settings (preferences) menu.
Currently having my presentations corrupted in random way is much more annoying
then confirming the deletions.

Bug#724503: The problem still occurs. One significant detail - it happens only when ekiga can't register to SIP account

2016-09-19 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny

Today I had to use ekiga, and it crashed again with:

(ekiga:18868): GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID 4294967295 was not found when
attempting to remove it

Error=24

bort, ore dump, hrow exception, gnore? shm_open() failed: Too many
open files
shm_open() failed: Too many open files

However I have noticed one important thing. The problem occurs only when
I'm connecting from my University network, that blocks possibility to register
on SIP account.
When I'm running ekiga at home - at unrestricted network. The problem
disappears.
I've found the following error report:
https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2013-11/msg02687.html
which describes the same problem.
There is a probable explanation of the problem there:

I tried to debug this issue, and it seems that Ekiga runs an endless
registration loop under certain circumstances, since each subscriber()
initializes a PThread object, which in turn creates a pair of filedescriptors
with pipe(). At some point, the process runs out of file descriptors...

So the quick workarouns for those who are hit by that bug is:
If you are connecting from a restricted network, that disables registration to
your SIP account,
go into the accounts configuration in ekiga and disable your SIP account.

If your ekiga crashes too quickly, and you have no chance, to disable the
account via Accounts menu,
you can go to your ~/.gconf/apps/ekiga/protocols/ directory and edit %gconf.xml
file:

It should look like this:

1|1|0cbba49b-494d-d312-1ac2-a6748a9b3cdc|Ekiga.net|SIP|ekiga.net|ekiga.net|my_name|my_name|my_password|36

To disable the account, simply change the first "1" into "0":

0|1|0cbba49b-494d-d312-1ac2-a6748a9b3cdc|Ekiga.net|SIP|ekiga.net|ekiga.net|my_name|my_name|my_password|36

Of course you can also copy the old %gconf.xml file to %gconf.xml.enabled and
completely remove the account definition from the list.
You may keep two versions saved - %gconf.xml.restricted (with removed/disabled
SIP accounts) and %gconf.xml.full (with enabled SIP accounts).
Then you should copy the right version to %gconf.xml before you start ekiga.

This is just a dirty workaround, but today it has saved my life ;-).

Wojtek

Bug#808957: /usr/bin/ipetoipe: ipetoipe does not export in the EPS format any more

2015-12-24 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny

OK. I have missed the fact, that there is a new tool - iperender, which
provides the functionality to export image in the EPS format.

Dear Maintainer,

Previous versions of the ipetoipe tool were able to export ipe files to EPS
format. It was very useful for preparation of LaTeX documents, where
vector graphics in the ".ipe" source format could be automatically
converted into ".eps" format handled by the graphics package in LaTeX.
It seems, that current version of ipetoipe supports only the XML .ipe format
and the .pdf format.

This bug is difficult to investigate for me, and upstream (ptlib) uses a new

will use the new ptlib release, in which case
if the bug still appears I will contact ptlib developer.

I have recompiled ekiga from sources (apt-get source ekiga; installing

Bug#644174: Workaround acpi_backlight=vendor allows system to boot with USB device connected to the USB 3.0 port

Hi,
I've checked old workarounds suggested in
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42844
and have found, that the kernel parameter acpi_backlight=vendor given by Lan
Brown in https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42844#c4 allows my system
to boot with different USB devices
connected to the USB 3.0 port, with kernels 3.10.2 and 3.10.7 (probably it may
also work for earlier kernels).

Bug#644174: Some new details - system hangs when i915 module is loaded with modeset=1, after a device was connected to USB 3.0 port during boot

2013-08-16 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Hi,

I've performed a few experiments (please see
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42844 , comments 24-27), and found,
that the system hangs when I load the i915 module with modeset=1, after any
device was connected to the USB 3.0 port during boot.

When I boot the system with i915.modeset=0 it starts always.
Later on I can reload the i915 module with modeset=1 to obtain full graphics
performance.
( rmmod i915; modprobe i915 modeset=1)

However it any USB device WAS connected to one of USB 3.0 ports during the
boot, the system hangs.
If no such device was present, the module gets loaded and the following
messages are displayed and written to the system log:

Bug#717846: libreoffice-writer: Comment in a tables corrupts the table layout, when saving file in a .doc format and rereading it.

2013-07-25 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: libreoffice-writer
Version: 1:4.0.3-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I was processing a document with table and comments put in some cells in the
table.
I had to save the document in the old MS Word .doc format, to make it
available for colleagues using MS Word.
Unfortunately it apeeared, that when I reread the document saved in the .doc
format, my table got corrupted.
The cell after the comment was empty. Content of the next cell was moved to
the next cell, and content of the last cell in the row was appended to the
first cell in the next row.
I attach te simplest file exposing the bug.
1. test.odt - original file
2. test.doc - the file saved in the .doc format
3. test2.odt - the resulting after reading the test.doc file and saving it
again in the .odt format as test2.odt

2013-03-06 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
i have just compiled and tested kernel 3.8.2.
It still hangs with a device connected to the USB 3.0 connector,
unless you use i915.modeset=0 as a kernel parameter

Booting with the above option is also not a viable workaround,
as it badly affects video performance...

Bug#700089: /usr/bin/localc: Attempt to open empty CSV file with further cancellation corrupts the file

2013-02-08 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: libreoffice-calc
Version: 1:3.5.4+dfsg-4
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/localc

Dear Maintainer,

I have a device, which stores the measurement data into the CSV file.
When the file is empty (nothing measured yet), the localc displays
window asking to select the appropriate import filter.
However when I press cancel (anuluj in the Polish version),
the file gets corrupted - the empty file gets replaced with
file of length of 1536 bytes with binary/unicode data
Steps to repeat:

1. $ measurement.csv
2. $ localc measurement.csv
3. When the Filter Selection window appears, press Cancel
4. Check that the measurement.csv file is 1536 bytes long instead of
original 0 bytes.

Bug#623004: Problem with xhc_hcd USB 3.0 exists also in kernel 3.1

2011-11-01 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny

Hi,
I use the Dell Vostro 3750 laptop in which I experienced strange freezes during
startup.
(The problem was initially described in
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2011/10/msg02496.html )
After some experiments I've found, that the problem is caused by USB devices connected to one of two USB 3.0 capable jacks in the laptop (if the same device is connected to the USB 2 jack or USB/SATA
combo jack the machine boots correctly).

If I connect the device to one of USB 3.0 jacks after machine is started, I can
see the following messages in the /var/log/messages:

Followup-For: Bug #629371

Dear Maintainer,

My modem: e173-u2 is also not switched, when plugged in during the powerup.
It is switched however if I plug it in into the running system.

I was able to cure this situation by manual extraction of the proper
configuration file: 12d1:1446 from configPack.tar.gz into
/etc/usb_modeswitch.d

With this file modem is serviced correctly.

Bug#580454: libc6-dev-amd64-i386-cross causes dselect to fail when updating list of packages

Bug#578063: linux-image-2.6.32-3-686: module i915 does not create /dev/dri during boot. Creates it after reloading

2010-04-16 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-9
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
After boot the i915 module gets loaded, but no /dev/dri directory is created
and acceleration in the X server doesn't work.
When I remove and reload the module by hand:
# rmmod i915 ; modprobe i915
The /dev/dri directory is created and acceleration works perfectly.
I attach the X server logs.
Xorg.0.noacceleration.gz - after boot
Xorg.0.acceleration.gz - after reloading of i915 and restartinf of X server

I tried to reinstall drm related packages:
# apt-get install libdrm-intel1 libdrm2 --reinstall
according to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdrm/+bug/430876
(similar problem detected in ubuntu), but it didn't help.

Bug#576797: qemu doesn't use kqemu any more - the old version should be available?

2010-04-07 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: qemu
Version: 0.12.3+dfsg-2
Severity: wishlist

*** Please type your report below this line ***
After last upgrade qemu stopped to use kqemu accelerator on my systems.
The command-line options -enable-kqemu and -kernel-kqemu are not valid
any more.
As those systems use processors which do not provide hardware support
for KVM, they can only run qemu without accelerator.

Maybe the old version of the qemu package, which still supported kqemu
should be kept available?

Bug#573961: Subject: openoffice.org: OpenOffice MS Word import filter does not import fontworks

2010-03-15 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:3.2.0-4
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
I have discovered the problem when I tried to open old documents
(both MS Word created and OO created and stored as doc files) containing
fontwork objects.
The objects haven't got imported when opening the documents.
I attach sample files - test1.odt and test1.doc.
When you open the test1.odt - the fontwork is read correctly.
When you open the test1.doc (the same file saved in doc format) - no
fontwork
is displayed.

Bug#500769: additional details

2008-10-01 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
I have filled sugestion regarding the textext package simultaneously
as the wishlist for the inkscape package (
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=500769 ) and as the
request for package (RFP) (
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=500777 ). Probably one
of these bugs should be closed, after a decision is taken: whether
textext qualifies for integration into the inkscape itself, or should be
a separate package.

Bug#464442: The problem disappeared, when I downgraded to the debian/testing (why system has upgraded itself to unstable???)

2008-02-07 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
I'have discovered, that my system has been unintentionally upgraded to
debian/unstable ???!!!

One of the unofficial package repositories provided a package, which
put additional
apt source-list into the /etc/apt/sources.list.d, containing the
reference to the packages from the unstable branch (strictly it was
emdebian-tools from the http://www.emdebian.org/ ).

To remove the problem, I had to delete the
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/emdebian.sources.list , and then to downgrade
the system back to the testing, creating

the /etc/apt/preferences with the following contents:

# cat /etc/apt/preferences
Package: *
Pin: release a=stable
Pin-Priority: 100

Package: *
Pin: release a=testing
Pin-Priority: 1001

Package: *
Pin: release a=unstable
Pin-Priority: 50

Then I was able to downgrade with some executions of apt-get
dist-upgrade and dselect (it was necessary to remove temporarily
some packages, to make the downgrade possible).

So now I have the wine in version: 0.9.44-1
And the xserver: xserver-xorg-video-intel in version: 2:2.1.0-2

and everything works as perfectly, as before...

Bug#431822: inkscape: Sharing of desktop doesn't work on 0.45.1 (worked in 0.44.1)

2007-07-05 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: inkscape
Version: 0.45.1-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
After upgrade to version 0.45.1 sharing of desktop stopped to work
(worked perfectly with 0.44.1).
It is possible to initiate session. The called party gets the invitation
dialog, but after acceptation of call the desktop is not shared.
Each party can draw independently on its shared (?) document, but the
documents are not synchronized at all.
I've tested it using the accounts on jabber.org and jabberpl.org

Bug#406176: python-matplotlib sugests tetex-extra (does not sugest texlive equivalent)

2007-01-09 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny

When I tried to install the python-matplotlib package, it tried

However it is much easier to trigger the bug in these mode which perform
complex processing of data - i.e. HTML and VHDL mode.

2006-06-17 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: xemacs21
Version: 21.4.19-1
Severity: normal

When I'm editing a file over the ssh connection
e.g. via: $xemacs /[EMAIL PROTECTED]/path/to/my/file
The editing hangs, when I keep cursor arrow key pressed to
move cursor quickly.
Sometimes it hangs even after two single consecutive presses
of arrow.
When hung, the status bar displays:
Wrong type argument: integer-or-marker-p,

The menus and icons keep working. Only the editing window is dead.
Using of menu changes the contents of status bar, but first attempt
to edit displays the above message again...

2006-06-14 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
I've checked, the sources of DirectFB-0.9.25.1 on the www.directfb.org
and the assembly implementation of rdtsc in memcpy.c is still there.
Unfortunately I have no access to the embedded system which exposed the bug,
so I can not check if it has been worked around in another way...

Bug#372873: Problem is probably associated with the evdev driver

2006-06-13 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
It seems, that the problem is associated with use of evdev driver in xorg.
It has been discussed e.g. here:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=323724

Is it possible, that the problem reappeared between
g-c-c 2.14.1 and 2.14.2 ?

Can you provide us with a backtrace, as described in the error message?

I'm sorry, but I'm not able to set the desired breakpoint. Probably it
requires a debug version of gnome-settings-daemon or some libraries:

Bug#373217: libdirectfb-0.9-24: libdirectfb doesn't work on x86 without rdtsc

2006-06-13 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: libdirectfb-0.9-24
Version: 0.9.24-3
Severity: important

The libdirectfb uses the assembly instructions to implement the rdtsc
function on the X86 platform (file memcpy.c from line 520):

#ifdef ARCH_X86
static inline unsigned long long int rdtsc()
{
 unsigned long long int x;
 __asm__ volatile (.byte 0x0f, 0x31 : =A (x));
 return x;
}
#else
static inline unsigned long long int rdtsc()
{
 struct timeval tv;
 gettimeofday (tv, NULL);
 return (tv.tv_sec * 100 + tv.tv_usec);
}
#endif

This construct causes libdirectfb to generate SIGILL when running on
x86 machine without rdtsc (eg. AMD x586)

Bug#372873: more details

2006-06-12 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
   1. The bug appeared after yesterda's upgrade of my debian/testing
  system. Previously it worked correctly
   2. I tried to clean all user's gnome settings - nothing helped
   3. When I run:
setxkbmap -rules xorg -model pc105 -layout pl2 -option
  grp:switch,ctrl:nocaps
To get my keyboard working, everything works perfectly (but
  gnome-settings-daemon keeps crashing as previously).

Bug#357048: ipe: Copy paste doesn't work in Ipe - upgrade necessary?

2006-03-15 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: ipe
Version: 6.0pre23-6
Severity: normal

I've tried to use the copypaste function in the Ipe editor to copy
objects from objects library sheet to the another edited sheet.
However this function doesn't work between different Ipe instances (it
works internally in single sheet).
The Ipe developers have suggested, that upgrade to the 6.0 preview 26
version may be needed.

Bug#328585: udev: /etc/udev/rules.d problem, /dev/input directory missing, /dev/null wrong permissions

2005-09-16 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: udev
Version: 0.068-2
Severity: important

When upgrading from udev-056 (which was working perfectly) to udev-068,
three problems occured:
1) I had to delete /etc/udev/rules.d by hand - otherwise package did not
   got configured
2) I had to change permissions for /dev/null (plain user had neither
read nor write access to that device)
3) I had to create /dev/input directory by hand. Othervise device nodes
in this directory were not created.

Bug#321870: ndiswrapper: Ndiswrapper causes the fatal exception in interrupt when halting the system

2005-08-07 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: ndiswrapper
Severity: important

I use the ndiswrapper with my Belkin F5D7050 WiFi card.
Sometimes, when I switch off my system, I get the kernel
panic caused by the fatal exception in the interrupt code.
The messages displayed during sample event are shown here:
http://www.ise.pw.edu.pl/~wzab/ndis.jpg

The problem renders remote rebooting of the system unreliable,
therefore I've decided to assign severity=important.

Bug#312227: Update of python2.3-xmpp for debian/testing required

2005-06-06 Thread Wojtek Zabolotny
Package: python2.3-xmpp
Version: 0.2-rc1-1
Severity: important

I've detected the bug in the XMPP, when working with TLS plugin
I've described this bug on the XMPP project site:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=1215631group_id=97081atid=616915
I was preparing a bot controlled with GPG encrypted
Jabber messages (sent from Psi communicator).
Because of long GPG key (4096-bits) the messages were
 very long.
The XMPP library stops working after receiving just a
part of the message, and continues working only after
 the next message is received.
The problem is not GPG related, because similar results
were obtained also for normal, not encrypted messages.

The problem occures only when working over the TLS
protected connection. So probably there is something
 wrong with the TLS plugin

However after sending the bug report I've stated, that the SF.net
website offers a newer version of the python-XMPP library.
The newest version appered to be free of the described bug. Therefore
I'd like to suggest upgrade of the debian package to the new 0.2-rc3
version.
